Former England coach and Sheffield Wednesday assistant coach Chris Powell is our special guest on No Tippy Tappy Football.

really pleased to have Chris Pow with us today and uh talk about this England squad for the Euros Chris Ivan Tony is nothing like any of them I think the biggest issue now for me is is left back the moment is one of the biggest match winners for England we’ve seen think the two wild cards that and really interesting players are Walton and EO he’s had a dreadful back end of the season goals wise dried up it’s how did it it is yeah welcome to another episode of no Tippy tappy football brought to you by William Hill and if you’re listening as a podcast this will all be normal for you but if you’re watching us on YouTube we have a bit of a different setup today and that is because we have a an England special for you today of course ahead of the Euros we do as well have a very special guest with a good England connection as well so first of all hey Samy how you doing I’m all right you look quite bright really after your disappointment at the weekend I don’t like rubbing it in but I wondered I did wonder how long it would take and that was about 30 seconds as a neutral as a neutral I I was you know watching the game as a neutral obviously and uh you know I I have more allegiance to sort of Pep if you like because I’ve I’ve known him for a long long time um but obviously um it was a shock I was shocked the first half I was shocked that man united um upset Man City and uh and of course well deserved the two goals that they got and then after that I thought they defended excellently well to to win the win the trophy which wasn’t expected by I don’t think many people across I mean obviously man united fans would go down with a lot of Hope but everybody else I think it’s going to be the double double for the first time for for Man City and pep but uh it was it was you know a fair result and uh Manchester United were and the United fans were very happy great I love the game I really enjoyed the game you know because of the the fiery entertainment the commitment the you know the the battling that went on as well as the ability of uh playing in a cup final and and entertaining us so well yeah I’m eating a good slice of Humble Pie Sam because yes I am not too bad though four on the Trot in the league you know what I mean you know I mean what was it semi-final of the Champions League quarterfinal you know so you know W one trophy for Pep this year he’d be disappointed only what only the Premier League only the number one only the number one the hardest one of the lot like you’re mean I absolutely accept the Humble Pie because we didn’t we didn’t as far as I was definitely in the first half Manchester United were definitely the better team and I think they deserved to win it um but do you know what I wasn’t as upset as I usually am and I think it was because of the four in a row and because of the success that we’ve had it’s almost bounced off me a bit Sam but I still accept the Humble Pie because I predicted it was going to be four or five nil so I’ll take that right would you like to thank you I’m yesterday had a spell with England as as a coach with Gareth and he’s had many and many of experiences across well I think quite a few divisions in in in the football league and and it’s really pleased to have Chris Pow with us today and uh talk about this England squad for the Euros Chris thank you very much for coming thank you sir and thanks for changing the decor just for me just for we’ve never been we’ve never been like this before is a New Concept uh I don’t know I don’t know um where our producer is and how he thought of it but you know it’s very good I think yeah for our podcast for the debate I think it’s very good for our podcast listeners we usually sit around a big wooden table like quite serious today we’re sitting on couches and we’re kind of slinked back and we’ve got a large whiteboard with all of the names of the people that are in the England squad so far and names of people that didn’t quite make it so we are going to go through that in detail we are going to get Chris and Sam to pick their star starting 11 for England and of course the 26 that will be on the plane to Germany as well but before we do that want to talk about you a bit please Chris because um what an incredible end to the season um that you and and your everybody had it at Sheffield Wednesday because you survived when really if you’d have gone to the start of the season and what was it was it n one G one winning 19 something like that nobody thought you were going to survive so incredible end to the season I got to say I I think cheer Wednesday changed my life you know and saved my life in many ways um you know I had a bit of a health scare which w’t go into but then I joined sh for Wednesday in October um three points after 11 games uh previous manager moved on and uh I got a a call from from Danny and someone who knew Danny as well before we spoke as you know Sam sometimes someone they just fool you off that word of mouth yeah yeah you you fancy this this role when I spoke to Danny I thought this would be right for me but I remember saying to him no it’ be a minor