a lot of people in love with the Lions I’m in on the Lions I think the lions are going to be great this year another sign of the buy into that hype Lions season tickets are completely sold out every year going into the first game it was always butterflies always butterflies cuz it’s going to be electric it’s going to be a lot of people there we just want to be able to prove everybody that you know this is what we can do this is what we’re going to do Ks are going to be for yeah about respect being chased by Hinson going to get hit going to go down it is intercepted by the Lions this game is over it’s fun being here in the city with all this excitement and with that being said it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t win and and I think we all know that I know that people will continue to be excited if we continue to win there’s tons of excitement around the team this defense watch the flow and the speed of this defense and there’s nowhere to to go good afternoon how’s everybody good to be back here in Indie I think we haven’t talked since the end of last season so um we like the foundation we have with the young Corp uh we have a culture in place uh that people can thrive in and our approach Remains the Same now we’re here at the combine hopefully we get some good information coming out of this week with a free agency fast approaching that work as long since started the question is now is do these players fit the standard of our culture to be on our team a lot of the free agents that we signed you know they’ve had really really good years and uh we got to make some hard decisions it’s going to be a big off season um you know never like to put too much pressure on my I’ve been watching you know from from a from a distance on a kind of an outside end we we cross pass over the years but um that’s what I’m Brad for you know physical you know traditional style football who are you know just want to oppose your will on people we’re in the business of winning it’s time for us to start doing it you know uh getting a little emotional about it already in the sense but uh you know we’re going to play hard man we going to play together it get adjusted pretty fast absolutely again thank you I’ve been Pittsburgh for 6 years so yeah it’s been you know good good been a good ride for me um but it’s time it’s time to spread you know what I mean it’s time to spread yeah you know what I mean so right situations right time for let’s do it he’s healthy he’s safe all love you know you got support you got people behind youever not just thank you look like JuJu’s happy too the news out of Detroit is running back David Montgomery making the jump from the Bears to the Lions on a three-year deal you know this is not only a good combination between yeah DeAndre Swift and Montgomery they want to run the ball Dan Campbell they’re going to be physical they got one of the better o lines some football all right good deal brother all right see you yes sir what’s going on what’s going on man coachy welcome glad you’re here man congratulations it’s your family that’s ju congratulations I was talking about and this is Ben Johnson right in here y I know I can bring a lot to the table um to get opportunity to come here and play with a team that’s starting something crazy you know being able to say that I can be a part of it I’m blessed I’m excited to be able to get in the offense it’s so powerful and dynamic so I’m excited to be here my emotions are very very high you know uh when I got that call and uh made the decision to come over here uh I knew this is the place I wanted to be because I used to watch games of Detroit and I could see where the team is heading so I just feel like it was a good place for me to be awesome man thanks appreciate you well after last season I I reached out to Frank and Taylor and uh I told them how much I would really like to come back and and play with them and at the time I thought that they just thought I was you know blowing smoke and giving them lip service but uh I really meant it and I’m I’m happy to be back and be able to play with my friends what excites me most is seeing how well the guys on the line have already played so far and how well they play together I would really just like to be a part of that and be a part of a unit that is one of the best in the NFL it’s a good word man how you doing see good to see you man oh happy to be back you already know I know every nook and cranny of Detroit it has that same feel that that it’s always had you know and that’s the the feel that I love you know and I know that they have a new culture um that’s what I’m excited about I just walked around and met with the coaches and it’s just a it’s just a whole new Vibe I can’t wait to get this thing going when the dust settled on the first week of free agency who’s left one-year deal for CJ Gardner Johnson and the Detroit liines he’s a hell of a safety they’re a team to watch out for we know that they got everything going in the right direction hey guys real quick I got CJ here [Music] CJ congrats man nice entering free agency uh we put a lot of work in it’s a lot of late nights but but the hard work did pay off because uh we were able to get the guys that we wanted we were really excited um you know wanted to be aggressive uh in the backend and and getting those guys in the secondary which we’re really jacked about and all those guys uh you know give us a lot of flexibility it’s not about you know putting them in boxes those guys are just smart DBS and uh that’s what we’re really excited about you already knew you already knew you were a fit we’re watching some of all this the stuff we were doing at New Orleans I was just telling Brad you give us that piece