right hello everybody and welcome back to the Matt frer golf podcast I’m Matt fryer your host and I’m joined here with Mr Tom Fen how are we sir I’m good M that’s a lovely top you’ve got on today very very Jazzy isn’t it suit you that a good color I’m branching out from just black and gray black gray and navy blue you love nav love I look good in navy blue I shouldn’t say that I think I’ve had navy blue on the first two podcast so people will call me out for just wearing navy blue as well yeah I did realize yours is Jazzy did you go the 100 50 150th open per chance uh yeah that’s where that’s from shall I turn this way so people can see the logo yeah okay now they know that you are in fact a Barry bag tag I realized watching uh the last podcast episode over that I was navy blue cup navy blue iPad case and navy blue polo top so I thought you know what I’m going to change it up and get the the green stripes out today you you are so out there it’s incredible um we have a guest today Tom you weren’t here when we filmed this you were off gallivanting having fun which is just totally unheard of in this uh this employment situation but very good we’ve got Mr Andy Carter coming on very shortly but before we get to him we’ll have our uh our little catch up that we do we get to uh see what’s been going on in each other’s lives and uh what’s been going on in the golfing World outside of the content cave have you uh have you played at all no well I say no as we actually record as this has gone live now in people’s ears and eyes I will be in irland playing golf socially ah you mentioned that trip last uh last week so are you currently 200 under par after day one goes out I’m six over and I’ve had 12 Guinness 12 over on the Guinness count yeah and I’m going to be about 14 over I think day two and then 20 more Guinness so Guinness Morgan us than golf shots I I think the the order of play is actually that it’s not a gol I’ve build it as a golfing trip love I’ve got to go away playing golf what I told Leon yeah I’ve said I’ve got to go away playing golf it is work but realistically I’m going drinking and there’s some golf sprinkled there golf involved that’s how every every social golf trip should be that yeah it’s it’s a yearly trip that we do with um some good friends of mine I’m really looking forward to it I’m playing I think and I’m going to ask your question in a moment I think this golf course could actually be one of my favorite golf courses I’m playing the Island Club which if people don’t know where or what the Island Club is it’s got a really cool story actually um it’s in Malahide which is just east of Dublin about 15 minutes in a taxi where to where we stay in Port mank and then it’s on the bay and our hotel I reckon you could hit driver and have a 20 20 30 yard pitch across to the one of the t’s but you actually can’t get to the golf course that way the te is only 170 yards from your bedroom 180 um you’ve got to drive all the way around but it’s on this peninsula okay and it is it is it’s tough and it it is incredible though they’ve wanted to host the Irish open there I believe quite a few times but because of how it is situated on the bay there’s only one road that you can get into it and it’s like we we actually passed a coach um as we were going down last year I think they had like dropped off a load of Americans who were playing in front of us and even just getting like a we had a like a Mercedes van taking us down and getting a coach and a van down there was that’s the difficulty trying to a decent sized event isn’t it the logistics are often an absolute nightmare have you been to the open or to the Irish open when it’s in Port rush or Port Stewart around that area yeah like obviously they built all the train station didn’t they for Port rush and redid it and it was and it was still yeah it was still like you could there was a lot of people crammed in yeah you completely take over the uh the little village there don’t you around the S of Cor in Triangle everything’s just rammed it definitely can’t hold that capacity of people but you they’ve made the they’ve made the place accessible I can’t wait for that open is next year that is it uh yeah I think so yeah um that’ll be a great open back there again so yeah I’ll be I’ll be over in irand playing some golf and I’m I’m very much looking forward to playing the Island Club I think I can’t and forgive me for if I get the pronunciation wrong coris cor coril cor Bliss or something I’ll have to Google it that’s the name of the club that’s the second course we’re playing as well it’s like next to the Island Club it’s a it’s a pay and play one I would say I’ve not heard of it but I don’t think I would have heard of that word that you’ve just said yeah so find out how you say it come back to us yeah I’ll uh just leave us a comment down below um on how we do so you can read it wrong again so I can read it wrong yeah and then pronounce it even worse next time but yeah I’m playing there we need like a Google translate you know and it’s sort of cor spells it out for you and then Siri tells you what it is nether of those we’re playing there as well which is going to be great I’m looking forward to it so a little bit of social Golf and then we’re actually off a come back for a couple of days and then off up to the Dukes very good for and that’s when Dad’s going with you isn’t it I say dad like he’s my dad dad dad can I come and play golf Adrian FR F’s going he’s coming up yeah he’s two days can’t remember um yeah we’re up there filming some stuff with him doing some other courses as well that’s when he’s taking my seat so the podcast will get better for an episode yes um and a few people have sent questions in which I’ve got to for you to take with you any more questions for Adrien then uh again comment send them in Via Instagram or the comments below yeah so yeah it’s going to be a fun fun a fun few weeks in June for us and then uh yeah that’s it really but we’re going to head now after we answer this question to Mr and Carter but three courses in Ireland mhm played or not played what are the three that you’ve got to tick off in Ireland uh okay let’s go with what I need to take off straight away I need to take off Royal County Down yes on the list I need to do it um I thought I had the chance a couple of years ago and it kind of got Stripped Away last minute which I was devastated about um so I’ll just leave that top of the list I imagine it will be number one when I do it yeah so I’ll just leave it at number one now where it belongs yeah um so in number two I’m going to put uh old head have you not played old head no I have played old head you have so sorry number two in terms of I have played this one um old head yeah loved it yeah amazing as a golf course it is unbelievable scene scenery that you get and the holes that you play there’s a couple of sort of a Tob holes as I call them in the Middle where you’ve got to get from seven and eight Coast to Coast which is four and five yeah yeah um but some unbelievable holes on that golf course yeah um it is incredible is it you played there a few times I think yeah yeah yeah yeah three maybe four is that up there for you or can you top that golf course so now three there’s so many I want to play very greedy I would like like Bal bunion got to go and play there yeah I need to do that West Coast yeah I’ve got a m by the way um that’s a lie firstly