Right outside Cologne Cathedral hours before kickoff. Huge game for Scotland. What’s your thoughts?

I think if you come down to this square, and there’s, I mean, let’s not get the calculator out again, but there could be 30-40,000 supporters in this Town Center. It’s absolutely rammed. I think I’ve seen little pockets of Swiss fans, but if in terms of support, if that’s what the game goes for, then we win the game 5-0. It doesn’t go like that, unfortunately for us. But the more the Scottish fans get drunker, the more their confidence rises in terms of getting a result.

We spoke to some this morning and it was, “We think the Swiss are very good.” Now it’s, “We’re going to win the game comfortably, two or three,” after a few beers. So, no, I’m looking forward to the game. I just hope, listen, we have got some support over here and it’s not just in this city, it’s Dortmund, it’s everywhere, Munich. We have got great support. I just hope we give them something tonight, and mostly chances are doing that.

Do you think, we spoke about it so many times, it’s the start of the game, we have to start the game well. I mean, if we come out of the traps quickly in the first 5-10 minutes and we’re after the Swiss, I think we can go and get a result. If we come out and we start slow and the Swiss entrap us again, and God forbid we lose the early goal, then it’s a long, long way back. I just hope the confidence hasn’t been mortally dented from the other night.

I think that the confidence will be dented, but we don’t know how long till the game starts. As we approach the game, we’re just waiting for the teams to be announced. We’ve got a suspicion that Billy Gilmour will be brought in, Grant Hanley to replace Ryan Porteous who is obviously suspended.

Do you expect any further changes, or those two the two that you expect?

Obviously, I think Hanley will come in. Gilmour, I don’t know who’s going to drop out. Scott McTominay didn’t look quite his best. Listen, I’m not singling him out, none of our players get pass marks.

The other question one is Anthony Ralston, does he bring James Forrest in? Ross McCrorie is a long shot, does he switch Tierney over and play him on the right-hand side? I don’t think he wants to make wholesale changes. I think he will make the two you mentioned, Hanley will come in, and Gilmour will come in, possibly for McTominay or Christie.

Finally, result?

I’ve only had two beers, if I had five or six, I’d be saying 3-0 Scotland. I think one each. I think one each, if it’s one each with 10-15 minutes to go, I think both teams settle for that, particularly if Germany beat Hungary earlier and they’re effectively through, four points Switzerland are through, so I’ll go for one each. Right, one each, at this time, that would do me as well. That’s it, the next report from us will be post-match, where we’ll hopefully be celebrating a win.
