all right this is a question I’ve been wanting to ask you for a long time what does the phrase goat mean to you also a lot of these people like you know Conrad won his worlds Nate seon won his usdgc JM won his usdgc like they all won their events like older than I am now yeah you know like I’m 33 I’ve been watching old videos so I go right step here swing it to the pocket pump throw okay let’s see if we can do it yeah I think that worked yeah dude you’re on to something I think that’s it it’s kind of like a dance routine well yeah the courses are getting longer um I think we’ve really lost the touch of the game all right y welcome back to the channel welcome back to another practice show today we have pic Beth thank you for joining appreciate it uh this is this is practice around dad bod you’re a dad I’m not so so that’s worse for me but anyways normal practice round we’re going to play nine holes ask Paul some questions maybe get some good answers maybe get some just here so I don’t get fin answers we’re not depends on your mood did you eat a good breakfast this morning a couple eggs yeah okay that’s good enough to get some good answers from the guy so let’s jump right into it we’re on hole three here 400 ft how many times have you won this tournament do you know I don’t know maybe 2 to 10 yeah somewhere in there okay somewhere in there that’s how you throw it OB right off the gate that’s good right out the gate that’s not the Paul that I know that’s the warmup Paul that’s warmup Paul yeah that’s Wednesday morning Dad bod Paul yep dang it how about that I might need to turn the camera to see that one might need to turn it off oh there he is go there we go two off the first yeah welcome so Paul you’ve arguably had one of the best careers in disc golf what initially Drew you to the sport and what made you decide to pursue it professionally um initially so like my long story I guess long story short is my dad played disc golf like I’ve known about disc golf my a majority of my life I guess I should say like as far as I can remember my dad would take me and my brothers out to the course and we’ just ride our bikes and he’d play with his friends and uh that was like their laundry day they’d meet at the laundry mat him and his friends they do laundry and then they go play either Huntington Lamar El Dorado um down in SoCal so I picked it up myself playing it a lot in high school um so that’s really when I got into it kind of a competitive Outlet since I wasn’t playing baseball at the time and uh I don’t know I guess the competitive side drew me to it and and actually we had a we had a Junior League in the area so I was competing against kids my age which is really cool and uh yeah that’s really what drew me to it and once I found out I could play tournaments and then start winning money that was like I was a high school kid making money playing a sport while sport at the time a hobby yeah so I just was like I’m going to keep trying it and just got really good at it and started traveling the the country and then like the world and I mean how can I not want to do that I mean even if I played baseball it’s kind of a US sport you know it’s America’s America’s game but uh yeah this Tak me place i’ never never thought I’d be that’s sweet and that’s and obviously when you say that you were competitive I think that that’s a possible understate man you know it’s just it’s fun it’s a it’s a it’s a challenge where I was challenging myself more than more than other people practice is like you’re trying to better yourself and beat yourself at the same time yeah I mean I’ve spent weeks or months on the road with you before you’re not the most social person so discov kind of gave you an outlet to be unsocial but still be doing something right which is which is one thing that like I know kind of made you enjoy it you know as you’re able to be yourself and you didn’t have to be around others to get better and exactly if I’m just out here putting by myself like that’s looks like this guy’s working his butt off but really I just don’t want to be around people you know like man this guy’s a hard worker or he just really wants a break from everybody exactly right H thank you guys so much for joining few things really quick if you go to infinit disc.com to shop for your Drew Gibson needs your Finish Line disc needs or he gave it to me that’s baby that’s baby stuff yeah it’s first time actually like having something wait till they go to like daycare or something then you’re really going to be I hope we don’t have to send them to daycare that’s pretty good yeah that’s a little baby shot down the middle let me throw one more I’m trying to work on my uh routine I don’t have one right now okay well show it to us all right I’ve been watching old videos so I go right step here swing it to the pocket pump throw okay let’s see if we can do it yeah I think that worked yeah dude you’re on to something I think that’s it it’s kind of like a dance routine all right can you share defining moment or turning point in your career that cifically impacted your path and the disc golf yeah I mean I get I I’ll say three moments that popping oh here I’ll do four moments that pop into my head right away um I Was preparing for the Amor 2007 and I was just playing amateur tournaments in Southern California and it was the Silmar open at the time and like i’ been a pretty good amateur you know winning tournaments top 10 Etc but this one specifically was my final Am tournament before am worlds I won by like seven or nine I was just crushing the field and uh then I went on to am worlds like two weeks later or something took second in the three-way playoff with uh Greg Schwarz and Alan Wagner um so I took second in that or maybe it was Joseph Anderson I forget but anyways so that was like a turning point in my amateur career so I play Amor then I play my first pro tournament in rightwood California and I’m like just not a th raid yet but there’s some like 1035 raid players um and uh this guy Micah dorius was there Micah’s nasty Mah yeah he’s from San Diego and he was a by far like the favorite to win that event and I’m playing my first pro tournament ever and I come out and win the tournament oh like my first ever Pro tournament I win with someone like that in the field yeah Micah used for you guys that don’t know Micah like a Southern California Legend y Masters Cup lead card like every year super super good player and that’s back when Masters Cup was like one of the main tournament yeah one of the big ones yep so I win that one with him in the field and that kind of cemented my place in the Pro field there at uh in Southern California um but then like what really turned my career around was I was playing locally but then I was still playing baseball at the time so I started playing baseball After High School again and I uh told my coach like hey there’s this one tourament I want to play I’ve played every year it’s the world championships for disc golf and it was in um that time it was in Crown Point Indiana so it was 2010 okay year Eric mcab won the year Eric