Defeating the Allegations: Timberwolves Big Men and Scottie Scheffler, Plus IYHH and Voicemails

Bomani Jones starts the episode off by addressing the public regarding his take about the Nuggets advancing to the Finals while also asking the question why his thoughts on the Timberwolves were wrong in the public eye. Bomani recaps Game 7 by giving respect to Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert for their performances but also reiterating the fact that they didn’t fully beat the allegations. Then Bomani transition to golf where he shares his thoughts on the Scottie Scheffler arrest and the cultural reaction to that incident. ladies and gentlemen welcome to the right time a wave sports and entertainment original presented by prize picks my name is bman Jones thanks for listening wherever you get your podcast thanks for watching us on YouTube subscribe like rate US review us give us five stars you only give us four stars I’m inclined to believe you are a hater uh we’re g to talk a little bit about you know white folks getting arrested a little later in the show but first uh gotta say you know I’ve been doing this job for many years now and one might argue that this is an indicator of a certain measure of coward is I think that this is a reflective of actual self-awareness but I try not to really get too definitive on the who going to win takes and stuff like that cuz I acknowledge that I don’t really know right like I’m not I’m not really good at that and I mean I also like I got no problem admitting this part I don’t really enjoy being blatantly wrong in public it’s just it’s just it’s just not my idea of a good time I can deal with being wrong I don’t think that being wrong is that big of a deal my problem is y’all think being wrong is a very big deal which therefore requires me when I am wrong as anybody is welcome to be from time to time y’all going to make such a big old goddamn deal out of it now I don’t have a problem with being wrong I got a problem that you got with me being wrong even though the real issue is y’all are wrong all the time except duh I don’t know who you [ __ ] are so you just get to be wrong over there quietly and don’t nobody care except you and your wrong friends right meanwhile everybody know me and so you come over with your Madness and your nonsense and frustrates me okay I readily acknowledge that so I kind of try to temper things just a little bit right some people are better at this than others but I am not a troll therefore I just try to be as level about this as I possibly can but I find it to be imperative I find it to be very important that when these times do come up and I’m wrong even if I’ve done a measure of tempering you got to come out here and say that you was wrong now I was wrong about something with the Minnesota temple wolves and the Denver Nuggets obviously I was wrong because I thought that Denver was going to win the series and they did not okay um I was wrong about something with Minnesota but I’m gonna be honest with you I’m not exactly sure what it is now now now Sean I had something happen during the game right and because of the way we doing the show for the YouTube people we could probably put this up on the screen I sent a tweet at the end of the first half that I was surprised turned out to be as polarizing as it was when the truth was I thought I was making um a somewhat profound point which was at first half Carl Town shot five for six for 13 points while also doing a series a boneheaded Carl towns things did you see when he did that thing and he was trying to dribble by that dude and then he put his arm around him like like he was trying to make it h like it was that right time in the movie and you try to bring her close and I just couldn’t figure out why that would ever be your strategy it was just it was silly Carl towns fouling right like those sorts of things happened and I said that he was having one of those first halves that make us all feel right about Carl chaples no matter how you felt about him going in you came out of that feeling like you was right man I had all these people yo you Ain G like call the reason they losing what what now I’m G be honest with you generally speaking with Carl number one I’m not trying to say he the reason they losing but he the reason they ain’t winning subtle distinction but a very important one right but on that one I saw it he was getting buckets when nobody else was getting buckets in part because clearly Denver had made the decision Carl gonna have to beat us and not Anthony Edwards and how did I know that because they had the ironically named Christian Brown on him playing one-on-one defense and even then Carl was like damn I guess I got to do Post move right did you see that where uh they were walking in the tunnel and Anthony Edward said that Carl towns was the baddest big in the league and I didn’t honestly I thought that Carl towns would be offended by that yeah I it is funny that like the way the reaction happened with your Tweet because at the end of the day everything you said about Carl he still did he still he still had five fouls he still did boneheaded moves but you always do talk about the good in Carl of like well he’ll give you buckets when you need he’s uh you know he’ll defend when you need but it’s like you know you were right say I I was I don’t know I was wrong about something right because I’ll give him this and maybe this is where this playoff thing comes in handy because he still committed a bunch of fouls and they allow for a bunch more contact and he was like his defensive strategy against yic was I’mma just hit this dude over and over and over again and no matter what you think about it no matter what you think about Carl towns as a defensive player they turned joic into fake Dirk and he was just out there shooting threes and missing them over and over and over again right in the end the MVP didn’t do what you need the MVP to do in that time you can say they were Gass you can say whatever it was but what you should be able to do with a guy like that is hold up let me get this easy bucket right fast and they weren’t able to get not he was not able to get easy buckets they weren’t really able to get easy buckets through him you could make the argument that he was throwing the ball out and getting dudes open shots but them shots was still from way far away right and this is before we get to the fact that they had a 20po lead and Anthony Edwards was playing terribly because you made the whole decision that we just gonna shut Anthony Edwards down the next thing you know that comeback was going and it was going and the Denver was calling timeouts and stopping like all right cool but this is where they going to turn it around cuz they the Champs right this is where they going to turn it around cuz they the Champs and then it didn’t happen right you saw a couple moments where it got a little bit close but in the end the Minnesota Timberwolves walked them down like they were the Champs straight walked them down that defense where it looked like the 85 Bears they showed back up right I think a big thing you got to wonder this series might ended in five I mean six rather looking back on it if Conley wasn’t hurt for game five because I do think that that made a big difference but I was stunned that they