MGM Podcast 44 – FNCRU

I can’t remember the day can you remember the day [Music] welcome to the far North Coast Rugby Union podcast brought to you by Mark golf Media Sports I’m gram cook and as usual I’m here with Wayne malain how are everybody good thank you and proudly sponsored by Coopers as well integral to the zign financial support is very much needed we do appreciate that Coopers thank you very much so we”re actually got a bit of rugby happened in the last seven days yeah there certainly well a full round of Juniors and a full round of seniors full round of Juniors as well I wasn’t sure about that well that is fingers crossed that the weather stays away and we get another round in so that’s the first time this year no round one we got away with but we didn’t have any Juniors no the Juniors y so first first time we actually had full Juniors and full seniors and there were some pretty good matches too yeah there certainly were so very interesting on Thursday night game I watched that I got home from being at Walling bar with the um Range m match cuz that was played early and I got home and and I went on to rugby TV and yours was still going cuz it was an 8:30 kickoff wasn’t it it was a late kickoff yes it was yes and um I said a lot of people be in bed by now I think the Caravan Park people might have wanted to be in bed by then but the lights were on um yeah and it was exciting finish there uh got to one point score the try after full time conversion to come down by a point yeah poor all m m one out of six yeah did he miss a penalty goal as well yes I think so I think I thought i’ seen in the in the scored a few tries but yeah I mean a fantastic night of rugby very good crowd over there casino on Thursday night uh four games being played with the 18s women and seconds and then first grade first grade as we’ve alluded to was a very close match in the end 3332 cassino over Evans River uh Cino were up 3217 I think it is or 19 and then Evans River came back scored three tries and it was W here we go it was yeah kick to come unfortunately it went wide fortunate for a river and casso managed to hang on for the one point win yeah they were Ying out lot bullies bullies when he was trying to take the kick I noticed that but um yeah Zan Gater scored a couple of tries there they 15 it was it was just a really good night all the games were just really good rugby um again just just clubs that are willing to just play positive rugby and see who comes out on top so yeah a very very enjoyable night well done Casino uh put on a wonderful evening plenty of Spectators there uh just and plenty of good rugby it’s exactly what we want in the zone it was absolutely brilliant and the other match was out at wiing bar yeah Walling versus Range I got there oh not long before the kickoff I was doing people were ringing me can you do this and I was so I got there late and and I went it’s going to be right on kickoff I get there and and it was but parking it was it was like a Saturday they had a lot of people as well oh well cars there was a lot of people there A lot of people from range Lenny block was there oh yes um you know coming to see how the range boys are going back in the comp and things like that he he he had half shirt on you know I mean look range have had a a couple of good wins up against the the premier perennial Premier for the last what five or 10 years now so this was a perhaps a bit more of a reality check walling bar seen to have hit the ground running and playing some pretty good rugby yeah it wasn’t too bad like Reigns had their chances they weren’t out of it um they they got penal first they leading Three N 3 n then wiing bar scored and then they got another penalty 76 and it just and then all of a sudden without too much you didn’t know what was happening you’re looking at the halftime score G and then and um one of the range biks scored right on halftime out in the corner and James panker couldn’t kick that one he’s a good goal kicker that James pank I like him and um so it was 40 to 11 at half time and I didn’t believe it I said you see I went over the I said I don’t had no idea it was that much yeah Welling bar good teams can do that to you you you sort of feel as that you’re holding them and then every now and again they’re scoring a five or seven pointer uh and suddenly the the scores bling out without the game appearing to be an uneven contest Walling bar ran out winners in that first grade game 6618 so congratulations to them yeah it was much closer in the second half they took a lot of BLS off to which is great it was good to get him off and you know even Benny Dam come off and Jared Wy went on for first grade he he actually started first grade on the wing got got subbed off and he went back on like he’d play first grade at most other clubs that’s that’s good I mean yeah and that’s the sort of contest they can they can blood some of those players in give them a bit of a run rest some of the regular first graders if you like uh and yeah sounds like good crowd good rugby so well done yeah and another was just the one game just the one game at welding Bay yep the another very even contest though down at lenx head between Lennox head and the bar shy Rebels it was 148 at halftime yeah it wasn’t too bad and and I had a look at that game and that was indicative of how the teams were playing too it was a it was a very even game L were given BN a real Run for the money yeah bar and Eddie was telling me the day they got a lot of injuries and people out and whatever right right so as it turned out U baraw Rebels managed to run away with that in the second half and won 338 uh but I think Lennox had to be very happy with