NBC Sports and the NCAA proudly present the NCAA division 1 men’s golf championships with coverage presented by AT&T and steel the men’s championship matches are underway from omy Lacosta Resort and Spa Auburn squaring off against Florida State Cole Anderson has this putt at the par 3 third to win the hole against Carlos Carson Baka and he walks that in to get that match All Tied Baka won the opening hole and Anderson has battled back to win hole number three three Brett Roberts his second into the first was in the greenside bunker had this left aart to tie the hole and pours that in so a nice up and down Brett Roberts all the matches on the golf course are currently even as we get things rolling it is the 15th year of match play the number one seed line ey going down once again Vanderbilt taken down by Ohio State it was Auburn and Florida State getting through the 56 matchup for the championship round Auburn though coming into this week the number one team in the Country Florida State coming into this week the sixth ranked team in the country so a battle of heavyweights neither school has won a men’s division one Golf Championship last time we had a firsttime winner Eugene Country Club in 2016 when the Oregon Ducks were victorious over the University of Texas first of three years in Carl B California what a gorgeous setting to host the women’s and men’s NCAA championships the weather is perfect on this Championship Wednesday and Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa the North Course playing Host this Gil Hans Jim Wagner renovation took over two years par 72 playing just over 7500 yards and the golf course certainly is set up perfectly for match play we saw that during the men’s quarters and semis yesterday at stake the team championship will it go to Auburn or will it go to Florida State we take a look at the matchups match number one Cole Anderson the red shirt senior for Florida State taking on Carson Baka the red shirt Jr from Auburn in match number two Tyler Weaver from England played in the East Lake Cup matches last year taking on Josiah Gilbert a freshman from Australia for Auburn one of the really important matches and one to really look at that should be a lot of fun Brett Roberts the senior for Florida State taking on the H Haskins Award winner Jackson Ken The Freshman from Auburn who delivered the deciding Point against Ohio State to get Auburn in the championship match Frederick cup senior from Florida State came through in his semi-final matchup against individual Champion Hoshi Thai battl Brendan Valdez the Junior from Auburn and then Luke Clanton and JM Butler will Square Off in match number five in match play Yesterday Butler never Trail in either of his two matches and Clanton was money coming down the stretch over $25 million renovation here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa Bob poppet John Cook so glad you can join us Steve Browski calling the action Billy Ray Brown out on the golf course along with Jim Gallagher Jr Brad dokey and this is Frederick krips third shot at the first bunker shot got a little away from him right there but he’ll have an uphill putt try to save par so catrip and Valdez with two par putts at the first the match is on the golf course right now the first three are tied in the early Goings first hole is a par four most players not using driver and it is going to be a lot of twists and turns throughout the course of the day match number five getting ready to start for the introduction the incomparable the one the only John rice this is finals match number five the referee in this match from San Francisco California please welcome Jim morard and the players in match number five from Florida State University please welcome Luke claen and his opponent from Auburn University please welcome JM Butler Mr Clinton you have the honor play away please Luke Clanton the sophomore from h of Florida has no backup in him he is eighth in the world Amor golf rankings in the quarterfinals he took down North Carolina’s Austin Greaser two and one and then he didn’t blink when Georgia Tech with the late subin put in Christo lampri the number one ranked Amer golfer in the world and beat him two and one was down two through 13 won the final four holes to win the match tells you a little bit something about Luke Clanton down in both of his matches to come back and win JM Butler the senior from Auburn didn’t finish his match against Ben James because it was decided as Auburn had already secured advancement to the semi-finals but in the semi-finals he took down Neil Shipley two and one and never trailed in the match a rematch of last year’s semifinal at the US amiter very experienced player here JM Butler looks like this has got going a little bit left that’s a bad angle and a bad spot not a good start there for JM Brenan Valdez missed his par putt up at one so catrip has this putt to put Florida State up in this match and catches the left Edge so catrip goes one up through one they will head to the reachable par five second this golf course set up for a lot of drama a national championship on the line this Wednesday in carlbad Championship matches out on the golf course this is match number five is JM Butler of Auburn missed the Fairway at one getting ready to play as second out of the rough and John everybody’s going with iron off the te you know just find the Fairway here at one especially with that left hole location yeah and as firm as these greens are Bob you this has has to be out to the right you cannot be long or to the right with this shot bad angle with that PIN in the left and that will chase all the way over you just cannot control the golf ball out of this rough you really have to know what you’re doing be able to hit different shots or just don’t be in there in the first place really penal this rough is Luke Clanton hit it just short of that bunker down the right hand side of the Fairway and a really nice angle in perfect angle you can see that pin in that left corner just have to clear that bunker right there pin is cut about eight over that bunker so there’s plenty of room get it the hole High excellent shot let’s take a look at the matchup the championship matchup between Florida State and Auburn Florida State the five seed Auburn the six seed if you look down at the bottom though Auburn was number one in the country this year with those nine wins Florida State sixth in the country with two wins in the match play champ ionship match for the first time ever but these teams have history in the NCAA and Veteran coaches and Trey Jones and Nick Kleiner for the Auburn Tigers in his 15th year and you know you take a look at these Championship matches and John we’ve been doing the ncaas the men’s side since 2014 and the women since 2015 a lot of times you get to these Championship matches and there might be a throwaway match where you know you’re probably not going to win a point when you look at all five of these matches is you can make a case for either side winning both of these teams have been stacked from the start they were built to win this championship and those those coaches will tell you I have built my team around winning this Championship so like you said there’s no throwaway match in these you know when you think about with the playoffs going on in in basketball and hockey and a seven game series uh game number five tends to be the pivotal one match number three a lot of times turns out to be the pivotal one and we have Brett Roberts against Jackson Ken which is a heavyweight matchup yeah Brett Roberts is a senior a very fine player it’s battling a little bit of a back issue so we’ll see how that plays out during the day uh but Jackson Coen is incredible young player Uber talented freshman won everything uh basically this year so he he is their heavyweight he’s their anchor guy he has to win that point and then the golf course the sun is out so the wind is up a little bit but we’re seeing it get faster and faster each day yeah the Marine layer burned off a a lot earlier today than it has been that means that that wind is going to pick up the sun is coming out uh the golf course is drying up it’s really really quick and there’s some really really tricky pin placements out there Bob so these players are going to have to be careful they’re going to have to pick their spots let’s take you over to the third and welcome in Steve Bowski good afternoon Bob as we continue to watch the Auburn Tigers Florida State seols early going this is match number three Brett Roberts Jackson Coen Roberts on on the team Billy Ray Brown down there watching well thank you burko another perfect day this part three measuring 175 this match All Tied right now both players part the first two holes Billy Ray that’s going to be a tricky little putt it’s going to go uphill a little bit and then down off the back side of that so he’s going to have to be careful with that speed we will see a number of really treacherous hole location today if you put it on the wrong side of the hole it is going to be difficult to reach these putts now Jackson Coen as you said John this guy brings a lot of credentials to the table took it right at it really good shot but that will go off the backside of that little slope as well two nice shots but two very tricky two putts moment ago at the first JM Butler playing his third shot from out of the left rough hit his second shot over the back part of the green yeah a little out of position with his t- shot gave him a bad angle and a bad spot but making up for it with a wonderful pitch shot from over the back of the green outstanding Butler will have that for par Luke Clanton of Florida state does have a birdie putt as the par putt has been conceded so this is Luke Clanton now to win the hole here at number one again Butler yesterday LED at all points of his two matches has not been down yet Clinton on the other hand as we talked about he was down yesterday against the number one ranked Amer player in the world and Christal lpri and did not blink and wind up winning that match in a point yeah one four holes in a row to close that out and in the morning uh he was three down at the turn to Austin Greaser who was a you know world class Amer as well and college players so uh and came back to win that match so he’s a fighter this is a very slow putt moves big time to the left and that’s that ocean effect John C right in that direction toward that those rooms in the hotel everything wants to pull that way yeah the greens are new so the the the ocean pool is not that prevalent yet but it’s just enough a little bit got to be aware like Clanton conceded but Butler’s part but but Butler is got lock jaw right now little stingy this early in the match I would even give that one is tight you get to about 14 forget about it bring your coin match number five tied through one Florida state with an early lead but one up almost means nothing with all the twists and turns that will unfold as we take you out to the third Jackson quen for birdie to win the hole Brett Roberts already in with par a really quick butt coming down the slope turning to his right have to be careful with this speed yeah that one Billy Ray could get away from side of the green so two nice two putts it’s been a big week for Jackson Ken as we take a look at the Fred H Haskins Award presented by St will hand it out a couple days ago to Jackson Ken the Auburn freshman giving out each and every year to the Top Male Collegiate golfer Jackson the first freshman to win the Fred H Haskins award since Justin Thomas did in 2012 head up to the fifth Cole Anderson Carson Baka tied through the first four holes Anderson get ready with his second Jim Gallagher Jr with this match thank you burco he has yet to hit a green this is 148 kind of a nervy start but he’s settled down lot of containment on this hole here Jim you right or left that ball checked up that’s I didn’t think out there pretty yeah I know pretty firm over there good shot though Carson Baka will be next to play and according to Bushnell 133 yards to the hole it’s amazing how we had the same yardage isn’t it well he took relief from I think looked like a seam of the yardage and so he’s I it’s a decent lie anyway but like you said if you go right at it or just to the right of it it’s okay but if you get left of it and you carry it more than 15 Steps on though the holes cut on 22 it does kick and release to over the green as John said but Cole Anderson’s held nicely there on that right side a little bit up fill maybe two yards yeah Jim nine wins for the Tigers heading into these championships winning the Regionals in Baton rou six seed through stroke play couple of wins in the quarters and semis yesterday trying to get win number 10 with a national title yeah that’ll get a little bit better yeah really good shot there by well done good shot there for Carson Baka let’s drop back to two Frederick ketra has a birdie putt to win the hole at the par five second screen actually has been reachable and two for a lot of these players so they had chose to lay the ball up and speaking with Trey Jones from Florida State their head coach this morning described Frederick as extremely intelligent he said their conversations are very different he’s playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers three steps ahead of everyone else golf IQ off the charts does nothing without a plan he said that’s great for the younger players to see John that there’s a process to being successful no doubt about it and he’s he’s their leader on this team he’s he’s a a lot of experience uh internationally as well little misread there that goes away from the ocean which means it’s going into the grain so left that quite a bit short so we have two par putts at the par five number two and some of the intricacies of match play guys is don’t give away the par fives you can lose to a four don’t lose to a Five On a par five and they’re both struggling now for pars two time first team all SEC and the other thing from a momentum stand point and catchup had a chance to really kind of grab the hammer here with that birdie putt you know to go two up through the first two is psychologically very beneficial aldez for his par catchup will have to make his to remain one up this is uh this one’s got a little bit of break to it from left to right and going a little slightly uphill so if it loses speed he can miss this on the right John you would think too with the way the wind is blowing today that front Edge is very doable here to yeah definitely yeah we’ve seen a number of players take a go at this green obviously there’s a a penalty area to the right that is the the danger super fast though from above the hole y so catch up with his par putt at the second and one up over at the four fourth Josiah Gilbert has this putt to win the hole that pin was right on top of the Ridge and is a very tough read but um just miss a little left there that’s a tie and we sta State voice of Brad dokey who help Oklahoma win the 2017 Team Championship at Rich Harvest Farms and yes it does break a lot more than you think good Intel for Coach as he gets that messaging back Florida State up early as we’re just underway with the championship matches from carlbad pretty cool way to spend a Wednesday afternoon with us in carlbad California kovan second into the fourth that was from 107 right over top of the flag stick there there Billy Ray Great lead just to the left of that it goes down into a little collection area so aggressive shot and pulled it off and that is such a small Target on that front right portion of this green today now Robert’s ball on the way there also from 107 yds got to get up yeah there’s little false front right there gets up but that needs to hold on there’s a little bit of a fall off right there stays up though another good opportunity so both players will have a look at birdie more exciting Collegiate Sports comes your way as coverage of the NCAA division 1 Women’s College World Series begins tomorrow May the 30th for more information go to ncaa.com your home for all 90 NCAA championships match number five Luke Clanton and JM Butler Clanton won three consecutive events this season nine top 10s solid season there for the sophomore had to lay the ball up little comfortable position it’s like a nice little gap wedge or pitch Sand Wedge got a control spin there’s a little bit of a ball right there so that is dangerous but that was very handy right now very makeable putt blue Clanton has no backdown in him and he talked about what it means to be a part of this team in the seol program when I came in FSU I was um I was pretty much a lost cause with everything and you know trade and and Robert duck and Ryan hzy those those guys are just amazing coaches and they’ve um they’ve pushed me to my limits for sure since my freshman year and you know having great mentors on the team Cole Anderson Brett Roberts uh Freddy catcher up I mean those guys you know made me the person I am now um how driven I am how much I practice how much I work and because of those guys and you know I think from all my great success I I give it to those guys as well because