Penn State Football will host 11 prospects for its first official visit to the June recruiting calendar, starting on Friday. On today’s BWI Live Recruiting Show, we’ll discuss the importance of these prospects, the outlook for the summer when hosting a prospect for the first weekend of the summer period, and more. Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube to get in on the conversation!

We’ll also discuss the next wave of potential Penn State recruits heading to Happy Valley on Saturday and Sunday for the team’s first summer prospect camps. Will the team find another Peter Gonzalez, who blew away the team’s testing drills at this time last year on the way to an official visit and commitment? We’ll discuss the team’s process of identifying and recruiting players today.

Now is a perfect time to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. The team will get several critical recruiting commitments over the next few months, and the best way to know when that happens is to subscribe and enable notifications so you know when we drop a commitment video.

Penn State official visit weekend

This weekend’s visitors descend on Happy Valley starting on Friday, May 31. The team has gone quiet with commitments since before the Blue-White Game in April with running back Alvin Henderson. So who might be the next player to take the plunge? The defensive roster for the recruiting class of 2025 is sparse so a commitment from edge defender Cedric Works or Max Granville would be a big win for Penn State.

Yet the headliners for this weekend are the receivers. Quincy Porter, Lex Cyrus and Corey Simms will each try Penn State on for size over the next several days. Will any join Lyric Samuel in the receiver room?

We’ll also discuss the impact of getting the nation’s top linebacker Ty Jackson to campus. Can the Nittany Lions snag the elite Florida recruit?

Prospect camps start this weekend

On top of the critical visitors coming to campus, the team needs to find the next wave of recruits. Prospect camps start on Saturday and continue on Sunday. Last year, Peter Gonzalez put together an impressive performance that landed him a scholarship offer and a spot in the Class of 2024. Are there any players who might fit that bill this year?

We’ll also discuss how important these camps are for the recruiting department for the next cycle in 2026.

