north of the Eternal City of Rome in the latio region of what is called the house of golf in Italy the official course of the national Federation the picturesque golf naali the P 72 has hosted the World Cup of golf and last year’s Junior Rider cup it’s a punishing layout for anyone offline tight t-shots with gorgeous in is lying in weight but if you can keep it online birdies are to be had Kiara tambellini enters the week knowing that a top four finish would see her take the lead in the order of Merit the Swiss Miss a winner at the joerg ladies open Alexandra finale still waiting for her first win the highest ranked Italian in the field the 24-year-old finished runner up as an amateur last time she teed up in a home open 11th on the rankings with three top 10 finishes this season Indian Lefty d shagger starts the week hoping to add to her two ladies European tour titles with defending Champion Morgan metro not here a new name would be engraved on the trophy in the tournament’s 27th Edition after thunderstorms affected the practice days the weather was perfect as the tournament got underway but Kiara tambellini remained under a cloud it all went wrong for the Swiss a triple and a quadruple bogey on the in a round of 10 over 82 she ended the day stone cold last Alexandra finale got off to a much steadier start a tap in par here in a round of 71 one under but in a 3-day tournament she would need a big weekend if she was going to worry the leaders Franchesca Fiorini knows this course well the 18-year-old Italian amateur playing a starring role in the junior Rider Cup last year a birdie there at 18 she was another one under no doubt about the story of the day the return of Whitney hilia after spending the last 12 months outward long covid the Australian showed no signs of rustiness a lovely pup there at the par through 12th she would close at two under par theam pce was playing in the same group and like hilia enjoyed the 12th green the 13 time L Champion has been without a win on European Turf since 2013 but she did come close to a win in the Italian Open two years ago three under out came the fist bumps Olivia Schmidt lost her card on the Epson tour and headed to lq school late last year it looks to be a good decision hailing from Oklahoma the American isn’t exactly at home in the rolling holes of Lazio but she embraced The Challenge on her first L start five birdies two Bogies she joined Pace at three under and one behind Sarah kuskova the cck has enjoyed two sixth place finishes this season the best of her career to eight and had to ey in with the irons at golf club Natan Alle Kusa in the same group as dick sha dagger and the Indian followed suit at the seventh with her approach slightly different angle from the Leander but a similar result dagger would close five under and just one off the lead that lead was held by three players one of them was Tiffany arafi the Swiss came second on the access tour last week and the confidence in her game is obvious she rolled this one in at 18 for what was one of seven birdies in a round of 66 a great round not that she was giving too much away with her body language Kiren rley has been hitting some good form in the last month or so with top five finishes in Germany and Sweden and on day one the Australian was one of just five players to post a bogey free round and she finished in some star with a birdie at her last it’s the first time the Aussie’s been to Italy was proving to be a trip to remember so far fattima Fernandez Cano bogied her opening Hall fair to say she put it behind her some seven birdies after that from the Spaniard who missed last season through injury now for the fit she seems to be returning to the form that took her to two Epson T titles three at the top then with some impressive scores but for once in the shadow of a player who carded a Whitney hilia finally back on tour doing what she does best I’ve had a bit of long Co it hasn’t been fun I know it’s affected everyone differently but with me I just couldn’t play anymore which was heartbreaking so it took me about 9 months to recover but overall a year and a half so I’ve been dealing with it for even longer and thinking I was fine but not but no I’ve had a good rest and hopefully uh it’s uh it stays you know I stay healthy so it’s fine but I’m uh super positive with everything and I’ve missed it so much I’ve had a lot of time to think about it and when I’ve been at home I’ve been watching the L I’ve been so keen and you know but I’m just happy to be healthy and and back out there so yeah very happy especially in Italy I mean how good the food so they twoo in conditions remain near perfect at golf and N Al but the wind did begin to build in the afternoon Alexandra finale out in the morning but she was unable to generate the momentum needed to build a challenge plenty of birdies but plenty of Bogies too level past 72 left the Italian where she started one under amongst friends and family still plenty though to smile about Whitney H’s impressive comeback continued a