[Music] oh yes welcome along to the racing postcast brought to you by the Racing Post sponsored by unibet Sam Hart in the hosting chair this week to take you through some excellent action from Newbery and New Market alongside an esteemed panel as always we’ve got James Stevens and gram robway from the racing post and from uni betet we have Mr Ed Nicholson on a weekend where we have the group one alsaab locking Stakes big rock or in spiral who are you going to be with let us know down in the comments Ed I’ll come to you first we had a a good weekend last weekend but this weekend brings us a a group one that there’s going to be some divided opinions I’m going to say divided opinions and I think uh the weather is going to play a big part in in who wins that so we’re recording this on Thursday which makes it tricky I’ve looked at more weather apps than form this week uh to find out what the weather’s going to be but we’ll get that race later on but yeah it’s a cracking race as it always is absolutely it really is the French Raider big rock coming over to take on in spiral in the 335 there at Newbury but we start off with the four races from Newbury and the first of which is the 150 which is the Aston Park Stakes this is a group three contest at the time of recording unibe currently have desert Heroes they’re 15 to8 favorite Middle Earth is 7-2 Salt Bay is four to1 king of Conquest 13-2 so Moon struck 10 to1 16 to1 and bigger the rest than our West country correspondent James Stevens I’m going to come to you first on this one who wins the Aston Park uh nothing from the West country I’m afraid um yeah diff difficult race um had had a good look at a few and and couldn’t really make my mind up but I’ve gone back to Desert hero who I I did want to take on when I first looked at this race because I thought he was quite short but the more I’ve looked at the others I just think he’s the clear standout um ran a really good race on return at Sandown um looked as if mile two is definitely on the short side for him and a mile four probably is going to be his Optimum I think a race of course like neb is going to bring out the best of him that big sort of big sort of long final four fur Longs get into a rhythm that’s that’s going to suit him very well um I just I just think he’s he’s the one who’s got the bit of class in this race and and that M will probably make the difference um you can make a case with some of the others I wouldn’t want to be backing something that’s not had a run recently because I think it is quite a competitive race and he sets a good standard um Salt Bay ran well at the meeting last time he he’d definitely have a chance but I think he’s too short on what he’s achieved so far so I think you got to play it safe with with desert hero here he looks he looks solid absolutely yeah had that prep run that Gordon Richard Stakes at sand down gram rodway who are you keen on the Aston Park Stakes yeah good to see you Sam um I like salt Bay actually I disagree with James I think that um this might be his day you know Salt Bay bit a little bit of salt Bay going pay for the steak on Saturday night his two best runs have come at Newbury last season he was second there on heavy ground behind not so sleepy and then he produced a career best run there on his last start when Al Kareem and haish uh he was right along sides them and he came from right the way at the back of the field that day made up an awful lot of ground which isn’t easy to do when the ground’s on the soft side and you consider that haish and Alem are a lot more tough battle hardened performers than he has and had a lot more runs than him I thought it was an excellent effort and he’s still very very lightly raced isn’t he Salt Bay I think there’s plenty more Improvement to come for him and he’ll come on from the run so I expect they’ll ride him a bit more prominent here as well Sam last season some of his best performances came when he was up the pace I don’t expect him to be so far behind I think he just made a mess of the start last time if they can get a better position in this race I think he’ll go to better than when he was third over the course last time okay Salt Bay well supported for The Wraith Beck they will say it quietly but they’re hitting a bit of form now aren’t they The Wraith Becket team uh Ed Nicholson to finish us off in the 150 at nub are you in agreement with any of the gents uh I’m agree with both of them I think salt Bay’s got a great chance um if the going was to change to soft or or or worse I think he’d have a serious chance um the weather app says it’s raining there at the moment says there’s not much rain tomorrow and then it will rain on Saturday giving 6 millimeters uh 90% chance of rain so um the horse I’ve gone for is a horse that’s W on good he one on soft and he’s one on heavy so I’m in agreement with James I’m gonna go with desert hero um you know what you’re gonna get with desert hero I think he’s top rated in the race he’ll do extra for the sorry he’ll do better for the extra two furlongs from his reappearance obviously third in The Ledger um you know you you think that they’ll expect his horse to improve up the ladder from group threes to group twos to group ones um he’s entered in the coronation cup even um and the Hardwick uh so yeah desert hero would be my selection nice to see Sam har there who won for us on the podcast 25 to One winner um not a few weeks ago that I gave um and actually looking at his rating he’s not that far behind is he he’s he’s 110 so um 16 to one my kind of my heart would be with him because he’s did me a favor not too long ago but um yeah my head says desert hero yeah Ed Nixon had a really good weekend that week weekend especially putting up 25 to1 K and I don’t know whether he can do it again this weekend but yeah two votes for the Royal Runner then in desert hero and one vote for Salt Bay and the 150 at Newbury moving on to the listed race there the 225 is the Caravan Stakes over six furlongs where relief rally topping the market uni about 100 to 30 james’ Delight is 5 to1 pocklington is 6 to1 Mr Sketch is 15-2 Elite status and a day in Deon 8 to one double figures and bigger the rest and this is our money back race is that correct Ed yeah it’s a it’s a diff strange one to do money back but it is quite competitive for a listed race we normally do money back on a on a handicap but yet money back second or third if your horse comes second or third you will get your money back terms and conditions andly um difficult race uh four to one the field I I couldn’t understand the price of Elite status um I thought it’s quite big given what he did last year he rated 102 which puts him well joint top on ratings uh three from six last year won the national stes I mean that was an eye-catching performance and then went on to um finish third at Royal Ascot one in duville um and then contested two group ones at the back end including the middle Park so you know he’s entered for the Comm World Cup of which he’s a big price at the moment 66 but he he he’s got the form as a two-year-old to definitely be involved here um the stable is in good form as we know um and I think we’re going eight to one at time of uh time of recording I just thought that was a big prize there’s a couple of reasons why he wouldn’t back the horses towards the front end of the market including relief rally we spoke about on the podcast a few weeks ago um