Rory McIlroy shoots 4-under 66 | Round 1 | RBC Canadian | 2024

In the opening round of the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, Rory McIlroy shot a bogey-free 4-under 66.

The PGA TOUR heads to Toronto this week for the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club. This week is one of the last opportunities to earn a spot in the upcoming U.S. Open at Pinehurst and to qualify for the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday in seven days’ time. Nick Taylor returns after a playoff win at the 2023 RBC Canadian to become the first Canadian to win his national open in 69 years. He claimed victory at the WM Phoenix Open in February and leads all Canadians in the Official World Golf Ranking (30th). Rory McIlroy will also be in the field this week. He is the most recent winner at Hamilton Golf & Country Club, which hosted the Canadian Open in 2019. The Northern Irishman claimed back-to-back wins before finishing T12 in his return to Valhalla for the PGA Championship. Tommy Fleetwood will also tee it up in Toronto this week. He came up short against Nick Taylor last year after losing to a 72-foot eagle putt in the playoff. He has never finished outside the top-10 in two starts in Canada but is looking for his first top-10 payday on TOUR since a T3 at the Masters. Others to look out for are Sahith Theegala, Shane Lowry and Tom Kim.

[Applause] should be moving about a cup and a half from left to right there’s a small Ridge he’s going to be working up right in between right here should start moving right Slow Down slow down good recovery playing downwind at 303 to cover the last bunker on the left hand side this should be perfect just a 315 carry now second for Rory it doesn’t matter if you’re in the Fairway if you’re only 57 yards Susie isn’t that the truth look at this I mean couldn’t have been drawn up any [Applause] better all pars and now one birdie for Rory mroy through 10 and he is one [Applause] under that’s from 169 throwing it very high in the air right at it B you throw it that high up in the air and that’s how it stops I mean that’s the difference right there between the two shot shots yeah 310 to that front edge there Justin back into a slight breeze gave this the full monty though this is heading right yeah just snuck off the right side there you can see that wind picking up this afternoon too than what we saw this morning with that flag stick let one slip by on the last hole don’t want to do it two holes in a row and he does not yeah that was pretty stroke really just been one of those rounds for maoy his speed control in the beginning of the day was not great but certainly since then last eight holes it’s been excellent as it is here hello [Laughter] oh my goodness I thought he made it that’ll be a nice little top in yeah I mean I has this how it not go in just [Laughter] fantastic again just leaking out a little bit to the right but that’s okay yeah well done yeah that’s trying to work its way back to the hole it [Applause] does and Rory’s in there with a birdie Rory mroy coming off the birdie at seven now to the par 3 eighth has a bogey free round going oh and just taking dead aim at it here at the eighth hole took no time at all feeling it now that’s two in a row for maroy bet this is right and slightly long wow great he makes that he cards a 5 under enjoyed watching for the last month or so on cruise control to shoot 30 on his second nine par 70 even on his first nine four under on his second nine and this group can see a lot of people tomorrow so I played the back nine blind hadn’t seen the back n um only played the front line in the proam so I was sort of happy enough to get out of there and even par and not make a poogy um so yeah but once I got that nine holes out of the way um you know I knew there were some chances on that front side and you know played played you know probably much better on that on that front side and you know four birdies and um no boogies was a you know a good day’s work it’s the start of a busy stretch of golf for you and you’ve sort of stepped a bit back from some maybe some of the business off course side of golf how uh exciting is it going forward to know that you’re going to be playing a lot of golf and what is sort of a bit of a mindset change playing being able to focus not purely but mainly on the golf course yeah um I think when all of us are able to focus purely on the golf again that would be uh that would be welcome by everyone um but yeah I’ve played a lot of golf this year um I was on a a 4-we stretch um sort of through through Augusta and then I had you know two weeks quill Hollow and PJ and I’m on another four-week stretch so um yeah I’ve I’ve played a lot but it’s it’s been good you know it’s been um you know i’ I’ve started to play my way into form and I’ve you know I’ve played well the last few weeks and and hopefully I can just keep that going thanks for watching the PJ Tour on YouTube to watch watch more click here to subscribe click here