oh you’re there i’ got at least one I’m your employer let’s get this right uh Le if you want watching I might just send you the link to this time stamp he’s currently building a house cuz he’s moved over there with his M and kid about two years ago so they’re building their house in limr oh that’s the dream is it father-in-law’s a member at dunb oh and we can just go and stay in the spare room I think and do a this is going to be one of those social trips with the Guinness by the way it’s not podcast the spare room leis we appreciate it it’s not going to be a um filming trip I’m not allowing that it’s gonna be one of those Guinness trips with sorry Lanna work trip it’s going to be one of those Guinness trips with golf because we can go and play a lot of courses sort of down in that Southwest area yeah yeah which you need to go and do so back to Bal bunion Bal bunions I think up there is number one countyd down and Port Rush MH two and three you’ve done County down no Oh I thought you did no no I’ve only I’ve not played loads in Ireland so I’ve done Port manik uh which is that is classic that is proper good MH Island Club really good um I have done the other part manik can’t remember the name of it now the Jameson’s one I’ve not been around no um it’s they’re all Stones throw away B LIF and way cuz that was going to be my number three so then I did kin saale yeah played old head played foto played kinale yeah and played CK and that’s it for me and I okay so lot down down the bottom yeah so I need to so count it down mhm Port Rush y even Port Stewart yeah Port rush comes before yeah yeah yeah I really want to play Port Rush that’ be a good little strip to do there what was the one that I saw the other day that looked incredible it’s totally gone from me uh I can’t remember gone gone come back to me when you somewhere North Northwest find the name by the time we get to section two after we’ve listened to Andy Carter cuz I want to know no so if we’re up in the Northwest yeah so we’re not sitting on the same Coast as Port Russian Port Stewart no we’re a little bit around so you go around you drive past Castle Rock you go into Castle Rock’s okay I played there it was it’s fine yeah um fine but it’s it’s one of those golf courses that sits next to Port Russian Port Stewart so and Bal liin is about 45 minutes Around The Bay so and that’s that’s a great Golf Course they’ve got two there yeah um know where I do want to play as well just got to play a d Mana a d Mana needs to be played definitely so we’re we’re lucky enough in generally in the industry to get a PGA courtesy rate and that either means we get to play if we’re lucky for threee mhm or we get to go and play in the Chargers a cheaper rate won’t they yeah a d Mana I spoke to them when I was doing an island trip a couple coup years ago uh any PGA courtesy rates uh yeah you can have it for £350 that’s so that’s at the time it was 450 wow I think I think it was 450 general public and they were giving us it for for 350 so we never we never played there no I need to do a few more golf lessons before I paid that Green fee yeah defo defo but yeah so yeah Island I think Island sh we need to do a week over there for in the Reds do a load of filming just get loads done and just play some incredible courses cuz I don’t think there’s Bar St Andrews I would say Ireland’s the next specialist place for golf just yeah it’s just Mega yeah absolutely Mega similar Vibe yeah get yourself in a nice Clubhouse or a nice Pub afterwards there’s the social side of it golf courses are just pure regardless of I suppose time of year most of the time because of the because of the land the links yeah um really nicely designed so yeah we do need to do a uh we do need to do an island trip yeah we’ll get that sorted right then now that we know we want to go to Ireland a lot and play lots of golf have one one Guinness Let’s uh let’s head to Our Guest who you’ve seen maybe a lot he’s like a resident guest isn’t he I suppose to uh to the MAF frer Golf Channel yeah he played a lot of golf with Andy um good friend of mine we’ve had some great battles filmed some great videos over on the main Channel he’s just recently been on one that came out last week at turnbury um we’ve also got a skills match um from here here um we took on the foresight skills challenge that was really good a really good fun video um sort of surprised him with it which was good as well put him on the spot but um that was after we filmed the podcast as well so he’d been bigging himself up that you’ll uh hear shortly about his golf in this next section but yeah then we we said right okay you talk a good game Let’s uh let’s see it and we’ve uh we’ve got that video coming out this week as well so make sure you’re heading over to the main Channel um to to go and watch that and also go and check out Andy on his socials as well but without further Ado let’s jump into the podcast with Mr Andrew Carter so joining us on the podcast now our first guest it couldn’t be a better one it is none other than Mr Andrew Carter welcome to the podcast and thanks very much it’s an absolute lie but I’ll take it it’s an absolute who from me or you from you yeah it’s a it’s a white lie those little ones you tell to make people feel a little bit better it worked it worked thanks for having me yeah it’s a pleasure how how’s it been back up in the north you’re obviously down south now aren’t you I am this is second second week in a row to be fair so obviously just finding any excuse to come north what what were you up for last week um I can’t remember what was I up for last week I wasn’t involved so I feel hard done by now I know I filmed at hesketh where we’re doing open qualifying ah open qualifying sneaky a bit of sneaky practice him right is that you and venue that one of cuz you get like you get a couple that you’ve got to choose so I’ve gone for hes and CDI okay um so I’m really hoping it’s hes cuz I’m not played CDI since I was about 12 and I think iard oh right I actually can’t remember it because I was so young and good scoring average thanks yeah yeah zero it’s low isn’t it yeah yeah well we we’ll actually get on to open qualifying a little bit later on but um obviously we know each other from YouTube probably and and golf coaching I had I never actually coached with you at Trafford did I I took your job yeah not like in that sort of way you left to go to Dubai you were never taking my job I I gave it to you as I left the country yeah no one could fill your shoes could they no they couldn’t that’s why I left but um yeah more more known from YouTube we’ve we’ve obviously filmed a lot together over what last six years yeah i’ say 6 to8 6 to8 six yeah and for those who maybe don’t know I would imagine that most people listening and watching know your channel but just give us a little little brief history or a little bit of a you know give us the elevator pitch you’ve got 30 seconds sell us Andy Carter golf as a golf coach I probably deliver the the best golf coaching tips there are possible on YouTube I’ll Chuck that out there um also course Vlogs so a bit entertainment go around play different courses play some top golf courses obviously we’ve played a lot together um but but mainly predominantly it is all about coaching and then that kind of funnels into my online coaching as well right and you are you still an active coach are you are you at a range or I don’t