J that’s welcome to the Mark Jackson show I’m Mark Jackson Jr also known as blue and it’s a special edition today but before we get to anything we got a little snippet from a special guest that’s going to appear soon so let’s go ahead and play that 35 years ago I walked into my first training camp with the New York Knicks and I met Patrick guy and from that day forward he’s had a huge impact to my life I called him the mortgage when he was a player because he paid all my bills for so very long but what I truly value is his friendship there is no one and I mean no one as loyal a friend as Patrick Yan is to those he’s close to all right man I know y’all excited for that anyways y’all read the title y’all here I’m not going I’m not going to hold y’all any longer matter fact I’m not even going I’m not even going to announce let’s get the wide shot and Pops you announced Let’s Go PG this resume is a little different so I had to write it down wow this dude brought the paper out 1984 national champ 11 time NBA Allstar 86 rookie of the year two times basically because he won his and mine I help top 75 player all time what the top 50 player of all time two-time Big East Player of the Year National Player of the Year and 85 four-time defensive play of the year in the Big East 1981 High School National player of the year two-time gold medalist former coach at the University of Georgetown and uh New York Knicks all-time leading scorer rebounder block shots steals minutes played games played playoff points you name it he is the greatest New York Nick of all time I said it once again in case you didn’t hear it for the folks in the back the greatest New York Nick basketball player in history my guy my brother Patrick y give it up y’all come on I appreciate you I appreciate you know I’ve always said that you had to GI for gab so you know you you I you you the you the real you know Ali had bini bini Brown you you go my bini brown tell them how I got you going playing hey look so you know first of all we played against each other Georgetown St John’s huge rival we battled um I remember he got a dunk we played them at at George down he got a dunk at the end of the game you know you know how he get he’s all hype so we come back to New York to play them we got them that that game the Knicks drafted him uh it was a great day for us a great day for me um like we you know he alluded to in in the the intro that I I I think I was one a huge part of him winning that that that uh rookie the Year award yeah I would I tell everybody this that we could be on what we’re on the floor together I always knew we we developed such a great Rapport um he knew that I was going to have his back defensively uh when he needed help and I knew that he was going to get me the ball when when I needed the ball yeah uh so and then like I said he’s the he’s the juice King he is the hype man he he would get you so hyped every time before the game that everybody was ready to play but I think the the Rapport that we had the relationship that we still continue to have to this day is the reason why um you know we be we remained friends uh he just he’s a great man he was a great teammate uh I hated him when we played against him uh you know we we had battles going back to the Indiana days uh him posting up Charlie Ward him posting up Chris Charles and baiting me baiting me me waiting for me to come down to help and dishing it off um but we had some great some great times together some great uh games against each other and he’s just a great friend the crazy thing is uh he talked about defensively I wasn’t known as a great defender so the only way I can stay on the court is when my guy goes by me big fella block shots I CL up the middle so one time guy go by me I’m like big fella coach you get ready to take me out man you got to be there so he he basically allowed me his presence defensively and obviously his greatness on the offensive end of the floor allowed me to play uh extended minutes and the coach to trust me more because he had my back and it hasn’t been that way just on the court but absolutely off the court and I said brother for life and you see what Jeff and guny talked about loyalty as loyal as a dude as as I’ve ever been around and you you know you got friends or Associates that’ll sit there while somebody else saying something bad about you this guy’s nipping it in the butt immediately but uh talk about Jeff Van Gundy and his impact and your relationship oh shoot Jeff Jeff is we’ve been knowing Jeff for a lot of years when he first came to New York as an assistant coach uh with with uh with Stu Jackson um you know I remember the first practice that we had him coming from I think he came from uh rkus rkus I think came from ruus um and he was like oh my God you guys are are so big and so fast I’m like it’s like night and day we we going to win the championship you know of course we we we we we didn’t have as good a year as we would have loved to but just the relationship that not only myself um and you know your dad have developed with him over the years uh me playing for him for all those years me also working for him uh the work ethic that I showed as a a player he saw that um when I when I became a a coach I was working with the Wizards so when he had his not his other opportunity to coach he brought me with him to