mcab won so I drove out there hadn’t played dis golf really I was just focusing focusing on baseball and I go out there and take 11th Place like not playing so I was like dude like if I cuz I was just training so hard for baseball I was like if I put this kind of dedication that I’m putting into baseball into disc golf like I could really do something with it so I spent all winter focusing on disc golf and uh doing doing that and then I went out and won Memorial right then and there you know first NT of the year and uh that was a big step in my career and then a couple months later I win here at the beaver State fling my second NT and then 2012 I won my first world so it was uh that was the biggest turning point in my career so I think that’s one two three and then Memorial was the fourth moment that was that was kind of you know really spectacular and then knowing Dave Greenwell is on the mic saying like this kid’s special he’s probably going to do something someday and just remembering those moments from 201 11 yeah it’s crazy 13 years ago yeah I actually what popped up on my Instagram 13 years ago was uh Paul ulber winning the Brent Hambrick memori Memorial at 22 years of age being the oldest NT winner at that moment the oldest or the youngest the oldest because it was me Sho strict like so in 2011 I was 20 he was 22 Shri was like 19 or 18 younger than the players winning nowadays minus genon right something like that sounds good so similar storyline right now as to 13 years ago how how good do you think Ganon is right now ganon’s really good he reminds me of Sho back in the day um but obviously a lot better putter a lot better especially from distance yeah like there was a year a season that that will claimed and obviously there wasn’t stats and I don’t know any better that he didn’t miss a putt in the circle for a whole season he has a weird putt like that that that could be true um but I will say putting is so much easier in the woods than it is out in the open the wind doesn’t affect it more and your depth perception is a little different like I think putting in the woods is easier even if you have trees in your way yeah I I think that you know the Ganon has all the skills and like reminds me a lot of you when you were in at your very best like obviously you’re not not in your Prim anymore but when you were winning 28 of 30 tournaments yeah but like you guys both had that thing where you could just make it from 90 ft you know sure and while putting too back then the baskets didn’t catch as well so you had to be you know your touch had to be so much better you had to be way more accurate in my opinion on where you hit the basket um what about when you lose your disc well I don’t think you ever went far enough right though you your turnover right you’re probably out here huh this hole’s pretty as long as you miss that big tree left or right yeah decide whatever way but definitely that’s the thing to miss what if you just hit it uh yeah it went right that’s fine also you just bought that hoodie this weekend yeah you see it there yep it’s fire actually don’t hate that all right this is a question I’ve been wanting to ask you for a long time mhm what does the phrase goat mean to you goat well I mean the little definition greatest of all time um like I mean that’s like a sick Accolade to like even be in the conversation of like obviously I’m still playing so you have to say it’s climo you know until my career is done and then we can have an argument about it or hopefully there is no argument about it by the time my career is done so you think as of this very moment walking down whole five Bieber State fling in 20124 Ken clo is the goat I mean I I want to catch him in Majors for sure I think once I pass him in major titles then I can significantly say that if you’re saying just career stats but if you’re saying everything outside of it like you know I think clo did a podcast where he explained it well it’s like what I’ve done with my career compared to what he’s done with his career like mine is you know a few levels above his but as far as statistics I’m still chasing him yeah for sure no I mean I think my my opinion of goat right when it comes to Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan or anything is not only what you did on the field or on the court or on the course but what you did to like make your sport better or cooler right like who made golf cool was Tiger Woods Tiger Woods made golf cool so to me that would mean that Tiger Woods is the is the goat yeah if you’re asking and I’m not saying that Ken Kimo obviously like you said you’re chasing him in a lot of accolades he had less Majors so he had less opportunity point he had less Majors yes but as far as if you’re going number of Majors played he still has me number yeah so yeah it’s the same thing like the LeBron points LeBron Jordan points thing yeah more games it’s like LeBron has a lot more games a lot more uh had AO line you know and it’s like you know he just it took him four more years to pass Jordan or whatever but it you know you have to look at the number of players we have now versus even when I was winning you know in 2012 the number of players then versus the number of players we have now or then when CL was playing is significantly larger yeah no talent pool is larger well and I think that my vote like I said if I I think obviously Bill Russ was not in the conversation for greatest of alltime basketball player and he has 11 championships y you know so I think it’s a lot about what somebody has to it’s yeah brings to the table and other things yeah changing the game what’ you say changing the game yeah I think that you change the game from a playing standpoint having both spin standpoint and just like the I mean I don’t think many of us are making as much money as we do if it wasn’t for you Paving that way mhm yeah we’d be getting 25 cents a disc and I just I mean I think that’s kind of where clima was at his life too like he had another career outside of disc golf you know so he’s like oh any money I’m making there is a bonus yeah 25 cents was great when you’re selling 10,000 disc a month probably that’s pretty consistent you just threw Two Shots within 10 ft of each other same disc that’s pretty good too I’ll take those um but no I mean like with my foundation and I feel like what disc golf’s really changed is like you mentioned a hobby earlier you know when when my first when my career kind of started but like I feel like we are a sport now we have athletes and there is train like no we’re not perfect like same with golf like there’s some golfers that are absolutely jacked and there’s some that look like they just entered a bowling league you know and that’s kind of you made fun of this as like Dad bods but like uh you know I’m weighing more than I want right now but I’m going to work my tail off I’ve been focused on getting my skills where I want them and then I’m like G to focus on this yeah well and again it’s not I mean we see you see body types winning tournaments you know he everyy Jenkins back in the day you