of the top prospects in the nation are going to be in Happy Valley starting on Friday some unbelievably important players are also going to be on campus and those are not always overlapping uh individuals all that coming up on the show today plus we’re going to be talking about uh the first Prospect Camp of the summer how important those are all that coming up plus your thoughts comments Sunday and you know we’ll see if what they’re able to do maybe leads to an official visit down down the road but uh yeah just got that up working on the rest of a camp list I will work on that later perfectrancenow notes of this video okay let’s get to it because we have the official visit weekend coming up for Penn State football 11 prospects coming to Happy Valley trying on the nitty lines literally the photo shoots the putting on the jerseys Ryan I want to come to you how do you guys want to discuss this group of players in terms of importance ranking uh position where do you want to lead off in the conversation about the players that are coming this weekend well actually you can do photo shoots now I think a lot of fans are confused on uh you know the whole photo shoot thing for official visits they are allowed by the way people because I think that was a a funny topic that I saw a lot of fans comment on my Graphics are going to get way better after this weekend I promise yeah yeah you’ll you’ll you’ll actually have some to to talk about um man when I look at it positionally right uh it’s very heavy uh defense this week uh there are multiple wide receivers expected uh I believe um well of course Malachi Goodman as well offensive tackle but for the most part it’s heavy defensively and that’s how it probably should be when you look at the way the class is you know uh lined up right now it it’s their commits are heavy offense so they need to start getting some defensive guys in uh and committed here sooner than later I think off the bat what grabs my attention is Brandon finny and Grayson Littleton two corners that I think are very high on Penn State’s Board of course they have Xavier Thomas committed but they have a few guys that that they really want to get on board and Finny is without a doubt I think their top most important quarterback prospect now let’s we we’ll put the McD talk to the side right obviously Penn State has great history with MCD but just the the the way his stock has risen over the last couple months you know starting with indoor track outdoor track and then of course what he did at Under Armour the other week which was incredibly impressive uh some of his testing numbers we wrote about a story on that last week for subscribers uh I I look at him as a guy who right now I think is top 150 or so for one three and I think could absolutely be a top 100 Prospect uh moving forward here so this was a great evaluation by Penn State to to get in on him fairly early to compared to most now with that said I don’t think this is a typical mcdna recruit from the perspective of like well you know everybody from McDon goes to Penn State you know they should be safe there I think Georgia is absolutely Miss so is South Carolina and I believe Oregon’s the other school so this one’s pretty open compared to a lot of MCD guys uh and and I think Penn State has has some work to do now with that said I also still would at the end of the day if you made me make a prediction I I would say that Penn State should be one of the two schools he chooses between who that other school is is kind of hard to say at the moment but uh you know they’re in a good position I’d have them as their top corner right now um and then just to add to that too Grayson Littleton is a guy who similar to finny has really moved up quickly on the board uh for Penn State and a lot of schools um so just kind of I look at them as maybe like top three or four of of Penn State’s quarterback targets right now so to have you know two of their most important ones when they have I believe it’s like nine official visit set or somewhere around there with Corners uncommitted Corners I should say um these are two guys that are just incredibly important to Terry Smith and and he he l the rrap at least one of them up uh this weekend and you know we’ll see where we’ll see where things go Fitz I want you to jump in here just want to give you heads up you’re muted he’s still muted Fitz we got you you’re muted Bud definitely was reading some other stuff didn’t have the right window open that’s my apologies uh I have finny as one of the top three guys and I have Littleton in there too Jamir Joseph is a guy we’ve been talking about a long time so I think those three guys I mean if you’re looking for an optimal class uh to add to Xavier Thomas who we kind of forget is is committed as cornerback as well from Pittsburgh Central Catholic um I think those guys make sense Josh Johnson’s been on campus a lot but yeah I think those are the ones you look at and you know Terry has covered his bases somebody asked about rayan Andrews in the chat Penn State sees him as a corner probably a say I mean he’s close to 6’4 so there ain’t too many of those guys floating around if they are they got to be you know special in terms of movement skills um but uh yeah I think corner is a spot that you can look at even though there’s just one commit um probably more of a nickel commit actually unless Xavier hits a gross spurt like his brother did um but uh yeah it’s pretty wide open but you feel pretty good about the ability of Penn State to to secure a couple of those guys uh I I guess the the the outside corner does that provide an added emphasis because because you mentioned Xavier Thomas is a slot guy and that provides you with something you need we talk about kind of replacing Jon Hardy and the value of the slot I think is very important but those outside corners and especially you you mentioned Grayson Littleton a guy who at a Florida school is a kick returner you know he’s one of the best athletes on the field on a field full of athletes so how important are these guys from that positional perspective do you think or is it just level of talent is level of talent fits I mean you got you got to take the talent where you can get it and uh especially a corner where we’ve talked about that assembly line where they move on to safety you know a guy like ran Andrews maybe moves to safety maybe not long into his career um no I mean you just you have so much talent available there you’ve done a great job recruiting you took two guys last year from Florida that you you think can play and Kenny wosley who kind of fits that Xavier Thomas nickel kind of mold that can play as an inside out guy so I mean if it ain’t broke just you know keep throwing numbers at that position it seems to be seems to be doing pretty good and Penn State’s flipped cornerback more than any other position in the Franklin era in the last 10 years I mean it’s been it’s been pretty absurd how how lacking it was and how how good it is now one thing I’ll add to real quick to you Frank it’s like I I have I I wonder if Littleton could I wonder if Littleton can play that slot role too 5’11 175 Shifty like and how does that impact maybe how pen State sees him you know say he doesn’t make an early commitment right and he and he drags into July maybe they get finny or or jir Joseph and then add somebody else you know because you have Xavier because you have Kenny wisley both of whom play a similar role maybe maybe I I have to to get a better eval on Little Tim but like some of the feedback I’ve gotten is like is not size is a concern but does he fit what they kind of already haveen those recent two so just something he’s don’t me wrong like Talent is Talent like Sean said I think they would absolutely grab that guy but um that is a role that I wonder if they are um oversaturated at or or that’s not the right word but maybe maybe that makes llon just a little bit lower than the other two put it that way yeah and and the other thing here is Littleton is a Kansas guy he’s Kansas native um he plays at Wire Grass Ranch in Tampa um so like Penn State’s got some good relationships down there but he’s not a Tampa he’s not a Florida native so maybe that helps in terms of fit you know maybe that’s uh there a guy that’s seen some winter in his lifetime so maybe that’s uh that’s something that could really help pen State there do you see any parallels I wrote about this uh when looking at his film do you see any parallels with Cam Miller uh Cam’s a little bigger and I think littleton’s a better corner you can see some of his highlights here on film if he actually played corner is Junior season as opposed to whatever position it was that cam Miller played I forget exactly where he played but Fitz