Houston um and then from then just all the other people that I was able to work with if it wasn’t for the work ethic it wasn’t for the friendship that we’ve all developed and then you know seeing him and and and and jack on TV um that those two that the way that they the knowledge that they brought and told brought to the audience that everyone and the one the one liners that that you know Jack would put in there you know hands down man you know down they got me Sav to my my player you know but I I think that both of those guys have been uh instrumental parts of my my career not only my my playing career but uh you know my coaching career as well can you speak a little bit about uh what you took from coach Van Gundy as far as you you’ve had success as a head coach uh what are some of the things that he impacted you or or imparted in you you know I I looked at everyone I try to borrow from everybody that I not only played for but also work worked with uh Jeff Van guny Pat Riley Rick uh Rick patino John Thompson um you know Steve Clifford uh Stan Van Gundy Tom Tibido all those guys I’ve had an opportunity to play for worked with uh and I I try to Bor from everything every from every one of them and I think the main thing that I that I learned from Jeff even in his brother stand is preparation you know be prepared you know do the work uh ahead of time to get not only yourself prepared for the game but also uh your team and it taught me come playoff time in particular or more specifically how we were prepared if if if a team called a set everybody in uniform knew it because we had rehearsed it we went over it whether it be film or on the court just a special situation where we didn’t go through the motions and it it it sucks the life from the opposing team when you know their stuff better than they do it does that’s true that is true so I want to ask I got to go back cuz we talked about the Rookie of the Year trophies I want to know some Rookie of the Year stories from both of you and I also want to know what it was like for you to walk into a position to have so much help for your Rookie of the Year man I I felt like one of the Jacksons not near like I was with Michael I walked in everywhere was and back in my first year we took regular planes so we walked through the airports and just to see the attention that he garnered because of his greatness and he was the King of New York so you walking through airports and the funniest thing is people all sorts of carrying three and four bags and a baby in their hand sprting two two Gates Four Gates 10 Gates now just to get an autograph early on like you know he people run tank so they Sweating Bullets drop their bag put the kid to the to the mom m you can I get all like no no thank you like big you got a sign a man out of breath the so just just just being around that presence I didn’t take it for granted but I don’t care who you are even though you say you don’t take it for granted you truly do because it’s human nature and when I got traded other places and went somewhere else it made me appreciate and value his presence not just on the court but off the court playing with him just like uh I I alluded to a few minutes ago that um was great the the Rapport the relationship it’s like I’m talking from his rookie year we’ve developed that that type of Rapport and is there’s not too many teammates that you develop that type of rapport with you know it’s like I said I I don’t care where I was was on the floor if I was open he was going to get me the ball I watch you know sometimes now when they they show games or old games of back when we played together I’m like how the heck did he get that Bo that ball to me I did not even know that he saw me but not only that but on the floor but off the floor um you know got to meet your grandparents and you know that that was developed a great relationship with them you guys weren’t born yet so um but the relationship that we had on the floor and off the flooor uh continue the day and you know he was right back then I wasn’t signing no autographs uh you know I was like I tried to be polite with it you know nol I to I tried to be polite he did I tried to be polight I’m like you know I I wasn’t going to be like from I see some people when they do it they they’re rude with it and I tried not to be rude I tried to treat people the way that I wanted them to treat me or my my my family so there’s some of them I would do but a lot of them I I wouldn’t and you know and back then you know we’re in it’s not like we’re not like we’re chartering like the team’s charting now there wasn’t no Charters back then we in we in the the regular air part of the airport we’re flying on the regular plane with everybody I remember I I I fall asleep on the plane I fall asleep and I wake up and I see cameras in my face I’m like what the heck is going on I can’t even take a nap but it was still great it was still a great time um the league flourished we flourished um made our first uh playoff appearance uh and you know with under under Rick um and it was it was some great times I do have to say that coach patino Rick he he had Mark believing that he was the the best player and and I as as as as a player as a and even as a coach I think that the type of relationship that those two that those two had that’s the type of relationship