miracle if we do this because no one’s ever done it no and um we we won one game in our first six and it was a struggle so that’s two was 17 well no it was three it was three draws so it wasn’t a win it was three draws okay um so the team hadn’t won a game um everything was very low as you can imagine but one thing that got me was as a group of players that were decent good enough for the championship level um the support SP to Sam fair is unbeliev unreal I mean I’ve bought into it the fans know I’ve really enjoyed myself this year how I’ve enjoyed myself is another thing because it it was just i’ likeed to tell me about that just because of it just got under my skin the club just just I I just adored how they supported the club and what really got me our second game in played Plymouth away you now far plymouth’s far from everywhere we sold out 2 and a half thousand Wednesday night had won game singing the whole game we lost 3-0 and I remember walking off thinking if we can just slightly get this right I mean what are they going to be like the Blackburn game was that 7,000 you took yeah to an away game and we actually thought that was a mistake by Blackburn because they were fighting to stay up and we sold out the whole end we could have got they only to be thinking about the money Chris I didn’t want to say that that’s you you know I mean so but but what they’ve done and what they’ve achieved is and I know how hard it is and what effect it has on on particularly the manager and the staff because the lack of sleep is unbelievable have you slept much I have because I’m not the manager yeah so I was fine Danny yeah there were times it was it was really hard for him but he’s a young manager full of energy um full of knowhow for one so young um really well backed up by the staff I got to say we we’re all quite very different and what Sam said there I’ve got to say I’ve had six promotions five as a player one as a manager and I think what I achieved alongside those guys last year my biggest achievement I’ve got to say I really have because like Sam said we were written off yeah not one person said they’re going to stay up not one we lost 23 games Sam that’s half the season but those other 23 we got the results out of those players and I got to say they kept getting punched in the stomach you know we lost 60 away at ipwi the best team in the league by far for me just by by um and Leicester and Southampton leads they were the four strongest teams but our battle wasn’t them our battle was anyone in and around us that was our battle and we took it on and um it was a it’s a bril achievement and we just hope now we can build on it next year that’s our next thing now that moves us lovely into the qu the question segue yeah yes Chris the question so we always ask our listeners and our viewers if they’d like to send in a question for our guests the second that you went up on our social medias that you were coming on the questions flooded in and it was all the same question so all of the Sheffield Wednesday fans would like us to ask you have you signed a new contract yet the answer right now is no not yet but hopefully I will do um um Danny’s now signed um and that was always important for me only signed to the end of season because I felt um you know would I work okay with Danny and the rest of the staff which is a big tick easy for the chairman to say yes as well Chris you haven’t thought of there the chairman who’s financially bound the chairman or the owner is financially bound to think like this man’s not coming and want in a three-year contract and if he doesn’t work we have to pay him this much payoff I mean that’s how committed he is you know but he’s got a belief in his own ability you see you can always go in with a no contract situation till the end of the season and say well you know look I’ll prove myself and then you can sort myself out at the end of that if you want all the manager wants yeah and it’s it’s it’s it’s an an easy and to get somebody with his experience on that on them terms is pretty good like you mean especially on the position that we’re in yeah I didn’t think it was fair on Danny or the club if I went in and it it wasn’t right but you know I’ve got on so well with him he wouldn’t have thought that when he was going to his first job at 30 y like like me well how long is that contract me let’s see what the LMA say is it written the right way and all that stuff like I mean and as we get older and wiser and as we perhaps might not um we need it for football only we don’t need it for you know for the finance we’ll prove ourself again and again again that’s why he’s been in it so long yeah so hopefully I will agree to stay you know for another year or two or three now we’ll see but um yeah it’s going to happen that will make the shepherd Wednesday fans very happy I can tell you because of the amount of amount of messages that we got asking that question what do you think the club’s Ambitions are going to be next season then because apparently Danny has said that he he wants the top 10 no pressure Dan and I’m not a player anymore no yeah well it’s going to be a tough League again because okay three brilliant team have come out of it but