first off uh how you feeling after that performance well I’m happy as can be you know um I thought I kicked hard you know and I think Josh kind of makes everybody think I don’t kick so hard anymore so I got that a little bit on the brain but no mainly I’m just happy as can be you know um all the all the challenges and hard work um paid off you know and uh here we are and before I forget it looked like you were trying to grab the mic from Michael to say something I’ll I figure I’d give you the floor to say whatever you were trying to say in the Octagon oh both I wanted to get a picture with Michael and then uh I just wanted to make sure everybody knew that uh you know I wanted to wish all the fathers out there especially my dad a Happy Father’s Day you know it’s tomorrow um you know this man showed me what it means to to work and and to you know basically wake up and and go to the grime you know and uh with his lessons you know that’s that’s why why I’m here today you know is doing the the real work putting it in every day was he here with you tonight as well he’s right there what do he think about your performance was he proud of you oh yeah I think so that’s awesome well first uh tell me what was the game plan for for Josh tonight honestly uh I guess I’ve gotten this reputation of being a little bit more of a a wrestler SL Grappler in the sport and uh which is fine you know I I definitely think I am a wrestler and a Grappler you know um that’s my my main base but uh I’ve done a lot of Muay Thai and you know um so going down to camp in Arizona we we kind of just pinpointed some spots that we really wanted to sharpen up and that was you know I don’t always respect my own range you know I got this long Wings span and most of the time I have a longer range than everybody but I don’t always kind of give myself that credit and I go crashing in there and I put myself in exchanges that aren’t always favorable for me you know um because I also am a wrestler and I like to clinch so a lot of that came down to keeping the space with the right kind of footwork um utilizing the the tools and the Weaponry that I do have you know um I know Josh made it look like I don’t kick hard but I do think I kick very hard with the left kick and uh so utilizing the left kick the right kick up the middle round you name it you know um stay long pump that jab make them have to crash into me so that you know maybe I can get an easy takedown that’s wrestlers like easy takedowns well for a wrestler I think the hands look pretty darn good and especially in the third round it looked like your hands were definitely flowing pretty good when did it really feel like your striking felt on point did it take a little bit to sort of warm up and find that range so literally we’re in the back and and Coach Eddie Chaw was talking about you know um going over just the the final stuff trying to get keep me focused another thing that you know um I was working down there is just keeping focused and uh so we were talking about it and he’s like look I think that we’re going to be fine with some of our our evasion work our triangle offense um it’s when you start landing and he starts giving that respect that you know I don’t think that I I think that’s where you’re going to you know find a little bit tougher time finding your range and um prior to this fight you know prior to this Camp me going forward was just all I I knew so um I I could always kind of find my range because I was crashing into people playing out there um at range at my my distance and having somebody kind of not try to pressure me and having to cut that distance little by little you know that that’s definitely something that uh I’m still I’m excited to put more work and effort into and uh because yeah second round I I found that range um kind of realized where I could touch him and and and evade his punches and then things just kind of started clicking for me you know um just hit that flow state did anything from him surprise you out there yeah I mean shoot he I’m sorry he took two maybe three head kicks and and I didn’t even get a wobble out of him you know I mean that was Shin on head and he didn’t even budge and so his durability was you know I already knew he was durable but his durability is just second to none and he hits like a Mac Truck you know um I got a little eardrum uh going you know I don’t think it’s ruptured but it’s definitely feels like it got water in my ear right now so you know he hit me with a ton of bricks and it looked like you guys had a little moment of respect right immediately after the the fight ended can you share what you guys said to each other just you know it was a pleasure to to to share the octagon with him you know the field of battle um again I talk about the story of this fight you know I think it’s something all the UFC fans can kind of you know get behind understand it’s it’s two guys that you know we didn’t had a little bit of a you know unlucky first contract you know both one and two we both know the repercussions of not getting it done tonight and um you know so I knew we were talking about our spots in the back where we could potentially find a finish you know and in my head I’m just like there’s no way that this is going to be a allout 15minute war we got to work I know Josh you know just just getting that energy from him he’s not going any where he’s not going anywhere he’s not going away he’s not going to let me knock him out you know and uh that’s how it played out it was a 15minute war and you know uh and so we just you know hugged it out at the end and and gave our you know gratitude you know for that moment I’m thankful for it and I hope he is too it’s only going to make both of us better and when you’re there waiting and starting to hear the judges make their call were you confident you had done enough I was confident until I heard that split and then you know I don’t know if I can use the dirty language on whatever you want oh that that oh [ __ ] Factory kicked in I’m like oh no oh no I I hope they they saw it my way you know I I did enough I did enough and so just trying to reset put myself back in the present moment you know um however that’s the the dangerous thing about leaving in the judge’s hands you know is they can see it one way um I know that this is MMA and a lot of uh judges may not score those kicks as actual you know um Landing shots I score them as damage you know um take a shin bone up against the forearm and tell me it doesn’t hurt you know um and if your main weapon is a a a right hand if I kick that thing enough and you ain’t gonna want to throw it you’re G you know put that hand down at a risk of getting head kicked I I don’t think so so so what’s the next step do you do you take a little break do you enjoy this with the friends and family or are you the kind that Monday comes around and you’re you’re right back in the gym uh you know I’m gonna I’m G have to get back to you on that one I got my manager right over here uh we got Shan Shelby to talk to about a new contract and uh yeah uh we’re going to go from there one step at a time and uh just grateful for the whole experience was this the last fight on the contract it was well hopefully you get that nod I think with that performance you guys deserve it that was that was a lot of fun thank you so much congrats on the victory yeah you have a good night
