[Music] play for the home crowd that was like the biggest goal is just perform for them more than anything else more than for myself I’ve never felt more controlled in like a nervous state in that moment like I felt a ton of nerves in the past and that just felt a little more focused and a little more like something was about to happen and was possible for me I’m I’m obviously a handful of Strokes plus back and so I think that that’s an opportunity I look at it as an opportunity as a competitor you know I think they call me raincoat Rick for for a reason so I’ll break out the the raincoat I’m going to go to work I don’t want to play in the boring rain I don’t know if anyone really does but I think it actually does give me a better chance at you know coming back possibly like I think when you have really bad weather you know there’s a greater probability of like those huge scoring swings don’t choke it away uh I think tomorrow it’s going to be bad weather so the I’ve been telling self just anything but dumb [Music] Bogies but obviously I think back to Texas States this year I was eight Strokes behind AB going to the final round and only lost by one so it’s still very capable to make make those strs up for other people considering there’s a lot of people that are you know kind of in that second to fifth area that are you know they’re all close and they’re all killers [Music] [Music] [Applause] hello and welcome to final round coverage from the 2024 Portland open presented by latitude 64 the storm has come in perhaps not as bad as we feared and you’re watching Joz Pro Nate ston Jeremy coing Paul yeah you’re right I think we were um we were expecting just crazy torrential downpour but it was pretty much just a light sprinkle to a heavy sprinkle for most of the day um it rained at points for sure but it’s just kind of chilly just kind of always wet everywhere you go and it just slows down the course slows down scoring and it’s going to have to be a high scoring day for anyone if they want to catch the man who is up ahead by 10 shots over Cole ralin the Oregon favorite national tour winner last year at the ledgestone just gets a tremendous amount of love when he’s in these parts Ricky Waki one of the scariest players you can have on your tail trying to track down and Ricky has been known as raincoat Ricky in the past because of his prowess when he’s putting on the raincoat dodging the inclement weather some of his best rounds have been played in the rain and wind and Calvin heimberg playing on his birthday today folks what a crazy story that would be to come back I think they are all tied uh for 10 being 10 back I think they’re all at 19 under and Cole I mean Ganon is at 29 well we’ve seen this hole already one time and this is a par for 670 ft clear the green on the left cover the bunker that’s probably about 340 feet out of bounds deep right around the same distance if you just go straight and then you got to come probably tough for him to find pants tell me that those are some long legs right there ooh and it’s not a not a big waste size let’s be honest oh boy that was that’ll work though anle but yeah he’d here braving the weather as well at least a couple thousand people I think showing off the nice Cut few of us got nice Cuts this week from Crown Town Barber Shop yes shout out not the best day to not be wearing a hat either so we got bynam no pants no hat out of Scottdale Arizona two time world champion Ricky Yaki raki and Paul McBeth are both sitting on 13year Long streaks with at least one win in a Elite Series or major wow neither one of them having a tile yet this season ooh little heavy on the heer finds the same and last to T for your lead card out of Safety Harbor Florida throwing into the champion plastic Make some noise for Calvin heberg said ganon’s at 29 under Calvin’s at 29 years old today so that’s pretty cool happy birthday difference between Calvin and Ganon 10 years same difference between Ganon and a 9-year-old thirdd [Laughter] grader and 10 years between you so fun stats fun stats little Flex miss the branches that should be fine about 350 on that approach for Ganon leaves it about as short as he did yesterday but just a little bit flatter 350 in these conditions plays about 380 tough to get the disc to go far any call there I don’t think any foot faults were called that’s pretty generous because I believe he did step on the disc before the disc was thrown unfortunately for Rick he’s on the up slope of the sand which shouldn’t cause him near the trouble that we saw yesterday with Isaac and Yona on whole five heavy on the Hiser though looked like the footing was plenty firm for there didn’t have to slop around too much and that does carry forward pretty good bunch of people trying to just save par it’s very good yeah we’ve got Cole and Ganon putting for birdie mhm it’s a scary putt to run wow oh that’s that’s a good way to start your own talk about momentum look at this one catches that right side give me that sweet what a bonus get after that approach came up that short 19 years old both Cole and ganet very similar to the par or the birdie Miss yesterday for Ganon with that par Ricky will fall to a tie for third place now with Calvin as he comes up to tap in his par Cole will take solo second oh Calvin’s umbrella blown away I think obviously pretty clear what Ganon has to do you heard him say he needs to avoid dumb Bogies the way I think about it just to kind of put some numbers to it you figur 10 under is a hot round yesterday the the course record for this specific layout that we’re playing today the conditions are obviously worse he has a 10 shot lead so you