honestly know um no I do a little bit at the driving range near where I live in Bristol at the Bristol Golf Club but mainly online coaching through the skillest app right which you’re on as well yeah I’ve recently just got back on so if you did want to check us out on there it’s it’s quite an interesting thing like the whole the whole on online lessons I never thought it would be something that would work because you’re not there in like I’ve always thought as a golf lesson like you’ve got to be there in person it’s got to be you know a bit Hands-On like right we need to do this we need to do that I want to get you feeling this a little bit more because it’s it’s very hard sometimes I think to describe a feeling isn’t it you can obviously grab the club and move people around but how have you found that whole online experience I probably thought the same as you but actually when I was coaching full-time I wasn’t that coach anyway that jumped in and like dragged people into position were you the uh chubs Peterson just rocking back and forth I sat sat on my chair with a cigar just saying two again stop going over the top no no I would I would kind of always just feel like I’d do a lot more through communication and demonstration so actually going online is basically this same sort of thing you do explanation as clear as possible it’s all about communication if you can communicate your point as clearly as possible maybe some ways you’ve got sometimes you’ve got to say it in a couple of different ways for it to resonate drills I often send actually I was teaching a guy yesterday and we did an online lesson and the day later I thought oh actually this drill would be really good so I just randomly sent him like a separate drill I said actually following on from yesterday’s lesson here’s another drill that I think you could could work really well so actually sometimes after the lesson after the fact you can still you still keep in touch yeah I think that that is a good point of it like and especially from our point of view where we have audiences on on YouTube and they they are worldwide you know I have like a heavily American audience um Swedish Australian and things like that and obviously a lot of those to come and get a lesson from me in person would incur a massive cost as where being able to go on to skillist you you pay for your lesson and it’s it’s there and then obviously there’s like the I know you do quite a lot of like the Zoom lessons don’t you I’ve got two today two guys in New York New York right okay yeah so it’s cool like ones they’re on the Range airpods in and we’re just chatting for about an hour just kind of talking through the swing he’s hitting some shots giving him some feels and there there are times when he’s kind of like doing something that you’re not you’re kind of communicating it in a way that he’s not quite doing it correctly you change the way you communicate it he finds it obviously it’s Zoom so I can demonstrate it live yeah um and I can like this is how it feels to me you try this this and this and it it’s actually quite it’s actually quite quick the guy today I’ve got it’s his second lesson we made a big change in his takeaway and today he’s like right takeaway is done sent me a video it looks Mega right onto transition and he’s a good play he’s like a three handicapper as well so he’s that probably does help a little bit as well yeah cuz he’s communication and he understands a lot of how his Body Works how the swing works so even and even a couple of the high handicappers that don’t necessarily understand as much the accountability of having to practice Yeah that’s huge cuz I think when you go into a go a lot of people that go into a golf lesson almost expect you just to sprinkle some magic dust on them and then they turn back two weeks later and they think they’ve done it wait that’s not how it works so actually it’s the it’s because I would all always say send me some swing videos in between lessons and I can say if you doing if you’re doing the drills right or wrong and if you’re doing them wrong or you don’t like them we’ll change them if you like them we’ll double down on them right and then you do the next lesson yeah it is I think it’s a an area of the golf coaching that is quickly like quickly becoming such more of a a a bigger and more ACC ible thing as well you know especially I think a lot of times for people um going for the first golf lesson it’s quite a daunting nerve-wracking thing but from a perspective where you know we’ve got thousands of videos online and people know what we’re like they know our style of coaching the sort of know our personality I would imagine it’s a little bit easier to to sort of feel a bit more comfortable a because maybe you’re not in the room with that person yeah but you’re you know sending them or sending Andy a lesson I’m sending him a video of my golf swing I know Andy I’ve watched his videos and it might not be as as daunting for them to start off and yeah I mean weirdly a lot of them will say certainly coming through now they’ll be like I’ve watched this video really like really liked how you explained it um I think this sort of explanation can work well with me and then straight away they kind of know what language you’re going to speak in so they already expect to understand it yeah whereas somebody walking into a golf lesson for the first time with someone they’ve never met that first lesson really isn’t of getting to know each other a little bit that coach has got to try and figure out how you learn and then how he can get the message across yeah yeah it’s a good point that’s interesting yeah and uh would you say you’ll probably you know if you look down the the road at the moment you’ve got your YouTube stuff you’ve got your skillest stuff are you are you favoring one side more is the one that you enjoy more is the one that you see more benefit from or um well one pays the mortgage and one doesn’t right both enjoyable yeah um I think I think from a career perspective I’ve got I look at it as having three jobs I’ve got the YouTube job got the online coaching job and we’ve got a travel business in Dubai so I’ve got like a quite a varied week every single every single week that’s quite nice I like that what’s your what’s your travel business play golf Dubai no free adverts um and what that is that just golf yeah golf trips to Dubai um we help companies organize prams um um out around the DP World Tour events and also we’ got access to all the golf courses and hotels and transfers for the best rates easy easy because for the people listening watching yourself you when you left Trafford you moved over to J yeah golfer States J golfer states where the DP World Tour Championship is so the Earth course and and how was that period for you what was the the big thing you saw out there what was the difference from I think uh I I definitely see it from an American perspective when you go over and talk Golf and golf lessons was there a big one when you went to divide did you see it how how did people adopt golf lessons over there was it like they weren’t bothered about paying x amount of money was it like everyone was into it yeah it’s a weird one because obviously my rate from a golf coaching perspective doubled in rate yeah not because of me just because of where I was demographically yeah um so that was that was one thing as well cuz sometimes you you