Mavericks beat the Thunder it’s a fun night of basketball we had a double header we’ll talk about it momentarily first though quickly let me set today’s schedule for you in about 20 minutes in the was in the first group out this morning I’ll tell you how he did during a segment we call five more things you need to know yeah we’ll also talk tiger and everybody else you know I was trying to find a local tie though you don’t mind do you I love local ties I love local ties myself so uh we’ll do all that and then we’ll we’ll do gp’s carry out and then we’ll call a day we’ll be done with this so that’s a rundown we got a lot to get to uh but I did want to start with the 2024 NBA playoffs because after last night’s double header I don’t know if you’ve been keeping count but I wasn’t I wasn’t we are now 26 full days into the 2024 NBA playoffs 26 like it just started yesterday no it didn’t start yesterday it was a whole bunch of yesterdays ago we’re now 26 full days into the 2024 NBA playoffs and we haven’t even reached the halfway point yet is that true I mean we’re not even I mean there’s four rounds right yeah and we’re not completely into round three yet so we haven’t even reached the halfway point how about that one day I’m certain the NBA playoffs are going to be so long we’re all going to die during them oh yeah that’s probably like we will die like you you’ll be like oh yeah remember remember so and so he died right in the middle of the NBA playoffs and and then it’ll be like everybody dies in the middle of the NBA Playoffs it takes up most of the year that’s where we’re headed with this thing true that’s where we’re headed night 26 it gave us a a triple double from Luca dones oh how about that you caught it it’s the best player in the world right there you keep saying that I don’t think you’re right but today’s a you know if you ever G to say it today’s a good day to say it LCA donic gets a triple double Dallas takes a 3-2 lead in its Series against Oklahoma City I think that’s the place to start final score Mavericks 104 Thunder 92 big bet Bennett predicted a Dallas win he insisted Luca would have a nice bounceback game both things came true Dallas did not allow Oklahoma City to score more than 25 points in any quarter and Luca donic again produced a triple double he took 22 shots made 12 of them finished with 31 Points 11 assists 10 rebounds and very little complaining do you notice this dude I noticed Jared asked him about it in this post I saw he was like Hey I noticed you weren’t bitching non-stop tonight like damn dude that is more or less what he said doing like hey I noticed you weren’t just complaining nonstop tonight yeah what is it is it obvious to you let’s stop here for a second that either he has heard that this is like hey people are tired of it stop or or somebody talked to him and said it’s not coming across the right way you need to focus on basketball and stop trying to draw fouls and complain about every little thing that happens in every there was because it was an obvious clearly different approach last night I would think someone said to him dude the officials you’re getting on their nerves like I mean that I think is a like whatever whatever the fans think the fans think but I would assume that someone in his Circle said dude these officials don’t like you like you need to stop and also hey by the way I don’t know if you are F but the same people who think you either are the best player in the world or could be the best player in the world like they’re tired of this too even the people who adore you are like stop come on man y just just play basketball so he was on his uh best behavior last night he AC accepted fouls it was hilarious he got called for a foul and he held his hand up and he just left he left it up the whole time like give it to me get call that one on me yell my number give me that foul so um he was on his best behavior and he goes out and has a nice bounceback game and now the Mavericks are just one more win away from the Western Conference finals and again it comes on a night where Oklahoma City just couldn’t score I mean 22 22 23 25 total of 92 there was that spot in the third quarter we sort of laid down me and my little guy cuz he’ll like lay down with you and actually watch a game with you he doesn’t need an iPad in front of him like he’s actually interested in the game and there was this I know right I like I appreciate that like he’ll watch a Mets Philly game with you and then he’ll watch a thunder Mavericks game with you he just enjoys watching uh the games and so we’re watching the third quarter like he’s about to he’s about to fall asleep like third quarter is about like it’s almost time to go and there’s a stretch in the middle of the third quarter where Oklahoma it felt like they missed 50,000 shots in a row it was just one open three after another and they could not make anything and ultimately that was their undoing they just couldn’t score they couldn’t get into the lane couldn’t get to the rim so they became a three-point shooting team last night roughly 46% of their field goal attempts Came From Beyond The Arc 46% in the regular season Oklahoma City the number was 38% only 38% of their field goal attempts Came From Beyond the r last night 46% it went up and that’s a byproduct of you can’t get into the lane what are you going to do so that alone taking rough nearly half your shots from three like that alone is not a disaster for anybody including Oklahoma City but it was a disaster last night because they couldn’t make the shots they took 43p pointers and they missed 30 of them so 46% of their field goal attempts came from three and they missed 75% of them you ain’t beating Dallas with those numbers um they did Oklahoma City make a lineup change in an attempt to add shooting Josh giddy out as a 34% three-point shooter who in this series is only shooting 21% from three man and they’re not even guarding him dude I I mean there’s that one it got it went viral last night he’s in the corner and like they’re just not