know was the most in shaped dude on tour by a thousand and never won I mean Ezra ader hold you know none of us will ever look like him and I mean how many pro tour major wins does he have no and it’s just like I mean we we have friends that are Fighters it’s not the most ripped Jack guy that wins it’s the most skilled but it does help as for like a longevity and like staying in one piece is definitely a benefit of being and I mean none of us would hate looking like Ezra oh I would die to look like [Laughter] Ezra if I died I probably still wouldn’t look like Ezra actually yeah but yeah I was just curious about that question because I know that you’re I mean one thing people whatever they want to say about you I’ve known you for a long time travel with you went to different countries with you very very humble so I wanted to hear your actual take on like the the goat conversation from a standpoint and I like the standpoint that you’re stating of like hey I’m not done you know it’s hard to hard to vote for yourself when you know that there’s more in the tank and you’re striving for more and what also a lot of these people like you know Conrad won his worlds Nate sexon won his usdgc Jer won his usdc like they all won their events like older than I am now yeah you know like I’m 33 but they want to put me in the category of like Julie and seon and like those guys are like 36 to germs can play Masters like yeah yeah no I mean I I think that I mean you for no you’re you’re my favorite player like for the same reason I like Jordan I like LeBron just like you’ve changed the game like in a time where I was also playing it so it’s like if there’s someone I’ve earned your respect yeah like reaping benefits from your hard work work and you setting standards of how disc golf companies pay people and all that like you’re the guy that I look up to of like you know I get my paycheck and I’m like oh thanks Paul you know like and it’s like it’s I say that with honesty you know like you went out on the limb you took risks you switched companies you know # make moves you know like you did all of that and that’s something that I what’ you say took some risks yeah it’s like that’s something that I look up to yeah you know and it’s the same kind of on a much much smaller level I remember when I went bag people I mean I think even you text me like hey what the hell are you doing you know like but it’s worked out and I’ve like made it happen but I think that like you’ve done the same thing where you obviously were in a good spot with Ina you know you had everything rolling everything you needed everything you wanted and like from the MC Beth that I know you know especially knowing your story as well as I do you you know were happy with where you were with Ina you know you’re like oh hey I’ve made it much for than I thought I would but and you still took risks and decided to you know obviously Elevate the game to a level that I’m not even sure many of us even knew it could get to mhm well and so quickly yeah like it like I mean everything kind of just came together at once you know I switched to Discraft had the year of 2019 which is like probably one of the most underrated years of my career and then uh 2020 you know and everyone knows what happened that year you know Co everything was shut down and then dis golf just I shouldn’t say it hasn’t been the same like it grew an insane amount but I I think it really changed the pro side of disc golf because there were a lot of things that Pro disc golf wanted to do you know with ticket sales and finding other ways to get money in to events and Co kind of allowed that because you couldn’t have an you know a noxious amount of people at the events you had to limit it you know sometimes turnament we played Without fans yeah no I remember that it was a weird year because it was like we were out there doing our normal thing you know showing up for our te time making 50 Footers and it was like crickets you know it felt like a practice and everyone had on their mask and everyone you know it’s like then it was an argument of oh did you wear your you know it’s like oh you guys have to do this and it was like a weird year but overall great great uh couple years for disc golf you know like if there’s anything we could take positive out of that bad situation is is the fact that we ended up like having a better game and a better Sport and a better job because of it yeah and now it’s like we need to not scale back but not think that things are going to grow that fast again well we need another another Boom for example whe whether it’s you know cuz I mean be curious to get your take on this you know Brody and Co kind of happened at a similar time yeah you know and people didn’t know whether to who who to kind of I I I guess the word would be thankk you know CU I see a lot of things still oh Brody you know grew disc off so much or brought so many people and of course I mean eyes are people you know how many of those people are not related to co also you know maybe you know I I don’t know but it it’s definitely a those two things simultaneously happening uh I’d like to see you know know your take on like what I think it it was just a coincidence on the two things happening at the same time yeah you know but it kind of like stopped his career for a little bit in the sense of competing because of all our you know tournaments went away but it allowed him to work and build a brand and I don’t think he had any true disc golf fans until like year two probably he had a lot of fans that he brought in yeah you know which was I mean he had he has a ton um so I think I think he got his respect year two but he brought his fan base year one yeah like they were buying his stuff and you know hey buy the Zone buy this and that’s cool I mean it’s cool that there’s people able to open the door that wide for themselves to succeed in our sport you know you you go to anything else you know and you want to be a UFC fighter I mean yeah you’ve see that you see like someone like CM Punk like he didn’t really get manyu FC fans but he had a ton of wrestling fans yeah and it’s like you know you I think there’s something Brock Lesnar earned a lot of fans because of he was beating people up you know yeah I mean you beat people up in fighting people are going to like you yeah but they didn’t know until he actually did it jeez this hole with that OB there is not very pleasant I just go way left of the OB that that was a joke it’s nowhere near the basket um no I’m just trying to play it past the pin but you got to turn a little bit more than that that’s in the OB also these things get sweaty man if I make this you got to come film where it’s at where it’s at I think get the nose over enough nope got to get it over such a hard angle though that’s enough dang it not far enough that’s too hard you think 2015 MC Beth’s making that no you should come you should come see it all right this golf has evolved significantly over the years how have you seen the sport change since you started and what do you think the future holds for it we kind of