Greenbrier High girls’ golf team looks to defend state title

The Greenbrier girls golf team has come a long way over the years since head coach Casey heckathorn took over the program the wolf pack has grown from only having one player to winning the state championship last year as Alyssa Lions tells us the pack is back with a shot to defend their Crown this week it gets super frustrating out there the object of the game is simple the mental game is not I kind of taught them how to like breathe calm down a couple of a girls would get you know a little frustrated and just you can play a lot better golf if you just take your time and calm down and breathe and it’s working a first ever State title two area championships all right girls grab wedges the last coming by 34 Strokes with an automatic bid to the state finals I think it gave us a sense of like honor and place and knowing that like we made it this far and we made it to this spot where we can play up in these higher tournaments just feeling like oh this is bigger this is more important it’s a not vac they won’t silence the most important thing is just keep grinding and keep working at it and you know keep reminding our teammates and like reminding each other how important and how cool this is for us to do again that sense of Pride and that sense of knowing that we’ve done this before and we can totally do it again I think we’re ready I think we have the skill when the head covers come off all bets are off we all like to crack jokes but I think that we all know how to get in that mindset and we’re all like okay it’s game time like we need to like we need to start locking in and focusing and I think that we all really do a good job of that we all know like when to turn it on and off Alysa Lions on your side thank you Alyssa here’s a look at the leaderboard after the first round of the Class 5A state championships the wolf pack shot 258 which brings them seven strokes behind Macintosh for the lead Green Brier has some work to do but they’re within Striking Distance heading into tomorrow’s final round