even they’re not even the series is doing him no favors dude I he he’s one of those guys GP that honest like he’s a starting point guard in this league and I could see him being an end of the bench guy well this is next season somewhere else if he’s not there well this whole thing’s been a tough situation for Oklahoma City cuz like who is had it really tough over the past couple of weeks who’s been going through it you ready Canadians yes and people who may or may not be may or may not be attracted to young people now what is Oklahoma City filled with what Canadians and people who might be attracted to young people oh okay am I wrong I guess not where Shas Alexander from he is Canadian where’s lud dor from oh he’s Canadian too they do have a lot of Canadians what’s Josh what’s what’s Josh giddy up to Google that and see Google and see you Google yourself we talked about before been a bad run for Canadians and people who might be into young people so is it should we be shocked that Oklahoma City is melting under these circumstances Maybe not maybe not so they get Josh giddy out y of the starting lineup because nobody will guard him anymore and it’s hard to play four on five on offense we’ve tried that before here in Memphis it’s difficult right so they put Isaiah Joe into the starting lineup he’s 42% three-point shooter um so it made sense on a surface level uh we need to add shooting let’s get out the non-shooter that they won’t guard and put in a shooter that they’ll have to guard problem of course is that Isaiah Joe did not uh he didn’t make he didn’t make shots either he was two of eight uh from three and because he was ineffective then the lineup change does you no good and he ends up being minus n for the game so he ends up hurting more than he helps I understand the logic behind the lineup change but didn’t work again now Dallas just one more wi away from the Western Conference Finals game six that’s going to be Saturday night in prime time and the Mavericks you know they have opened as three and a half Point favorites so barring a surprise it’s going to be Denver and Dallas in the Western Conference Finals that’s where it appears we’re headed which is interesting right yeah I’m not I’m still I’m not completely giving up on the Timberwolves I haven’t given up on anybody I’m just saying baring a surprise the the the most likely thing that could happen right now is nuggets Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals anything other than that by definition would be surprising so barring a surprise it’s going to be Mavericks and nuggets and that’s like Nicole joic and Jamaal Murray on one side Luca donic and Kyrie Irving on the other side I can get into that I can get into that get I can get into that but the Mavericks going to have to win one more game in the next one that’s going to be on Saturday night in Prime Time elsewhere last night we had game five Celtics Cavaliers no Donovan Mitch no Jared Allen understandably Boston pulled away in the fourth you might wonder like why they have to wait till the fourth to pull away I don’t know it’s just what they did it’s just what they do but they did ultimately pull away final score Celtics 113 Cav 98 Jason Tatum he got 25 points 10 rebounds nine assists so the Celtics are in the Eastern Conference Finals for the sixth time in the past eight years not quite as consistent as as our King was once upon a time but six times in eight years that’s impressive congrats to Brad Stevens and everybody involved but the good stuff in the East that came after the game when sham shiria Joe Varden and Jason ly at the athletic dropped a well Source story on the situation in Cleveland and the cliff notes version is that everybody seems to hate JB bicker staff and he’s probably done very that’s very weird to me I I don’t understand I don’t understand JB biger staff is an interesting uh coach in this league when it comes to this kind of stuff because like with the Grizz obviously I’m glad the Grizzlies are where they are and I’m glad they hard Taylor Jenkins and like this thing’s taken off and it appears to be going in the right direction but like when they when uh bigger staff took over for fizdale here um and he was gone I was like huh interesting he did a he did a pretty good job here but again it’s a coach taken over different you know he was part of the old regime you’re moving whatever this situation seems even more so like dude this dude like turned this thing around he’s actually in the Eastern Conference semifinals he was in the Eastern Conference semi-finals and got eliminated by what is from a record perspective at least the best team in the NBA while missing you know your best player two of his top three scores right and he has accomplished a lot of things as a coach in Cleveland that when you start you know bullet pointing it for graphics and stuff first time the Cavs have done this since LeBron James left first time the Cavs have done this since LeBron James left first time the Cavs have done this since uh you this is the only time they’ve done it without LeBron James being a part of it since before LeBron James was a part of anything so he’s accomplished from a record perspective from a postseason perspective theoretically he should probably be safe but this article in the athletic um seems to suggest that as GM and him don’t see eye to eye that’s never good sure and the bigger problem Donovan Mitchell doesn’t seem to respect him like that’s the that’s the issue here the sourcing is that Donovan Mitchell does not believe in JB bicker staff okay and that comes in like quite literally the same paragraph that explains how the Cavs are desperately desperately trying to get Donovan Mitchell to sign a contract extension four years $28.5 million so just like you ain’t even got to be an inside to piece all this together they desperately want to resign Donovan Mitchell Donovan Mitchell doesn’t believe in JB bicker staff the whole story starts with an incident between Kobe Alman and JB bicker staff back in December they