Ian previews the Golf Club of Houston ahead of round 1. We are returning to the venue Poults was victorious at back in 2018 on the PGA Tour which won him a spot into The Masters. He relives the putt that forced a play off along with talking through the fundamentals of being successful on this golf course specifically.
[Music] uh we’re on the 17th T golf club of Houston it is uh good par4 487 yards we have a slight dog leg right to left uh Fairway bunker on the left which is carriable for me probably not carriable to drive it into the Fairway cuz it’s 292 on that line so you know I’m just skirting that left hand trap trying to keep it just right of it um and then it’ll be a reasonable distance second shot with this wind into and the fairways are soft we’ve had a had a lot of rain started this week and uh yesterday morning so the ball’s not it’s not bouncing and traveling too far so uh good good test of uh of a par 4 uh and a great venue a venue which in 2018 I was lucky enough to win uh here on the PJ tour got me into the Masters that the week after so it’s nice to finally come back to a venue where you’ve won and kind of rekindle a few of those memories and those visuals around this golf course I hit 79 on the green to about 30 ft and um you know I had a reasonable look at um his part first cuz he’s he’s kind of gave me kind of an indication and uh I I hit my pot and it’s pretty Prett much as soon as I as soon as I hit the pot I you know I I saw it I saw I saw it tracking and I I went I went for the early walk cuz I never saw it missing um which was it it it was a it was a little bit cheeky but um you know it’s it it was one of those wonderful moments to get into a playoff to you know to then go and what in the playoff was pretty awesome just what time year was that like April wasn’t it we for Masters we moved in into the March yeah end of March I remember sitting watching it and it was about 11:00 at night and I was start screaming I was like what are you what is wrong with you just St me toe yeah just putting just put some notes in the book so um I kind of generally add where the grain is on the green so I’ll draw I’ll just draw an arrow in the book I just draw an arrow in the book of where the grain is going on the green so for a second shot into the green just makes it a bit easier to know how the ball’s going to react and then I’ll hit a couple of parts to different areas and again I’ll kind of sort of put the the generalized where the ball’s going to move so when it’s tournament time it’s easy for me to you know see certain shots and PS that I’ve previously [Music] hit come on Breeze hold it touch it a little bit oh what a shot is it great shot yes [Music] [Applause] [Music]
