[Applause] the follow through is the most important part of the golf swing so previously we’ve been to kendi dunar the GL Golf Club in North bar we’ve been to cril we’ve also done cabat Highlands Castle Stewart today we’re closer to home we’re at cadrona golf and country club just a couple of miles from pees and it’s windy and it’s cold I’m going to play a few holes and talk about Ben Hogan and Tommy Fleetwood there’s a move that they have in their golf swing or post impact that will help your golf swing so it’ll help you get your body through it’ll help you keep the club face Square for longer go through impact if he doesn’t want that roll the intro [Music] d [Music] [Music] off the right seriously downwind this is tough today okay so nice part to stop right we’re on the ninth hole at cardrona par three I didn’t realize how cold and how windy it was today I know the sun’s out just now but when that sun disappears it’s absolutely freezing so 189 downwind 6 iron Tommy Fleetwood Ben Hogan if you notice most of Ben Hogan’s golf swings Hogan finished top of the Swing straight left arm finish top of the Swing straight right arm now that takes a lot of body turn to get there but he was thinking about a post impact position of a straight right arm I find that hard to get there but when you get there it’s amazing how stable the club face stays through impact it’s amazing how the club face can stay Square for longer but how do you get there how do you get into that position well Hogan thought about the right elbow Trail elbow into lead elbow he discussed that on the way back the trail elbow sorry on the way down the trail elbow is close to the trail side and then that energy from there is transferred to here with lead elbow to lead side on the way through so transferring from there to there is going to straighten that right arm so right elbow inside left elbow Inside So Soft elbows is a way to think about it rather than thinking about the straight right arm straight left arm so thinking about straight left arm here straight right arm here think about soft right elbow soft left elbow woo let’s hit this 189 189 soft elbow to soft elbow now I need to to get here with a straight right arm the body has to turn with no body turn I’m going to be that guy let’s it one I’ll try my best soft right elbow soft left elbow with turn middle left of the green exactly where I was aiming at the top of the golf swing the lead arm the left arm for a right-handed golfer is a lever so that’s one lever your wrists in the middle and your golf shaft is another lever so think about it as two levers now it’s hard to get into that straight left arm position at the top of the golf swing I appreciate that but if you think about a soft right elbow soft Trail elbow B it’s going to help that happen just jumped off the back left corner of the green I use pitching wedge so I can keep it low I want it to run I want this ball running towards the hole don’t want it checking up oh my certainly got that running towards the hole better past than short though huh mhm how far past one 2 6 ft so I’ve seen what it did it was slightly left to right or right to left and the way down so I’ve got this I nearly had that a Steve Steve come on so that energy transfer of that transfer of of Trail elbow to lead elbow So Soft right elbow soft elbow into soft elbow so if this soft elbow here that’s going to encourage the golfing machine states that to keep the lead arms straight at the top of your swing there it’s not straight it’s not wooden it’s stretched so the right arm right arm is being flexed all the way back but it wants to straighten so as that’s trying its best to straighten it stretches the left arm if I then take my right hand off it’s going to go in that direction so that stretching that pushing of the right arm if you like is going to stretch the left arm then on the way through I’m a similar idea here if I push that out there it’s going to go in that direction if I let go but the elbows are soft okay so I’m soft elbow to soft elbow which is encouraging structure that structure into that structure Trail arm lead arm straight Trail arm straight straight straight now to get straight I have no problem here I have a problem there because I need to use my body more to get there it really does turn the body but you can see how quiet and passive the hand stay through impact as I’m here getting to there no there’s no attempt to try and close this face over hold it back it’s all it’s happening through the pivot through the body turn so Hogan for me it’s the trail arm to be straight on the follow through Trail arm straight on the follow through how how oh yes so it feels much more Punchy much more Tommy Fleetwood but I guess that’s the game isn’t it it’s a rapid a rapid release of the body the body really is firing in there and then it’s done and then it’s just a finish off a byproduct of what the body’s done that’s what it is so if I get my body to turn correctly there’s more chance of the trail arm being straight on the follow through alab b Hogan but that’s all very well but do I have to have my trail arm straighten the follow through I don’t have to do anything but the straighter I keep it the more chance there is of the club face being square at impact is what I’m trying to say and more chance of the body pivot working correctly so the Turning of the body working correctly through impact so if I think about and focus on that post impact position of the trail arm being straight so many other things are going to be in place 100 yard exactly 100 y exactly 100 y exactly is a pitching wedge at the feeling of 9:00 we’re downwind so I’m going to class it as 90 yards I can go 54 at 10:00 50 at 9:00 or pitching wedge at 85 I’m going to go a 50 at 9 so 50° wedge at what feels like 9:00 that’s very different that’s very different than actually being 9:00 so