end up in an overtime game against the rockets and Donovan Mitchell played 45 minutes including every minute of the nearly every minute of the second half and overtime and after the game this is how they set up the whole story Kobe Alman comes into JB bicker staff’s office and like lets him have it pretty good like what are you doing playing this guy 45 minutes in a regular season basketball game and JB reportedly explained to him I asked him if he wanted to come out he said he wanted to keep playing and they said well that ain’t up to him it might not be up to you but you can’t be pushing this guy 45 minutes in the regular season this is not how we do things it got loud other people heard it oh wow and then um when you combine that with the reporting that Donovan Mitchell doesn’t believe in him as a Difference Maker or even a quality coach at this level when that story drops on you literally minutes after your season ends it’s over for you yes you don’t you don’t survive this either way they got a ton of stuff if you take the reporting as truth and I do these are three quality NBA reporters they got a lot of problems in Cleveland because it’s not just Donovan Mitchell doesn’t respect JB bicker staff and Kobe Alman doesn’t respect or it appears JB bicker staff it’s that Donovan Mitchell doesn’t want to play with DAR Darius Scarlett anymore and vice versa all right so they want to resign Donovan Mitchell in the story it says the second they resigned Donovan Mitchell you know what Clutch is doing saying Darius Garland needs a trade out of there meantime Evan Mobley and Jared Allen don’t want to play together anymore there’s some concern within the franchise that you can’t um develop properly Evan Mobley properly develop Evan Mobley with Jared Allen playing with them interesting so your two guards don’t want to play together anymore your two bigs don’t want to play together anymore and oh by the way the Locker Room’s frustrated with Jared Allen because he’s got bruised ribs missed the playoffs that’s right and reportedly declined an injection that could have allowed him to play I’ll be honest with you the CU he’s a guy that you hear Grizzlies fans talking about Jared Allen cuz it seems like that would be a good fit here I’m not so sure I mean if if that’s true that him and Evan Mobley don’t want to play together like why would him and jiren want to play together I mean I mean that’s fair I I think the the argument would be because they’re still trying to develop Evan Moy and he is stunting that development whereas here you’re not really trying to develop as much as you’re trying to like go win now but that’s concerning to me if like and I’m not trying to uh you know like tell Jared Allen like what to do to his body yeah well it just gets into a complicated conversation I I’m just I I will say this if the your doctors and your TR medical staff training staff are telling you it is safe to do this and you can play if we do this then that’s a problem for me if you’re not willing to do it I I think so too I mean again like you don’t want to tell guys you know it’s their body they know how they feel I I get all that but I it would a red flag if my doctor said this is safe and if you do it you can play basketball and there are no um risk involved no real risk involved and there’s no risk of further damage involved I know you can’t play without this shot but with this shot and there’s no risk with the shot you can play and you still choose not to I judge you on that I do I I say I say man there’s something not right with you if you’re not willing to if you’re not willing to take what is being described as a safe shot to play basketball at this level that says say something to to me about you I would not I would not be fond of that I don’t think I would either yeah you know what I got I got names I could call that person uhhuh one of them start don’t do it no no no okay don’t do that no okay no name calling no name calling not on a not on a Thurs is it Thursday it’s Thursday not on a Thursday we do our name calling on Fridays usually so we’ll just we’ll pom I guess Bart torvic another one that’s out there it’s Evan mia.com and a man who runs it is Evan Mia Cawa who is a data scientist who has now carved out his own space in college basketball Evan I appreciate you being here and let’s start with that you have a PhD you’re a data scientist how did you end up talking about uh balls bouncing and dunks with uh dummies like me you’re too smart for this stuff I think well I think it just comes down to the fact that I love college basketball um I I grew up in Indianapolis I’ve been a huge Butler Bulldogs fan my whole life I was at the butler Duke national championship game when Gordon Hayward almost hit that famous shot so I think from then I was just determined to find a way to uh you know merge what I’m doing for a career with the sport that I love in college basketball so that’s really What’s led to uh my love of the sport um while I was working on my PhD and statistics I decided to make this uh college basketball analytics website and it’s kind of just organically grown up grown into this big thing that I now do full-time uh for a living which has been really great so there’s a lot of different tools on there uh that that a lot of coaches and media members and fans use um you know if you’re familiar with a site like kenpom it’s kind of similar but it’s more play up and liner lineup focused and during this part of the offseason and a huge emphasis is the all of my transfer portal projections that I have there well that is why I wanted to talk to you because um there’s some interesting data that suggests Penny Hardaway has um enrolled one of the best transfer portal classes in the country your system has it ranked seventh and I think what’s most interesting is according to your system every player that penny is bringing in grades out better than every player that has been lost by Memphis to the transfer portal can you expand on that what is it exactly best is you can explain it to