then you look at the three teams from the Premier League Sheffield United Burnley Luton then you look at Portsmouth coming up derby um and then the teams that didn’t make it that were quite close um nor midboro norch West BR M albian tough leads back in the league well leads of course um disappointment that they’ve just suffered um but I think we’ve got to be quite um quite Savvy in how we approach it um I think yeah top half would be something to aim for a top 10 but it does depend on what players we keep there’s a number of players out of contract as everyone knows it’s about the Recruitment and what we bring in we managed to bring in one or two game changers really for us um in January whether we’ll be able to loan them again or even sign them is important for Dany um but we need a squad that is competitive capable and who knows you know because we I think if we look at the squad we had last year um it was a bottom half Squad but one we felt could stay in the championship we achieved that it’s about building on that now and we we just can’t look too far ahead you know it might take us a year or two to really get to where we want to go um but of course are we goingon to ey for it of course we are because that’s what we should do seems every Club stability in in the in the lower the lower half of the championship uh League one and League two talking to some of the managers that I know and all that down there they have to spend a huge amount of their entire life getting 10 players in eight players in every year not not just not just every now and again I mean then the lack of stability for that is you what you’re going out and what you’re coming in you will never really know until you start your preseason training and whether whether you’ve got better or whether you’ve got something that improves what you’ve got like I mean and that’s a huge huge task because you’re talking about six eight 10 individuals who’ve never played together and you’ve got to mold them into the players you’ve already got and try and and you expected to be some wave some magic wand and be some genius that you can do that in five or six weeks before the season starts and most of the time you don’t get all your players till the end of um August before the window shuts so then you’d end up scraping around for lone players who can I get on loan and all that and that detracts from the the whole ethos of uh people understanding each other and when they understand each other they play much better they understand the personalities they understand their way of playing they understand the strengths and understand the weaknesses so you get a better flow a better entertainment value better result results but when you’re constantly changing six eight or 10 every year and it’s it’s it’s really so so much more difficult now than it used to be because because of the finance the finance drives the fact that they’re signing these short-term players on loan or or on oneye contracts and then at the end of it letting them go I think I talked to car at sford I think 10 have gone or something like that I think they’ve got eight I think they’ve got eight players left W yeah and that’s like it’s you know you have to be some manager to put that together for one season and think about getting promoted but you know the pressure on you to do that is is constant what you mean so can I say Sam I did that did you my very first full year as a manager at Char Char yeah we got promoted but the season before allowed me I got appointed in the January yeah we had a disaster for the second half of that season my first job and I’m thinking could be me gone but what I managed to do was convince the owners that we needed a new plan we needed new Heroes yeah and I released most of the squad and signed 16 new players 23 over the course of the season with the loans as Sam said got promoted but it wasn’t just come the summer bring those players in in those six months when we were sort of not really winning games we were recruiting yeah and we were we knew what players were going to be through transfers I was already speaking to players I know you’re out of contract would you like to join us and Chon in League one at that time was a big draw and um you know I managed to bring in some really good players that actually I had one eye on could they play championship football uh would there be value in them um because that’s what you have to do you have to kind of sell it to the owners that actually we bring in a free transfer but it might be worth three qus of a million in a year’s time and the staff I had at that time everything just jelled I was very fortunate doesn’t always happen like that but we got 101 points won the league and I thought every season’s going to be like this and actually that’s not quite not quite right no yeah but you know it it can happen it’s rare and like Sam said the backdrop of us at cheffer Wednesday last year was we had players that were going to be out of contract and we’re asking them to put their bodies on the line to keep us up knowing that they might not have a contract they might not be staying and I think that’s full credit to them as individuals that they actually still you know performed