Shane Lowry, Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland – How Low Can they Go?

Shane Lowry, Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland produced world class golf in round two of the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open.

As a three-ball better-ball, they would have shot a 13 under par 57!

this is game number 18 on from Ireland Shane [Applause] Lowry thanks now that’s three good opening t-shirs but all in all you know you got to Be watchful for those skiddy ones and Shane Larry with 286 yards away taking on this par five and two you got to hug the right half you get a decent Bounce It should kick left a good looking shot but a tricky finicky little chip from down there for low and the imagination the imagination you’ve got to have as well to visualize the shots I mean it’s just whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa that is a fantastic shot I’ll tell you what guys that was unbelievable it was so easy for Larry shot to go wrong there that was absolutely wild class deserving of a birdie you look at his technique with his putting and his chipping and it’s hard to see it that it would have changed at all you can play down the left corner that would be absolutely a always go by the playing Partners comments sometimes you get exuberan number one in greens and regulation this season on the PGA tour 74% of the time hitting the pting surface I love watching the active Foot Action it’s so different pretty unique oh look at this this could go in come on and that was planned that was planned is it the shorter pets or pre petting or what is it not haing 6 to 10 ft the ones that you really feel like you should be taking advantage of after tremendous approach shots okay he’s just just not going in but that one and that’s a good start for Sheffer oh boy boy that went close to going in what a terrific shot from hland that just hopped over the hole it did danced right around it yeah well done obviously only early days but line right now at one under par in a share of 48th even par in a share of 77th so and you could see where he had driver yesterday just short of the green it’s not going to be there today so much is made of Scotty sheffer’s foot movement and the way slides all over the place but when you’re as good a ball Striker as he is you’re obviously doing something yeah I’m surprised more guys aren’t trying it it’s just the flick with the wedge to be honest I saw him getting dialed in earlier today on the driving range and all the pros got the launch monitors out and this is just a f shot you just want to massage of gap wedge in there because of the slightly wetter conditions it will skid and bounce once but then it should grip after that wonderful shot from Scotty [Applause] Sheffer Sheffer birdie P up ahead of the green at 13 beautifully done that moves him inside the top 10 four under par for the world number one couple yards left this flag everything does kick in even closer to the pin ridard left arm sliding at the feet oh go on go on he certainly got away with that but you think back to his approach shot at 11 he pulled it a little bit left came down the slope missed the green left 12 but it’s definitely an awkward one all right let’s put iny to task here let’s see if she can read it correctly dead straight pretty straight yeah good call and good P from Scotty Sheffer three on the path of the round a lot of the players actually practice their t- shots out on the dve range so you know they get don’t get into a routine of bashing golf balls but instead they say okay I’m on 15 the wind should be off the right so this is the type of shot I’m going to hit so they’ve rehearsed us before Oh Sheffer pointing left just just to give the spots a a clue as to where to keep their eyes open for so what would be a five on probably cling down to a six what a brilliant shot from hland he is a wonderful ball Striker right he’s had a good read shown to him he knows where to hit this and does wonderfully positive Pace yeah this is a big move this morning from hland three under par for the round through six holes he knew he needed at least four under par today to make the cut with the modern technology these days it’s harder to do certainly is is he that’s a perfect t-shot as well from low just thinking of how well he’s puted so far I remember playing with Carlos Franklin final instructions commit to it probably indicates that there was a little bit of indecision oh that’s pure ball flight isn’t it there’s that spine that NY was talking about makes it very difficult to run it into the screen left half goes left right half goes right excellent [Applause] speed you’ve got to have very good eyes to be pting from that range with with no pin in I think so much harder H you’ve got to be quite tall as world to see the hole Tony nothing’s going by your side right no I repeat do not be short I mean there is a beautiful revetted face bunker short left but that’s exactly where you don’t want to be and there’s a big fce front as well so it be an awkward spot you need to carry this all the way all of 192 yards and there’s a little bit of hurt off the left as well oh uhoh Tony I think Victor hard if you were chipping it would be pretty difficult to control but you’re putting mostly through The Fringe and it changes into texture of the green so strikes everything they’re pretty well done there from Victor hlin tricky little four-footer coming back down the hill but nicely played on the cut line at minus one and remains there well done which I’m not sure about that he caugh one birdie and eight Bogies but over the week so far despite it being easier today overall tournament wise it still ranks as the hardest so yesterday was just brutal get you there you’re talking you can see the tall Flags in the distance makes it obvious which way that wind is coming from and it’s straight off the left it’s perhaps just a baby 79 just trying and cut this one in start it left if it works its way back towards the target Happy Days well it was a goodlooking shot from Lowry but stay there how cool was that two from down there well played there from Lowry as you’d expect around the greens how deep is that bunker and how straight faced well let just just a clinic isn’t it B the putter in hand we do need to find out