kind of step back and go oh I’m charging quite a lot of money here for a golf lesson but then actually you’re giving been a completely different experience cuz where we were and you’ve seen the academy yeah we’ve just got everything so actually you would a 50-minute golf lesson over there doesn’t feel like long enough because you’ve got so much that you want to try and do with them yeah try to incorporate short game as well as long game whereas at driving range you’re probably just stick to one thing yeah or if you are chipping you’re just still chipping off a mat into a muddy bucket where whereas in Dubai you kind of you want to take them to the chipping green and nip nip a few and like yeah so it’s a it was a different coaching experience obviously worked under the it was the European tour performance Institute at first a mouthful I know and then it was the Pete C Golf Academy so we been two decent cies really and um Pete himself obviously a great golf coach taught many many a great golfer over the years as W um it’s F he’s not with Fleetwood at the minut he was with um Westwood keer poter came to the range once yeah um he’s taught Andy Carter Gary Woodland and he’s taught some of the best the best of the best of cream of the crop and and what did you what did you learn from Pete out there was there anything that sort of stuck stuck to you that was one thing that uh every golfer needs to know or for me it was when I first heard His Kind of theory it was I found it quite confusing but then the more I heard it the more obvious it feels and sounds it sounds like I always the way I’ve kind of understood it more so is understanding Club face control yeah whether I mean I’m not I used to be I think we all kind of sometimes fall into the Trap of and every amateur golfer always wants to get the club on the inside and hit a draw yeah if you’re three four five six degrees into out or out to win it really doesn’t matter as long as you’ve got relatively decent control of the face yeah face control then will give you consistency and strike yeah so that was one thing that I interpreted from him yeah whether he was trying to get that message across or not I don’t know but that’s definitely was that was my interpretation I love the takeaway love getting the right position on the takeaway cuz I think it sets up the rest of the Swing yeah def that’s one thing I always kind of learned from him when my takeaway was always a bit steep yeah yeah it was it is a magical place and even like you say selling the experience I think nowadays you’ve got it’s the Tommy Fleetwood Academy now where Tommy fleetwoods now yeah as soon as I left he took over did he yeah gutted he was waiting I see the boys on Instagram all the time just got out playing golf with him that’s a solid post workor round of golf isn’t it one of the best players in the world is he one number 12 10 15 yeah I think top 15 yeah yeah yeah he’s quality and he’s a nice guy as well yeah and that would be you know you say the experience you’re you’re practicing again and seeing tall players all the time did you get to play with many whilst you were out there howong Lee was there a lot I remember that he’s a character he’s a funny guy yeah um good player amazing player yeah uh Paul Paul Dum was there a lot he lives in Dubai is he the the Irish lad who did well in the dun Hill did well in the dun Hill one well in dun Hill one of the British Masters he was he was leading the open till the final day wasn’t he that was it was he an amateur at the time an amate was that St Andrews yeah yeah um and who else was there oh um Richard Bland was always there yeah loads of challenge to plays so you just kind of got an idea of how much these guys practice the players there as well were they yeah yeah yeah Amy Balden Camila lar so you had a lot of players kind of in and out practicing working hard yeah brilliant so moving away from from that where what what or where where you taking your golf YouTube to at the minute obviously you’ve done a lot of coaching stuff on the moon to the moon to the Moon um where am I taking it to right I’m very actually you know what we’re get I’m near I’m nearly at 91 000 I’d love to just tip over that 100,000 subscriber Mark yeah that kind of that’s never really been a big thing to me but actually now you get closer to it it’s like and actually now I do really want I want to get there um playing got a lot more playing and Club reviewing comparisons I’m starting to kind of enjoy a bit more of them again couple of years ago Club reviews and comparisons I was not interested in no um manufacturers are starting to send me a few little bits so it’s quite nice to kind of be able to see the differences I’ve got two d in my back today actually where slicing a f slicing a draw slicing draw Nelson did that yeah mad that wasn’t it yeah only Michelson could do that so yeah enjoying kind of testing out a few different products on the market um and then just playing golf just going out and filming that’s the that’s the best content filming just going out and playing 18 O’s or 9 O’s and having a match and having a bit of banter and yeah that’s the that’s the best content the one you enjoy the most yeah yeah who who doesn’t it’s good laughing it yeah it is fun I think you know when obviously you get myself you finchy yeah Rick back together like when we’ve had those days in the past they were always fantastic and they’re always great fun and I think they despite what the level of golf’s like I think it’s always just the the sort of comrad the the little bit of banter between as I think I play for that more than actually how your golf is my I would I would actually say there’s been rarely a golf video where we’ve all played together I thought I’ve actually come off and played quite well I wish Play Pretty crap yeah I always cuz I don’t you don’t concentrate on the you just concate on having a laugh and you play okay but you do I need to start like for me if I had to play good golf I have to be like not talking no and like concentrating that’s it like I can’t banter around and then play good golf yeah I was going going to ask you like how how hard do you find it to play on camera and and what the what do people maybe not sort of see or or understand when it is you know golf on camera because it’s um it’s different to ah totally different to to normal golf you know competition style golf versus what YouTube golf is yeah are two totally different things aren’t they for me the biggest thing and you’ll probably laugh at this is but is put him I would honestly in a in a golf tournament honestly I don’t think i’ I don’t think I missed from inside of like 4 foot 4 in in a in a COR vog I don’t think a whole a put inside a 4 foot I just like cuz when I’m on the cuz when I’m practice when I’m playing I’ll I’ll like I’ll go through the whole routine of like cleaning my ball I’ll I’ll look for the line I’ll even aim point it even though I don’t fully know everything about aim point just yet but I’ll feel it in my feet I’ll like properly line the ball up I’ll make sure I’ll line up with my club to make sure the ball’s perfect I’ll double check it that sounds like a I’m going to take a long time it do take that long but I’m a lot more kind of obviously it means a lot more in a competition so I don’t honestly feel like I miss that many puts at all in a tournament but you stick out with you go we we we have a 