it’s getting serious in Southeast Asia we’ve reached the quarterfinals in the Singapore open an event that’s already provided high drama and some serious shocks welcome to the most famous city St on the planet as we continue the compelling story you will not want to miss a shot 10 matches for you live on our TV show courau today that is the HSBC World Tour finals trophy the top eight in all five disciplines we’ll be playing for those things in December in hongcho China and we of course will be there to cover it here’s our lineup today on court one starting with the mixed four seed SE and Shay favorites against and toe they’ve won the last two against the Malaysians then we switch to singles and the 32nd meeting between two former world number ones Yamaguchi and Olympic champion Chen have been battling each other for a decade women’s doubles to follow six seeds Kim and Kong looking to reach their first final this year against Indian 21y olds Jolly andella then a chance to assess the form of world number one an Yung less than 2 months before the Olympics Japanese nazomi okahara is in the firing line men’s doubles next as two unseeded pairs by for a place in the semis one win a piece so far between he and Ren and go and five more matches to follow after that including the men’s number one seed and the reigning Olympic champion Victor axelon and that last match might be fun as well Loki andu and Lee She Fang we’re also on court 2 today but we are starting here on our show court with the mixed and it’s the second match in that draw that you can see there that we’re concentrating on the prize if you can call it that for the winners a likely meeting with top seeds Jen and Wang in the semi-finals [Music] tomorrow welcome inside the Singapore indor Stadium as you can see players are on their way for this first match mix doubles and it’s a Korean Malaysian encounter so and CH the number four seeds against Chen and toe from Malaysia my name is TR Harris alongside me delighted to have Steam pison and one of the things about this tournament so far we’ve had so many matches that have gone three games because of the extreme drift in the arena and that makes things a little more unpredictable very unpredictable um and um yeah all things um speak for more three- game matches in the quarterfinals today on top two women bu and this is the fourth meeting between these uh two pairs 2-1 currently in SE and ch’s favor and they have critically won the last two most recently that match you can see there semi-final it was of theore Masters last November this is in straight games R for you black for you black you want to TOS what are you chire two of until they eventually decided to choose that end an intriguing opening to quarterfinals today this one SE and CH have been as high as two in the world that was only few months ago former world champion both mix doubles and men’s doubles that’s just last year that’s why he won the male player of the year for 2023 quarter finalist in the mixed in Tokyo the last Olympics so clearly wanting to go a little better in Paris in a couple of months timeing jge this PA got to the final of the French Open in March came out on the wrong end on that day but they have won six World Tour titles in the last six years including big one last year they won the Super 1000 China open if you’re with us yesterday you’ll have seen uh that match in the second round against the Japanese pair of EO in mexo it was uh well an unconvincing win I think you could say took more than an hour and three games but they’ve gone over the line in the decider just have a feeling they might have to step up today though because Chen and Tow who were also on our court one coverage yesterday were pretty impressive in their second round inside the world’s top 10 bronze at the junior World Championships back in 201 18 and last year was a big year for CH they won their first Super 300 titles one in on on in France the onal Masters also won the taipe open as well Terry W was really good yesterday particularly at the net there is that match I was talking about took just 40 minutes toose of Christensen and and Bo the Danish pair who are actually ranked only one place below them so that was an impressive performance who and Chen went the same way in the first round in even shorter time D from Singapore is our chair player and the familiar face of Evo castle of Switzerland is the service judge for this one [Applause] [Music] we’ve had good crowds all week in soua bearing in mind it’s still obviously work day here on Friday just gone noon in Singapore think we will have massive crouts tomorrow and particularly on Sunday for the five finals [Applause] always wonder why they don’t sort their shoelaces out before they come on to court sound like my I noticed that I noticed that toy Wei that was like a kilometer of shoelace on those shoes there it’s it’s called Towing the line yeah yeah you don’t want any silly injuries seven weeks uh before the Olympic Games that is for sure seen all kinds of scrapping on various parts of players Anatomy this week sure we’ll see that again in Indonesia we have the super 1000 event there next week and e e s l ready to play so here we go first shutle hitting anger on quarterfinal St here in Singapore they looked a little un Rusty yesterday SE and CH actually I didn’t see all of the match but from the result they struggled more than I would have anticipated see the match yeah the Geto yesterday the Malaysian [Applause] play combination of the power chain from the back of the and Toes inspiration at the net was a combination [Music] [Applause] [Applause] lentle [Applause] that LIF here too short to look at that his feet were in front of the most of the two double service lines at the back that’s exactly what to was doing yesterday anything loose got punished so it’s over 3 2 she doesn’t miss many like that glorious chance chance was not that big had come over the top of the tape there’s a good chance that he would G long of the back line it’s a very very narrow marking for Success there for t [Music] 3 1 