I mean that is so good it’s ridiculous that was a heck of a golf [Applause] shot know I always dreamed of coming here and playing in this tournament and you know it’s a dream come true just to be here in the field the house that Jack built here at mirfield V Golf Club it creates a huge test for every single player out here that’s going to draw the best players in the world you’re trying to win Jacks you’re trying to win ARS you’re trying to win Tigers the list of winners here through the years decorated I watched some of the guys I’ve looked up to my whole life walk off that 18 green and Shake Mr Nicholas’s hand I think it’s a pretty good tournament to win fill out of resume I don’t think there’s any question about that it would mean a lot to me to be able to shake his hand and and win this gol tournament you know with all the all the history here and what Mr Nicholas has meant to the game Jack Nicholas’s prize tournament title the memorial mirfield Village the house that Jack built this golf course doesn’t care about your memories or Good Vibes it’s one of the hardest courses we play all year so you definitely have to bring your A game whether you’re defending Champion or not welcome to credential the Memorial tournament presented by workday what do we got here topics from Memorial to your competitive form to the playoffs sounds good it’s not that I’m seeking Perfection it’s like I know what I’m capable of and I want to push the boundaries working on a few swing changes seems to be struggling just a bit but there is no quit in this guy every single thing that I’ve done has helped me to play better golf but definitely have to spend a little bit more time and make sure that if I’m going to go in a different direction it’s a little bit more planned out I do kind of think my track breaker speaks for itself this would really be a huge putt for Victor hin it’s nice to kind of relive some of those moments can someone finally take the lid off here at 17 yes they can hin makes birdie at 17 and goes to seven under par that was just a really good sign that my game was good enough to can compete anywhere if I can win a this golf course I can win anywhere from Oslo to Ohio Victor hlin is the champion this was my first win that at least that I consider a really hard golf course he’s proved to himself that he’s got what it takes to compete with the best in the world on the biggest stages toughest golf courses when it’s really demanding mentally and physically this is a big one and there going to be many more to come jain’s first professional Victory on American soil ignited a sensational stretch that lasted through the summer up to the moment Victor hin at his absolute best obviously riding good momentum there hitting the ball great chipping a great and putting really nice first career multi- win season and the lowest final round in FedEx Cup history of final round 61 when I took all those experiences going into East Lake I just felt super comfortable that week he’s the season long Victor these last three wins that he’s Reed off the memorial BMW Championship and now here that is going to instill so much confidence in him even though I had the game to compete I never truly believed it and I feel like the believe was the last missing peace we didn’t know it at the time but that just unleashed the powers [Music] within first on the te your Memorial Tournament champion from 2023 Victor havlin was a good round wow what a shot I’m pretty happy with that 300 par a little Breezy out there how about this ride the wave guys that is cash money right there back to back birdies even though the greens are a little bit softer um still really hard out there here’s Xander shley it’s almost like it can’t not go in goodness what a run gets him to three under [Music] par I’m happy with how I played with how I stuck in there and really happy my short came bailed me out on a day that could have been a lot worse ludvig oberg for birdie three in a row there for oberg now obviously this golf Wars is very challenging and and it Demands a lot of good golf shots excellent start 4 under 68 ludvig oberg playing with Scotty kind of expect go golf and it’s always nice to play with someone that’s also playing well Scotty Sheffer just doing what he does so well hitting iron shots his wedges close to the hole ball strike was really good and was able to hold a few putts as well so overall pretty pleased with the round today come on baby I love being out here competing and shaping up to be another great tournament here in [Applause] Ohio this is a really beautiful place I wish I could pause time and just paint everything right now you know this is like one of those times I’ve definitely seen golf courses before but um I don’t think think I’ve ever seen a professional golf course except for like on TV movies yeah that’s pretty I I kind of want to see some some distance to like like right there even like against the sun anything against the sun right now is looking really good and I feel like I could add some nice blue into the Shadows of the trees that’s pretty nice you want to walk get out and yeah yeah let’s get out and going to get out and take and take a look I usually paint in Altoids containers I do plain air painting which is painting on location Outdoors all right probably painting this one at a golf course I’m just excited about all the the opportunity to paint atmospheric perspective of green and blue and I’m kind of excited about trying to paint the the rolling landscape too what I do is I put a wood panel into the lid and then I put oil paint into the tray down here and then I just paint from life I’m actually just going to mix those together with kind of like an orange tone well maybe the challenges of painting this small is uh is is painting small painting detail if you have small brush is it’s not it’s not so bad what’s nice about it is how portable it is you can paint pretty much anywhere and don’t worry it it will it’ll turn green later I I just really like this composition first of all the creek coming through the Fairway and then the clock tower as the focal point of this this piece right here the branches coming down and then the light that was coming through the leaves it’s just kind of