you are the perfect guy to ask about the top story that came out of Adrien W narowski on game day on Thursday since you left the Big East for the NBA leaving seatan hall for Portland and one of the players that was on seatan Hall when you did that was in fact Dan Hurley and how about them apples that Dan Hurley is apparently just down the street from the studio today meeting with the Lakers PJ what’s your two cents on this subject matter well I I I think first B for the Lakers it would be an excellent choice the Lakers are You Know Rich it’s you grow up in basketball and and uh you we known each other for an awful long time you say basketball jobs the Lakers of the Celtics would be two of the best basketball jobs in the world not not in the United States uh not in college or in the world there there’s no better job more prestigious job than coaching the Boston Celtics or the Los Angeles Lakers uh Danny’s had two years years that are incredible the job he’s done at Yukon the last two years winning back-to-back national championships particularly this year because they had the bullseye on their back from day one uh so much was expected uh they got everybody’s best shot every time they played you can’t do a better coaching job than Danny and his staff did this year so I think he established himself uh just how special a coach he was and I I think for the Lakers right now they’re kind of at a cross Road you know the uh in in the one sense uh LeBron’s not getting any younger uh ad is certainly going to be there Anthony Davis for a long time but they they need to make a splashy higher they need to get kind of a special guy in there they need to get somebody that maybe can turn things around the western conference is so good uh it was extremely deep again this year it’s going to be even better next year uh other than Golden State who maybe are at a little bit of a Crossroads themselves with with Steph and Draymond and and and clay getting on uh every team’s getting better every team is improving it’s going to be even tougher next year uh for for the Lakers so I I think if if they’re able uh to to bring somebody like Danny in I think a it’s a great impact higher B they’ve got a young coach still relatively uh in coaching age who could do a great job with that team and and can maybe get them back up where they can compete I mean they were you know six teams ahead of them or seven teams ahead of them uh in the regular season uh it’s not going to get any easier next year uh the challenge of course you you’ve got the great thing you’ve got uh tradition unlike almost any other in basketball uh you’ve got arguably I try and be impartial the best or the second best player in the history of the game and LeBron James and in Anthony Davis you got a first team all NBA players so they have a fantastic starting point to go with but they’ve got their work cut out for them it’s not going to be an easy job I don’t know what’s going to happen uh you know obviously is going to be very flattering to Danny obviously it’s going to be a a contract offer that’s going to be very very attractive but I don’t know whether this is the time for him to leave only he’s you know knows the answer to that he’s leaving one of the best I’m Prejudice or biased I’ve always loved the Big E conference and and particularly their emphasis on basketball he’s got the best job in the Big E conference at Yukon I he’s just won a couple national championships I don’t know whether that makes it the ideal time to leave or the last time you would ever want to leave a situation and I think Danny’s going to have to sort that out my understanding from W is that he’s going out there uh sometime this weekend and we’re probably looking at at a quick decision from both sides I you know I don’t think it’s a definite yet in terms of uh I I do believe when they sit down the Lakers may make the offer if they haven’t already but I I don’t know what Danny’s response is going to be it’s a it’s a decision I think a a lot of people would love to have but uh whether’s whether now is the right time or not I’m just not sure just uh the Laker job’s not going to come open very many times so uh it’s something I’m sure Danny’s going to give it a real real serious consideration and make make a decision and knowing Danny I think he’s going to make a decision relatively quickly rich I don’t think this is going to linger on uh I was a little surprised it got out not surprised that W knew it but uh there really wasn’t much said about it now all of a sudden it’s a huge story along with the uh with the finals but but I I don’t think it’s going to linger very long yeah I mean it’s it’s huge when the two-time defending national champion head coach in college gets an opportunity with the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of uh LeBron’s career with his son available in the draft and Anthony Davis being as good as he is and the Lakers needing to make a splash as you pointed out so I guess my last question for you is what would you counsel him about going from college to the pros even though obviously College is a totally different Beast now with nil and transfer portals and things of that nature what what would you say to him and and and your thoughts on his uh abilities to be translatable at the next L well you know I think we will get a chance to talk I think you know hopefully someone like Brad Stevens would be a tremendous resource because he’s made the move he and uh dunan have made the moves relatively recently Brad’s a unique perspective because he’s been in the front office too he can give Danny better Insight than uh a lot of can give him in terms of you know what just what’s available how much flexibility there is uh in the Laker roster what kind of moves they can make going you know going forward right now um the the one thing is you got to be on the same page with your front office and that’s you know jeie Boston Rob pinka uh Kurt Ramis the people that are running the Lakers they absolutely have to be on the uh same page with Danny the biggest difference in in college and and the NBA is in college once you’ve been there for a few years and you’re established which Danny certainly is you are the front office you’re the general manager you control the program you go out you identify the players you want you get them to come they come to in this case Connecticut to play for you it’s not that way in the NBA because of the you know uh salary cap because of free agency you’re not going to be able to control the roster that’s what the front office people do and uh very often the teams that are successful for a long time and I’m talking like a te like San Antonio where I was lucky enough to be an assistant for five years the Lakers with Pat Riley in charge uh Golden State when uh Bob Myers was there and Steve Kerr for so long and that roster stayed pretty much the same they’re on the same page believe it or not and I’m sure you know Rich there are some uh teams in the 30 teams in the NBA where the coach and the front office are not necessarily on the same page and that’s the biggest adjustment you don’t control your roster uh it’s a players League Danny understands that he’s not going to be surprised he knows coaching LeBron James and coaching Anthony Davis is going to be different than coaching anybody he’s ever coached uh in college but at the same time the timing is such it’s the Los Angeles Lakers uh what they’ve done at Yukon I hate to say it but if for whatever reason Danny doesn’t like it they don’t like him it doesn’t work out he can certainly go back to almost any college job he wants but is Connecticut going to be open I mean he’s leaving one of the ideal College jobs you could ever have and he’s got one of the ideal potentially NBA jobs you ever have so which one do you want to do I I always felt that if it didn’t work out in the NBA I could have gone back to college I it did it never had to do it I enjoyed the NBA an awful lot uh there’s c one thing I’m sure of there’s more nil money in Los Angeles than there is in Connecticut I love that LJ is important this just in this just in isn’t it life amazing PJ like what if I told you when you’re heading off to Portland oh by the way the the uh next head coach of the Lakers is on that that that kid that hotheaded kid that hot-headed kid son of a coach in New Jersey right that that’s the kid he’s going to have two national championships and he’s going to have an generational contractual offer from the LA Lakers he’s special he deserves it rich I’ll tell you what he’s not a good coach we were lucky enough to we westw won I had eight of their NC AA games in the past two years he’s not a good coach he’s an exceptional coach and it certainly shouldn’t be surprising growing up in that household no doubt catch the rich eyes and show every single day on the Roku Channel 12 to 3 Eastern for free