that you need to have with your players because he made Mark believe that he could he could jump out of this building right here and and and and and and survive um and I think that’s one of the also one of the reasons why he had such a great uh not only a rookie year but also a great career but that belief that that coach showed in him and he he already had the belief in himself anyway he always had that that that swag he had that chip on his shoulder uh starting from back at St John’s when he talk a lot of trash he still does and and and I know I know and I think that all of those things has have helped him to be the per not only the player that he’s that he’s he became but also the person that he is but you talked about my mom and dad tell them how quiet my mom was oh your grandma man oh I loved her um when she’s with you she’s with you so when he’s with the Nicks she used to the ref not getting those call you hear that Three Blind Mice And you hear it I’m like you know there’s what 20,000 people in in the garden you you hear her you hear her uh your granddad he he just sat there he won’t say too much after the game he might say his peace but your grandma woo W she but then now when he’s on the other team you hear it then too you hear it then too but she was great though she loved me I loved her I showed her a lot of love um her and my my I have a sister that lived in New York so them two used to always talk in the in in the green room but no she was she was very vocal very vocal yeah you act like I wasn’t there I was running around you was young though you was young you was young but you know so you you probably was you was even listening to that he wasn’t listening to that right he he had a nickname for you too he had a nickname for me he had a nickname for why you holding this info I don’t even what was the nickname I don’t even remember Chuck yeah little chuck chuck yeah yeah that’s big Chuck you’re little why why y’all got that big old head he he said we had Charlie Brown you saw us leaving the arena you like that’s them no not leaving the arena walking around playing around the green room on the floor everything it’s a lot of it’s intelligence it’s intelligence it yes it is it yes it is but but talk about 13-year-old Patrick Ying coming to Cambridge and the dream wasn’t to be an NBA player yeah you know it’s I every time I go back to to Cambridge I go to my M my mom and my dad’s grave and I tell them thank you I was blessed you know coming from Jamaica where I came from I I never thought that I would have the opportunities that I was that I was given um growing up I mean we were poor uh but my mother used to always say you have food on your taable you have clothes on your back so you you’re good um and then moving to America and you know fall in love I I moved here I was I was 12 I was 51 I was so I was already tall but you know I kept getting taller and taller every every year and coming here and fall in love with that with that ball over there and from where I started to where I where it took me from you know believing you know starting out not being not knowing anything about the game being tall being clumsy had not uh fully grown into my body yet having not listening to naysayers or people who told me I would never going to be um and that’s why when I go out and I talk to kids I always tell them if you have a belief if you have a dream if there is something that you want to achieve don’t let anybody talk you out of it you have to do everything in your in your core to try to achieve it and if IID listened to the people who would tell me I wasn’t going to be I wouldn’t have been sh um but I think that the belief and the love that I I felt for the game of basketball have given me uh and my family a great great opportunity a great life I’ve been places that I never thought I would uh be able to go I’ve seen things that I’ve never thought I’d be able to see um unfortunately my mom passed away uh when I was a junior at Georgetown so she was not able to to reap the fruit uh the fruits of her labor but I tried to make sure my dad and everybody else uh was able to see and feel everything that that they were able to touch one of the most fascinating things during my research is you didn’t even know that your mom came to see you in high school plus no she snuck in the gym just snuck in the gym and you didn’t know that till later on till later on it’s funny uh um I met my sister gave me a picture and I still I have it in my house right now it’s my mom and my dad at one of my high school games and I’m like I never knew I never knew that they came you know they didn’t know anything about basketball they didn’t you know they weren’t really into sports um and I never knew uh that they came to the game and that that surprised the the heck out of me because they never said anything to me about it and when I saw that picture I was like I was shocked I was shocked but I was also happy that they were able to see um you know to see what I what I was what I was doing and what I was trying to become you went from a cricket player soccer player to 76 and one after your freshman year in high school as a basketball player yeah I was I I was going to say something about that you only talked about my one championship in high school I won three yeah let them know the mess up thing is this