like the whole package it’s kind of just a kind of like a complete image that sort of represents golf while Strokes can paint the picture of a mint conditioned landscape the first round ticks on at mirfield Village as the field aims to limit Strokes of Their Own hold the line yes maoy fighting back for three in a row gets it four out of his last five really nice rally guys that are playing really well are at the tops of their games right now and they’re they’re putting together really good scores excellent stop from Maraca this to get to four under he’s building to something hopefully we can put together three more and Come Together by Sunday and birdie for Billy very nice opening round for H the 2022 Champion shoot 69 a 15 shot improvement from last year’s first round 84 but the lead belongs to Adam hadwin played a really solid round of golf today had one for his birdie to take the solo lead I was in play off the tea I hit a bunch of greens I had some good looks and then got going on the back n Adam hadin tried to tack on another one here at 17 and does it’s only Thursday a lot of golf left you got three more rounds to go and God I’ve been torn apart by this place before so I know how quickly it can can sneak up on you day one in the books here shaping up to be a good one isn’t it you look at the first page of the leaderboard that bodge well for the next three rounds I love the manual scoreboard it feels old school that’s perfect they they make it feel like an old school tournament but it’s got a big time feel you don’t see that much anymore and so I feel like you’re kind of back in time a little bit people still love any little niches that bring out that classic old school and like historical look you sort of associate with special places and it’s a very cool part of it I’ve been very fortunate Jack’s given a lot of great advice I think when he told me I don’t know five or six years ago or something like that that yeah you have an ideal way you’re going to maybe play a golf course but one day the wind’s different or or it’s 20 30 degrees colder it’s warmer or it’s you don’t feel well some like stuff changes and I think that taught me to be kind of the the artistic athletic self that I feel like I am on a golf course and kind of embrace that Jack was so consistent his whole career and you know he was a family man and so I looked up to him in those in those regards for sure and not only that but how he approached the game and you know he was a tough competitor but he was very gracious you know in Victory and defeat and so I felt like I learned a lot from him in both of those aspects what he’s done off the golf course with the Children’s Hospital has been incredible and what this area means to him and how much support he has and uh what he does for the game of golf I think if I could try to mirror what he’s done off the golf course you know is a good ambition on the Green last year when I one I asked him a question out of all the wins like how many times did you win were you just played your game and didn’t do anything stupid per se and he said it was about like 50/50 which is interesting cuz I think I’ve felt when I’m in contention that I just got to keep making birdies and birdie every hole to catch the other guy whereas a lot of times you just have to play solid Golf and not do anything crazy what I’ve learned is that he likes a tough property he likes to challenge players he’s old school and he wants to see the guy who can hit the highest and control his number of the best and be able to do everything well win his golf tournament it is round two of one of the PGA Tours Premier stops guys are having to fight hard out there I like tough golf courses when you get conditions like this some guys are handling and some guys aren that’s just the way it goes it’s always tough out here at Memorial but today was extra tough it’s one of the best rounds I’ve played all year I it was just was pretty windy out there it was Gusty and it was just enough to make you think they’re chasing this guy the Canadian Adam hadwin looking for his second career win there’s so many shots where you have to be spot on beautiful touch hadwin in with 72 on a tough Golf Course especially in a position for me that I haven’t been in in a while and staring at leaderboards all day with my name on the top so that’s pretty darn good and 36 holes Victor hlin this rough is just so sticky that is fantastic greens were firmer today so that already makes the greens play a little bit smaller a lot of thinking and and guessing right up and down the difference between Victor today and Victor two years ago at her short game can argue against the results I’m playing some nice golfs so just got to keep it going now one shot off the lead for the defending champ Scotty sheffler back to eight under and two shot lead big crowd there loving that being out here in the arena and competing you know with cameras and fans and people watching you the nerves are kind of a sign that you care best the world right there three shot lead going to the weekend he’s winning a lot of people over with this [Music] gol we thought this might be like a Tiger Woods type Golf Course where the best player always seems to dominate that’s exactly what schiffler is doing after a hardfought second round 74 Billy horel knows the Peaks and valleys of mirfield Village mirroring the 2022 Champions Journey the last two years the game is like life it’s up and down when the Good’s good it never feels like it’s going to you know not be good support shot win Billy her at his best when it’s bad it never seems like it’s going to get back to being good Billy is just not having it today yeah look Billy does have any idea which direction it’s going he hadn’t hit a solid yeah I mean it’s tough right now working really hard trying to do the right things and the team’s doing everything really well it’s just it sucked today shoot 84 the first round and may add on to all the struggles I had for majority of the year um it was just a very low point you know when you have so much passion and desire for something and you put everything into it and you’re not getting anything out of it it’s going to wear on anybody but I look at it as a bright side too because by