us that makes Penny hardways trans for portal class um Elite relative to the rest of the sport yeah so what I do when I’m evaluating any player in the transfer portal is basically I have a suite of different Advanced metrics that quantify how good a player is or how valuable they are to their team on the offensive and defensive end so when a player enters the portal what I end up doing is projecting how good they will be for any future team that they play kind of regardless of of how good that team is or how good their conference is is kind of equalized for all of that and so when I look at all of Memphis as players basically what I’m doing is I’m saying that the guys that they have coming in the guys that are going out how um how effective are they supposed to be next season offensively and defensively and so as you mentioned uh Memphis has brought in seven recruits so far in the transfer portal and I have six of those seven as all being better players next year in this terms of this projection system than any of the players that they’ve lost in the portal and that’s really impressive and when you kind of um summarize all of that together I have a part of my website where I actually rank transfer classes both in terms of just the incoming players that you have but also um accounting for both your incomings and outgoings just to see how good was your transfer activity as a whole in this portal and Memphis rates top 10 in the country in both of those they have a top 10 incoming transfer class and they also are top 10 in overall transfer activity which means they have greatly increased how good their team is going to be through the portal as opposed to some other teams who might bring in some good pieces but have lost more than they’ve gained so what of the interesting things is that um according to your data Dan dja is the highest rated incoming transfer for Memphis I think if you were just to ask Memphis fans who they’re most excited about um you know you might get a Tyrese hunter or a PJ hagard what is it specifically about Dane dja that U makes your system respect him say more than maybe just a casual college basketball fan I certainly think there’s plenty of reason to be excited by those guys that you mentioned Tyrese Hunter uh PJ Hagerty those are probably going to be more of the main stars with this team you know along with potentially a David Jones if he comes back but I’m really excited about Dane jja and I like what the numbers are showing about him basically you know he played a limited role for Illinois the last couple Seasons but he’s been very efficient in limited minutes uh when you kind of scale that up to you know per 40 minute numbers he’s a really efficient scorer he shoots an amazing uh makes an amazing percentage of his shots from the field 67% and another big part of this that lot of people don’t really count for in the transfer portal is actually put a lot of emphasis or maybe the correct amount of emphasis on defense in the portal a lot of people just look at offensive stats but Dan D’s defensive projection is actually very very good and that’s part of what carries him to be uh the highest by slight slightly the highest ranked uh incoming transfer for Memphis um when you look at how Illinois’s defense performed while he was on the floor the last couple years they were always performing at their best level when he was underneath the rim so if he’s able to have that at Memphis I think he’s going to do really good things and surprising people so uh the per minute stuff is obviously impressive um big picture he didn’t play that many minutes is that a question for Brad Underwood or is there an explanation there I think it could go both ways um one of the nice things about my projection system is that it’s predicting uh kind of regardless of what your usage level is and so if a player ends up playing more or less that’s not really supposed to impact too much of what their projected uh basian performance rating which is the the metric that I use uh is using and so basically essentially what the the transfer portal rankings are saying is if everyone plays kind of a lot or a little kind of regardless this is how good they’re supposed to be and so I’m predicting that even if dja uh grows in his role at Memphis it’s not like he’s going to get that much worse than what he’s before or maybe another way of putting it is he was so good in limited minutes that even if you expand his role and he gets slightly less efficient he’s still going to be very good for Memphis I’m talking out Evan Mia Cawa from Evan Mia uh he’s got uh the Memphis transfer portal class ranked among the top 10 in the country I saw you and Ken pomoy tweeting back and forth about this earlier in the week and I think it was Ken’s point was it’s sort of interesting how quiet people are about Memphis this off season as opposed to how loud folks were about Memphis last off season um I do not have Memphis in my top 25 and one right now I’m not sure anybody has Memphis ranked in any preseason rankings right now in a traditional top 25 or top 26 um should we Are We Wrong are we missing something um I don’t necessarily think so but I think a lot of this hinges on if David Jones comes back if he’s back I think we’re having a very different conversation I think Memphis is probably more in the top 20 top 15 conversation at that point because David Jones was an incredible incredible player for them last year you know he averaged over 20 points seven rebounds a game uh so I definitely think that addition would would move them into that conversation without him I still think that they’re probably you know on the right side of the tournament status as of right now um you know I really like the pieces that they have it would be nice though if if you know some of their incoming pieces were able to mesh with a guy like David Jones and so you don’t have to necessarily put all the scoring load on a PJ Hagerty and a Tyrese Hunter for example if they could be kind of the B to David Jones’s a that would make a big