they they pushed me to my limits and with all that Bob a confident young man as Trey Jones said the head coach he’s the most positive player he has ever coach has immense belief in himself and he said he’s brought some of that FSU Swagger back Butler second in his third and two that needs to hold on right there it barely does that was a little wide right had a good angle match number five tied through the opening hole clanton’s going to have a good look at birdie let’s go back over to three Frederick catchup has this for birdie to win the hole Valdez has a par putut if needed Frederick one up in the early going and John another opportunity to take more than that uh early lead tell you what he hit a really nice t- shot in here to get a little bit left of the flag stick and a little bit long he took on the bunkers in a lot of danger so this is a good opportunity like you said there burko goes up the hill and moving pretty good from left to right it’s slow to start and then when it’ll get off the backside and it’ll pick up some speed so he’s got to be careful he doesn’t lose his right and Frederick’s not afraid to put up big leads early he was four up through five over Hoshi Thai in the semi-finals yesterday afternoon bred Roberts missed his birdie po so Billy Ray jackson kin has an opportunity here to go one up in the match here coming down the slope overall not a lot of breaking this putt for Jackson if he keeps the speed up it’s pretty straight if he doesn’t it’ll move off to the left Florida state does he have a nice putting stroke Billy one up back to three with Brendan Valdez this for par to tie the hole against catchup solid good stroke there right in the [Applause] middle oh smiling infectious personality that permeates the entire Auburn team Dan Butler has this putt for birdie at the second joh this is a putt that when we were out there we didn’t expect to see you didn’t expect to see anybody to the right of this pin unless it was you know for a second putt but there’s a little bit of a slope to his right Bob and and this is a pretty decent swinger from right to left almost has to play it outside the mark it’s up it’s it’s up there no doubt maybe just a bit too firm but that was a nice nice effort John let’s take a look at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa after the renovation originally a dick Wilson design yeah North Course here great Dick Wilson design Gil Hans Jim Wagner and his team came in 16 18 months nice little renovation 419 Bermuda got the Bentgrass greens David Smallwood and his team the director of agronomy just 247 around the clock for the last 16 months big shout out to he and his crew they get this golf course ready for a national championship let’s see if Clanton learns something off Butler’s Miss and to far to the outside yeah it was going to go left [Applause] so missed opportunity for Luke Clanton Butler with a little work left for his par I guess Luke figured if he wasn’t going to give it to me at one I’m not giving it to him at two I was just going to say uh I think the uh the The Cordial theme of this match just turned at the first Hall [Applause] so Butler makes par PO is tied with five and match number five tied through the opening two holes Florida state has a one-up lead in two matches early goings here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa with a national championship hanging in the balance back at the fifth Josiah Gilbert for par to tie the hole so Tyler Weaver too up early in this one been an interchangeable lineup for the seals with gray Albright Weaver and Brett Roberts and part of the big plan for them to get to this point drop back to three with Clanton 175 yards they the pin right in the middle on the left and that’ll come up in the left green side bunker just depends on the LIE if ball flies into these bunkers the sand is so new they have a tendency to to plug so we’ll have to wait and see keep it here with JM Butler it’s important now follow the shot with our top Tracer technology presented by AT&T yeah put this t-shot on the green with your opponent in trouble he does a nice job don’t give away the par threes either in match play you can lose to a two don’t lose to a four Jump Ahead to five Jackson quen one up against Brett Roberts and getting ready to go burko laid well back here on the par for 167 back up in to a little breeze that hes positioned in that back right portion actually pretty accessible here yeah we thought that this whole location Billy Ray was pretty accessible and that comes up pretty short there’s a a lot of containment right and left there so I can take either dead aim or use one of those slopes now Roberts and Billy Ray we’ve talked about out of the lineup yesterday afternoon diagnosed with two stress fractures in the back at end of October didn’t hit a full shot for four months but stayed engaged in practice and it’s tough because he’s a fighter it comes from an athletic family but Trey Jones saying he’s probably about 70% doesn’t quite have the speed distance if he was going full boore well one thing about it you know it’s incredible that he’s playing right now but given the situation trying to win a National Championship there’s enough adrenaline going through his body right now well not much is hurting right now now a green light here 125 pushed it up the Fairway I like the way that he was aggressive off the tea here Billy Ray shorten up this golf hole take advantage of it will it sit and stop it does really well done yeah great shot by Roberts he will have a chance to potentially tie that match up against Jackson Coen we’re just underway Florida State leading in two Coan with a oneup lead the other two matches tied at the present moment earlier today Bob Papa caught up with a special guest and we’re joined by Dan seret the chief sales officer for Omni Hotels and Resorts and Dan hosting the NCAA championships has been a long process can you talk about how great it is to finally see this unfold here over the last two weeks by it’s incredible uh we’re thrilled and proud to be the host of these championships you know this started many years ago this was four and a half years ago with Coach holder and Coach fields and walking into our offices and said hey what do you what do you think of this option and we have incredible owners that have a passion around Golf and they engaged Gil hands and uh we were Off to the Races and and just we’re so grateful for Gil and his engagement with the coaches the men’s coaches and the and the women’s coaches back in 21 wanted to understand how the course should be laid out he had great success in Rio and wanted to understand what they thought the course should be set up and and how it could be a test for the best so we’re we’re here now we’re we’re incredibly grateful uh for gilan and Jim Wagner for the design and the thoughtfulness really thankful and grateful to the NCAA the NCAA had not chosen a site that had never been played uh they trusted us and they trusted Gil and and and here we are today and just lastly with a neutral site we didn’t have a university that wanted to be our host and uh the University of Texas and Chris Delante with Coach field stepped up to be our host and uh it’s magnificent uh can’t wait to see the course continue to build and grow and uh can’t wait to see how today plays out Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa has put a lot into this in preparation for the championship beautiful facility great for families talk about some of the steps to get get to this point there were tons oford there was tons of coordination and and I will say the greyhawk team was was very very helpful uh can’t say enough about Craig Martin the managing director here at the resort and his entire team of a thousand Associates that provide Omni Hospitality every day I I mean the the work to get the teams now staying in the home Hotel was different um setting up all the meals and the spaces we think has been tremendous uh the resort you know this Resort opened in 1965 and has hosted so many golf tournaments over the years just to bring it back to its Heyday um we are thrilled about where this fits in in our portfolio and just the the resort has been amazing I think our attendees the players and the coaches have all enjoyed it um we’re thrilled to be the host and look forward to you know another three years Dan thank you so much for your hospitality and the entire team here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa and special thanks to John Baldwin managing director of championships and alliances for the NCAA we thank the University of Texas for taking on the host role chrystel con director of Athletics head coach John Fields president of the college World Golf Championship Foundation Craig Martin and the entire staff here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa have treated us like gold and we talked about David Smallwood the director of agronomy and what he’s done to get this golf course ready to go kudos to all this is year one of three and hopefully many more here in carlbad over to five yeah it has been a pleasurable couple weeks no doubt about it Brett Roberts to win the hole and tie the match should move a little to his right takes advantage aggressive off the tea it pays off let’s go back to the third Luke Clanton t-shot ended up in the bunker this for par to tie the hole so little bit of a gift there to JM Butler as you said you don’t give up the threes don’t give up the three one up jump ahead to six yeah the par 5 six and Jim Gallagher Jr well this is over at four got catchup and Valdez in this one catchup as this putt for birdie this is the third consecutive hole that catchup has had a good chance to go two up in this match yeah he’s got to make sure he keeps the speed up here and he does it just didn’t move to the right he’s had a couple of opportunities kind of letting Brendon Valdez off the hook a little bit match number one is over at the six and Jim Gallagher Jr catch us up on where we stand here with this match well Anderson hit it left and had a break laid it up and then hit it to here and Baka lost his ball to the right and he has a putt for six this is for four this is just off the right edge of the green he’s choosing to putt it whole location not as dangerously close to the right Edge as it has been had to be a little careful with that so he’s one up through six Carson Baka happy to see the sixth hole in the rearview mirror he’s lost it in all of his matches Valdez for birdie now at four to win the hole to keep the speed up and he does so catchup has missed some opportunities and that match is now tied through four early stages match play men’s division one Golf Championship on the line the 126th Edition in the 15th year of match play comprehensive renovation at Omni Lacosta was recently completed by H golf design course in the North Course features six sets of T’s flexibility play 4,500 yards up to 7500 yds to accommodate players of all different skill levels they’ve used reclaimed water drought tolerant native species and they’ve designed this golf course with the significant changes with the idea of the NCA match play format in mind and it has certainly proven to be excellent match play golf course as we’ve seen here this week and last week for the women’s and men’s ncaas yeah it certainly is a set up for match play like kind of like a on te those yep Josiah Gilbert getting set to play his third bradwood does he have in uh he’s got a little wedge in he just cannot miss right here there’s a huge Valley yeah pinned right in the center in that front section and that’s no bargain right there either there’s a little bit of a little collectionary little dip right there as well so not a not a good miss right there that’s going to be difficult and Weaver’s in a great spot as Tyler Weaver gets set to play his shot here at the six brenley has more on Tyler yeah Bob Tyler Weaver comes from a lineage that knows how to get to the Finish Line dad Jason former horse jockey and stand out on a British flat racing circuit rode over thousand winning horses in his career Tyler said he did a little bit of riding when he was younger but then he got Too Tall Trey Jones compared his frame to a young Brooks Kea and he says if weer as talented as any freshman we’ve ever had and Weaver currently two lengths ahead trying to push it to three lengths ahead here at the par five6 yeah so Weaver is in a perfect spot just short left of the green probably one of the best spots you can put yourself in around the screen and obviously Gilbert is like you said that’s no bargain for a par and Weaver’s already two up in this match if we can get this up and down and make a birdie just here real quick then uh Gilbert might be facing a deep deficit already here early on R can you tell what uh what the issue is here he’s brought in a rules official asking for some sort of a drop I’m trying to check I can’t quite see from where I’m at but I’m going to assume it’s probably sprinkler head which would just be nearest point of relief one Club length yep either that or a seam of a a little bit of AED area yeah it is uh you can kind of see the grass changes color so it could also be a scene I’m right behind this H I can’t quite see sadly but yeah should be no penalty at all um might even give himself a a little bit better live than he had before and a little bit better angle Weaver didn’t play in stroke play but he won both of his matches yesterday and Trey Jones said he was the best player on the team first six events of the fall but he’s not afraid to continue to work hard pushes himself puts in the time on and off the range you said this morning he’s probably already been at the gym once John and probably would do it again before they even teed off yeah I’ve been very impressed by Weaver so far I watched watched him yesterday and um he is a very good golfer a couple loose drives yesterday but other than that he was very solid choosing to pitch the ball just going to try to land this on the green put a little little check on it let it release no real danger of hitting it through to the right unless he really hits a poor shot well I landed it short I think he missed his spot there Brad by about a foot yeah I think he’s definitely trying to land it a little bit further than that it was close to being really good but um he still has a great look at it let’s go back to five Brendan Valdez getting ready for his second catri ory in the green this match tied up oh he’s got the the one-handed follow through and he’s going to get one of those gracious kicks off those Mounds we kept talking about if you miss it way left on this hole it will kick to the right and he got it now over at the fourth JM Butler one up in his match playing his second Luke Clanton has already played his second to the front edge of the green John a little long isn’t bad here a little bit long or a little bit right is not not horrible a little bit left and it’ll go down into another section of the green and be a difficult two putt so going to take it right at it maybe hair to the right does play uphill just a little bit right there will come off the slope it’s trying and he just missed his spot by a couple of feet now that’ll be going downhill down grain take it back over to the six and Weaver has this putt to win the hole Yeah Gilbert h a really good chip it’s just outside of gimme range it looks like but uh Weaver has a very good look here should just be moving a little bit to the right and this would be to win the hole and get a three up lead has to keep the speed up or it will fall to the right pretty good just like that yeah that one just fell off not quite enough Pace uh Gilbert still has a shorty but um it should be it should be no issue for Gilbert it’s a heck of fourth shot he hit into there Brad that was that was a pretty good Chip Shot landed it right into the slope killed it and let it trickle out as a no gimme of a chip shot that’s for sure that’s a huge putt that’s a momentum keeper so Weaver Remains Two up through six Championship will be decided on this Wednesday afternoon Florida State up in two of the matches against Auber Auburn and Florida State both programs in search of their first national champ championship in men’s golf while we were away Brendan Valdez for birdie at the fifth yeah got that fortunate kick off the left Mound across the green to the right and takes advantage of that fortunate kick it’s okay to get a break here and there every once in a while now catchup for the fourth consecutive hole a birdie Putt in this range this now to tie the hole yeah he’s had this putt now three three or four times just stays a little high and what he could have a one or two up lead he’s one down let’s go up to seven Cole Anderson has the lead looking to double it up with a birdie look here Cole Anderson now to up against Carson Baka we always talk about that first match the tone it can set the rest of the way John whenever you see your team’s colors up there with the lead especially in that first match is definitely a momentum Giver over at the par 56 Brett Roberts getting ready to play his third shot you he’s got really open opportunity