Raleigh’s Carter Jenkins and Grayson Murray were good friends. They played golf together for so many years, two Raleigh kids who liked to tee it up all day when they could, trading and matching shots. Murray’s death last week has Jenkins struggling to accept it.

yeah when I first when I first got the news um I didn’t really even know what to think I didn’t know what I was thinking I was sort of just it’s like a little bit of an outer body experience more so than anything else um sat there about 5 minutes or so and I just didn’t even really know how to react to it um as the days have gone on it’s gotten more and more real which makes it harder and harder um especially being home this week being out here at Raleigh Country Club it every time I step onto the property it just brings back another memory of what we used to do back in high school when we were both out here and it uh makes it hard to uh wrap your head around the fact that he’s not here any longer right you have to uh accept that um he left a he left a mark here and Raleigh that everyone will remember that’s for sure um and he will be sorely missed but I know he’s uh he’s at peace with himself now for as well documented as his troubles have been uh I think the positive impact he had on people when he was around them uh the passion that he had for this game the way that he loved it the way it was all he wanted to do um leaves a bigger a bigger Mark cuz everyone has struggles um everyone has demons um and he took his demons and was still able to have a phenomenal career and a phenomenal life with them he left an impact on me that I won’t ever forget and I will never take it for granted and I feel for his family and I can’t imagine what they must be going through now um how devastated they must be um his parents were all always so good to me and mine this game is truly a game of life and it will it will beat you down at your lowest points but it will also beat you down when you’re your highest points and that’s one thing that I’ve been trying to figure out and probably never will is Grayson was at probably the highest point of his career yeah and he still was struggling and so it just it gives you some perspective that you never really know what’s going on inside someone’s head no matter how close you are to them um it’s it’s just really tragic that he’s no longer with us it’s gone through my head when I’ve woken up the last 3 days opened my eyes and I knew that so real I knew that he didn’t and that’s that’s hard
