RBC Canadian Open returns to Hamilton where ‘history will be made again’



We are just a few weeks away from the RBC Canadian Open, which is back in Hamilton this year at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club.

Bryan Crawford, who is the tournament director, joined Tim Bolen to talk about the preparations and who is playing the SirusXM Concert Series.

Taylor pendri is a PGA Tour winner for the first time yeah great weekend for Taylor pendrith great weekend for canyan golf as Richmond Hill native won his first ever PGA Tour title and the six different Canadian players to earn a win in the last seven years one of those wins came in Epic fashion at last year’s RBC Canadian open we’re just a few shorts away from our national title coming back to the h Golf and Country Club great to have tournament director for the RBC Canadian open good Hamilton boy too uh Brian Crawford and you brought some Hardware with you did you pal brought some Hardware that’s what it’s all about one of the most historic trophies in golf there’s only uh two tournaments that are older the US Open the Open Championship so a lot of history on this one good to see you good to see you too yeah I was I was uh out with you uh back in 2019 last time Hamilton golf and country club uh hosted what’s it like to have it back in Hamilton in your hometown yeah I mean you know it’s home game for me personally so I love it but uh you know the club is one of the greatest clubs we have in this country and really it’s you know you don’t find many better in the world it is absolutely fantastic inside outside the ropes and newly renovated uh back in 2020 2021 so we’re really excited to uh you know get all of the players to the course and get them to see all the changes that they’ve made and and and what it what it looks like today is just fabulous as you can see what goes what goes into it like when does prep start for something like for like the Canadian open yeah I mean it’s a you know it’s a yearlong process or more really to uh start start to prepare and you know the build on site is about 20 weeks in total we start in the fall and get some time done before the winter and then uh move on to uh winter time and take a break and then we get back at it again in uh you know early spring so it’s a long process you brought something else with you here a little bobblehead of Nick Taylor because uh the way last year’s ended in just epic fashion with one of the greatest putts in like golf history at the RBC Canadian open to end the rout of a Canadian not winning the Canadian open you were there for that what was that experience like yeah 69 years since a Canadian had won the RBC Canadian open and uh in a playoff to boot as well so to uh you know for Nick to to get up there and drain one from 72 feet you know like unbelievable nerves of Steel to win the Canadian pin uh it was a magical moment not just in golf but in sports and you know I felt incredibly fortunate to have had a front row seat for that and to be part of that great moment and you know you could have asked for a better guy I mean our Canadians are awesome you know Nick is just a you know fabulous fabulous person and and guy you want to root for so there they are right there Apple CEO Canada everybody just fre freaking out so good but that’s the bobblehead of him throwing the putter so uh so we did a uh we did a we did a bobblehead this year the putter toss bobblehead uh it’s a fundraiser for first tea Canada or charitable beneficiary that you know provides golf opportunities uh for kids across the country and uh is really just a Fant fantastic program so that’ll be available on site this year at the tournament uh you know across the property and it’s a pretty cool Keepsake and uh you know piece of Canadian history right there memorialized in a bobblehead uh concert series back yeah concert series is back and three nights this year so uh we start Thursday night with uh it’s an all Canadian lineup this year we’ve really leaned into canadiana with the Canadian champion and those sorts of things so loud luxury on uh on Thursday night on Friday night we have Our Lady Peace in July Talk and then on Saturday uh water down Zone Josh Ross with lindel playing on Saturday night so something for everybody it’s uh you know more than just golf cool we gotta go but quickly mention Rory’s coming back too that’s good good G we got the defending champ at Hamilton against the defending champ from last year so it should set up for a great weekend so this goes how many weeks away this the end yeah we’re just about three weeks away so the yeah the 30th 31st and then the first and second of June is kind of tournament days and we’re going all week with activities awesome so you can get your tickets at uh Canadian openen uh.com I’m assuming Canadian open.com there you go Brian Crawford for the your tournament director good Hamilton boy heading up the RBC Canadian open from the Hamilton Gulf and Country Club