were so poised and the Nuggets weren’t it’s crazy to look at the box score and see that Anthony Edwards went two of 10 from three nikic also went two of 10 from three but it was like the tailor two tapes it’s just it’s it is the opposite of what you’ve been preaching about the Nuggets being the Champs the Wolves actually had that Championship mindset in the second half yo but this is what got me was there was a stretch in the second half where Edwards was out and joic was in and I’m like okay your best players in the game their best players not in the game you got to win these minutes and it kept coming back the other way it just kept coming back now I have been a big proponent of the Michael Porter experience for Denver but one thing that seemed to be clear was they didn’t have a guard who could guard Anthony Edwards like maybe kcp could have done it if he wasn’t banged up but he could not guard Anthony Edwards that meant that Aaron Gordon had to guard Anthony Edwards which meant that Aaron Gordon could not guard Carl towns which meant that Denver didn’t really have anybody that could do it and the reason they didn’t have anybody who could do it is because 6 foot1 Michael Porter can’t guard Carl Anthony towns right now it’s not I mean he he’s his body has been through things right and when you see like the contraption that he’s got to wear just you know to stop they worried about him getting drop foot and all of this stuff but he could not be the guy to guard Towns at the very least to stop him from getting buckets and you need that but come on man every one of us knew when that game was over you knew when that game was over I knew sometimes you just look up and you realize man we just not going to win this game game we all had the same moment when we knew that that game was not being won by the Minesota I mean by the uh denber nuggets and that was when the shot clock was running down and Rudy goar shot a turnaround Jay over yic that he ain’t even think was gonna go in that’s when everybody was just kind of like oh boy this is a wrap and it didn’t just go in it was like a pure swish like just pure it was a wrap it was over it was done and now this team with that guy out in front even with not having a good game there I feel like that’s a game they won with tarity right like not even putting their terms of heart they were down 20 on the road at altitude in that place that was rocking the way it was and they steadily brought it back steadily brought it back and they watch the guys on the other side steadily fall apart steadily fall apart and then at the end and this is why that full you got that full Carl towns experience they got Denver made that shot Carl’s the inbound man and he’s running up and down the Baseline he is on tilt he is clearly on tilt tries to throw the ball in bounds turns it over so here’s what’s funny about it right my man Vinnie’s at the game covering the game right he’s obviously going to see things before we do at home there is a delay I never had the heart to tell him this during the game but there was a delay right and so right after Carl after I see on my screen that Carl Anthony towns has messed up on the inbounds I get a text that says Carl from Vinnie with an exclamation point but it’s Dawning on me he’s not talking about it couldn’t have been that I’ve already detected that we have a delay it couldn’t have been that that he was talking about what is he talking about and it come down to the other end and Minnesota misses that shot and Carl Anthony TOS gets the tip dunk for quite possibly the most important Basket in the history of that franchise to seal the game he did it he did it like no matter what somebody like me has to say he did it now this is the question somebody asked me have Carl and Rudy gobear defeated the allegations and the allegation is that they are 14 feet of Sucker that is again an allegation not a statement of fact the question is asked have they defeated the allegation that they are 14 feet of sucker and I have to say they definitely put up a good fight against that allegation I don’t think they defeated it defeated like did they knock out the allegation they knocked out the Nuggets I give them that did they knock out the allegation and see the case for them knocking out the allegation is the fact that Anthony Edwards did not play well and they still won that game that is the case that being said uh and Sean you tell me if I’m wrong here but uh yic was still dining on Rudy Gober dining I tell you he dined on Rudy goar um towns he played well although would you believe this it didn’t feel like this in the game he was one for six from three it just yeah did it’s such a that was such a Carl performance right I mean maybe it was just cuz I saw that one and I was like oh Carl’s on tonight that first half I was like oh Carl’s all the night uh I don’t know if they have defeated the allegations I’m going be honest but I not Carl on the fact that the plus minus game they’re normally better with nas Reed on the floor than Carl not the case in this game Carl played 39 minutes had a plus 10 Nas Reed was a minus five right so can’t say that about him can’t say he didn’t step up defensively right he played defense the way he normally plays defense which is normally not enough but it got the job J done you can’t knock him on that there’s nothing coming out of that game that you could really say hey man knocking Carl towns he and Rudy did commit a bunch of fouls don’t get me wrong but you can’t knock him on that but to defeat the allegations it can’t go to the cards still it it’s going to the cards right you’re not in this case they beat the Nuggets by knocking them out the allegations that’s still got to go to the cards and you’re not going to Beat the Champ on the cards yeah I I think I think they still got a long ways to go I think if they do win the whole thing and put up really great performances and shut down the rest of the big men I I think then maybe but you know still who who’s to say the Denver series is going to be interesting though I mean not Denver Dallas that’ll be interesting because Dallas hey Rudy is a big man he is not simply a tall man right like he has tall man you know he tall man in the mind but like in terms of actual application I could make a better argument for Big Man uh Carl towns is tall man certainly Dallas got tall man right Derek Lively Lively is a tall man uh what’s his name gaffard he is a tall man PJ Washington yeah they got like they don’t they don’t have the kinds of players that I think of as being like the ones that’ll punish you for having towns and for having go bear however I also don’t think they’re the kinds of guys that towns can punish you for having right so we’ll see how that goes how much is Anthony Edwards going to have to guard LCA donic like you can say he’s going to guard Kyrie by the way that game there that Oklahoma City Dallas game you want to talk about one that was excellent that that game that finish the whole nine the West the West is the west of David Stern’s nightmares boy Minnesota Denver uh Oklahoma City uh Whata call it uh San Antonio about to on to come up it’s the no dot Olympics over there in the west all the cities that ain’t got no dots boy they good as hell meanwhile the Lakers play in coming one more time maybe that maybe that maybe