off at 101 tomorrow will be the highest over the weekend we’re going to get to 104 tomorrow and then we’ll get back down to 101 102 right there for the rest of the weekend little breeze out there but outside of that it’s going to be uh great great weather here in uh Las Vegas just in casee you bypassed all of the crowd on Memorial Day weekend you might want to Junt up here or a quick weekend this weekend here in Las Vegas that’s for sure and all I can say here in Vegas that uh boy these casinos are really making money here the the the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported that in the month of April the casinos had the highest ever gaming win they won $1.24 billion 7% % increase Clark County itself won uh increased by 8.5% and that’s even with the Tropicana closing because the tropican is not uh not in business anymore 38th straight month that they’ve had uh winnings of over a billion dollars here in Las Vegas so people are coming out enjoying themselves and having fun that’s for sure Miami uh New York City it be 74 and then of course in Chicago 68° so we’re warming it up it’s BEC You know it’s getting into the summertime uh type of weather that’s for sure our really our thoughts and our concerns and our prayers really go out to the folks in Oklahoma Etc in the last I believe in the last several days and last week they’ve had over 50 tornado watches there they’re getting really crazy weather going on Oklahoma Texas Etc right down there so our thoughts go out to those folks there and of course as far as the racing is concerned around the country as far as today’s weather looks pretty good again right down in the uh square right there in the Midwest and of course the some of the plain states there’ll be a lot of action as far as uh uh rain Etc and those conditions for tornadoes and down in um Alabama and uh Mississippi little action going there and a little action right up east of and Northeast of New York but of course right now as you know there is a little bit of a respit between the end of the Belmont at Aqueduct meet that was on Monday Memorial day until we start racing with the U the 4-day uh Belmont racing Festival meet that of course will be the Belmont Stakes on Saturday June 8th so that 4-day uh Festival meet will be Thursday the 6th Friday the 7th June 8th of course Belmont Stakes day at Saratoga and the 9th as well and of course as you know since uh there was a debacle as far as the Pix six was concern on Monday closing day at Belmont at aqueduck they’ll carry over the carryover money in the pick six to the first day of the opening at the Saratoga 4day meet and that’ll be of course on Thursday June 6th which will be one week from today so we get that going and it’s uh it’s starting to really shape up to be a great 4-day meet there certainly a lot of stakes races including the Met mile you know we were you kind of we went right by uh Memorial Day and realized that hey the Met mile traditional traditional Memorial Day Stakes race at Belmont at aqueduck as well didn’t happen because now they put it on the Belmont Stakes weekend and so the Met mile is going to come up big as well as far as the Belmont Stakes is concerned um they think about 10 to 13 horses coming in there’s a few horses coming in and out including one of the uh the new Shooters uh batten down the big Maiden uh uh winner and uh you know very promising three-year-old under the out of the bill M Barn uh baton down was very much considered for the Belmont Stakes but now M says he’s going to take a baton down to the Ohio Derby and that’ll be on the 22nd of June so baton down goes to the Ohio Derby of course you know Todd Pletcher has fierceness the big failed favorite in the Kentucky Derby he’ll he’s getting ready to go into to the Bellmont Stakes as well as two other pler trained horses uh antiquarian antiquarian of course the Peter Pan winner and a uh upand cominging three-year-old protective so we’ll wait and see if those horses will join fierceness of course you have Sierra Leon beaten just a nose in the Kentucky Derby you have the Kentucky Derby winner Mystic Dan and of course door knock will be coming back a horse called mine frame which is a another promising three-year-old in in the field and sees the gray the winner of the PRN Stakes now sees the gray worked out yesterday at Churchill Downs went 1 minute 13 seconds flat for six furlongs Dwayne Lucas says the horse is eating up well and doing well he’ll be on its way to um Saratoga soon and as far as the handicap division know we haven’t heard about white aario in such a long time but white aario back on the workout tab white white aario uh went went fractions of 47.6 59.97 and [Music] the horsemen will be able to enter the uh the uh racetrack without paying an admission fee on the Friday and Sunday but not uh I mean on the on the Thursday and Sunday and not on the Friday and Saturday so we’ll wait and see about that in other news trainer David Jacobson got tagged by hea their welfare unit got 30 days and a f of $2,500 starting today for a uh violation for one of his