sharing that openly which was sort of impromptu and and it wasn’t something I was planning on doing really lifted a lot of weight off my shoulders I felt really felt better felt better about myself felt better about my game I just felt like there was Improvement I went down the cralis for one reason one reason only to win I felt really good with my game I felt like a win was coming I didn’t want to sit at home for another week a final round 63 for Marshall his eighth career win on the PGA tour think back to where I was almost a year ago to where I am now sometimes you got to take your medicine because of where you’ve been in the game and and I was happy that I came down here I played really well we’ worked really hard since this point last year to sort of climb back up that mountain I’m still not where I want to be but I’m enjoying the climb a lot more than I did last year perfect she doesn’t know she’s going to walk she doesn’t know she’s going to walk she thinks she’s just standing watching you tea off hey Tony hey how’s it going say hi to Sydney hi you’re Sydney how are you I’m good how are you nice to meet you I’m Tony Sydney is uh Jack Nichols uh spirit Award winner oh incredible for this year I know you’re thinking you’re just going to watch us tea off but would you mind walking a couple holes with us I love that yeah let’s hear it for [Music] Sydney you seem a lot more mature than 12 I I I’m like 13 in a month okay you want to be a doctor when you grow up huh mhm what kind of doctor you want to be I want to be a pediatric anesthes that’s what I want to be working with kids mhm I love that I’m sure you’re a lot smarter than me I when I was that age so do you have a good time mhm it’s so fun great to get to know her she’s got great uh dreams and aspirations that’s pretty inspiring when I look back on this I think it’s just it’s going to make me want to do golf again I think cuz this was awesome so hey 18 has made the trip to Dublin for the last 9 years to play perhaps his second favorite game it’s always a special day to go behind the ropes and to see these Pros as they’re preparing to play in a tournament golf’s a funny thing for me the more I worked at it in football the more I saw Improvement golf that doesn’t necessarily take place it’s cool that a guy that one of the best in his sport all time and Hall of Famer and all that he he’s so invested in golf and and I hear he’s an absolute Golf Nut we’re never going to sit behind an o line and try and throw dimes it’s just never going to be a thing for us but you know the fact that he’s he’s coming into our world and getting a taste of it is really cool hard so hard he to beat you all although he’s a Tennessee guy I still respect Payton quite a bit he’s super super supportive not only of all of golf but you know he’s always giving me words of encouragement or wishing me luck it was great well play with Rory for nine holes Jason day for nine holes I don’t know how you beat that it was great great day welcome back to round three from magnificent mirfield Village Golf Club where it’s the Scotty Sheffer show at the moment Sheffer birdie two the first three holes it’s already opened up a five shot lead over Victor hoplin and Adam hatn put for eagle and it is a fast one and it is tracking doy hello [Music] oh this is left somehow got through those trees sheesh that is a seven really tough break there but did a good job resetting and bouncing back you know I had the nice Birdie on 10 and 12 Sheffer for birdie at 12 you better believe it so off to the stumble at nine makes a couple birdies in the next three holes and now Colin and this for 68 beautiful round to golf there from Colin boy fre I don’t expect Scotty to fall back I’m still going to have to go out and shoot a really good really good score tomorrow 14 was a bit of a disaster make that a double wow oh my goodness back to even on the day just like that just in execute golf shots give four shots to the best player in the world is kind of difficult but I did go post 66 earlier this week so hopefully do it again tomorrow I can do it can he’s won 10 times since 2022 he’s becoming a prolific closer he’s 5 for seven when he’s got outright 54 whole leads literally made triple and they still can’t take the lead from him it’s it’s unfair it’s exciting to watch him the tiger Vibe the crowd everyone and he’s still just locked in I think he’ll yeah no one’s catching up to him he he he’s the best Scot Scotty what a ride it was today 71 in the end the golf of course the think it’s going to get tougher the greens are going to get firmer I’d assume the fairways are going to get firmer as well and so should be another tough day out there and I’m looking forward to the challenge welcome to the final round at mirfield Village Golf Club golf always seeks its next Superstar it’s fair to assume that Scotty Sheffer fits that description the lead though has shrunk huge put to maintain a two shot lead that’s quite poor so it’s back to back holes where he’s uh given up some shots and now have one needs this okay beautiful start for him 300 in his first seven just a sand wedge on the way and you got to be a brave man to take on this whole location he’s done it wow what a shot it’s a lot of fun obviously being in these final rounds and and being in these final groupings It’s just tough Golf and you just have to hit good shots there are no Sunday Blues with the putter today for morawa morawa goes out at 35 it’s 37 for [Applause] [Music] Scotty he needs help now from the two in front yeah holes running out probably a little too far back back morawa well this is good looking there b deed Colin made a good push today he was a tough guy to beat but I felt like I stepped up when I needed to there in the end he’s had a lot of moments just like this and does it again it’s getting a little closer to shaking the great man’s hand so he’s got a putt for the win yes he knows the handshake is coming and here it comes Mr Nicholas did a lot of great things for the game of golf but you know the effect he had on his community and in our country as well is is very special and so I’ve looked up to him for a long time it’s special to be here and it’s you know even more special to be the winner [Music]