their performance they they actually played a lot better than what they did the week before against Walling bar and actually troubled Bor and sha Rebels at times uh and in the end B and sha Rebels just showed why they were in the Grand Final last year and ended up comfortable winners but yeah very well done Linux head so other matches at the weekend cerina were at home to the gold Rat uni uh that was a rather one-sided match uni had a few players out cerina sort of finally hit their straps and actually did what they can do they’re a dangerous team when they get on a roll and start K George was back first game he’s played this year and so they just a wrong day for lost the second rower he’s done his shoulder for the year so he’s gone I think it was I think it was presland I think James PR I think and the last match in first grade last last round was Lismore at home against Bell that that was one of those matches where if balner could put it together they were going to be very hard to beat but they’ve had some good games and not so good games and’s at times played some pretty good rugby so was sort of interesting to see how that was going to go and then yeah balner turned it on at times first half in particular that were very impressive I couldn’t believe how quick that number eight was for a big man no one no one sort of troubled it they’ve got a few new players this this year they’re starting to jail and they’re scoring a fair few points and they end up running out winners well they’re 5712 and and deservedly so they they were the better team by far Lismore came back and scored some tries were almost scored again right at the death debatable one if we had a TMO we would have loved to have gone to it uh but yeah congratulations B and are putting some pretty good form together so they’re they’re looking one of the teams to beat at the moment and there was some some good games in second grade women and 18s as well yeah well I I went down to um yamber on the Saturday after no one the Bal and the Walling bar under 18s team they didn’t have anyone down there to do the match day or anything like that Steve meon who who’s supposed to be the coach had to work um so Tony Bennett said what are you doing and Ro you into it yeah I went down with him and I didn’t even get the te team up in the then cuz I didn’t know who they were and trying to work out who they were and I I got got the team in um and a very good game of footy it wasn’t too bad yeah they Walling bar looked all right the b b and the Walling bar team they uh got had more players than they’d had I think they had 13 down there right good good good which is a lot better but yam has got some good kids that have been playing in that that team for a long time zepher tropman and Mason Simmons play for last year they played they played well they actually scored a try well the balner guys um Chris King he scored a try and um that wasn’t a bad sort of game and then the second grade game down there was halted in the second half it was it was rainy down there it was very wet right okay um all the nudy schools were down there from Under 12 through to 15 so it was a big day and um yeah it was good I was talking to Dave Cannon the ex doctor you know I’m not that from this area he’s not he’s still a doctor for a while and um talking to him and Andrew Penman remember yes from uni and was just talking away and then they said oh we’ve just heard a pop there and one of the four buggers samberry uh fractured his um both bones and his legs his tiia and his fibia and Dave went out held it there where they put him on the ladder I mean on the stretcher and they moved him off wishing well in his recovery but sounds like ambulance was really quick it was there within 10 minutes wow yeah so oh they knew the ambulance station number they tried Triple A but rang them bypass and it was picked up so yeah all all the best to sberry uh I hope it’s a quick recovery I think that’ll that’s his season he won play unfortunately so yeah wish your speedy recovery mate that’s that’s tough when that sort of thing happens I told him to make sure you recorded in the in the match day up as a serious injury been T you know and that I went in later and checked it and I just went transported to hospital by ambulance so they you know they can make the claim on the ambulance as well for insurance purposes the clubs do that it assist their their players if they later need to make a claim on the insurance to have that all recorded so yeah well done um and a good good day foot though oh they put on a great day it was it was really good was great I mean finally got a weekend of full rugby and it’s been really good rugby I think we’ve all been hanging out for a weekend like that with a bit of dry weather some tracks that aren’t aren quite as wet uh and this weekend it’s been pretty dry around the zone and should be even better yeah there forecast for it oh sh okay so don’t you start talking about that so this weekend in first grade matches I think the first one up was quite a big match actually ceren at home to the barn show Rebels yeah that that’ll be an interesting thing Eddie was on the phone saying that they got a few out you know they always get the story you know whatever get the story The Good Center is a bit sore and yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but uh now that’ll that’ll be a tough game up there Kara performed very well last week if they play like last week if they’ve got the same cattle yep you never know what everyone’s going to have Linux head really pushed Baron for for quite a bit in that match last weekend so I’m expecting that’ll be quite a good contest I’m fortunate to have that