that would be the good thing for David star get them play in ratings up I got no idea but the little bitty cities coming up over there in the west we got that one uh Sean I forgot you traded um your hometown Knicks for the Quasi Hometown Houston Rockets back in the ya Ming day so I know that you’re not a Nick’s fan but it was kind of sad watching him go out like that you know I think uh I think just seeing a lot of my friends on the timelines and various group chats like doing the whole you know it was a good run you know it’s still successful season it it comes off very sad because I’m like you know they have to stay positive and the injuries are stuff that’s out of their control but yeah I I think I was rooting for them to some degree vers all the Nicks haters in the world who were like why is ESPN so Nicks heavy right now and it’s like do not understand how television and media and narratives work let me let me help you out with a little something let me give you two things I’m going to give you a copy of the census and I’m going to give you a calculator with those two things you might be able to make sense of what is going on now I do think they went too far right like I do I think that I think that leaning all the way in as though the Knicks are the only thing that matters misses the point I do think though and I find it Charming about the Knicks and nicks fans that their ability to give the Ovation to the dudes like my man Dante Dante a big gang player don’t forget this man Dante is the most outstanding player of a final four Once right like Dante a big game player played a big game their ability to still save space and give Applause to those dudes as they was coming off the floor you know at the end of this this was a it’s a season that meant something to people it’s a season that felt good to them they were never going to win no damn Championship everybody knows that right so I appreciate I appreciate this City’s ability to appreciate a team like that right because again you got remember this about Nicks fans they ain’t never had nothing to be happy about not in the last 50 years like I saw somebody talking something about um online it was making a point about how John Starks and those guys never won anything but they treated like Heroes at the Garden they should should be yeah people love those teams like I don’t think your relationship to your basketball team has to be so conditional like in Memphis they love those teams with Zebo Tony Allen Mark Gasol Mike Mike Conley all those guys are gonna get their jerseys retired they never got past the Conference Finals but you can understand it a little different with the Grizzlies because you feel like they should just be happy to have a team what the difference between the Nicks and The Grizzlies over the last inert number of years what’s the difference no they love joh starts right they love those guys that’s what it should be and so it was cool to see that uh Tyrese halberton came in there running his Yap I do agree with the people that say if he was gonna wear the Reggie Miller shirt he should have worn it before the game I don’t think you get the Hedge on something like that I think you should wear it before the game yeah it doesn’t hit the save you gotta be like Shay Gil Alexander boy did you see I don’t know if he wore a 2 The Arena he had to did you see that patent leather vest that he had on that the end of after they lost that game six crazy yo let me tell you something dwade used to come to them games dressed all crazy right like he’s a he was a uh a pioneer of the jacket no shirt look right like back when that looked extra crazy he come in there looking extra crazy but not if it was a close out and there was a chance they could get closed out no sir he wasn’t wearing that stuff Shay came out that bad boy I’m like is that what a pro wants is that what a pro needs cuz uh bruh couldn’t be me he out there trying to explain how they lost the season in a pat leather vest and I’m just like hey hey you gotta account for that possibility before you show up to the arena you should have been dressed like a very serious person I I would had sweats on you know I would have been like I’m too tired to change I’m just wearing what I wore like do that mean we get to we ain’t got to watch that commercial no more no they’re just going to run that they’re going to keep running that it is brutal convinced that commercial and the one with Melo and perk yeah I this is something I learned during game theory right because the other kind of work I didn’t really didn’t involve this sort of stuff and that is how hard it can be to take a great idea and make it into a great piece of work right like somebody that first day was like imagine in this Carmelo Dwayne Wade and LeBron and they’re talking about advice and then we show pictures of them in their big suits from the draft they’re like yo that’ll work and they’re like Melo you gonna be able to get Dwayne I I I think I can get Dwayne and then you can’t get Dwayne right and then you call Chris BOS he don’t answer phone numbers he don’t recognize right and so now you got to go back through the rest of it and then somebody pull up a picture of TJ Ford in his draft suit which I don’t know if you remember that one Sean but it was a legendary swave of fabric right a whole lot of fabric right and so you get him and then they’re like hey perk was in that draft and then you go get him but the problem is with the TJ Ford we are basketball nerds not only do we remember the TJ Ford suit which makes us different than the average viewer this is a very important part we also remember TJ Ford right and look I’m from Houston I remember him in a different way he means something very important but how many people like yo who is that guy and how many actual basketball fans cuz damn you ain’t seen TJ Ford in a minute right and then they went and they shot it and it just but it was too late to shoot another one like that’s what it felt like right boxy boys that was that was that was y’all come on man but as an idea it started off on hit and you were like don’t worry I’ll pull it together and that happens sometimes your great idea doesn’t become a great thing the what appro I don’t know who the hell thought that that was the song y’all said it WR they don’t even know the song like they were not born when that song came out I I that to me is like it makes me so angry whenever that commercial comes on and if you were born and I want to say that song came out in 1999 and look I could be wrong okay maybe dudes was listening to that [ __ ] then right I in in real time they were all pretending like they weren’t all right maybe they were maybe they were but again another one that seemed like a great idea but you know what happened them dudes can’t act that’s what happened I can’t imagine if that’s what they stopped on that was the best take that’s what I’m saying that was the dude it’s it’s nothing like I can’t really act but if you need me to do something in a pinch I can make it work right like I can make it happen but there’s nothing like when you got an idea in mind but you need somebody else to act and you’re like oh damn they they can’t act so instead these two dudes who just looking for a little shine they have not been represented positively by these commercials anyway I