he’s not particularly big man Chen he’s only 5’11 but he’s kind of an imposing character on his feet as [Applause] well that means that he can overcover the midcourt front Court area and still managed to um hold the backline that’s that’s the drift we’re talking about alongside the court going from Chen and toe towards K and Su there’s a s drift as well going from right to left and we seen a couple of situations in the early rounds where uh there’s been almost air shots where you totally mishit it even though it’s one players do every single day yes and even though both pairs played on this court yesterday still still having issues with [Applause] it is forward from [Music] [Applause] CH the thing is mixs you you pretty much want to get on the attack no matter which side you uh you play on so there’s not so many differences uh here the big difference is that you can sort of rule out certain situations [Music] um so you and it’s very unlikely that the Malaysians are going to try and live [Music] today unlikely in Wind still conditions but here it’s even more unlikely and um basically also goes for chin and to because don’t lift the attack gets a little bit extra back it arrives on the Korean side a tiny Split Second faster but that disrupts totally the timing of the shots compared to um more wind [Applause] conditions so there’s going to be a lot of emphasis on the service situation and we’ve also seen here in the opening both pairs trying to use the flick serve to uh keep the L so have open so to speak you don’t flick then it’s closer and closer to the low top of the table good play here [Music] from they play the back court but reasonably flat so there not an open smash opportunity for Chang CH just the odd unforced error at the moment that’s giving the Korean pair the advantage as in the longer rallies it’s been very even this is where preparation for the match BEC super important we could see that CH Jung there in the service situation was moving almost before toe had hit the return so the more you can anticipate the more you know from video studies about what your opponent has of Hab shots will help a cany bit of placement had toe sprawling on court with zero chance of getting there thank you [Music] [Applause] 10 7 so handy lead for SE at the moment going as you might expect if you just had a bare Gander at the rankings number four seeds ahead 117 the mid game inter [Applause] [Music] for [Music] 11 [Applause] second 127 these erors are starting to hurt CH and toe on the scoreboard clear daylight now for the [Applause] Koreans out this over 8 [Applause] [Applause] sideway Rift taking the shot here from Chong gep the longest rally of the match we are watching at the moment together think I described CH thisday as a as a wasp she’s so busy at the net never stops moving and from an opponent’s point of view she’ be extremely irritating CH yeah he’s become much much more active in the last uh year or so maybe one and year and a half with really been a good impact for Koreans to get hand on sh that’s the coach with the world championship title in Copenhagen of course 15 [Music] 15 6 [Applause] 1 hey 10 [Music] [Applause] 1 there the J J really [Music] alert that’s a good shot from toe but greatly retrieved by the left-hander 11 16 [Music] [Applause] a little bit too uh flat smashes from chensung G I like the idea of trying a a stop drop in front ofu Jun which he did earlier in the rally of the Malayan but it became way way too long the quality not good enough to to make a greater impact on the rally it’s over 17 [Applause] well again just too easy an opportunity for to pass up really was it a a flat uh fler or or what I think it probably was meant to be a regular fler but played too flat difficulty is that you can’t really give it a lot just got a bit ragged haven’t they at the moment CH toe they’ve been too inconsistent but um of course also due to the good play of these two [Music] here 13 19 [Music] [Applause] 11 brilliant Mi dou play by Chay and the way Chay turned that defense around moved herself to the there look at that she’s the one creating the opportunity for Su to play a downward shot and then a look for the interception on the last shot gain points here seven of them just long [Applause] [Applause] 17 [Applause] 10 12 14 good from c not just the final Short play the well before that created the opening and in just 15 minutes the fourth seeds take the opener by 21 points to [Applause] 14 [Applause] [Applause] for [Applause] for speee [Applause] [Applause] 4 2 second 2 seconds 13 17 over 16 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] second [Music] game well somehow CH tell me to change the tempo of this match because if that first game wore on so say try just assume more and more [Applause] control has been really really strong so far in this match Chu J on that back I would expect to see a fck serve here over 14 18 17 [Applause] why do you say Ste that the flick Ser might be a a more appropriate way because I feel that Jay has played so well at the front court so as a an opponent I would want to away from that area where she’s played so well and a good chance of doing that is the flexo they can flip with a little bit more confidence here and as you can see they can definitely also play the back court with more confidence and two but if they don’t get the right length on their lifts then it’s um it’s a problem [Applause] recently good lift from Chen there and I’m judging it on where see feet were at least one of the feet should ideally touch the uh some minimum the the first of the two double lines at the back if that’s not the case it’s too [Music] [Applause] short that’s chance and it means something how much that’s different from Pair to pair and player to player but it means something that chain knows that she cannot hit it freely uh from the front Court there that the drift alongside the C is well they needed a more positive start they certainly got that the [Applause] 19 [Applause] 20 was point [Applause] [Music] [Applause] by1 just had a look behind him there say that might