so that will be my selection I have to give a mention to a day in Devon who the West country correspondent probably be speaking about but uh he’s been a great servant to to the stable this year oliv Oliver s who looks after him has won three times on him um and he won the big listed race at B recently uh is she’s sorry she is a really good May for the for the stable but I think she might be a bit outclassed here Elite status was one right at the top of my list here G Rod we go back and I’ve mentioned it so many times but that um pre morning from last year that van deque won ra Mato in second we had just saw who finished eighth that day come out and win impressively in the Commonwealth cup trial on Royal ascott Charles Day Elite status was was one place ahead of just saw that day that race is working out to be pretty pretty good an8 to1 might be a big price yeah and he was good at this time last year wasn’t he Sam early in the season was when we saw the best of elite status he was wildly impressive I think you were there with me when he won the listed race at sand down um which is coming up next week isn’t it the national Stakes he did however go backwards towards the end of the season I don’t think there’s any doubt about that he was well held wasn’t he um at doville and at New Market um I KL Burke is you know he’s having a good season already isn’t he he’s really flying along so it wouldn’t surprise me if El state has come back to form I want to be taking on relief rally because everyone says that you know she’s really small and and and that two she she’d be a two-year-old and she was turned over as favorite wasn’t she first time up in that um race at newbry last time which threw up the guiney winner I didn’t think she ever looked like winning that race maybe she didn’t stay but I’m not convinced she’s trained on so the one to be with is James’s Delight I think Clive Cox brilliant with sprinters isn’t he and and this one absolutely freshed a decent field at pontif frat on his first start of the season the third was belar who won a hot handicap at Ascot last week the forms worked out really well he’s beaten in the greenham next time but then came out and defied a nine pound higher mark on his last start at New Market I think he’s improving rapidly and he’s going to make up into a group Sprinter in time so James’s Delight for me Sam yeah we know what Clive [ __ ] do with these sprinters James’s Delight um for GR and robway currently around five to one with uni bet to you James Stevens then a day in Devon is that going to get a mention uh like the horse a lot um she is one of very few horses at this time of year which I get to tip in in the southwest which is of listed or group quality it’s it’s usually class fours and fives so having one like that around this night and um I think she she’s very consistent she’s got a good chance and if that the more rain the better for her because that that will just only improve her chances I do fear like Ed suggests that there’s going to be a c a couple in here might just be a bit good um agree about relief rally um I was at newb the day she was beaten in the what I call the Fred darling was the Fred darling um and I just have my doubts that she’s she’s trained on although um six Fong is definitely the right move she could be miles better than these she could improve and she could be back to her best wouldn’t be a surpris same with Elite status I mean he went off silly short at Roy Asar that’s how good he looked at sandal but I can’t be backing him given what happened last season so I’ve ended up looking at pocklington at a at a price and S hasn’t really achieved match he’s won twice and last time out won what looked a pretty ordinary race at Newcastle turned on a turned over an odds on favorite a long odds on favorite in Army EOS who ran okay at newb said the form isn’t great but if you go back to his two-year-old form he was second in a coventry and I think he’s a very very good horse um the front two raced well clear I think Army for ran to a good level that day so I think the form does add up um he’s only had two races he’s stepping up he’s off the old weather for the first time there’s are loads of risk attached but I don’t mind taking a chance that this could be quite a good horse yeah pocklington the only unbeaten runner in the field an unbeaten you never know how good they could turn out to be especially going to the turf so differing opinions in the caravin stakes let’s see if we have differing opinions in the 3:00 at newb which is the London Gold Cup handicaps the Heritage handicap on the card class two event where shant T is the seven to2 favorite for Aiden O’Brien and Ryan Moore Kings Gambit is 9-2 goodward Odyssey is 13-2 fighter command 8 to1 paneros Bry and spirit of aam they’re 10 to1 12 to1 and bigger the rest and we’ve got extra places here we must do Ed nixson we must we do your wishes my command um extra place in this race Heritage handicap and there’s a horse that stands out here to me and that’s Shanti um I was quite interested to look at Aiden O’Brien’s record when he brings over horses to running handicaps in the UK because we all know when he brings over listed group horses and they do well especially at certain times of the year um but he’s um hasn’t brought that many horses over for handicaps um if my records are correct he since 1997 he’s bought 106 handicappers over and nine of one but if you take out Royal Ascot and you take out eore at York he’s only had 24 runners in handicaps in the UK and he’s won four of them uh and he’s one from one at Newbury as far as my records indicate and that was in this very race last year um Shanti looks a horse capable of much better already entered for bigger races I know that Aiden does does enter all his horses for everything um but he’s in the uh he’s in the group ones um Irish Derby and the coral Eclipse interestingly enough but he looks like a mile and a half horse to me the way he runs he’s run four of his five races on heavy going dotted up at lepers down last time on the heavy ground um I just think he looks capable of much better than his uh than his handicap Mark at the moment and and I just was very interested that they’ve come over to the UK for this race at Newbury not a thing they normally do and I think they’ve probably got Royal Ascot in mind the winner of this race last year came third at Royal escar so um which was Aiden O’Brien’s so yeah there’s a lot of positives for this horse I don’t if the Soft ground comes and you know as we said the rain is forecast I can see this going with much much shorter than the current N9 to to that four to one that we’re offering um and I I think this could be a plunge horse if the rain comes but even if the rain doesn’t come I’m hoping that he goes on the the faster ground conditions absolutely yeah Nixon mentioned there that Aiden won the race last year of unbelievable around 9 to2 I think the starting price was then similar prices here James Stevens are you keen on shant T yeah very much so um I I love this race for a start I mean it’s such a a good race for pointing to the Future not just sort of the headline horses that go to Wi group races but you look in behind the different horses go different directions it’s a race which you can usually rely on is going to turn out to be pretty good and you look at the runners it’s full of horses packed with potential shant T was was was