is this is this is Patrick Y at his finest 76 and one and what happened in the one loss we got robbed got Robb instead of saying we lost they play we got robbed hey look all right so as a high school player as a college player not not so much as in in the NBA at least you you try not to think that is an NBA so we go to wolu cross we go to w cross marinating in his we go to we leave massachusett we go to Connecticut to play wber cross they cheated the hell out of us they cheated the hell out of us I’m talking about man we got raped over the cold but they forgot they had to come back to Boston the next year had to come back to oh we did we we put a whooping on them yeah but we got robed how did they cheat how did they cheat you know how it works you you bring your own refs they have their own refs their refs are rooting and cheering for their Hometown team so they got every call you know Mr Jackson oh my 76 and one that’s getting it done man yeah we did you know I was able to play with some some talented kids um uh the only one uh other than myself that went division one was Carl Hobbs um but we still we still we still had some uh talented guys and we played together um they got me the rock back then I wasn’t a big scorer though but they still got me the rock we um but you know we had some great coaches uh I was fortunate enough to move when I moved here that the the people that took me under their wings um taught me about basketball taught me about the the Celtics history taught me about you know Bill Russell and his dominance and the things that he that he did and I try to patent my game after him so you know Steve Jenkins was the my first coach um Tim Mahoney coached me in high school Mike Jarvis uh took over my Jun uh sophomore Junior and Senior year and then of course going and playing for the great John Thompson at Georgetown so I was blessed to to be able to be around some great people uh not only coaches but just great people um they didn’t want anything they all they wanted to do was was to teach and to to build and shape uh and to mold people one of those people was a health teacher I believe that in yeah Steve Jenkins yeah he’s my first you know he and I um are still great friends today um is is is you know we were like his kids back then there was about 12 of us you know we’re all from the islands you know they didn’t have kids at that time we used to you know go to his house his wife wife used to cook for us um you know we would go camping and all of those things and now that they they they have two kids of their own now um and you know we’re all like family um his son worked on my staff uh when I was at Georgetown he was a video guy for me at Georgetown he he also worked in the NBA uh in with Charlotte and Orlando um but you know basketball is about the you know it’s about life it’s about the people that you you meet and the people that you can touch and people that you can help Elevate and I think that I was fortunate enough to be around those people and I I want to be like that you know for the the Next Generation so going back to what y’all y’all were talking about earlier why you laughing man you know something’s coming yes all right I’ve seen y’all chemistry on the court alley defense pick and roll everything I want to know off the court what was going on how did y’all build this chemistry how did y’all become so close just the type of person that he is you know I I was The Quiet One okay all right I was The Quiet One okay so but you know we we we we hung out with each other we would go out we would eat we would talk trash he would talk trash we would talk about Georg toown St John’s just have fun you know I tell you a a story so you know we he gets traded to the Clippers he gets straight to the Clippers so you know we come we’re playing I think we might have been preseason and we come out here to play and you know he comes to pick me up at the hotel we’re going to go out to get something to eat we’re going to go to uh Janet Jackson was having a party we’re going to go to the Janet Jackson party so we go out to eat first of all you know uh he doesn’t know his way around out here he’s a new he’s a New York guy you know playing out here in in in La he doesn’t know he doesn’t know his way around so we’re going out to go eat he’s stopping and asking folks directions you know back you know they we didn’t have the phones back then you know put in your your navigation system and all that you get where you’re going so he asking folks and I’m like Jack you know we are in La this is like you know uh carjacking capital of of of of the of of America yeah you sto and asking people like that we going to get we’re going to get jacked so I’m all nervous now he keep stopping asking so we go out we eat and now it’s time to go to the concert um I’m like you know what man just take me back to the hotel take me back to the hotel I don’t think I don’t think I want to go to uh have you ask about 50 more people you was comforable no no but I just think the the type of person that he is yeah um the he is down to earth he is um you know I I joke with him about the you know being a juice King but he’s he’s true he’s real and I think that you know real real real real see real you know I’m real he’s real and I think that that’s how we clicked you know he I I saw the type of person that