here he be playing his third shot from just short of the green Jackson kin has had his trouble hit in the rough off the T left hit an awkward second shot now he’s put it long left for his third he’s going to have a difficult up and down so Advantage right now Brett Roberts from FSU cookie you know watching it on TV looking at it looks kind of tight but you hit a lot of pitch shots around the sixth green earlier today and there’s more grass than it looks does It’s a Wonderful surface to pitch off of it’s got a little bit of give to it a little bit of cushion underneath there’s not a lot of grain unless you’re on a big steep slope so this is uh this is very doable here for Brett I think Billy Ray depends on what shot he wants to play little high spinner nice shot yeah that was very well done you heard the contact with spot on there but also that little pitch coming back in to the wind that helped him as well yeah and my short game is not in the best shape it it has ever been I can promise you that I don’t and I I even felt comfortable around these greens take a look at the yeah yeah a few today that was actually pretty spectacular out there today I got lucky World am to golf rankings between Florida State and Auburn and this Coen Roberts match number four versus number 94 Luke Clanton eighth in the world Frederick krp 13th in the world but in match play as we’ve seen it doesn’t matter kin’s now going to have a fourth shot and this just wants to run away from him doesn’t it Billy Ray it it sure does the ball is actually sitting down in this permuda rough on the down slope and once the ball gets on the putting surface it definitely runs away he’s going to have to land it short yeah look for this to come up short but that is pretty well done easy to leave that short and if it it goes with any momentum by the flag stick it is down 30 yards off the green well it’s been an incredible year for Jackson Ken and after his round yesterday he talked about what year one is like playing for the Auburn Tigers my freshman year has obviously been great um I think I’ve just really grown to this team aspect of golf obviously it’s a very individual game and coming into college it added a new aspect um another thing that’s also helped me is my mentality I think I’ve grown uh in my level of maturity so you kind of understand golf a little better and manage my game showed a lot of poise yesterday in that match that propelled Auburn into this champ championship match that’s Adam Wallen of Ohio State and it was you know he blew a lead late but hung in there got a big break at 17 and then hit a wonderful bunker shot at 18 on the 21st hole to close things out and and to that point right there he got a little bit heated off going off the 18th green going to the 19th Hole you could see that he was emotional that was just kind of young nerves but he settled himself down and played some uh pretty good golf in the play off missed the par Putt and the hole will be conceded so Roberts gets the win and goes one up in match number three Florida State leads into Auburn or Florida State now leads in three Auburn two match play on the front nine welcome back to the NCAA men’s division one Championship second shot Brendan Valdez at the par five six yeah taking a go with this par five and two you want to miss it short and left right in there that’s a great leave anything to the right it’ll go 30 40 yards off the right side of the green at the eighth playing 168 yards today Cole Anderson has this putt for par to tie the hole Yeah B’s got it in in too he missed the green the right had kind of a fluffy lie it’s one of the last two holes but this would be a big putt I don’t know there’s a whole lot in this one but he’s rallied since a little bit of a nervy start great Birdie on the last hole this little power three gym has given players both weeks just all kinds of fits great little battle right there needed that we talked about on the top of the show just don’t give away the par threes Anderson Remains Two up now Catra playing his second at the par 5 six this is match four going with iron as well your miss here is short left and both players in ideal position right here at the par five fairly simple little pitch shots Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa the North Course when you get the whole you have to go through the tunnel after three when you get to holes 4 through 12 as part of this renovation that Gil Hans and Jim Wagner did the internal Loop that you used to play was all on the other side of that tunnel yeah we played at uh nine holes we’d go to one two and three then we’d play around what we’re going to see is 13 through 18 that was our front nine and then the back nine was nine holes on the south course we head over to seven Josiah Gilbert long look at birdie to win the hole two down against Tyler Weaver who’s not in as of yet Brett yeah Weaver had a pretty simple looking tip shot from from Green and actually chipped it long Into the Bunker so now Gilbert probably has his two puts to Wi the hole yeah going up that slope really slow it’s uh yeah that was not the best effort there didn’t quite get down that that’s a misfire and that’s a mistake with your with your opponent in trouble yeah if he ends up tying this hole if Gilbert ends up tying this hole that will be a uh a big um big loss there almost feels like a loss so talk about Josiah Gilbert skill set through the roof according to Nick Kleiner the head coach from Auburn but still finding his footing getting comfortable played a lot as an individual in the fall but kept working and grinding and finally got through qualifying find and they had a sense he would be in the lineup come the postseason and that is exactly where he is as we now watch Weaver from that back bunker yeah he’s just on the up slope this is honestly a very makeable bunker shot as far as bunker shots go I wouldn’t be surprised if he scares the hole here you have to swing up the slope keep your level keep your speed up yeah you’re were right there a good call there Brad that did take a look fantastic shot now gilbertt has I mean this is a very important Puck if he ties this hole it will feel like a loss to him not being able to get it down two yeah definitely a flip of momentum perco how about dokey first time doing this and he’s calling bunker shots made when you when you’ve been there before and you have the resume of Brad doy you see these things before we do Luke Clanton for birdie at the fifth one down against JM Butler yeah got to keep the speed up and moving to the right well done and Butler still has a birdie put so early on in that anchor match that could be a pivotal moment for Luke Clanton we we’ve seen him rally in the quarters in the semis yesterday but you don’t want to keep putting yourself behind the eightball yeah never gets flustered does he all right Gilbert long one for par to win the hole at seven got to be careful with this one down the hill yeah we were putting this one early earlier Brad and wait a minute he is still not in power outage twice in a row a little bit nervy right there I think Brad moment to go at the six Catra playing his third shot at the par five yeah went in there low with a little bit of a spinner really well done left himself in a good spot easy little pitch shot so the birdie putt was conceded now Valdez his pitch shot ran out too much this to tie the hole and it catches the left Edge so a mistake by Valdez with his third shot at the par five and catchup gets the win to tie that match up through six yeah that was the same pitch shot basically that ketchup just had so uh he must have caught it maybe a little bit blade low or caught it on the on the crease now Gilbert at seven this for bogey to tie the hole and wow that is shocking and a loss we were out there putting that that particular hole location there Bob and it was not going to be easy no matter where but four putts from the front let go to Five JM Butler just off the back of the green for birdie to tie the hole against Clinton goes down the hill slightly left to right Florida state three Auburn for the matches tied so in the last 20 minutes or so Florida State taking some momentum late on this front nine against Auburn and we’ve seen it in the quarters and semis it flips it has the potential to change but when there’s no tomorrow it’s the final day of the Season you want those leads all right Brett Roberts one up on the seventh against Jackson Coen getting ready to go yeah to your point burco that momentum Roberts has won the last two holes so as you said one up in the match now interesting now he’s got the lead in the match he’s got the tab boox he chose to lay back here and I like that sometimes in match play cuz you can play first into these greens and keep applying the pressure to your opponent he’s got 185 back downhill with a helping wi from the right yeah so this this shot’s really only going to play about maybe 160 yd shot at the most John according to Bush now Billy Ray 185 yards to the hole but again they take a lot of things into consideration in terms of exactly where they want to land it John yeah you make you have to make sure you have to know where is this whole location what is around this you know you don’t want to miss left and that position in which he’s playing from right now to the flag stick is down 6 yards from this position right here try to land this about H three or four steps on the front part of the green and let it run on back downwind firm greens La it back too far and we saw the trouble that Gilbert just had from right there keep it here with Jackson coin and Billy Ray you mentioned he’s lost the last two holes only other time that’s happened in match play the 17th and 18 18 in the semis yesterday afternoon that was from 164 com out of a hot Li that’ll Chase off the right hand side go down miss that bunker be in the rough just depends on the LI he’s got a little bit of green to work with so shouldn’t be too difficult but he’s lost two holes in a row Florida state two up in the first three up in the second one up in the third they’re tied in those fourth and fifth matches an early advantage for FSU on this Wednesday we are back as Championship Wednesday continues Jackson coen’s third at the seventh like he drew a pretty good lie on the up slope so pretty well done still going to have to make a putt take a look at the team rankings entering this NCAA Championship Auburn the top ranked program in the land nine wins heading into the final event of the Season see Florida State at six those two as good as any in the country it’s no fluke to see them get to this point Vanderbilt North Carolina knocked out in the quarterfinals it just speaks to the depth the parody the continued growth John at the men’s game not only in the last 5 10 15 years but from your days at Ohio State absolutely I mean the pro the programs even before us the you know the the crenchaw the kites the Curtis Strange J hoses you know they they were a generation or two before before I got into college in in 1976 so um it’s a it’s a it’s a proud tradition NCA college golf Roberts long one for birdie to win the hole hey guys we uh we’re out here putting this put today from this rightand porch Center the green here it comes up the slope over the little Ridge then back down turning left through this little Valley two pets from here are going to be very good that’s exactly what Josiah Gilbert did 10 minutes ago yes he did and then he left the next one about 4T short so um they were trying to be ultra careful but that’s also knowing where you are back there in the Fairway on what what is presented to you you have to adjust to that well after the four poot at the last Gilbert has this for birdie at the eighth to win the hole is that the same guy takes a little sting off what just happened at 7 nice little battle back from the freshman make her way back to the green at seven couple of par puts for Jackson Ken and Brett Roberts and I don’t believe Roberts has lost his turn here just trying to determine exactly who’s away and it should be Roberts away for his par Jackson is in there going through his routine while Brett Roberts is trying to do his routine I’d say hold on there freshman move over let me do my thing then you can do take all the time you want yeah you’re a mean guy playing match play with John I won a lot of matches by yeah you did I’ll give you that I tell that guy didn’t move over there for a second hold on pump the brakes a little bit this P came from just the top of that [Applause] Crest quman played a nice little shot in there now he has a a great opportunity to save par gave that one a run yeah a little three putt he had in a bad spot down there in that front right well what momentum that he has coming this so if quen makes this putt momentum gone yeah you can take it right back Billy Ray yep Nick Kleiner the head coach for Auburn has been with Jackson all day long you know sometimes you just walk with your leader and say I’m going to see all 18 holes if needed of the way he gets right in there Billy Ray has that same routine one look fire away kind of goose that one just a little bit seventh hole all all week and all last two weeks has just proven to be a brutal brutal hole couple of Bogies at the seventh for Ken and Roberts Brett Roberts remaining one up in the match it’s time now for college memories presented by steifel as we take a look at some of the elite NCAA players from the past Ben khaw winning three individual titles three first team All-American honors Tom Kite in the background had a tremendous career as well Curtis Strange Wake Forest won the individual title as a freshman three-time first team All-American Phil Mickelson also won three individual championships and a four-time first team All-American as well David Duval four-time first team allamerican playing for Georgia Tech National Player of the Year in 1993 of course tiger Woods won the individual championship in 1996 player of the year but all these guys bursting on the scene at a young age Justin Thomas last freshman before Jackson Ken won the H Haskins award to do it Jordan spe helped Texas Longhorns win a National Championship as well in 2012 at Riviera first team All-American Jackson Ken unbelievable start to his collegiate career and John Cook I’ll start with you because you won a national championship at Ohio State you won a US Amer uh you were obviously highly acclaimed coming into the Ohio State program how are you able to manage the expectations and what do you have to do to take it to the next level like you did well I I’ll tell you what I I I improved all the time I had a great mentor in Ken ventu I had a great coach and Coach Jim Brown who kind of stayed out of my way he would he was he would always be there he would always challenged me to get better Kenny Venturi challenged me to get better um and and I improved each and every single year um because I wanted to I wanted to improve I wanted to ask questions I wanted to get better I I understood my weaknesses and you know with with Jackson’s Talent talents right now he’s very young he’s 19 years old he needs to be willing to also see you know how to learn more I I learned to play a lot of different shots how to vary my trajectories my wedge game got better I identified my weaknesses and uh you know was really honest with myself and that’s I I think that’s why I got to improve each and every year Roberts took that big bounce on the green at the eighth and chased off that back Edge as Jackson Ken getting ready to play his t-shot here at the eighth yeah 168 yds with that helping Breeze now the door open for Quin right now and I got to tell you this kid brings a lot to the table what a freshman year that he has had and he’s got some weight on his shoulders to try to get better each and every day like you said John C but one of the things I I look at and that graphic was fantastic in which we saw all those great players and John you and I have played with each and every one of those guys one of the things that I see that I look at at uh quen that I need to see him deal with adversity and there’s going to be a lot of expectations on him moving forward in his golf career now all those players you saw in that graphic those players struggled at one time and fought their way back and this is one of those aspects that I want to see from Coan going forward he has all the shots he has the speed he has a great uh putting touch he has an incredible imagination but I want to see him how he deals with adversity Billy Ray we just showed your picture the big dog winning the uh individual title as a freshman and winning three team titles at the University of Houston how were you able to take it to the next level and then eventually take it out on tour and win what were your keys to being better you know it’s funny John had mentors as well so we we did as well we had I’ll tell you dick Haron here from from River Oaks who uh there in Houston really taught me a lot but also I had a lot of EX players at the University of Houston that we tagged on to that we really really got a lot of help from the older players and so we also had a tradition that