do you see any comparisons there uh in terms of you know what Ryan is talking about does he fit what they do and is that kind of a thing they could talk about of here’s a successful Florida corner and I know you just mentioned he he’s not from Florida originally but a guy who came up north and was successful in this program and is is slated to be one of the the key contributors in the defense this upcoming year yeah I could see that the the um difference with this recruitment in cam Millers is I think Penn State and ruter were the top two for cam Miller and uh he’s going to Grayson littleton’s going to Clemson he’s going to Alabama um he’s going to some some top-notch uh top-notch schools that are a little bit closer to Florida so um I think that’s the difference in sort of this recruitment but as as an athlete yeah he kind of makes sense there um a shorter long guy if that makes sense like I that’s kind of how we we we have Cam at six foot we have Littleton right around six foot maybe a little bit six foot so like that’s that kind of makes sense from that build perspective he also has Oklahoma and Iowa too two schools close Kanas I could remember Iowa I remembered but I didn’t mention them so where are we going next on our tour of the official visit guys um I I’ll take it I mean I think Wide Receiver right you got to talk wide receiver we’re going to talk wide receiver a lot I’m glad somebody else said that first because I talked the the whole show yesterday is about wide receivers so I’m glad Ryan you brought it up today so we incredibly important position over the next couple weeks I mean if you look at I think the way our the visits we have confirmed at least I think wide receiver and Corner are the two that have more people coming in than than any other position uh these next four weeks but for this week specifically Lex Cyrus of course susco Hannah Township guy talked about him a ton Corey Sims out of Missouri and then Quincy Porter out of Bergen Catholic so uh you know with with with Lex it seems pretty cut and dry at the moment South Carolina Penn State they’re the only two official visits he has said at the moment he’s been to Penn State a ton and has been a guy that like they they they have to get and they really want Lex Cyrus obviously the speed’s all there uh you know as we’ve talked about I think in the last podcast or two after going to that showcase uh yeah he’s really just improved so much as a receiver too you still can work on some things don’t get me wrong but you know the the question we talked about a million times is he attract guy or playing football or whatever no he he’s he’s a football player without a doubt so Lex Cyrus is incredibly important the one thing I wonder is we get a week or two into official visits you know maybe another score or two out there then tries to get an official visit in with him later uh last two weeks of cycle just so they can they can read their board better uh but right even if that happens though I I do firmly feel like South Carolina is the the team that that Penn State is is fighting for here and they should be able to get Lex Cyrus I mean if they if they miss out on Lex Cyrus that would be man that that would really kind of surprise me so we’ll see where that goes I mean with Sims and Quincy Porter we’ve talked about both of those guys a good bit uh both are very important both play will play a similar role to Lyric Samuel so I it’s hard for me to see both Sims Porter and added to the class and then you know with lyric just because they’re all kind of similar in some ways uh without a doubt I mean Porter would be the one if if they were picking between the two but I think Porter’s recruitment won’t be easy uh you know I’ve thought I’ve thought Ohio state for a long time Sean you’ve kind of been missed mentioning Michigan more with Porter I kind of lean a little bit more towards Michigan now I think I think you’re you’re kind of Bor to something there I do Wonder just the depth of Ohio State’s wide receiver board that’s something that’s kind of been brought up and you know how that uh could impact Porter but the the main message really that I’ve been hearing W with Porter is just the opportunity that he has at Penn State and that’s been something they’ve been pushing really hard in recent weeks seems to be working to some degree I mean there is certainly some quiet confidence I guess you would say that they’re in a better spot with Porter we believe you know at the same time you know for so many months it’s felt like Ohio State Michigan and then Penn State’s kind of that second school but we’ll see how that plays out Sean I’ll throw it to you anything you got that’s uh I agree with that Porter’s really um Pro I mean he’s he’s I would say the headliner that makes if that makes sense um because he is so you know 46 overall in the on three industry rankings but kind of throw them out and kind of think about priority think about uh you know just the general need uh for state right now and uh you know he’s a guy that uh I wrote off a while ago and then he visited in the spring and we kind of said okay well there’s some some nice things here so get an official and see what happens so you’re kind of riding that high right now and trying to uh trying to basically convince him that staying home and playing early are two things that he could do at Penn State and if he wants to do that in his recruitment that’s if that’s Paramount in his recruitment there’s there’s a place to do it now again I’ve said it before Bergen Catholic has not been a Penn State feeder by any stretch of the imagination um so getting him here would be uh would be a Monumental Hall I think um but uh yeah K really good man Tank’s playing some some highlights on the uh the Youtube show he just goes up and gets it he does so at 63190 is what we have’t listed at so um yeah I think he’s probably the headliner but I agree yeah Michigan’s a player in there Ohio State still a player in there Oklahoma’s got an official visit as well um we’re going to see what the what the priorities are here coming in um in in June it’s interesting to me uh the the way that you tier these visits getting a first impression matters but also you know you got to you got to write it out you got to maybe you come out of a of a a visit as a leader for one of these prospects but what’s that mean in the grand scheme of things when they’ve got three mother three three more visits um lined up that’s a good question that’s a very good question so um it’s kind of a double-edged sword here on on any weekend you can make that argument so but Penn State got four commitments out of their last week or their last their first weekend last year Derek plaz didn’t stick Jaylen Harvey went back and forth after that but still four out of 13 or 12 or 13 is really good hit rate yeah so I got a bunch of questions for you guys but the questions here in the chat and this is kind of a a stock question I just want to stop and answer for Ryan uh get your thoughts on these things Ryan throws into the chat he says there’s a feeling among some that recruiting has peaked in the teens and that’s not good enough anyway to get inside the top 10 consistently he brings up later Penn State not buying into nil fully is concerning is nil a way into the top 10 uh is that a way you can shoulder your way up upwards and you know maybe not getting into the how but like you know I guess what are your your guys thought of where Penn State stands right now in the recruiting rankings and is it good enough to get them where they want to go eventually of making a college football playoff and a postseason birth and making something happen when you get there Fitz what do you think hate to say it’s it’s going to have to be I mean uh now we’ve got this this little I think I think Ryan and I agree it’s it’s it’s going to be in the grand scheme of things a small window this nil as it is era as you get to revenue sharing as you get to um something can set a baseline for uh recruiting um not just for football but for other sports as well that’s going to help it’s not going to do everything but it’s going to help and I think you see a little bit of a regression to what we typically saw where Penn State Falls what 11 14 somewhere in there now they have peaked in the in the top 10 but you can’t it’s tough to sustain that um the the issue with throwing a bunch of money uh you know in this nil era right now is that number one it’s not sustainable we know it’s a dumb system like everybody knows that nobody’s arguing very few are arguing to the contrary there um but number two like you’ve got to know what you’re going in on Penn State doesn’t do this for high school prospects because they know the hit rate for a typical iCal