the immediate one I looked at because so impressive last time looked like a group horse in a handicap which is exactly what you want for a race like this um and for all his main form wasn’t particularly from O’Brien Colt standard it’s not a complete standout he been beaten a few times and sent off short price on one of those occasions he improved a lot last time and that was a massive step forward and looked very much capable of contesting a a good handicap perhaps even stepping up from that so I’ve looked back through the race and I don’t think any horse in there has really shown anything like the ability he he’s shown on that start um ground I think good to soft would actually be spot on for him um I know he’s one on heavy but I don’t think by any stretch he needs it so I think the ground that it’s possibly good to soft softish perhaps that’s what I think it’ll end up being I think that’ll be spot on and also I think Newbury is going to be perfect for him because he’s quite a big horse nice long stride I think he will win on on Saturday and then I think he probably could go very close at one of the big handicaps at Roy Ascot um the only other one from an ich way perspective because I’m where I’m tipping a favor it’s not the most exciting thing is um brone for Allan king um he’s got some good form he looks he looks like an honest horse he tries hard could definitely see him running a good race and getting into the places but I completely agree with Ed Shany will not go off at 9-2 or something like that they’re going to get stuck into him I think okay two votes for shant T so far and I mention for Bry there Jamie Spencer another one in a handicap potentially for him mentioned from James Stevens it’s two good votes for shant T gr robway is this going to be this week’s hatrick Horse no not not for me Sam I I strongly fancy King’s Gambit um we talk about the this being a good race and and it throwing up good ers as well most of those good hes were trained by Roger Chon weren’t they um time test won it in 2015 he went on a win group two Charon won it in 16 with Imperial Aviator he won it with Hedman in 2019 he was a group two hor and um this Kings Gambit has only had one entry um all season and this is it he had William Buick booked on it on Monday I don’t think there’s any doubt that Harry Chon Roger Chon’s son has has laid King Gambit out for the race um and we know that he runs really good horses in it and the form is there I mean he was second last time in the Hans hen Hans haes Hansen and Clark or whatever they call it over the course um traditionally always a strong race he should have won it as well I mean he was beaten by bracken’s laugh who since has come out and won at chelsford and finished second in the D Stakes so the form’s good but Kings Gambit should have won it Ian he stayed on really strongly he seemed inconvenienced by loose ALS who who was in the there the third was blue lemons who finished a close second in the EA cup the forms Rock Solid and he’s going up two furong in trip he’s prad to improve for a longer distance I think this will definitely definitely win Sam Kings Gambit okay Kings Gambit gr Rob very strong on that says two votes for shant T and one vote for Kings Gambit in the London Gold Cup handicap there at Newbury let us know down the comments as always who you fancy in the big handicap there at new but we now move on to the big one the free 35 at Newbury is the group One alsaab locking stakes and the market currently looks like this with VI but they can’t split them big rock and in spiral two to one at the top of the market Charon 4 to one Pokerface is six to1 Royal Scotsman 14 to1 Flight Plan 25 to1 real world 25 to1 High royal 40 to1 audience and witch hunter are currently around 50 to1 and dear my friend at 66 to1 now there’s only one place I can start here because I’ve got to start with gr Rob way because big rock the last time we had a postcast myself you and Tom Park had a massive argument off air to who’s going to knp this horse up in the QE to we all had a massive Tom Park had the honors um spoiler alert I’m probably going to try and steal it this week but it’s a hell of a race Big Rock versus inspiral we with big rock once again gr Roby I love big rock it was one of my favorite races if not the favorite race of the entire year last year um I happened to be away that day and I was watching it with the wife and about half a mile out maybe even five fongs out I start saying this is one they one catch this this is one and sure enough it was an absolutely ridiculous performance that performance that big rock put in that day in the QE2 he was so fast over the first six furlongs he might well have won the Sprint on the same card I mean I think he would it was incredible I mean it such an exciting f it reminded me of HW Wing in this race you remember Hulk wiing years ago when he just sort of went out in front and went further and further clear and nothing ever got near him and the time Stacks up incredibly well yeah he broke the clock there at Ascot and if he runs to that level they will not see which way he goes however that is a big if here Sam I think because I don’t think this is going to be his number one uh Target by any stretch this season he’s trained by a new trainer called maritzio gueri who ibly told has been around forever but I’ve never heard of him so um I don’t know I don’t know what he’s like at getting A’s ready first time up after what 210 days off that was a bit of a worry for me if he was still with Christopher head I’d be a little bit more confident um I just got on the back of my mind here it’s such a hard race because I think that big rock definitely wins if he runs to his Ascot level but I don’t think he’s going to be in that sort of form first time up with a long campaign to come similar comments you can argue about in spiral couldn’t you you know she looked really good she beat big rock at doville last year and I don’t think big rock was in the big rock that we saw at Ascot but nevertheless she did beat him and she won at um in in in um u in the US of course but she wants fast ground and it’s going to be softer and again I’m not sure she’s going to be fully wound up first time I can’t have chin I don’t think he’s good enough right so I just wonder if Poker Face this might be his day I don’t think that he’s he’s good enough to lace the boots a big rock on his you know if big Rock’s at his best I don’t think we’re gonna see big rock at his best but Poker Face gave weight to Ching first time up ran really well maybe needed the run I can see him going off just behind big rock tracking him and if big rock is short of Fitness I think Poker Face be the one to pick him up so I absolutely love big rocks um I almost like can’t back against him but here I just wonder if if this is the day so I’m going to back Pokerface okay Pokerface a great robway I mean in the lockings just looking at the last 10 years seven of the last 10 winners have gone off 100 to 30 or shorter so it does favor the ones at the top of the market in the class angle potentially uh Ed Nicholson there’s going to be an offer in this race here for uni customers but what do you make of this uni bets Traders can’t actually split the two at the top of the market which way do you think they’ll go I think it’ll depend a lot on the going on the day um I I was looking at the uh the excellent Racing Post section and uh looking