got to think two under is a guaranteed win M yeah I mean so then you need you’re talking about somebody needing 13 in the rain like it doesn’t have to be pretty today for goes too under it does not need to be pretty for Ganon bir today it just needs to be controlled and calm and that’s and and to do anything more you know that’s if you’re feeling it if you’re if everything’s going right but it’s not required at all and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him okay with laying back in a couple situations see how he plays it well that’s one way of looking at it because I think certainly the first and foremost goal is to win Cole going with the wide forehand he going be pushing That Sidewalk with the counter skip that was an awful skip I’m I’m surprised people elect to do the wide line the other side of that argument Nate is history is on the line the largest win ever for a disc golf pro tour was Paul MC Beth by 12 Strokes I guess I guess at my my response to that is kind of who cares you know you do that by accident you break that record by accident you try to win tournaments yes and you see and but I don’t think anyone is hunting that record on purpose what a shot great shot there from Ricky and I don’t know he might be but that’s my opinion I just don’t think he’s ever going to be like oh man if I just pound in the the dagger on him here and run this 50-footer at OB I could win by 12 you know I think he first and foremost he wants those points he wants Elite plus oh man really finds the sand tough start for Calvin finding OB shots on the first two throws off the T or this round specifically but yeah that’s going to be a bogey for Cole and Ricky is parked for birdie I I think I think Ganon is certainly more towards the let’s just lock down the wind thing but I don’t think he has any oh great effort from Calvin I don’t think he has any issue with trying to do something historic sure and I think that his game plan isn’t to be safe or timid I think he wants to play four rounds of disc golf yes I agree I guess what I’m really saying is it’s going to take a whole lot for me to push that pain button oh you know he’s built he’s built himself such a lead I’m trying to say basically that that low putt is not it doesn’t matter and I think that’s somewhat obvious mhm but yeah we’ll see I think that’s a cool storyline to watch certainly that he could easily potentially have the biggest margin of Victory ever and I think the most amazing thing about that is when MC Beth was doing it it was incredible and then this next era kind of came and all of us were saying well we’ll never see that again will we the it the player there’s too many players no one’s ever going to dominate like MC Beth did right no one it’s not possible anymore no one will ever do what climo did right and then here’s MC Beth kind of almost doing it and then we get in that next are it’s not no way there’ll ever be anybody that good mhm and then in strides Ganon Burr and just sets the world on fire on super hard course so I think that kind of thing is is going to be fun to watch Paul looked at me a second ago when I said 12 shots was the largest win for a disc golf pro Tour event that is the largest dis Golf Pro Tour event win in the mo division um K clima won by 18 at Worlds in ’94 in Port Arthur so there’s been bigger wins in Elite Series and Majors it’s just been a really long time and it wasn’t on the disc golf pro tour you remember what event it was that he won by 12 I gosh we said it earlier on the coverage I I think it might have been LED I think it might be a master’s cup or something or there was a master’s cup he won it by a ton I remember that one but that wasn’t a that was a national tour okay still an Elite series that was a great forehand by Ricky and he kind of walked back to the te with a smile on his face I don’t think he hit the exact intended line but he is left with a very short putt to go birdie birdie on two and three this has a chance to get through very nice yes I also think with course designers trying to make these courses harder and harder and harder we’re going to see bigger and bigger margins of Victory as we as we move forward certainly chances to pick up Strokes when there are that many hes that fall in that bonus birdie category but again but on the other side of that coin hard to string together birdies yes H so that was pretty interesting I don’t I’m not going to call that a layup but it sure looked like one I mean I don’t think it was intentional oh he liked it for a second I did too I did too I was not worried about low there kind of need this one it’s really slow start for Calvin I can’t imagine somebody winning Worlds by 18 shots that’s kind of blowing my mind pretty SI but of course back then they were playing like 10 Rounds or 12 rounds or something a lot of rounds for bu there was not a good Putt in the bunch there not pretty one Koozie and three cages you can see that wind kind of blowing one thing I think that gets overlooked too is when it’s raining like this pry bags don’t feel the same your disc doesn’t feel the same putting becomes extra difficult because the texture in your hand mhm is way different and I was talking that with my group today how it was just like feels foreign sure still nine shots ahead of the field yeah sure whole four par 3 450 ft big roller is a popular option but it might be tough with the wet grass today see if people get more interested in the up the- middle shot or the big turnover I got to think Ricky potentially has the forehand to get this done if he wants to go to it but it’s going to take everything he’s got in the tank I think to get