and listen majority of them would like to stay I know we want them to stay but of course they contract over 24 they have a choice now they can go to another championship Club maybe higher or they might stay for a New Journey with with Danny so I’m hoping they do um it’s great club though is it I mean if you got that’s phenomenal you know I mean so I don’t know if anybody’s coming in make a to give their players you’ve got the a bigger or better Club than Sheffield Wednesday like you mean I’m looking forward to the Sheffield Derby hasn’t been one for seven years yeah I’m looking forward to that cuz that will be some game you know everyone’s talking about it already already yeah fixes are out in about three weeks as well so you you have it circled straight away yeah I mean what’s been going on at Chelsea I I could stood up for himself and they didn’t like it AR you think I don’t know I’m not where I think he’s gone in and say I need this this and this and instead of sacking the recruitment yeah boys the sa porino that’s what that’s normally that’s always normally the case until later in the line you’ll probably find that the recruitment boys the Ed recruitment or director of football they’ll get they’ll get found out and they’ll be gone but it’s always the manager go he’s probably stuck up for himself and probably thought to himself listen I’ve done unbelievable back end of the season yeah so nobody nobody nobody expected him to get it right instantly yeah cuz none of the others had yeah before we move on to England one other managerial change this week Wayne Rooney’s gone to Plymouth he’s gone to the AR what do you think I know yeah Wayne’s got a real you know chance of proving himself because last chance do you think well well not not many you know I love way short spell with him at at Everton he’s outstanding human being in terms of his football commitment and his his love of football is unbelievable you know and he I mean looks face it he’ll travel anywhere for football W he God bless his family yeah and then we’ll go to Plymouth it’s a long way home from there yeah you know I mean to see the family but you know full march to him but you know there’s not many of us get as many chances as that so I hope he Gras this one and learns all what he’s learned from the previous ones to make it man success at Plymouth yeah I think that’s one thing you can’t not accuse him of is that he could easily he’ll have a go would he yeah he wants to do it he actually wants to do it um and there’ll be people saying that you know his previous roles haven’t gone the way they should do and and why has he got this chance but obviously in his talks in his interview they’ve seen something that they like um it didn’t fit for him at Birmingham and that happens you I just happened to S myself you go somewhere it doesn’t fit you move on just say thank you very much you move on and I think he now has a chance at a level where you know what can you achieve at Plymouth well obviously they stayed up last year uh after promotion the year before they’ve lost some good managers young managers Schumaker low in quite quick succession and it’s hit them hard they tried with a young coach in here Foster uh it didn’t quite work out for him who’s a really good coach at England level someone i’ I’ve met a few times but now they’ve gone for Wayne I think he will need good support around him he will obviously try not to make any mistakes he made previously and been given a chance we all want a chance in life try and do best he’s really he’s really if I was speaking to him now this is the biggest selection his back room staff in his in his managerial career M cuz he’s had many many different back room staffs in wherever he’s been starting from Derby to America to Birmingham now to to Plymouth now he’s got all that experience that that that backro staff who’s going to support him and be better than he is at other things can’t be greater everything we got you got to realize your strength and then find somebody that’s better at that particular thing than you are and employ him and make sure that he delivers and he can deliver better than you can because it’s one of your weaknesses not one of your strength so you stick to your strengths and you promote your weaknesses by finding somebody better than you yeah that doing that particular job whatever that might be um so it’s time let’s on it’s time I have to say to everybody this these colors to represent the club that they played for I had to one when it came in myself this morning just looked at the I thought why why are all these different colors like my my D logic brain thought it would be you know one color for Defenders one one especially being a dyslexic you know what I mean but but I have to say I understand when he explained to me that basically representing the color of the clubs that they play for so if anybody’s watching apart from Jude really cuz Madrid Madrid I understand I can’t put white thereal phip is still owned by Manchester City as well so if you’re if you’re listening um if you’re listening on the podcast uh we have a big white board behind us with a list of players that we are going to discuss on the plane wild card and ones