feel like we don’t we shouldn’t have to watch them no more if if they’re not going to be there seems only right but you know those ad money the the ad spend is never going to stop yes yes and by the way shout out to you Boston Celtics we have had no reason to actually talk about you we are being so unfair to them when they roll through the East and they’re going to roll through the East we’re not going to talk about how dominant they are we just going we’re going to have no conversation about it whatsoever it’s just not that important but let them lose two games to the Pacers we right there dog we right there we right there we going to be all up in your business so uh Friday morning minding my own business Friday is a bit of an off day for me because of our recording schedule with this podcast and I look up and they say that Scotty sheffler who is the number one golfer in the world has been arrested on his way to the PGA uh championship right now number one I have to admit I was a little surprised that those guys drive themselves around I know I’m not the only person that was surprised by that I don’t drive like when I’m on this sort of business I don’t drive myself around it’s a it’s a work trip yeah like I would think for a number of reasons including the reason that we wound up with this is why you don’t let like I would think that guy would not drive himself but anyway tragically there was an accident with a pedestrian that morning pedestrian died rest in peace and so that like rerouted traffic or whatever and I don’t know what happened exactly people calling it a miscommunication whatever but there was a roadblock Scotty Sheffer was like yeah but I got to get to work and so he drove around the roadblock and then after driving around the road block 5 came and got him tried to pull him out the window and they stopped that when he opened the car door and then pulled him out of the car door and then they jacked him up and then they like hooked him up right cuffed him put him in the car but but but what Johnny law was not expecting was that reporters were there Jeff darlon of ESPN was there I think there was another ESPN reporter and he got he was out there doing his line of duty thing you know what I’m saying he got out there with his camera taking video asking questions and then I man it was tough man it was a black cop that was like he going to jail and I was like oh boy I can tell you right now this is going to turn into a phenomenon on the internet this is this this this is going to get this is going to get weird all kinds of wires about to get crossed and scrambled now this white man that got jacked up by the law the black man is saying he going to jail and with a with the tinge of he should have complied he didn’t say it immediately but a tinge of he shouldn’t comply now everybody’s heads are messed up on what they supposed to do white folks ain’t really trying to back the blue all right and black people black people not every black person but I’mma Be honest my people it sounded kind of like a lot of y’all was wishing that man that got shot or beat that’s the vibe that look that’s the vibe I’m getting because let’s be real about this they jacked that man up for no good reason there was absolutely no reason for them to be as aggressive with him as they were apparently the car had to PGA logos on it all of this stuff right they ain’t need to do that man like that try to pull him through the window they ain’t need to do that man like that they locked him up they actually took him to jail they actually had him they actually dressed him up like a tangerine they actually did the uh mugshot with him all this stuff now don’t get me wrong he got in and out and got to work on time like that’s not an average situation clearly somebody put in a call and was like can you get this dude out of jail please right like like this this clearly some things got greased after they realized what had happened but I had people hitting me up being like well what would they have done if it was Scotty shabaz they tried to put him through the car window for this like that’s pretty shabazi treatment as far as I’m concerned we don’t get shot for everything right like it’s a good chance don’t get me wrong but come on now they did that man wrong and I got people basically talk about they should have done him wrong I don’t know if you I don’t know if you watched his post game presser after his round but he said when he got to the station he eventually had to say his name and the people booking him realized who it was and they asked him hey Scotty do you want the full treatment like do you want to go through the whole thing and he was like I guess I have to which is why he was in that get up they gave him the sandwich that they give you like he had it all and it was like even he even expressed he was like that was a little weird that they asked me that hold on he treated it like it was Fantasy Camp yeah was like make a wish okay give him the VIP tour it’s like he got that tour like when you go to the and you all want to waited line right like like that was oh okay I had no idea that he just wanted to know what the full thing are one of my favorite things was ESPN had Marty uh Marty Smith come on and Marty was like you know what a real experience you know Marty I looked up the exact time Marty from a town right in Virginia right over the West Virginia line and when Marty talked about the dude being in the orange jumpsuit Marty was talking about that with a much more knowing tone not that Marty himself had been in that jumpsuit but Marty had to get somebody out of jail before like that was kind of the like like that was the that Marty’s the one to be like wow they got him out fast you know like Marty Marty done seen some things been around some people whatever it is so they got him in there they got him out he came back he came to the first team man they was clapping like that dude just got back from fujia like they was clapping for him like like like what if John McCain had played golf in 1974 or whatever year that was that was the way that they were clapping for for him when he got out there and I was just blown away I got white people just talking about how the PO how the police how wrong they were and what they was doing I got white people in my mentions talk about how sure they mad that how sure they are that I’m mad that the dude wound up getting out of jail I’m like it’s clear that they did this man wrong I ain’t rooting for none of this now are two Americas did Collide we did have that happen I did have to I mentioned this on Twitter but I’mma say it again if people were asking me were white people going to be confused about whether to root for the police or root for the golfer and I’m like well maybe there’s levels to this right because there’s a lot of golfers that are like the insufferable class or whatever but I don’t think that I don’t think that the white people who watch golf really think about those people as being those people because you don’t ever see their personalities so that side of them you don’t really get right but my daddy is from o there Louisiana he went to Southern University for a little bit he that’s what he does he roots for Southern and he always talks about the thing about the Bayou Classic is he doesn’t hate gramling he said he only