difference but regardless I still think that this Memphis team is kind of you know in the tournament conversation for sure and if they have a good season they definitely could be in the top 25 at some point I think a lot of the reason why people aren’t talking about them as highly as last season is because they brought in some good transfers last year and then the team kind of got burned a little bit and so I think fans are a little bit more wary I think in general with this transfer portal era um you know if it’s your first time getting a big transfer Hall and your school has lots of nil you’re ecstatic and then if your team underperforms you realize it’s not just about the names you bring in they actually have to mesh and perform well and so I think from a Memphis standpoint that’s you know still needs to happen I think that’s the absolutely correct explanation um I talked about this last season as it pertains specifically to North Carolina like we are impacted our judgment we’re humans by uh by what we’ve just seen and when North Carolina was coming off of a trip to the national championship game and bringing all of those pieces back we were like that’s the preseason number one team in the country and then it it just didn’t happen so The Following Season we all I think overcorrected and didn’t have them ranked High Enough enough because we had just seen them get we got burned by it the year before and that is what’s going on with Memphis right now to some degree because we just watched a team full of transfers fall apart you’re a little skeptical like I looked in the the replies underneath you and Ken’s conversation and I don’t have to get specific with it but most of the replies were oh yeah they bringing in some great transfers but um you know the coach just brought in as consistently brought in good players and it hasn’t consistently been NCA a tournament level uh you know caliber teams is that a fair assessment from from Outsiders yeah I think so I think there’s more to be proved uh with Penny Hardway in terms of getting really good roster pieces to actually perform well as a unit on the court he’s obviously had some good Seasons at Memphis but I don’t think he’s ever um extracted as much as as much potential as possible out of any roster that he’s had uh you know I I think arguably last last year’s Squad was supposed to be better than any of the teams he’s had before and they kind of fell flat in the in the second half of the season um so so I do think that’s a a fair critique and so hopefully this season can be the the um you know he can find that success the the winning ingredient whatever it takes um but it’s more just more about just your individual pieces it’s about getting the whole of all of your parts to perform well um one another interesting just sort of project you recently did uh showed you that nobody is taking transfers and develop developing them um more consistent conly well than Yukon and Arizona which I guess shouldn’t be a surprise because those are two of the best programs in America being run by two of the best coaches in the sport Dan Hurley and Tommy Lloyd beyond that um what what does that tell you about what’s happening right now at Arizona and Yukon and is is that something that you know feeds into itself in other words once it becomes common knowledge that transfers who go to these places really do flourish then it helps you get the next round of really good transfers 100% I I think there’s two parts to this one is that the teams with the biggest budgets and the most money and the biggest Prestige will often get the best transfers and thus those players will play well right I mean hunter Dickinson at Kansas was the number one transfer last off season he went to Kansas he was good but I think the more interesting question is saying if you’re a transfer and you’re considering several different schools which one is actually going to help you grow the most develop and be the most productive and so when you look at it from that standpoint and saying which player in the portal when they go to a school will often outperform their expectations it’s Arizona and Yukon and I I don’t think that’s very surprising uh I think Yukon has kind of reached this status now where any player that they recruit everyone automatically thinks oh well that guy must be better than I thought because Dan hurle wants him right and so I think you know cam Spencer last year is an example I don’t think people were necessarily super thrilled about cam Spencer coming from Rutgers they thought he was a nice piece and he turned out to be one of their best players a crucial piece to them win in the National title and so when you fast forward to this year and the players that they’ve got in the transfer portal um you know some of those players you might say well you know if they went to a different school I don’t know if I’d be high on them but if if he’s going to Yukon that must mean he’s really good well I also think that just speaks to those teams those schools those coaching staffs being really good at maximizing production from transfers especially when you’re having to immediately plug them in and play them from a different system that can be challenging so teams like Yukon and Arizona have done a really good job with that so think that a helps them with recruiting and saying hey if you come play for us you’ll be good but B I think there’s also just this level of confidence that they’re going to be able to get more out of their transfers than other teams and you know this extends to Mid Majors as well um in the last five seasons I Had Drake as the top mid- major in this category which I think votes well for West Virginia as their head coach Darren deze you know is leaving Drake to go to West Virginia hopefully that that means good things for them getting uh production from their transfers wrapping up here with Evan MIAA from Evan m.com last thing uh Before I Let You Go um it’s interesting because this type of data didn’t used to be available to just anybody who