have been drifting one but he he had to play [Music] it short figer from [Music] toy8 that started the Malaysian problems but U still fairly good start here to the second game that’s what they could have hoped for yeah a few errors from the we didn’t really see much of in the first G as well he knows seal that he cannot just freely push on that flat shot there so he has to try and control it play the front Court on the other hand I saw him play mens yesterday with coming huk and they were actually able to control the defense from this near side of the Court here that was very impressive against F from Indonesia [Music] [Applause] it’s almost like every Point going against the serve at the moment yeah second the ball for three seconds 20 seconds [Applause] oh see wasn’t aware that Chay was coming forward going for the same shot [Applause] [Music] [Applause] last 10 points have been against the serve wow [Music] that’s broken that little [Applause] [Music] run malan perspective it would be nice to go to the interval with a little cushion I feel the Koreans are about to work themselves into this second game oh there back close isn’t it very close understandable but they’ve off T kind a check this this first time we’ve Ed the technology this afternoon each play gets two challenges per game if they’re correct they’ll keep the challenge I reckon this is ajon it was the sideline that’s questioned that was the one called out challenged by Chen and J I don’t think you can uh ask for a a problem with that line do because that about as close as it possibly [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] get well R reversal here I think it was 117 the other way in the first game but it’s the since he had the advantage so far in game two over [Applause] 20 seconds 20 [Applause] seconds 117 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh from [Applause] [Music] [Applause] chin we go over [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] 1 love the way that toe tries to be as proactive and aggressive creative as possible three really good shots by her just a reminder here Spectators please ensure your camera Clash is off 1 is the who chose ends the coin source that far [Applause] in St as [Music] [Applause] well over it’s over 14 [Applause] [Music] here’s another interesting stat neither pair has won more than three straight points in this match so far that’s that’s actually um quite uncommon mix up is normally the the discipline of the streaks to score six [Applause] points com [Music] [Applause] 10 15 seems like he’s a little bit in doubt what to do with those fairly soft placed soft paced shots FL to the back hand side of his body Chin chong G [Music] [Applause] St talking to that this man here coach for both the and mix in Kore [Applause] [Music] 11 that’s great big favorites to win that point one stage the malians see the moment changing to our face to play From Below the to tape without too much Pace that’s when the Koreans take over initiative or at least creates problems foration pair here in the second game and so all of a sudden they’re within Striking Distance big point this I FY they could have got to within one it might have so a few down how Inc consecutive was that I I think you jinxed wasn’t W they 159 down yeah yeah [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] wait taking a big bul of a [Music] now they have got the deficit down to one he might be in for a bit of a dwan finish here to game two back from super important with the Ser situation now [Applause] we didn’t get the speed but I’d be surprised if that wasn’t T’s fastest smash of the match meant that is over 151 super alert there [Music] by oh he lost his de Chen look at that his right foot slipped [Applause] let’s hope he’s okay team is on its way in just a scrap hopefully be a to stick a some kind of f on that back action [Music] [Applause] actually did this yesterday with Chen Tang put a FAS on somewhere near his elbow it lasted all of about 2 minutes so hadn’t anything to do with his slip there that’s that’s positive probably if they’re going to do the same thing they probably need to put some tape around it as well otherwise not going to stay exactly have to put an anchor on 15 16 17 so pressure here on p with the serve but within a point again the Koreans [Applause] [Applause] [Music] with a fair degree of Venom [Applause] [Music] that super important server situation toe is not that J at the moment so chin has to Bar be sh on the service return [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] well followed up station J 184 [Music] was champing at the bit actuallyit shot was was Cher J was right there going to the Wi here in game two she’s challenging to slightly delayed challenge wasn’t it wasn’t like an immediate oh she’s not allow lowed to challenge by the Umpire too late saying is it yeah well they were there was a gap there was it’s it’s hard to disagree with the Umpire there it’s over 16 [Applause] 18 oh it’s a beauty 18 11 astonishing 18 17 18 well from a n on Impossible position look at that piece of retrieving from Chun and the smile from C J it’s almost like having to do that partner type of smile the other thing I noticed with C J today’s team is his smashes he’s got his trajectory absolutely bang on yeah no chance of a block after time because they’re Landing shule Landing a meter in front of the opponent this steepness is super efficient here over two match points t for the number four [Music] seeds so 2118 the Koreans are there they came from behind from a long way behind in fact at one point in that second game but came on really strong at the Finish JX look from the back of the court and Shing again so busy at the [Applause] front be very disappointed I think the the L because at one stage they look big favorites to win that second game but not to be and in the end a match that took only 41 minutes threatened to be longer confirmation of the final score line 214 2118 and C and J the full seed safely through to tomorrow’s semi1 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