roots for Grambling I mean he only Roots against Grambling when they playing Southern he’s like when gam gramlin plays somebody else he roots for them every time right and that’s how it is with white people and the police when the police is playing against the Jackson states of the world you know what I’m saying when when the police is playing against us or the police is playing against uh la la un Deana right they they rooting for the police in that case Sean even against y’all they rooting for the police in those cases but when the police get into it with white people oh no no no no they rooting for the home team they know what time it is like think about this you know what the police do they tell people what to do do you read the news what what about white people is is all is is about being told what to do every time it’s a goddamn problem it’s because somebody tried to tell a white man what to do they might blow this whole thing up once this thing come down then white folks up there where they where then white folks up there where they like they mad at black people even though ain’t no black people for hundreds of miles away like the the Bund the cats up there in Idaho in Montana and all that they hate the police they can’t stand them if the if if they don’t need the police to be out here doing nothing to us then all the police are is an impediment to they good time they don’t love the police well none of them about to be rooting for the police as I be listening to a little bit more of that country music you realize that too then any song in country music that mention the police it ain’t thinking officer friendly it’s about officer friendly being up in your craw or whatever Country Ass term that they would use to describe what them circumstances were so yeah as I saw that was going down I just watch the internet is so clearly become a place where people just go to be mad that we couldn’t even laugh like ESPN don’t know what to do in a circumstance like that they was using all they Sol solemn tones and you know everything that happened this morning and you know for him to make it to the tea that’s all they got under those circumstances I told you about it that one time when Riley Cooper got caught at the uh Kenny ch concert saying he was going to fight all the nword there and ESPN called me to be on the air and talk about it and they got the wrong one cuz all I had was jokes right because the only Playbook they got under them circumstances is to take it seriously because TV don’t know how to have fun when funny stuff like that happens and I’m sorry that man getting jacked up by the law on his way in to work was hilarious everything in the way that it played out was dark comedy ey ironic goodness and I will add a little more dark comedy and a little more ironic goodness to this by hitting you guys with a point that so like and I was thinking about this there been a lot of discussion lately about how athletes from different sports would perform if they were engaged in different activities right it’s caused a lot of lot of lot of beef really a lot of salty football players if you’re going to be honest about this right they mad enough the basketball players make more money than them then somebody had the nerve to say that they can play football right but it was a lot of you know basketball player wouldn’t be able to do this in our sport like people try to throw out LeBron LeBron would get crushed da da da all of this stuff right you know and I mean it’s a Preposterous thing to try to make a comparison between an athlete from one sport an athlete in another and just like you know it’s hard to do right it’s preposterous but all I’mma say is this our man uh Scotty Scotty went to jail he got out and for the weekend I want to say he shot a 13 under that had him tied for eighth eight Strokes behind uh the winner and all I’mma say is go to court come out and compete Kobe would have won that tournament that’s all I’m saying he need some M need Scotty need to go get him some Mamba mentality Kobe Kobe wouldn’t even needed to but he’d have caught a helicopter from that jail he’d have landed he’d have been wearing them aiat shades with the Mir front face he’d have come out there he’d have been so locked in we wouldn’t be talking about oh Xander none of that no sir Kobe would have won the whole damn thing playoff basketball is heating up and prize picks is the most simple way to get in on the action you just select two or more players pick more or less on their projected stats and submit your lineup quick withdrawals easy game playay and an enormous selection of players and Stat types of what makes prize picks the number one fantasy sports app but rather than hear from me let’s hear from somebody who actually uses prize picks Sean how the prizes picks going for you you know Bo you win some you lose some and uh I’ve had some close breaks this playoffs but to me the best part about priz picks is the injury Assurance they offer so that your lineup stay play even if you know one of your players gets hurt this playoff basketball season so let’s say your player exits a game in the first half and doesn’t return price piix has your back and it won’t count as a loss and look not that I want um injuries to happen in the playoffs it’s reassuring I I won’t get penalized for it no that’s a big deal there you go Sean is asking for injuries in the playoffs guys it’s that kind of guy anyway make sure you go to prize.com bomman and use code bowmani for a first deposit match up to $100 that’s prize.com bomman prize picks daily fantasy sports Made [Music] Easy hey it’s almost summer which means more time outdoors I personally love going for a walk in and information of the day no need for the social media feeds we got you now if you haven’t heard all right Bo here is our first story of the day last Monday open AI unveiled the latest and most powerful model GPD 40 with a stunning live demo the model has various improvements in its capacities and efficiency and when running a the chat GPT app on an iPhone it appeared to fulfill all the promises that Siri Google assistant and other mobile assistants have failed to make good on over the past decade this souped-up chat gbt had a sense of humor it was able to describe live video footage to the camera and it even translated between English and Italian in real time demos are of course just demos and this one was by no means perfect but it certainly felt like the death nail for Siri and all its Brethren and big smartphone manufacturers seem to know it too Apple Google Samsung and others have all been working furiously of late to get generative AI onto their devices the open AI demo Also may have put an end to a recent wave of AI gadgets like a wearable pin from the AI company Humane those devices specifically designed to run AI have so far been plagued by an embarrassing number of bucks combining a camera microphone screen and advanced software is after all really hard but the iPhone Android devices and other smartphones have all already nailed this making them the perfect vessels for people to carry an AI assistant around in their pocket and everyone already has one what’s most exciting about the latest smartphone these days isn’t a new megapixel added to the camera but New Abs and features it’s all about software at tech companies