the year if I should say but I wanted to talk about this Edition today how did it go for you how was it oh it went fantastic you know we were blessed with some some warm weather the last time we were here we had to postpone because of uh the rain so it also gives the Juniors a good opportunity to play different conditions but uh first of all a big thank you to Uganda Golf Club the management all the members for allowing these Juniors uh to participate you know um we’ve seen some great uh Talent today um in boy six division they actually had a sudden death playoff for three holes they they tied for three consecutive Halls unfortunately a winner had to emerge but I think the characters that was built was uh tremendous you know and these are the Future Leaders of the country yeah that should tell you a story that you know golf is growing it’s good for the sport for sure you know and and it’s it’s just interesting to see the statistics as well cuz statistic doesn’t lie you know a lot of Juniors started um on Gross 135 um around there a lot of them are breaking 100 at the moment and it’s just from con consistently playing and actually having that competitive nature you know sometimes we see tears you know there are things that we as officials need to make a call um to go in Conformity with the rules of golf which is not fun I can do it for adults but you need to do it for kids but the the thing is it’s part of the rules they understand it I think parents support it and that’s been one of the biggest successes is the support from parents you know over the last year we just wanted to find our feet we didn’t know where how deep the water is what we’re getting into but we saw the demand of having a junior program the good thing is the clubs managed to support us and you know I can’t thank the clubs enough you know sponsors like ncba came on board and it really you know even even with ncba they didn’t know exactly what we’re getting into but they wanted to support the Juniors and so far it’s been tremendous you’ve talked about growth here um and I wanted to ask you during the past few years that you’ve had this tournament uh what’s been your greatest achievement that you’ve seen so far that you can say you know what we’ve looked at this tournament and guys we’re happy with it it’s definitely the character you know we you get to know these kids um even though they’re not your kids but you get to know them because um you know you need to be strict at time you need to be a friend at times and the way they change their decision making the way they handle um emotion emotionally handle bad outcomes um and good outcomes the sports city you know those are character buildings that that you can see constantly um one thing I must just say you know we’ve got for example one boy Gavin mual you know this boy is from cessi he’s a sponsored Junior um and the way he’s progressed you know he’s been shooting now scores that can actually potentially put him to qualify for international even in World Championships so now it’s a case of seeing how to get him there um but even with him as well you know the kind of golf he plays he’s like the biggest demand everybody now wants to play with him so so for me the next step would definitely be try to get a few more of the Juniors that we need to find a way the ones that cannot necessarily always afford it from namal Long a couple of weeks ago we were at namal long and also fantastic hosts um lugazi and you know there’s a lot of Juniors around that have got the talent they will benefit from continuously playing and nurturing them for the national team but also having them there helps the other players in the competitiveness you you guys let me talk about this particular player um and he was representing the country uh he’s actually right now representing the country at a DP World Tour he was in Hamburg playing uh I think he will be in France uh this week or later on this week we’ll have to find out about that but I’m talking about Ronald Rayo he you Serena as Serena you sponsor him as well and uh looking at these kids that are playing at this tournament today what can you or you think what can be done differently to make sure we have more of the Ronald rugos flying our country’s flag High yeah I think all of us are extremely proud of Ronald you know I’m getting Goosebumps just talking to you about him you know he he now went to to Germany um you know and the focus was not on his performance you know nobody talked about his performance I think it was a little bit overwhelmed um the environment but the fact of what he’s achieved for the country him as an individual you know they even had interviews with his mom um and you know that’s the flagship that we want to fly and you know he’s a big hero of all these these Juniors he’s been um um at some of the prize givings where he explained how he started playing golf with a cassava stick and an avocado seed and so when we do have the price givings as well you’ll you’ll hear his name in the background a lot of times so you know he really sets an example and it’s a great at this moment and given time to have an example to look up to