30-footer in a vlog leave it 3 or 4 foot probably short in my case and then we kind of go up to it and just hit it or mark it or actually no no don’t even mark it spin the ball around a little bit to line it up approximately towards the hole have a little Nat have a little listen to a of trash talk as you doing your put putting strokes and then you hit it and you surprised that you miss yeah but actually like the difference is like massive it’s astronaut like for for me the big thing I always find and it’s getting easier now like the stuff that we have on board really good at the jobs and they they take more control now but I think up until maybe a year or so ago I was always like I’d be stood over the golf one I still do it now to be fair but I’ll be stood like over the shot and like whatever you know banter we’ve had and everything like that that’s absolutely fine that doesn’t come into my head but I’m thinking like right say we’re on a t- shot is that shot Trac in the right position yeah yeah where’s he stood yeah where’s the other guy stood what’s going on right why does he not move around there yet and and at that point like you’re up to the top of your back swing and you think oh like I’m making a golf swing here yeah like the you know as you said ear you’ve got three jobs I think when we go out to play we end up having like two or three jobs you know you’re you know you’re probably your biggest job is like director yeah you know it’s be like asking Martin score so easy to direct W of Wall Street while trying to play Jordan Belford it’s like not happening um big ourselves there scy YouTube um but it it is hard in that sense isn’t it because you’re thinking of everything else and then like the golf’s almost like a secondary or third thing that comes along you go like like say oh right oh why did I play bad and then you get all the like sometimes the comments oh you’re so rubbish and you think I’d like to maybe take you out there and see what goes into it I always think as well I get away I feel like I get away with t- shots and second shots all right cuz I don’t feel like in general I I spray the ball that much so actually I keep it relative so it doesn’t really look that bad it’s when you get down to the the the inside of a 100 yards I’m not great there even if it was concentrating but I’m not as bad as some of the shots I’ve played but then you get on the putting GRE you get 30 ft away a 30 foot put requires a couple of minutes total of like how how hard do I need to hit this where I need where do I need to aim is that break correct as opposed to walking up to the green putting your bag down spinning the ball around not even cleaning it and then going it’s left to right and not figuring out for me I it could even be right to left cuz I’m not really haven’t looked at it that much and it’s like is it a foot is it three foot and that’s a huge difference to pace and everything so yeah you can I mean I’m I’m bad for making myself look a bit silly on with the old flat stick but when I go to a tournament I’m on the putting green for a good bit before I go out yeah you CH change tot you actually warm up I’m fully fully I’m on the putting green for a good half an hour at least working on those two Footers I’ll Stand I’ll Stand three feet away for a long time yeah just grooving it just grooving it it’ll never miss do you do it until your H one he’s that why you there for so long until I get a thousand in a row calling Montgomery style interesting so um onto sort of the playing side of YouTube and everything obviously we’re known for playing with or one of the reasons why we’re known is for playing with Rick and Pete quite a lot obviously early days before Rick went really really astronomical and Pete did and you know as well we’ve also you know like you said you’ve got couple of roles that you’re doing same for me we all don’t have the time to you know do what we used to do when it was just oh we’ll all film ourselves um in between maybe an afternoon off from coaching and things like that everyone’s different parts of the country and up to different things but we obviously played a lot together had some great matches one of the common questions is who is the best golfer firstly but I’ve got something I want you to do after you answer that one all right um or give us a little bit on each one in fact instead of saying who’s the best give us a little bit on each player I would say who you starting with I’m start myself oh big ad okay now actually know I would say do you want me say who’s the best first you you rank them how I think we I think at different times of the year we’re all different levels yeah we literally just go from flip and flop around I mean even Rick could be the best at some points yeah but no I’d say I’d say we all we chop and change as you do with every if you had if you lined up four six handicappers and 4 10 handicappers and four they changes who’s the best one at a certain time overall I would say it’s between me and you who’s the best one yeah I would say finchi is the biggest practicer yes and because of that he can sometimes beat us but not very often no I don’t think’s beat me for a long time uh Fair U I haven’t played with Rick in about three years to be honest um but watching his break 75 it’s hard to put him ahead of finchi because Finch’s actually at the moment he’s just won a tournament he’s just come second he’s shot a couple of rounds on the par in a row so based on right now today you’d have to fancy finchy but if I was going out with finchy right now I’d fancy myself ahead of fin um if I was playing a tour if I was playing in the same tournament as you yeah I’d fancy myself beating you yeah if I had to play with you yeah I’d need these on yeah i’ 100% win I need them on 100% um so I don’t know if that’s answer your questions or I’ve kind of skipped around it a little bit but a little bit but it’s kind of I would say me you Fint trick yeah what I will say from from when we first started I think Pete’s probably the one who’s improved the most he was like a five handicapper well he was like four didn’t he turn four yeah but so Rick yeah but like when he did that like I turned plus two what were you scratch scratch from where Pete was at let’s say four what was that eight years ago nine years ago when we started he’s actually turned himself into a pretty decent golfer now like he he’s he’s been the one who’s improve the most yeah he should do the might practices yeah he just I wish I wish I had that about me I might be on talk I know yeah that’s what yeah I actually think that I’m practicing now for like open qualifying and for me that’s the worst thing in the world that sometimes like you know the CU with practice comes expectation yeah and expectation is sometimes the bit of my is kind of my downfall sometimes I’m better and I this is only because it’s the way things have happened you know sometimes when you don’t play and practice you just turn up and go here go I I hope I play well today this could go two ways if I don’t play well it’s rightfully so cuz I haven’t practiced just today I hope I really play well cuz it’s a guessing game cuz you haven’t practiced now I’m getting to a point where actually I don’t have that cushion of like expect I’m allowed to have a crap round because I haven’t practiced I’m taking that away from myself which raises expectation yeah and raises the worry a little bit