at the comments and I noticed that John Goen after Sussex Stakes where inspiral finished last he said and I quote it is very obvious that inspiral doesn’t cope with this kind of ground so if it does come up soft I think the favorite will be big rock I think the market will take that into effect and yeah I I mean my selection was Big Rock um for the I mean I can’t I can’t even begin to offer any more insight than we just had um from Graham which is excellent um so I think big rock would be the selection um I also agree with with graham about poker face he does you know if there is a chinking ia uh big rock or in spirals armor then that’s the one that will take advantage and has already been backed nines into sixes in the early exchanges so a lot of people thinking like Graham but yeah I’m I’m a big rock fan um and I just hope that um that he does it what you what you make of this this bloke maritzio guani are would that put you off I mean I I can’t help but look at him and think you know maritzio guier how many Group One winners has he had I to be honest I’m like you I don’t know too much about him but um I dare say that the uh the owners and and the Those Behind the stable would have thought long and hard before they placed a horse such as him in their care so um that’ll do for me but yeah um I mean the one thing to knowe that last week you weren on the show gr but we talked about a horse um who was like 11 pounds clear um in a in a in a listed race was it Sam I can’t remember but um yeah but it was so far clear that you thought if they did need the Run they would still win and and what interested me and what I learned about that was that it was so fresh that it went to post really quickly and came back as quickly for the first three furong and then then then disappointed so when they when they aren’t fit and they’re going first time out maybe that is a time to take him on um so that’s a good point you make about Big Rock but no I I think he’s he’s he’s well clear on the ratings as well so I’ll give big rocket Char so you don’t want to be going to group one not fit do you so you can’t you know you’re not looking at this as a step on to the queen an where he’s gonna go go next he’s gonna be trying to win his locking just a group one so I’d expect that he would be if not 100% fit 98% fit he’s not from 13 in the last 14 days Maro guer is a train only two of those have been placed um obviously this looking at the the horses that he’s been running this is a different class of Runner along with the fact that he has blue rose sen as well who was a group multiple group one win the last season so they’re different types of horses like I think he said earlier in the week in the racing post that he’s still getting to learn big rock and learn bits about him but big rock he just has so much class James Stevens do you think we’re going to see a similar performance in terms of the fact do you think he’s just going to bounce out and try and say Catch Me If You Can I think that would have to be the way to because it was so effective last time um and and that was by far in a way his best performance so they’re probably going to think about it but maybe not as aggressively I mean when it’s your last R of the Season you’re in a big group one askc or you can sort of throw everything out the window and go for it and maybe that’s not the best thing to do a month before the queen and um yeah I’m gonna basically repeat what the two chaps have said about Big Rock because he’s my selection and and I like the I I know you mentioned about Ed how many sort of pounds I I quite like the percentage analog um with looking at it so for me I can’t have inspiral on the ground so you’re looking at Charon and Pokerface then I reckon a 90% big rock could still be enough maybe just to nose it so that’s the way I look at it so I’m very much happy to say the odds he is um yeah roders I get your point about the new trainer but on the flip side this is somebody who’s been sent all of these good horses and if there’s one one thing I don’t think he would want to do and I certainly wouldn’t if I was in that position is to leave horses under Cooks in a group one because he is going to have so much pressure on this season getting those horses and it would be up to him to get a big start so he may well be teetering towards making sure the horse is ultra fit I read in the the report that Scott did um in the buildup that that the jockey’s been out riding him out so they’ve got some sort of insight as to where he is it’s not completely starting from scratch so I think he’ll be fit fit enough I’m not too worried um about that I I I think they’ll be on the side I mean look we don’t know who this we don’t know much about this trainer and how how good he’ll be but if there’s something about Fitness I think they’ll have done all they can to ensure he’s fit for today rather than the rest of the year um Poker Face I can’t really add much from what from what you guys have said definitely think he’ll reverse the form with Charon um a really good improving horse last year ground will be fine for him and the only sort of nippet I can give you is um trying to follow up the Declaration story today I have spoken to the owner who is getting a flight over so if you’re interested in that sort of angle the owner is coming over from jalta so maybe that’s a positive okay yeah look the panel are fairly keen on on Big Rock but Pokerface seems a a strong kind of each way bet to nothing sort of selection in this race world back to Z Seb un at 9 to1 into six to1 currently I will just quickly mention that prejac Lamar last season where inspiral did beat big rock that was on good to soft ground described as good soft ground in in doville but I will say that was an inspired Frankie theor ride as well so um everything went right for inspire and Frankie did so much to get that horse up so yeah it’s going to be a fascinating contest who knows how much rain we’re going to get if it goes really soft the gosin have already mentioned that the horse may come out in spiral we’ve already been pre-warned about that but if you do want to hear the reports on Big Rock and Marcio guer Scott bur and our France correspondent an excellent piece that you can see on the Racing Post website do go give that a read so there we go that’s newb done and dusted we’ll be covering three races from New Market shortly after this want betting on the horses to be anything but flat with an app that impresses every time out you’re on want to watch live streamer of races in the UK Island and around the globe and get a chance to win even bigger with three uni boosts every day on any horses you want un you’re on welcome back to part two of this week’s racing postcast brought to you by the Racing Post sponsored by uni bet Sam Hart James Stevens gr robway and uni bets Ed Nicholson taking you through the weekend action we take a trip to New Market for free handicaps there on the ITV racing card and the first of which is the 205 which is a handicap over seven furong as a class fre event which leads grassington as the 3 to one favor so logical 4 to1 dashing Darcy 9-2 misinformation is also 9-2 serene saraf is 11-2 love Billy boy 13-2 and the outside the lot is Venture Capital at 25 to one and to you first here James Stevens yeah tough race this one but I think Serene sarf was the one for me at the top of weights I think this hores basically on the