brilliant shot here at the eth in the trickier afternoon conditions it left her little more than a tap in birdie in a round of 71 three under overall and into a tie for 10th things were not going too well for one of the overnight co-leaders Kirsten rudgley usually a fan of wind she struggled to get to grips with what was a swirling Breeze 74 dropped her back to a tie for seventh a similar story for fellow day one leader Fatima Fernandez Cano she started promisingly on the back nine her first nine hole almost holding out here at 18 for an eagle but would pick up a triple bogey eight at her very next hole in the end it would be a 73 and down to 5 under Shannon tan has enjoyed an eye-catching rookie season she became the first ever female winner from Singapore when she won in Kenya on her L debut and she’s added four top 20 finishes since another good finish on the cards here a day 268 left to just two back diad dagger another five under nothing spectacular from the Indian a level pass 72 she would be frustrated that the putter did match the quality of her iron play nevertheless she was well placed heading into Sunday it’s been a welcome return to form for two-time L Champion Pier babnik after losing her card in 2023 when she struggled with back and feet issues more signs of a game returning here with a second day 67 she’s another five under Tiffany arfi couldn’t match or opening day 66 but the Swiss who plays with Ms had the putter working nicely added to an improved swing a Rafi Clos with a 72 she’s six under just one back out in front though is Amy Taylor the English woman armed with a new putter collected six birdies and a single bogey to move to seven under she entered the week full of confidence after a top five finish in an axis series event the previous week she would be the one to catch on Sunday in truth though a very tight looking leaderboard 16 players within five shots Taylor though who had yet to post an let top 10 the one out ahead I played last week finished fourth um on the access tour which was a good result obviously that always makes you feel more confident and um I felt like my game was good coming into this week so it’s nice to play good and hopefully I can do well tomorrow stay with us to see if the chasing pack could haul her north of Rome and to the P 72 golf nazian alley for the final round of the ladies Italian Open where Amy Taylor holds a narrow One-Shot lead the young English woman looking for her first L title a reminder of how things stand a raffy one behind but pier babnick and Dick shagger both know what it takes to win on tour impossible to call with 18 holes to play who in this 27th Edition could get their hands on the trophy the weather was once again close to perfect with a strengthening Breeze for the later starters Tiffany arafi was hoping to become the third Swiss winner of the season but those hopes dashed early this at the first leading to one of three Bogies in her first four holes the first time leading on the L you wondered how Amy Taylor would handle the nerves well the early signs were extremely po positive a birdie at the first another there at the third and how about this approach over the tree at the [Music] fourth it would be a dream start for the overnight leader three birdies in the first four holes now nine under she wasn’t the only one off to a hot start the big local hope Alexandra finale making a Sunday move she birded the first four holes and added another there at the seventh out in 31 dreams of a first Italian winner of the ladies Italian Open were becoming a possibility when she knocked it to taping range at the path for 11th finale now seven under after rounds of 70 and 72 Emma Spitz was going nicely on day three hitting the flag at the 10th on her way to a par that left her in touch at 5 under finale though wasn’t the only Italian going well teenage amateur Franchesca Fiorini picked up her fifth birdie of the day at that 10th to move to six under leaving her just three back but not everybody making forward moves Fatima Fernandez Koo back to where she started the day at 5 under with a drop shot at [Music] seven with birdies at the two par FS Maria Hernandez in Solo third and like finale Camille chaler birded her first four holes tailor now up by two I’m Richard Koffman alongside me Sophie Walker and Sophie the final three ball have reached the seventh and I have been so impressed with the start from Taylor as with babnick one underpath through six holes a reachable par five for the selenian going with an iron slightly uphill second shot turned it a little bit but sent it high into the sky and Into the Heart of the green Eagle putt to come taking the driver out of the bag this week interesting choice I suppose she’s got the length on every hole it’s a very tight golf course this is precision you wouldn’t say it is a babnick setup so that’s credit to how well she has played this week I remember a couple of years ago we had a an Italian amateur Alesandra finale on that occasion contending we got another 18-year-old