interesting but I’ve SW I’ve had a little swing change I’m hitting the ball like best I’ve it it in ages like consistently wise yeah finding the center consistently I’m going to an aim Point put in class tomorrow I mean like we’re this is this is deep we’re covering bases is is this all for trying to qualify for the open well I’m doing Asian talk qualifying as well the week okay trying to qualify for the international series event at Fox Hills Fox right okay so the week before open qualifying is international Series qualifying at the um at Fox Hills at at Fox Hills Hill right okay that’s the week before good track it is a good track I’ve only played it once I’m going to go back in a couple of weeks and play again and who’s going to be in that field what’s the sort of caliber of player that will be there is it very similar to open qualifying or I don’t know I’ve got a feeling it’ll be better wouldn’t would you not be like well I don’t know really who’s who’s trying to get who’s trying to qualify for international Series in Asian Tour event suppose it’s everyone outside of DP World Tour so you probably got what Clutch tour play Clutch tour players yeah um 2020 Pro Tour players jamaa local tour Pros I suppose so I’m not really 100% to be honest but top eight qualify you never know shoot 66 is it one round one round one round you get in and then you would what get four rounds is that then if you made the cut on the Asian tour yeah interesting D bit of D walk to next week qualify for the second round of the open and is the event actually at Fox Hills as well yeah right okay so that’s the week before open qualifying before open qualify so either how’ you f your chances for that one I don’t you don’t no expectations I’m trying to get no expectations I but I in the way I’m hitting it right now I don’t think i’ I don’t feel like I’d miss many I don’t well I don’t really feel like I’m Miss anyway I don’t miss any I won’t miss a three-footer and I won’t miss a fairway so it depends how good myons are yeah true true so then from there you’ve said you’re going to go and qualify for the try and qualify for the open hesus and Cy yeah is that where Finch’s going do you know I think so and apparently Rick’s in as well is he I think have you have you done h no are you going C nope where are you going I’m going up Scotland why well I don’t like hesus right like generally like I know it’s a nice golf course but I generally I’ve only ever played mediocre around there yeah and CI me yeah I’ve never I can’t really remember it like I it’s again it’s a nice golf course but like when I’ve done it for for the same thing as you I’ve got no expectation of getting through I’ve started actually hitting balls this week for the first time in eight years like I’ve practiced two days in a run like actually done half an hours practice Monday and Tuesday like that is a grind minutes but like looking at it I was like oh let’s look at the list and for those that don’t know when you enter you get 16 courses that you can choose from you have a choice one and a choice two M all located from Scotland down to the bottom of the country one is there one in Ireland I think there’s one over there um and you put those down and then you’d be selected through the draw wouldn’t you so I looked at the list and and I did this I think the last time I tried qualifying was two years ago maybe three years ago and I looked at the list back then and Pam was on there oh yeah and I was like never played Pam really want to go and play that so went and went up there didn’t get through after 9 hour I was like I think I was tied third and then just wet the bed and that was that um finished I think third from last um but again I’ve looked through the list and one of them is Kil manik brassy which obviously we filmed that in the past um I filmed up there on with uh on my own actually last wi the last winter or the winter before I think it was spent a week up there filming doing some stuff we’re actually filming up there during open week as well so I was like do you know what I like that place I enjoy it I know how to play the golf course I’ve generally played it quite nicely when I have done let’s head up there I’ll be sort of comfortable and at home so having not been you know as prepared maybe or sort of competition ready I’ve not played in loads of competitions at least I’ll be a little bit more comfortable up there and then the other one that I’ve put is fulford lead way yeah out leads way yeah so um again a course that is I think is fantastic really really good golf course I did brabers and qualifying there I’ve done you know loads of PGA events back in the day I’ve done prams just social rounds and things like that and it’s it’s I think I’ve looked at it more as like it’s just a day out for me yeah I get two I get two rounds of golf and um I may as well go and play somewhere where I going to enjoy it so fair play I I went for hes based on the fact that the from scoring because where I am in Bristol a lot of the courses around there at Parkland yeah so actually you’ve got to be shooting I think 500 crept in last year W out of the course nearest to where I live whereas you go to hesu level par got in right I do you know what I didn’t even look at that I thought it was going to be low score scoring there and was coldy last time one last year right and then like one one over was was like an alternate who generally the Alterna is generally get in as well MH so I would kind of like I looked at it on based on how I play I’ve not got I’ve not got a five or six under par in me if I don’t practice Yeah it’s questionable I’ve got five or six under me with practice ever but I could muscle it round in level I can I can navigate a golf course in level part with with Li mited practice so that’s kind of the the route I went down I I kind of nearly got it I shot five over last year but two of the worst double bogers you’ve ever seen in your life right from both six puts one was a three put so like I I do look back on last year and got I actually nearly did it with zero practice like zero practice and you you’ve actually gone through haven’t you you’re the only one out of the four of us who gone through yeah I shot one under around West lanks which is the hardest one of the lot yeah I remember that I was cing for Rick actually that year yeah yeah they got hole in one yeah you on the back yeah yeah all right I was uh I was s in the club outside I was about six pints deep just thinking worrying about whether I need to go into a playoff and I thought what’s the point I’m already six in yeah don’t matter I’ve had six PS I’ll just get out there and deal with it right okay what holdes this no thankfully I got in won it you got him where did you play after that glasgo gals that’s next to Kil man at brassy yeah yeah what track that is first round shot seven over the leader was 10 on under he basically be nearly beat by a shot hole fair play you shoot 10 under yeah that’s that’s good going that is a different I mean if I got through to round two like second stage I’d be like that would be me more than happy I’m for round two oh yeah don’t worry about that pal fly back for day you’ll be okay um but yeah well best of luck in it should we have a should we have a wager lowest score lowest yeah or position on the leader board position the leader board is probably fairer yeah I’m going to get through you’re going to get