it’s what feels like 9:00 this is going to fly 90 downwind perfect you should get yourself a wedge chart we’ll discuss that in another video in fact if you want me to discuss that in another video please leave comments below please leave comments Below on what you’d like me to create content around why are you struggling with your golf game do you slice do you hook do you top it do you have problem with Fairway Woods get in the comments leave a comment just just stating I have trouble with put it in there I’ll take into consideration for next videos and future videos anyway back to this 90 9:00 there soft right arm soft left arm soft right elbow soft left [Music] elbow exactly pin High carried at 90 of this stuff downwind 100 yards 1 2 3 4 five three ran out 15 ft 5 yards or so which is great left myself 1 2 3 9 ft so there’s a device that can be used to feel the right elbow getting soft and the left elbow getting soft which I’ll show you right now once I hold this to get back to level par not even close not even close Ste there you go that’s golf I have a par three ahead of me 195 yards wind is off the right it’s going to rain very shortly so to feel let me pop this gem onto this Golf Club the gem is golf’s essential move now the club sits to up look at that golf’s essential move now the gem swings the golf club for you I’ll leave a link in the description below and a promo code if you want to buy a gam you’ll get a discount thoroughly recommend it I take the club back now the gem sets me here so it sets the club with toe to the sky but in order to get there my right elbow it encourages it to fold correctly so there’s encouragement there for the trail elbow to fold nice and soft nice and correctly and look how it keeps my lead arm straight so I’m there to there that sits itself I’ve done nothing and of course on the way through I’m here my club on the way through now there post impact first parallel after impact if you like the toe again is to the sky so correct release so this is encouraging you to feel the release correctly with quiet passive hands but it encourages the elbows to do their job so when I come through here there to get to that position my lead elbow has softened Trail elbow softened lead elbow softened Trail elbow soft lead elbow soft now you’re probably thinking that that’s that’s flipping the club over if I flip the club over the weight of the gem makes the club wobble can you see that wobble now watch the difference if I use my body like Hogan to get into the post impact position you ready there there’s no Wobble the club does not wobble so the gem controls body turn soft Trail elbow soft lead elbow to do exactly what we’re talking about with Ben Hogan and Tommy Fleetwood now if I take 10 swings to feel just there to there three 4 five look at this six Tommy seven Hogan eight Hogan nine Hogan there’s no wobble 10 Hogan lovely try and keep that feeling I’ve now swapped to my four iron for the club that I’m playing the shot the hole that I’m [Applause] playing having grained it there to there soft elbows that is one pure 4 iron I think that’s about 10 ft it’s hard to see I’m going to zoom in on that here we go look at that that’s a good 4 iron there you go buy yourself a gem that’s incredible wow I think it’s going to rain so that was a very good Solid 4 iron stopped within 1T so there’s a device that makes you swing like Hogan huh wow 1 2 3 4 12 ft there’s a device that makes you swing like Hogan or gives you the feeling the sensation of swinging like Hogan and Tommy Fleetwood that’s the rain on yes that’s a great to that’s a brilliant too wow did you ever do that f bump on your own there’s nobody here so embarrassing okay this is a really tight Fairway I normally hit two iron it goes up and then turns straight left now the rain’s on so we’ll film as much as we can so yeah two iron there Ben Tommy right there face Square through impact the gy it’s absolutely A1 it’s just split the Fairway I still captured that gem feeling I could feel the wobble is not good thing wow brilliant I get more satisfaction out of a shot like that than I do if I hold a wedge from 50 yards or chipped in or hold a long put a two iron a long iron off a t two iron four iron pure down the middle for me is much more it’s much more satisfaction in that than there is and as I say like hole in a shot it’s just I don’t know it’s like that’s a high T that’s a hard shot that to hit two iron through that Gap there with full control full control love it the best way for me to describe that shot is I own the shot so I’m fully on top of the golf ball I’m fully in control of it owning that golf shot guys sorry to interrupt this video just for one second I did a golf camp this year residential Golf Camp which was very successful I plan on doing a bigger one and a better one next season or possibly at the end of this season in the highlands of Scotland there is a country house a big big country house with its own golf course and I plan on booking the whole the whole establishment um if you’d like to be a part of that we will have obviously golf instruction perhaps a whiskey tasting at night all sorts of things Scottish um drop me an email my email address is on the screen right now in the Co in the subject bar just put Golf Camp um in the email put your name your contact details and your handicap that’s all I need right now and that gives me a note of Interest as to who’s going to be here or not or if it’s worthwhile running it’s going to be quite expensive cuz we’re obviously hiring the whole state um but let me know would you like to be a part of that name handicap contact details and the subject bar Golf Camp let’s move on so the hole comes down goes left into the wind look at the flag moving 144 144 yds now I’m going to take 9 iron flag stop now 9 iron goes 150 144 might even take eight look at the flag wow look