practice got underway at Piner number two today ahead of the US Open fans had a chance to see Tiger Woods and web Simpson on the green along with other players Chris Lee Joins us live from pioner Chris it’s always exciting when tiger is in a tournament field but this is more special because it’s here in our own backyard absolutely in the 124th US Open and the first one at the anchor site since the USGA headquarters are literally right over there I’m looking at him but all day today fans have been going in and out of these Gates behind me Gerald we’re about a 100 yards away from the practice putting green and the practice driving range and since about 7:00 fans going in and out just to get a look and maybe an autograph and maybe a picture with their favorite golfers of course you named them Tiger Woods and Raleigh’s own web Simpson that’s one of the main reasons why I came here I drove from Mississippi last night to get here to come watch I’m on the practice rounds cuz I’m only here till Wednesday I hope he can stick it together and stay healthy should have a chance fans like Garrett Blanchard are traveling just to get a glimpse of greatness we’re not sure how much time tager Woods has left competing for Majors but the 15-time major Champion continues to push through despite dealing with nagging injuries the last few seasons Woods played some practice holes at Pinehurst number two this morning and took some practice swings at the driving range so this place is my favorite place Raleigh native web Simpson was bursting with excitement when speaking to the media today I love Pinehurst uh we spend a good amount of time here we’re here a couple weekends a month as a family Simpson not only spent some time here he grew up coming to this course often with his family this year Simpson had to qualify to make it into the field now he has a chance to win his second US Open championship this time at one of his favorite courses in the nation cuz it’s a golf course that I feel like I know really well I feel comfortable on and um I just didn’t want to miss the US Open in my backyard it’s a brutally hard golf course I think what Martin kimr did in 2014 was incredible I don’t foresee anybody doing what he did then uh you never know because guys are so good web Simpson wanting so badly to get his second US Open championship of course the last time he won was in 2012 and since then he’s been trying to make sure that he was going to be here in his backyard for the US Open now he’s here he has a grand opportunity to hoist up that Trophy this Sunday when the championship is concluded but before we get there we’re just going to enjoy the week Chris Lee wo Sports Pine s
