How to hit High & Low Golf Shots – Golf Stance & Ball Position ’24
In this video, Coach Shayain provides tips on ball position in golf. She explains that for iron shots, the ball should be placed in the middle of the stance. To hit the ball higher, the ball should be moved towards the front of the stance, while to hit it lower, it should be moved towards the back of the stance. Coach Shayain demonstrates these techniques and provides examples of the different launch angles and distances achieved with each ball position. She also gives a bonus tip on how to determine the correct distance to stand from the ball. Overall, the video aims to help golfers understand and improve their ball position for different shots.

Are you having trouble not understanding where to put the ball in your stance when you’re about to hit the shot and how far or close you need to stand the ball? You’re just getting a little bit taken aback by it. This video is for you. I will help you understand exactly why we put the ball in the front or the back of our stance when we’re hitting and what you get out of it. So let’s get started. Hi, I’m Coach Shayain. Welcome back to my YouTube channel. If you have not subscribed, make sure you go ahead and subscribe to my channel. I help you with tips and tricks for golf, beginner, golfers, or you know what? Sometimes you just need a refresher. I’m your gal. Let’s get started on ball position. A lot of you have a very hard time understanding where to place the ball. The common thing that I tell you is you don’t know. You’re just trying to hit it down the middle. With any irons, have the ball in the middle of your stance. So I have my feet closed. I have them open shoulder width apart. The ball is pretty much even in the middle of my stance. I hit it and I continue on. If I am trying to get the ball nice and high, I need to carry a tree or a shrub. I need to go over bunker. I need to go over water. You now need to move the ball more towards the front of your stance. So you still come to the ball with your feet closed. Maybe you just move your left foot very slight and your right foot a little bit bigger. Now you can see the ball is much more in the front of my stance, the same concept I come with my feet closed. If I need the ball to go lower, I move my left foot more and very little on the right. The ball is now more towards the back of my stance, so that is going to help me go low. I have a whole bunch of trees in front of me. I need the ball to go low under the trees, back onto the fairway, and then I carry on. So I need the ball to go low, which will be in the back of my stands. If you haven’t seen my video on chipping, BLT was a very common phrase that I used. Bacon, lettuce, tomato. But that also meant having the ball in the back of my stance, making sure that I’m leaning to the left. So remember, I actually have to put my body weight to my left, and I was going to create the TikTok position or TikTok, which is the old grandfather clock. Consistent back, consistent forward, creating a nice triangle within my hands and my body. So BLT ball in the back, I’m leaning to the left and I have my Y. I’m creating a nice back and forth, and the ball’s going to go nice and low under the trees or underwear. I’m trying to go back to where I want it. So let’s show you what that actually looks like in real time. So I have my pitching wedge in my hand right now. Let’s do the high shot. I want to carry the trees. I have a bunker or a lake or water body in front of me. I need the ball to go high over top. So what are we doing? I’m coming to my ball, I’m closing my feet. I’m going to have this ball more in the forward part of my stance. So I’m going to move my right foot. So shoulder width apart is like this. I need this ball to be more in the forward part of my stance. So I’ll go here and always remembering that I want my body weight towards the hole, towards the green, towards the pin. So I’m not going to hang back here. So I have the ball positioned more in the front of my sense. I’m going to lean a little bit to the left and I’m going to swing. So you can see that is 83 yards carries 78. My launch angle is 34.4. Okay, so that gives you the nice big height. Now I want the ball to go low. I have trees in front of me for whatever reason, I want it to roll and roll and roll. So the ball, I’ve closed my feet. I’m going to open them just like I would hit a regular shot. But now I’m going to bring the ball a little bit closer to my back leg. So BLT ball back, I’m going to lean to the left towards the hole, and I’m going to create a nice y and a triangle with my hands and I’m going to hit down on it and the ball should go lower. So this one didn’t go as far. I didn’t have a full swing, but you can see 46 yards, 40 carry. But look at my launch angle, 15.9. So low. Let’s do another one just to show you what that looks like. Close my feet, open my feet, move it in the back of my stance. I’m going to come a little bit further, put my weight on my left foot. That’ll get more distance, but it’ll go lower. There you go. My angle is at 18.7 and I got about almost a hundred yards. One more to show you what it looks like to put it in the front of my stance, close my feet, open it regular, moving it to the front. This will give me height. Okay, so I’m here. I’m nice and relaxed. I am over the bunker. I’m over the water over the lake. And look at that launch angle 31. So nice and high and a hundred yards on the dot. Look at that. So I really hope that this helps you understand where you want the ball. If I just want to hit a regular iron shot, I’m just going to close my feet, open my feet, and have it in the middle of my stance and hit it that way to go high in the forward stance to go low in the back of my stance, always remembering body weight a little bit more towards the hole so I don’t get stuck back here as I’m swinging. I really hope this video helped you on ball position. The last thing I want to leave you with a little bonus. A lot of you stand too far or stand too close. You’re going to breathe. You have your feet closed. You have your club down. Hold your club with your left hand and open your feet. I want your hands to be nice and relaxed. Wherever your hand is nice and relaxed, usually under your chin is where you want it. That’s a good gauge for you to know where to have your hands. A lot of you are back here, and if you’re back here, there’s way too much space. You can’t have your hands back here, so you need to come until your hand, your hands meet. I’ll show you this way as well. So I close my feet. I’ve opened my feet. I’m nice and relaxed. My left hand is holding it. Let’s say I’m standing too far. I need my hand just to wave, see how I’m missing the club. I need to keep coming until my hand touches. I’m too far, I’m too close. My hand will go over top like this. So I need to move until my hand is nice and relaxed under my chin. So that will tell you how far or close to stand to the ball. Okay? Oh, there it is. Hands are under my chin. I’m going to regroup. I’m going to breathe. I’m just going to hit the normal shot with the ball in the middle of my stance 90. And my regular launch angle with my pitching wedge is 28 yards. I mean 28 to 0.2. So I really hope this video helped you understand ball position. If you have any questions, do them in the comments below. Add the very end of this video.
