there’s so many examples I can think of 14 on Sunday at the Players Championship front right hole location ball kind of spins off the front and he just makes these somewhat easy medium difficulty shots look benign in the most high pressure situations even the up and down at Augusta on 18 granted he had a big lead hit the shot out of the Fairway bunker short right and he chipped it up there to this he he it’s it’s it’s not fair to be that good of a ball Striker and to have that kind of a short game I guess the only thing the golf gods are doing is making him not the best putter in the world he has a knack for H holding shots in in big spots to sort of Kickstart around remember the year that he won the his first Masters 2022 early in that final round third hole he chipped it in too was it when he won the Players when he won the Players early had a chip in there and we know uh this past year at the Players it wasn’t a chip it was a hold wedge at number four for Eagle that jump started his round 64 to come from behind and get the win yeah he just has a knack for finding the hole and I think as we see him progress with this Mallet putter we saw it today we didn’t see it yesterday but we saw it today with those five sixf Footers for par to keep the round going to keep himself in position because you know he’s going to be in that top of that leaderboard come Sunday uh 79th after the opening 72 and now he’s tied for 14th young player Davis Riley Hayden Buckley you’re just scrapping for your professional life at this point at not Nei guys had a particularly good season but when sheffer’s on a board and he starts to put himself in position you’re young player you take a look and you oh Scotty sheffler’s Scotty sheffer’s right there I think these a lot of these young players aren’t playing in a lot of the events that Scotty’s been playing in these Signature Events so being in this position now at the top of the leaderboard for guys like Davis and Hayden yes when they see him start climbing that leaderboard tomorrow as they’re teeing off it’s going to it’s going to have an effect and they’re playing under a ton of pressure Davis is 151st FedEx Cup Hayden’s 185th they don’t have that many opportunities left so this is an important weekend for them you know at the start of this round uh you know coming off the 72 yesterday and he was overp par Saturday at Valhalla we think with with good reason he had played 41 straight rounds to start 2024 at par or better overpar so two of his last three rounds and you you thought would be understandable if he just was out of gas and missed the cut he’d made was this will be 37 consecutive Cuts made that’s the longest active streak is it not on tour and he hadn’t had missed the cut since I think it was FedEx in Memphis a couple of years ago in the playoffs but again it would would have been understandable he just not had it and gone home to Dallas but that’s not how this guy is wired in this tournament means a lot to him like you said before he’s a Dallas guy he’s a Texas guy he if he didn’t want to be here and want to contend he wouldn’t be playing the colonial second and third the last couple years so he is in this thing to Win It Scotty Sheffer doesn’t Tee It Up without that thought in his mind
