I had the pleasure of meeting Gordon about a year before he died, we met at a golf course in Spain just before tee off time he was such a pleasant person to talk with as we reminisced about the World Cup final, one of the true greats
Liverpool fan here. My first league game at Anfield was to see Liverpool play Stoke City on 21st October 1972. 24 hours later, Gordon Banks had his car crash, and never played a professional game again.
Burnley fan here, Gordon Banks was both a gentleman and in my book the world’s best goal keeper. That save against Pele is to the this day the finest save I have ever seen. Got bless Gordon
Shanks tried to sign Gordon in the early 1960s.