sources and if you’re waiting to see a Pandora’s Box that’s about to get open no you don’t have to wait any longer Louisiana the state of Louisiana and the Louisiana horse racing uh folks there the agency there that that uh you know covers the Louisiana has uh has now I guess lifted certain provisions and certain restrictions for the uh the drug clenbuterol it’s now a more liberal clenbuterol regulation in Louisiana so stay tuned for a lot of stuff happening down there they have made a more liberal use of clenbuterol as far as the drugs that you can use for horse racing in the state of Louisiana and there has been a big backlash on X there’s been a lot of uh text a lot of messages on X about a backlash about what this might open up a Pandora’s Box as you will and Kent Doro he’s going to be riding at Gulf Stream Park this weekend and a lot of people think that they may that may be a Proving Ground to see if Kent DMO will be switching from Southern California to gstream park we’ll wait and see about that so some of the news in horse racing that’s for started let’s go to Jonathan Hardon standing by Jonathan good morning good morning Ralph how are you I’m doing fine my man it’s starting to get hot out here now it’s you know time to get the sun block on uh do a little pool time maybe in the afternoon but uh otherwise uh things are motoring along well of course we got the U the new Clen butol rule in Louisiana and we got another uh trainer they got tagged by heisa just another day in the world of uh horse racing with heisa and Drug rules yeah it’s pretty interesting that they’re going to stand up to heisa and they’re going to loosen the Clum buttero rule I don’t know that doesn’t sound promising to me I I would expect a lot of problems coming down the road uh Jonathan uh if you could and if you know explain what the drug clenbuterol does for horses supposedly it opens up their lungs and lets them take more air in it has something to do with opening the lungs I know that it it was uh outlawed actually in California there was a time when they let you work at with it John Lindo would obviously know more he was an owner there and when he comes on you could ask him but I’m sure that I know for a fact that it has to do with opening the lungs I know it was outlawed in California they uh there was a time when they let horses work out with it and they stopped doing that as well I obviously it must be some sort of you know bad drug for the horses I don’t know it obviously uh en enhances their their running style let them breathe you know that’s the key to horses yeah being able to let them breathe and open their lungs so I don’t know it’s uh I’m not a vet I don’t know anything about it but uh that’s what I’m led to understand well if that is indeed the case of course uh when you can take more um if you can breathe more and take more air into your lungs that produces uh your ability to to uh run faster and be less exhaustive doing it it’s got to help you would think so you know and if they’re looking to outl well then it probably really helps so we’re gonna find out Ralph and it’s going to be interesting you know who really has challenged hea so far with the exception of Texas you know for the most part everyone has really fallen in line however as time goes on and people really start to figure out that uh I’m not so sure what Heist is really doing to improve the game you know maybe more people and more tracks will will oppose them um but in this world in this game everyone basically does what’s best fors unfortunately and they don’t stick together well the thing about uh the uh that uh Clint butol thing in lisiana like you said in California one time you you could train on the the uh the drug but you have to make sure that you don’t administer any more of the drug like I think 72 yeah you have like two weeks out or something they can’t use it whatever I’m not sure exactly but there there was a time limit and uh you know I guess it was good to train horses on it it helped and uh then they took it but you couldn’t race on it you had to be off of it for a certain amount of time whether it be 10 10 days or two weeks whatever it was but now I think they totally outlawed it but I’m not sure well you know but Jonathan the thing is horses just like human beings your your body uh reacts uh differently to whatever dosage of drugs uh you know you take five people and they get the same doses of drugs and they’ll react differently as far as getting that drug through their system Etc and that was the case in California when a lot of guys got tagged for Clint butol they did stop in the amount of time they said but the hores system just kept more of it in them than normally so you you got to work with the each individual horse as well and you know you know there’s going to be violations you know with this new they have to find a happy medium you know Heist is G to too far to to one side you know that you can’t even give a horse like a aspirin supposedly between races now they’ve become so strict and horses are like any any other athlete you