I think you might be getting it completely wrong let’s myth bus the GOL swing a little bit here in the takeaway one piece takeway maybe it’s a great bit of advice but possibly it’s an awful bit of advice I’m going to use my brand new hack motion sensor if you like what I do with this sensor I do have a code for it down below which gives you a discount but you don’t need this today you’ll understand with or without and this is going to give me the numbers to show you exactly the difference between a one piece and not let me hit two shots here hack motion on it’s calibrated it’s going to measure my wrist angles and we’re going to relate it to what a one piece takeaway is or Isn’t So standard shot to kick me off pretty straight not the best strike in the world but it’s straight and the line we’re going to focus on today is this Gold Line here so I started 8° extended I got to minus three so basically I started with my wrist around 8° extended about here and at some point in my back swing I got to minus two which is there so this little movement see it’s tiny but you can see it on the graph was quite big is maybe the key to why a one piece takeaway it’s completely poor information possibly so if we think about that Gold Line as measuring my wrist angle so if it is flat extended or flexed bowed extended forever terminology you might have heard I’m now going to hit a shot where I do a one piece takeaway a one piece takeaway that Gold Line in theory would stay flat for a longer period of time because it’s that takeaway where we see that dip in it that’s that takeaway where my wrist is flattening but I’m now going to do a one piece so one piece everything just moves in one piece and I want you to watch what happens to the shot so I’m starting around a similar angle I’m 14 there so I’ve got to try and keep 14 which would be like there okay this feels odd you can see what’s happened to the shot and I have flatlined that line like I flatlined it I’ve done a one piece takeaway started at 18 stayed at 15 like 3° is hardly measurable like if I try and find there’s zero there’s three like it’s tiny amounts but I flatlined that line and you saw what happened to the shop so the interesting pattern that we do see with better players time and time again is they start with a certain amount of extension in their lead wrist makes sense you’re holding the club you’re gripping it it’s bending then as they start their back swing they tend to take some of that lead wrist extension out in effect they flatten it off somewhat I go to zero some start like 18 come down to about eight you take 10° out all in this first early stage and the reason they do that is cuz what you’ll notice the more we look at Players you can see mine here if we look at my graph of the blue green uh angle here which is basically if your wrist is this way or this way so think of it as your wrist hinging up as soon as you start to try and get that club going up so hinging your wrist up what happens is you tend to add extension so these two lines very much work together for many golfers as they make their back swing we see the same pattern here this is a worldclass player starts at 20 they reduce it down to eight then as the bluey line starts going up see how the yellow one follows even on the down swing and follow through they follow each other because so we wee accept that hinging up relates to extension which it does so I’m minus 26 in this wrist here meaning my wrist is down to the ground and then I’m plus 5 if I just hinge up I feel like I’m just hinging up look 17 18 + 15 14 in the hinge so I hinge it down see it starts going into minus in lead wrist I don’t feel like I’m moving my lead wrist this way or this way like I just don’t feel like I’m moving it this way or this way at all I feel like I am just literally hinging it up and hinging it down and you can see the extension number and the flexion number relate they tie in so if you do not give yourself that leeway at the start so start with some angle and then start taking it out when you start hinging up you’re going to lose you’re going to have to put other angles in to try and control that face meaning if I want to hit this ball straight let’s say I’m plus 20 let’s try to stay plus 20 here and I’m going to hit this to hit that ball straight now who hasn’t seen a golfer try and hit the ball like that before see how I really use my body to try and get the rotation of the club so basically I’m rotating my arm this way huge we see golf’s hit the ball time and time again there and that is much more of me trying to do a one piece takeaway and I still didn’t quite do it again let’s try and get that one piece takeaway that every all practice that one piece takeaway so plus 25 I’m going to try and increase it I think that’s the answer to try and zero it basically that’s a good shot but look at what I’m having to do to win that game yeah and I flattened off that gold line but again as soon as that club starts hinging up you can see see how the turquoise one starts going up the other one starts coming well on that effect it had to come down didn’t it that’s amazing so I had to start using my wrist really hard this way knowing that I had not given myself any leeway so let’s just let’s calibrate let’s just come back to reality lots of numbers lots of graphs I get that it’s confusing but basically what I’m saying if you start with a bit of angle here which everyone does as you hinge the club up that’s going to increase inevitable for most players unless you start doing really brutalized movements so in your takeaway if you do not take a bit of that out to give you the leeway to put it back in cuz what the other pattern we see from good players if I start say whatever I am here plus 27 I tend to reduce it a little bit so what’s that let me do it here so I’m plus 20ish yeah I’m about plus 14 some players are about the same like good worldclass players because they have this tumble down here where they really recover it so they’re like 20ish to 20ish but they won’t if they do a one piece takeway if they’re 20ish stay at 20ish as soon as they hinge up they’re now 27 they’re going to have to work the wrist so hard on the downswing or do what I was doing to try and hit it straight the leeway that you give yourself is possibly the key and that is not one piece that is another movement it’s another piece it’s a really simple drill you can use my newsletter crew already know this if you sign up to my free newsletter you get this information early in a bit more depth as well so anyone in the newsletter crew thanks for signing up link down below if you want my free weekly golf tips newsletter where we just get into the nitty-gritty of the golf swing get rid of all these cliches being pushed at you sign up down below it’s absolutely free so watch this I’m starting here 20 I’m just going to pull the club back so my hands over Trail foot so the inside of it clubs just past Trail for I’m going to take that down to like a seven so 20 to 7 I’ve reduced it now from here look at the arrows look at that little arrow draw that is hilarious so obviously if You’ got hack motion you can measure this if you can’t you just going to have to look at your wrist remember you want to go from what we call Extended and just bring it down to somewhere near flatter just flatten it off it’s kind of that movement in the takeaway so I’m not going to look at the numbers now so I’m going to go here just flatten this wrist off a little bit I can see the face is turning down I can see this wrist is flat with my lead hand hit my shot yeah look at it turn like it’s so easy to not let the ball go over that way one piece takeaway myth does it hurt rather than help well I think it’s terms semantics it’s for some people a bit of language will hit let’s not throw the toys out of the pram just yet if you do a one piece takeaway and it makes you make this move keep doing it if we want to look at measured truth if we want to actually look at what makes people better or worse and then work from that as our base is up it is not one piece I mean before we put rotation in which is obviously happening which is another piece but that’s another video good players are giving thems that leeway on the back swing to be able to hinge the club up and not get in a mess lots of golfers are getting it wrong from the start and as they go back they’re trying to recover it at that point you want to go flatter at the beginning and then let it start hinging up Let it hinge out this way no more than where it started you’re going to find straighter shots come more often if you want to find out how to hit straighter dri this this video is going to help you

So basically swing your own swing 😂
Am I wrong to be trying to address the ball with a flat wrist to begin with rather than starting extended?
How does Bryson do so well then? he grips it without any discernible flex in his lead hand at address?
Interesting ……sometimes it feels like im flexed at top but hackmotion shows cupped (confirmed with video too). Wonder if im getting too much hinge late in backswing
I think " one piece " takeaway mainly refers to elbows/arms " connected " to torso at initial backswing until you begin your hinge to get to the top of the swing ala Hogan.
