all right let’s bring in Brady Cannon of course and uh Brady does a great job covering golf for us as well as his columns uh not great information last week here on the show um you know no question but I mean Brady we you know tough place to start I gotta be honest with you I didn’t think that we’d be doing this to start our a little chat here about Grayson Murray uh you know played in the tournament last week and ended up pulling out uh according to reports here he committed suicide 30 years old my gosh like this completely shook up the the PGA Tour and I got to tell you it’s just it just shows you just mental health so how important that is for people and hopefully uh something can be learned from this because naturally to see the players and the broadcasters breaking down after having to announce this was not something that I I thought I’d be looking at this weekend yeah no an awful story a tragedy and and a loss of a guy that was really on the upswing of his life you know he won uh just earlier in January at the Sony Open and talked extensively after that Victory how he had had struggles with alcohol and mental health and depression and anxiety and felt that he was really turning the corner he had been sober for about a year and a lot of people had just been with him recently before his passing and said he looked great and seemed great so you know it’s weird it looked like this guy had you know gotten past a lot of his demons but apparently not um and I I think it just goes to show I I think we can kind of take a positive as hard as it is to do I think we have to in our actions you know Turn the Page and pay more attention like you say to mental health and and realize that we just really never know what people have going on in their lives so be more compassionate you know feel free to to say a kind word uh unprovoked and uh you know I think that can help people going forward and and I think these type of things you know shed more light on these issues and I hope and I believe that you know it can be turned into a positive I I obviously the PGA Tour already has uh you know things in place where guys can go get counseling and and talk to people and whatnot on the site of tour events and this will probably only escalate those type of services so you know sometimes you have to go through tragedy to progress and and I hope that that’s what’s going to happen here it’s it’s awful for his family and and you know I thought they handled it really well they came out and they said what happened and they said he would want the tournament to go on and you know I think they’re taking a real positive approach to this as well and trying to turn things the other direction in light of what their son was struggling with yeah really really tough you know to watch the interviews from the tour players a really really horrific scene unfortunately but you know hopefully a positive comes out of this with mental health in the future meanwhile a positive on the course Davis Riley who I mean honestly I didn’t hear anybody discuss him last week going into this tournament he picks up his first individual Victory on the PGA tour Scotty Sheffer came on strong in the end not strong enough is this a contender for another tournament or is this a a one-off you think for Davis Riley Brady well he’s a pretty good player you know he he won the team event the Zurich Classic last year he lost in a playoff to Sam Burns at the valpar uh he’s always kind of been a guy on the radar that’s an upand Comer uh from what I understand he may have been struggling with some nagging injuries earlier this year he’s not a total surprise but he was this week you know he was in the neighborhood of 250 or as high as 400 to one I know at bmgm they did not have a single ticket on him to win uh the Westgate and the Circa books out here in Las Vegas had just you know I think Westgate had one ticket on him at about 20 bucks or so and very small bets uh at Circa as well so yeah like you said Craig nobody was really on this guy uh the books won pretty good with him getting to the winner circle also having a lot of exposure on Scotty Sher so it was a good week for the books um but yeah you know he’s he’s you know you you have your elite players then you kind of have your B tier I think he’s probably a B minus you know and now certainly in that B minus category a guy we’ve had expectations for and maybe this vaults him to bigger and better things going forward all right so we go from there to the RBC Canadian open uh not the biggest field not the strongest field I probably should say this week Brady with Rory and everybody else I mean if if Rory doesn’t win my gosh someone’s gonna cash in big this week any sort of inkling as to which direction you’re going to end up going this week with some of these guys because again when you get like one big player and the rest of the field is just sort of up in the air it does portend to some potential big long shots this week right and and I am uh working on a couple I I looked at Sheamus power at 105 to one uh you know he makes some sense to me I’m going to basically try and beat Rory and and eliminate him and see if I can find somebody else I I landed on a couple of shorter shots Alex noren and sahith theala you know a couple of the Marquee players in this field that make a lot of sense to me and then I went with Aaron Ry who’s done very well here in the past at 42 to1 so you know I’m I’m going to leave Rory out there he’s won two Canadian opens recently and he won the last one played at this golf course this is Hamilton golf and country club in uh Hamilton Ontario they played the Canadian open here last in 2019 and Rory won that one going away so you know it would make sense and he’s a hot player right now he’s been playing very well but I’m going to try and find something other than him then you know just one golfer at four to one I’m going to probably play a handful anywhere from 20 to 100 some to one and see if I can find a winner this event is really gaining some momentum with the thrilling finish last year Nick Taylor holding a 72 foot Eagle Putt in a playoff to become the first Canadian to win the Canadian open in 59 years and we go on a nice run here Craig the memorial up next and then the US Open so this is the beginning of some real good golf going forward for the next few weeks yeah it should be fun US Open in June and British Open later of course in the summer as well all right we’ll keep an eye on some of that I know morawa did not win this past week but really great call by you finished top five uh it didn’t look like it by know he was the only guy he was the only guy to shoot all four rounds in the 60s but didn’t win finished fourth but yeah the guy’s playing really well right now yeah he is yeah really good call by you again all right Brady have a great rest of your week and again we’ll chat again next week ahead of the next Memorial Tournament thanks again
