My name is Erich and I live in Italy welcome to my channel. I used to play golf on and off for many years, but I started my journey again about 8 years ago, changing my swing completely.

My goal is to become a single figure handicap golfer in the near future.

To achieve this goal, I built my own backyard putting green and set up a backyard golf net. I love playing in my backyard green, doing drills, club reviews and playing at the range and at the course to get better at the game and ultimately reach my goal (hopefully).

all right guys so welcome back to another video so today I’m going to show you how you can calculate your handicap using an app the app is called 18 birdies a lot of people think that handicaps is just what you should overpower uh for instance if you shoot a overpower they think okay my handicap is eight or if you shoot 20 over power my handicap is 20 and it doesn’t work that way as at all because shooting 20 overp par is actually really good and your handicap will be somewhere like in between 17 or 18 so do not make that assumption because there’s other factors going to into calculating a handicap that’s why they have a slope rating and with 18 birdes everything is already calculated there uh when you enter the course you have to register but it’s free or charge so don’t worry about that so basically all you got to do is enter like six to seven rounds try to remember your pass rounds uh ideally would be if you have your score card from your pass rounds and entered it and the only way this is going to work obviously is if it’s your actual score if you start taking Mulligans if you don’t count the penalties then it’s not going to be real it’s not going to be your real handicap so make sure you take into account that and another thing is that um remember with the handicap system it’s going to basically calculate the best eight out of 20 so if you’re able to enter 20 rounds in here it’s only C it’s only going to calculate the best eight if you can see here I put my last like this is actually random it’s not it’s not uh based on a real your life so I put uh for nine holes all of this for nine holes so I put a seven overpar another seven over par I put four overpar for nine holes I put five overpar I put another five overpar three and three overpar okay so now if you think about it that three overpar is for nine holes so in theory it should be like a six overpar right that five over par it should be like a 10 overpar another five so should be a 10 uh this should be an eight because it’s four uh seven actually should be 14 overow and another seven it should be 14 overow okay but if you notice my handicap calculator here is actually 6.6 so you would think like how in the worldless is 6.6 the reason why is what I was talking about before there’s other factors uh like slope rating so there’s a few courses here that were more difficult so even if I shot U seven over power in reality that’s going to be way lower okay so I’m actually going to show you my real handicap here okay so I go into this app right here and my real handicap here this is calculated with real scores with the Italian Federation because I live in Italy um and I’ll show you that is 6.9 okay so that’s my real handicap I can go into the scores and you see that here is g to take the best eight out of the 20 so the ones that are uh like not highlighted in green they’re not um used for the calculation and the other ones are okay and then I want to show you here like on this round right here uh Petersburg the my last round where where it says SD 10.3 now that was a very difficult course and actually I Shot 14 overpower and look at that the the score differential is 10 so it’s not it’s way lower than what I actually shot I shot 14 overpar okay so now let’s go into 18 birdies and I will show you that I actually enter my past uh 20 rounds I think no maybe not all 20 but look at the uh calculation actually a 6.8 is closed because I didn’t enter the last um I couldn’t remember all the shots for the last the last 20 rounds but I did enter my stats okay so you see right here is my last round was 14 overpower gross of 85 and I actually enter everything uh and it’s going to give me you know uh fair in regulation grein in regulations and then right here this was my round where I shot three overpar on a par on a nine holes then four over par or nine holes six over power or nine holes and from all of this I got a handicap of 6.8 so there’s other stats that the app can give you so as long as you put that information right right after you round the same evening or the day after you’re going to be able to remember everything so basically what the what the app asks you uh it goes Ho by hole so you can actually enter a pass round and it will show it will ask you hole number one did you miss uh did you hit the Fairway yes or no if you say no it’s going to ask you did you miss to the right or the left and then it it’s going to ask you um did you on your approach did you hit the green yes or no then it’s going to ask you was a long was a Shore right or left and then it’s going to ask you the number of putts how many putts and it’s going to do it for every single hole and basically you just have to remember that and you know for the most part people will remember whole by Hole uh as long as it’s the same day the day after obviously if a week passes by then it’s going to be hard to remember that’s why I would advise you to do this and you you know to be honest that’s better than having a watch or having some device on your club or you have to just constantly put it in you know because I think that could make you uh you you start you’re going to start focusing on on actually posting you know like how many pots did to do there you’re going to enter in your watch and if you have good memory you just remember that so you just put it you know after your round on your round you just focus on your game after you after you’re round you put all this information and then the the good thing about it is that you can go back and and it will tell you it will say your uh your percentages of uh green green in regulation it’s going favor in regulation and then not only that you’re going to be able to know from 18 holes or actually if you put in you know if you’re able to do this for the past like six seven rounds then you have a lot of data there that it could be useful you’re going to start to understand like okay on my t-shirts I tend to miss to the right or left it says that uh my percentages are mostly right or left and or if you always miss the green to a certain part so this is information that you can use for future rounds and I think it’s great it’s free of charge all you have to do is remember to put that information uh the same day or you know a day after you can also you you will remember that okay so this is the information that I mean uh this is my last round okay I Shot 14 overpower on 18 holes uh Fairways um here in regulation 64% Green in regulation 38.9% so this is good information and then I can go back into my other runs and it will do the same thing okay so I start to see some Trends there so 66% Fairway regulation about the same a little lower then on this one right here I can see that I didn’t hit many F uh greens and regulation but I hit a lot of F and regulation so all right guys so that was it for the video so if you want to know your handicap all you got to do is enter ENT six to seven rounds on 18 birdies and you will find out your handicap now a lot of people think like you know like if you’re like a three handicapper they think like okay this this guy is really really good but you have to remember that is the handicap is calculated based on the best eight rounds out of the past 20 so even if you should like in the ’90s you’re still going to be able to keep a lower handicap so you have to remember that so that just shows you how good professional golfers are because uh even a three handicap or a five handicap you’re still going to have some bad rounds and you’re still your handicap is still going to be pretty good as long as you you post a good score in that past 20 rounds then you’re going to be you’re going to be you can keep a low handicap so that’s the way it works there’s a lot of people who think like you know low handicapper should always shoot like a gray score but it it hasn’t work that way in real life uh you have from 20 rounds the best eight and basically another thing is that um on the course A lot of times it’s going to be lower so if you shoot I mean if you shoot four overp par on a course like on the course that I play if I shoot four overpar is going to actually calculate to be lower than that so A four overpar is really really good and fair enough with a slope rating if it’s a difficult course it’s going to be basically what they’re going to say is that okay you show forward part but it was a difficult course so we’re going to calculate two overpower and that’s going to count towards your handicap and that’s why a lot of times um depending on the courses you play the handicaps are going to tend to be a little lower as you seen there where I Shot 14 overow and actually a a calculated 10 overpow simply because the course was very very difficult so it’s based on the I guess on the type of course that you play uh the other way around as well you know if it’s a really really simple course then it’s going to do the opposite it’s going to set okay you shot uh three overpar but this is a very easy course so we’re going to give you a handicap calculation of four all right guys so that was it for the video so if you want to know your handicap remember to download the app it’s free of charge put in like five or six rounds and then you will find out what is your handicap so guys I hope you enjoyed the video make sure to leave a like and if you haven’t subscribed to the channel make sure to do so thanks for watching guys until next time [Music]