game and certainly looking forward to it at cerena yeah so you got that game I’ve got that game and I just check the referee appointments and Rob Walker has accepted the second grade game up there good I’m glad I’m not the only referee up there for they’ve got four games on plus the Juniors that they have with the go Coast comp earlier in the day so full D of rug full day of rugby at cerina so if you’re around that area and want to watch some really good rugby that’s two clubs that play entertaining for the times have been changed up there it’s going to be 150 for second grade and the women women will have to play before them at 1:00 1:00 and the under 18s at 11:30 yeah 1150 whatever the 11:30 something whatever so and women’s seconds then first at 315 no referee for first uh for under 18s or the women’s at the moment and I think you’re going to do one of those yeah suspect one of those don’t tell the wife to one another one of those going to coach a referee that isn’t appointed oh Cookie while you’re here yeah yeah okay other first grade games this weekend we have I think Evans are at home yeah Evans River Killer Wales home to Lismore City and we got p doing that one that’s that’s potentially an very even contest yeah but’s at home yeah it is I reckon that that’ll be there’s a lot of games here that are uh important to each Club here you know like that’s that’s potentially a a good close hard matchup which is great y um Walling bar play University at Brunswick H Brunswick HS yeah cuz the Walling bar playing it’s Mal’s home game against Walling bar second in second grade so the first grade going down to Brunswick as well so Brunswick had hosting first grade and second grade first grade Walling bar versus Southern Cross uni and second grade the home Club Malby against wiing B yeah y okay will Barnes will Barnes is doing the first grade game up there W’s doing another first grade game congrats that’s awesome to see and I never checked to see who’s doing the second grade game up there hopefully there’s somebody yeah yeah there will be someone sure a little bit harder to ask somebody you might see s running around s s running now that I’ve got to see get that on video please okay um now another really big game bner versus Lennox head so balner at home against Lennox head yeah sponsor day local Derby sponsors day and the Hooper Shield the Ian Hooper Shield which is played between both clubs because as people may recall Ian Hooper referee unfortunately passed away at Lennox head in 2019 in a match between Lennox head and bellner so that’ll be played at bellner first second grade there second grades there and U they’re together and B hosting the under 18 team are playing yber again so there’s three games down at Reserve bner will have have three games on that will be a big day uh bner and LX bner as I mentioned earlier are playing some very impressive footy at the moment uh Lennox had however learn a few things playing Walling bar two weeks ago last weekend push bar sh rebeles so being a a local Derby as well I would imagine they’ll be up for this game oh yes and that that could be a very close hard contest uh and yeah very much looking forward to seeing that one a bit later on Ry dly on his toes young Lan duly he’s he’s getting these first grade games now he’s doing a great job that will certainly test him it’s a game at another level to what he’s done so far he’ll be really working hard all day I would imagine no matter what the score line is there’ll be a little bit of feeling in that game so it’ll it’ll be very good as for his growth as a referee congrat congratulations ockland dly that’s a fantastic appointment for you and last but not least yeah Casino against range so another another derby match oh yes you call that a derby match yeah casino at home to Richmond range yeah all boys day for the blls bo now they good boys days tend to be good days so that Matthew Clayton Matthew Clayton Matthew kton refereeing that one put a very experienced Referee on that one being the local Derby there might be needed uh that that yeah I mean we just got a really good round with Evans and Lismore casera and baron shy Rebels uh bner and Lennox casino and range all potentially just really interesting matches to see how they’ll go uh now you mentioned we’ve got a full round of Juniors as well yeah they’re on everywhere around the place um nothing at Karena on Friday night that’s their first week without any games okay got some B wiing head yeah Evans River so there’s a lot of games around the place i’ I’ve sent that out now I just got told that uh the girls under 16s that I just do a draw every week when they tell me when where where the venue is and they uh Lennox head and yamber are combining to make a team okay and they’re going to play a 15 as side cuz the under 16 schs are going away for the country Championship so get him a game at at at 15 aside right so they’ll play Lismore back down at yber okay I don’t remember seeing that course one of the games down there Karina um couldn’t field the side for the night and they’ agreed not to play the under 14s down there on Friday night so they’ve moved the girls into that slot so I’ve got to put that in rugby Spore when I get home I forget give the girls a run before they go away yes now that’s again some some big games with you know g a lot of games on various clubs yeah various grounds are going to be pretty full I’m sure all the uh Zone coaches around the here for all the junior ages plus first grade and the women’s will be crossing their fingers at no injuries yes um I’ve I’ve received uh some of the um the kit yesterday and I’ve got all that sorted out at the moment ready to hand out