the Iceland game you know there was a real split between people saying it’s a warm-up game there were lots of reasons for that not clicking G Southgate talked about it in terms of it focuses the mind but what did it do to to you all as as players no of course it was way off our standards that’s for sure um we that that intensity of the pressing the um being aggressive again this is football these things happen it’s not why we got complacent un for it’s Iceland we always we always respect our opposition but it was just one of those games where it just didn’t click forward but you know it it reminded us a lot about a lot of things we’ve uh reviewed the game we’ve worked hard on the pitch since the Iceland game and you had the um the tournament stars for us on SGA Serbia and um we worked hard really hard do you feel in in in tournament mode now I mean the Scotland game opens things up tonight yeah I think it that’s that that’s what that’s when you start feeling it you know when when the russle goals for the first game that’s when it starts so um yeah we we all can’t wait we’re all really excited we’re all calm and ready um and yeah looking forward to watching the game tonight who are you looking at in terms of the main opponents obviously Englander are one of the favorites a lot of talk about Portugal looking really good France in particular Spain as well who who are you kind of got your eye on well honestly I don’t think we can view it like that I think if you know you look at Germany you know Spain as you said France Portugal there there’s so many good Nations so all we all we need to do is focus on ourselves but most importantly we need need need we just need to focus on Seria that that that is our ear Focus no nothing more we’re not looking fur further ahead we’re not being I re them in in that way our focus is firmly on Serbia um and finding ways to to to win that game what are you what are you looking at in terms of their biggest strengths yeah you can see the through a physical side they got players who have played in the Premier League before they’ve got quality I think they’ve got a new manager as well um so yeah we’re expected a difficult game it always is a tournament football um and yeah um we’re ready um and I’m sure they will be as well but the most important thing is focus focus on ourselves be calm in the game be patient and um yeah we’ve trained really well so hopefully can put that uh in into performance on something they’re a pretty attack-minded team and the criticisms of of this England side as it is with Harry MaGuire out injured obviously younger players beding themselves in um it feels like we haven’t got the kind of solid stable backfall that we’ve been used to for quite a while Lewis dun made some interesting comments the other day when he came in and it was put to him that maybe the defense was the weakest part of uh of this England squad and he was immediately batted that back and said that’s your opinion not ours what’s Kieran Tripp’s opinion I agree with him I think don’t get me wrong Harry McGuire is vital to this team of course he is he’s he’s been here for so long he’s experienced but I don’t see how people see that our our defense is a weakness we’ve got M we’ve got uh donkey we’ve got as um so many quality players so for for me internally we don’t look at it like that we don’t focus it like that we’ve got the 26 that are here um but again that that that’s for for people on the outside to to think about what internally we’re we’re Cal we’re we’re not worried but we understand how is how he’s a big Miss for us of course he is but this is the team that we have now this is the 26-man squad and we’ve all just got to stick together and we believe in um you know and and our performances and and you see our Squad it’s just full of quality yeah it really is one of those quality players going forwards is Anthony Gordon who you really know very well from from Newcastle on the left hand side you could potentially be partnering up with him a little bit how much does that help having a teammate whose game you know really well um to operate down that leftand side yeah I’m really happy for for Anthony because when he first arrived at Newcastle he I think he’ll he won’t mind me saying that he he struggled a little bit in the sense of um like Fitness wise and stuff like that but I had a good chat with him um we was on holiday together before he went and won the Euros the 21s and and since then he’s he’s took off and he fully deserved to be here I think he’s he’s he’s certainly ear the right to be here so he’s trained really well um really happy for him um but again if he’s playing or not as I don’t know the team so I’m not trying to I’m not trying to catch you out I’m telling you the truth it’s it I might not been replaced I don’t I don’t know so um yeah I’m I’m sure he’ll be itching at the chance to be starting at a EUR old of course you know we got 26 players um it’ll be itching but again everybody will be ready was called upon are you going to take credit then for for his upturn in form after this chat what did what did you say to him no it was just we had a nice chat in was on a holiday to go with our families and um you know I was just saying it was just maybe trying a bit too hard when he first arrived um but I just said to him as soon as you finish with 21s you know don’t take a holiday come straight back into season first day hit the ground running and he certainly has you you see how fit he is you know off the ball what what what people might not see he’s um he’s Relentless and he’s done incredibly well and I couldn’t be been more happier for him it’s really interesting actually the um the youngsters coming up and I don’t know whether you know now you’re not the oldest in the group Kyle’s here yeah he’s back um I I feel as if from my time of covering England this new crop of players coming in have got a different confidence to them um do do you see that if you look at the players that com in now they’re all so young but they’re playing at such a high level um and that can only give them confidence as well so when they arrive with England for the first time if it may be about the players like myself walks hurri Kane all the senior players it’s our well I feel like it’s our responsibility to make them feel as calm as possible um more relaxed so that you know they can express themselves they can play their best level so um but they’ve all settled in perfectly and they all they’ve all enjoyed it um and we’re here to support them and I feel like that’s our responsibility as all the players but to be a leader you don’t need to be 32 33 you can be 18 19 you can lead in different ways so they started really well um some of them have opened up a lot more now they’ve been with us which is good to see so um hopefully they have an unbelievable experience in a go on and if they call upon
