Homestead senior golfer Jack Burda full interview 6/10/2024
first off congrats to this Homestead team not only qualifying for state but you guys win a regional title for you guys to really execute at a high level last week just how did you guys put it all together up at Warsaw yeah we just I mean we just stuck to our plan as a team and trusted each other it was a really windy day greens were fast so it was tough conditions but um at the end of the day uh each of us are playing our own ball so we’re just kind of out there doing our own thing and at the end of the day we looked up and we were winning you’re one of two seniors on this year’s varsity team just how have you led the way and and showed a strong example for a team that’s had such a strong winning culture yeah obviously I’m really grateful that we have such a mature team at I mean a really young age like we have freshman Landon who is our low guy at Regional kayen was our low guy at sectional and he’s only a sophomore and um the type of maturity that those guys show at a really young age and um obviously Ryan and Noah as well um the type of maturity that show as a squad um at a really young age is super super cool and something that’s kind of rare in high school golf so it’s kind of made my job easier as a senior I haven’t had to show them a lot cuz they’re already so experienced and so mature well you guys have passed every test so far this season and you’re going to handle uh one kind of like un uh kind of like one you haven’t seen so far this season going down to State 36 holes you’re taking on the best of the best in the state how do you guys handle uh such a a tall task this week we can caral yeah I mean I think for us we’re just shoting at like a lot of our summer tournaments um a lot of Summer tournaments are 36 54 even 72 holes so just treat it like one of those and um we’re going to get a really good reps down there a practice round today and uh really get the green speeds right uh take notes of where the pins are going to be but at the end of the day you’re just playing golf so uh it doesn’t really matter who you’re playing against you kind of just have to focus up and um play your best you graduated on Sunday right yep for you to put a bow on your high school career like this going down to States one last meet with the guys just uh how are you taking this all in yeah no I’m super grateful I’m super grateful that we are such a a fun team to be around not only such a mature team like I mentioned before but we were such a fun team to be around uh all the guys on the team genuinely like each other which again is kind of uh rare for high school golf you don’t get that a lot uh there can be some jealousy that can kind of uh breed between the players but not uh not for us not here at Homestead and I’m super grateful that I get to share this last moment with them