are all in on AI as the software of the future if these assistants end up being as powerful as open AI markets them and it’s still a big if given how prone to misinformation and bias and other issues chat Bots have been but if it does the Monday’s demo might also augur an entirely new role for smartphones in our lives as the most convenient vehicles for generative AI here’s my question on this and I asked this sincerely Sean do you be using Siri or these other things because I never do no I was I was just about to say that like I don’t use Siri I have a Google home and I’m more I get more annoyed by it than anything else cuz that thinks I’m talking to it when I’m talking about something else and I’m just like can you shut up and let me cook my dinner you know yeah like I’m going be honest I see like the value in some of these things and a good point that’s been made about AI is that it’s as bad as it’s ever going to be which is a blessing and curse sort of situation but like I look at people who be using the Siri all the time and I’m like how about you just stop being lazy have you thought about not being lazy cuz it never see you seem like you got to say something to that over and over again no Siri I said my head hurts right like you just keep going over and over again back and forth with it I’m just like maybe I’ll be I’m just scared like if I G be honest man I’m just scared yeah and I watched a little of this demo for this open Ai and it it it does seem a lot easier in terms of like you said like listening and the response back but I don’t like that then like I don’t like how good it’s becoming that it almost makes me want to use it less like you’re were saying oh man it’s just all a little spooky all a little spooky what else we got all right here we go last week for the Atlantic I wrote about the yawning void that awaits every Sports parent at the end of their kids’s final game it’s not just the sudden and confusing abundance of free time but a loss of purpose we Face even if we’d admitted it to No One not even ourselves we all harbored the dream of our kid going all the way to the pros the camera finding us in the stands during the playoffs the announcer saying there is the man who taught him to skate this piece is really a kind of memoir focused on my life with my son in the car at The Rinks and tournaments who played his first hockey game at age five I grapple with my own role in his recent decision to quit retire after a dozen years on the ice now and then I lost myself in the effort to get him onto the best teams with the best coaches into the biggest situations but the real test came when he sat me down to say it was time to hang him up it was his life but my dream and he was asking me to let it go our roles felt strangely reversed he was the adult making a careful decision I was the kid who didn’t understand but I did know this it was his love of hockey that made him so good he played with joy without that it was not going to work and now it’s over but we’ll always have the memories we’ll always have the Winter Garden in Ridgefield Connecticut where between games the Zamboni resurfaces the ice and the world is made new my parents came to just about every one of my games that they could not r games right because that those could be far right they came to just about every one of my games that they could but I didn’t think they cared and I’m so glad that they didn’t care you know what I mean like I can’t imagine what if I had to come tell my parents that it was over right I I I just I I can’t I’m so it’s it’s a whole new thing man it’s a whole new thing right like I guess I just have to realize that this is a is a whole new world yeah I I I definitely dream of a world where my kids play sports and you know I could be that Sports parent but I just don’t know to what extent I’ll let it go to that point where like I’m sad that they retire from a sport like hockey I’d almost feel like okay good you’ve put in enough time you’re not pro let’s move on you know you had you got you got out of it what you needed the difference between now and before is why do we care so much if these kids are good right right like there’s going to be some kids who play and who are going to be good in care but by and large man he out here [ __ ] around need something to do right like that was that was the thought like for me on this at least at least in the way that I always looked at playing sports and everything else the level of investment and I appreciate the cander of the writer in this one to admit that like it was a thing for him but I do ask the parents out here listening to ask yourself that doesn’t sound a little crazy to you that somehow this is about you none of it should ever be like you know like the thought that they’ll say oh he’s the one who taught him to skate you thought about go it’s yeah I just I wish you guys the best I really really do uh yeah definitely an interesting uh piece and I’m glad he shared it so vulnerably um our last P you know what the trick bag on that is they be sharing it so vulnerably but the reason that vulnerability is a thing is because there’s always somebody who want to be mean to you and it makes it awkward when I am that person I want to be very mean but I was I’m I’m a better host than that hey you want to see me you want to S it you want to S this some sound about your article so our host can bang on you for five minutes n I’m not going to do that um our last article comes from the LA Times and they basically discussed the Hollywood writer strike uh a year later and how um 12 months following the strike and winning you know the streaming residuals the limitations on AI uh writers across the entertainment industry are not working the production activity in the first quar quar in 2024 was 25 or 20.5% lower than a 5-year average and you know the studios are currently in their cost cutting strategy which have left writers in a pinch and uh people have speculated that ENT entertainment companies are determined to lie low until they can recoup the money lost during all that um strike and streaming frenzy which um you know bodess even more poorly for writers across the board so um you know I I I I think we both wanted to talk about this article being that industry is kind of in shambles following such a big win for writers across the board and and unions across the board yeah but it only works if they pick up stuff right and they’re not picking up stuff like look I did a TV show that I guess a year ago they around a year ago I remember exactly the day but around a year ago they called us and told us that it wasn’t coming back but what I realized was a they were calling a lot of people and telling them that they weren’t coming back and B they weren’t really getting replaced by stuff right or if it was was getting replaced by something then it was something that had already been coming down the pike like Now’s the Time where that lag catches up and people look around now that people looking around feel like they’re not get anything picked up I think I may have talked about this here but with the sheer volume of stuff on the streaming services the way that model had been set up before was you write for this show or whatever and you get the money while you’re there but while you wait on the next job you get residuals