class is about 50% like you you better be damn sure of your evaluation and even then like it says a lot more especially when you gotta protect them from from the transfer portal like it play on both sides we were all sure on King Mack right and how’d that work out correct correct um to paraphrase my uh short little friend all of it very stupid um but uh yeah that’s that that is the risk that you’ve got to take and how long can you ride this wave of this current system maximize it and sort have come out on the other side with the benefit of having it done it right I I don’t know I don’t know so that’s that’s where I’m at with with the nil stuff um Penn State it has improved its nil it’s it started by playing from behind and hoping that it would kind of go away I think um didn’t really do that um hasn’t really done that and now you’re you’re spending all that time catching up to programs that that sort of latched on to it early um they’ve improved it’s still not top 10 recruiting uh recruiting yeah Rob says it’s tough to get a university that’s thought thought small for most of its history to start thinking big but it has to and that seems to be a trend of being behind on these things for an extended period of time now and kind of resting on traditional perceived values and and perceived value of Penn State is important because pen State exists and I think that you know pushing forward has been kind of a thing that you’ve heard people talk about but I want to get back to the recruiting stuff I want to get back to our focus on what’s coming up this weekend and whether or not pennate has the funds to get these guys who they are and the relationships outside of the nil and and uh Ryan I want to come to you with this one talking about the receivers again you kind of feel like Lex Cyrus is going to be a strong lean to Penn State if you were to commit this weekend do you get a domino effect of Corey Sims or uh Quincy Porter deciding they want to jump in because the slots are filling up at that position or are they in a situation where it’s going to be kind of immune like you’re not going to get that domino effect um be and the pressure of not wanting to miss out on a class um so I to start that off I would say I I’d expect Cyrus to still go to South Carolina next weekend just because he’s only visited there once and it was a very good visit he made that very clear to me when I was out that that college showcase last week I mean Beamer and his staff have done a pretty good job with Lex Cyrus so I if I had to make a prediction I I do think he would will take that visit next week but we’ll say he he does commit right it wouldn’t shock me if he did I just I would lean towards him going to South Carolina first then you look at that next weekend Jeff exer Matthew auton two guys that I know are incredibly important to Penn State guys that they want to get on board as soon as they could so yeah that wouldn’t hurt that would absolutely help if you got Alex Cyrus this weekend I I still feel like they should get exer either way U maybe maybe not next weekend but that’s that’s that’s one of those McDonald recruitments that does fit all the other previous guys if that makes sense someone they’ve been on for a long time Connections in multiple different ways it that will it should get over the line at some point aon’s kind of hard to read just because he doesn’t really talk to staff much doesn’t talk to us much he’s just he’s just kind of a quiet guy but he’s very important no no doubt about it so yeah certainly you get Alex Cyrus that absolutely helps put the wheels in the motion a little bit you know having lyrics Sam you already there I I think most of these guys understand that Penn State wants to take I mean three is a lock four I feel like is what they want and I mean even five if you if you’re able to squeeze out a Quincy Porter or Cory Sims or maybe even someone like a Taz Williams down the road like that’s possible I’d still lean towards four being the max or four being the safer number um but yeah I mean you have two committed you know aer’s probably in a good position yeah that that could absolutely Grease the wheels for that I I was leaning to three just uh just not to get people too excited Fitz can we talk a little bit more about Cory SS cuz I feel like he’s kind of been the third wheel in this conversation and there are things about his film that I really really like maybe as much as Quincy Porter so you know not to not to lead the witness at all but what do you think about him and what’s that situation like with I guess why is he in this conversation for Penn State uh just a a very open recruit like not not open in the sense that he doesn’t you know doesn’t have leaders or anything like that but like open two different things you look at where he’s going for visits and you know Missouri is obviously not far from him but to to go to Penn State he came in January really really liked it liked the staff likeed what they were doing um it it doesn’t seem to be about one thing with Corey Sims and I think that that gives Penn State you know a little bit of a little bit of an opportunity there so Missouri kid or St Louis kid going to Missouri that makes sense uh going to Nebraska that kind of makes sense as well going to Penn State doesn’t make a ton of sense but you know Penn State will take it and going to USC which USC I think is hosting as many receivers as Penn State is uh this June as well well so it’s just a it’s just a a scatter shot there of his Recruitment and I think for taking an out of region kid or giving an opportunity to an outraging kid I think that that that helps like that that’s encouraging um not not saying they’re gonna end up with Cory Sims um they’ve got lyrics Samuel in theclass who’s 63 and a half Quincy Porter obviously a top Target at 63 so you’ve got those big receivers and we’ve talked to like what is the optimum size for a receiver well the optimum Siz receiver is for a good receiver I think Cory Cory Sim is pretty good they also think lyc s’s really I think Quincy Porter is really good um so like those are those are some some guys to uh sort of marinate on there where you’re trying to fill out the rest of the class and what Ryan said um kind of got washed out there but he said Lex Cyrus could Grease the wheel and I think that that’s a very intriguing opportunity because we talk about positions we’ve seen it a ton we talk about positions where um you know you get a guy and then all of a sudden you get two or three commits on the on the heels of that that makes a lot of sense and I think Lex Cyrus being that guy could make sense because you look at Hey where’s he been all his recruitment where’s he visited Penn State Penn State Penn State Penn State you know Dro down to I think Miami South Carolina you know these these sort of random random schools but keeps coming back to Penn State and I think that that fits the the the mold maybe of like a dejon lane last year where it’s like yeah we we we feel good maybe not like feel over the moon about him but he was a guy that committed on the first weekend last year so it kind of makes sense when you’re talking about the regional kid like that and then maybe does that spur a Sims or something like that I I doubt it takes an OU of region guy um I I I doubt an OU of region guy that has USC next weekend Nebraska the following weekend and then Missouri finally in in the the 21st I doubt that would spin it like that but you know at least makes him think a little bit it might be something maybe for a guy like Jeff xener who doesn’t want to wait right maybe you you’ve kind of put them in this bucket of the out of region recruits and the in region recruits at receiver and how they might be two separate things at at times want to get to this Corey Smith says good morning a move in weekend coming up so Penn State’s uh next wave of recruits Corey Smith the the mother of Corey Smith the Penn State running back a fan of the show she’s here on a regular basis appreciate you being here um so that’s another exciting thing coming up this weekend which isn’t even a recruiting topic necessarily uh guys there’s just so much stuff going on um the the the next question and I don’t know who wants to take this one I’m going to ask this I think for the certain section of fans that have a sort of defensive reactionary thing when it comes to highlevel recruits and looks like game so let’s play the looks like game 6’3 New Jersey wide receiver Prospect uh explain why Quincy Porter isn’t Justin shorter because there are some people that are going to see the equation and they’re going to stop there so uh who wants to take this one Budd I mean I this sounds like a game that t Frank made up for himself so yeah say we’re