we had won a lot of national championships so we came in there with high expectations and of course Dave Williams who’s won 16 national championships he was a guy the leading the charge the whole way he was a tough guy but he was one of those guys that also asked how are you going to get better and put it on your shoulders Houston the second most team championships with 16 bil Ray part of the last Team Championship back in 1985 over to nine Cole Anderson for bogy to win the hole so three up at the turn for Florida State in that one and John when you’re winning holes with boogy Carson Baka maybe a little moment to regroup making the turn yeah exactly he’s going to have to now back at the eighth the other thing Billy Ray is Corin gets ready to play his second we saw that t- shot at the eth there’s no finesse Swings with him everything is full bore isn’t it well one of the things we saw yesterday on that uh 20th playoff hole where he was trying to hit a a really really actually the 20th playoff hole where you wanted to hit a little bitty nineiron and it was full swing full max out and that’s something he’s going to have to learn and I think John the a number of these young players play just I mean full out at all times there’s going to be a point in time when you have to be able to hit the these three quarter shots and learn not to hit Flyers yeah no doubt about it you’re going to have to learn to kind of soft arm shots vary your trajectories uh spin control that’s all part of uh learning how to play the game of golf and to your point I think this is really important what you the point that you made just a little bit ago let’s see how Jackson handles this adversity right now because he bogeyed number five to lose the hole he bogied number six to lose the hole he bogied number seven to tie the hole and he hit a poor t- shot at eight he is under some adversity right now let’s see how he handles this now Roberts playing his second shot John you hit some putts from this part of the green what’s the key here for Roberts to get this close yeah once it gets on the green it’ll kind of try to move a little bit to the left he didn’t get the catch that he wanted now these two players are fighting themselves making some Bogies giving away the par threes yeah to go back to Jackson coyman we might I see him grow up right here and find out how he handles all this adversity let’s make our way over to the ninth Tyler Weaver two up against Josiah Gilbert he’s getting ready to play short of the green yeah uh weer had a pretty bad line in the rough on the left side of the Fairway um had to hack it out just in front of the green and then Gilbert was about had about a 90 yard Fairway bunker shot just one of the scariest shots you can have and now they both have very similar shots it’s a little scary I’m look or from down there it looks very scary but uh back into the breeze they should be able to stop it yeah this whole location here Brad is diabolical there is not much room around this what a touch really well done that was Unreal I think the the wind helped him there let’s go back to eight lengthy par pots at the par 38 Jackson Ken of Auburn first to go wow I say he handled that adversity quite nicely there yeah we’ll see how it you know the next couple holes play out see what kind of t-shot and what kind of approach he hits at the next hole but that was a great battle May settle him down just a little bit he can he can run on some emotion there’s no doubt and the door was open for Roberts with that pitch shot and jnan almost looked like he desell a little bit and just came out flat now he’s going to have to answer with a long par putt yeah looks like he just kind of threw through the club at the ball body stopped moving Club got tangled in that uh snarly Bermuda rough there’s a player you you watch this but you think it’s back down hill this is actually a pretty slow here yeah I would agree with that uh Billy if it does anything it goes slightly uphill and it it should move to his left wow oh my goodness Florida State four Auburn three the match is tied so Ken in trouble at the eighth had this lengthy putt for his par it falls Robert’s not able to answer here in the championship matches between Florida State and Auburn number one team in the country the Auburn Tigers taking on the Florida state seals seals ranked sixth in the country this year Carlsbad California playing host and they got the watch party going on at 70 Legacy club and Tallahassee Florida rooting on Florida State right now they’re up in a couple of the matches been some nice es and flows throughout the course of this championship match Cole Anderson in match number one taking on Carson Baka and Anderson got off to a nice quick start in that match and has control Tyler Weaver three up in his match against Josiah Gilbert hey how you doing nice to meet you and match number three and this is a big one Brett Roberts taking on Jackson Ken coin just winning the eighth to get that match tied up through eight meanwhile Brendan Valdez and Frederick HRI tied through six Frederick’s had a chance to build upon a bigger lead in that match but all tied through six in the anchor match Luke Clanton taking on JM Butler Butler has never trailed in match play so far this week they are tied through the opening six holes takes three to win the national title we head over to seven Valdez for par to win the hole and take a oneup lead over catchup yeah this golf hole right here is giving some of these players a little bit of trouble pars are winning this hole left and right state our first look at the par 510th match number one Carson Baka and Cole Anderson and Baka missed the green to the right with his second now playing his third lot of green to work with goes up that little slope down the backside and this is outstanding so Baka has a short one for birdie and the birdie putt has been conceded Brenan Valdez on the T at the eighth one up in his match he’s won three of the last four 168 yds today and this took dead aim and it paid off aggressive t- shot Cole Anderson has this putt for birdie to tie the hole a big swinger from right to left and that’s not high enough now he’s going to go down that slope up the slope down the backside and he’ll lose to a birdie we make our way over to nine Brett Roberts his second this match all tight here that’s from 122 you mistake here is past the hole this is a small little area tiny little area right there you see trouble left and right like Billy Ray said your Miss has to be long there Frederick catch up on the T at the eighth we’re going to follow it with top Tracer technology presented by A&T one down needing to respond with Valdez in close right side of the T kind of opens up an angle just a little bit can’t go left and he tries to respond and that’s a pretty good shot as well those are two of the better shots we’ve seen in the eight so far now back over at nine perhaps an opening for Jackson kin certainly an opening now just 121 he’s got a great Li in the Fairway like that should be perfect I given a situation here John you have to play past the hole here you can’t miss right or left here it is just absolutely brutal to get up and down yeah especially from the right hand side so he has to be able to control spin too he can use a little bit of a back stop but if he spins it too much it’ll come back off the green there’s that little back stop trying to slow down and that is really well done controll to spin nicely there smart shot Tyler Weaver playing his second into the par R 51th and for everybody in the field John this is very reachable the 10th hole Yeah it’s downwind very firm and fast if you clear that corner bunker you’ll have a go at this green and that comes up in the short in the short bunker kind of just depends on the LIE Brad wood is just Gilbert have left Gilbert has 243 yards um just sitting very pretty in the Fairway obviously the better Miss is to the right of the green but he has a very good uh good chances go zone go zone for him it’s a it’s a different little bit of a different angle Brad the green to him sits kind of sideways so that there’s not a whole lot of space up there so yeah like you said his miss here is to the right for sure if it were me hitting this shot I would definitely try to start one right let it ride the wind to the left if it hangs out then that is perfectly fine it’s an easy up and down 223 flag 210 over the bunker 21 over the bunker yeah that wind’s like kind of holding Frederick catrip has this putt for birdie at the eighth to tie Brendan Valdez who hit it in tight yeah trying to answer he’s going to hang out there so Katra played with big leads yesterday early finds himself now down two through eight you think about those missed opportunities earlier that’s what I yeah that’s not really where you want it right there in that left bunker no I would have uh I think he would have liked to seen that ball heading a little more right the entire way there let’s go over to seven JM Butler has this for par to tie the hole against Luke Clanton up to the challenge there the the seventh that has befuddled many here today yeah pars are winning that hole all over the place so whole have and Par let’s it up to nine Billy Ray give us an update all right Robert SN now has this par putt still not inside quen who has a birdie putt Roberts missed his second shot in the green side bunker hit a fantastic shot just to get to this position but a must make here right now this match is all tied this definitely has some left to right in it not quite that much though so the bogey conceded to Roberts you would almost think this yes would be conceded to coin only needing two putts so wondered how he’d respond to the challenge 20 minutes ago well he’s won back-to-back holes Jackson Ken now won up as Championship Wednesday continues from carlbad California Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa in carlbad California the University of Texas the host University and Josiah Gilbert getting set to play his third shot at the par 510th yeah yeah long bunker shot and that’s really well done Weaver out of a buried Lie from the bunker has about 20 ft left for his birdie hit a pretty incredible shot buried live bunker shot to 20 feet let’s go to 11 Carson Bach a two down against Cole Anderson Jim but has a chance to keep chipping into that lead yeah I mean one thing buddy Alexander told me the coach he said he may not be flashy but he has a Warriors m ality and heart I tell you what that’s going to go a long way he was three down this hasn’t been pretty all day oh Slow Rolling lip out ouch yeah buddy Alexander one of the assisant coaches for the Auburn Tigers longtime Florida Gator coach where he won two national championships so Anderson will hang on to that two-up lead as they make their way to 12 Tyler Weaver has this putt for birdie and sweeper from right to left yeah crests right over top of that little slope it’s on a nice line just hung out there little right good try I you now Gilbert has this put for birdie to win the hole and cut into that Weaver lead Brad yeah from my angle this looks extremely close but this should just be a pretty easy clean up there’s a little bit of movement to the left but not much oh yeah that is uh the putter is not cooperating with G today so far one of those just had it had it lined up there but caught it on the heel a great camera shot you can see it was lined up perfectly caught it on the heel missed left so Gilbert remains three down Florida State leads in the first two matches out Auburn in the next two with match five tied match number three is made its way to the 10th Jackson Ken of Auburn one up Roberts has already hit his second shot over the green here at the par 510 yeah not getting cheated on that golf swing right there puts it right up center of the green will kind of work its way towards the right Edge but a very doable putt rather be putting from there yes go up a little bit of a slope Luke Clanton of Florida state has this putt for birdie to win the hole at the eighth this is match number five tied currently hit a nice shot in there and nice run at it let’s see how cordial these guys are looks like he was bringing his coin couple of car putts upcoming at nine for Brendan Valdez who’s two up against Frederick catchup and it is first time catchup in match play trailing by at least two holes this week and John I go back to those first three or four holes he had a lot of reasonable looks at birdie to extend his oneup lead next thing you know he’s chasing yeah that that’s what happens you let you let your opponent off the hook a couple times and kind of gives him a little bit of momentum now this we just saw this putt goes downhill and moves slightly left to right but not as much as the players think and that catches left side of the hole yeah great par there by Valdez who’s described by Nick Kleiner the Auburn head coach as a freakish athlete one of the best ball Strikers he’s ever coached and you go back to his early days from ages 4 to 10 Brendan Valdez was a competitive gymnast he actually won numerous championships in all six disciplines you you see a lot of multisport athletes when we come to college golf thinking Brendan Valdez might be the first gymnast we’ SE to become a first team All America selection that was announced earlier today that’s incredible I mean you see basketball football baseball maybe some swimming you don’t see many gymnasts big putt here for catrip now for par to tie the hole and stay just to down this will have a little bit of movement from right to left there’s a big Putt in this match right [Music] here we mentioned John earlier he doesn’t do anything without having a full thought out plan so you like seeing his routine stay true but did you ever ch it up to maybe get a different result yeah if the result that yeah if the process that you’re using has not been working got to find another way but uh that worked right there and that was a big putt he did not want to go three down to this this player over at the 12th Carson Baka first match to reach the long part 312 226 yds we did have an ace here at 12 on Sunday Texas Tech Callum Scott from 235 knocked it in with a five iron five iron five iron I’ll tell you what these are two really good t- shots to get it you know even to have a birdie putt but have makeable birdie putts absolutely and Cole Anderson hit one of the best you’ll see all day I guarantee you there’s just a slight break in this but this is the go three up did he Chase it up there over that Ridge they both they both Landed It Up just on the front edge of the green actually believe it or not there’s a ball Mark I could see it you’re just not going to get a better look a what a birdie at 12 for Cole Anderson in match one and he’s now three up through 12 low heading to a very difficult stretch with 134 and 15 got Roberts over the green at the 10th but Billy Ray this is not a brutal shot here not at all he took relief from our Tower just underneath there dropped it and got a pretty good lie plenty green to work with there now Jackson Quin he has an Eagle putt so this is imperative right now that Brett Roberts gets this ball in there really close now he’s got a little Ridge to work with between himself in the hole but he has a good Li and John he can he has a multitude of options here Billy Ray because of his angle is it more straight downhill than like when we were on the green kind of where Coen was this morning where there was a lot more right to left in it you know this is it’s a great point you make he is whole High to the right so now that Ridge is right in front of him he does not have that drastic movement from right to left from this position yeah I think the only uncomfortable thing for him is he cannot see the spot that he wants to land and he has to feel it he can’t he’s he’s pretty far below the green this is one of those shots I got to think you got to choke down here get the ball played back in your stance you must catch this ball first you might see a little steep angle of attack here to go ahead and try to flight the ball down just a bit yeah I like that play Billy Ray B back in his stance hands head does flight it low out to the right doesn’t have any check on [Music] it pretty well done though no doubt so he’ll have that for birdie over the green and two kin has a putt for eagle and let’s quickly move over to 11 putut on the way for Josiah Gil ber three down against Tyler Weaver and Weaver’s going to have a birdie put to go four up in the match that he is it looks like it’s from fairly close range so he had a nice approach shot in there beautiful shot great chance here Brad yeah weer h a great bunker shot from the greenside bunker so he took a go at this screen he did oh Victory lap pays off yes went all the way around the hole but in the bottom of the cup now so all right that’s another win for Weaver and you start looking at these first two matches making the turn early on the back nine as we get another look here and yep just enough three up in the first for Florida State four up in the second match you start projecting Auburn needs to take care of business in those last three as