This past Saturday at TPC River Highlands, Cameron Young catapulted himself into an exclusive club with a phenomenal performance. Shooting an incredible 11 under 59 in the third round of the 2024 Travelers Championship, Young became only the 13th player in PGA Tour history to achieve a sub-60 round. This makes him the first to do so since Scottie Scheffler’s achievement at TPC Boston in 2020.
Young’s extraordinary 59 is only the second sub-60 round recorded at TPC River Highlands, following Jim Furyk’s remarkable 12 under 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship. TPC River Highlands now shares the distinction of hosting multiple sub-60 rounds this decade with The Old White at The Greenbrier, where Stuart Appleby and Kevin Chappell also posted 59s.

The former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year had an explosive start on Saturday, beginning with birdies right out of the gate. His round soared when his approach shot on the par 4 3rd hole dropped into the cup for an eagle. Adding another birdie on the par 4 4th, Young quickly surged to 5 under early in his round.
Although he missed an opportunity on the par-5 6th, Young kept the momentum with a near hole-in-one on the par 3 8th and a long putt on the par 4 9th, making the turn at an astonishing 7-under 28 – his lowest nine-hole score in his PGA Tour career.
After three straight pars to start his back nine, Young notched another birdie on the par 5 13th. He narrowly missed a 10-footer on the 14th but delivered the shot of the day on the short par 4 15th by landing his approach to just 5 feet and converting for his second eagle of the round.
With a dazzling 10-under at tee 16, Young needed just one more birdie in his final three holes to break the sub-60 mark and two to tie Furyk’s record for the lowest score in PGA Tour history. The pivotal birdie seemed within reach on the 16th, as Young’s initial shot landed about 2.5 meters from the pin.
Despite not capitalizing on this chance, Young quickly made amends by sinking his birdie putt from 1.5 meters on the challenging par 4 17th, pushing him to 11-under. On his final hole, Young faced a nerve-wracking moment as he missed the fairway off the tee, landing in an awkward lie on the fairway bunker’s face.
Young managed to advance his ball onto the green and sank his third shot from just 3 meters away, ultimately saving par for his historic 59. His name now joins the elite sub-60 club, tying Tom Kim at the top of the leaderboard, both sitting at 13-under as the leaders began their third round.