gonna put you on the spot yeah better route Runner um and I’ll admit that I was not probably as dialed in professionally uh in recruiting at the time with Justin shorter than I am now earlier in my career probably didn’t have the understanding a Nuance to but really I I think that the difference is being a better overall receiver I do have some concerns maybe with Quincy Porter in terms of lateral cutting agility and but but he runs really good routes for being the 63 guy and I think that’s the biggest thing and not as fast but separation happens with something more than speed a bunch of times so I I I just think that I want to caution people from making those like onetoone comparisons that one is the other Drew all isn’t Christian Hackenberg Quincy Porter isn’t Justin shorter not everything in your life is bad and horrible so there we go I want to add let me add one thing real quick because I so I was talking to a source this morning about Cory Sims and one number to describ my attention with Sims is he has a 47540 right which I think I don’t think that’s nearly as bad as probably what some a lot of fans might think for a for a 63 200 pound receiver uh because we had the same talk with Jeff exner the other week he’s already up to like 215 or whatever which he ran a 465 by the way uh which is even a little bit better but so the the one the one story The Source was giving me though was about how uh Penn State I I didn’t remember this Sean maybe you do Roma dun visited Penn State back in the day and Penn State I don’t believe offered and they were the the hesitation was a 482 40 48540 at the time and you know there were other schools too where where he went off to visit and they didn’t offer and yeah just just look look what happened there with with Roman dun so you know sometimes I think we put a lot of stock in like how these guys run you know as as high school players and what you see as High School players you know at the end of the day it’s all about development get get those guys in here who you know have the majority of the the tools you’re looking for and you know as long as those players hit the ground running and and accept the coaching and all the other development you never know what’s going to happen so not that was an interesting story I totally forgot Roman dun visited Penn State we’re about five players through our 11 player list let’s go on to the next position group Ryan um you’ve been leading us through the list where do you want to go next with uh with the players that are coming this weekend the other position group that’s massively frustrating to figure out for me or at least the the main one I mean wide receiver I feel like we have a decent field for Corner we have a decent field for uh but defensive line is is is kind of been a little tough to figure out Max Granville is without a doubt uh one of Pen’s most important defensive end Targets in this class uh the issue is I think Oklahoma’s been the favorite for a long time uh his dad has ties in New Jersey and that kind of led to that multi-day visit that we saw I believe at the end of March the the the thing that I think is really important for this weekend if Penn State’s going to have a real chance with Max Granville is showing his mother everything that that Penn State offers as far as academically culture-wise all those things because she hasn’t been here yet so that’s kind of been the one thing that um you know I’ve had a couple people mention to me over the last couple weeks as far as like you know we know Max likes Penn State we know his dad likes Penn State we know Max really likes Oklahoma as well um but his mom hasn’t really been able to to get a better feel for Penn State so I think that’s going to have a major Focus for the staff this weekend and and you know we’ll see where things go the other two then being cedc works and yavon kaju works as more of a defensive end out of Ohio and kamu I will will likely grow into a defensive tackle he worked out as a DN the the other week at Under Armor but he’s it was similar to Xavier gilam I think in a lot of ways where he was kind of working out of position that I think Penn State likes both of those guys and I think these official visits will have a big impact on kind of where they go moving forward I think just getting a better feel for all of them spending two plus days with them you know both works and kajo have visited before uh but it won’t be quite on the level that that they’re going to visit this upcoming weekend you know being here for multiple nights and spending multiple days with the staff so I I think I could absolutely see both of them ending up in this class but I think this this weekend’s official visits will have a big impact on you know where they’re truly at on the board they’re not bringing in any guys that from a talent perspective uh you know can’t play at Penn State I think it’s just more about learning who they are as people and um you know as far as like how they fit the program I think that’s going to have a big impact on on those two this weekend Fitz what do you think about this group I think the group the group makes sense Cedric works is a really interesting one to me because we don’t have a ton of information on him but the information that we have seems pretty positive um is he Jal Lions probably not but like there’s some parallels there in terms of how his recruitment’s gone um and I think he’s a guy that’s probably a little bit more talented than his visit list um would would lead on um Kentucky makes sense because they’re always around with those Ohio prospects Cincinnati of course does a really good job scouting but like you know nothing that really terrifies you Florida depends on how much the kid likes the weather I guess um because Florida is one of those schools that recruits above its head for reasons that if you looked at the logical points of it doesn’t really make sense especially in the last couple of years now tremendous school all that Etc but uh yeah I think it’s a winnable recruitment I think it’s be interesting to see how Penn State pushes and how much information Penn State has sort of internally on him to make him uh one of those situations I know he’s got academic work to do but at the same time you look at the general feeling of defensive end across the country for every school there’s not a ton of those guys floating around that are 65 230 and can move Cedric Works can move pretty well so yeah um I think that that’s an intriguing one to me um I don’t know that uh you know he’s at the very top of the board but I think he’s a guy that you would you know give consideration to if he wanted to come so this is I think it’s interesting because we’ve had some of these out of region defensive end prospects who had maybe a little bit of a boom or a bust profile of a bigger guy a traditional defensive end Cedric works when you look at him and I’m uploading his uh his highlights right now I apologize should have had him up already he’s got he is in that jam Lions utor gross sort of build and he’s a guy that I I would love to have that data on because there are things in his profile that lean towards is he like a secret Superstar If he if he had that data would he be an Ohio State prospect would he be a guy that has those bigger offers and I think there’s a lot of potentially hidden value here uh and unfortunately I’ve shot myself in the foot here I’ll give you like a couple seconds cuz I do want to move on to the next couple of uh of uh uh prospects here but Cedric works I mean the arm length the frame you mentioned 65 230 but this is a guy who the 230 looks big on film meaning like he’s got a lot of room to grow and plays off ball linebacker at that size there’s a lot of Versatility here you’d love to know some of explosive metrics because if he can blend that size with some of that pop in the pads this is a guy who could be an under the radar pickup for Penn State or for whoever gets him that turns into from a three star a four star whatever he is in the consensus into a guy that has first round potential but it’s all and unknown at least from from looking at him on on film at this point umer’s an interestinger is an interesting comparison there I you know I kind of look at that frame and I can see see that yeah yeah he’s also a fourstar at all four sites too so I did not realize that either he’s top one 100 on 247 which is I I I knew we had him high and I I just thought we were the outlier there I thought we had him higher than anybody but yeah he’s he’s a consensus fourstar are we going to linebacker or are we going to the secondary next Ryan where are you taking us on the tour we could jump around I mean for these final couple guys um you know obviously Ty Jackson linebacker