Els prevails in a playoff | Round 3 highlights | American Family Insurance

In the final round of the 2024 American Family Insurance Championship, Ernie Els carded a 3-under 69 to finish at 12-under for the tournament before defeating Steve Stricker in a sudden-death playoff for his second win in a row and his fifth victory of his PGA TOUR Champions career.

started with a share of the lead at nine under par Ernie second into the par five second and this is as good as it gets and I thought when he hit that shot I thought look out Ernie is we’re nine under heading into today at the par five second Stricker pitching his third shot Steve so good at this setting up a birie opportunity and that would get Stricker to 10 under Stricker for this birdie at the par 38 and this gets Steve to 11 under par now has opened up a three shot lead contact has to be just a spot on he can’t can’t drop kick this drives in there low with in check oh my goodness that sizzled up the club face that was pretty well done that was not that easy of a shot no as you could see when that ball landed on The Fringe it just kicked forward this right here take a real clutch on this Championship Stricker goes four up with a birdie at 11 trying to go back to back Cameron Percy on the T at 17 we’ll check it out with track band technology sponsored by service now what a shot is it that was well done back up the hill for birdie at 17 look at this Cameron pours that in that gets him to nine under with one hold play yeah that is shocking no doubt he’s got an old set of irons in the bag he played with a new set the first two days shot some good scores but was not that comfortable so he put an old set back in the bag and that’s pretty nice shot should get a little bit better yeah’s got some slope on that right side I’d go ahead and Pitch it well we saw putt made from this back part of the green earlier today this was Billy Andre throwing it way out to the right letting gravity take over and boom for Billy Billy enjoyed this the adoring crowd has this put for birdie at 18 yeah what a Sunday for Stephen ases as he shoots a 5 underp par 67 that included seven birdies today coming off birdies at 14 and 15 yeah the short one for birdie and Mike Gard the PGA general manager it is really a pleasure to be here Ernie L’s t- shot at 13 with driver 300 to the bunker in front of the green 320 to the front of the green and that took a nice kick to the right just going to get through into the rough oh man that looked like it just wants to get it you maybe three or four steps on the green let it run back out comes out with some over spin oh you make it caught some hole short putts today the ball starts left off the blade well that was perfect nice little run here for Ernie Ells after not much going on left side of the Fairway opens up this whole location so great angle here for Ernie take advantage a nice t- shot little left of the flag ho high if it stays there and it does that’s not too bad yeah I thought this was one of the easier hold locations on this green this is for three in a row should go left at the end got to keep some speed up how about you Ernie El’s Hall of Famer three in a row and he’s now in a share of the lead at 11 under Shane bur playing his second shot that sounded good right on the button oh Sugar Shane Eagle at 18 oh my God I guess I guess it sounded good wow a Sugar Shane with the combo after the Eagle at 18 wow probably going to go down that right side which this was torched right over the tree get going oh it’s not even a bother that wow miles over those trees that’s deep yeah he got this one up in the air this time this Friday was a lot lower yeah that’s no problem yeah that a really good t- shot [Applause] oh he got it up in the air with a nice strike on a nice line slightly left oh man I mean he landed it exactly where he had to anything short it hits that knob going a little bit left trying to cut back wow it does another beautiful shot so Els will have that for [Applause] Eagle gave that a pretty good wrap look like it was pushed the whole way now Ernie El’s for eagle and and the outright lead pretty good look here he’s gotten two decent line reads hold it huh yeah he’s done that all day it seems like Johan yeah the ones that he’s missed he sure [Applause] has so Els will tap this in for birdie to get to 12 under Stricker in close for his birdie [Applause] 16 and head to 17 and a share of the lead with Ernie [Applause] Ells got in there pretty quick it’s got to go so that comes up short Ernie’s going to finish the par at 18 Hells 300 par 69 Stricker calmly rolls it in and for the second time in the history of the American Family Insurance Championship will have a playoff great angle from the left side of the Fairway he can play any shot he wants he can hold up against the right slope this is carrying deep too now that will be a very makeable putt right behind the [Applause] [Applause] hole he pushed it wa that is a shock and with that 2024 Hall of Famer Ernie El has won the American Family Insurance championship and he wins for the second week in a row and picks up win number five on the PGA tour champions [Applause]