that didn’t make the 33 I think it was so the ones that are definitely staying at home so that is what we are referring to now before we get on to the player selection I want to get into the minds of how the players are selected and of course couldn’t have better guests for that former manager coached with like got to pick your brains now Chris how does Gareth go about selecting his Squad talk us through is there a group discussion does he just come to you you know what what are you doing when you’re selecting the squad so I think really um how it’s done Gareth and Steve you know employed by the fa um they’re guys that really hone down what the squad is is um I was only really involved in discussions just before the Euros in 2021 um but ultimately you know Gare has a final say and Steve um you have an input as staff I think we all know G is very understanding and intelligent to understand others and how you know integration and how everyone has a voice um but ultimately when you’re in that role as Sam knows um you know you you have to have that choice I remember discussions before the Euros um again we had a a bigger Squad and some players were going to come out but then you have two friendlies and anything can happen as a long list there’s an understanding of who’s coming up so someone like kobby Mayu G would have known about him and where he’s at in his development with England and also with Manchester United but they’re all going about Mayu know but he’s fantastic and and looks a great great player nobody’s done more than Palmer don’t get onto it yet don’t get on to it yet hold on hold on I mean can’t the words going around because he’s a great FA Cup wi and all that and it’s like Chelsea finished the season he’s sort of Forgotten like I mean he’s said player of the Season he he won’t be forgotten sir he will not no not with England he won be forgotten I’m just talking about out in the in in the worldness but I mean G’s big problem is is they’re so good and the squad’s so good right do you want me to talk about this next yeah we’ll carry on then and I’ll start hold on okay you know what I mean the squad’s so good and I’ve I’ve said this for a long time I’ll keep saying it so you can come in um is the best Squad in the world yeah well I’m going to ask you for your England’s prediction right at the end we’re going to tease everybody and we’re going to get both of your starting 11s for the Serbia game at the end as well so before that so so it’s it’s Gareth and it’s Steve they’re getting a little bit of input but it’s them essentially that are choosing yeah this right 33 man squad is what’s been named two friendlies and then it goes down to 26 so before we get on to that the players that didn’t make the squad we’ve suggested a few again for our podcast listeners we’ve got a whiteboard we’ve suggested a few that were surprised that didn’t or not surprised but they just didn’t maybe we’re not surprised but they didn’t so in terms of the on are staying at home um anybody sort of jumping out at you that you were surprised that didn’t make the team I think everybody’s picking him out sadly unfortunately for him is Marcus rashford you know normally stalwart always there you know since that one the one before that Ryan Sterling so the do and he is you say he’s loyal but he’s good when he when he when the time is up he’ll make that decision and the only time the only person who thinks the time is up that’s important not anybody else is G because he’s the man who picks it in the end of the day yeah rashford was the headline not to make the squad was he the biggest surprise for you Chris yes and no um I think the season that Marcus has had for his standards wasn’t at the level of previous Seasons he still actually played for England scored I think it was against Italy yeah off the left bit of a game changer for England always has been um but it’s just not maybe ahead of two or three others um that are in the 33 at this present time I actually think he can come back I really do I I don’t think he’s written off well I think it might be harder for rahee yeah maybe a bit older um and like Sam he’s only about 30 though in he yeah 30 31 but I I still think there’s players that you’re looking at now in those wide positions that may be there for the next three four five tournaments um so Marcus was the headline um but understandable I think it’s understandable but again it’s up to him now to have a rest and come back firing next year what about in terms of how thinking Jordan Henderson in terms of the experience that you would have brought what did you make it that again I think he’s had um a season where it hasn’t gone the way he would wished with regards to going to Saudi and then saying to everyone made a bit of a mistake here which is Mone is not everything no and kudos to him to actually holding his hand up saying I need to come back going to an iconic Club really but they’re in a mess at the moment Ajax not playing to the level and the intensity that all the other guys have been playing at and I think that’s one of the reasons maybe GTH said you know maybe a Changing of the Guard uh there’s one or two young players that are now showing that they’re capable and