they currently stand kin for Eagle didn’t get it high enough and he’s going to have that for birdie so two birdie putts coming up at the 10th for Ken and Brett Roberts looks like Brett will be our way Nelly cter looking to continue her historic run she’s going to have to earn it this golf championship against the greatest in competition US Women’s Open presented by Ally begins tomorrow on USA at 2 [Music] p.m. Roberts will be first for birdie here Billy Ray and this is actually a a putt that it’s difficult to read because you think it’s going to go across the hole back to the right of it it’s not going to move that much whatsoever I think you got to keep it inside the hole Roberts is one down of the match and coin’s got it in there very close it’s almost a musm yeah good call there Billy Ray you got to remember where where the natural pull is from and that’s to was to his left so it just wasn’t going to break that much and now Jackson kin on the opposite side of the hole maybe he tried to maybe he learned something exact opposite side of the hole so he will keep this one in he should but I I can promise you it won’t take him long to pull the trigger once he gets ready to go here and this can put him two up in the match after 10 so much of good putting is routine consistent routine he has a very consistent routine five Auburn four Auburn is two up Wen with birdie at the 10th now two up in his match against Brett Roberts Florida State up pretty big in the first two matches out Auburn leads and two others on the T at 11 Jackson Ken with the two up lead he’s won the last three holes we’ll take a look at this shot with our top Tracer technology presented by AT&T 307 yards today 287 front L are just short of the green going to chase on on up there there’s a big Mound right there it’ll come back down that was an ex exceptional t- shop that’s going to be a very difficult T putt but he took a go at it and that was followed by Roberts a little more conservative with the iron I’m a little surprised by this tell you the truth you’re two down in the match right now your opponent who’s got the two-up lead has driven the green here and you choose to lay up I just don’t agree with with the play yeah I don’t understand that either Billy Ray I agree with that 100% he’s got plenty of length to reach maybe he’s just not comfortable with the shot but I would have taken a go back at nine Luke Clanton JM Butler tied up two par putts on the way Clanton first to go ball stayed out there to the right Luke also named First Team all America selection earlier today had those three straight wins in the spring for Florida State we’ll keep it here with JM Butler a two-time All America selection as well and became just the second player in the history of the Auburn program to be four-time all SEC performer the other Bill Bergen back in 1978 through 1981 he’s had a couple of wins in the spring that was described as up and down by Nick Kleiner the head coach saying even though he’s one he’s still trying to figure things out like most student athletes are yeah that’s right he’s just trying to figure out ways to get better we talked about that earlier about uh you know identifying your weaknesses identifying your strengths working on those weaknesses learning how to play different shots and the only man not to trail at any point in match play this week yeah this is a pretty good breaker from left to right more so than from the other side of the hole yeah I saw that right away if he was more to the right it doesn’t break as much but we were putting that one today that one has some severe break Psychology major studies the Mind very cerebral tries to really get in the weeds with this game you better watch out if you start thinking too much around this game at the par 312th Josiah Gilbert four down second in they both had about the same pitch shot there and uh it’ll be a putting contest and Gilbert is badly needing a win here soon Weaver four up his biggest lead in match play competition let’s go back to 11 all right Roberts conservative off the te and considering two down Billy Rays you talked about your opponent on the green it’s you you better find a way to make three no doubt he could definitely prove me wrong here but when your opponent’s on the green it’s driven the green and you’re two down and you lay it up man you got to move forward here granted he could come in there he’s got 70 yards a little breeze into him it’s doable here but um it’s something that I have to question here yeah you have to be so precise with this shot Billy Ray it’s on a little Plateau long you go into the penalty area short comes back down that slope and see you oh he got fortunate to stay up but there was enough spin on that ball it stayed just on that little Crest right there coen’s going to have a long look at Eagle at the 11th he’s two up over Roberts Florida State leads in two Auburn and two that anchored match tied making the turn moment ago at the 11th Jackson kin drove it on this par 4 Green this for Eagle to win the hole go three up in the match but not easy no goes up a big slope then down the backside and can pick up some speed right there that is pretty well done that was not easy we knew he was going to have to make a putt for a two- putt well a year ago the Florida Gator won the SEC Championship and it was just the beginning of a postseason run for JC deakon and the boys from Gainesville cuz one month later they would go to greyhawk clean sweep Fred biondi winning the individual title and the the Florida Gator winning the fifth National Championship in the history of the program Auburn looking to do the same this year winning the SEC Championship in the Birmingham Alabama area the question is will they be able to duplicate the feet of the Florida Gators from a year ago and become the fifth SEC team to win in the match play era Roberts third from Over the green yeah fortunate to have it there could have easily gone over the back Edge chose the lay the ball up didn’t work out for him Tyler Weaver has this putt for par at 12 to win the hole and he pulled it so his lead remains four up well that was a golden opportunity to actually put the hammer down now that is surprising Coen from about six feet we said it was going to be a challenging two-putt but that was to go three up in the match yeah that was to take firm control of this match Mr you got to think John you think if you’re Robert’s okay I feel like I escaped one there yeah little bit of little bit of life left over at the 10th Brenan Valdez says this putt for birdie yeah up the slope moving slightly to the left pours it in Valdez with the birdie at the par 510th trying to increase his lead over Frederick krip Burger you mentioned Florida win in the SEC last year and then win in the national championship and they beat a team from the ACC Georgia Tech Synergy Florida actually made a clean sweep of the ACC last year Frederick hatri good look at birdie here to tie the hole of 10 yeah not a lot of break to this maybe just inside the right powered it through any of the break wasn’t going to break that much any anyway Valdez now goes three up as they head to 11 Brooks kepa rooting on the SS wishing good luck to the Florida State team looking for their first division one Golf Championship and Brooks has built a relationship with the entire FSU team bringing them down to South Florida earlier this year working on their game showing him some tips and some things that’s made him a five-time major champ and he’s invested he’ll watch live scoring and say hey nice win but you bogy two of the final three coming in you you got to clean that up and Luke Clinton and the entire seminal have just soaked it all in good advice right there yeah absolutely let’s go to 13 Cole Anderson for bogy yeah drove it into penalty area laid it up and now this for Boi in there close for par yeah mistake off the te yeah it’s going to be a good good situation so Bak is going to pick up a win on 13 and how do you how do you lose big leads start putting your t-ball out of position keep the ball in front of you Jackson Ken has the honor at the 12th 226 yds back into the breze this is a full iron for Jackson golden opportunity on the last toll Billy Ray to take control of this match big swing and a m hit right there 20 yard short of the green that was just a total Miss hit there John we’ve seen some good shots into 12 today back over to 11 Valdez three up against catchup he’s already laid up here at the par 4 Frederick’s got driver will follow with her top Tracer technology presented by AT&T yeah hand Force right here for uh krip has to take a shot at this green he’s got the length that’ll chase out onto the front part of the Grain and they’ll have a similar putt to what we just saw Jackson koven have up that slope but I like the I like the aggressiveness I like the play he’s three down why not sort of what you wanted to see from Brett Roberts in a similar situation 100% Brett Roberts let off the hook on the last hole his t- shot of 12 and he doesn’t like it yeah that was a three iron and a miss hit as well well left to the green short side just going to depend on the LIE it’s going to be a difficult pitch shot Florida State leads in the first two matches out Auburn in the next two with match number five tied through nine Florida State’s Luke Clanton playing his third shot into the par 510th out of position with his t-ball laid the ball up dangerous hole location after laying it up so middle left cannot miss left that will bounce us through and long but it’s not the worst place to be a little bit long he’s got some room to work with per we take a look at the all-americans being announced today Luke Clanton who just hit that third shot into 10 on that list yeah a couple Auburn Tigers as well Jackson Coen Brendan Valdez when you’ve got three here sort of solidifies why uh Auburn and Florida State uh in the conversation for a national title and aoshi Thai of Georgia Tech who won the individual Championship here this week when you win the individual Championship you’re automatically a first team All America selection Gordon Sergeant Christo lampre names you would fully expect how about Ben James the sophomore University of Virginia getting that first team nod finished within a shot of the individual as well JM Butler third to 10 press that layup closer to the green so just a shorter shot control Spin and he does gets on the proper level a little bit deep though catch up at 12 this was Ken’s second into the par three and he’s going to have that tap or maybe even conceded for par Roberts missed the green left at the 12 playing his second shot this was just a moment ago depends on the LIE what type of shot he wants to play so he goes in low wonder why he didn’t try to throw that up in the air get some air under that think alive Roberts has to make this for par and make it to stay two down in the match and John I question that thought he might go through the air there was a little grass behind the ball but I thought he tried to just skip it into that bank and missed the spot so up a little bit of a slope and then another one I got the pace right Auburn three Auburn is three up ah he’s in a precarious position now with Jackson koven three up with six to play yeah Coen in control of that match and now over at the 10th Clanton playing his fourth yeah takes it upstairs trying to run it down the slope I don’t think that was the contact and the catch that he wanted so Butler’s going to have a putt for birdie to win the hole and go back one up again in match play Jay Butler of Auburn has never trailed in a match in the quarters semis and now here in the championship match we’ve seen Clanton come back so you know if he was to lose this hole John we know that Luke Clanton is pretty steady and sturdy as far as not blinking down a hole or two yeah he’s been down in both of his matches significantly two and three down and beating some very accomplished players down the stretch so there’s no give up in Luke Clanton in his quarterfinal match JM Butler was tied with Ben James of Virginia through 15 holes and Auburn sealed the deal and then he defeated Neil Shipley two and one never trailed in that match should go a little right to start that straighten out yeah it’s carrying some speed speed going down that slope that’s the last thing he wanted hit it 4T by she’ll have that for par Valdez will have this for par at 11 three up against catchr on the short Par Four we saw Freddy catrip knock it on the front part of the Grain and that concession is given to Frederick as he had six seven footer for birdie so Frederick trying to turn the tides just a little bit Yeah laid the ball up and end up making bogey there 11 so that’s a just a huge mistake on valdez’s part so we can get a big emotional swing here Clanton has this long par pot and Butler still has work for his par let’s see if Clanton can put the heat on Butler not much to this Bob just goes down the slope got to be a little careful with speed it’s going to wander to the right just a little well we said at the top of the show just don’t give away the par five let’s go to 13 Josiah Gilbert short one for par to win the hole currently four down against Tyler Weaver make it three down chipping in right you always say keep extending matches get another hole maybe another and see what you can do in Florida State first two players out have lost the 13th hole now Butler to win the hole with a par of 10 and go one up not much break here maybe just right of [Applause] Center caught the left Edge gets it in the left side so par for Butler as they head to the driveable par 4 11th Butler goes one up we’re in Carl’s Bad California the Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa this Championship Wednesday continues between Auburn and Florida State the anchor match JM Butler at the 11ths already laid up off the T CL says give me the driver going to give it a go John he’s going to give it a go 287 front 307 hole front right front left bunker back in the bunker though it’s a long one he’s got a long bunker shot a lot of green but danger long jump ahead to 13 Jackson Coen three up against Brett Roberts and it’s kind of time for Brett Roberts to to hit one in close Force the hand of quan to do something no doubt about that burko according to Bush now 157 yards to the hole for Roberts yeah laid well back and that’s a tough one to do here coming up pill to this hole is put one in there his opponent Jackson coin is driven it down there 98 yd short of the green yeah so he pressing the issue and that’s the proper side to be on you don’t want it to be left here really nothing left yeah really wicked part of that green so you’ll have an uphill putt but Jackson coin pressing the issue drove it way down there this is where you have when you have the Te You can press the issue our first look at the par 44th for match one Carson Baka Al Auburn has this putt for par Jim yeah both players drove it right and Baka carried the hazard or the penalty ER excuse me by about six Ines Cole Anderson also in the rough that he laid it up but he’s got about six feet for par so Advantage definitely for Cole Anderson yeah Wicked golf hole right here Jim back into the wi one of the toughest that we all played when we played here still is one of the toughest yeah I wouldn’t mind to see the tea up there maybe challenge that Cross Creek yeah catch up second at the par 31 12th so he’s going to have that for par two down in his match back to 11 JM Butler his second and the conservative approach off the T but I guess if maybe you you get it to the number you like John maybe it satisfies how you play this hole maybe he’s not comfortable with the tshot uh Lan it up to the perfect number now he has to watch he doesn’t over spin it down the right side of that that slope or skip it through the green like we saw Brett Roberts do H locations on a little sliver of a plateau and that’s out that’s gone that’s a but stays up at that and I’m not sure he’s going to be able to get a club cleanly on the back of that ball and that’s the danger with laying the ball up here is it’s a dangerous little wedge shot I’d rather have it pressed down there where you pitch the ball on the green rather than back there it’s a full shot landing on down slopes Cole Anderson has this putt for par to win the hole at 14 yeah Baka actually made bogey from outside of him so he knows exactly what this putt does maybe a little slider yeah should move a little to the right not that much though and that was a golden opportunity to take a strangle hold of this match Anderson Remains Two up heading to 15 coin getting ready for a second and 13 yeah just 98 yards you can go ahead and fire at this flag from here no doubt but he can’t pull it left left and long is a big mistake but how about that how about 4 feet underneath the hole nice shot over to 11 the pressure yes he is Clanton second from the greens side bunker at 11 seeing where Butler went this could be played a whole lot differently now yeah definitely has to keep it left of the flag landing on the down slope let it run out and little conservative but that’s exactly what needed to do this is