Franchesca falini I remember watching her wi the under 16’s British amateur in Yorkshire UCLA have got a star right there that was her second into 11 Taylor laying up at the poweri sth here interesting choice 96 yards to a tuck pin on the right hand side remember babnick is on the Green in two leaving that one below the hole setting up a birdie chance looks so composed you wouldn’t believe this is the first time she’s been leading on the ladies European tour this for a sixth birdie of the round for Fiorini birded 10 birded 11 the mini fist pump I just love the Italian Colors that the amateur wear in this event yeah got the uh the football shirt like on isn’t it on at the moment but falini now just two back at seven under par this is a slider down the hill for but it is for Eagle left to right it’s been a steady start now it’s an electric one an eagle for pier babnick she gets within one well there’s a statement for a player playing in her first event since finishing top 30 at the US Open mom happy with that as well now here’s a college teammate of the leader Amy Taylor Texas Tech was Shannon tan 138 yd par three second in greens and regulation this year so I don’t expect anything else there from town hard to believe given what we’ve seen this week Amy Taylor yet to have a top 10 on the ladies European tour I think that’s in big danger as is that trophy uphill from left to right that is some response a birdie there for Taylor yeah now three under for the round 10 under overall feel like tan needs to bag this one just to keep it touch given the way Taylor’s going that’s a super two at nine out in 35 she’s up to six under certainly not out of it not had a top 10 since uh her win back in uh the start of the season in Kenya here’s babnick now flying off the back of that eagle shot into the Par Four down the hill and this has been the area of a game that she’s really improved on only 65% Greens in regulation until this week not the hole that Alexandra finale was hoping for at 14 in trouble put a third shot there at the par five into the bushes gap wedge 80 yards here for Taylor look at that action turning the chest through quiet hands will it get inside of babnick it will not put a foot wrong yet Amy Taylor can’t say the same about finale he was bogey free until this point she was six under par for the day entering a reachable par five live in 14th and that there that 30f footer is left for aart the roadblock has been hit there by the Italian at the wrong time kind of feels a little bit like a a match play situation between babnick and Taylor others certainly involved though oh just lack Pace didn’t it yeah twice a winner on tour as a teenager lost a full card last season with those back and feet issues but she’s been working with Matt bam Sophie yeah since last summer actually Charlie Hall’s swing coach she thanks him for the comeback and it’s been about making Cuts hasn’t it but I do think that US Open that top 30 suddenly now she’s in contention here in Italy trending in the right direction well this is a par P it’s one of the easiest holes on the course she smashed that she’s chasing that PA she knows where she is in this event he’s got that left for a six damaging hole this is proving to be for fidal this for four birdies in eight holes for Taylor though threw a penny into the Trevy Fountain earlier this week I wonder if the wish was to win an L event it’s looking good there excellent birdie yeah she said after a around admitted it would be a dream come true doesn’t have full status on on tour lost her card last season there’s her caddy for the day Harry Ying he was cading for Verina gim who was in the same group as Amy first two days that was no gimme a three put compounding the mistakes there for finale it’s going to be a seven and she is running out of holes yeah you got to feel her chances are over with that she now drops back to five under but it’s four pars four birdies in eight holes for Amy Taylor who’s making it look routine at the top of the leaderboard at golf nazian Al the English player still the one to catch at the ladies Italian [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Open hello and welcome back to the region of Lazio the final round of the ladies Italian Open where Amy Taylor has stretched her Advantage at the top that lead had become four shots when Pier babnik dropped one at the ninth but the 20-year-old Slovenian bounced back immediately with this approach setting up a birdie at the par 410th Francesca Fiorini now the leading Italian and the teenage amateur came so close to bagging a seventh birdie of the round at the 13th she remained four back and in a tie for third with Maria Hernandez and Camille chaler babnick birdie Cuts Taylor’s lead to three shots eight holes left to play no lead is big enough up the hill here five iron from 178 yards for Taylor safely on board she won’t want to be thinking about this but started the week 139th on the order of Merit limited status so much on the line for her can babnik hold this back pin so many