in Floren Park the Jets welcome Olu fashanu a tackle out of Penn State they picked him to beef up the line in front of Aaron Rodgers after spending the off season beefing up the line in front of Aaron Rodgers this is wise considering the Jets have learned the hard way that you really can never have enough good offensive lineman and they believe fashan is a good one H fashu uh is the pick he didn’t give up a sack in his entire uh career here in college kind of talked about a little bit the Jet’s depth on the offensive line we’ll get into some of the other positions that the Jets may still be looking at later in the show but just in terms of the offensive line how important did you think it was too shored up even though right now on paper you’ve got a starting five major and and I think what I’m surprised with is the hysteria of people that feel differently you can’t teach 66 right right that that helps and at the end of the day you talking about what uh Joe Douglas and solid say it’s about keeping eight upright job one protect Aaron yes yes Conor I’m happy to this BR I think I think he’s better pick I think everybody’s happy yeah a lot of Buzz was that the Jets were going to go for Brock Bowers if dun was not on the clock and apparently that was a smoke screen you know I think it gets handled this very well I think it gets handled this very smartly [Music] Welcome to New even know to do I’m just happy I don’t I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling for the last 24 hours ever since I’ve gotten that call I mean um I I didn’t want to tell too many people throughout the pre-draft process but uh the Jets it was it was the number one team for me especially after after how the top 30 visit went had a lot of really good conversations then you know beautiful facilities great people great Vibes so I just knew that this was the place for me what was the first thing that went through your mind when you saw the new J New Jersey area cod pop up in your I was like like dog no way like like this is actually happening like I’m like I’m really going to the team I want to go to like I feel like I feel like a lot of guys kind of like are either like fine with like a team that they’re going to but they end up not going to the team they want to but for me like this was the place I wanted to go to like this was the number one team I wanted to go to so when I when I heard my phone ringing and I saw that area code I was like oh my goodness like this this actually happened you know for a couple seconds when I uh when I picked up the phone it was like silent for like 2 or 3 seconds so I thought someone was like trolling me but when I when I Heard a Voice I was like oh my gosh like this is this is real like this is really happening so it’s it’s been awesome these are all Ring of Honor recipients you know going back to our Super Bowl a lot of the guys right around the the trophy there go date back to those teams you know R you bank with the coach we’ll get a little bit of history of the of the organization uh I think it should be okay okay three two I’m going take a few coach Salah and um Coach Carter those are really two good conversations I had we were watching through my film I was asking Coach Carter for tips and advice on things I can get better on and it was just a really good conversation same thing with um Mr Douglas had a great conversation with him he has a lot of ties to the East Coast in my area where I’m from and also the he has a couple ties with Penn State as well so you know it was all just great Vibes the whole time congratulations we got some new reps I don’t have good question nobody ask question all right what’s going on the press conference first and then we’re taking pictures of Jersy okay question honestly it it is pretty hard to describe I mean it’s it’s everything that I’ve imagined it’d be you know I’ve worked I’ve worked so hard for this moment and for it to finally you know come true I mean it means everything to me to be able to you know spend that night with all my family and friends the the people who supported me throughout this entire journey and for me sitting down on that couch and seeing that new jersey number the the ring I mean it it again it was just everything it was just it was just the world it me it meant the world to me oh this talk about the influence your parents have had on you doing this journey yeah I mean I’ll I’ll say it plain and simple I mean I I would not be here without them um you know the the way that they rais me on the on the basis of love respect and discipline especially discipline and I felt like that played a really big part of my life especially during college you know just being able to take care of business on and off the field for an offense offensive line is the engine of the offense if the o line doesn’t have a good game typically the offense doesn’t have a good game because either you can’t create lanes for your running back or or you can’t keep your quarterback up so I think it’s I think the o line even though generally it’s been a very underappreciated position it’s growing more in popularity as the years go by but um yeah I mean you you’ll only go as far as your o line takes you for me I’m going to be the same person every day I’m going to come into the facilities I’m going to work my tail off I’m going to ask questions on ways that I can get better and I’m going to make the most out of every rep that I get you know during OTAs a mini camp all of that so for me it’s all about developing myself but also making sure that I’m putting myself in the best position to help the team wi y everyone good all right thank you the new y Giants have submitted their pick Minnesota is now on the clock Johnson let’s get this did not play college ball he played last season in the CFL how did we get there all right so here’s the thing he had a scholarship offer to play at HBCU laying college but his freshman season was canceled due to co shortly after that he lost his father tragically in a car accident and gave up his football dream he said quote why play football if your biggest fan couldn’t be there is this an opportunity to potentially promote that stump the truck is coming up this is what I see do we have quantz the you got see a bell tape but the question is do you have tape from Lane College how about the fan controlled football leag that turned into an opportunity in the CFL and last year he earned the League’s most outstanding rookie award when he picked off five passes in 16 games now he’s headed to the NFL he’s a fifth round pick of the New York Jets monz what’s happening man man just just chilling man excited man really really enjoy this process man going to get a Super Bowl you fired about to be announced I could see in the background the crew that flies in from Southern California wherever there’s a draft about to come on out and announce what’s going on with the Mr Irrelevant weekend all leading to this final pick all fans can root for the underdog so with the final but maybe not irrelevant pick with a 257th pick in the 2024 NFL draft the New York Jets select what’s up man it’s Robert Salah man we’re uh we’re pumped I know it’s been I know it’s been a long weekend but I promise you’re ending up in a really really cool spot um with a great group of teachers and a great group of teammates man and uh couldn’t be more fired up to get you in this position and uh be excited cuz it’s going to be special oh yeah sir most definitely Jaylen key a defensive back from Alabama good luck Mr [Applause] Irrelevant the Jets and Joe Douglas have nailed this draft nailed it as good as it gets uh just before the questions um I can’t thank our staff enough uh coaching staff scouting staff analytics football admin uh trainers everyone um came together throughout this entire process and feel like we had a lot of fun over the weekend we added a lot of quality players to this team and our types of guys guys that we’re all excited to add so board kind of fell our way so um with the amount of players that we that we had that are that we liked we we were able to trade big deal I don’t know that we can over Aon back there you got a potential to win any game that you play in because of how he plays last year the Jets started new they brought in Aaron Rogers it’s like New Beginnings playoffs Super Bowl here we come four plays into the season he goes down and now everything everything has turned into 2024 we’re going to go all in welcome to an electrified MetLife Stadium there goes Bree de down I’m just excited to watch this Jets defense and they had a player that could be a high impact player America can’t wait and this stadium has a buzz about it that group could be among the best in the NFL New York but what do you see this looking like it’s very easy to see all this coming together in a really cool way because the players fit so well [Applause] [Music]