it 460 ft I think if Ganon goes sidearm we know where his head’s at yeah that makes a lot of sense Ricky we know where his head’s at he’s going full roller great play get around there this is going to be really good guys wow okay never mind oh but behind the big tree honestly really a tough spot to putt from but not worried about the wet grass much that looked like it had plenty of spe speed and this is Roller let’s see how much angle he puts on it uhhuh yeah see that’s a safe shot right there C it’s going to cost him yeah oh out of bounds early and the slow start more than likely you’re going to see Ganon Burr at one over through four just like he was yesterday yeah pulled that inside trying to stay away from the OB perhaps ends up taking all the speed off the disc I like the look of this one if it can get around that tree or in front yep that’s very good well 45 footer 2016 ledstone Insurance open MC Beth won by 12 shots over kale Leisa at a 1081 rated round and an 1105 rated final round that generally will get it done even need to do it like that but he did it look at Calvin avoiding roller going air shot into C two Calvin not a big roller thrower generally he’ll lay him down if he needs to he’s just so good with the air shots oh fortunate to kick forward well he’s going to have a putt from 30 feet plus for a bogey though sure Calvin low again unfortunately coal from 45 perfect right in the [Applause] middle that looks so good yeah yeah wow tough St got to go horseshoes oh man I like that shows that Ricky can’t even see the basket really good tough place to be really good effort you can see him in the background shaking his head frustrated to not be able to step through that door and take two shots off the leader and he put it right on the pole just inches too high it was a great bid yeah I guarantee he thought he made it the whole time that was a good bogey save there for Ganon just really made that putt with some [Music] conviction nobody really setting the course on fire it’s pretty it’s pretty slow so far 200 under I think the best score on your screen right there this hole 9910 ft not the hole Ganon wants to as you’re on a little par par par bogey setting here lots of trouble out of bounds bunkers if you choose to lay it up short left this is a Long Carry to clear this Pawn onto a steep hill with ob right behind it lots of things can go wrong on this green little Par Four wet conditions you’re going to see these guys I think try to go left that’s the pro play Get It On Heiser go left of the bunkers it opens up the green and then they can pretty much choose whatever this they want that’s what you’re looking for right there for if you’re a Col R Doan type yep I mean that’s going to be pretty far in there that’s going to be over I would say 450 to the hole that far yeah it’s far to right where the bunkers are straight ahead is about 420 straight to the hole so anything left of that it’s didn’t realize it was that far but it’s also playing a little bit downhill from that spot still to the pin yeah I thought that these guys were in the 375 to 400 range that’s that’s a significantly different shot well once you get over the green that you see right there then it’s back down the hill to where the hill is is this clearing the sand yes kind of not even close to that that was a really good shot a little more direct I think he got a lot more distance oh that caused Isaac problems yesterday with a different wind to left to right uh Tailwind really pushing those drives long and straight today it’s a well this needs to we saw Yona take on those bunkers with a Hiser flip oh yeah yeah that was little too close for comfort but now he’s I think he’s in the best position as far as distance goes look at Ricky pulling out forehand four 30 maybe no it’s farther really it’s farther I’m telling you see he barely clears yeah but that was all flat flat and Hiser how far do you think that shot went where the bunkers are over there yeah is 400 I’m hearing you that’s that’s crazy far Cole just such a beautiful straight shot that has a little fade at the end of it see that’s a fast driver from Cole sure got to Flat sure this is a putter which is kind of crazy to me I can’t buy that that’s 400 ft right there I landed there so jeez that’s that’s crazy to me somebody might have given you a bad number it’s possible I did go a little deep that’s the butt [Applause] all four players in bounds after two this one from 55 dude I landed there oh those whiskers are wrong that’s 55 ft Cole putt he is looking good on the greens he is couple just barely low and just like yesterday too he had so many long runs from 50 ft just hit the bottom of the band or the top of the cage that were just nearly in from all range jeez and Ganon will be tapping in his first birdie of the round and we’re going to have I think the first starf frame that we’ve seen since whole four round two and whole four round one I can’t think of any other star frame in this whole tournament wow what a memory taking a look at Nicholas antila on hole six the hole that our leaders are about to play commits to that anheiser can it get back not quite just a little higher would have done the trick for him yeah he knows it watch this yeah there’s no jump Hut from ncla it’s just all risty send oh man it’s a long run yeah he’s he was running that’s like a quarter mile I ranged it I ranged it that’s it’s under a quarter mile but not by much I shared the story this morning on about how he got into your cold pool and he said I’m no Finn I’m not Finn I’m not Finn and he jumped right back out and ran into the song I am not well you guys saw how to play this one 