Malachi Goodman offensive tackle Antonio Branch safety uh guys I mean Goodman’s the one we’ve talked about the most uh so I think maybe he’s probably the one that to to really focus on maybe here but you know this is what this one’s always been interesting because when I look at the schools he’s visitting in you just want the Auburn in May okay Auburn we know is incredibly aggressive uh financially niio wise all that stuff Alabama Georgia not maybe as incredibly aggressive as far as like paying freshman players but they they’ve got plenty of money uh in their collectives and then USC of course uh the one who maybe has been more aggressive than anyone uh in this cycle so far so like when I see those that makes me think well that’s going to be pretty important and then you know I keep kind of digging on on stuff this week and you know I keep getting feedback from like well actually it’s not nearly as important uh as you know it may seem from the surface uh at least that’s kind of the vibe I get from from different pen State sources so they they feel pretty good about Goodman and I’ve had multiple people now say like hey we we think we have a real shot at getting him I’ve just always been so hesitant to to push that because of again the schools that they’re they’re competing with here like I I could just see one of these schools throwing around some silly money for offens tackle which is a premium position obviously quarterback’s there and then offensive tackle is not far behind as far as where schools are willing to throw out money uh and that’s why I’ve always just been like man I I I keep hearing good things everybody seems to be pretty confident but for me it’s just it’s hard for me to to really go out there and be like yeah I think Penn State’s gonna get this guy because all it takes is is is one school to just take things to a different level is there oop sorry sorry go ahead go ahead Fitz yeah I agree with Ryan there it’s not it’s really funny recruitment where I’m looking at the schools that they’re going against and Georgia and Alabama are are probably not the scariest entities there in terms of like guys that could could poach him away um Georgia and Alabama also have guys that are closer to home that are bigger targets for them um on the offensive tackle board so what what you worry is for uh one of those shock moves you know the transfer day shocking uh shock transfers where uh an alurn which is a second banana in its in its state a USC who’s trying to make a in the Big 10 like that that is where it would worry me uh now obviously Alabama and Georgia speak for themselves in terms of recruiting development championships all that kind of stuff that position too the silver the double-edged sword here for me if you’re Penn State is hey you want him to be a home body you want him to not want to go far away from home but you also want him to be you know not have that softer side to him as an offensive tackle so yeah this this is kind of what you’re what you’re selling kind of the same thing for Quincy Porters you have an opportunity here you have opport opportunity to do it close to home if things work out we just had a first round offensive tackle like that can be the that can be the top for you because they are extremely high on this kid as well um but uh yeah that’s kind of where Penn State’s at so I agree with Ryan I think I think there’s a real shot here and it’s C this offensive line cycle has been cyclical you’ve got Michael Carroll who you thought was going to Michigan a couple months ago now you think Alabama might be up top maybe maybe Penn State’s back in it you’ve got Malachi Goodman who goes down south um you know cancels a visit to Penn State goes down south to Alabama um and you’re like okay we here we go again now now maybe Penn State comes back around so time is one of those things that could help Penn State here distance definitely could help Penn State here but at the end of the day like you’re worried I’m I’m more worried in the Malachi Goodman recruitment about one of those schools that we don’t perceive as the top schools here and I think it’s also if I can relate these two things once you get to a certain level of Brandon finny who would be a strong lean to Penn State of Malachi Goodman who’s from the region once you get 102 the 11th offensive tackle things get harder to keep guys in state Matt Zer somebody asking about mad zers in the chat he’s at the Elite Series he’s a top 10 quarterback uh in the on three rankings when you get that high that’s where you get into the conversation about how does pence get in the top 10 and and these Elite prospects and Malachi Goodman if you watched his uh his highlights here on the YouTube channel damn and and they they they’d like to get that guy they’d like to get Michael Carrol but but once you get to a certain threshold of uh talent and and visibility it’s a it’s a harder road to hoe um so we’ll see how they do with at that position with a bunch of different tackles coming in that I think have a ton of talent um the the next one that I I I just want to segue to this because I don’t know how long we can take we should take with Ty Jackson but Ty Jackson is awesome number one linebacker in the on three rankings not a surprise that he’s awesome Ryan uh what’s the situation here with Tai Jack and and how do they uh how do they throw out the red carpet to a guy from Florida who I guess on the surface maybe doesn’t make a ton of sense in terms of everything we just talked about with Elite recruit Penn State and all that well Penn State has a lot to offer linebackers right there’s a there’s a deep history there and I think that’s a big reason why they’re getting this visit of course he he visited I think it was at the end of January had a good had a good experience there which is interesting Florida guy visiting at the end of January but all the all the fathers have feedback there was plenty of positive feedback I should say so the thing I think Ty Jackson is gonna end up at Florida State personally I think there’s there’s a lot of like family ties and stuff he’s been to Florida State a ton you know that that would be kind of where my my pick is uh there but I mean he he would be the cherry on top of of a good linebacker class he’d be the cherry on top of maybe the entire class in in my eyes I mean he is without a doubt a special special Prospect um I’m trying to remember who Charles uh related him to uh to me back in the day I mean ah dang I want to say it’s uh Nolan Smith was no I don’t know if it was Nolan Smith it was somebody else but like he he was just saying like I’ve been watching all these linebackers since player x man I gotta figure this out now and Ty Jackson was the one who who you know has has kind of grabbed my attention of he he looks like that guy who’s the who’s the Chicago Bears linebacker that guy traded to the Ravens Quan Smith oh rayquan yeah I think that’s who did you go to Georgia went to Georgia yes yeah I believe so anyway I’m pretty sure that’s who Charles was kind of saying like hey SI too like a guy who’s 61 62 not going to be the biggest guy in the world but is going to be the modern linebacker the modern prototype of a linebacker for sure so just he look he’s a stud of a player uh a guy who’s really kind of another one that Penn State was kind of on early we we didn’t really hear a lot about him because Tai wasn’t talking and then his recruitment kind of blows up takes a couple visits in the spring and you know now now we have a better feel for things so I I lean towards Florida state Florida State feels like the main competitor George’s in there to yeah if P was able to get him be a hell of a pickup it would be it would from a l from a national logical perspective it wouldn’t make any sense at all he’s at the on three uh Elite Series right now a lot of the chatter around Georgia and Florida State um he’s going to visit Alabama as well uh for Penn State to be in it like and you don’t hold up your flag and say hey we got an official visit but Penn State to be in it that’s pretty impressive yeah uh so I think the the LA is the last guy Antonio Branch Antonio branch yep okay yeah yeah just he hasn’t visited Penn State before you know we have him listed as a cornerback for on three I think he’s more of a safety in Penn State SI 62 175 those numbers are all legit I think Penn State kind of sees him filling out more and playing more of a safety role down the road uh certainly a guy that you know I’ve been kind of digging on him a little bit today I’m GNA keep digging on him after the show I think if there’s a surprise or two he’d be the one I have Circle just because he hasn’t visited before but look he’s taking an official visit now like there’s clearly a very