maybe felt it wasn’t right for the Jordan to be in the squad the weakest part of the squad and it’s not that weak but we as the Defenders yep the Midfield is and the front line are so strong now with the names that and the quality of the players that we’ve got is why Jordan and this probably be be left out you know the one name for me that I was surprised hasn’t made the 33 was Dominic salanki because he’s had the season of his life 21 goals in all competitions and I know that people will immediately say well who would you have left out for him I would have left out Ivan Tony now I was a massive Ivan Tony fan for England last time but I think Dominic slank had a better end of the season what do you think oh he definitely had a better end to the season he had a better season completely yeah of course Ian only had the half of the season I think what goes in Ivan’s is his last performance for England um how he’s different to Harry and olle but I think I would have tried to get Dominic in a 33 maybe not the 26 but the 33 to just say have a look yeah going to have a look at you we see you we we’re you know rewarding you years to become a goal score right absolutely yeah and he he was outstanding um I think you should take three Strikers so for me I I think Ivan will go with Harry alongside Harry and Ole of course are they gonna play not really if Harry’s available he’s playing let me tell you now um but they are different um so it’s a shame for Dominic um and I don’t think it’s because he plays with Bournemouth I don’t think that at all I think he’s proven at the level that w taret spend more money than anybody else when it comes to a striker David if you’re want a talented Midfield before back you know you don’t get it but if it’s a stri and he scores goals he’ll get the money I think he’s just down just just down their street if they if if bourma get the right off and they’ll they’ll actually sell him like you mean but as in terms of his England position is he is he like OE similar walking uh yeah is he is he a bit like Harry is he bit Ivan Tony is nothing like any of them but the garth’s problem is this if you pick Ivan Tony and you put him on you got to play to Ivan Tony if you don’t you’ll be you’d be a waste of time being on the pitch but you could play to Ian Tony in the last 15 20 minutes as long as your tactics are set out that way as long as you’re saying to the players if we’re having a bit of trouble this may be half time if we’re having a bit of trouble if I’m only comes on I don’t want you messing around I want you to play off him yeah yeah I want you to all get around him and get behind him because he will win or hold it up or flick on every Ball but if you don’t do it it’ll be a waste of time putting him on but you say that Sam against Belgium in the game he scored the penalty he did yeah played really well absolutely from the start absolutely that’s what I’m saying so I’m saying he looks like he’s done it he’s not he’s not okay he’s not ignored the fact like you mean he gone you know this this is why this is why you know more than us fans both of you they’ve seen him up close in personal yeah the only problem I have with him is this is he’s had a dreadful back end of the season goals wise dried up sold him out we fantasy team dried he dried up didn’t he like he came back and whether that’s a catch up from is Ban and he’s got back and and then all of a sudden the not playing it him you know the games have hit him and he’s like he’s he’s not quite as match fit as he used to be and that was that was him losing and he’s leaving as well they’ve already bought his replacement brenford they B so uh Striker from Bruce all right okay okay so that’s the people that are at home that’s done that’s gone they’re not in the 33 then we’ve got a 33 that’s going to come down to a 26 there’s going to be a really interesting discussion on a good number of five or six players I think but I want to go first of all to the top who is definitely for you on the plane 100% I mean we’ve got we’ve made a little list here of suggestions of who we think who is on the plane for you I’m guessing you’re straight away gonna say Cole Palmer’s on the plane for you Sam he is for me but you know I think that you can’t play like that in your first season in a struggling team yeah which end up not being a struggling team and finishing the back half last 10 games brilliantly and scoring all those goals and assists without without showing or saying to everybody I’m I’m ready you pack your bags you go from Manchester to London yeah not an easy task yeah if it’s the first time you’re going to live there you got to find somewhere to live you got to settle in you got to find out all the new players some of them won’t even speak English probably you know it’ be difficult for them and to integrate but to play like he played and and all those players that Chelsea bought and he he end up one one of the cheapest and know with 30 million yeah 30 million is cheap Now by way um the 30 million and the amount they paid on bigger Talent than that and the that played nowhere near as consistent as he did it’s not only the goals and the assists it’s how consistent he won and now good he is on the ball