415 down the hill Flex Shot make a little 90f footer no problem you’re going to want it to flex back though get into the circle somewhere around those trees there are some nice Guardians there that keep you honest pin high 30 ft is where you see typically everybody land that’s a good drive this hole is a certified toughy I mean it you have to do a lot of things right to get a birdie on this hole one of the more challenging gaps that is that big the Gap looks so huge well you got to throw it pretty hard pretty low it’s not a shot shape that you’re like seeing on the tour with any kind of regularity and it forces you to do it there’s no other way you know there’s no other like you could you could really thin a drive like a Hiser flip down there but that makes it the tightest tunnel on the planet look on the left side of your screen I’ve fit a few forehands on that left side yeah there’s room over there I came up a good 70 short but I fit a beforehand through that Gap it is downhill 415 so you threw it 330 ft I I was Kidd I got it pretty close I I was calling you y out there I didn’t want to make it seem like I did something super cool this should be cool get back and Skip not quite shout out to the people who decided Brave the weather and watch some good disc golf big old galleries out there I’d say you know we we oregonians pride ourselves on being unbothered by the rain right trying to get out there and do it anyway so I think uh I’m not surprised W bothered by the rain we would be a sad Bunch oh my God I love orig oregonians but if you guys were kogy about the rain you’d be some awful people I don’t think Cole’s going to like his approach he he flipped his uh approach up Calvin again just stop it with the cage stuff a great effort from back there just so close frustration setting in for Ganon you know we a great another good put we were talking about how G Canon very favorite to win this tournament mhm round one round two with his prowess from Circle two he hasn’t made any from Circle two the last few rounds he’s just been he’s just been darting Circle one yeah and caging so many Circle twos imagine if he did connect from Circle 2 he’d be up by King climo that yeah that keeping you right early and then left at the later mandatory making sure you can’t take any sneaky way you got to go straight up that hill under the low ceiling hard to get all the way to the top you can almost never see the basket when you’re throwing your second shot so you really have to have those slow feet and a quick pull through to get enough power on the Heiser as a righty to try to reach this green and if you’re feeling good about it you can lay down a roller which is what we saw yesterday from Drew Gibson let me tell you what guys this one was playing tough today Cole that was probably 5et higher than we wanted I think that that is thrown any lower I think he’s hitting the low ceiling I think he may have cleared a limb oh yeah that was a bit lucky oh yeah what a counter skip just get out of the mud oh boy is that mud well it’s slick is it not you were on the course no oh okay it’s just that brown grass I just got that uh uhoh uh oh that oh lovely was very nice I got to think that saved him without question it’s chippies it’s chippies and they’re not slick I mean everything’s slick but not it’s not slicker than the grass though grass is really slippery when it’s wet all right I guess I’ll it’s not just pure mud see that right there yeah on the flyover that I saw earlier it looked like there was one place where the water was reflecting like it was just plain dirt and like mud so I figured uphill mud stay away oh goodness always he worried about his ankles but I I I don’t think you have to he I think he has like the strongest ankles yeah he I don’t never heard a complaint one time from Calvin heimberg about his ankles hurting see that too much grip it looked like yeah he did kind of get caught in the ground well great place to throw his drive then yeah I don’t know where he ended up looked like Circle Edge maybe closer yeah somewhere out there in C2 world I believe this is a good illustration of just how hard this second shot is Cole’s in a great spot he delivers a Heiser but kind of awkwardly thanks to the uphill and it just very often stays out there on that right side you can’t really bring it back as far left as you’d like little different angle to approach for Ganon and that needs to slow down still going to be fantastic edge of circle yeah just outside Calvin still with some work to do oh get stable yeah nicely done doesn’t leave too many on the table does he [Music] hurry looked wide out of the hand stayed wide to the ground man the but is so good right now that is five solid putts through seven holes yeah look at this one out wide slows down catch Me Softly a little stepper there for Ganon he has his second birdie of the round and has finally hit the 30 under Mark yeah to that one under Mark which is uh one stroke away from Victory according to Nate’s statistics yeah as long as he can stay away from those [Music] Bogies and to be clear I don’t think he needs even close to that much based on the way the course is playing right now but to guarantee things let’s go ahead and take a two under I think a two over is probably going to get it done to be honest with you I I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of seeing Ricky struggle to pick up his discs or his minis or take his disc out of the basket those three things he is genuinely one of the worst in the world at and it is delightful it’s awesome seeing people who are better than you at the thing you love most everything do something