know after after a game you’re gonna have aches and pains and you’re gonna need something whatever it is Advil whatever aspirin just to help you know it’s not a it’s not a drug that’s going to enhance their racing it’s for their own for their own well-being and they’ve done away with that so it’s a mess Ralph it’s really a mess well the thing is you know they have tried and I guess that was the really the origination and the creation of heisa was to get a national um you know set of rules for everybody to follow as far as uh Drug Administration what drugs you can use and can’t use in races Etc I think that was what hea was all about and uh there’s just a lot of growing pains going on but when you take a state like Louisiana their racing board and says you know what uh the rules that we have now we going to make it more liberal and more LAX well now you’re you know just looking for trouble I think yeah I mean they’re they’re really telling hea to go take a flying hike or whatever you want to call it but listen the the idea of heo was certainly good they had it they had good intentions you know they wanted to to make everybody basically have the same rules and uh unfortunately it just didn’t work out not not only that the suspensions seem to be different for different people one guy gets caught with a metaphor and he’s suspended two years the next guy gets caught with it and he suspended 30 days so make up your mind I mean you know you have these rules you give these penalties they have to be the same for everybody doesn’t depend what your name is it has to be you did this you get this penalty you know you went 60 and a 50 mile an hour you’re going to get a penalty but everybody has to have the same penalty you can’t give different penalties to different people just not right I take that back folks we did get a soap box out of Jonathan today anyhow you know you talk about that you disagree with me Ral are you disagreeing with me no there are there are certain uh situations where you know a lot of times they say it was contamination so I mean we got to deal with that anyhow it’s like I said that I mean that’s it’s just an opinion by heisa and it’s a it’ll work out hopefully one way or the other it’ll work out and talking about that David Jacobson here’s a guy what a couple of weeks ago or about a month ago he had like a a multiple win day and now he’s a facing on Sunday about a month ago on a Sunday he won five races since then I think he’s won One race so all of a sudden you forget how to train I guess well uh all of a sudden he’s got to worry about uh thinking about that for 30 days as he sits in isa’s welfare unit tagged him that’s for sure didn’t read where he might be appealing that or or whatever but it’s it starts today anyhow so I think originally it was 60 days and they they lowed it to 30 days I I think I read that on X Twitter whatever you want to call it somewhere a few weeks ago but okay that’s what it is all right so the Belmont uh racing festival for the Belmont Stakes weekend at Saratoga starting to really come together a lot of great uh races up there and a lot of good horses going there to to compete in that that’s for sure uh your honor Marie is going to get a new jock by virtue of the regular writer nursing a broken collar bone Florent Gro good for you he’s fine I mean he’s written in plenty of big races he rides for Cox a lot first call so obviously he’s not he’s familiar with running in big races he’s won Breeders Cup races you know he was put up in the derby whatever so he certainly knows his way around by the way the weather is absolutely beautiful Unfortunately today is not next Thursday yeah because it would really be a terrific day there’s not uh no humidity it’s just absolutely gorgeous day and that’s what they need for those four days now Jonathan let me ask you this did you take a look at the 10day or two weeks out uh forecast is is you gonna hold that weather for another week and a half we hope so but up here the weather man is not very good to be honest with you all right well uh let’s get some and now we get to Churchill Downs and uh Jonathan nard oh yeah this is a this looks like a really good card of possibilities Jonathan where are we going we’re going to go to the sixth race at by Richie good morning hey good morning Ralphie good morning viewers good morning listeners beautiful day out isn’t it oh yeah absolutely gorgeous here uh however I heard you talking about the weather and we’re going to be reaching triple digits and once we get started with that as you all know it’s going to be like that for a few months out here yes and the the the big term during that time is AC air conditioning that’s for sure in any case Rich uh you and I did U uh work together for the first time years ago at uh at Garden State Park the New Garden State Park they call it the track of the 21st century but it never made to the 21st century but in any case we had the Jersey Derby there and it was a Cornerstone race that U influenced the Triple Crown to get off their Duff and put uh the purse money where