of the greens sit back at you tugged it left but it’s held on power from finale at 15 after that double at 14 runner up in Kenya at the start of the year then had a bit of a back injury just a wedge in a hand looking to stick this one close front pin the crowd still cheering her on yeah she’s got friends family some of the members at marcoon out there you can see the pitch on that green can’t you that one swung hard from right to left just to move Maria Hernandez within a couple of the lead here slick one this above the hole downhill left to right o and that’s her fourth birdie of the day she gets to minus 8 14 years since her one and only title that was in 2010 in Slovakia also from the high side here on 11 barely touched that one just shows you can’t be aggressive have to keep yourself below the hole I think she’ll just tap this one in Pier hasn’t had a top 10 since the end of 2022 end of the year with 11 miscuts in a row last year looks just a completely different player again she’ll be thinking what could have been that’s seven on 14 has cost the Italian buy there on 16 well hasn’t had to sweat too much over pars today Amy Taylor but here’s one at at 11 that’s first drop shot of the day only a second of the week that’ll get you thinking Richard especially when it’s your P mistake winning is not easy yeah three PS from nowhere and here’s a player who is leading the chase to catcher hits over 80% of greens and Fairways you wonder why she’s not in contention more often lob wedge in hand so back left pin can’t go beyond it asking for it to sit it responded you know she’s also the only player this season that’s played everyone of the latest European tour events this is her 14th start of the Season not bad for a 38y old back to the 12th 197 yards and she tugged it on 11 you don’t want to tug it on 12 there’s bushes there oh it’s taking a couple of bounces and it’s found them that’s in big trouble for babnick now this is Maria herandez promise you and this is for another [Music] birdie well she’s found a ball we saw Sophie bringer in there early in the day Sophie and she ended up having to go back to the te and she looks distressed think there’s some tears there for piia she is a very emotional player looking at her options she’s going to be heading back to the T onto the final par three of the day the 17th hole 190 yards left for finale six well it seems that babnick is heading back so Taylor will PP for birdie and that’s very nicely judged particularly after the three pad at the last and below the hole leaving herself an uphill putt good decision off the te to actually leave it short of that flag to give the crowds following her just a couple more moments what’s been a really good day 14 apart mentioned how she came second as an Amer in this event so different when you’re playing for money feels like there’s more pressure on you and she’s handled it well just aart there on 17 confirmation that she did go back to the tea so babnick has this for bogy it’s a different type of emotions than what she’s had in the last year missing Cuts playing poorly she’s actually playing well today it’s that one bad shot but it’s easy how one shot can flip the switch and the confidence can go yeah she I felt she was a little unfortunate there I know she did Target but it was a big bounce it took to find the uh the big trouble that she was in and well that is extremely damaging muttering to herself back to six under she’s watched the drama unfold two and a half ft left here for aart safety done just got to tick off those holes par five to close with at G nazian alley they straight back up the hill to the clubhouse but this is awkward didn’t have much of a shot there now here’s the 2017 Indian open Champion Camille chalier going along very nicely I started with four birdies had one Birdie on 13 and sent that one home finale for a closing birdie pity got exciting didn’t it with those five birdies in the first seven hes she set it up nicely didn’t she and that one bad shot on 14 has cost it to 14 that hole and the player who pipped finale to that title in Kenya maybe you should lay up like tan done nearly knocked the pin out there so this for a 67 not the B lovely last day for finale despite the trouble she had at 14 that apart she really played some super Golf and gave herself some hope she did that’s her second top 10 of the Season she won’t want to be reminded of 14 here’s dick shagger chipping for a Regal they not really been happening in this group one birdie one bogy before this hord dagger Fernandez canos two over for the day now Taylor looks to be blocked out by the tree has to go over it from 114 yards has the height but not the distance she’s had some long puts on this back nine that’s going to be a slow one up the hill and here’s her biggest danger Hernandez for birdie this is the hardest hole on the golf course we’ll be gaining one here misre from the span what a really good opportunity Miss there from Maria she is kicking herself with that one she came so close in Belgium last year