through okay 20 quid D what I beat you position well do 20 quid whoever gets the highest position on the day on the leaderboard there we go you’ve heard it first okay well Andrew that sort of wraps us up for the day who’s the best golfer it was me then you then Finch and Rick close obviously you weren’t listening but yeah but yeah if you haven’t already make sure you do head over to Andy’s channels over on YouTube Instagram gist as well is it Andrew Carter just on Carter head over to there and check him out thank you for coming on and uh we’ll get you back on in the future I think wow thanks very much that’s a that’s a it’s an honor a privilege guys right we’re heading back to the studio well Matt welcome back after your Andy Carter chat yes I can’t believe you were pushed over so much there into Andy tell you he was the better golfer out of the four of you back yourself yes out what and it’s still flabbergasting me now is that he still believes that he’s actually a decent putter he talked about how he was going for his aim Point lesson and that if he didn’t have the camera on him he never misses from inside like three feet I’ve played golf with Andy without a camera and let me tell you he just gives himself everything from three exactly that’s why he never misses take it away pick it up just picks it up hits the green yeah pick up that’s why he’s he’s sort of conned himself into thinking that he is a good golfer but yeah quite an interesting chat um as he did put do you know the only reason I’m going to say he can have that mantle of being the best out the four of us is because he’s better looking than you well that’s granted anyway like Gollum um is that he is the only one out of the four of us who has ever actually made it past Regional qualifying I think I’ve tried it four or five times I got within one shot of making it to the next stage um is my closest and I’m not sure what Rick and Pete’s closest are but Carter actually qualified once and got through to go to final stage he did it at West lanks and then um went on to where he said so so historically on his resume he’s a better golfer if we were judging it by that if that was the you know the be all and end all obviously I’m trying to qualify for the open this year Rick is Pete is Andy is again now is the chance where he can maybe go a step further ahead or one of the other three could level up with him but surely qualif a day it’s just a case of your your decisions made that day rank one to four uh do you think that’s how it will play out do you think it’ll play out as you won based on scores are you all playing different courses though I haven’t looked into where they’re playing I yeah they’re all well they’ve put C in hes I well I don’t know what Rick’s done um I would imagine he’s put C or HTH um I think car yeah Carter said he had as well and I’m going hopefully up north top North lad you’ll have the excuse of a 5H hour drive and a stiff back I’m going the day before well you could have kept the excuse but you’ve just given it away I tried to help no I’m I’m going through I am going through I have had no competitive rounds in the last oh wow uh two years I’m throwing myself in the fire I’m just going to breathe through with a one under are just go with no expectations and you’ll uh you’ll be fine yeah half a set of clubs why why complicate it half a set of clubs half a certain well I’m no good with 14 may as well be have a lighter bag while there yeah have less to carry or push around get a bit creative you know oh you’re on the trolley game now aren’t you you’re on the uh you’re on the power caddy game yeah Power CAD it is brilliant not an ad but it is is lifechanging I actually have come off Matt without a bag on his back is a bit a bit strange I don’t think ever played with you while you’ve had a trolley yeah is it is a weird adoption that you have to take up it’s like oh I’m not picking this thing up no you can take 25 bags of harabo a lot of drinks yeah well that that is the game like that’s the game changer for me throwing so much stuff in it like normally I’d be like right I’m going to take a thimble of water and one Haribo as where now it’s like three or four family funsize packs in there couple of LC Crusades why not throw in a half a liter and a half of Evon why not I can’t wait for you to be uh for and depart on the 16th T and just have a Sugar Sugar Rush sugar crash and shoot uh shoot six over has anyone see the ball so we’ve got um just want to chat to you got presswick going out uh this week I it hang on we’re doing that future thing again it’s gone out for the people watching the podcast yes it’s going out for us tomorrow yes we’re going to get there with this and people it’ll be seamless our days of record yeah and days are publish and no one will know uh but yeah so press Weck went out yesterday yeah um how was I playing with the pro I think that’s a great idea in terms of we spoke in the past about playing with different people on the channel obviously you try and play with other channels when you can Carter for example who’s been on the podcast today and you played with Finch and people are always requesting those collaborations but they’re just not easy to organize are they everybody’s busy they’ve got their own channel to run um obviously I played with you last week week before in wallacy yeah uh that video got got published and they do seem to get good feedback when you play with other people but I think that’s a great idea seeing the pro playing with the pro who got the local knowledge yeah they can talk about the history of the place and they understand the area uh how was that on the course yeah it was really good um David like been very fortunate with him over the the couple of years that I’ve been going up there filming that he’s been really you know really welcoming and Ken who’s the secretary who’s actually leaving I think it’s the end of the year or maybe the end of the summer a great guy who you know know so much about the golf club as well the history obviously it was the it was the birthplace of the Open Championship so even that sort of Mystique and Magic’s there which already adds to the experience and then been able to you know have David come along and play with us and tell us some stuff about the course as we were going round I’ve played it four five six maybe times prior to this but then as we went round it was great that he you know would fill us a little bit more in on little spots that I knew about like the Cardinal bu and different areas of the golf course and when when the the the original 12 holes went to the um the 18 holes that it was what happened there was the the original hole Tom Morris made like a a three or was it a two no he made a two it was a par five and it was like it was crazy long and he holded like a three-wood or something it’s in the video of the story he was quite good at golf wasn’t he he was yeah he was half decent okay half decent half um and it was like like what like would he have been just ahead of you four or would he have been just maybe fifth out of the four YouTubers to be fair he did win the open so yeah I think he just gets into first he got past Regional he got I don’t yeah just yeah just um but yeah it was it was great to have David along and he’s a fantastic guy and his team in the Pro Shop and everyone who is at royal royal presswick who’s at presswick golf club they’re just so welcoming