good relationship there something that’s kind of gone under the radar I mean I can’t Sean have you ever have you ever interviewed Antonio I don’t I’ve tried a couple times gotms back and forth and that’s about it okay yeah so just a guy who’s been quiet but I mean the whenever I see a Florida Prospect never been to Penn State before still has an official visit set like we see these Florida surprises I feel like in every couple classes not not so much last year I think Elliot and you know obviously the the Mandarin guys we kind of had a better feel for but we’ve seen surprises pop up like he’d be the one that was like oh yeah uh you know it kind of makes sense with what we’ve seen over the years where you know some of these South Florida guys just kind of pop up and and end up committing and of course they’d have to keep them committed down the road but look we’re we’re we’re far down the road or we’re not saying he’s committing or anything like that right away but what did I say to you what did I text you this morning Ryan if he commits what’s the first post you can say it why why bother in South Florida he’s gonna hit the portal yeah after King M I feel like everybody’s everybody’s bummed out or just annoyed about how how many of those recruitments have gone that way oh my fault yeah but anyway so we’ll see uh he’s a guy I’m going to keep digging on here um but I think I think there’s definitely a better relationship that I’ve realized I think that there’s there’s something there I want to get a better feel for it though before I I keep running my mouth here on YouTube about it so at this point you guys should be super well informed about the official visitors coming to Penn State the relationships the opportunities The Fallout the Imp ifs all that stuff so again follow along at can like And subscribe and all all those things but I want to get on to uh something that we promised to talk about on today’s show and that is the penate prospect C which come up this weekend as well this time of year we mentioned Peter Gonzalez was making his bid for a Penn State football commit uh position got an official visit after an excellent camp we chronicled that last year at the first camp and then of course got the official visit now is inrolled and on campus at Penn State and this was a great question earlier in the chat from Eric who donated the channel love you Eric thank you he’s a regular here can you guys preview the prospect camp for newbies we’ve got thousands of new people that subscrib to the the channel and watch the show so maybe they weren’t here last year what do they test how can you stand out what’s the talent level um he is bringing his uh his uh uh 2026 running back DB to Happy Valley for the first time so guys can you break down Prospect camp for Eric and for his uh son or football player to know what they need to know about what’s coming up this weekend for Penn State and the next phase for 26 and Beyond yes me or you Sean go ahead yeah I I I’ll start here uh it is an exam it is a test it is a job interview it is something where you come into uh you better be ready to go because if you’re not it’s evident early and then the eyes they go off of you so they’re going to bring you in it is going to be um a sort of a physical exam type thing you’re talking arm length hand size uh height weight all that kind of stuff um they may put you on the bench at that point um you know if they see what they like um but the main test in here uh you got a 40 you’ve got a shuttle you’ve got a broad jump you’ve got a triple broad jump which the triple broad jump is starting from a broad jump and it’s it’s exactly what it sounds like you start from a broad jump you hop you hop you hop and then they measure how far it is it is in you know the the the broad jump is is great but the triple broad jump brings into um account balance it brings into account a couple different things that they they view as a valuable testing metric um and it’s you know not everybody does it but Penn State sort of Falls in that if you watch some of the the videos that we’ve put up in the past of you know I think last year at the mini camp the defensive linan were doing it it is it’s not easy to do and it kind of separates the athlete like the legitimate athletes from the the not legitimate athletes I mean there’s guys that can uh broad jump pretty far that have trouble with the coordination of triple broad jump so if you’re going into Penn State’s Camp definitely be aware of the triple broad jump because it’s something they do so what they do is that they put you off with coaches and this is not just Penn State coaches this is where the value this is where the real value is for for these Prospect camps is you’ve got coaches from Penn State you sometimes you get coaches from Old Dominion Boston col you know these other uh D1 programs that’ll come in um because they have good relationships with the staff they’ll check out their prospects you’ve got FCS or Mac guys you got FCS guys you go all the way down um to D3 coaches that are here so Joe Morehead was here last year I think for a couple yeah Joe was here Donovan his son was uh was throwing for Penn State but uh yeah you’ve got all the way down to n NAIA school so if you’re looking to strike up a relationship catch the eye it’s not just going here to work out for Penn State and you’ll see that when you get to the camp because you’re going to be broken down into groups um sort of by ability or by like because there’s a lot of film breakdown that goes into these camps but you go and you get in these certain tiers and you go with the coach and you know the top tiers are with the Penn State assistant coaches and then they you know sort of filter down to the other position group so it is not fair for everyone it’s not going to be the camp experience you know if you’re coming in and you know you you don’t have or not in shape or something like that you get paired off with a D3 coach and no no disrespect to the D3 coaches because they probably work harder than anybody um but you know you’re very aware of where you’re at in these in these and then you get uh you know you go through position drills you go first the stretching the the position drills and all that stuff um and then you go through one-on ones you go through working with the actual position coaches that you’re you’re with I mean it it is strenuous it is not a situation where you’re just coming in to um you know just mess around and see kind of see where you stand like this is uh this is a serious thing for for a lot of coaches beyond the Penn State staff so I think that’s where it gets into it is you want to be on be uh in front of as many coaches as possible I love that he said how can you stand out because I have seen some kids that have made themselves stand out just by clothing choice I still think of Stefon Morris in these really long tight white pants you just stand out when you do that and not everybody realizes that because a lot of these positions a lot of guys look the same and uh it is a is an opportunity that you can make yourself stand out just by just by your clothing choice and Ryan that’s where I kind of wanted to go next just the number of players not just this camp but all summer that are come through Penn State’s lash building and their practice facility so standing out is a thing in this of you know if you’re not a guy that obviously looks like a football player you’ve got to then kind of look like a football player when you move so I guess what are your thoughts on what what to expect from what Pense fans should know about uh you mentioned some of the guys you were writing about that are 2025 prospects coming to camp for players who are trying to make that move trying to make that position of I’m somebody you should take seriously I’m somebody you should give an offer or an official visit to how important are the numbers they put up in these camps well very important I mean look there’s going to be 350 kids probably somewhere around that ball park I would I would think on Sunday you know throughout all their camps now they’re going way more seven on seven this year than at Le Prospect camps but in previous years where they’ve had a little more Elite Prospect camps I think the numbers ended up being around you know 1,200 to 1500 campers um there there’s gonna be a ton of guys that come through you know as far as you know standing out look it’s it’s it’s an as Sean said it’s it’s an it’s a job interview it’s an exam you’re going to have to put up some very good numbers if you’re serious about playing on a division one level at the same time I mean even if you like for example I always look back to Peter Gonzalez’s 32 triple broad like that was a number that was