talked about this on the tead but I’m curious on your take of like what needs to happen what the easiest easiest ones social media YouTube all that stuff it’s changed so much in that to where it’s it’s more entertainment value is just as important as your play as far as product like I think we have like a YouTuber in this field this week right is that me no what’s the banza whatever oh banza yeah yeah oops like I thought you were calling me the YouTuber no you got to get views man um no I like there’s some people that like all you know them through is YouTube and not even their game so you think it’s a lot about like the the YouTube and social media and just putting stuff out there yeah are you still recording yeah yeah yeah I think the social media YouTube the content side’s really changed um the level of play I don’t think it’s increased at the top top but I think there’s more players that are there that are playing really well um like you know like Ricky’s still up there I don’t think Ricky’s any better than he was but I think he’s still up there at that level um courses are getting long courses are getting ridiculously long and like not enjoyable like courses are not getting more enjoyable yeah that’s the truth well yeah the courses are getting longer um I think think we’ve really lost the touch of the game like mid-ranges yeah like I don’t even need a need for one yeah like I have three in my bag and I’m probably going to take just take up space yeah just so it’s not um like that’s non-existent in our game anymore uh Fairways are pretty gone that aren’t overstable so it’s like the courses are not challenging the players in a skill set that was like the hardest part in my opinion yeah someone was asking me the other day actually what I thought like the differences were between you and Ganon like game for Game yeah you know and I was saying that I thought that you excelled in the like flip up turnover shot like speed and angle with everything like putter like gon jump putts from 100t to 150 ft I remember you like throwing like soft little Nova bids and like making him and I play with again in two rounds last or yeah two rounds last week and he like was jump putting from that same distance and not saying he can’t throw the putter up shot but you know hey what’s the difference and I I just was like I think the difference is that like you were able to to throw gently at every single hole or every single spot whether was with a distance driver and the hole was 300 ft or it was with a Putter and the hole was you know 125 away I just feel like you had so much control that you never got in a spot forehand or backhand where you couldn’t just like finesse your way out of it yeah and I mean like like Eagle for example like he can throw one angle like he throws one angle and he just has the disc that do all like there’s two holes right here that you cannot do that at like you have to throw a turnover to start yeah like there’s no course where we throw a turnover to start heer fliping you have yeah so much you know and and I haven’t played with gon a whole lot to know that part like I think he rips over a lot but he needs them to fight out yeah he doesn’t throw this angle and have it have it Glide yeah yeah so no I mean yeah and every skill I mean even Ricky you know back in the day you know when you were he was a yeah he was a sprinkler system well but also I’m saying like he threw like Flex turnover backand and flex sidearm yes a lot of forehands to counteract that shot it wasn’t a lot of like I’m just going to use the word touch it was just like rip it over both forehand and both sidearm and just like see kind of where it went I Thinkin Calvin’s got it all though yeah Calvin’s pretty talented Calvin’s got it all we’re saying how good you are we’re talking about like what the game like how the game’s changed and how I talk about like you don’t have to hit angles really anymore you don’t have to have the control the speed control it’s like you just so heer start and then let it Flip or heer let it heer the whole time you don’t have to start anything on Annie and let it Flex out slowly and cuz they got rid of all the short holes yeah well and we’ve we’re I yeah I said the cours are just getting longer they’re just like not fun anymore we don’t have yeah just throw hard so I saying like the the players now like the skill I think like there’s no reason to carry mid-range anymore like what’s the point we don’t throw mid-ranges we don’t throw Fairways yeah you know if you’re lucky you do you throw a bad t- shot you have to P out the Fairway yeah you shank you’re like okay cool I get to throw my my midrange now but yeah Calvin’s got Calvin’s got it all see it you see it like I didn’t do my routine look what happens I was too busy talking throwing in the parking lot parking lot it’s like you’re at Day LA yeah mini de what are the odds you’re actually trying to hit that Gap there that one that’s where I’m trying to go you just trying to hid it way out there yeah I’m trying to go through that Gap and the straighter it pushes the best but got I’m literally trying to just like get that putt to the left that is not what I’m trying to do either I don’t really see a better option on this hole it’s grown in so much well the fact that we’re throwing on teads that are covered in Moss is pretty cool you don’t like moss teads no hey guys June 7th Cactus Rock opens if you want to go pretty sure check the Instagram yeah support uh and Dylan’s other project or you yeah or if you want to go play a sick course yeah that too if you want to go play a sick Place go there super Paul You’ve Won 17 major championships which one’s your favorite should I just say Tom Brady’s an is the next one um favorite though I know my favorite of yours well okay so like oh let me think about it let’s see how would I Define my favorite one I don’t know if I have a favorite like there’s some that are memorable more so than others is it is it recording from here yeah you’re good like I think my my favorite ones are the ones that have like the moments and memories to them like I don’t remember anything from the 13 worlds you know at Crown Point yeah I just had a weird haircut that’s all I remember that’s all I remember from that one uh like the usdgc recently to beat Kyle in the playoff and the this put on 17 did the put on 17 at Worlds like I remember those moments um the first worlds is obviously you know breaking the ice that’s always something cuz you know you can do it but 2015 was pretty sick 2015 worlds that was Pittsburgh yeah yeah that was like a runaway and that one oh so like that was a runaway but I was back like nine Strokes after two rounds I remember that and then I just cuz that we had just gotten back from Europe yeah and I just like cor and I had a broken back you know so like was it spinal was it spinal yeah it’s spinal yeah but yeah I broke my so I broke a vertebrae at European open so my favorite moment not that you care about my favorite moment but was you winning 2014 worlds in that playoff against Ricky Rick one here because to me for some