it should be for Triple Crown Races we held the Jersey Derby which was a million dooll race with a $2 million bonus at that time of course spend a buck pulled it off and won it well now it’s run at Monmouth Park and now it’s the Jersey Derby is on the turf and not on the dirt and the purse for the Jersey Derby is only 100,000 but the jerseys Derby is still going on and it renews on Saturday at Monmouth Park and lo and behold Frankie Dori is going to be riding in the Jersey Derby on Saturday all right very good because in our era the uh key jockey for that Jersey Derby was lafit Pai Jr yeah who rode spendu to a $2.6 million payday and I still remember the episode Ralph when a week out from the race U pinky was flown in cross country from California to work the horse and then as soon as he worked the horse he jumped back on a plane went right back to San Anita and then rode the card there in Southern California that afternoon that was that was a lot of fun back then yeah I sure was that’s for sure but uh the Jersey Derby uh has a full field of nine in it and like I said Frankie Dori will be riding for Jonathan Thomas A Horse Called twirling Point uh but Chad Brown has a horse in the race move to gold and of course uh uh you know uh full field that it’ll be a lot of fun watching the Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park on Saturday well I guess all uh Dallas has to do is win tonight and they are going to be in the NBA Finals right yeah Dallas has a lead of three games to one against Minnesota and uh the game five tonight is in miniapolis and the line for the game Ralph is up right now up to minus five which happens to be the biggest point spread of the series so a lot of people think uh uh the timber wolves is going to be able to win game five and force a game six back in Dallas but uh um you know I’m I’m I’m going to sit there and watch because you know I’ve got a future book beted on the timber wol so I need a miracle um teams that are down 0 and three in the best of seven Series in the NBA I believe the record is5 to nothing in favor of the team that’s up three 0 it’s very difficult obviously to win four games in a row in the playoffs so but you’re going only win one game at a time so we’ll see what happens tonight longest uh longest journey starts with the first step that’s for sure uh now Richie of course your Southern California the Jersey Derby out at Monmouth Park coming up on the weekend this weekend we’ve got a lot of good stakes races going on we’ve got six of them six stakes races on Saturday at Churchill Downs four of them at grade threes um Evangel and DS will have six Louisiana Legends night races featuring the Louisiana breads for that six of those at evangelin Downs of course we talked about the Jersey Derby and San Anita will host a grade two and a grade three on Saturday and Woodbine will have four stakes races uh three grade threes and one grade two so we got we got a lot of good action going on this weekend uh from around the country as we wait for the following weekend and of course the big uh Belmont uh racing festival with the Belmont Stakes coming up a week from Saturday and of course always uh we’re just still basking in the uh the the card on Monday Memorial Day out at at uh San Anita during the Hollywood meet I know we don’t get ra Racing cards like that every day but it was sure fun to have it that day and hopefully they can put together a few more solid Racing cards like that we go now to John Lindo standing by in Southern California John good morning good morning Ralph how you doing today I’m doing fine man I gotta tell you we’re still uh we’re still uh having fun recalling Monday’s action at San Anita yeah it’s great when you get the good feels and the you know good quality horses and uh the conditions were perfect for racing we we’ll be good this weekend be a little warmer so we’ll be nice out there fast and firm and don’t expect the field sizes to be as robust though I I think we’ll pay a little bit for what we saw on Monday we used up a lot of those races that feel pretty easy now of course we’re coming to uh the end of the Hollywood Meek at San Anita and then we’ll be shifting over to Los Alamitos for the Los Angeles County Fair meeting they call it at Los Al there thoroughbread meet and then we’ll be pushing in to delmare where we get the spa to Spa stuff between delmare and Saratoga that’s a great time of year for horse racing that’s for sure and with the uh you know with the uh the uh uh the ship and win uh at um delmare and that uh program back in delmare looks like it’s going to have a lot of full Fields there I hope so you know uh that ship and win program has been very important we we saw that you know we’re dealing with a purse overpayment in Southern California so I was worried that they would not be able to implement that program again but it’s been okayed we will have that ship and wind program in effect at delmare so we’ve seen a couple of horses and we’ll see a couple Friday and Saturday that’ll come in from out of state they’ll get a start in at