mailbox money you go out there you open your mailbox and you got like from The Writer’s Guild it’s a green envelope right the green envelope comes in and you got some money in the green envelope bro I done seen $2 checks I done seen $3 checks if you follow writers on the gram they will show you the pictures of some of these Paul tree amounts that come down I got a five I got a stack of $3 checks for season one a game theory at one point because who the hell sitting on Max I don’t think season one on anymore but who the hell was sitting on Max going back and watching season one of a topical television show you know what I mean like you’re not not getting that bread like that and so you’re not getting that money and stuff isn’t getting picked up yeah I got lunch with a friend who works in the industry she’s in you know the Director’s Guild and she’s like pilot season doesn’t exist anymore that that is a thing of the past where you know previously in the industry pilot season would be everyone pitching their new shows and getting to make at least one episode that is not the case and you know I feel for a lot of writers out there some of my friends are even you know they have their name attached to a very popular show and now you know waiting tables at a pizza place it’s it’s it’s very sad but you know it though uncomfortable truth we’re not all entitled to Cool Jobs yep right and so there was this big expansion of it but we’re not all entitled to having Cool Jobs and people going to have to make decisions about whether or not if this industry is not sustainable for you then you’re going to kind of need to go and figure out something else in the meantime or whatever but I think that’s what’s happening in part is a bit of a market Market correction now look I’m a member of these guilds right I’ve went out there been on pigy lines all of those things so I’m not speaking in opposition of the people that I’m rolling with but I also think that we going to need to be honest in some ways and look around and ask ourselves how many jobs are there supposed to be in this industry and if we all want to have jobs in it is this what it’s going to take that a lot of us are just not going to make any money and then if that money isn’t good enough for you what you about to do [Music] all right both today’s voicemail prompt was just a general uh kind of ask me anything open-ended questions so here’s the first one we got hey yo bo what’s up man um last time I talked to you it was about this 67 rated defense event destroying my 99 all world allamerican and Oregon with that being said with the announcement of a EA Sports coming back out with NCAA 25 n chance you bring out your old pitch you know the one B there’s always a place for you at the University of blank blank I know you ain’t going back to Texas but any chance you picking up this game bro yo I have not owned a gaming system in a very very very long time I think the PlayStation 3 is the last one that I owned I don’t know yeah I don’t think I had a four I think a three is the last one that I own and I just didn’t have time to play anymore I also can’t imagine how many buttons the damn controller has now or anything else right like I don’t know how far away I am but I gotta be honest I probably got a little bit of time for this and I got to be honest if I start playing it’s going to be a problem it’s going to be a big problem that’s where I at with video games is I’m I’ve always been a gamer but I’m now at the point in life where like I know if I do pick up a game like that I won’t put it down and you might not hear from me you know the show might not be produced as well yeah I don’t me and you both just all here groggy right you know it’ll be like it it’ll be like the playoffs all year long right see you live on the west the playoffs don’t be doing you like they doing me man I’m just tough getting back oh man I’m just coming back around man I’m just getting back into schwang I got to change my whole approach next year man like I’ve been looking at the whole calendar everything man I got a I got a lot to think about you know what I’m saying I got a lot to consider with the way that I get down but I can’t I can’t be adding no video games to it especially not now when you can get on the internet like and that’s especially what I don’t need man cuz I’mma come find you little racist yeah after you beat them with the you know a division three Powerhouse that that’s right but I’mma show up at they house I’mma show up at your house and I’m going full pimc I’mma show up at your house you going to smell my cologne all right here we go here’s our next H question Jones this Mike from KC long time listening first time caller uh you probably mentioned this on one of your shows uh but I wonder what ever happened to Chicago Mike he used to come on your shows with you when you first started off guy was a real comedian I love those segments when you had him on uh obviously haven’t heard him in a while just wanted some insight on whatever happened to him hope all is well blessed I appreciate it he talk about Mike Hitman what happened with Mike same thing that always happens with Mike Mike out here living life boy I did a talk at the University of Chicago in I want to say February or March I can’t remember which but either way Mike came out I got a picture that I shared from that one but no man those of you who know the Mike Hitman story like once we went to pod it became a little more difficult to do things with Mike for a number of reasons like radio that’s the world that Mike traffic’s in it’s fun for me with my friends who do radio shows in other places like Frank is Sola he he know Mike now he Side Bike on they show right but he comes in and if you didn’t get a chance to check season two a game theory and I mean this sincerely one of the like what when I knew that I had done what I wanted to do with Game Theory and it didn’t matter if we did anything else is I got Mike Hitman on the two episodes of gang Theory flew him down in his F coat on gang Theory I was like yes I got to put Mike Hitman on HBO you can’t tell me nothing after that one so yeah do Mike’s good I need to get him a call I Ain talk to him in a minute all right here we go last question of the day hey this is Mike from Chicago I love your show got a question that’s not my kid the Kendrick Drake thing reminded me of the cowboy Carter review you did with Spencer Hall a few weeks before so which is going to come first Drake will get respect from Hip Hop or Beyonce will get respect from The Academy of Country Music I’m inclined to think it’s going to be a cold day in hell for both but what do you think yo that is a very interesting question I think wow wow you know what’s interesting though I bet you there are more people in the Academy of Country Music who have a respect for Beyonce than there are people in hip-hop who have a respect for Drake there are people who may be willing to listen to Drake consume his music or maybe at some point do some work with him but what we have seen very clearly is there aren’t that many people that respect him all right it’s some people over there at the oery and all them spots they respect Beyonce they probably doing it in silence and don’t want to tell nobody about it but I bet that they respect her right so no I actually