RBC Canadian Open in Hamilton: Everything you need to know



The RBC Canadian Open has returned to Hamilton.

Throughout the seven day event, the Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ancaster will be bustling with activity.

Between May 27 and June 2, spectator events, live concerts, and road closures will be taking place.

Road Closures and Parking
Between May 27 and May 30, road closures will occur from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Between May 31 to June 1, road closures will occur from 7 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.

A final day of road closures will occur on June 2 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Access to Golf Links Road from Southcote Road, McNiven Road and Halson Street will be limited. Only those with hang-tags will be permitted.

Those living in and around the Pinecrest neighbourhood will have to access their community from Southcote Road.

This closure will not pertain to municipal service vehicles (e.g., trash pickup and emergency services), and allowance will be made on a case-by-case basis for private service vehicles that are clearly marked.

Parking for the event will be available at the Ancaster Fair Grounds. The City of Hamilton will operate a complimentary shuttle service to and from the event.

Scheduled Events and Tee Times
The event’s first three days will be filled with setup and several mixed events featuring professional and amateur players.

On May 27, the Hamilton course will be quiet as setup begins. The tournament’s final qualifier will take place at TPC Toronto.

On May 28, the course will celebrate Hall of Fame Day, and players will have the chance to play some practice rounds starting at 7 a.m.

On May 29, the RBC Championship Pro-Am will tee off at 6:30 a.m.

The first big day of the event will get underway on May 30, when the first round of play starts at 7 a.m.

A concert will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., featuring music sets from Loud Luxury and Frank Walker.

On May 31, the second round of play will tee off at 7 a.m.

July Talk and Our Lady Peace will host two concerts that evening, from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On June 1, the third round of play will begin at 9:20 a.m.

It will be the final night of live music featuring Josh Ross and Lindsay Ell from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

June 2 will mark the event’s final day, with the championship round getting underway at 8:20 a.m.

The closing ceremony will start at 6 p.m. and a champions reception will follow that evening from 7 p.m. until 9:45 p.m.

Tickets
All of the tickets sold to event will allow visitors access to the grounds where they’ll be able to get close up views of their favorite PGA players.

Many ticket options are already sold out, but a few packages remain.

They start at $30 with the final day of play costing $120. Some VIP packages remain available too.

Steve mentioned it starting today it’s the 113th edition of the RBC Canadian opening happen happening right here in Hamilton round one was today and that’s where we find Eric vienu who joins us live with the latest on how things are going did you have some fun Eric yeah Matt I mean look at my shirt I was obviously dressed for the occasion and obviously as you see it really calmed down right now however earlier in the day you know the course was just absolutely bust wrestling with fans out here enjoying the RBC Canadian open this year and you know as Steve mentioned it was a super nice day today I can say that I was outside all day I didn’t want to sit inside the media tent all day cuz it was just the most perfect day to watch and play golf now the last time that this event was held in Hamilton was back in 2019 so obviously lots of excitement among golf fans in the city but there’s also a lot of excitement with the city itself specifically when it comes to the benefits for tourism and in business it’s a really big uh National event they’re expecting up to 130,000 people through the course over the week the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce says that number translates into dollars for local business the economic impact of this event is huge I believe it’s forecasted to have over $66 million in economic impact that’s going to you know just Ripple throughout our committee you look at how every hotel room is sold out this weekend uh the fact that we get to showcase our incredible culinary scene to fans Who come out to the open will find plenty to do alongside the gulf it’s a total sport entertainment property uh concerts uh every night this week Thursday night Friday night and Saturday night starting to uh tonight this evening about 8:15 loud luxury takes the stage so uh something for everybody and many Spectators will be coming from outside of Hamilton a good opportunity Hamilton tourism says to make a good impression a lot of people may be experiencing Hamilton for the first time uh so whether that’s somebody coming from Toronto or somebody hopping on a plane internationally so really it’s a it’s a great chance for us to make a a first impression the community just leans in so well to this tournament really supports it uh not just Hamilton but kind of Southwestern Ontario Niagara region a record 28 Canadians are in the 156 player field including dz’s McKenzie Hughes Ancaster Michael Blair and Burlington’s Michael gilic all vying for the $9.4 million prize it’s been a great start to uh the week beautiful sun skies blue skies we’re off and running now we can’t forget last year’s RBC Canadian open that was when the Canadian Nick Taylor took the title and that was a really historic win because before that it had been 90 sorry 90 uh sorry 69 years to be exact that a Canadian had won the title so he’s definitely going to be looking to keep that title this time around however there is one Challenger that people are keeping their eyes on as as well in this and it’s Northern Ireland’s Rory mroy who is looking to win his third Canadian open title Matt I’ll send it back inside to you