San Anita and that does not count against them for the ship and win at delmare so we’re already seeing some horses coming in to take advantage of that so it’s that’s a good thing uh John uh we see that Kent desero is going to be in Florida at Gulf dream park riding this weekend is that uh is he testing the waters out there you think that’s what I understand he’s got a couple mouths out there you one of his main clients Bob hes does have a stable down at gstream Park so that’s an automatic in for him down there as well and we he’s going to go down there ride talk to some of the owners and trainers and and work some horses down there over the weekend and he’ll make a decision as to whether he’s going to move his tack down there for the summertime uh it’ll be you know he’s been pretty quiet down here in Southern California this year so uh I I would not be surprised if he made makes a switch and uh we’ll find out and when I know something for sure and then I’ll let you guys all know uh now John of course uh it was a long drought from a last win but I think he cracked that on Monday with a win on the Memorial Day card didn’t he yeah he got one there a horse named come on man he got up in the last couple of the strides but you know I think he’s had five or six wins for the year W and so that’s you know and he’s not getting on that many horses so uh right now he needs to ride and uh you know stay busy so if the opportunities present themselves at gstream Park excuse me maybe that’s where he goes well he and Bob Hess have had a long relationship together they’ve done a lot of good together in Southern California that’s for sure but one does think that with all the other jockeys like flavian Pratt Frankie Dori and others uh leaving now to go to the east coast and maybe Saratoga Etc uh for their meats Etc that maybe it would have opened up a little bit for him but boy I got to tell you you got the you know for and uh R is really picking up the uh the slack aren’t they yeah they have uh you know Antonio fu is the leading Rider in Southern California right now and Juan Hernandez is just getting back to you know he did a little traveling here in the spring he’s getting back on a regular basis and he’s moving right up the standings Kyle Fry’s had a good meet uh so you know and we’ve seen the field sizes are relatively light Ralph if if the race if the fields are five deep and you’ve got top five Riders it’s hard for the other guys to pick up a little you know taste here and there absolutely that’s for sure and of course uh when delmare comes around you got some other jockeys that uh come down just to to ride at delmare because of the fact that not only that they ride at delmare for the purses and the field sizes but also something called the Pacific Ocean down there as well so yeah well the four- day weeks will help too yeah it sure does that’s for sure uh you did a Churchill Down sheet for today when uh the uh schedule in Southern California is abbreviated like it is most of the weeks you jump in on a Thursday and and do usually a a alternate Racetrack and the alternate track right now is the Churchill Downs meeting Churchill uh they’ve been had some solid racing down there and Jonathan Hardon said uh today’s racing card that starts in a Twilight uh time and certainly late afternoon our time at 2 o’ for eight races uh looks like a a darn good card of uh wagering and possibilities today yeah it’s just eight races but the field sizes are good and like with that 2:00 Pacific first post time it kind of falls into that category kind of when we would be playing Southern California tracks so I thought I would do that today and uh it’s I like it I like Travis Stone the announcer I think he’s terrific I do to an enjoyable broadcast and so I I play it I think Travis Stone has got to be if not the top announcer in the country right there in the top three there’s no doubt about it this guy is a great announcer and uh you’re right uh you know with the 2:00 post time it’s almost like we’re getting used to delmar’s first post time exactly we’re schooling for delmare yes all right well John uh you do have a Linda report it is available right now for today’s racing at Churchill Downs right Jose Ortiz has moved his base from New York to Kentucky and he settled right in he’s currently the leading Rider at Churchill Downs he’s got 18 winners Tyler gaffle leó who’s always amongst the top Riders at at Churchill he’s got 15 and Luis sees he rounds out the top three he’s got 13 winners as far as the trainers go Steve ason right where he usually is he’s right on top 15 wins Brad Cox and Mike maker tied for second with nine wins each and Greg Foley is having a good meet he’s got eight winners there so far at Churchill yeah Greg Foley is a local at uh in Kentucky that’s for sure one wonders if Ortiz gleon and Siz will be moving over to Ellis Park when that goes through the summertime months uh after Churchill is over now owned by Churchill Downs they they’re really doing a lot of work there at Ellis Park one wonders if that uh those guys will stay on