think that’s the that’s the direction that that one goes and leans in man it’s a tough go for Drake man when he when he gonna come back when he gonna come back that’s what I wanna and I I just want to throw this out here one more time let me just tell this story right quick should I use names we could always we can always in the in the later you know bleep them out if you if you don’t feel good n Sean you know who I’m talking about so he was at dinner one night for work and my man was there and he was telling me how he was a drake fan and I needed him to explain to me why he was a drake fan and he said well he knew that he would get five or six good songs from Drake every time that would be entertaining and he would be good there and I said fine I understand why you say that you listen to Drake’s music I’m asking you why you a fan because being a fan is a whole another level and see the thing is with a lot of these cats right with Drake when they get face to face with some real ones they just want to be like yeah I like Drake’s music I enjoy it or whatever it is right but they don’t want to act like they really like down with Drake but then this beef came around and all them cats was out here flailing as I understand it scrambling trying to find a way to offer some defense for Drake and it’s like oh wait a minute wait a minute you don’t just like his music you see yourself in that man you do and we all see ourselves in various places and all I’mma ask all of y’all who feel that way now do you still see yourself in them because if you do right now all I see is a sucker right that that that I can’t see nothing else no more I know how you used to be able to see a dude who was good at rapping right you used to be able to see a dude who had girls and stuff like that but right now all I can see is a suck if you still ride like putting your name on Drake riding for Drake like if that’s what you doing are you sure I just I just no matter who you are are you you sure that’s what you want to do cuz I’m going tell you now okay before when you did that you just sounded like a youngster now it’s real sucker rfic Behavior I wouldn’t do that if I was you and I’m not saying that anybody involved is a sucker but if you choose to look like a sucker is that any better but hey ladies and gentlemen Sean’s got prize picks for Theo I sure do bo uh Tuesday is the start of the Eastern Conference Finals uh Pacers vers Celtics uh I’m going to call this pick uh the other guys so we’ll start on the Pacers TJ McConnell 10 points we’ll take more there shout out to T.J McConnell who I I you know all hate you can say but he played really really well in those last games for the uh Pacers and he really put a statue with him for it they might have to it might be as smaller than AI but there’s going to be a statue uh Andrew nard again one of our guys that we know and love on the Pacers two and a half rebounds I’ll take more there and then on the other side of the paint I’ll take Derek white 16 and a half points will’ll take more and Al Horford seven rebounds will’ll take more there as well Derek Wright usually plays well early on the series and then does his whole like everything else kind of guy he always scores well early and then does the rebounds the gadget stuff after you know the the intangibles as you might say but yeah those are my picks for the Tuesday uh game one can you imagine asking Drake for his autograph I I you I you brought this up and you know the sueric behavior I don’t know if you saw this because you’re not on Tik Tok but a guy got viral of going through all of Drake’s old songs and pausing it when he heard a lyric that was you know let’s say pordish pedophil file PDF yes yes uh OVO sent cease and assist to this man over this and he is shout out to this shout out to this kid who is powering through posting more Tik toks about this and going to court with oovo it might be a losing battle because they might have a little more money but you know a very Valiant effort and fight has he started to go fun me yet cuz I assure you there’s a large man in Miami who I think might have a couple of dollars he might be willing to throw at the case just might be out there somebody might take this all pro bonus know there’s some old hipop head out here just you watch just you watch but ladies and gentlemen thanks so much for joining us here on the right time we do this three times a week that’s Sean you 1. Y’all hate on KAT for bs reasons. I said before the playoffs he’s gonna go on a Dirk run and shut all his haters up and look at him now! FOLKS USED TO LAUGH AT ME BUT THE WOLVES ARE BACK!! 🐺🐺🐺

  2. dude always says he’ll admit when he’s wrong and never does. always excuses cause he’s a proper asshole

  3. I love Bomani’s content, but this take on KAT is starting to approach Skip Bayless / Lebron territory.
Have to give props after a performance and victory like that

  4. Bill Maher and Sharon Osborne believe they are entitled to "cool jobs." Bo stated that very well. There are a lot of obnoxious knuckleheads who don't seem to understand that simple premise.

  5. 14 feet of dissapointment is very funny – being a sour looser is just sad – i hate kat and he was great

  6. As much as KAT fouls he gets completely disrespected by the refs just as much, Aaron Gordon had KAT in an armbar and KAT got the offensive foul in the first quarter, Aaron Gordon initiated that contact. Basketball can be immensely exciting but acomplete dumpster fire of sport at the same time because of the sheer hypocrisy of the refs and how the league doles out punishments

  7. My pops was a former baseball prospect who only came to my high school baseball games because there was barbecue after, and my mom sat in the stands during basketball games and graded papers at every game she attended. In the same week, I got the steal to seal one victory in one game and two days later I committed a turnover to lose another game, and she didn’t see either play as her eyes never left her papers. I grew up to be a writer with eight books so far and several poems and short stories in magazines thanks to their absolute disinterest in my athletic abilities. 😂😅🤣🤷‍♂️

  8. It took me a few years to relinquish my disdain for Divecenzo after snachting that national title from us in 2018. He is, in fact, the big Ragu, the mj of Delaware, the Italian stallion, best known as White Donte😂 (Italian name in origin, I know).

  9. This comment section got bombarded with random ass weirdo KAT stans…a perfect metaphor that describes why Bo dislikes Drake🤣🤣

  10. Eat the "crow" and take" a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go dowwwnnn" for an upset stomach. No Excuses, alibis on this one Bomani.

  11. Bo just take the L man.😂 You opened the show with that whole song and dance and you're not sure? Come on now my naysayer…

  12. Starting to think KAT smashed Bomani woman. 😂😂😂 Man cant wait to Hate on him.
Bomani energy is of the medium lame dude in the crew who pick on the lightskin dude cause he thought it was easy pickings … but finds the dude got a lil hand foot action after all. Now he talking bout “I was just testin you bro, you good bro, I fw you”

  13. Season 1 of Game Theory wasn’t available to watch after Season 2 started. I tried. And as soon as the show was canceled, Season 2 disappeared as well.