when you start adjusting to what your opponent is has just done or is doing you start out the golf hole playing it like you want to beat the golf hole but then you start to adjust as you go along have two par putts at the 12th Valdez is away two up in his match against Frederick ketr of Florida State krip had the oneup lead through one and missed opportunities at 2 three and four to seize control of this match just a rough golf hole right here 226 yds but a par there for Brendon valz First Team all Americans now back to JM Butler at 11 we saw a second shot over the Green in the penalty area and seemingly taking in unplayable we’ll come back to that in just a moment but Advantage Clanton Ken at 13 to win another hole [Applause] well he’s taking control of this match he’s pressing the issues we’ve been talking about once you have the T the options are open Sean it was an hour ago he lost six and seven we wondered how he would respond to uncertainty he’s answered yeah I think the answer is a resounding yes there’s a big putt for Frederick krup at 12 to stay to down yeah to cut into that lead or to stay to down that’s right needs this two downs doable three down is a very uphill battle State four Auburn three Auburn is three is three up it does go that way yep it sure does back to Butler at 11 and John we saw it going to the Penalty area dry but you thought it would be challenging and apparently too much of a risk to take on yeah just couldn’t get some you can get lucky down there and maybe get a lie you know what I’m saying that I dress the ball and it rolls into my club careful okay [Music] thanks yeah he might he you can get lucky down there maybe have a a a lie that you can make some solid contact he just didn’t feel that so he’s you know taking his penalty relief so in and two takes the penalty this now is fourth he’s got to be careful right here that he doesn’t that ball doesn’t move and that’s what he was talking to the rules official there and we saw Clanton play a second from the bunker we’ll call it just inside 15 ft so if you’re Butler you try to make it if not you probably head to 12 tied up definitely and burro the way things are looking right now with Ken having a lot of momentum catcher up not making putts this is going to be the match probably to decide it yeah big leads in the first two for Florida State big leads for Auburn in matches three and four and national title on the line you want it to come down to that anchor one don’t you certainly do all right the fourth for Butler [Music] this should have some spin on it around these greens this grass is so good does have some spin that’s really nicely done but that’s for five you wonder if he even makes Clanton putt or you just say let’s go I usually would give them those I I didn’t want to see somebody Putt and really gain momentum I would I would normally concede beautiful contact right here the surrounds this 419 Bermuda grass really has a great grow and has a nice cushion underneath it’s fairly easy to pitch off of yeah this one’s probably closer to 20 ft for Clanton two putts to win the hole he’s going to he’s going to see it may if it was 10 or 12 ft I might give it to him but 20 ft up the slope right two feet by the hole but good enough for Butler to say you’re good that anchor match now tied just inside that friendship Zone I think couple par putts here at 14 Gilbert leaves his short and Tyler Weaver is going to have a putt for par to win the hole yeah this would be a steal for Weaver he drove it in trouble right off the T had to lay up about 60 yards short of the green and uh he was behind the eightball in this hole and this would be a massive win for him and this would put him four up with four to play yeah this putt might be the I don’t want to say seal it but it would definitely feel that way not much to this I don’t think Brad the back of this green is kind of opposite of what you think so this might have a little left to right in it that did he kind of he didn’t play near enough break so Weaver leaves the door open still three up going to the difficult 15th Florida State up in the first two Auburn in the next two match five tied through 11 want to thank everybody here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa for their Hospitality clanton’s t- shot at 12 226 yds oh just missed that front part of the green might have gotten all the way back there but has fairly simple little pitch shot up at 15 Cole Anderson for birdie to go three up it’s fortunate that that didn’t go a little bit further what have got down in that penalty area but takes advantage of that out early the two-year Captain for Florida State it’s been great linear progression as a freshman finding your footing doing what you know how to do into a captain the last two seasons for the seol little opening here for JM Butler coming off the loss at the last as Clanton has missed the green 208 Front 226 hole anything on the front part of the green will chase back there and that will not get to the front of the green so we’ll have two pitch shots take a look at the match play era for the man it started in 2009 Florida took down Georgia Tech last year the Longhorns the host institution here at Omni Lacosta Resort winning in 20122 pepperine in the first year at greyhawk led by Joe heith and Company Derek hitchner won a national championship 2019 at the blessings Stanford took down Texas to win the National Championship now Ken second into 14 up four yeah back left hole location there’s a little bit of a banka on the left that’s going to scoot through the green down the slope flew it about 5 yds too far now he’s in a world of trouble with Brett Roberts in there pretty tight for birdie hit a delightful second our first look at the par 316th with that back left hole location 159 yards and Cole Anderson with the honor Jim yeah John this is 159 yards and you’ve seen this whole location saw the women’s here but looks like you really kind of got to have to go at it because if you go to the right it really kicks so hard listen in [Music] here and I think with a three- up lead Jim I I I I I agree with you I think you have to take dead aim here why not it’s 149 little bit downhill 159 to the hole if you get out to the right it can get through the green pretty quickly yeah that probably back right bunker would be much better than the long bunker it’s just a hard shot right now with a little helping wind like you said anything you know basically dry for sure but anything on green grass is is good John match play mentality you’re up three with three to go it’s the conservative line here force your opponent to have to make a great shot my line would be see the SEC the right bunker the left edge of that right bunker anything that clears the short bunker which is 149 anything out there to the right you don’t want to mess with the left- hand side that’s for sure this is well to the right like we said that got through and you I you don’t want it there iFly meanwhile over at 14ck Jackson Ken four up won five of the last six holes over the green playing his third yeah bumps it into the SL oh how about that and birdie seemingly well out of position hits the little bouncer in there clanks against the flag stick and catches a nice break so now Roberts is going to have to make his birdie just to tie the hole one bounc it up there was what you want to do and it is carrying some speed like it normally it would catches a nice break off the flag stick and goes in so Roberts is going to have to make his birdie to extend the match or kin’s got a point on the board as we take you back to 16 Baka on the T well he’s this is this is why you spend so much time on launch MERS you got to know exactly what your ball will carry yep 149 on that line that’s why it kind of looked like taking it more at the flag there’s a little bit of a back stop right there rather than going out to the right where we’ve seen a lot of balls race through the green so good shot there from Carson Roberts must make this to extend the match or Auburn has a point on the board get a nice approach in here can he take advantage fla state right there Auburn wins the match five and four good effort but he’s going to fall short [Applause] couple of pitch shots at the par 312 JM [Applause] Butler cozy it up there Clanton has already played he’s going to have about 8T left for his par we’ve got in a match that’s tied two lengthy par putts there at the 12th while we have a moment let’s go down to Brentley with Jackson kin who’s put the first point on the the board for Auburn Jackson what a way to finish there you got down early how did you put the pedal down and what you what got you going um I think just kind of realizing where I’m at I got uh I kind of got going fast there at the middle of the front nine and kind of lost track of what I was doing and what I like on the golf course and from then on out I just Tred to slow myself down and uh make some more make some better decisions you had the clinching point the last two rounds get the first one on the board today what does that chip in and getting some blue on the board early do for the other four tigers out there um I think it’s just about getting points on the board um hopefully it takes a little little bit off their shoulders I know this is going to be a very close match Jackson great playing today get out there and watch your boys Bob back to you and Jackson becomes only the second player from Auburn to win a match by five or more holes the other Ben schlotman did it twice in 20 8 at carsten Creek Auburn wound up losing to Oklahoma State in the semifinals and Oklahoma State winning on their home course so Billy Ray Luke Clanton has this oh not not there Luke Clanton has this putt for par has a little bit of left to right to it I think if he hit it straight he’d miss it on the right left or the right Edge that one broke across the hole so now Butler is going to have a putt for par to win the hole and go back one up at the 12th give about 6 feet here should move slightly right to left think if he gets it outside the hole though could miss on the right right Edge pours it in so Butler makes par at the 12th goes back to one up in this anchor match against Luke [Applause] Clanton over at 16 Carson Baka has this putt to win the hole Cole Anderson hit a pretty nice pitch shot Jim he sure did and this ball to move a little right to left Cole’s inside a 3 ft but he hit a wonderful shot in there this probably the shot that Carson hit one of the best you’ll see today yeah this is a must make and he makes it now two down with two to play birdie there by Carson Baka we’ve seen it in the first couple quarterfinals and the semi finals over at 13 Frederick krup needs this for par to tie the hole gets it to go but still a big mountain to climb three down Auburn four Auburn remain three up at 15 putt on the way for Weaver yeah up the slope a little bit that was for birdie he’s three up against Josiah Gilbert Gilbert’s going to have a birdie putt as well but Bob you touched on it you keep looking at the board how things stand Auburn with a point you can really Circle that anchor match is the deciding third Point as things currently stand but if Gilbert can make this get another hole keep playing we’ve seen things switch in these last few holes past couple of days trying to coax that one in trying to snuggle that one in that right side and so par conceded to Josiah Gilbert Weaver still a little bit of work remaining to hang on to that three up lead yeah he wants to see Tyler’s right now I I would want to see this too this this point in the match John we talked about it yesterday but what are the challenges of closing a match out especially considering what’s on the line I think you just have to keep in your mind each shot you hear it so often it’s just it is one shot at a time you can’t get ahead of yourself you got to play the quality shot what is the situation do I need to adjust or or don’t need to adjust maybe I just keep playing and trying to beat the golf course from this point in just beat the golf course Weaver three up three to go against Gilbert Auburn already a point courtesy of the national Player of the Year Jackson Coen the North Course the setting ninth straight year the same venue hosting both the women’s and men’s NCAA championships Josiah Gilbert on the T at 16 will follow with top Tracer technology presented by AT&T 149 clears the bunker 159 hole can’t go left look out that’ll get back in that bunker oh got a pretty good break it didn’t get in that little rake Mark that’s actually a doable bunker shot on the UPS slope can Frederick krip rally here at 14 his second into the Par Four back left hole location long shot just need to fly it about four or five steps on the green let it kind of Chase back that hit short of the green will chase back though it’s pretty flat on that part really well done that’s kind of where Brett Roberts was when Ken HED out from Over the green to close the match out Tyler Weaver three up his t- shot at 16 if he ties this hole Florida state gets a point on the board yeah anything to carry that front bunker 149 this is headed left look out identical shots now over at 14 Frederick fdez of Auburn his second yeah aggressive t-shot up the left hand side kind of shorten the hole a little bit gets it out to the right safely on the green but there’s a little Gumdrop in there that he’s going to have to putt over up over and down the backside not an easy two putt more exciting Collegiate Sports comes your way as coverage of the NCAA division 1 Women’s College World Series begins tomorrow May the 30th for more information go to ncaa.com your home for all 90 NCAA [Music] championships make her way down to 13 with that anchor match JM Butler from Auburn one up against Luke Clanton from Florida State Clanton getting ready to go and Billy Ray caught up with this one all right burco both players have found the Fairway Clanton now from this left hand side of the Fairway and we’ve talked about it way we’ve got to if you’re sitting back in the Fairway you think okay cannot miss left that’s not the place to be you have plenty in room right that’s where we going to leave your next play from it’s back uphill from that position 164 back uphill a hand came off the club there Billy Ray that’s okay better there than left JM Butler getting me ready to go and he has not trailed in any single match yesterday in the quarters the semifinals or the finals today remarkable had no point Billy Ray did he find himself down that is remarkable one I mean uh you have to be really in control of your gol ball to to be in that position but also a master playing match play you couldn’t drive in better position here cookie from that right hand side so a terrific angle as it comes back up the hill 154 and he is a oneup in this match yeah there’s no reason not to try to take a chance right here take some dead dead aim can’t miss it left though that’s for sure but choose the right Club to carry a little bit of a false front let it Chase back there left or long no good it plays uphill just about four yds coming in very high I’m not sure it’s enough uhoh that’s that’s that little false front that that’s a mistake right there Billy Ray it is flipped right there cuz that little pitch right there is not going to be very easy there for Butler he missed his Target by 10 yards up at 17 Cole Anderson two up in the match his second yeah he has struggled off the T and he had 184 and that right bunker on the flat short side that’s going to be rough now over at 16 Tyler Weaver playing his second shot from that back bunker yep identical bunker shot sorry there br oh you’re good he definitely did not have as good of a lie as Gilbert did um Gilbert did have to mark his ball and he’ll replace it now back at 17 with Baka just 120 yards big Advantage here but straight down in hard to hold it here does have a little little bit of a ridge and a back stop left and long but he missed the ridge but he did Birdie 17 yesterday in the semi-finals against Maxwell moldan to at least send it to that last sole so maybe some good vibes from yesterday afternoon Brad they’re fixing the bunker at 16 because of the proximity of where the balls were correct yes their balls were right next to each other and uh Weaver’s uh divot he made through the sand caused uh caused the lie to be different so they got to rake it um and make it comparable to what it was before although his lie before was so perfect I don’t know if he could has gotten himself better lie yeah this right here was a little bit be pitching on a little bit of a down slope this is very doable it’s definitely not the easiest bunker shot usually but I think with this lie on the up slope he definitely has a chance got to get it out to the left a little bit little dump and run something like that yeah that’s a great shot so it’s kind of interesting psychology Anderson of Florida State Ste to the T at 16 up three lost the hole Weaver in danger of doing the same to 17 and here’s Anderson’s third just tough when you shorts side yourself that’s for sure yeah with this new sand there’s really you don’t have unless you’re already in a in a Rak re