at the trees behind it 8 goes 160 so this is just a little gem just a little Ben Hogan just to their soft elbow turn body to left arm soft elbow soft right soft left soft right soft left soft right soft left puts me in the positions I’m after that FL is really moving now the wind’s just got up really got up let’s let it come through okay 144 8 and goes 160 soft right soft left oh it’s just a right edge of the green front right short wasn’t a great shot wow that wind’s really strong I took far too much off that far too much off that I’m going to H another one hold [Music] on it’s the beauty of um coming out so early in the morning you have the to yourself so commit to this a little bit more energy and it’s probably playing a good5 yeah it’s good go yes so that’s good that’s sitting in there 12 ft or so better commitment okay we’ve got one two three four yards to get to the green so five or six yards to carry this was good that was a good shot rotational game wow so five all I’ve got to do now is hit a wedge six yards with the correct trajectory trajectory and this is going to run up to the hole it’ll run a little bit to the left and finish I’ll start a little bit to the right stays perfectly straight this is one of my favorite holes in golf to be honest it’s such a good t-shot and then the second shot if you leave yourself too far back you’ve got to try and draw one around the corner good for I take a four there any day if you leave it too far back you have to draw it around the corner which is hard work really hard work um my two iron just gets to a distance where I can then see the green but I have to hit a really good one so there’s pressure on that which is why there’s so much satisfaction from that shot um driver yes I can come down the slope but there’s water through the left of those trees there’s water there so if you tail it slightly it’s gone fantastic hole go left bunker houses trees it’s it’s just a great hole really good golf hole and if you’re on a decent score going round here it comes at a time in the round that freaks you out really freaks you out oh man third hole from the end it’s whole 16 right one more hole before we finish I’m going to trying and H a low driver here we’re threading the needle again the wind soon as I soon as it gets past this tree on the left the wind’s coming straight at me so this is a tough tough Par Four I’m not sure what stroke Index this is but I I know how hard this is I’m level par now we played 8 9 10 11 16 yeah I’m level par and I know I I’m it’s a par four but I know in my mind I might have to up and down for par even stand on the te I might have to up and down for par so I’m okay with that rather than get up there going off Mr Green I’m standing here thinking okay I might have to up and down for par it’s all right I’ve set myself so you try and keep this driver lower soft right arm soft left arm soft right soft left soft right soft left loads of body turn this wind is getting up the rain started again every time I all that chat was giving you there the wind had died I should have should have just hit it come on Steve oh yes that’s really good like really good and I’ve finished there and my lead arm Trail arm is straight now Hogan is much more here I I’m just finding that a little bit hard to get to but when I feel as though I’m closer to it this camera’s going to blow away when I feel as I’m closer to it I hit shots like that it doesn’t have to be perfect feel un real very different it’s windy okay the drive is spot on absolutely perfect the wind is up 184 184 I’m not sure I’ve got four iron or two iron 184 6 o 180 5 O 190 4 o 200 D I’m going to try and muscle a full iron up there I just think two Iron’s going to it might fly right through it okay four iron Tomy and Ben soft to soft that winds die a fraction I’ve turned over trying to hit it too much oh I think that might have caught a little bit of left green it’s maybe over the bunker didn’t really feel as though I was quite doing what the video said there I was freaking out a little bit more I think because of the wind there I tried to just use a technique that was against what everything we’ve talked about in this video I look back and watch it and possibly possibly got there I don’t know it was a little bit of a sort of over the top lash but you can see how the that wind’s died down now I think it may have died as I played this shot I may have got away with this so distance-wise it’s okay it’s a little bit left so left is longer so it probably would have caught the bunker or if it been straight would have been short so I’ve got 58 sitting right on top of the grass this is tricky don’t want to go under it it’s just world class I’m uh I am more than happy with that one boom that’s a very good fo I knew I’d have to up and down I had a feeling on the tea but worst case scenar it’s a hard green to hit in two it’s a big green but it’s a hard green to hit in two purely because of the distance of the hole it’s very easy to leave it short in one of these bunkers I’m happy with that I’ll leave links in the description below for cadrona I’ll leave links in the description below for the gem so watch Tommy and watch Ben Hogan’s golf swing watch that finish position how soft that lead elbow is through impact not through impact but post impact to encourage the right arm the trail arm to straighten in the Finish which therefore everything the gem teaches you or puts you through as long as you feel no wobble you’ll hit those positions you’ll hit those positions just like I did with that 4 on the 11th of par three guys thanks for watching next time I’m not sure where we are you’re going to leave comments in the box below that’s going to give me some content to create for next time we’ll be somewhere we’ll be out on a golf course in Scotland somewhere and hopefully it’ll be sunny I’ll see you then bye-bye