cusp of being a group horse and really good sort of really impressive visually when you watch a races back last season um having traveled well through some of her races I think last her last run was a massive disappointment I’m happy to draw line through that um I’ve read that Richard Hannon sort of eyeing a shot at the Sandringham with her um she was at one point even in contention for the guins um I’m sure Ed Ed Ed will know a bit more but for me this is a horse that’s potentially got a lot more to offer um and they have gotten AR the sanding him so she would not necessarily need to win but she’d need to run well here and you’d want to be encouraged so I think she’ll be fit enough to run well um good claimer on taking off three because she’s top of the weights so she’s interesting did have a look a long time for so logical um I don’t think I think a lot of people look at the Newcastle formance and say it wasn’t much but she did win that well but I just wonder whether this class horse will will’ll prove it on the day okay yeah Serene sarraf Alex wensky taking off three pound excellent jockey currently 11s two with un bet Ed nixson to you next who wins the opening race we’re covering from New Market I I thought so logical was the The Logical choice to be honest um Jord and th go trains um I was interested the angle of a of a Newcastle Maiden winner on the all weather from from the goslen camp running next to the New Market handicap I don’t I don’t remember happening too often and from the from the stats that I got and I might have I might have got the wrong information here but it’s that’s only happened eight times and he’s had two winners um so um yeah I thought um I thought it’s a logical because they can go anywhere can’t they if they got a maiden winner at Newcastle and they to go to New Market which you would have thought would be more difficult I would have thought more competitive um I was interested they’ve gone that route um they’ve got Holly do booked I just I it it is a really competitive race is a is a more of a guess up than usual for me um but I I’m G to go for so logical uh has only ever raced over seven furlongs uh in four runs um and I just thought um I thought might be a little bit better than a than a rating of 77 from ausen Camp okay so logical Fred Nick I should have mentioned there James Stevens put up s for Richard Hannon Ed when can we read the Richard Hannon blog our uni Ambassador Richard Hannah’s blog yeah well he’s got Runners tomorrow um he’s got 10 Runners tomorrow uh we’re writing that blog up as we speak and I’ve actually got some uh later on um spoiler I’ve got a tip for for one of his horses on Saturday which I can not a tip not from him but I I we did we did talk to him about this horse previously so uh yeah so 10 on Friday and so that’s that’s been written up and then tomorrow for Saturday we’ll be around about the same sort of time so yeah Friday around about 4:00 for um for the Hannon uh blog for Saturday but his horses are in good form and the fact he’s running 10 on Friday tells you that he’s raring to go so yeah I agree with what James said this horse will be fit where you raring to go for the seasonal debut okay yeah do check out unibet.com for that and also you can have a look at their social feed where you can get access to Richard hannon’s blog gr and Rob you to finish us off in the 205 who do you like I like d dashing Dary uh Sam I thought that this s looked really good on the old weever a couple of times last season he was you know look pacy he was to the four in a couple of races at lingfield kept on very strongly to recall good times not sure what’s happened this season on Turf it’s like he’s seen the green stuff and he’s gone oh i’ have to start slowly every time on this surface because last season on the old weather he he was sharp from the gates and looked a real real Speedy type this season and he keeps making a mess of the start so he instead of being right on the pace he ends up at the back but he still run two really good races despite making a mess of the start on both outings and last time at Chester if he had got a better break he might well have uh have given the winner something to think about because uh he was in an impossible position around there you know what it’s like around Chester when you when you you missed a break and um he kept on quite nicely I just wonder whether this time having seen him missed a break a couple of times if there’s anything that Roger Varan might consider doing at home to try and get him out the Stalls because if he does come out the Stalls he will race prominently I think like he did last year at lingfield and if he is nice and prominent I think you’ll see um I think you’ll see a much improved performance so let’s hope he doesn’t blow to start this time dashing Dary for me Sam okay three different selections in there in the 205 from New Market let’s see if we have differing Selections in the 240 this is a handicap another Seven fur on handicap a class two event Divine Divine Libra is 1003 quino and gorak 13-2 Koi Koi 7 to1 desert cop is 17 to2 rainbow fire nine to one and double figures the rest of the field let’s start with quinot graham robway seven wins from nine last season started the season of a mark of 59 now rated 102 it’s going to be a much more difficult task to put what was it six on the bounce last season yeah a big fan of this old Sam um I saw him win uh the first of well not the first of his sequence but I think it was one of his early ones cuz I know he won at Brighton before but when he won at New Market on the Thursday night um of this meeting and then he won on the Saturday two days uh later the the fre year- old handicapped that’s on Sunday this year so he was twice a winner at this very meeting last season quinol um and he’s just he’s just a great obiously just Powers off in front he’s King go and he stays well and you know he loves this track and he gets some well with Luke Ken as well but he is up to yet another career higher Mark isn’t he of 102 and it did seem to find him out at Ascot on his last start at uh in October however I don’t put anything pass this Al I kept saying last season that he’s going up and up in the weights and you know handicapper will catch up with him and he didn’t really so he could he could easily go World quinnel um I’m keeping an eye on St Lawrence I don’t think he’ll win uh this week weekend but he’s getting he’s getting nicely handicapped for the woking him isn’t he I mean last year he won the woking him off a mark of a 100 he was 109 um uh at the end of last season 108 107 105 he gets beat here 103 maybe 102 could be getting close to that woken a mark from which he won last season Archie Watson’s got great record in Sprints at Royal Ascot so I’ve definitely got St Lawrence on my radar for repeating that wokingham anyway the one that I think might win this race is gor um who um showed loads of pace last time out over [ __ ] distance it was a really good time that day um and um gor was responsible for setting the Gallup you know he probably went a little bit too fast but as usual with uh races that are running in in good times and and strongly run races the forms worked out well the runnerup pery lad won nicely at um Chester last week was really heavily backed and blasted off in front and never looked like getting caught I think if gorak can get a a slightly easier time on the lead here he