in today’s video we’re going to be covering two main reasons why golfers struggle in their downswing using the driver this implies for golfers who have slower swing speeds but also have quicker swing speeds as well so for those of you who are new to the channel welcome my name is Harry PJ professional transforming golfers worldwide so make sure drop those comments down below with a tips or drills video topic you like me to cover next and be sure to hit the Subscribe button if you enjoy watching this one so let’s kick things off with reason number one now reason number one mainly implies to Golfers who have those slower swing speeds now what we tend to notice with golfers with slower swing speeds maybe have limited mobility and flexibility level so they struggle to generate that speed naturally is that when they come to begin the downwing with driver they have to use other body parts well subconsciously they use different body parts in the downswing being this upper body to bring that club to make contact with the golf born we always always try and swing quicker we’ll always try and swing quicker because it’s the driver we want to be hitting them nice and straight but hitting them as far as we can as well so I’ve had a couple of golfers that have come and see me down here recently where they’ve got to the top of the swing with driveing with irons they’ve been pretty nice and smooth swinging through like so not really a lot of speed taking place but great contacts and hitting them fairly straight every time but with the driver because it’s the big stick they’re like right I need to hit this one now they get to the top of the swing and they initiate this down swing by pushing the club away almost throwing the club out in front of us like this here now the problem with this is it brings the club into the golf ball on too much of a steep angle of attack so even if you were to hit those iron shots on this steeper angle of attack it’s okay because if as long as you hit the golf ball first you’re going to get a nice compressed strike anyway maybe a little bit of a fade taking place but with the driver from this angle here well two things the ball’s on a t so we’re probably going to hit underneath it and end up skying it or we’re going to reverse backwards to try and get this upward motion with the driver and as we reverse back the club’s going to be dragged inwards the hands are going to be dragged inwards towards the body and that actually causes us now and again to cut across the ball or we try and flick at it last minute close that club face down and see those shots that go way too far to the left there’s a lot of inconsistency in there so as opposed to trying to force this movement to take place we want to find a way that we can initiate a little bit more power in the golf swing but also how we can do this effortlessly if we don’t find a way of doing this effortlessly for you we’re always going to revert back to tensing those arms pushing the club out in front of us and then call causing those waywood golf shots so what I want you to do just to begin with is take the club away and I want you to set up as if you were in that driver setup ready to hit the golf ball pull ball position in the front of the stance of course nice fairly wi stance and shoulder width apart and you’re going to bring your hands out in front of you and I want you just to allow them to stay nice and relaxed flop around a little bit keeping them about 5 in apart from each other okay with the Palms facing towards each other now we’re just going to add a little a bit of tension to allow us to swing to the very top and all I want you to think for this back swing here is that we’re just ensuring we’re getting a full nice big turn on the way back taking our time doing this movement in three seconds so one two three and now we can see there my back is facing towards the target towards the net at this indoor facility so one two three working way up to the very top of the Swing so what we should be able to feel that as we get to this top of the swing and we hold this for another 3 seconds is that our arms are beginning to ache and if you can’t feel this just wait for a few more seconds you can feel it they begin to ache and they want to fall well a lot of golfers those of you out there who are suffering with this issue of pushing the club outwards and getting this tension those slower swing speeds will increase this tension and push the club outwards and you can see our hands come over the top they come out in front front of us staying on the same height as our chest whereas we want them to transition this way but how can we do that without having to force our arms downwards and it’s quite simple one 2 three let go of the tension and you can see there as soon as I let go of that tension 1 2 3 let go of the tension the arms drop down naturally they fall this shallower angle I’m not forcing anything in my body whatsoever to happen I’m not forcing this transition move to take plac in that down swing because if we do that a little bit too early for those who suffer with Mobility it’s going to be difficult to keep the hands shallowing downwards and we’ll notice they’ll push out again so it’s one 2 3 and just letting the arms fall you can see there I’m just letting all tension go and I’m just doing this a couple of more times to really allow this feel this sensation to take place and if we begin to try this with the golf club now 1 two 3 turning up to the very top of the Swing one two 3 and we just allow this to fall you can see there that the club now wants to swing very much so from in to out promoting a more into out path and possibly seeing those controlled draw shots as opposed to those slide shots that we were beginning with so slower swing speeds we’ve found a way for you that’s going to allow you to really just swing down effortlessly allow those arms to fall on the way through and just as a bonus tip when doing this I just recommend that now we’re thinking about our back to Target this one two three working up in stages relaxing the arms allowing them to fall but on the way through just think the sternum through to finish I see so many golfers when they get this mov here the sternum will stay almost facing towards the golf ball for longer we want to get this sternum working right the way through to finish let’s just hit one now nice and smooth I’m at uh Spain on the trackman here one of the golf courses I’m just going to hit a shot now just feeling that motion so I’m going to go one two two