she came second there and doesn’t want to do the same here 13th babnick up the tier all about Pace this one oh wow what a p what a comeback that’s extraordinary she will not let golf beat her not a bad thing for Amy Taylor to see as well you know especially the feel of the length of that P and the pace it will have oh another one drops this time from Shannon tan getting back this week to what she calls her her boring golf Fairways greens rolling in the odd pot like that well knows what to do onto that second step not much movement in it this is where the nerves really start to show on the putting greet got to go got to stay stay oh no when it’s going to come back to her feet there may be a bit more how you feeling right now if you’ve just seen babnik ho it and you’ve got to play again from the same spot you got that for par yeah and as we know it’s not an easy two from there maybe some hope for a few players in the chasing pack dagger moves under par for the round six under now got to go again oh that’s credit to her would have been so easy to smack that one have six feet coming back composed herself well there one of the co-leaders from day one Kiren rley four birdies today two [Music] Bogies and we look at the names at the top of this leaderboard rley Hernandez tan it’s all about Fairways and greens well that’s a a second three putt for bogie in three holes for Amy Taylor and it’s now as tied as it’s been since the opening hole back to one in front chaler is going for it on 18 these players have got nothing to lose now Taylor has it in her hands Fairway W can she sneak it on the front edge never mind front edge she’s found the back Plateau what a brilliant shot that is yeah important for chalia could go a long way to recapturing her full playing rights this week this now is for a share of the lead for Maria Hernandez I’m more shocked that she’s Mr Green opting not to chip this one that’s because it’s so quick oh she’s asking for it to sit straight off the back steady on yeah not too many leaderboards out there so tough for the players to know exactly where they are just short of the green and two at the par five 14th oh that’s some touch it’s a simple up and down but not on a Sunday afternoon when you’re trying to win your first ladies European tour title and you’ve bogey two of the last three holes yeah and you can’t feel your hands Ry to try and move to seven under but if not this week you feel wind’s not too far away for the Aussie hasn’t missed a cut all year steady ady it decided not to play last week the Scandinavia mix decided to stay in Spain that’s a little heavy-handed from babnick very similar position to where we just saw Taylor chipping from coming out The Fringe he just shut the face got too much purchase on it Rush the birdie P past this to remain within one for now cuz Taylor has got what seems a tapping coming up at 14 bogey free round for the frenchwoman this would put the icing on the cake oh never gave it a go CeCe well off the back of that huge pad at 13 this feels like a must make for babnick oh she hasn’t birded this hole all week a reachable par five with her length she’d have expected to yeah that feels like a big Miss just a par this for the low round of the day so far 66 from Camille chaler and a first top 10 in 18 months on the ladies European tour well played now this will settle you down the simplest of birdes at the right time for Taylor gets herself back to 10 on the par yeah much needed first birdie of the back nine he has got a little tighter but worth noting no one’s actually caught Amy Taylor at any point in this final round her lead is two with four holes to play the ladies Italian Open [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hello and welcome back to the beautiful region of Lazio just north of Rome for the conclusion of the 27th edition of the ladies Italian Open where it’s 18-year-old amateur from Rome Franchesca Fiorini who takes the honor as the top Italian a birdie at 18 for an impressive final round 67 Emma spit so close to her breakthrough win last month in Germany the Austrian with a birdie finish and a 68 for another top 10 as for pier babnick after missing out for birdie at 14 she then found the greenside bunker at 15 it resulted in another Bogey and a hopes of a third L win seemed over so it looked as if it was between Amy Taylor and Maria Hernandez for the ladies Italian Open title Taylor with a two-shot lead over the 38-year-old from Spain who has now reached the PA 3 [Music] 17 and not an easy hold to birdy this 17th hole 190 yards longest iron in the bag for the Spaniard looks to have turned that one left and she’s missed another green 16 and 17 there exactly at the wrong time so problems for Hernandez but another commanding t-shot from Amy Taylor leaving herself 112 yards and it’s that magic wedge the gap wedge best part of her game this week gaining Two Strokes on the field in this category and she’s done it again that’s going to have a chance you know oh kick in birdie well surely that’s going to take