back fired up man no it was me to be abely you be a great man excited man what you playing whole crew everything what’s going on CJ Gardner Johnson who many of viewed as one of the best defensive backs available in free agency uh plays in the slot play safety and Aaron Glenn who of course knows CJ Gardner Johnson from his days with the Saints he knows how he fits in to this defense a Coachman high school at the Nike opening I Man Dan rookie year got a lot of familiarity with the coaching style so just understanding the magnitude of the room understanding scheme fit uh and comfortability as a player I’m ready for the fight competing is go win you got your F crew behind you that’s we just have a culture in place that people can really thrive in and you know you always want to look at it from a leadership standpoint you know what is really the culture well it’s what are your values who are you really as a person from a leadership standpoint and can you bring that to life when you bring that to life can it let other people thrive and make others around you better and so we had discussions with all of our upcoming ufas we’re going to try and do our best to keep the Foundation that we have in place and keep the core in place there’s only one man going to meet you today boy and that’s wor for 60 Minutes lions at 12 is this pick real Lion’s making a real Splash belly flop boy for the lions in Arrowhead an impressive rude turnout by a fan base that has long for a moment like this on a stage like this here we go one final snap execute it and it’s over gol takes a knee say good night this game’s over the Detroit Lions they have come in and knocked off the Super Bowl champs 21-2 the final score here at Arrowhead Stadium how long have we been talking about about this game it wasn’t always pretty but they found a way to late question has been asked about these Detroit Lions are they for real well I got something for you you can ask the Chiefs they’ll tell you there for real man now let me ask you this did we expect to win that and that’s exactly what we did because we built that way and everything we talked about was how it went down we had to be patient man offense we go all the way down and score defense we need a takeway we come out at halftime we get a huge takeway told you guys we’re built for this we can overcome anything as long as you guys just hang with been a house of horrors for the Lions but most recently the site of one of the most satisfying victories that was the final game of last season when they knocked Aaron roders and the Packers out of the playoffs tonight this is what they call in the early season a big game it really is and a divisional game guys get an opportunity to really kind of put the stake in this NFC division by getting comes the field goal unit and the turnover is paid off with a field goal pretty good job by Detroit’s defense considering the the hold that they were in after that interception once again Jared gof Lion’s lead there it is it’s good what h d I was going to jump up for it love heart count lion don’t bik there’s the snap fakes the give sets in the pocket throws over the middle knock the air intercepted intercepted by the line come back the other way Jerry Jacob Jerry go Jerry Jacob spun down at the seven yd line a takeaway for the Lions sets him up with great field position straight to a hell of a job man that builds the trust of a football club right there with this defense watch the flow and the speed of this defense and there’s nowhere to go that’s disciplined defense there for Aaron Glenn the defensive coordinator and flying to the football by the Lions love out of the short gun Dylan behind him love wants to throw looks looks slips going to go down sack back inside the 10 cooking on that scoreboard too 27 to3 don’t give the Packers a reason to believe they can come back again they were down 17 nothing Midway through the F fourth quarter last week and came back to beat New Orleans with the shotgun snap to love he’s back throws right side got to complete the Jones he’s blown up if Fatu mapan Wu hit him right at the line of scrimmage and drove him out of bounds there is a flag in behind the [Music] [Applause] play trying to extend that lead spot down kick on the way it is up and it is good so let me get you up to dig the field goal that the line Lions made during that play Quay Walker vaulted into the back field you cannot do that if you come from off the line that is the penalty that you just heard and it gives the Lions a first down at the 6yd line there’s send their jumbo set in fourth and goal from the one for the Lions golf up under Center single back is montgomer GF takes turns gives to Montgomery straight up the gut works his way in tcks down Detroit Lions David Montgomery Towers it home and the Lions extend their lead you talk about a guy that runs behind this pass and punishes people that’s what David Montgomery did nice job and nice job by offensive line for Detroit Lions get a break on the penalty and they make the Packers pass now you just got to finish Kean Nixon will take it four yds deep middle of the field back he comes to the 10 to the 15 hit and drop terrific play Craig Reynolds cut his legs out from mam shy of the 20 yd line they’ll say he’s down Packers are moving quickly now here come the Packers from the LI 14 love back sets looks looks throws intercepted picked off by the lines Jerry Jacobs second of the night jaob to the left sideline and he’ll just run out of Bounds at the 18 yd line that should ice this ball game how about your Detroit Lions two and one coming in here against the two- one Packers first place in the NFC North on the line Green Bay remembered what these guys did to him last year but you