three up to the top release the tension and then get in that sternum through to Target let’s see what we think one two three and look at that nice little draw down the Fairway very good shot indeed so i’ highly recommend giving that one a try and let’s move on now to reason number two just before we move on to reason number two for those fast swing speeds I would just like to give a quick shout out to GX golf the sponsors to the channel they provide high quality golf clubs for a fraction of the price and I’ve been using them now for the last couple of months really impressed with the quality the feel of them and I’m going to be definitely using these gloves for the rest of the season and you can use my discount code below Harry 10 which I’ll leave in the description as well for you to go ahead and try out these golf gloves for a great discounted price so I’d highly recommend checking them out later on reason number two for those of you who have those higher swing speeds what happens if we’re swinging the golf club much quicker and struggling to find that effortless swing anyway now a lot of golfers you’ll see this on tour loads of tour players with those fast swing speeds they’ll always create a lot of lag now lag is very very good to have in the down swing however it’s very very easy to leave the club face open doing this so what’ll happen is and this is what I’ve suffered within the past when I used to do long drive training was that you’d get to the top The Swinging we notice all these players with faster swing speeds they’ll swing all the way up to the top get this huge turn get their back facing towards that right hand corner of the net here and then to begin the down swing they’ll unleash by starting from this lower body getting this huge separation and then the club comes very close to the right shoulder here but you can see if we were to hold this angle the club face will be left Way open and this is what I was was suffering with as I mentioned earlier but also a couple of the lower digit handicap players were suffering with as well that come and see me they were finding this great lag this great transition happening but they were leaving the club face well open so what I want you to do is when you swing to the very top is you want to encourage a much wider Arc in the down swing now we’re still going to be able to create lag from getting a wider down swing but all you’re going to do is take your hands out in front of you and just have the Palms facing towards the ground now I want you just to apply a little bit of tension just to extend those arms like so and you’re going to hold that tension pushed your hands away from you all the way up to the top of the swing and then you’re going to bring them back down to the golf ball and the feeling of bringing them back down to the golf ball for me it really feels like I’m trying to force my hands to touch the ground force my Palms to touch the ground as I’m keeping in my posture and spine angle here so I’m just getting up to the top really really forcing this pressure all the way up to the top and then I’m really encouraging my hands now to try and touch the floor all the way through to finish because when we create lag we tend to bring those hands very close so if we can keep those arms a little bit more extended in the down swing then it’s going to be much easier to release the club naturally and keep that club face nice and square because holding this angle we then get the club face open but if we force this action here where we’re pushing those hands away trying to get feel like the Palms are moving away from the body to touch the ground below it’s going to be easier to get that club head traveling back down and getting the club nice and square obviously there’s going to be a lot more hip term when we start to hit a couple of shots doing this but we don’t want this hold off here with the dry ever we’ve got to allow that club head to release naturally just like we did with that previous drill for slow swing speeds but for quick swing speeds because we’ve got the speed already we’ve got to control it by applying a little bit of force a little bit of tension by pushing the hands keeping the hands away keeping the width of Arc in the downswing and that’s the crucial part for those of you who are suffering with that rightwood shot with those faster swing speeds so with the golf club I’m just gripping down a touch just to really get this feel all the way back and forth and you can see here I’m not purposely doing this but my trail arm actually extends as we make a way into this position here but the hands are staying lower we’re pushing those hands towards the ground pushing those hands towards the ground is going to make it so much easier for us to get this width in that down swing and if we just continue to rotate now it squares up that club face beautifully so hitting a shot just to finish let’s see what we can do keeping the width applying that speed let’s see if we can hit them nice and straight and that was another nice little drawer it’s definitely gone a bit further just for me applying that bit of tension there lovely drive two lovely drives to finish off this video so if you’ve come this far i’ highly recommend hitting the Subscribe button there’s lots more content coming your way every Tuesday and Friday drop a comment down below and let me know how you get on be sure to check out any of these two videos over here to the right hand side of the screen the top one talking to you a little bit more about the down swing and the bottom one to do with the back swing and I’m going to be revealing my own down swing course that will be available for you to take a look at very very soon so be sure to stay tuned tuned for that as well thank you for watching and we’ll see you in the next video

  1. Another excellent tip which I will immediately put into play in tomorrow's club tournament. What you are advocating with releasing the tension of the arms at the top of the swing and bringing the sternum through is something I don't consistently do. Somewhere along the line, one thing or the other gets stalled out. I also have to remember to push the hands away in order to create a wider arc! Well Done Harry! Always look forward to your input!

  2. i was trying to throw driver along the ball line.but looks like i have to move it inside in an arc.need more on follow through.

  3. u need to put proper tiles/depictions on your videos. almost all videos giving same look although they cover different subjects.