her back to 11 under pass so Hernandez requires some magic from the up slope it was never going to release on it she’d have seen that shot in on 16 these two holes run parallel to each other think we’re seeing a crucial few moments here with Hernandez and Amy Taylor with mixed fortunes as for Whitney hilia I suppose a disappointing end to a fantastic comeback a double bogey there at 18 to conclude yeah around a 76 maybe the lack of reps of course up with the Aussie andz to try and save par well she’s dropping a shot at 17 as Taylor’s making birdie at 16 two shot lead is doubling now to for feel like that is the killer moment herandez now heading off to 18 easiest hole on the golf course a par five wandering its way back up to the clubhouse 457 yds plays 11 uphill the green is the most difficult of this hole it’s a severely sloping from back to front and that pin is cut in the back of the green well unsurprisingly given her usual percentages Fairway found for Hernandez what she scream it to miss that bunker it has just done that she can see it from down below you see we saw it it’s okay yeah you feel like she has to hold that next shot coming up Taylor meanwhile back at 17 five iron right to left wind and that is superb she’s been amazing with the wedges but a shout out to our longons as well well it’s an exemplary performance under such severe pressure PR she just looks like Born to Be leading on the ladies European tour well I suppose if she knocked this in it would make it interesting off the side slope from right to left oh she has an eagle for Hernandez the lead is now two well I mean it’s a brilliant shot it’s a magical moment for Maria nine andar with a 67 I mean frustrating to make the bogey at 7 team but you never know we are talking about a player behind who has never won before on the L she’s asked the question that’s all she can do fortunately for rajy never really threatened after opening 66 this for a birdie that’s going to be a closing 70 despite all that you have to say her form continues what’s that three top 10 in four starts exactly what I was thinking good run of events over in Europe at the moment so she’ll be basing herself over here looking to get that first win on the ladies European tour signs are good for the Australian it’s all been about Maria herandez in this group but the day’s really all been about Amy Taylor LED from the very start of this final round no one’s caught her her lead is two I wonder if she knows oh just didn’t hit that one but that’s a tough hole negotiated she has one on the AIS tour that was at the end of 2022 in Spain she could take six down the last and still win it’s a nice cushion still speaking of the last here’s Shannon tan going for it in two up the hill with a fairway wood trying to play a high cut to hold this green that is excellent is there much trouble for Amy Taylor to try and judge here at 18 as I said before I feel the green is the hardest part of this hole she’s been hitting at over 260 yards this week so she can get there in two this is leaked right [Music] towards the trees but it’s only in the Roth well they’ll be getting very excited in our home City of Norwich in England shanon tan this for an eagle three oh my goodness so close that was for a round of 69 I think she’s going to mark it first she’ll be hanging around 18 to watch one of her best friends hopefully win her first ladyes European Tour event yeah the crowd’s now waiting for the final three bow dick shagger not really made enough birdies this weekend just three on the card for the Indian Lefty and the issue has been with the putter it’s gone cold rolled them in all day on the opening round and that’s the story of the round two and three for the Indian 71 we’ll get her inside the top 10 of the order of Merit this year but that’s going to be her best finish since she won in Kenya the president of the Italian golf Federation one of those watching on here as our leader makes her way up 18 laid up with her second tough lie so from 77 yards needs to find the back level here oh and it’s not spawned back so that’s going to be tricky and quick by the way yeah she’s there in three she can afford afford to take three more from there and still win not that she wants to but what a moment for her started the week outside the top 100 on the rankings no full status on tour no top 10 on tour before and here she is oh she thought she just needed to get that started just to add a little bit of tension you’d still love to be in this position you would but maybe it’s sinking in you can see the the smile as if to say why is that not gone closer but she wants to tickle this one down as well I suppose yeah the ideal thing would have been to hit the first P past the hole and leave yourself the up pillar she knows exactly where she is in the tournament two puts will win it you’ll have to breathe on this steady steady there’s a little bit of meat left on that boat oh how’s your heart rate well the stomach will be churning right now straight over to Harry wasn’t she just