could be dangerous I mean he’s he’s another one who steadily come down the weights he was 105 at this time last year he’s now 95 it’s a matter of time before he takes advantage he’ll be blasting off in front and I hope he stays there Gore rck for me Sam Okay g yeah big seven Fong handicap this weekend Charlie fellows took out the Victoria Cup last weekend with the wizard of ey another seven F on handicap so yeah it’s going to be gorak for GR robway 132 I’m so glad that you mentioned St Lawrence grod because I’ve got three horses on my list rcot and St Lawrence is one that I’m on heavy watch for for the wum so it looks like we’re going to be following that one into middle of June so wait for that uh Ed Nicholson what have we got here any offers yeah we’ve got an extra place you would expect for such a competitive handicap and um I’m gonna take a chance with a 10-year-old um summer Gand um Graham Graham’s already mentioned that there’s going to be a fast pace there will be we all know that summeran loves fastpac big handicaps the one worry I’ve got is his seven furlongs and I mean there must be a reason why he’s not raced over seven furong that often I make it twice in a 95 race career that he run over seven furong if you if you didn’t know the horse and you saw the way it ran you’d have run it over seven furong by now wouldn’t you uh the way he get he he leaves it late but um I thought the angle here was I thought you might get a bit of a price U because of that last form figure he stand as being n but he was pulled up after the first furong horse in front of him Hispanic fell unfortunately and he just came back in his own time so that was a pulled up and forget that run altoe um and he’s got a good record at new at New Market both on the July course and the rly course Ian he’s run badly there as well but he has won once the Aban an actually um and he group three and he’s also uh come third three times on the rolling Mark so I just thought when I looked at the prices before doing the doing the research he was a bit bigger than the 11 to1 10 to one and I actually put my notes it it was a crazy price but he is only 11 to one so he probably is a bit he is probably about the right side of price but um I can just see him running on the extra Place hopefully he last a seventh furong and the old 10-year-old who I do love he won the unet Stewarts cup when we sponsored that race um so I’ve got a soft spot for him and probably is my head my heart over my head again but yeah I think summer gam will go well at a fair price especially with extra places okay yeah extra places there of uni bet you can go to uni. UK to find out all the terms and conditions there but summeran yeah there there’s not going to be a week where we probably don’t tip him he seems to run every big Saturday so yeah and I tell you also what I should have said is that he goes in any ground at the moment it’s good to firm at New Market and he’s won on good to firm he won the eant on good to firm so that was 21 2021 but um he goes on all sorts of ground so at least you’ve got that in new back in in your pocket yeah exactly he did run on Wednesday obviously at the Dante meeting he was involved in that that fatal injury to Hispanic Thoughts with connections there um but yeah suan taking his chance again on Saturday James Stevens to you for the final selection in the 240 yeah not a race of particularly strong opinion of um I agree I think the most likely winner is gorak um here ran really well as as G Rod said last time we also sort raced on his own a bit which can’t always be easy at New Market so that was one of the angles I had for him and the yra flying so definitely a chance one I’m looking forward to for the future and I’m I’m going to put in as a a big each way role of a dice here is make me a king or make me king sorry who hasn’t run in Britain before and was last seen finishing fourth in a group two at Mayan um he’s pretty consistent if you go through some of his French form with Andre faab and ground wise wouldn’t be a problem if it’s fast wouldn’t be a problem if it was slower so that he’s open for that and and I think seven fongs might just about be his Optimum distance um he looked like he was going to win the um Qatar Derby which not quite sure on how strong the form is but nevertheless he was gonna he was traveling really well in it and then just tied that’s over 10 furlongs this is over seven um he’s got ability this horse I wonder what the sort of plan is with him and how ready he’ll be for a race worth 15 grand but he’s clearly got ability and I think as an each way shot he wouldn’t be the worst bet this weekend okay there we go so there’s two votes for gorak we’ve got one vote for summeran but two horses definitely keep an eye on and make me king and St Lawrence do keep an eye on both of those at Big prices let’s move on to the final race we cover on this week’s show the 350 at New Market this is another class free handicap this time we’re over a mile where hopeful tops the market for the boarding stable to3 s Castle City 5 to1 Alto 6 to1 great Blas it’s 6 to1 he’s a gentleman is 17-2 repertoire and zimus 10 to one and 14 to one bar these uh I’ll start with you here James Stevens back to you finish us off with a winner yeah I want to take on the favorite here because I felt everything went right for him last time and he still wasn’t able to win um some of the others I’ve got my doubts about so I’ve ended up on zosimus who I mean he is not for a long long time his record is one win from 34 so he’s not the most reliable but he has kept on running well um his best forms at New Market he he runs really well at the track he was third um at the guins meeting last time really good run then he went to ha do last weekend didn’t start particularly well um and still finished fourth running on strongly I think this is about what he wants a mar at New Market um it’s coming out in quick succession but he has run well after a little break after after a few day break in the past so yeah zimus I think is a is a really good eway bet here yeah I quite like zimus in here as well remember when he was trained by Don CR Bryan um finished at a huge price in the Cambridge and got 100 to one for Don CR bryen here in the Cambridge so definitely has the ability just hasn’t quite shown it yet for the armar stable but could becoming very well handicapped Gran robway for you who’s going to win the three15 he’s a gentleman is the one that I like Sam um one ran a mighty race at Chester 10 days ago you draw right on the wide outside and you know they had to do that thing where they blast him out the stores and then try and cut across and he didn’t get across and he ended up two or three wide the whole way round and he come free wide off the home Bend and right down the center of the track he looked like he was going to win and then he was cut down um late by um I think William Buick was on the winner um and I thought that that it was an incredible effort really considering much ground he covered that day um he’s going up to a mile here that might bring a bit out a bit more Improvement he seems to be going forward nicely he handles fast ground as well which by the looks of it and I hope uh the weather forecast is Right Sam it looks like it will be fast ground at New Market it’s good to firm at the moment hardly any rain forecast and um I I’ll definitely be up there maybe one or two days this