nothing is more absurd than spending 160 on one wedge for certain golfers but if money and newer grues aren’t the only answer what exactly is in this video not only do I want to give you three great underrated wedge choices but I also simply want to show you how all wedges work and if you want that one stop and bounce it can be done with virtually any wedge not the worst stopping power for a wedge that would be found at the car boot also big thank you to my partners advice golf for sponsoring this video and I’ll explain a bit more later why these can be so important and for some golfers not that important now before I get into my three choices which I do think are the best options in terms of value for money in 2024 I can’t ignore my beginner option that I did a video on the other day it’s forgiving it’s chunky it’s very much like an automatic car and even though I’m going to show you how to shift gears with the other ones for a lot of you starting this game I’ll show you the price up here on the right hand side I honestly don’t think you can get a better start to this game and very quickly thank you to everyone that subscribed after the last video almost 200 people in a day which is crazy have you ever wondered why when you hit your wedge it basically goes up in the air and into the wind basically comes back down at you however to Simply understand what’s going on I’m going to do two swings both at 75 mph swing number one is where the club face is just too open on the way down left wrist is very CED and because that face is so open well of course I have to release early hands very much behind the ball otherwise it’s going to go to the right hand side 73 mph Club head speed 60 MPH ball speed only 60 yards in distance and well a bit of snow on that shot versus swing number two again at 73 M an hour oh that was a lot slower yet it’s almost gone 20 yards further I guess this kind of proves my point more than anything else 65 M hour 71 miles an hour ball speed lower launch and more importantly a lot more distance that the wind’s not going to touch and neither of those shots are bad yet I imagine a lot of you were stuck with swing number one and this is for all you guys that scoop or have a chicken wing or hands behind the ball no matter how hard you’ve tried not doing anything wrong apart from if there’s nothing for the ball to hit against your compression is always going to be low it’s why the driver maxes out at 1.5 I.E 100 mph Club head speed and 150 ball speed is why the 7 ey Max is out at one point 3 five because well it’s got Loft we want the ball to go up in the air and we want the spin and depending on the type of wed shot we either going to get 1.15 with with loads of forward lean or if you’re playing a flop shot one however if you’re struggling with that high flop shot everywhere it’s because you’re coming down and this wrist is pointing to the sky and the club face is way too open couldn’t care less where your Club half is but to square that face up at whatever Club Edge speed you’ve got to do a lot of this because if you don’t and you go with that forward lean with this open face well it’s only ever going to go to the right so practice shutting that face pointing that wrist down get used to moving your low Point ahead of the ball meaning if you exaggerate it you’re going to have this very much fizzing punch shot into the green right my first pick the most affordable option and mauno doesn’t do well in the wedge Market even though it does so well with the irons but for me this is a step up from the Cleveland beginner wedge as it has a tiny bit more versatility and whilst you’re trying to stop well doing that and just like all the wedges in this list I feel like you’re going to be able to buy this second hand and without hitting 1,000 shots out the bunker with it you’re going to get some of the value back now for that golfer that does have swing one and doesn’t get any distance I would opt for something that doesn’t spin as much around the green because evidently you’ve got the stopping power you just need a bit more distance whereas this is going to help aid with that compression and touch around the green I had to include one of the most underrated brands in golf in terms of the secondhand market and why they just don’t do that well but this particular wedge and wedge build basically explains a few down fls of secondhand club and something you could probably steer away from number one wedge colors they look great on the Shelf but sadly last all of about 3 months however this club also highlights something that helps in terms of Spin and control which I want to show you guys but 2023 model snake bite retailed at29 on eBay second hand £60 £70 and it looks great I think this is a great little choice I would go for more of the chrome finish however and I also want to show you the 2021 model that you can get well brand new online right now I don’t think there’s anything different in terms of performance but Cobra’s heavily underrated and if you want another 4050 option second hand we’ll go for the 2021 model now speed is crucial to getting that back stop spin on the greens conditions play A Part soft greens that are quite fast into wind also helps but now you’ve learned to trap the ball a tiny bit more get rid of the Loft you do need an element of speed because if I only have the ability to do that movement at let’s say 50 m an hour well I’m only hitting my 52° wedge 70 odd yards and I think it’s very important as I show all of my lessons is the reason that you cup your wrist and bend this left arm