like wow that that really like a 416 shuttle last year didn’t have an offer for the longest time but like that got on the radar and that’s that’s what sticks so you know but even if like look I I don’t know anything about who you bringing up or whomever but like you know even even able to do like mid 20s and stuff like that like that th those are those are good numbers for different levels um so just giving it your best you know going out there you know not not the goofing off is the wrong way to put it but like I see so many guys who like kind of put put off coaches by you know just just the little things you know not paying attention to to to the way the drill is supposed to be run or whatever it may be you know so just having complete Focus you know giving it at your best I think that’s that’s basically all you can really do but you know for for that’s a good point we see the kid with the ice bag 10 minutes into it I mean that’s that’s tough to tough to watch knowing that there’s an entry fee but if you’re gonna I mean you know if you’re you’re gonna play at this kind of a level man uh the standards are incredibly High uh so you know we we we’ll see where end up but um you’re going to have to put up some some awesome numbers and and Eric I’m glad you’re bringing him as a 26 Prospect because that a lot of the focus is the younger guys like it’s um like if you’re if you’re starting right now um there was a uh there was a post on our message board about Aaron enine um the walk-on receiver from Manheim Central that’s coming to Penn State I think he’s really good like I think looking at the Big 10 uh the big 33 game caught a couple of balls uh 62175 and it can run they just mhm from from this post on the message boards they expected schools to come to them and it just didn’t work out that way so like showing the initiative to get 2026 2027 kids on there um is the way to do it because you got to catch the this is the this is the attention grabber if you’re not um at one of those big schools and and it’s that’s not fair either but like if you’re not one at one of those big schools where all the coaches are making not weekly stops anymore but regular stops uh during valuation periods this is also and by the way you guys were in sync because I was just going to ask about that I was just going to talk about guys that we’re going to be talking about might be guys from 26 and even 27 uh after this week you know from this particular Camp because the 25 guys there are we have that uh understanding of who they are more than some of these players that are kind of coming into their own high school 2025 recruitments are 75% done yeah right I mean like that yeah I was to say even that was like pretty conservative I mean we know who Penn State’s top top guys are I mean there’ll be a couple who trickle in but you know if you’re a 2025 guy trying to get on Penn State’s radar you’re going to have to put up some theane numbers this week yeah and and even ones that did last year did not necessarily end up who was that defensive end uho yeah what go with Ugo I mean he he had like a 33 triple his tape kind of showed that he not play football but like other than that like you know it was it was an eye- opening experience the last thing I guess the from a question perspective and from a looking at the situation perspective is um these how these numbers are then used later so we talked about in this show the official visitors coming in we there’s a lot it feels like this class there’s less data than there has been in previous years is that fair you know or is it just that there are select players that don’t have any and so it’s creating an air of mystery because how how are these then weighed when you have a guy maybe you don’t have that information for but you do have it for a regional Prospect and you feel comfortable knowing what their their Baseline is as an athlete versus somebody who hasn’t given that information out maybe to you or to anybody in terms of testing and and putting that in their profile uh Fitz what do you think it’s tough I don’t think it’s much more than before um you’ve got guys that have come to Camp then you’ve got like the Under Armor like they subscribe to the Under Armour UC report where they get the the results from there track is a big one like you you want your kids to run track because because it’s going to be something that that puts out another data point for you um and and by the way Brandon finny um very fast but I think an encouraging thing from him this track season is he’s not like college track fast like he I think he was 10 n in his in his uh Conference Final which actually dejon Lane was 106 um I think we I I said that last week I don’t know why I said it again but like that’s that’s good because CRA it’s a it is an eye opener that says hey uh college track is really really really fast even like like mentioned Delaware state had three guys in 10 104 and Below like in the hundred think about that for a second yeah that’s insane but he’s not a like a college like he’s not gonna go to Oregon to run track like is what I’m saying so that that helps there um but yeah this the staff is like looking for every potential piece of data that they could they had a guy set up for an official visit um for this uh for this month and I was looking at 100 times he ran consistent 11 sixes he’s he’s not visiting anymore so like that that’s kind of stuff they’re looking out for that’s the last thing I had um I know Ryan you said you were getting a preview a notebook of what’s coming up this weekend Fitz uh what are you working on what are you what are you going to be focusing on with the official visit weekend and with all that stuff yeah we got people asking about commit watch like we’ll continue to gather information all the way through tomorrow and uh post a bunch of stuff um going into the weekend uh there’s no better place to do it than blue Illustrated Ryan has done a phenomenal job by the way um if you’re going to see kick times come out today uh the guy sitting in the top Corner screen from me uh no offense T Frank uh has been all over that the last couple of months um nailed the West Virginia kick was couple more than expect to come couple years get it right okay well I was being before we worked together though so maybe pay Frank give him the code give him the promo code and we’re out of here hold on real quick taking a compliment come on man anyone knows me those I love the jab um if you just right off the bat just I’m going to throw a t Frank question one and a half over under for commits this weekend would you agree you’re the worst yes that’s where I’d said it that’s what I’d said it at yeah and I just want to get your opinion on that if you were watching 59 minutes of the show you deserve to know what the over under should be for this one and a half sounds sounds right again we’ve we’ve talked about Lex Cyrus talked about a couple other guys um but you know it’s they they picked up again four on the first weekend last year so like that was I 1. JF just cost PSU another 5.25 million for interfering with the medical decisions of injured players, firing the lead physician, then trying to cover it up. Sitting here eating popcorn waiting for the “every coach does it” comment…. The walls are closing in on this career loser… hope PSU is able to withstand the fallout of his inevitable demise…

  2. Would yllu rate each tight end on their blocking. Let's say 1 for worse and 10 for best. Warren, Dinkins, Cross, Rappelyea, Schlapper (?) and Reynolds

  3. The comment about the university 'thinking small' for a long time is really insightful. This is the battle that needs fought here, and it's the battle that's being fought.

Wish all the doomers out there could see it.

  4. Definitely be nice to get 4 commits. Lex would be huge and definitely would help shape more of the class. Great coverage guys!

  5. Assuming Andrew Olesh doesn’t pick PSU (wears Alabama gloves to work outs), CJF managed to lose out on the top 6 PA recruits for this cycle. Best he could do is 7-8-9. So much for dominating the state…. This guy is exposed. Couple that with a weak NIL program and I suspect future classes will continue to see an overall decline in talent.

  6. The recruiter in chief just cost Penn State 5.25 million because he is a fraud , Penn State needs to earmark enough money this year from the stadium fund to just get rid of this poser once and for all, he does not seem to have the faith or ability to be paid what he is being paid. I would rather see Kotelnicki running the program and settle for a team that can actually utilize the talent rather than watch someone like Drew Allar just rot waiting for a decent receivers coach , 10 years is enough of a window ?