and now he took all the penalties yeah you I mean he just just just got no nerves a lot do he he just goes out and like and and he’s so creative in terms of what he does but I don’t think you could yeah um I mean you you’re talking about a player that’s going to be world class for the next 10 years for me yeah sad is not pler yeah he’s sad he’s crime is not pler the players that You’ the players You’ just named in the ages of them by the way wow yeah don’t forget he packed his bags and went to Germany yeah now that’s that’s that’s an hard that’s an hard country to go and integrate in because you know the the well a lot of the Germans speak speak good English like there’s only us English that don’t speak enough foreign languages because we’re that lazy you know what I mean but I mean to go in to go into Germany at 18 and then just Blitz it and then to go from there to Real Madrid I mean you I mean I’ve had Ivan Campo and Fernando yo play for me from Real Madrid you know two massive names like you mean but they you talk to them about the problems you get at Real Madrid when they don’t like you when the white tankies come up cuz when they start step the white tankies that’s you their form rice Bellingham Palmer sacka Kane foden bones had a solid season Gordon has Watkins has so there’s some players that are really in a good place I think the the issues we have got even with the ones that I think definitely going our sort of form and games that that they haven’t played Maguire injured Stones hasn’t played too many no trippier has been injured trench just come back yeah are you taking all them based off what you know they can do in the experience yes and I think sure ke on Trent is he is he is he is he that Keen on Trent well he’s reinvented himself with England as an eight as a mfield absolutely yeah I give him that I mean look our Midfield or so that’s why rice Bellingham Palmer Conor Gallagher if he gets in oh is he on the plane for you on on the basis of Midfield it’s not it’s not going to be easy though I think UK yeah I do yeah in terms of if you if you if you’re talking who can who can who can do both who can do the defending and the attacking because we have a we have a sort of have a sort of the impression that we talk about attacking Midfield player and defending Midfield player and we don’t seem to say no you have to be both do both yeah we don’t seem we seem to have forgotten that the fact that that’s not that’s not it’s it you don’t do anything unless you can do both as a Midfield player well when I give you my 11 I’m going to touch on that a little bit i’ had a little think about it I think the biggest issue n for me is is left back absolutely I think it’s the biggest issue just come back he might not be fit GF has actually said he’s up against it now do you take him knowing that maybe two three weeks after the group stages he’s fit enough for the last 16 or who would you take then if you don’t take him who would you well would you take he’s the only left back who can play right or left back this is trippier can play left back just as good as he plays right back right what if he’s injured though but he he has been playing he would be the first one I mean he played left back um for England euros and World Cup yeah um so Gomez comes into the equation yep uh it’s a shame that Co will Ben chilwell both Footers would give us Natural Balance so actually you know with with Luke Shaw if he doesn’t make it we don’t have a left footed left back for balance now you can get away with that of course you can but it’s gone to be a big talking point for me okay looking at our Squad at the moment so in that case and are you taking bran weight so at least there’s a left footer but he’s played all season at at left Center back of a two or in a three um didn’t play last time he was in the squad to point him in at left back okay you can point him in as left back and then you can play different you know um GF has spoken about Phil foden and people saying if you play him off the left but it’s not where you start it’s where you end up and he’s quite right that you can build in a different way um you can physically say oh we’re a 433 but actually when we have possession of the ball we could be a different shape yeah so they may play a little bit like that I don’t know it’s going to be quite interesting that we may go to a tournament without an out andout left back which for me I think you should always have a player who is you know round PS and round H yeah simple so are you taking sh then regardless of the fact that you haven’t played since February if if they know that um he will actually be fit England The Voice taken a player or two that’s not fit for first maybe first two games went to Qatar James Madison wasn’t Fit until I think the Wales game the third game there’s are two two opposites is there there’s two opposites there’s the ones that haven’t played and there’s the ones who’ve played too much yeah you got to be aware of the ones who’ve played too much are going to be fatigued when they get there yeah yeah cuz there have much time off are they before the you miss so much and it is about what you’re prepared to give up and I think that’s wrong personally