weekend so I’m hoping for some sun yeah I hope so I hope for some good weather I mean some ways to get some soft ground for Big Rock hope there’s a bit of rain but we’ll wait and see uh you’re going to finish us off this week on the ITV races Ed nixson you’re going to give us a winner to finish I hope so um I really fancy sein Castle City Richard Hannon he was the horse I alluded to earlier on um Richard likes this horse thinks he’s still well treated and um he takes his racing well is what he said to us about this horse previously and in fact what is interesting and I haven’t got any data on this but he he was sold um at G’s hit sales donc casted last year but it’s been kept in the stable I imagine if if you keep a horse in the stable but you change owners it’s probably a good sign I would have thought um so sein Castle City hasn’t gone to any old trainer either any owner either he gone to a big owner um so I think he’s probably got a race a good race in him um rated 80 at the moment I was at bath last time that this horse ran and won um the race that he won was the first race that was described as soft before that it was faster ground so it may or may I just add that to your uh to your calculations but he has W on firm as well he won his six furong race at um Salsbury on firm when he traveled really well um I think that he’s well handicapped I think that he’s improving obviously those two statements being the same um and Alex VY takes three pounds off which means he’s running off the same handicap Mark as he did last time and he he stayed on last time he didn’t Lu he was going to catch the leader the leader drifted and he might not have won if the leader didn’t didn’t drift but they finished well clear of the third in the style of of a good horse um I I really fancy Stein Stein castle city um I think he needs a fast pace but he’ll get it and uh I think he’s a good price okay one vote for son City one vote for he a gensan and one vote for zimus but yeah seast City remember that Richard Hannon blog you can check that out on uni BET’s socials and that’ll be up tomorrow for his Saturday’s Runners so do look out for that so that’s it for the ITV action we’ll be back shortly after this members Club offer with our other selections and our Best Bets for the weekend get 50% off your first three subscribe today and get 50% off your first three months membership so here we are the final part of the racing postcast a bit where we bring you any other selections and our Best Bets but we start off with our other selections for this weekend uh James Stevens I’ll come to you what else have we got away from the ITV action so um where to go well I’m going to start at newbry with a flat action I’m going to new on Saturday looking forward to that always one of a good days racing and in particular the 10 furong the mile two Phillies trial Stakes is always a very very good race to watch um just some of a winners here in front of me sea of class nashwa asard warmart it’s always a really really good race and I think Saturday’s race is going to be particularly good um you’ve got three horses in there siola edara I think that’s how you pronounce it and Diamond rain who have all won and looked impressive on their first start and Diamond rain is definitely the one for me here um she ran at Ascot um at the start of a month and I was sort of half watching it at the time remember thinking this this horse is really really impressive I watched it back and was even more impressed because everything went wrong and she still won um started slowly she then had the two horses in front of her basically bump um so she got squeezed out she was on the rail last turning in so had to come all the way out widest only really got a full run of it with about a furong and a half to go and still managed to win um they went a bit of a crawl and it was turned into a Sprint and this horse definitely wants further than a mile so everything about that run suggests you can mark it up I looked at her a bit deeper and realized she’s out of dancing rain so she’s Brad to be pretty good as well um everything about that race was was pretty good and The more I’ve watched it back to look at the times and things like that it all points to her being a very very good Prospect um she’s got entries in a few good races not the Oaks but the Irish Oaks um I thought she was in the riversale but she’s not everything about this horse I think she’s she could be very very good I remember a few years ago I backed SE class in this race and followed her career which ended in the agonizing defeat in the ark um which I’m still gutted about but hopefully um Diamond rain will win on Saturday and I can follow her to Greater and better things um it wouldn’t be without some jumps action as well um vat a dazla at utox um at bangal sorry um really good run last time second in what I think wasn’t too bad a race hopefully he goes one better I think that’s the 803 okay there we go two races there to look out for but that that race that 515 at Nu is Sensational is that you could see a right star in there but Diamond rain looks the one for James Stevens Graham robway anything else for you this weekend away from the action on ITV yeah I mean I I’ll be half tempted to go to New Market on Sunday as I’ve already said um and there’s a strange sort of one of those evening early evening meetings 3:45 to 6:45 the 545 is a valuable six furong Sprint handicap that Quinn won last year and it’s got quite a role of Honor recently like Harry fre won it before going on the win group races jumby won it before becoming a group horse I think there might be a group horse in it again this year seried ranks um for raef Becket Ross Ryan’s already booked a ride it all of his horses have been coming on significantly for their first run this year haven’t they uh Rafe beckets apparently they a bit of a hold up um earlier in the year and it just taken them a bit more time to to to hit their form but um I thought Ser rank shaped quite well in what is uh often a hot race over five furlongs at sand down um on that Friday before the um the big race on the Saturday the 365 Gold Cup he was fifth he wasn’t quite quick enough over five furlongs that day but his best form was over six that was probably just a pipe opener he kept on nicely towards the finish and I think that seried ranks um can develop into a into a group H possibly after winning hopefully the 545 at New Market on Sunday okay 545 at New Market Seri rankone to look out for on Sunday from Graham robway and Ed Nicholson it’s been a while since you’ve had any other selections but I believe you’ve got one this week yeah I’m I’m going to give you a couple actually um the first one is just uh an unraced bumper horse from Nikki Henderson’s um I uh I haven’t spoken to Nikki about it but um it’s I know that they they they think a lot of it and it hasn’t run well it hasn’t obviously ever run it’s a 5-year-old uh Maiden bumper horse have been wanting to run it for a year and a half but um the owners have been very patient and it’s a half brother to Angels breath who we all know he’s a very good horse or certainly was going to be extremely good um until injury prevented him from reaching the heights that he no doubt would have reached um but they’ve got a half brother in C Mystic The Potters they’ve got lots of Horses The Potters they are big breeders owners operation um and they love their racing and