I’ve got the training t-shirts for the juniors and the pil and their socks and another nine cartons left kempsey this this this afternoon so the Zone The Zone teams of course go away to the state championships in juniors and the opens and women’s teams go to the country championships at Tamworth so there’s Junior carnivals all around the state great opportunity for lots of different age groups yeah I’ve beened I’m going to Sydney with Jeff wat and and the under 18 manager under 18 ground M ground Marshall they got to have all those sorts of things for that so um Jeff asked me I used to do the the the Colts under 19s out at Tamworth every year with Jeff Steve meon so Steve’s going to do is with the 16 okay um and you’ll go to the ad I’m going to go I’m going to fly down I couldn’t handle going on the bus with all those young fellas big big weekend coming up there for our Zone teams uh and yeah we’ll give a bit more information on that next week week but yeah certainly the Zone coaches and the players will be you know crossing their fingers that no one actually gets injured this weekend unfortunately it’s the nature of rugby there there will be people who get injured yeah hopefully they’ll only be minor injuries and they’ll all be able to do that and that that goes for the players the coaches and support staff the match officials the the match official coaches or mods as we call them now it’s it’s a huge weekend for everybody involved in country rugby so good luck to everybody now one other news on on the Juniors though the the board consulted with the Junior coordinators of the clubs during the week and resolved to make a decision on rounds one through three that were pretty much wash out yeah grounds and putting in a new by laws to state if there’s more than 50% of the grounds closed it’s a wash out round okay so the rounds one two three in the junior that were almost totally washed out rounds they’re going to be called null and void so they’ll all get two points two points and even they’ve told me asked me to put in the buys anyone had a buy and they’ll stay in all year they’ll get two points for a buy as well just to be fair and right across the board so everybody was only for 13 and 15s they’re the only two with to buy okay rather than the clubs trying to play some catchup games of Juniors for over the next couple of months they’ve just said okay let’s let’s call those three weeks not played share the points and let’s move forward from there it’s yeah very good very good that the the the the zone board has consulted the clubs and and found what they would like to do and that’s now the outcome yeah so while we’re still on Juniors though there’s one other really big news Old Tie Club yes the Old Tie Club I can’t remember the date but so old a luncheon every year which is a fundraiser for junior rugby uh it’s a huge event uh Phil walls a guest speaker full War what he do these days oh he’s the CEO no so he’s there full X test player 78 test matches I think it was CEO of rugby Australia so fantastic that they’ve been able to get him as a guest speaker for that luncheon uh it’s it’ll be on in the next couple of weeks yeah I know it’s gone back to its home yeah it is I thought it was the 28th of June I did have it written down but yeah it’s at Barn Barn Bay Bing Club he’s gone bar and balding Club $1 28th of June if you 11:30 a.m. start so anybody interested in in fundraising and having an enjoyable time while you’re doing it suggest you contact people within the clubs or the zone and get along to that lunch fantastic idea book a table I know the zones booked a table I’ve told Phil Gibson to come along to it and he’s I got to go away the next day I said you missed it last year make sure you come so he said I might just get Dean to go but uh and that’s on and also the at the board they’ve made it a call on a couple of Cubs have been trying to play catch up games right and they they’re not agreeing to dates and then they come back with a different date and all this sort of stuff so they’re going to give them 14 days to try and pick a date to catch up these games you know they don’t have to pay it within the 14 days to come back with us we got a date here we’re we’re both agreed to pay them so I can change it all in rug explor so the referees can know when to appoint to them and whatever yes um so all them games won’t take place until after the they want them to be all resolved before we get halfway through the comp right like end of the first round type thing but some clubs play each other twice before gets there because it’s to catch up the matches so they’re going to that’s what they’re going to do um and if they don’t do that the Zone’s going to pick a date and tell them you’re playing then when you’re playing good good I I don’t like those games hanging on and hanging on let’s get them played get them over done with they have been talking and we’ve got one being played on the Wednesday before the long weekend yes it’s Evans head playing the gold repats yes I heard about that yeah so that one’s on um and there’s no rep players in either of those sides so that they’ll be happy that makes sense because of course those players are then having the Weekend off yeah so great opportunity to do that catchup match yeah y okay so that pretty much covers the rugby for this week yeah I’m certainly does okay so thank you very much to way main once again thank you to Coopers thank you to Mark golf Media Sports for bringing this podcast and on behalf of Mark golf Media Sports Wayne and myself thank you very much try and get to some rugby this weekend we’ve got some good rugby going on on the Zone thank you see you next time [Music]