reason something about that like you went three in a row there and I think that that was like the start of us knowing like like I think that was like where like the the you know climate watch started to come in for me like I was like okay there’s three like obviously you won a fourth in a row but like three I’m like okay like this is like okay and and that’s another one of those moments where like you were down you know you you know the stat I’m sure I was down yeah I was down I just took a seven and I was like seven down 24 holes to go and I bured like 22 of the final 24 with the playoff or something so that’s what I’m saying so but that to me was like the moment where again not that my opinion matters but where I was like okay like Paul can Paul can go on a run like you had came back cuz 201 that was the year you had won every tournament you know I was traveling with you you won you know three majors in a row obviously you won all five but like you won walk and look for my at the same time but you you know you won those events and it was like at that point it’s like we almost expected you to to be doing those things I think when you won that third world championship and the way you did it you know like you said birding 22 last 24 holes yeah something something wild like that cuz I got like a really cool trophy from actually uh um Braden um remember Braden yeah he gave me one when I won Vegas yeah like a custom made trophy from Zimbabwe and he’s like dude if you come back and win this thing I’ll get you a custom PE dude it’s like 2 and 1/2 ft tall Solid Rock it’s insane yeah and it’s probably worth like a couple thousand do all right let’s find your disc bye that was a good rip e that one felt decent all right mental toughness is crucial in any sport how do you stay focused and manage pressure sometimes from start to finish uh Focus it’s hard focusing is hard definitely hard yeah some kids need like drugs to focus I’m sure um dud it’s such a like it’s such a weird skill because I know like I would do random little things throughout the day like I’d go to the grocery store and like this was back before self checkout was a thing but you’d like everyone would always pick the fastest mind like being a rush and I was like you know I’m going to take the longest one today so I can work on being patient and not get frustrated do that yeah like just small random little things like cuz you know you might have a backup you might have to think you’re you know have weird thoughts that might take you out of being focus and random little things yeah I would try that I think helped in some way like I did decent at disl for a bit so like you know or like you’re driving you might get in traffic and people might road rage but it’s like shoot I got to be calm because you know what if I’m on the 17th hole and some fan or camera or something stops play and you have to do this and do that like yeah I mean one of the things that I’ve always looked up to you for is your like resilience like I feel like like those tournaments we were just talking about you know you’re down by nine you’re down by seven it’s like most people would think well I’m done yeah you know I’ve heard plenty of people that you know been on lead card whatever and they throw out of bounds make it all boogy like well there’s my tournament you know it’s like a common thing to say and I feel like you use that less as oh there went my tournament and more is like okay I’m going to like do something incredible now yeah and it’s like like let’s say you have let’s say you have a seven stroke lead on me and we got nine holes left and you make one mistake and I get two strokes on you yeah you know it goes from but I don’t forget what I said but seven to five Strokes you know and then I get another stroke cuz you just get a par and now it’s four strokes and you can have one bad hole and all of a sudden it’s one stroke or like just that constant pressure of like someone always pushing and not like leaving and that Gap just increase like you’ll see if you go look at tournaments or like maybe live cover sometimes I’ll like count on my fingers cuz I’m having a countdown of like Strokes I’m coming back and just like all right like that’s four more like three more like I’ll have stuff in my head of what I need to keep doing um to keep chasing but it’s always a countdown going on well I think that especially those years when you were full-time like beast mode it was we knew you were coming no matter where you were if you were in the lead we knew you were going to you know maintain it or even shoot better and if you weren’t you know we knew we were MC Beth was on the way mhm you know and I think that that’s a a scary I don’t know if the right word is thought but as like a competitor yeah you know being ahead of somebody and knowing that like it’s not over until that final putt goes in is a pretty scary I mean it’s like Tiger Woods right like yeah I that was a big difference between Ricky and I when we were playing a lot is like he would win by so many yeah like he would always just run away you know but like if I was close it was always like that pressure of matter who was in front of me I’m like I’m going to push on him press on him yeah and you know more than more than likely I’d catch him and and beat him so I I feel like that was a big difference of our our careers you know well and I think that you have that like can you zoom on that booger in your left nostril too yeah cool you got it uh no I think that like I was tell people when you walk on the p in green even today MH people like we know like I I know when you’re out there cuz people start to watch people start to come and just like you have that let’s like they said the same about Tiger Woods you know like he just has this like aura about him and I feel the same way about you especially like when we were in Europe you know you and I traveled there together and it was like I just feel like people knew where you were if that makes sense yeah like they were they were watching yeah like I just feel like the players know oh there’s Paul and I feel like the fans know hey there’s Paul like yeah like even if I’m five players behind them they’re looking at me versus the other four yeah yeah they know like oh where’s MC Beth like and now maybe that’s you know changed more over the last however long but like I haven’t gotten in that position is the issue but I just I just feel like even now you step on the practice putting green and I just feel like everyone’s like well here here he is like and I remember that that year you got last place at uscdc you know you you I was pulling into I’m pretty sure that year I was on lead card and I was pulling into the parking lot there was a gallery and you you were on like 16 and there was a huge Gallery watching you play MH and I was like who is that like I was like oh what’s going on over there and then I’m watching you walk down the Fairway on 16 and I’m like M this guy cheed off 4 hours ago and he has the lead card Gallery it was kind of unbelievable honestly no that’s really important