he was not only just as a player but also as a as a man and I think that that’s the reason why and then you know of course you know uh just just talking trash about each other’s uh College days and the things that we did against each other I think all of those things you know uh was you know was the ice breaker uh and you know your family your family was great um I think that all of those things um you know got us to be a lot closer but hold on this guy here think about I’m I’m from New York City we come to La at that time once a year playing for the Knicks so now I’m playing for the Clippers and I’m taking out my guy this guy here goes after we eat we’re headed to the concert and we getting ready to have a good time go hang out treats of La which everybody looks forward to I look towards he’s going he’s basically nodding off the heck is going on so I’m like he looks at me one time he opens his eyes he’s like oh let’s let’s go back to the whole time I’m like so I me being the consumate you know sacrificial dude and giv dude I go I throw him a lob thinking he sees in my eyes that I’m ready to turn up and La I said if you don’t want to go we don’t have to go this all right I sitting there I’ve never been so mad at somebody in my life man hey I did not hear about I I kept hearing about that night for the longest until he met met your mom and and until he met your mom I heard about that man I could have Janet Jack I could have he was looking for J Jackson he like that that could she could have been my wife until he until he met your mom he used to bring that up every day what’s going on you was on the Hun for AR s you you just want any singer I’m glad I made it here Patrick he he he told it right I I threw him the on that one oh you supposed to tell that story I wouldn’t be here without Patrick you that’s crazy oh my control he show it right he got got all these beautiful beautiful kids and Grand and grandsons Grands oh man but I will tell you loyal tremendous human being uh unselfish giving loving caring brilliant uh it’s it’s it’s it’s a pleasure to have played alongside of them and uh be in battles with them I tell you this and I told you this before if you told me I can pick any coach in the history of the world that I didn’t play for to play for for a day or a year what have you I can pick any coach any sport and I I’ve had the honor to play for them without question and it ain’t even close my choice would be coach John Thompson because I watched I watched how he conducted y’all I watched how he loved y’all I watched how he protected y’all and it was inspiring talk about playing for him and what he meant to you uh coach dos he meant the world to me um you know he was a person that I could you know if you listen to any interview that I’ve that I’ve given about him I’ve always said the same thing he was a person that I could look up to I could emulate I could be like he was um he looked like me uh he carried himself with class and dignity um he spoke eloquent eloquently um he just he was hard um but he wants you to succeed he was going to try to put you in in position to succeed not only just as a basketball player but in in life he would bring people into our practices to talk to us about people look like us who have made it um not not through the the sports Avenue but they may have started off playing sports but then they you know uh got into you know got to be VPS at Koch or VPS at McDonald’s uh James Brown came and spoke to us he would you know he started up as a basketball player player at Harvard and now he’s in one of the biggest broadcas like your dad uh in in the TV uh industry but just bringing people like that talk trying to help you to see that you know there’s there’s life after basketball you know one of the things he one one of the things he always talk about was that someday the basketball is going to stop bouncing you know he has a deflated basketball in his in his in his office and we still have you know we still had it at Georgetown you know that you know you got to set yourself up for the next for the next opportunity you know we were fortunate enough to play a lot of years um your dad was able to Parlay that into the broadcasting business I played a lot of years and then I was able to uh parlay that into being a coach something that I never thought I would I would ever do but I fell in love with it just like he knew that he he had F fell in love with with being on this side of the camera from from back then but I think that coach Thompson um try to give all of us that opportunity show give all of us that knowledge uh and to lead us uh you know to try to to to try to see that there’s also another side of life talk about the coaching bug you still want to coach you still have interest oh yeah I still want to coach um you and and I just like I said before I coaching is something that I never wanted to do when I was playing you would ask people would ask me what what do you want to do next you want to coach on it I’m like no coaching no the only coach I wanted to coaching I wanted to do was to coach my kids but I was given an opportunity uh you know through Michael Jordan Michael Jordan was the was running the Wizards at the time and when I decided to retire he gave me that opportunity to come to Washington and try coaching said if I if I didn’t like the