spot with a perfect rake job tough to put any spin on on these bunkers let’s go back to 13 Butler short of the green with his third this is a difficult pitch coming up up the hill this there’s a spine just left of the hole if he gets on the left side of that spine it’s going to go off to the left and Luke Clinton his opponent is on the green and has a birdie attempt yeah this is a if it gets too far to the right it’ll go down way to the right and that got away from him a little bit there Billy Ray definitely Advantage now Luke Clanton who has one down in this match now over at 16 Tyler Weaver has this putt to tie the hole and put a point on the board for Florida State and we will continue on so that’s the first two matches out Florida state had a chance to close it out at 16 and they’ve lost the hole twice so Weaver’s lead is now two going a 17 and Bak up for birdie to win his second straight hole this at 17 to go one down heading to the last it goes downhill slightly and then pretty good left to right second straight match Carson Baka birdie 17 to keep playing and we just talked about it closing out a match the challeng is for Florida State in this position to put a point up that’s why you have to keep the pressure on your opponent hit quality shots when you have the you dictate what’s going to be going on now for Cole Anderson he has to answer by hitting quality golf shots and he hasn’t done that couple par putts at 14 Valdez three up makes his that’s a good two- putt from where he had it in two down on the front right part of the green that’s a great two- putt over at 13 Clanton in with his par after a two-putt from right of the hole now pressures on Butler to stay one up if you go back to history Luke Clinton doesn’t mind being down late in the match the way he’s performed this week he’s come down and back from a number of matches so he’s not going to go anywhere I can promise you that now Butler now this would be huge for him to keep this momentum one up in the match and this putts downhill it will turn just ever so slightly back to the left yeah Clanton was three down at the turn against Austin Greaser in the quarterfinals rallied to win that he was two down after 13 against Christo Lam yesterday Billy Ray and won four straight to close out the top ranked amiter in the world about that up and down by J M Butler mistake on the approach shot but a nice up and down saves par keeps that oneup lead Auburn has one on the board Ken a five- four win the seals leaded in those first two matches can they close them out we’ll find out when we come back to lacasta Cole Anderson has missed the Fairway Jim here at 18 the LIE doesn’t look great the LI Is Not Great this is I’m assuming they going to be a layup cuz he’s got 292 to the hole location and hole location is on 26 so I think they’re going to try to figure out maybe what the carry is with Baka has 281 in the middle of the faway but I told you back on 11 Baka he’s a warrior boy he has showed at the last two holes it’s tough as yall said to finish off these matches but I’m not sure the player I thought maybe with his whole location you all saw it last week layups probably the better play no doubt about it there Jim especially from this position right here get yourself down there and then preferably kind of left left side of the the Fairway that’s what they’re doing John I think I think excuse me but coach’s trays down there trying to kind of get a decent idea of what the layup is to have the full shot in as you know you want to have a full Sand Wedge into this hole so you could possibly spin it use of that slope to the right but this is definitely going to be a layup yeah back part of this green slopes from the middle of the green towards the back so you have to be back there with some sort of a shot that you are able to put some spin on the ball Anderson lost both of his matches yesterday to Dyan manetti in the quarters and Bartley Forester 3 and2 in the semifinals and John he’s got to try to slow himself down too absolutely he just saw Carson Baka birdie 16 and and 17 on him so but he was a little bit of his own undoing he was out of position he’s been out of position a lot off the te struggled with that today and this layup is out to the right better be in the Fairway H just in the right rough but that should be okay good angle over at 17 Josiah Gilbert his second from the rough two down against Tyler Weaver oh how about that shot by Gilbert yeah playing for the run up and judges it perfectly judge that live perfectly knew it was going to come out and kind of dive bomb on him and run out well done back to the par five 18th Jim what’s the situation here with Carson Baka well now you got to make a decision guys whether you try to go across the ditch cuz short and left is no bargain to kind of get it up and down you need to obviously make birdie to stay in this but 281s is total let listen in I don’t know if hybrid gets there well but that’s what I’m saying do I do I try to hit a Hybrid and if it comes out hot great if not it’s that chip that I can use the bow or do I hit three wood straight out it if it misses left that drips EAS too I the H yeah like sometimes if I catch a spinning though it might only go too far W I’m not going to catch a spin as like it’s 280 FL 282 so it’s about 26 yeah that’s I’m saying Freewood and that’s if you absolutely exactly you like Freewood at that God Behind the Green just right the flag yeah I I still think you that 286 yeah I’m going to try to cut it a little bit so yeah I like that better perfect well we got the information there Jim and I was down there earlier left here is not too bad it’s it’s very cushiony there’s no real grain if you get long left it’s actually an easy pitch kind of up a hill and you can use some slope to contain the ball so his miss here is not right it is left and long it’s it really solid cutting back towards the center of the grain or just hit it right there one it gets through that’s going to be an awkward little pitch shot that’s going to be pitching on a down slope over a little bit of a shoulder that’s not that easy of a pitch shot Baka needs to win this hole to extend the match and we head over to 17 Tyler Weaver from Florida state has already played his second Brad and he’s got a two-up lead yes sir he has about 25 ft for birdie and if you had told me that he would be outside of Gilbert after those t- shots I would have been I would not have believed you so Weaver has a pretty straight putt it’s going to kick a little bit right off of his feet then might move back a little bit left the rest of the way Tyler Weaver has never trailed in this match this for birdie if it goes he closes things out and gets a point for the seals does have to be careful a little bit about speed here as it starts going down that slope that Brad described right there here it is that’s not what you want third shot for Cole Anderson of Florida State at 18 just trying to flight it down and slinging off the slope yeah exactly about middle of the green uh-oh uhoh that’s a big mistake he did not need to go that direction he could have he could have used more slope than that a little bit more to the right like you said right at the center of that green it kind of slopes from right to left and down he did not have to go that direction now Baka excuse me Gilbert for birdie at 17 to take it to the last he got a great look at wavers I wouldn’t be surprised if this one Falls boy that broke across the hole wow thought he might do what his teammate did with 16 and 17 to continue forcing the issue so the par conceded to Josiah Gilbert now Tyler Weaver has a par putt of his own to win the match and get a point for FSU yeah both of these Putters both of these guys have been a little bit shaky with their Putters today but this is when Weaver just has to settle in a spe straight in right trust it knock it in you’re Robert duck Florida State assistant saying trust it knock it in and he does just that Tyler Weaver a two and one Victory tied up at one between Florida State and Auburn let’s go to 15 Brendan Valdez three up against Frederick krup this for birdie krup does have a birdie Putt and we’ll definitely need to make it now yeah it’s a great birdie there at 15 aggressive second got a little bit past the flag two great opportunities here now and you still keep going back to those opportunities catrib had early on the front nine we had to 18 Cole Anderson was three up with three to play lost 16 lost 17 and John cook a huge mistake and uh and Jim a huge mistake here at 18 forced to lay up not getting it on the putting surface with a relatively simple approach shop for his third yeah I’m not going to say he’s going to get away with it but Baka has a very as John said awkward shot here he’s got to land it just nearly perfect cuz it’s going to sling and come off the slope with some pretty good speed if he can keep it on the green he’s in a wonderful shot far Anderson shot he could use the slope behind him to come back off and if it gets too far left it’ll spin get moving to the left so both of these shots are a little bit awkward but I think Baka has the tougher of the two yeah no doubt it’ll be landing on that down slope like you said Jimmy kicking it to the left even if it has some spin that first pitch on that down slope will take that spin off oh no oh no it’s going to be okay yeah that’s going to be better than he thinks he kind of went oh no but we’ve been out we’ seen this shot you don’t want that again right that ball kicked to the left but it got saved a little bit by another slope that’s on the left side of the screen right cuz we saw putts from there you think you have to hit it high but actually you don’t because there’s another slope that kills the speed if it’s further right then it runs off the green John you hit this pitch this morning I did I actually hit some nice pitches from down there I was shocked myself but yeah there’s plenty of cushion there there’s very little grain down there Jim he can spin this he can use some slope and kind of contain it and bring the ball back if he wishes but you don’t want to get it through the green oh I didn’t get it high enough yeah he did perfect if it goes in he wins so great imagination by Cole Anderson the par is conceded so Baka is going to have to make his to send this match to extra holes we go to 15 catrip needs this for birdie to extend the match Brendan Valdez wins five of the final nine holes to close out Frederick catchup four and three and second point for the Auburn Tigers now back at 18 Carson bakov Auburn needs to make this putt to win the 18th and send this match to extra hold oh and he missed it so Florida state gets a second point on the board Cole Anderson winning match number one one up so each team with two points on the board and it’s going to come down to that anchor match match number five between Luke Clanton and JM Butler Championship hanging in the balance here in carlbad California Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa there’s only one match left on the course Florida State and Auburn each have posted two points it comes down to match number five for the national championship Florida State’s Luke Clanton against Auburn’s JM Butler Butler has never trailed in each of the last two days in match play here’s an interesting note for you this is the 15th year of match play in the previous 14 years of match play going back to 2009 in the championship match the team that won the first two matches out which Florida state did have won eight of 14 of the national championships the last to do at Stanford in 2019 at the blessings let’s go over to 14 and Billy Ray Brown is with this final match and it’s been exciting it has certainly been exciting and two heavyweights going at it right now Butler one up in the match both players have found the green here at the 14th Butler will be first to putt Luke Clinton will have a watchful eye on the putt from Butler almost on a similar line and this put initially John coming from this lower tier of this green is very slow as it works its way back up the hill it does there’s a little bit of a gun gum drop too just right of this flag stick so do they have to negotiate that little that little part of the green that’s got a little bit of a bubble yeah that’s just right the FL you know what’s interesting too cuz they’re just kind of in the center of the green if they catch a little bit of that little Gumdrop there just to the right of the hole it’s going to kick it left yeah big time left and pick up some speed if you want to create drama here and trying to win an ason championship this is it down to the final match and these two players know what’s at stake with the other matches ending everybody making their way the teammates to come watch them pick up some speed just goes by the homeall that’s really well done wonderful there now Luke Clanton for his birdie to get this match tied no he had a watch fall on there we it was a a putt that when it comes up to that Crest John and it starts to kind of funnel back to the left it picks up a little speed and once Butler hit that putt Clanton got right in behind to see exactly what it did those last four feet of of this putt yeah he got a great preview off of JM Butler’s identical two good putts from from down there on probably the toughest hole in the golf course well from hole number one there hasn’t been many good Goods there’s been no love JM Butler made Luke Clinton putt one of these on number one and that’s kind of been the story of the day par for Butler at 14 now clanton’s turn Butler remains one up heading to the par 4 15th this match to decide the national championship take a look at the tournament format 30 teams Advanced from The Regionals to make it here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa seven of the top 10 teams in the country six of the eight from match play last year 54 holes of stroke play top teams of 15 and nine individuals advance to the final round of stroke play the individual Champion Koshi taii was crowned on Monday shooting a final round 71 to win by a shot eight teams advance to match play Auburn the number one team in the country sixth in match play Florida state fifth and a national championship is on the line here this afternoon with each team tied at two points a piece and an area look at the par 4 15 John we’ve seen a little bit of everything on this hole have it’s you know short by yardage but it’s very strategic do you press it up there towards the green and have an awkward little pitch shot you can’t drive the green there’s no way to fly the ball on the green it go over into that back water so where where do you want to lay the ball all up it well depends on where the whole location is today it’s in the back there’s a little Plateau back there you have to get it on the on the proper side of that you can see that Ridge just short of that’ll that’ll kick the ball down to the right you miss it to the left it’ll go down to the left but this is in a little bit of a bowl in the back part of this green danger long very strategic Butler getting ready to go looks like a hybrid we’ll watch his shot with our top Tracer technology presented by AT&T well I think that’s the play as you lay up here lay it back to a distance if you can really hug that right hand side of the Fairway that kind of opens up where that flag stick is today if you want to take on that penalty up the right hand side that’s going to be just fine there yeah just leave a a short shot one of his sand wedges gap wedge or whatever type of shot he wants to play and worth repeating Butler has not trailed at any point in the quarterfinals semifinals and this championship match so he knows how to close things out Clanton knows how to Rally late as he’s getting ready to go with looks like a driving iron here Billy right and that would be the case burko [Music] and this up the left hand side yeah kind of tugged it Billy Ray and very fortunate there to get over that native area it is in the rough but it is sitting up Advantage butler off the te at 15 he’s got a oneup lead a final match on the course the outcome will determine this year’s National Champion it’s coming down to the Anchor match JM Butler from Auburn one up against Luke Clanton from Florida State they are playing the 15th and if you’re the head coaches John we know solid lineups top to bottom but there’s always a reason you put somebody in that fifth spot in case it gets there they want the ball at the end exactly what they want and Luke Clanton has shown how reliable he can be just doesn’t give up JM Butler hasn’t lost or hasn’t been behind in a match for reason he’s and that’s why they’re in this position and Clanton will be first Billy Ray after an indifferent t- shot it is a interesting lie that he has as well even though it’s not in the native grass there he’s going to have 124 the balls in the first cutter rough but his back swing is going to be in contact with that native grasp behind we’ll see if that will cause any issue in his back swing he’s definitely going to hit it 12 14 okay so I like oh yeah okay St but your just a little a little bit more yeah yeah and with