poorly it is if they’re better than you if they’re better than you at the thing you love most and they’re bad at something that’s fun to see I’m with you whole eight Par 3 500 down the hill I think and just pop a little turn on it with your most overstable disc hang it out over by that out of bounds knowing nothing ever bad’s going to happen swing it back miss the big tree skip right in the basket ESPN right at 10:00 Eastern Time nice shout out to anaka Sten for getting top three on the top 10 yesterday with her Ace on whole 16 during round three love that Cole’s just thinking about putting it anywhere in inside 55 ft that is so much aneis and it could go in the hole it could I think it good don’t hit that oh strikes the tree and man I tell you that thing was on a line he really did throw his most overstable disc that was wild that was a beautiful Line This is ganon’s Best [Music] Shot gets down below hits the poor tree Cuts all kinds of stuff off that’s poor it’s amazing that that shot was too high I know he’s just throwing it straight down and it’s still just got to get lower again certainly certainly the advantage of Cole’s line getting outside those branches I think Rick’s going to need a little bit of good fortune that’s pretty good fortune yeah it didn’t hit anything too solid that line was not nearly as good as Ganon yet he’s 15 ft closer to the basket that’s smacked too far yeah it’s probably going to need to hurry up and get back in bounds there’s no way this guy can can throw a shot like that and not go past this basket I think there’s there’s something to be said for that cuz I don’t think of Calvin as an Annie delivery guy he’s going to hit it flat and turn it out there but by the time you do that I think you’re dead on by the time you do that the speed that it takes to turn it yep it’s not getting home in time speeding up speaking of getting home oh oh he thought I saw the lean oh it looked good another I had a good feeling about that one decent effort just not finding the basket again that one just never really activated the Hiser just stayed right the whole time can he do it again oh oh he thought he had it I thought he had it you thought he had it uh-huh and if the putt on three goes in and the putt on eight then we’re looking at seven putts from yeah edge of circle to 50 ft that are in in the first eight holes like greatest ever and they’re all they were all so three and eight were so close I do think that if he makes that putt there we’re looking at the best putted front n of any time of any recent memory like I can’t think of anyone who’s had a but they didn’t go in so it’s just a really great performance yeah Nicholas antila on the hole that we just witnessed yeah that’s uh that’s the line right there folks oh man oh yeah that’s the line right there folks perfect not many players getting a bullseye in whole eight only six birdies on the day out of the 40 six players who’s that how’d you guys find this this we didn’t show this on live oh this is whole 16 never mind we did see this I thought they were showing whole eight but I did see that you birdied whole eight Paul Oh I thought that’s what we were showing here this is 16 though yes oh yeah yes we did show some live garbage left side a good putt also in the end and that gets you to 4 under three under did you didn’t have any Bogies that’s total no I’m just giving myself crap it’s all good why would you do that you’re playing great T10 T10 I’m I’m I’m coming in fire Emoji for the moment first time ever fire Emoji for the moment that is no small beat Yes actually hot Paul actually wears really small shoes it is small feet but he is playing really well it’s he’s doing very well oh yeah a dum joke I do okay I didn’t get it at first but now I do yeah it’s a dumb joke whole nine par 4 645 downhill to start and then back up mandatory on that right side OB everywhere real sneaky basket position Isaac Robinson I think maybe the only guy who knows exactly where it is sorcerer everybody else just kind of throwing it up there Isaac Robinson just started off with a perfect well very much like that Isaac’s Tri was so good it was J we’re going to take this hole from now on you just let us go yeah no I’m I’m good call you guys go ahead and eat you’ve been talking a lot this week bud that’s what the comments always say regardless if I did live or not put your feet up great drive on the left side there for Ganon the Flex Shot Ricky I I haven’t seen this play but I guess I like it yeah I never really thought about the forehand play to go the right side and in years past we were going Flex forehand down the left side but uh that opens up a completely different shot from over there J yeah you guys keep going it’s okay yeah it’s fine it’s hard to do though you know oh early release Turn get through it kick in a good spot perfect yeah all good I like a forehand basically up the middle on this hole and I think out to the right is also a great option what we saw from Rick opens the angle up Calvin this one’s playing deep this get past the bushies yeah sneaks under oh yeah looking at the [Applause] basket Rick Ricky very unconventional way to play the hole but I bet he makes it work yes yeah he’s gonna he could be okay sidearm sidearm fantastic that’s awesome Canon going mid-range we know what happens when people throw mid-range oh yeah no honestly pretty close pretty close to the same thing germ literally shaking right now I’m impressed with what he’s doing Cole with a buttery smooth little turnover very good I like that play too I’m getting antsy guys oh there he is do it here comes Calvin man got to make it can’t do it just low and