wanted to consume it now it is and if you talk to college basketball coaches there are there are people who live and die with this stuff and actually like roster construct with it in mind lineup combinations with it in mind I mean they know everything every little thing it’s amazing there are other coaches who just are dismissive of it like I don’t you know I don’t need this I’ve been coaching 40 years I don’t need this stuff do you have a sense for who’s who who who like do you know is really living and dying and and trying to coach their teams with this stuff in mind and who is uh ignoring it because I just this past season we watched one of the biggest brands in the sport have two lottery picks coming off its bench and there are fans out there who can now dive into this data and distinguish whether this is good or bad smart or dumb and these are tools we didn’t used to have how much do you think it’s actually impacting the way college basketball coaches do their jobs I mean it’s increasing every year I think people coaches are realizing that they have to use this more now my my thing personally with with data like this is that data does not always speak the 100% truth and you throw out other basketball intuition similarly you can’t just completely throw out all the data if you disagree with one data point and say it’s useless they needs to be a a combination of the two combining objective data analysis with your own kind of subjective but expert basketball opinion if you’re a coach so that you can kind of be more informed together that’s that’s my belief and so you know for example in the transfer portal I don’t always just say verbatim well if my my model has a player ranked number one that conclusively means he’s going to be the best obviously someone else could have a different opinion hopefully my data can help inform their opinion to be smarter right I think that’s really where the beauty of it is and so you know I think for coaches the the bottom line is in these days with nil and whatnot their time is is like completely maxed out there’s almost no time at all to dig into anything extra and so any tools any third parties any anything that you can use to more quickly learn and grow your team whether that’s in terms of players you’re recruiting or how to optimize lineups or how to you know allocate minutes on your roster you know anything like that that can help you get there quicker uh is going to be really helpful and so the coaches that are doing that and learning how to do that and having their you know assistance and their video coordinators learn how to do that they’re able to make decisions quicker and in the long term be better and I think two of the programs at least that we saw in the final four that I you know in Yukon and Alabama are known for this they they really dig into the data they don’t necessarily um you know uh look at every single data point but they know what’s up you got a nice transfer that got me excited yeah um you know like the question would Dane dja is going to be okay clearly the per minute stuff and this is you know what I asked de about a little like okay yeah he’s unbelievable on a permanent basis but he also only played 11 minutes a game so so like is that just Brad Underwood ignoring the data or if you were sitting here with Brad Underwood would he tell you I would love to play Dane danger 27 minutes a game but you can’t can’t can’t keep him on the court that long all right so so like you that figure out the answer to that question did Brad Underwood misuse Dane Daner or can you just not play Dane Daner that much figure out the answer to that question then I’ll tell you what Memphis is getting but again the data suggests that Memphis is getting um you know one of the top 55 transfers in the country in in that guy and uh somebody who is going to make an impact uh for the Tigers in what will be the second year in this new worked AAC where Memphis is going to enter the season it seems quite clear as the favorite to win that regular season Championship let’s go let’s go Bennett let’s go sign me up sign me up too to to the point where uh Evan and Ken were talking about like you know me people aren’t really high on Memphis I do think some of that is just because of what just happened to Memphis yeah they did this last year and it didn’t work right and Penny Hardway has now been a coach for six season seasons and they finish in the top 25 at kenpom for what it’s worth two times in those six years now it’s two of the past three but it’s still only two times in a six-year span so if you want to be excited be excited I also understand why some folks are skeptical yeah I’m sort of in the middle I believe they’re going to be good um but uh you know I’ve got them outside of the top 25 one for now yeah I tend to go back to like last last season it’s not that it they they were good for a period of time they were really good basketball team top 10 in the country and so I don’t look at last season and think oh that was a failed experiment like going and getting all those guys that have never played together before that that clearly isn’t going to work because it literally did work it just it fell apart for whatever reason it worked for a while and then it fell apart let me see if I can find this uh I’ve got I bookmarked this back in February because I thought it was interesting Somebody went and looked at all the division one te High major teams that brought in at least seven transfers and you ready for the list mhm it was Arkansas they didn’t weren’t good y it was Arizona State not good okay Memphis okay Central Florida not good West Virginia not good Penn State not good St John’s okay well St John’s was were they bad they weren’t bad they didn’t miss they didn’t make the tournament they didn’t make the tournament the only one that the only one of the group so it’s in total one two three four five six seven eight eight schools seven of the eight missed the NCAA tournament the only one that made it was NC State they went all the way to the