coaching they’ll move me into the front office try the front office well I I tried uh coaching on the Doug Collins Larry Drew Johnny Bach Brian James on that stat and fell in love with it um and now all these years later what 20 years later I’m still I still have the bug I still have the love um you know it’s funny because I remember when I my last year playing was with the Orlando Magic and Johnny Davis he was he would he kept bugging me and at that time I I didn’t know what the hell he was talking he like man why why put all that knowledge on the Shelf why put all that knowledge on the shelf and I didn’t want to hear it at that time cuz you know I was playing for doc I wasn’t getting that many minutes that’s the first time in my life that I was not a starter or was getting the the big minutes um so I I you know I was trying to navigate through all that and you know once that season was over and then was given the opportunity for Michael and just being able to you know see those kids all all the things that you’re trying to teach them and you know them picking it up when you’re not looking I think that’s how I I fell in love with coaching I remember watching your games and they’d go into the huddle in the Wyatt and you can tell the passion that you were speaking with impacting those lives right you know to me coaching is that just like being a parent you know just like you know growing little Jack AKA blue over there and you know and the rest of the kids you know when us as parents we try to sometimes our kids would take advice from other people before they take it from us so to me coaching is is just like that so you’re out there trying to teach them what what they need to do and a lot of times it’s like they’re not listening but once but what the joy is like when when they don’t see that you’re watching and everything that you are trying to teach them and that you see them do it I think that’s the joy that I I get from it and then also you know the competitive part of it you know I’m very competitive um you know we all competitive players and you know that’s I’m not out there physically playing but I got to come I have to come up with the game plan that’s going to help them to to to win so that’s that’s something that I love about it all right man I wouldn’t be right if we didn’t take time and talk about the New York Knicks man I saw you at game five I want to know what’s it like for a legend to come back into that building and see just just watch them um first of all it was great unfortunately we didn’t win that game um but the the fans showed me uh remarkable amount of Love uh they respected everything that not only I brought to the table but you know the people who came before me brought the table and that you know your dad is part of it even though he he went on to other places and and kicked our bus a couple of times um but no it was great being being at the Garden it was great uh that the fans uh showed the appreciation to to me and and the rest of the guys that was that was there Unfortunately they didn’t win that game but they were able to get it last night what’s the biggest thing that you see with this Knicks team currently you know I love what they do I love what Tom th has done with that team uh they they have a toughness they have a belief um you know Brunson is having a remarkable uh year I know year career it’s funny you know you know uh he’s just like you used to be around running around the locker room that was him back back when he was when he was young he hoop a little better uh yeah a little a lot better [Applause] I hit myself I don’t need you to Dr me just just just seeing the things that that he has been doing um it’s it’s remarkable you know it’s it’s especially like his dad his dad was a journeyman you know um a lot differently than than your dad uh and just to see the things that I I tell his dad all the time when I talk to him I said you’ve done an outstanding job job of of preparing him for this opportunity and I love everything that I see from him but you also got to give you know um his teammates uh uh credit you have to give the coaching staff they’re they’re due also I think you know in management management has done an outstanding job of um getting that cast together they they you know I think that the big difference is his his toughness and and their toughness and the things that Tom the situations that Tom has put them into to be able to be successful it’s been great but I got to stop right there because just recently in the news our friend and former teammate Charles Oakley and I’m not asking you to comment on it I’ll handle this I’ll handle this we love oak Oaks a warrior tremendous teammate tremendous guy uh but Oak made the statement that Jaylen Brunson is the greatest New York Nick basketball player since Clyde Frasier time out are you kidding me I I again I love you but but what are we doing let me introduce you again to the greatest not just since Clyde Frasier the greatest New York Nick basketball player of all time that includes everybody you put everybody that ever played in the blue and orange and you put them on the draft board the number one pick is Patrick Yuan so that’s nothing against Jaylen Brunson and what he’s been able to accomplish and the incredible year that he’s put together and what he’s going to do moving forward