Sahith Theegala on the inevitability of him winning a major with Chris McKee at the Memorial

how challenging is it to kind of stay focused on this week as opposed to you know every guy we hear talking about next week Pinehurst and so so challenges just kind of staying focused on the memorial yeah it’s it’s funny because I’m you know maybe I haven’t been out here enough and played enough Majors or or big events to I I this feels like a major to me you know this feels like a really important event it’s one that I circle on the calendar it’s one of my favorite tracks of all time so and and I just know it’s going to be really hard um so I look at it more of a a great tuneup for next week and a great test of golf but you’re still playing Jack’s event and you’re playing for a ton of FedEx points and Legacy and money so it’s you know it’s still a huge event so um I think a lot of guys I think before this week we probably focus more on the middle and how to Peak for the US Open but this is still a really important week and and I bet most people you ask will say the same thing they’re locked in this week and they’re going to take their prep how they usually take it for next week and then you know you’re one of those guys a lot of people say you know you’re you’re close do you have that feeling in your mind that it’s not a matter of if but when you get that major you know it’s really tough because I I thought the same thing about getting on the tour is it was an if to me not a when and and the same thing about winning on tours an if not a win and I feel that same way about my next win to be honest and and major championship or not regardless I I don’t really look to that um am I trying to win absolutely and when I’m when I’m in position um I’m trying to win um there’s not like oh I’m going to you know hit my shot coming down the stretch and no it’s like I’m looking at the leaderboard and I want to give myself a shot to win so um but but the rest of the thing is is just a process thing and and I’m shown signs for sure um you know big knock that that myself and my team like and a lot of the media and and stuff makes it you know made a big deal by my my poor driving and how it’s going to be tough to contend majors and and I agreed I agreed with that so uh I’ve been working hard on on every part of my game but especially my driving is really coming along um and I think I’m driving it as well as I ever have so and that’s a big reason why I was in contention at PGA I just drove the ball really well and and uh yeah I feel like I have the tools to get it done it’s just a matter of putting it together it’s just a matter of putting it together and and peing at the right time cuz that’s really what the majors are about um you just got to find a way to have one of the best weeks of your year during the biggest tournaments and and that’s a skill that it’s it’s tough to have it’s tough to have those guys those guys have it but it’s it’s tough to have