and potentially go over the top is so that you can well get more Club head speed however what happens if you haven’t got your shoulders or your back or your arms and all that kind of stuff to basically anchor this club down into to the golf ball what happens if you start working on that lower half what happens if everything’s restricted and you have to generate some power from well the ground it’s a great drill that I love doing in my lessons just to show them how efficient they can be from this kind of position and the whole point is not to take the club up but basically keep it static and drive even though that was a bit thin with the lower half and hopefully it’s a bit of an eye opener for you guys why the guys on tour are able to take their wedge to well back here yet still hit the [Music] ball 130 odd yards however I appreciate without getting fast or using the ground you just want to be able to get more distance the pro a is a great substitute with the urane cover a lot more for you senior golfers that have a tidy hand around the green yeah if anything you don’t want any more spin with your mid irons because again they go up in the air and basically come back down like a lead balloon and if you’re a beginner Vice Drive great price point does the same thing but doesn’t have that urethane cover therefore touches around the green you’re not going to get that spin however both these options at that slower Club head speed 75 M an hour definitely going to help you get a tiny bit more yardage which brings me on to the steel of this video and to be honest something that I’m definitely looking to use in 24 in my own bag and this whole segment is about playability you want a wedge especially as you get better to give you different options the Cleveland very much that one trick pony of just going well forward and not along the ground however as I’ve explained in this video there’s a time and place as long as I’ve got decent low Point control and I’m hitting the ground in the same place it doesn’t really matter what release I have into the ball because if I have full control of that low point I can hit it somewhat low and compress the ball or if I’m in front of a tree which I normally am get it somewhat over and land it short hang on that was a rubbish example oh there she is go on get in the O if you can’t hit the ground with your wedge just watch this next bit if I got all of you to your wrist in this L shape and put your left arm at 6:00 and told you to relax your hands you would be able to hit the ground now there’s a problem with this because ultimately we’re quite far behind the ball hence we turn towards the Target and this is very much the feeling of that later release hands forward down into the ball hands forward down into the ball if you release the club here which a lot of golfers do it’s impossible to hit down on the ground this is a putting stroke we can’t hit down on the ground unless I slide move my hips Lean Forward get this Pivot Point too far ahead and then we kind of get this Slappy one behind the ball it’s why a lot of you that release early want to put the ball back in your stance because then well you can at least get a stri on it the point is as well as the turn and the point of release that is the bit that moves your low Point get used to hitting the ground here cricket bat style then somewhat turn towards the target once you have the speed that low Point control and somewhat versatility then it doesn’t seem quite absurd to spend 60 on a wedge or over 400 for three of them because your game is there and ready to utilize that somewhat fitting and the same is said for golf balls don’t spend a fortune on golf balls unless you’re able to determine the difference and that comes with consistency that comes with playability and that comes with versatility it’s why I love the Pro Plus because I need the spin look at that bad boy Wilson Staff model wedge massive fan of that fluid feel huzzle all the way through the bottom £440 £50 for something that looks as good as this again if you find one of these wedges with decent grooves you’re not losing anything in terms of spin because all these wedges have to be conforming the newer wedges can’t be that much better but you need to have full control of your wedge game to really see that difference and if you’re hitting heavy shots thin shots honestly don’t necessarily worry about the latest and greatest guys if you got any questions on your golf bag or golf game SAS Golf Academy com and I’ll catch you guys later

  1. Since most of the pros and marketing Vokeys dominate, but $230 CAD per wedge is nuts! Love Cleveland, Cobra, and Wilson, high end, lots of options, and they always go on sale.

  2. What a great video! That's brilliant! And it's so true! Even more so when you mention balls (me? Mizuno Tour RBx! Love the feel, plus I hit them straight). I seriously don't get why a certain ball is for "faster swings" as, to me, they go the same distance as "distance" balls but spin more around the green! That's a win/win!!!!

  3. I’ve got 2 nice Nike Vr wedges 52 and 56 degree great condition with a dozen new Nike mojo balls going in FB Market 👌

  4. Great lesson SASGolf…as usual.

Sold couple clubs to a beginner female golfer and highly recommended she watch…you only!

I’m still gaming a set ($140 3-sticks) of Ben Hogan wedges from the late 90’s early 2000’s

    Technique over technology everyday y’all!

    🙏🏻😎🙏🏻

  5. Simon, l really like this video! I'm sure you already knew this, but you gave an iron lesson along with your wedge video! Thank you!