to get left on this hole yeah you need to like be over this tree in the center is so big now yeah it’s like this size I mean it’s literally going to be one of these in the Fairway one day what’ you say it’s going to be one of these in the center of the Fairway one day right now we got a little baby version but that’s baby pee dude it’s going to be one of these that’s pretty good sometimes I can putt when I can putt I play well get up what was that call the cops he got robbed Oh shoot no that’s backhand just a I am missing a disc what are you missing my vulture from where not good enough well two your second up shot on we’ll go grab I have two of them but it’ll probably come back I thought my bag was a disc light but I couldn’t think of what disc it was means you don’t need it it’s cuz I have two oh that’s in the river hit that tree hopefully you brought your kayak there chief I’m really good at talking and shanking at the same time all right so you obviously been involved you have the palic Beth line of discs and designing disc what goes into that for a player like you um so when we started I used to just like draw like disc wings and stuff like that and uh like what I think would be like aerodynamic what’s been done what hasn’t been done what I think could be Chang blah blah blah blah um and then kind of like because I went to school like my grandfather is an architect so when I was in school we used a lot of AutoCAD which is very similar program to what they use now for dis design um so I kind of like know how all that stuff works um and what was actually really cool in school is we had a wind tunnel in my classroom so you had like the smoke and whatnot really cool anyways so I kind of have an idea of how that works so uh when we first started doing the disc we kind of went that route and now now that I’m on the road because with Co had a lot more time to do that stuff um now we kind of go off some molds that we’ve designed and kind of start to tweak them uh uh but yeah it’s it’s kind of before it’ be like multiple we’d make multiple molds and we’ tweak them but now it’s kind of like we’re one and done with a lot of them you got it like down to a science now yeah so are when you’re designing these discs are are you only having Paul MC Beth in mind are you trying to I mean obviously like the so excuse my the ini Kong is what I like remember it as yeah turned into Zeus right yep okay but that obviously is like a not that you don’t use it but that’s a pretty like beginner friendly distance driver I would say I would say it’s actually more advanced um I want to use it more but I don’t think I’ve had the right run for me but yeah I guess it is more on the beginner side like like I think a lot of f players love that disc like I remember when they first came out I think you sent me some and I I remember thinking like it goes really far and it’s a good like distance shev but it’s not really like 600t distance oh no uh you know kind of resistant if that makes sense yeah like I like I mean you’re probably going to choose a destroyer cuz you got 95 different to choose from versus a Zeus which you know is one mold and coming out not as often so it makes sense on like a touring Pro yeah but people that are buying them like a Zeus is probably a better option I think that’s we don’t realize a Halo Destroyer that is good for me and other players isn’t good for like a normal beginner dis golfer no no it it might look super cool but you’re not going to be able to throw it but like the CR Kratos for example like we’ve talked about having a beaded putter for a long time um since the beginning you know when we came out the Luna but the time wasn’t right and then finally you know they had some time and they put together the the Kratos you know they kind of cut a bead into the mold versus you know slapping one on there kind of like a focus or a challenger kind of has one on there but uh you know they just kind of did something creative and I think it’s worked out great I don’t have one personally in my bag but it’s very similar to a Luna you know it’s a touch more overstable but it’s not designed to be a overstable putter like a you know like a zone is or something like that what about the Zone OS The Zone that’s that thing’s just so overstable like it’s I don’t think I’d ever have a use for it yeah I mean I don’t even feel hard enough to use that disc it’s just not maybe it’s cuz my hands are too small it’s not even that like that it’s like that’s the issue with the disc is that good if you had big hands it would be gosh little hand problems crap [Applause] man get in the basket oh we’re we’re shredding this hole we got to throw another one what happening I don’t know why I tried to start running up from where the camera is that makes no sense this a fairly short 390 though right whatever call oh yeah it’s you just kind of get it up there it’ll be why am I going so wide one more let’s try this all right now if I actually threw that it’d be in the circle now all right so disc sponsorships endorsements new companies coming into the sport you’ve kind of led the way with that for the last decade or so what do you think is coming like and how do you feel you’ve impacted the sport with the offers that you’ve gotten um like obviously the biggest sponsorships in dis golf or dis golf companies right now um but I think well two things so I think a lot of players don’t realize the privilege we have of sponsorships like that means a business wants to put their name behind us and people think it’s a a right when you play Disc Golf like you deserve to be you know sponsored by Discraft you deserve like Inova should have to pay you blah blah blah blah whatever but it’s not like that’s that’s a that’s a privilege we have to have a sponsorship um so with that said their business is at the end of the day it’s up here by the basket oh but yeah at the end of the day they businesses like their job is to sell disc or sell whatever you know whether it’s watches or hats or whatever like their job is to sell their product and the reason they’re sponsoring people is because they think that person is going to sell more product than they’re paying them like that and they’re going to bring more business to their company so until we have that in our sport where you know the athletes are bringing in more attention than the company’s willing to spend we won’t we won’t have big sponsorship you know like what is someone going to sponsor me with right now outside of disc golf well did did chess.com reach out to you personally correct or no so that’s like YouTube sponsorships like originally it was like ad sponsorships and uh they are like the two people are like disc golfers you know they are they love disc golf that’s their passion and they sponsor that event um they didn’t pay me anything I didn’t get any money from it they sponsored a tournament which they felt was going to help chess.com um but yes I’ve had like on my YouTube and things like that ads because they see views as as money but as far as a player like as a competitive like putting chess.com on