but it is beyond question no question question that this guy is the best ever do it in blue and orange well I I really appreciate that but you know I’m not going get in I I love oak oak has done we we’ve had some great gears together I always called him my hit man because anything physical anything dirty he was going he was going to take care of um Jaylen is is a great player and I’m happy for his success I’m happy for the Su the success of the New York Knicks I’m happy for the success that that that you know Tom is is having with that team um but I’m you know I I try not to get involved in all that yeah I don’t want you to get invol who who’s better who’s this is it myself is it uh Clyde is it uh Willis it’s you it’s you and I watch those guys and they’re great and I love them growing up and they were Heroes of mine but it’s you no but I I appreciate that Absol I appreciate that and you call oia hit man how about we was on the plane once right and we were playing throwing grapes oh yeah everybody throwing grapes at Sydney Green he’s sitting in front of us so now uh Sydney turns around and says hit me with one more grap I’m coming back there knocking somebody out that was me Rod Strickland Pete Meyers Charles Oakley uh Gerald Wilkins so we say at the count of three we going to throw another grape so everybody got a grape in their hand one two three hits him in the head with about nine graes Sydney Green has the opportunity to come back there and go after me at 64 Rod Strickland at 64 Gerald Wilkins at 66 anybody else being from New York he decides to go after the biggest baddest dude never got to Charles Oak before he got to him a right hand we aditt we on the plane on the team plane on the team plane oh no that’s crazy that’s crazy so back then the the media used to travel on the plane with us remember that the media used to travel on the plane with us so you know of course we had that big brawl so in the back page of the paper the next day that’s all they talked about so Pat R the media can no no longer be on on the plane with us because of those because of these guys yeah or Rick Laino was the coach oh oh well Rick couldn’t be on couldn’t be on the could not be on the plane with us anymore that’s how Oak was moving man oh yeah oh look show hey hey hey oak oak oak was uh he was a bad man when it comes to uh throwing those throwing those hands we’re um we we’re you know Xavier McD’s play in Seattle yeah he played in Seattle and then end up playing with us for a year so they got into it in the garden one night and um oak oak busted him up bloody busting it was it was oh it was ugly and X was like Patrick and Y get you too you me I’m trying to break it up but um um that’s the type of uh teammate Oak was you know he was physical he had your back um you know I enjoyed you know my time with him in New York uh it’s unfortunate the things that that has happened after but you know all of that stuff I wish him the best and I I try to stay away from all that the funny thing is when when we threw the grapes next the next day coach patino said he’s going to bring everybody in and he’s going to find out who threw the grapes and then there’s going to be issues now I’m his guy so all these guys thinking oh Jack’s going to rck so I get in in the morning I’m the first one he wants to see he got me in the office he’s like I’m a rookie like he’s like uh who threw the grapes I need to know I’m like coach it’s too much pressure it’s hot in the streets man I can’t help you I cannot help you I came out the meeting all eyes on me in the lock you snitch but great times though yeah it was you know and and I I love playing for Rick I love playing for Rick it’s funny because you know Rick was one of the first to start they would that the bomb squad MH the bomb squad so they had the bomb squad so Jack yeah the bomb squad you know me I’m a post up player I’m a post up guy you know so I would get the rebound I’d kick it out and I run down I try to post up and I’m looking I’m like the ballord in I’m like what the heck I’m like can I I I I I get the rebound I kick it up I run back down the ball’s going I’m like I’m like can I touch the ball at least once or twice those dudes up there jacking that bad boy up like the bomb squad the bomb squ so I think our team was one of the the first to start this you know like the way basketball is now is is a more of a three-point shooting uh game more open space those guys and Rick with his um knowledge you know started started all that and and your dad even though he was a great passer he love to shoot too now but think about it we had we were a bomb squad and we had one shooter was the only shooter and he didn’t start he didn’t start rebounding Outlet to non Shooters we just jacking up three J Jay new Ro hot rod your dad all those guys they were they were putting it up yeah but I’m watching you at the Garden at the Nick game and I see John STS acting a fool on the Bas just whing out like but but the funny every time I see him I’m reminded when John mlau became the head coach and John mlau came in and he wanted to throw Patrick entry passes on the block from the perimeter in a bowling style pass so you basically throw it basically on the ground and roll it to him right so I’m like that’s not how I’ve been with the dude all I know the dude throw his hand up that’s the