  1. Hi Steve, firstly smashing video. I've just read hogan's book. I've started focusing on softening my right elbow, and it's automatically straightening my lead arm, and so far it's transformed my swing. I didn't think of doing the reverse, softening my left elbow on the follow-through. Will definitely try this now. Many thanks for this.

  2. A wedge chart sounds like an awesome idea. I'm not sure I could 'feel' the difference between 8, 9 and 10? A lot of practice I'm sure..!!

  3. Great stuff Steve. Yeah, a wedge chart would be interesting and useful. Nice golf course. I always had the impression that Tommy puts the brakes on just prior to impact to help with his cool finish. I like your lead arm soft finish and will give it a shot. Brilliant play on the last hole. Cheers!

  4. A golf pro friend of mine gave me this exact tip and I've been trying to work on it with some success. Should my hands finish level with the plane of my shoulders? My hands seem to be very high up at finish.

  5. I have trouble around the greens getting out of tall grass. I have been shanking the ball off to the right. I think I may be looking up too soon, but even when I try to stay down I shank at least one chip per round.

  6. A fantastic way of making sure the body commits to the swing. I have a lazy torso and feel I’m not swinging through. I’ll try this tomorrow at kilspindie

  7. What happened with the 12 back 3 in you said in your last video that you were going to incorporate in to your driver setup?

  8. These are some of the same swing thoughts I've been working through right now. Thanks for the video Steve. It's great to think I'm on the right track.

  9. Another class video. Really enjoyed hearing you talk about the strategy of the last couple of holes and why that made you like them 👍

  10. Steve can you address trajectory with the wedges, played in a pro am and our pro talked about how amateur’s try to hit there wedges to hard and flying to high making distance control and accuracy an issue. He showed us by using less loft and adjusting back swing you can lower ball flight and control spin! Harder said then done!

  11. Hi Steve. Great video. I would like to see content on a wedge chart as I do struggle with my distances. Also fairway woods😅. Keep up the great work. You changed my game.

  12. Have look at a golf swing in super slow motion, the split second the club makes contact with the ball it's gone, the follow through can have no impact on the ball flight