my back or ag1 that hasn’t attracted them yet so I don’t know you know I think what something like Ganon or a or I think AB right now is probably the biggest probably probably the most potential right now as who do you think that he he would attra the most like what kind of brand you think would be good for ab uh he’ll probably do some kind of modeling stuff like honestly like he’s like 64 65 good-looking kid someone like that’s probably going to want him on there like he’s going to sell clothes he’s going to sell that he’s a he’s a College Dropout you know here we go I call him that until he finishes get off it there we go up what’s up all right Paul disc golf is growing globally what advice would you give to aspiring disc golf or some countries where the sport is still developing um I mean it’s it’s so like with my foundation for for example like we’ve put some courses in some in um how do you word it where disc golf is really expensive for them you know okay disl for us it’s like a lower end sport you know as far as cost of disc like I mean my bag if you were just to put a retail price on it it’s probably still $600 you know that’s okay well I’ll buy your Luna your Luna for 600 bucks then no no no I’m saying just if you’re just like no stance or no nothing on them you know that’s kind of probably where it’s sitting at but you know you take one of these discs down to Mexico and this could be 40 this could be almost a week’s wage for some people one disc yeah and you know Columbia and some of these courses so it’s like it’s not a cheap sport for them um so it is hard to grow so I hope like countries start to almost manufacture their own disc and you know once they start to get sponsored they start throwing these you know you sign the best player from Columbia you sign the best player from Argentina or whatever like they start throwing these they’re going to be so much better you know like equipment is going to be pivotal for their career yeah um so I don’t know I think it’s I think it’s I think it can grow somewhere close to like I don’t think it’s ever going to get to where soccer is because soccer you just need one ball and a field it’s a very very cheap Sport and that’s why it’s the biggest sport in the world but disc golf can be that accessible you know so places have land that aren’t major cities you know like I went to London two years ago they have like no green space they do have a couple courses but like so hard but some of these countries have so much green space that they can discover dis Golf and they could play the trees they could do whatever but uh I just think we have to get dis golf to these places so with your with your foundation how many obviously you’ve already impacted a bunch of people obviously very positively how do you continue to to push the envelope and give those people access to obviously not just a course but you know when you got when you go to the Columbia and you make a course do you do you leave a th000 disc there how do you kind of help them make it more accessible versus just like building something that then they have to spend their weeks wage to yeah so like with our foundation with the foundation it’s like we have to find places that are going to be sustainable we don’t want to just throw a course there and hope it does well you know we want it to be sustainable so we’ll continue to get donated disc like people that donate disc is always great financially you know if people are donating money that’s great because we can use that to buy disc we can use that so how can someone donate disc to your foundation I would say at right now email it email um whatever emails on there whether it’s Zack at pal pal Foundation Destin pal Foundation there’s a couple um but then they might give an address I don’t know our exact address um but yeah then we’ll have people that are going on these trips whether it’s to the initial project or whether it’s to check up on them later they will bring suitcases of disc and leave them there with the with the course cuz we can’t sell them we’re not going to sell them obviously but like that’s when you get in trouble with customs and crap yeah know but that’s what I’m asking like if you you’re like Hey we’re building a course in this XYZ place and you’re like hey cool we’re going to yeah we’re going to build you the course and we’re going to leave you 500 disc to distribute to people who are interested so for example how it works right now um if like the Mexico project we’ll just go with the first one we went down there we had the the baskets donated by Dynamic disc and they donated a bunch of discs okay um so they donated a bunch of discs and we left those there and we let them do whatever they want you know they didn’t have enough players to give them all out so what they did is they kept some for prizes for when they start running their leagues and things like that oh sweet um with the kids and you know that way they had prizes to give away uh and then a lot of disc they kept to sell to like pay to keep their place clean pay to do their teap pads pay to do that so they were able to you know use that as maintenance money as well um well that’s sweet I mean you guys you guys are obviously doing a really good job with not only growing the sport but going back and making sure that it’s maintained and making sure that people are getting discs and you know you’re doing a good job of being a good Steward of the game and that’s why you’re the goat well thank you but yeah we we we want want to make sure we do have do a whole checklist cuz we would hate to install course and then get uninstalled yeah and you know the next project coming up is New York City oh really I’m flying out to New York City next week for the grand opening of that one which of course is installed but I mean to have one in between Brooklyn and Queens is insane you know it’s been something this golf’s been in the country for since the 7s and we don’t have any courses in New York City yeah that’s insane well good job on that that’s a good achievement yeah that was a that’s the biggest city we’ve been in so far best birdie of my life thank you this hole is fun so you’re kind of just playing it for a 80 footer yeah I’m just trying to like do that and then lay it up and then tap it in and go to the next hole that’s what I’m trying to do throw it short left you’re going for a bogey yeah I don’t know why I didn’t even turn it I’m going toss one more yeah slip right out of your hand all right Paul looking ahead what are your goals and aspirations for the next phase of your career both on and off the course um right now I just want to go out and win tournaments like that’s my goal is I want to get that first one you know cuz I haven’t won since PCS last year and then I got hurt the next tournament so I want to come back win tournament win another tournament win another one just tournament that’s what I want to do right now uh like I have stuff in place you know obviously I have a family I have a wife I have a kid baby P yep um like that’s a big part of my life but I want to win tournaments