final four but remember they’re the ones that needed to win the ACC tournament just to get in that’s true so if they don’t win the ACC tournament every High major team that brought in at least seven transfers would have missed the NCAA tournament that’s uh that’s a small sample size in of college basketball but that is that’s a data point teams that bring in this many players from the transfer portal at least last year none of them were good MH so maybe that’s another part of the skepticism okay it looks good on paper but you know what else also looked good on paper last year Arkansas yeah St John’s Memphis and then on the court it didn’t work out so well St John started bad got good Memphis started good got bad but on the court NC State was bad all year and then just somehow got good like in a two three week span but that that’s another reason to be skeptical teams that brought in transfer Porter players like Memphis is doing for next season teams that did that last season they were not good counterargument to that well how else you want us to build a team idiot right where where do you want to get this is what you have to do you know you can’t it’s hard to retain players now and you know High School guys aren’t winning against 22 and 23 and 24 year olds right so maybe this isn’t the best way to to build a basketball team but it’s the only way available to us so here we go be a fascinating season it will man that okay young people are scared to go over there scared to go over there are you scared bro I live five minutes from there like that that sure maybe that area is like a little more rundown than it used to be when I was a kid but like there’s it’s not that bad over there would you go there at nine o’clock at night if if if I I don’t think it was open I know but I’m saying if Jerry snow cones was open they said tonight only we open till 10:00 uhhuh and I said Bennett go get us some snow cones and you going have to stand in that parking lot for 20 minutes while they’re getting your order ready been yes and I don’t think that is unique to Memphis that is just I I think we all have anxiety about what’s just going on and how much of that is rooted in reality Rel to to how much of that is rooted in we’re just consuming so much bad information that it impacts the way you view the world yeah I mean like here there obviously crime is very bad if you go to channel 3’s website right now and I don’t mean to pick on Channel 3 it could be any any of them yeah but I was sometimes I go to these local news websites just to I want to make sure I haven’t miss anything locally but the television sites are often it’s just like this guy was shot and this guy was arrested and this guy you know did some bad things to a kid this car was and this person carjacking and this woman had 70 dogs in her house for some reason it’s just all like crazy stuff and I wonder if like if we’d be better off if we just didn’t know any of this because when you when you just penetrate yourself with bad ugly the world is going to [ __ ] information like then it’s just like I’m scared everywhere I go scared and now we don’t even have Jerry snow cones I I think there is definitely something to that um and then and then In fairness there are people just like getting shot for no reason no that is that is happening too how you Bal that true I I completely agree like crime is bad here um and so that I I completely agree with that but I don’t know I just as far as like blaming that specific situation on crime I was kind of like okay that rubbed you the wrong way just a little bit it rub that rubb Bennett the wrong way I mean dude like Bennett was rubbed the wrong way by that yeah so again cuz I’m I’m over in that neighborhood all the time like it’s it’s fine Bennett says it’s fine yeah well ever happened to frozen yogurt I don’t think those remember that frozen yogurt like phenomenon I used to go all the time there was one on every corner I don’t think they must not do well literally everywhere you went you could drive two miles and there was a frozen yogurt like build your own frozen yogurt and now every they’re all I don’t know that they’re all closed but like where I used to go to get frozen yogurt is closed and where I used to go besides that play that one’s closed too I think they must just be bad business models it’s got to be you know people were overloading the they’re they’re taking advantage of the build your own I don’t filling it up well I think that’s how they actually get you I mean buddy I’ve been in there I I come out of there CU they charge by the size right they weigh it they weigh it I mean I’ll get out there with a $42 cup of frozen yogurt start throwing Reese’s Pieces on top of it I love that I just don’t love cake I just want to make it clear it’s not like a I got it not count my calories so I don’t want cake mhm I just don’t love it like that I always felt weird I’d go to frozen yogurt place by myself and I would never see another man in there by himself it was always moms and little boys or a couple of moms after a workout class or a couple of high school students and I never saw I never like you go to this place and you never see somebody looks like you there yeah what do you make of that uh I don’t know I didn’t I just never saw another grown man by himself just going in to get yogurt I think I yeah I mean I think that it like every other grown man I saw he had his kids with him and I’ll take my kids but I’ll go by myself think about it I never went by myself to those places so what’s going on with me I mean dude if you want like if if you want a fun little treat I don’t think I mean for me that that’s probably it’s probably why they all went out of business cuz like when I want a fun little treat I ain’t going to the Frozen yogur where you going then for the cake shop for a fun little treat you go to the Cake Shop I don’t know if I if I going treat myself I’m going to get something like fatty like I’m not I want to just get some frozen yogurt put some Reese pie on I mean you’re trying to