and it’s such a such a great place to go and play golf and see all history like here’s one cool thing I got to hold the clar jug and like the light so if you didn’t know the the open before The claric Jug was played for a red belt so you have this red leather belt and they they had it there it’s not the exact one they were replicas but they’re all boxed up and everything in this glass presentation cabinet and he’s like oh do you want me to get them out I was just about to ask I’ve not been to presswick but I imagine it’s one of those club houses that you walk into and there’s just history on every single wall in every glass cabinet sort of mahogany wood sort of set up that’s how I imagine it it is brilliant is seriously seriously good and he was yeah do you want me to get the clar jug out we’ll get the B I was like oh I text my dad like d dad you won’t believe it I sent in my voice I’m holding The clar Jug and the red belt and he’s like straight on the phone right okay I’m on my way she talk to me what like what’s the inscription like what’s what’s going on but yeah it was uh it was a really really good experience and um very very fortunate to to have that we actually had one with gullen last year we did a similar thing with Alistair the pro up there um who’s been a pro up at goland golf club which again up Scotland way um North Coast that one near uh Edinburgh it’s not the North Coast it’s East Coast is it yeah East Coast Northeast it’s not North do you know what it’s near an oan it’s not North it’s near a sea no it’s not North do you know how much further nor you can go before you get to abine and crude and Bay I’m thinking north of us though okay yeah it’s north of us it’s north of us it’s it’s in Scotland yes and what you were thinking is because above you there’s water yeah which is just the sea yeah the Esty that comes in past Edinburgh yeah which looks then over to sort of London Links and those areas you spend a huge amount of time of your life up there yeah look at a map look at Google Maps on you wi something so it’s not North it’s in the south of Scotland mid Scotland Southeast and it’s on the it’s on the east coast well done which is which is also a very good area where we were talking in the last episode about archerfield links and uh you’ve got sort I think the furthest one on the corner is North baric before you go around the corner and go south you could spend um could live there you could spend a long time there we done a trip there four years ago and stayed in a place called hington this B&B was called the golf in I know the one and it was lovely little bedrooms off the side of a pub um breakfast was great that Hospitality you talk about which is just sort of like homely homely Hospitality you get your your good breakfast in the morning you get out of your game of golf you come back and get your dinner and your your pains yeah that’s a good place the golf in hington and they’ve got hington Golf Club there as well which apparently uh is a great track but because it’s sitting next to the likes of gullen and North barck it just doesn’t quite yeah there’s loads like that in there all around the uh all around the place that get a little bit shunned but yeah we did it did it with alist over there that was great so I think moving forward where you know if you’re not available or we don’t have another player I think it’s a good a good little insight to have you know maybe the pro or the secary or someone like that come and join us so we are um endeavoring to make that a little bit more of a regular thing cuz I think like you said a lot of people tend to enjoy it a little bit more and even for me for my you’re boring by yourself God yeah terrible um yeah so you know it makes it a little bit more bearable and we are trying this week trying to get the promised for ladies one out aren’t we which was a great match we we mentioned it before I think people were expecting it probably last week yeah but we’re trying to get that out this week I know formul L’s members and and the secretary will be eagerly waiting for it they will be we promise it’ll be out screen up for it aren’t they like the Euros final yeah in the beer garden yeah oh that’ll be up now won’t we that’s next week uh yeah next week right I’ll start to get interested interested when we get to the quarters will yes or no England within Euros no oh on that note right we answer yes or no no okay perfect that makes two of us I’m glad we’re on the same uh same page same wavelength great podcast Matt it was good to have our first guest first of many yeah on we’re going to have another one next week that’s uh that is a audre adri adreon Fier um the master the doctor at some point I’ll just be permanently out of my seat shortlived that is the plan that is the plan we couldn’t squeeze another person in there could we it would be very uh very cozy they could stand up and they wouldn’t visual on the visual episode they would just see the chest and uh the the stomach but we’d have to have a a tall mic for them but um yeah we’d have to sit them on the end I think but yeah we’re going to have Adrian on the next episode so if you haven’t already make sure you’re throwing in your questions on on the YouTube video on Instagram we will probably put a post out on the on the runup to when we are filming with him to um get some some stuff in and he is you know in my opinion the best golf coach I’ve certainly met and probably in the world if you do want short answers make sure you ask yes no questions yes no open questions no leading questions closed yes no answers quickfire yeah and we might be able to answer more than two yeah but if you want some advice on you you know how to improve as an amateur I think you know good to pick his brains and and find out probably effective simple ways and things that don’t require you know a complete transformation of your golf swing to actually get you to improve but yeah make sure you leaving those questions and we will get those over to him Tom you will be back in what two weeks then not next episode the episode after I look forward to it yeah you can have have a bit of time off go and play some golf in the rain maybe I will most likely not in Island yeah with you have a good time in Island Matt enjoy play half decent don’t play Too Well you get too big for your boots yeah probably guys hope you’ve enjoyed that episode make sure you are subscribed make sure you’re following downloading leaving us reviews and we will see you in the next episode next week hwa

  1. Love the content when you & Carter are together. Just wish Pete & Rick could join up and get the 4 of you back together more often.

  2. Would you, Carter, Finch and Shiels consider an individual stroke play 18 hole match against each other? Winner gets to show the round on their channel. You wouldn’t have to commentate on course, just concentrate on the match and add voiceover in post if needed.

  3. Finch has to be the best right now because he has performed well in tournament environment, toss up between fryer and carter but I’d lean more towards fryer and Rick is way below them

  4. I absolutely love you four (Matt, Andy, Pete, & Rick) but I truly believe that the biggest mistake all of you are making in your content creation is not filming together as a foursome often. I think you all would gain so many more viewers in doing so. That’s my criticism and I won’t take it back.