  1. Yeah he’s the perfect guy to let Hurley know how not to be a prick to grown men. Sprewell choked out that overseer mentality even though he got blackballed over it.

  2. The West is going to be crazy next season. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies are going to be healthy, OKC, DENVER, MINNESOTA, HOUSTON will be even better, NEW ORLEANS…. and so on.

  3. This life is temporary and but a blip on the screen of eternity. Whereas Jesus Christ is coming soon for his believers. Wake up! Acknowledge your creator Jesus Christ and spend eternity in heaven.
    🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

  4. Danny should not go to the Lakers until Leflop is gone.
Leflop could poison his coaching position.
There are other teams or just wait until Leflop leaves.
    Simple

  5. Pj sucked in the pros and he hates the lakers , I don’t even have to watch the video to know what he’s gonna say…,

  6. San Antonio Spurs (Pop will retire soon) is the best place for him, if he WANTS to move on to the NBA. UConn is his best option right now, and he's probably just using the Lakers interview to negotiate for a better deal for him and his assistants.

  7. "The Lakers job doesn't come up very often." Haven't the Lakers blew through 7 coaches in the last 11 years, or something like that? I guess if Hurley wants a quick guaranteed payout from LA, then maybe back to college to start over yet again, sure, but does his wife want that? Does she want to bounce in and out of LA and then end up at yet another college? She wasn't interested in going even as far as Kentucky just 2 months ago

  8. The Lakers or UConn not too bad…you've gone good for yourself Mr. Hurley. I wouldn't want to coach LeBron especially if they draft his boy. Pretty obvious LJ pushed the last 2 guys out. But the Lakers have rotated coaches like crazy over the past decade+ Even pre LJ. No one has lasted longer than 2 seasons since Phil Jackson left in 2011. Someone else mentioned here 7 different coaches. Despite the crazy NIL/transfer portal he does great at UConn. Coaching young athletes is still a pretty cool deal.

  9. Your job will always be available every two years.. I don’t know what PJ is talking about lol the turnaround is horrible. If they sign Danny, he will be gone in two years.

  10. Plus he’s the coach to ruin the Confidence of Danny at Seton Hall and he had to leave the team. This guy has no class whatsoever.

  11. Dan would slay if he goes or not. But, I think wrong timing and wrong place for Dan Hurley. If this was 3-5 years from now, or a Boston/New York team, he take a shot now. But NBA head coach jobs will be available to him later as he’s already already figured out the cheat code at UConn and dominating college basketball landscape and he’s only 51. , I think people want what they can’t have an NBA owners will seek him out down the road when timing is better all around for him and his family. Plus, he’s got a chance to do something that hasn’t been done since the late 60s with John wooden with 3-Peat.

  12. The fact that he will be going to meet the Lakers gives us a slight insight that he has been considering this intriguing offer.

  13. How could you not take the job
    100 million
Biggest brand in basketball and one of the biggest brands in the world and his brand will become iconic if it works out . If it doesn’t work out he goes back to any college he wants

However as a pure basketball job it’s awful right now- lebron is about to be done. AD isn’t someone you can rely on, the west is awesome so if he doesn’t get big free agents he’s fired in a few years

  14. I can’t even listen to this guy. His raspy voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard bro 😭

  15. He’s a typical east coast guy – cocky, brash, high strung. I’m not sure that works on the west coast. He’s a bring your lunch pail guy and he’s definitely more suited for a team in the northeast.

  16. I remember Andrew Gaze and Seton Hall playing Michigan for the natty like it was yesterday. Glen Rice went off. Glad to see Coach still pushing…💯