um I understand it when you’re a young manager and you know I wanted to have a try I wanted to be a a black manager who who wanted to to do well and I I I just I don’t want to be there anymore and dealing with owners and managing up no no not for me anymore I I I don’t see I don’t I don’t feel that way inclined anymore I want to be in the game and I understand that but I’ve had my time um and I would say 99.9% I won’t do it so that’s not completely enough is it all right Neil Warner yeah okay I thinking about what GIS likes as well and he loyal to some players and has been very loyal to Mary Maguire Chris are you happy with the back four or is there anything you would have changed I am I mean the big question mark is Luke Shaw’s Fitness um and that’s why we we’ve got Kieran triopia there because I think if Luke and it sounds like he if he is going to be fit maybe not for the group games possibly um then I think Tripp will I think the only problem with that is he’s hopefully hopefully he’s fit yeah cuz when they took team after to where was it Australia Australia Australia he got injured in after 15 20 minutes and got taken off so so you’ve got trippier in case Shaw’s not fit and if you got gayi in case McGuire’s not fit yeah the only one I would the one I would have considered as a to fill in and finish the season quite L Liverpool was Gomez you know do a job in all in any three of those positions Center half left back or right back so you know so he he his fit he’s proven his fit so you know he would have been something that consider okay definitely so that is the back four move me from now on I’m just going to let you talk move me on to the rest of the team we both we both agreed with this one yeah these three we both agreed on a fourth a four 33 and I think that we both agree that fen’s better in the on the left and wide left man watching him for Man City this year and obviously Bellingham Real Madrid has been um a revelation not only his Midfield role but his goal scoring ability so um even Dean rice has popped up with probably five or six maybe more I don’t know Arsenal in terms of goals but certainly the stability that he would give um and the support he would give to those those two and I think what’s going to be important is rotation CU I think that confuses the opposition and I think all of that that five you know aric could go come deep and Belling going behind same with fold and yeah go and come off the line sacker off the line you know so there’s a lot of flexibility and rotation in those uh those front five okay so rice Bellingham foden yeah and then then talk to me about this front three well can I go back just yeah so with Bellingham and I think what we’re talking about and Sam’s touch on it rotation England attended to play 42 31 yeah so you can actually do it with this team yeah could because Sam was talking earlier about we we tend to say midfielders either they’re good attacking or defending but I think if we’re under pressure J could go alongside Dean Phil can then the 10 yeah behind and Link with Harry y um but then also I think Jude this year has played as 10 um in the main and defended off the left now I’m not saying he’s going to do this with with England but G recently has said about you know if Phil um is in the team and people say he’s off the left that’s not where he might end up you know he is given free reign so actually if you’re giving Phil and Jude free reign and Dean is smart enough and diligent enough to you know hold and be a number six for the team I think you’ve got a fluid front six really front um and it’s going to be I I hope that we go into games like that and then we’re going onto the front three as you said and that’s going to be um I think you was going to say sam about Phil and Anthony Gordon about yeah Phil yeah prob yeah you know with maybe come on and you know but but it does know foden and because we together at Man City like I mean and I like I I always think about the need for these are the positions that you start in but where you shouldn’t finish in yeah because because if you’re predict able and it’s easier for the opposition to cope with you so when you’re in possession flexibility in terms of where and where you when you run to creates creates Havoc with the opposition and the rotation and the flexibility of this this front line so that can stay up top drop it dropping the old people can run off a in in behind yeah about a back four but the way teams are playing now sort of play or build with a free so Walker will maybe go on to next line might go inside as happens at City alongside Dean that gives you another player in Midfield John can move up as well if he needs to absolutely so then all of a sudden you’ve got free then Shaw can go and step in and you know we have to take the initiative I think we’re better when we do that U and I think we got the players who like to play that way um so you know I think people will look at it and go it’s 433 but actually it can be all sorts of different things in possession and out of possession yeah yeah okay okay thank you even Stones can play in Midfield if Midfield World last year I mean that for Man City so manytimes you’re right no bias from me ever