that Colony or maybe move to places like Saratoga Etc I’m guessing that you know Jose would probably go to Saratoga we’ll see I think Tyler usually goes there in the summertime and so does say is so with all those good two-year olds that debut at Saratoga in the summertime I don’t think those those jocks want to miss a chance to maybe catch a top young horse so I would expect them to go to New York for the summer how the favorites doing there at Churchill favorites are right at 31% so a little below normal route there’s some value to be had at Churchill DS well okay any any kind of uh any kind of biases that go on on the racetrack that you’ve noticed at Churchill either on the main track or the turf course when the weather conditions are fine and I assume they are today the the main track’s been very fair you can go inside outside you can come from off the pace on the main track they were off the turf on Monday so I don’t have a read on that the weather’s good today from what I understand so we should be in in good shape there in general I think you just have to try and find the best horse and adjust if you see a track bias pop up okay well uh John we’ll take a pick at Churchill Downs today let’s go to race number three in the third race today number two Phantom ride was missed the break last time and didn’t run a jump but that was on a wet track you look at his wet track record and it’s awful so he just hates any kind of moisture he gets back on dry land today drops him for a claiming tag Keith asmos picks up the mount again for his dad Steve ASM I think he’s well spotted and you get a dirtied up form off that last race five to one on the pro program number three Phantom ride at Churchill philosophy about making money out of each race uh you know each race race by race Etc uh let’s see do we have Jerry back Jerry do you can you hear us Jerry I well I don’t know how to get a hold of enough time but with all the technical problems I think we’re going to cut you short again you got about two minutes to explain uh followup on the pick three pick five pick four philosophy that you have that you’d rather play a race individually than go into those pools yeah absolutely Ralph I mean um you know you go through nine races in a card and you know maybe you have uh two three really good ideas and uh when you get to that race you have to make a decision whether the ideas that you like that you think are you know really handic capable are um are value if they’re not value sort of stuck again you can’t you can’t go play I mean you’re not going to go out and buy a um well my my my $20,000 car and spend 40,000 for it right buy a $20,000 car and hopefully spend 18 or 177,000 my question to my question whatever you’re trying to do in life it’s it’s a value driven proposition all right my question you have your good ideas one two three four in a day that’s a nice day and then you get to each situation you have to make a judgment on it and when you have value you have to suck the value out right there you got to really go after it and so my question suggest yeah my question to you then Jerry is this um when people are looking at pick threes pick fours pick fives Etc and want to get into that uh would you you wouldn’t suggest taking a lot of your bankroll to cover those races you you think that it is like almost a secondary play maybe two or four do that’s about it something really if you’re $100 bet if you have like two bets a day you’re betting $40 $50 a position yeah and you got an extra $20 you I guess you can throw that around on stuff I’d rather throw the the the small money around on a pick six if I’m going to get lucky I want to get lucky for something really serious look it’s really simple and this has been known for years but people don’t understand it pick 3es have sort of a positive expectation and the reason they do it is they’re damn hard to get enough with enough frequency to make money same thing in the stock market or anything else when they’re giving you really what looks like too much money they’re telling you you’re GNA have a hard time getting it okay so um you know the play is exact as in trifect is I’m you know I’m doing this for 45 years I’m trained by the very best that ever lived Richie Schwarz Arie fatel Carrie fius these are the people I I came up with and I can tell you that Arie fatel I once said to him why go make a uh try uh pick three and he said to me the next time I make a pick three you I’ll be dead that was his words to me Ary fatel bet $50,000 a day okay these are the greatest handicappers around they laugh at people who play pick threes and pick fours all right enough said they literally laugh at them and they have all the money in their pocket so go figure it out all right enough said on that we get the point that’s for sure from I hope he’s still alive by the way and still not no no he’s gone okay he’s been making a lot of pick threes for plenty of years all right you got it my man in any case sorry we had some technical difficulties but nevertheless we’ll be back tomorrow on Friday and so