so he can see me win like that’s what I want to do I want to like win a tournament like 2019 Master’s tiger yeah but his kids were older but yes I want to do that as long as they allow me to who’s they Hannah and Pablo okay well yeah I think that they’ll they’ll like you winning too yeah um but yeah I just I want to do that but obviously I want to you know have a nice house not a Mansion Just a nice house that I can go spend time with my family when I want train when I want play when I want I I’ve always in my mind had the vision and goal to be able to retire I want to have the opportunity to retire when I’m 40 doesn’t mean I’m going to I just have always wanted to have that opportunity if I wanted it’s always been a goal of mine how would you feel about the opportunity to find your disc right now well so I saw it it didn’t look that bad I just need to get the right distance now it didn’t like it’s between you and I in here but I might have walked past where it is and it’s green yeah but it’s like it’s it’s not a blend in green thankfully so it must be just shy of where my bag is are we looking for the first one or the second one the second one oh the first one first one’s out there I’m pretty sure the first one I thought like hit pretty hard or the second one I thought hit pretty hard no it did but the first one I think got to the edge if I recall I’m not I’m not 35 though um yeah but like for my career too I’d love to like get into the agent side of stuff and like help players get money I they think that I think that’s like a fun second career uh in the sport because financially like disc golf is hard you know it is I mean I will say like I have a great contract like I’m thankful for my contract but they take literally half of it due to taxes like yeah but also you because we’re independent contractors you earned your yeah yeah I’ve earned it sure you know like like being thankful is obviously great and like but like you you earned every single scent of what you’re yes that is a that’s a great way to look at it like it’s not uh but it is not no one gave you a gift no but it’s not as much as people think because you know if my career let’s say my career ends at the end of my my contract yes I made 10 million 10 years which realistically is a couple million like that has to extend my whole life yeah if I don’t have another career you know like obviously I can go work and stuff but like I’m milking that big money and I don’t have any job expertise in whatever you know like if I work in dis golf sure I might but if I don’t work in disc golf I’m kind of starting down here oh you weren’t even in frame you were so low you know so like I have to like I have to make that work you know and and you know you can invest the money but Investments aren’t always positive like they don’t always work out you can lose all your money yeah the stock markets cost me a lot of money so yeah so you know I want I want the opportunity to retire but I also don’t think I’ll just do nothing well some people already think you’re doing nothing cuz you just play disc go for a living and that you’re so lucky I mean I could have worse jobs that’s what people comment on my Instagram you’re just so lucky it’s like yeah I’m so lucky to live in someone’s driveway every week in my RV yeah I mean yes you’re take you’re taking the ex like they could take the same risk as you but they didn’t they chose a different career path but thank you guys so much for joining as always if you made it this far in the video we greatly appreciate your time your energy and hopefully you gain something from this hopefully you learned this was the most abrupt ending to a video I’ve ever had I thought we had a couple more no we’re done all right we’re done but uh but again thank you so much to Paul for his time thank you for all you do for our sport um I know that I’m not the only player that appreciates your uh your big brain that you have and hopefully we find your disc over there on hold too do you have anything for the people no thanks for watching thanks Drew for having me um thanks for bringing great questions that aren’t asked too often so I appreciate that and then also this is you’re watching this now Friday the day B State flinging starts pause a disc dropping yep I have a collab disc dropping well let’s see there is definitely a video dropping about the disc which I hope the disc drops Friday okay so hopefully the disc comes out Friday make sure to pay attention to follow socials YouTube all that stuff it’s going to all be linked down below thank you so much for watching we’ll see you in the next one

  1. Yea now days its all about distance which singles out a certain group of people. Majority of individuals with a wide age gap cannot throw far as the big bombers BUT what’s missing is that the media is really missing out on the ACTUAL talent of throwing the disc like it is supposed to fly. I am not young anymore like tour players these days BUT I wish more courses for the tour would be more technical with man made or natural shapes instead of ob lines in the open. OB lines to me are like ooooops sorry good throw but you are out…which makes everyone feel like wtf for an awesome throw. You should not punish someone for a phenomenal throw with a random line especially in the open 🤦‍♂️. Anyway what do I know. Realistically in the woods or a technical shape forming course…that is what makes a great player throwing “the” disc for what it is meant for and what an individual is actually skilled at…..not for just distance cause distance immediately eliminates alot of potential great players that no one knows about. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ what do I know, just saying in my opinion.

  2. Drew, this format is very unique. Like a podcast while throwing discs.. I can put it on in the background and enjoy it once, then later go back and watch your throws.. kinda cool.

  3. I've only ever bought and thrown Innova, but one of the best things about disc golf is the camaraderie and support for each other and from each other. I've learned more from Paul than any other player, just watching how he plays, how he carries himself, and when he speaks, we listen. Keys that really unlocked my game, and are still helping improve.

  4. I normally don’t watch disc golf video that has too much chatting instead of throwing, but this is an exemption. One of the best videos ever that I’ve watch and great to learn more about our favorite players’ personalities/character and disc golf thru the eyes of the G.O.A.T.

  5. Idk why but hearing you say Paul not in his prime anymore kinda hurt me 😞 he’s still got it ! I know he got one more worlds in him

  6. Lets be clear about Bron and MJ, regardless who your goat is, Bron reached 32,543 pts on just 23,478 attempts, while Jordan's carreer total points was 32,292 on 24,537 attempts. No matter if Bron played longer, that doesn't mean anything, and yeah Bron made more threes but his 3pt percentage is better than Jordan and Jordan has always played in the NBA with a 3pt line. Bron passed him with less attempts.