what the the footage of putts hold is because my guess is it’s somewhere around 135 140 now in nine holes wow I mean he we we know about his footwork but that was that was incredible near he lost his balance the right foot slid so much nearly knocked himself over just Sublime only way to describe it beautiful shot Scotty he’s hit some terrific n shots today beautifully done we are just being spoiled rotten here aren’t we it’s an amazing golf it works Lowry now tell you what it’s impossible not to shift your weight onto the left side with that sliding foot and that’s an absolute Ripper terrific t- shot on the left side as well that’s perfect yeah you can go for it I mean 174 yards left for Larry and with this pin on the right there is quite a runoff area right at this screen as well and you’ve got that pot bunker just lurking around so there’re the two danger zones down down oh he too went straight out of little bit long but that’s fine even though we see as you mentioned earlier Tony even though we see Flags three four Paces from The Edge these players just don’t fire at middle of the greens anymore they go straight at it and see I just love the way he tats and chips it’s just it’s just pure feel isn’t it it’s just like artwork I think there we go another one Mona Lisa sha these guys are the best in the world looks like he’s done exactly that iny little flat fade out there that’s a good 20 yards past low 318 yards for the second shot for hovland on this par five laying up with the three-wood just that front edge like that it’s going to chase a little bit I think he caught that a little bit heavy Tony you see him saw him look back down took a divot yeah I mean the plan was a layup because the guys in front are still on the green but yeah well done H to hland I’d imagine with the driver as well looking to do the same sort of thing if you’re too straight you can run out of Fairway and end up in the rough so you need to shape this and move it left to right and he’s done exactly that iny perfect position down that left side of the Fairway and that little Red Cross in the Fairway is 75 yds to the front edge Shane Larry from 91 yards need to control the spin big time here what a beauty go ha excellent stuff from Shane Lowry yeah I’ll tap in it’s not going to do his length of putts hold any great favors though is it no that’s sort of bit of a spinner in the works really for us and you’re landing on a slight downhill slope but you need to get this right once it’s found the tip it’s going to trickle down you don’t want to be sure oh he’s going to like this he’s going to like this come on okay that will be eight underp for the round for Victor hovland with four holes remaining you’re getting excited now oh I was excited a long time ago under par for the round five under for the tournament five Strokes outside the cut line starting today and with three holes excuse me four holes remaining he’s in a share of 11th Dan tied the course record yesterday with 6 N Out of 61 oh we love it absolutely superb just brilliant gol from this Trio just outside the right Edge yeah good call iny he takes advantage seven under five for sheer he’s missed a few opportunities today and he’s still only two behind in a share of four quite a lot of players leak it out to the right and then it bounces right into that rough oh my God like if I stand all day oh is he going straight in the bunker is he going straight in the bunker hean I say it’s big It’s relatively small but it plays big but it’s not ideal either stance wise exactly feet are probably in the sand I can’t see from where I’m standing but it’s awkward he’s going to have to grip down the club hit Ball’s way above his feet what a shot Take a Bow Larry incredible how do you play that style of shot first bit relatively flat and then that’s when he start to get a bit nervous Shane Lowry this is absolutely phenomenal even by standards that’s got to be is that the third or fourth part that we’ve seen him hold from over about 25 ft today I would say at least four it’s been outrageous I mean you know iny described how difficult this p is and how fast it is it at the end and I mean it is absolutely dead weighted I mean will it get there will it get there when more tole wow seven underpath for P the around for Shane Lowry he is hailing it down is it really I know you wouldn’t know in the Box no are you drinking your cup of tea nice warm coffee couple of biscuits is is there actuallyy hail out there and see sounds like it wow go the further back you are the more you can see of this green and flag and it’s right at the back as well quite a narrow Target though the fat portion of the green is just shy but you’ve got plenty of runoff areas that was all over it terrific shot stay there brilliant shot from Victor [Applause] hin keeps it very simple that went left early didn’t it close that’s a good four at number eight it’s just been a terrific round from Victor [Applause] hogland a couple of points throughout the day but it’s been really really good play 194 yards would be six9 for Scotty Sheffer can we silence that that please thank you all right focus on your sh a long way back absolutely 32 y up the green just over a little Ridge go go go what do you think there 40 45 ft short of the whole is that his Target or a bit of a Mis Club Mish hit you know I mean look how much the the rain is still chucking it down there’s a little bit of Breeze out there I think fascinating watching Scotty Sheffer today he didn’t birdy the 10th of par five he didn’t birdy the 16th of par five he three- puted the Par Four that he drove the fifth he’s missed a lot of other chances and he’s five under for the round makes it look pretty darn easy doesn’t he that’s got to keep tracking though all three players still have bit of work left here for par at nine that length isn’t it four five six Footers to finish the day hasn’t dropped a shot today Scotty sheffet this for a round of five under pass 65 well done seven under PES three off the lead and a share of fourth for the world number one terrific golf we were very spoiled watching that Tony weren’t we just was actually a privilege to watch that golf there three lbs that are going into lunch exceedingly happy to watch another DP world tour video click here and to subscribe click here