your cut it’s going to kind of hold back up into that wind take your time well one thing John we’ve seen sorry John bur we’ve seen uh we’re out here this morning if you get just a little aggressive here com out of this flly I don’t expect this ball to fly much but if you don’t catch it perfectly you’re right yes yeah I agree with that I think I think the LIE is fairly clean I don’t think he has to worry about a jumper so much but he does have to worry about over this pin he they called it 128 uh 114 clears that bunker I think he’s looking something in the 16 18 range no more than that no more than that and once it gets over the green there on the right hand side more than likely it will end up in the penalty area hoist way up in the air easy yeah that needs to hold up right there could be gone this could be gone it is we were just saying that John you just get past the flag and it it just was going yep out of position off the T way to stop we’ve we’ve seen it the last two weeks in the women’s and men’s in match play especially the slightest bit off Billy Ray and it’s over the Green in the penalty area how does this change anything for Butler one thing is you do not make the mistake no matter what back there just 111 he got 97 yds clears the bunker will get you on the front of the green yeah the problem with this green is there’s no wide side it’s like can’t go wide side so you have to be underneath the hole right there but that’s going to spin back smart shot well thought out shot there by Butler well Luke Clanton playing out of the rough and that caused issues for him and yesterday his opponent in the semifinals Christo lampi hit it into the penalty area it was sitting up just on that edge tried to play it out and it went right back in and Luke Clinton went on to stage this improbable comeback was down 2 through 13 won the final four holes this was at the par 316th lamick short of that short right hole location that went into the penalty area as well and then over at 17 again and this is a common theme in any match John if you’re playing out of the rough it hurts your chances dramatically and this one kicked hard off the green and into the thick stops at 17 yeah it’s just uh the way that this golf course is set up it gives you wide areas to drive the ball in but if you miss boy you’re got work cut out for you and then that potted 17 wins the match secures a point Florida for Florida State advancing them to the championship match and plon fishing it out of the penalty area at 15 right here yeah right there right yes sir am you tell me this that up a little y one more that closer or no I can stand yes you can can drop between so you have that area drop it [Music] thank ball now in play for Clinton as he’ll play his fourth and this is a big ask coming back up this slope here especially with his opponent on the green just below the hole this is such a difficult shot comes back up the Steep Hill over that back little shter than just not much green to work with John yeah you have to be committed to the type of shots you want to play you can maybe try to bounce it up there take we looked at that we looked at that how much grain is just there on that top quarter of that slope if you’re going to bounce it into that that grain you’re going to have a lot of speed to get it up there yeah that that’s true but I think he’s looks like he’s going to go upstairs which I like that play a little bit better uh you have to hit it so hard if you’re going to bounce it yeah I like this play as well just take a chance try to land it right on the front part of the green that’s going to go down past jm’s marker and that’s going to be for bogey you would think maybe he’ll try to Hole it if not concede move to 16 correct that would be it and if he does hold it I mean he’s just outside the mark a butler and he’s going to get a good read but I would assume that’s going to be the predicament here he’ll take a a shot at it here if he doesn’t hold it more than likely concede the hole but John it all goes back to the t- shot not in the Fairway we’ve seen even shots from the Fairway slightly misjudge end up where the ball of Clanton Just uh really of of any golf hole out here this is the one you have to play from the Fairway because the green is so shallow and it’s such a drop off on both sides you have to be able to control trajectory and spin on this hole how do you slow down the Mind Billy Ray if you’re Luke Clanton well he’s done it a number of times you referenced it about you know half an hour ago he knows the importance there you talked about it and he’s a player that’s very positive I think he has gathered himself I think he’s ready to go here we wouldn’t surprise if if he KN is in give it a go so he concedes the butler JM two up as they head to 16 yeah Auburn getting a step closer to the program’s First National Championship can Clanton rally again we’ll find out when we return final match has moved to the par 316th JM Butler up two according to Bush Nell 159 yds to the hole 16 6 to the back did you know that the new Bushnell Pro X3 plus actually gauges the wind when connected to the Bushnell mobile app right now the wind out of the west southwest at 7 miles hour butler two up playing 16 can Luke Clanton do what he did yesterday and extend this match all Butler wins this hole Auburn wins the national championship well he is chosen wedge here as he comes back down the hill I think John this is a club though if he tries to Max it out he can put it in that back bunker you know if it just trickles in there that’s not that bad of a play but you certainly all you have to do is avoid short here yeah absolutely avoid short and left 149 clears that bunker Billy Ray 159 hole if it’s to the right it gets through the green pretty quick so I’m thinking he’s going right over the middle of that front bunker towards the left edge of that right bunker would be a wise play that would be the exact line that I would choose in there John now also plays just four yards downhill and it’s going to go under that bunker it’s on the up slope though that’s that’s doable that that’s not a bad Miss we saw that this morning guys when we were out there we made that comment you just trickle into that bunker over the green that ball is going to be sitting on the UPS slope that is very very doable from there let’s see how aggressive Luke Clanton wants to be saw Josiah Gilbert from that Bonker win the hole John I got to be thinking okay you’re to down in the match this hole you don’t want to end it here I I think put the still put the ball in the center of the green this hole is can cause so much havoc got just on the green pitch on the down slope and Well Done Carson Baka hit a good shot in here as well just a little closer than that but um he’s got an opportunity one of the great initiatives started in Collegiate golf was the creation of PGA Tour U and Michael for bjornson earned his tour card Crystal lampri because of injury was the only player in the field this week that had an opportunity to take that number one spot but back issues precluded him from playing the big mover this week Carl Phillips of Stanford with his finish in the individual Phillips went from 14th to 10th Steve yeah which gives him conditional status on the corn fairy tour 2 through five fully exempt starting a week or two from now for all these 20 young men to earn that Bob and John and now have a place to play not wonder what’s next and Frederick katup right there at number eight for Florida [Music] State but right now he’s just concerned about Luke Clanton flipping this match and trying to deliver a national championship coal medalist at the ACC championships Florida State came out of the Stanford Regional coming in second as a team behind Illinois Illinois was the number one seed coming into match play Florida State the fifth seed in match play but the six seed in the country number six ranked in the country and JM Butler will have to play out of that back bunker and Luke Clanton will have a putt for birdie here at 16 John I got to take a chance and get up there really close to this shot and buers it’s it is on the UPS slope but the ball’s sitting down just ever so slightly in this bunker but it is on the UPS slope all he has to do here is just basically dump this out and let it feed back down the hole this is doable yeah we’ve seen some up and downs from this back bunker but they have just gotten through and barely Into the Bunker like you said Billy Ray and pretty much on an up slope yeah we saw uh Josiah Gilbert of Auburn uh hit it to about a foot yep just dump it out of the bunker make sure you get it out and then just let it run down that little slope you know if you’re very confident out of this bunker I got to tell you from this position you’re thinking about making almost sometimes yeah got to get it out to the left just a little bit it does break to the right oh my God [Music] what a shot by Butler a call there Billy Ray that was definitely [Applause] holdable so Butler will make par here at 16 this is all about the splash just dump it out of the bunker make sure you get it out right down that slope so now the pressure on Luke Clanton of Florida state has this putt for birdie to win the hole and cut the deficit to one down once it comes off that little Riz joh that come through that Valley it levels out at the hole this is very doable this would not surprise me if if I saw this one go in here he’s looked at this from every direction yeah just off the strike it’ll go a little left once it gets down to the bottom of that slope it might work back to the right but it will definitely straighten out there’s the left in it never got it high enough first time we’ve seen a putt conceded and L Clanton did not give that one a run so now the anchor match goes to 17 and all JM Butler needs to do is tie this hole and Auburn wins the national championship John let’s take a look at the par 4 17th and like a lot of the holes here at Omni Lacosta Resort and Spa hitting the Fairway is the key component to all of this absolutely right right here Bob you can see that got those two right bunkers that first right bunker the the left half of that bunker sneaks in there you can’t see that it sneaks in there further than you think so it pinches in right there left rough is not very good catch a lot of Flyers out out of that front right hole location put the ball in the Fairway might have a nice birdie opportunity great crowds all week the last couple of uh championships for the women and men and it’s been kind of interesting in match play they they’ve taken the ropes down and say you know what get close enjoy the Ambiance and get a front row seat as some of the best women men in the world and the other thing Burg as we’ve driven around the golf course starting with the women last week is uh you know the way the greens are pitched where the ropes were you actually couldn’t see the putting surface as a spectator so they let everybody in and then with that you see some Spectators slowly Meandering across so they got to clear that path as Butler Waits a moment and he’ll get ready to go and it’s Lon driver and burco I like that play because you must I I repeat you must avoid that first bunker on the right hand side it’s 319 to that bunker we’ve seen players find themselves in that unable to get the ball to the putting surface there is some room out to the left though as well yeah I like this play as as well Billy Ray the last the left part of that right bunker seems to just kind of snag golf balls should keep it short of that bunker although it’s little right John it’s going to be okay finds the Fairway though now Clanton with driver yeah I like this play when you’re two down with two to play play you definitely have to force the issue here he’ll take this ball up the left hand side try to shorten down that second shot you stay short of it stay short of it he kind of hit a little low peeling cut that needs to slow down yeah that’s the bunker you can’t see that part from the te and that is really going to be difficult CL had to take it on in desperation mode two down against Butler a national title will be determined here in the next couple of holes the national championship coming down to the Anchor match and Billy Ray Brown assessing the t- shots here at 17 well Butler was going to be first to play but I want to update you on Luke Clinton he has driven the ball in the bunker on the right hand side underneath the lip of this bunker he’s going to be hard pressed to get this ball of the green now Butler’s got 178 and a clear shot to the hole and Clanton two down he’s battled back from a lot of adversity in the other matches but didn’t put a good stroke on that birdie putt at 16 and Billy R JM Butler first to play yeah as you said 178 yards he’s not even thinking that right now that holds position on the right hand side there is some fall off off on the right and the left as well but if he’s just looking just a bit left of this flag don’t want to really miss right it’s a tough little pitch yeah 167 to the front is probably the number that he’s trying to reach and anything left of the hole is much preferable but he takes it right at it and really puts the pressure on now what a wonderful play given the situation I would like to know if that was where he was aiming he caught it solid don’t get me wrong we that might have to be a question you never know I think that might have to be a [Applause] question now Clanton to play his second two down playing 17 this ball it’s a decent lie though but it’s on the UPS slope he’ll just align his shoulders good catch imperative to get this ball to the front of the green here just has to hoist it as high up in the air and catch as much ball as he can caught up pretty clean and that’s going to come up just yeah right where we were hitting those pitches this morning and that’s not an easy pitch from that place over there well you made it look easy this morning well I didn’t have the pressure of the national championship on the line either neither team has won a national championship in men’s golf and Auburn the number one team in the country nine wins this year and the anchor match with JM Butler he’s got the decided Advantage here John and to think about match play between the quarters and the semis and now in the finals for Butler to never Trail in a match is absolutely remarkable that’s why coach Nick Kleiner had put him in that position and I think that you know I think it was really important that uh super freshman Jackson Ken put that first point on the board by being in the middle he he won his match five and four before any of the other two matches so the first point on the board was a blue point I think that got the the the back half of the the the team settled down and even the the first two matches out kind of took their matches a little bit further so I think that was an important Point Luke Clanton most likely is going to have to hold this shot in order to extend this match down to playing seven you hit that pit shot and Billy Ray this morning what’s the play here to try to make it I think Billy Ray had had he he hit the shot we were watching it but John it’s very tight over there back into the grain it’s tough to get a club that you can actually slide underneath the ball so you’re definitely going to have to use some of the bounce on the back of this little sandwich these younger players love to hit those sandwiches bring it in low and with a little bit of check yeah you see the LIE right there it’s a clean lie might be a little tight but this is doable what a wonderful job Trey Jones has done in his 21st year at Alabama n NCAA appearances both teams me reaching match play championship match play for the first time Billy Ray is taking the the pin out he’s he is full go to hold this really he has to basically with his opponent Butler in there close for bir he has to win the hole to extend the match yeah I think he has to land this on the green to take any inconsistencies out those around those sprinkler heads oh it hit the back of the [Applause] hole just carrying too much Pace you know you have to ask the question now cuz that ball hit center cut if the flag was in I’m not sure it was stayed in but that was a wonderful try there by Luke [Applause] Clanton beautiful contact great catch kind of checked and released might have had a little bit too much speed even if the flag stick was in but what an effort Luke Clanton gave it a run needing to make it for birdie to force JM Butler to have to make his and now Butler has two putts for Auburn to win their first NCAA men’s division one Golf Championship good the number one team in the country wi for the 10th time and they are your national champions the Auburn [Applause] Tigers you don’t think this doesn’t mean anything to these players [Applause] oh yeah Newar boys Newar national champs how about that congratulations I can’t tell you GI us this opportunity [Applause] best team ever I wanted to make it but all I could think about was C Auburn has captured the national championship and the winning Point delivered by JM Butler as he wins his match two and one for a 3-2 Auburn win