be healthy over here no I put Reese’s Pieces on it I’m not trying to be healthy I just that’s what I like well maybe that was it too people just thought of that as like oh that’s healthy I don’t want a healthy treat I want a I want a sweet treat we need to talk to a frozen yogurt owner and be like what is going on why can’t you guys stay in business CU they cannot stay in business although there’s one down there on the Square in Oxford and it’s always popping is it oh it’s always everything there’s always popping off everything’s always popping in no uh I saw back to Jerry Stephen said that they are going to open another location so I guess they’re that it’s not going to just be that Cordova location they’re going to open up a new one so that’s good yeah that’s good we’ll have them we’ll have them all over people in the chat they say the one out in C it doesn’t hit it doesn’t hit the right way doesn’t hit the same way well cuz you’re not getting the experience okay but it’s it it is the same I I dude I think it tastes the exact same do you I’ve never been to the one in Cordova I can’t speak on it but it’s but it is not the same as being at that pink building like in that neighborhood it’s it’s it’s different I guess the I guess that’s part of the taste part of the taste the experience Billy Madison came out 96 Happy Gilmore came out and I feel like that everyone was a massive fan of one of those movies like I liked both of them but I feel like you had a loyalty to one more than the other I think everybody love both mine was Billy Madison my in my world down down below the Border uh we like them both I like them both too but I love Billy Madison like that’s one of the best comedies ever it’s just because it’s so is Billy Madison stop looking at me Swan yes I love that movie that that part makes me laugh every time I love that looking at me watch it a million times it’s show they know if they did a good movie they know that like there was that one part in the Tom Brady roast where I guess it was Nicki Glazer was talking about Kevin Hart and and they’re like guys do you realize like Kevin Hart like he’s amazing he wakes up 4:00 every morning to make shitty movies that’s so good so and he lasts cuz you know what he knows oh most of them at least some of them recently did a hey let’s revisit a classic do a sequel and it it was a home run the Top Gun sequel very true they got they knocked that they nailed that one they did nail that one I mean they nailed bangang theory in theory is like hey it’s like these like nerds that like are always at the comic book store I don’t know and like so yeah in theory it’s it’s something that should be at my alley but I never got into that I never got into that either I don’t really watch network television sitcoms what’s the last good one we had the last good the office has to be something since then parks and W people love parks and W oh people love um Abbot Elementary AB Elementary love that and it’s good I don’t think it’s as good as the office was when it was having its run but my wife watches it and like I’m not I don’t really know what’s going on cuz I haven’t watched it in order or anything like that but when I see it when it’s on I I laugh it’s it’s good yeah yeah no I’ve uh I I’ve watched several I tried to like and I here’s what I here’s my experience with Abid Elementary it’s perfectly fine yeah it it doesn’t make me want to like I can’t wait till the next episode right but it’s like it’s quick if it’s on it’s quick quick and it’s fine y you know sometimes you just need stuff that’s quick and fine you know what I’m saying yeah yeah I agree young Sheldon it’s quick and fine you don’t cuz no I think it was here not in Memphis no no no but I think it was in America food truck gets Michelin star that’s a big deal Bennett that’s a huge deal yeah it it yeah it’s in Mexico City oh it is okay does it say their specialty newly minted Michelin star Chef Arturo Rivera Martinez stood over an insanely Hot Grill Wednesday at the first Mexican taco stand ever to get a coveted star from the French dining gu guide and did exactly the same thing he’s been doing for 20 years searing meat he just went out there and seared meat yeah man I think seared meat might be the specialty God I love a taco truck it’s called Tacos El I can’t even do it I mean I got Mexican blood in my veins but I don’t feel appropriate trying to do all these I might have to go get some tacos now I like tacos too man I like the fried ones fried Tacos yeah that you dip in the stuff Dam it that’s called a cheese stick no no no no no believe it’s called like the beer tacos maybe b i r r a is that right the ones that you dip in the in the you’re thinking of a chalupa no no dude they fry the tacos they you dip them in a in a little cup of stuff and it’s amazing you must be thinking of a gordita shout out to my friends at chile verde they make they fry a taco chili bir uh they don’t they don’t but the other other trucks do okay those that’s just that’s just my taco truck that’s the way you like your taco TR those are the guys those are the people that I go to you got your own taco truck correct okay well it well this one down in Mexico City you got a Michelin star shout out that’s awesome yeah you ever food can you but if they’re a Pit Master then they probably want to bring food to show you how how how much they’ve mastered their pit exactly they probably want to show you I’m a master of the pit let me prove it to you I don’t never mind no Pit Master trying to prove anything to me prove everything to me I enjoy a good Pit Master yeah man I enjoy a good Pit Master do you consider yourself a Pit Master no but I can I can find my way around a grill yeah me too same yeah I I wouldn’t consider myself a Pit Master but but like you know no you give me some meat and say hey do something with this I’ll make it happen I can make it happen yeah I might burn a little bit of it but you know I’ll get you something I’ll get you something to eat good I can’t wait for tomorrow I don’t know about