they’ve been very patient with Cam Mystic um a maiden five-year-old running in a a maiden bumper only race at Stratford on Sunday on good going which is key so I think they’d be disappointed if he does it doesn’t go close um I’ve got no idea what price it will be it’s just that I know they quite like the horse um so calistic was I’m going to be looking out for anyway obviously if it’s one to three it’s not a bet but um just have a look and see what the market is and then also we spoke about Richard Hannon um I just thought I’ll give you a little bit of a a clip of a Richard H horse that he mentions tomorrow in the blog so the blog will be posted a little bit later on but in the 435 he’s this is what he says of one of his 10 Runners to tomorrow uh Houston with double n at the end um he’s already got a mark of 92 but I think he’s more than capable of winning a maiden and the step up and trip is a massive plus I’ll be disappointed if he’s not capable of going extremely close so that’s Houston owned by a certain Johnny D who doesn’t have too many flat horses he had one at B yesterday actually he was there at B to see his horse come third but he’s having a few flat horses this year so Houston who goes up to 10 furlongs for the first time I think that’s maybe worth a little look in the 435 at newb tomorrow I’ll be there at new brw so I’ll certainly be having a look at that horse myself okay there you go a couple from bed nixson Houston won the 435 there at Nu and then one on Sunday at Stratford in the 435 is CA Mystic is another one for Nicki Hensen and Nico de boinville there we go so other selections all done time for the Best Bets this week and then let’s see who the panel really fancy going into the ITV card I’ll have to kick things off I’ve given the spoiler earlier on in the show but I’m going to be napping up big rock at 2 to one with uni in the Locking Stakes like we said look he’s a monster of a horse I think he has all the ability the ground could come in his favor and spiral we we don’t know whether she’s going to run but this horse I still think has more to show moving forward with his career and look it’s Macio granier’s first time with this horse but I do think he has all the ability in the world so two to one for the Locking I’ll have big rock gr Rob are your best bet this weekend yeah I’m with uh Salt Bay in the first race at new Sam Salt Bay in the first race from nubri on Saturday uh that’s the Aston part Stakes they’re the 150 James Stevens who’s the best bet for you uh firstly Sam well played for not only having the nap but getting some matching colors to go with it so so full credit for the dedication there the blue um shant t for me shant Z that’s in the London Gold Cup handicap yeah I need to get myself a set of the silks like a team kit um and Ed Nicholson your nap for the ITV card please yeah really fancy sign Castle City in the 315 uh at New Market I think he’s still well treated he’s actually run third on the roing mile off a mark of 86 can run today or Saturday off a mark of 80 having one off 77 last time at bath I think he’s got plenty more in the tank so sign Castle City for me okay sign Castle City in the 315 at New Market Fred Nixon you can see all the Naps on the screen now they will be boosted at the time of the upload of this video and podcasts do head to uni. to check those out right I’ve got a couple of minutes left as always always like to see what the panel are up to this weekend James Stevens I’ll start with you what are the plans for you this weekend yeah um back back for the Locking um I actually went to school and was brought up in y so it’s thing I meeting I always used to go to Growing Up So always like to attend it seen some very good over the years I was there for frankal and all those sort of good ones so no back there and enjoying the day the races I might be joining you at Newbury on Saturday um there to support big rock we’ll wait and see Ed Nicholson we didn’t really hear what you up to last weekend we had a few Gremlins in the system but this week we don’t what are you up to this weekend probably good um I am going to Newbury tomorrow where we sponsor the unibet handicap on the ITV card that’s Friday um and then I’m going to relax over the weekend the big week last last week at jalter and then at Chester on the Friday um so yeah it’s going to be a relaxing weekend but tomorrow racing at Newbury same as James it was one of the first courses I went to I went when I was on my eth birthday I went to Newbury I think this it has in September so it wasn’t this meeting but yeah lovely course well would you believe it I’ve absolutely adored race I’ve been to many tracks all over the world but the one track I’ve never been to is newb so it’ be a a debut appearance for me if I do go on Saturday and GR way you said you are heading to New Market this week and there any other plans for yourself well where do you want to start this weekend um I mean it’s an amazing weekend isn’t it what we got we’ve got the the uspga golf we’ got a Fury fighting usk uh we’ve got um great racing we’ve got Premier League uh final day on Sunday haven’t we so I mean if you love sports it’s just one of those weekends and this is my plan for the weekend it’s just as completely immerse myself in all of it golf and boxing and football and maybe a little trip into New Market in between I’m not that far from there so look forward to it I’m not sure when I’m going to be there but I can’t wait I’m hoping it’s going to be sunny nice picnic what a summer day it could be either Saturday or Sunday or even Friday it is a hell of a weekend isn’t it loads of sport I’m actually going to be at Wembley on Sunday for the League 2 playoff final I don’t actually support either teams or crew or Crawley but my cousin has led crew as a captain for the whole season by fracturing his foot towards the back end of the season so unfortunately he won’t be playing but I’m going to be there supporting crew and he has been told that he will be lifting the trophy if they do do it and make their way into League one so an exciting family occasion I’ll be looking forward to Wembley on Sunday and hopefully a big rock performance on Saturday so we’ll wait and see so there we go that’s it for this week’s racing postcast big thanks to the panel as always do check out un Cod UK for all of those offers that we’ve talked about during the show we’ll be back next weekend I know we’ve got some we got the [ __ ] hat and the height of fashion stakes from Goodwood next weekend I believe looking forward to that I’ll be off to Goodwood next Saturday but as always do comment share and subscribe and do gamble responsibly we’ll see you soon bye-bye [Music] o

  2. I think Poker Face will win the Lockinge, ran well on seasonal return and the softer ground will suit. Looked like he just got tired last time so better can be expected.

  3. Chantily, talk about minipulating stats to suit the selection.Good news beat in all races by trainers that have O'bien in the name.Tells me weight manipulation for this race, umm could be. Bad news being entered in multiple G1s means nothing hes minimum 15 to 20lb short on form. Horse that beat him 4L in April rated 77 some over 3 stone inferiour to say City of Troy.
Like i said, it could be a certainty if held back. The question is how much in previous races as that been the case. Based on what is in front of your eyes, he has no chance.
