Tommy Fleetwood says Rory McIlroy is “the Best of our Generation”

Tommy Fleetwood chats before the RBC Canadian Open. He shares his thoughts on various subjects including who the best player of our generation is.

it’s an event that I’ve enjoyed um yeah I sort of in a way surprised that I’ve only played it this will be my third Canadian open um had good results here I enjoy the way that um the golf course is set up in a Canadian open and and last year is uh clearly a a tournament an event that people are still talking about and probably will do for a long time in the future I um you know I I was very happy with the way I played last year I would have loved to for it to have gone my way but still uh very cool to be a part of and the support that I’ve had um from the fans here um and the people all involved in the tournament has been has been really really great so I do uh I do appreciate that I did uh an interview on the side of the green and then I went to the locker room collected my things and I left um that it’s just the nature of tournament golf um it wasn’t my time uh it was Nicks and the whole of Canada had um amazing moments to remember and cherish and um yeah you play the tournament when you finished you get your stuff and you leave and and you go on to the next one and uh that’s that’s just how it is you know I uh flew to the US Open and sort of tried to jump into that event as quickly as possible obviously knew I was playing well and I wanted to focus on that but um yeah I I had an absolutely fantastic time playing um and yeah once it’s done that’s just the nature of the game you uh pack up and leave yeah of course I was around the green for for a good sort of 10 you know 10 15 minutes um yeah amazing moments I I missed Adam getting tackled uh might have made me feel a bit better that one watching that uh um and yeah that something else to talk about but it was yeah of course like look it was a very special very special occasion and and you don’t get that every day but I think uh when you do it just um shines a light on the the coolest moments that Sport and the game can give I don’t know but I’d like to see it um you know I look I I still um I’ve said it a few times and I I you know I I never want to speak out a turn about other players I still believe from everything that I’ve experienced uh since I’ve been playing that Rory is the best of Our Generation Um I still believe that um however uh you know players do arrive and it’s hard to uh it’s hard to say anything um to back against Scotty Sheffer right now if you if you were a betting man I think it’s very hard to bet against Scotty Sheffer the way he’s playing um who knows it would be a great debate and you know it would be great to see um at any given time uh because it does happen really you know the the best players in the world and in the world rankings if you get two or three of them playing absolutely you know their best game it would be lovely to see um very difficult question I think golf courses do make a difference um but then I you know I also think you know you look at major championships are generally most of the time I think they’re a good indicator um of the best players in the world and you’ll look at the guys that end up at the top end of that Leaderboard on a major um and I think it always does for the most part does them Justice