Target right but John star was coming off the bench so he’s trying to impress he trying to impress John coming the game and bowling like he feel we like throw the let it roll out of b i I’m like John I said John throw it to my target hand throw it to the Target hand you see the target hand up throw it he’s like big fella big fella come on Co I’m on trying to get PL time trying to get PL time he gets down and he rolls in Co coach Lo he coach say you got to get low and you got to roll it in there so I’m telling him I said John throw it to my target hand so he rolls it in there I just roll and watch it go out of bound he like two or three times I watch it go I said throw it to my target he’s like big funny you going to get me taken out throw it to the Target you know it’s funny um you know John they fired Stu Jackson they hired uh John McLoud and and John McLoud was a was a great coach in his own right I I think the the situation that that he was putting in albian uh put him in with our team wasn’t good for him or or us um I remember there was a time they tried to ambrush your dad uh they tried to Ambush your dad after a practice and we’re sitting there watching it and your dad is like oh yeah there’s no none of that going on here none of that going on here and I don’t even think he knows this but right after we we left that practice that day I called my agent and I’m like if they’re going to treat him like that tell them I want out I wanton out uh I I said what they did was wrong and I’m sticking up I’m with him so you know it’s funny cuz we went to Miami after that practice and I got back in about 2: or 3: in the morning and my you know back you know there W no wasn’t any cell phones back then so the the the the the room phone is blinking blinking and by the time I pick it up to check the message he calls me again you know was coach coach MCL like beow come to my come to my room you’re like uh what can’t we do what can we do to make you happy like first of all you got to stop treating you know my man the way you treat them uh I think that was wrong um but you know it went we it lasted the year and they decided to move on and and get Rick no get uh I think who came at pat pat get Pat get Pat Riley and you know it was it was different uh a lot different um you know Pat rally was uh was a great is a is a great uh basketball mind I I I enjoyed playing for him I was shocked when he left um you know we had a lot of battles against your dad and and the Pacers I think both of us both teams were mirror images of each other um you know your dad he he was he was always ready for those games he wanted to make sure that we knew that we made a mistake when we we traded him uh talking trash you know and talking trash while he’s playing like you know he got the ball and we had like I said before we had Charlie Ward on him or whoever we had on him yeah and he had the size advantage against any of our guards and he knew he knew that I you know I’m I’m I’m like you know I’m there ready to help I’m ready to help I’m trying to stunt and he did baiting baiting baiting if I don’t come he’ll score yeah if I come he’ll dish it off to my man rolling down you know so he did yeah come on big fell Come on B what you going to do um but you know we had some great some great battles um you know with him and Reggie and and the Davis boys and Rick smithz um you know unfortunately you know a few of them didn’t go the way that I we would liked um it’s funny I’m I’m this is now what I don’t more years ago when I remember when I missed the l oh how could I forget I miss so I you know I missed I missed the finger roll game seven I think it was and it’s funny because the previous year you know I dunked it in to to take us to the finals so I missed the game the finger roll game seven now all Fast Forward what 20 30 years later I’m in the airport um some guy comes up to me he’s like like man Patrick man I I really love you man I love you but how you missed that Li I said my man that’s like 30 years ago man it’s 30 years ago you you killed this parlay or something I’m like I said you going to just bring me back to all that that bad feeling the memory that I had that day that night cuz after I swear to God I thought that layup was in it just in boop boop boop and just came back out I was like oh my God just brought back all that bad memory that’s probably Envision me coming out of nowhere and blocking it no but we had a we had a when we played together we’d be on different sides at time scrimmaging whatever he tried to come double teardrop floating he swinging it trying to block us I’m like dude you never block my shot he’s like I’mma block it I’mma block it so I said if you block my shot I’mma retire at that moment right so now now I’m traded to the Clippers we come back to to New York right I blow by the guard out of nowhere I throw Aid this dude has never played with such force and intention in this particular play Swatch it out of blown like retire retire retire chop retire and as you see never did right did but we used to go to um uh Hillside Avenue you know you get the beef patties and cocoa bread and pineapple drinks and just like the cola champagne and all that yeah man all the Jamaican food you look like you you ready I’m ready for more right now baby shoot hey look I’m I’m I’m still a Jamaican I’m even though I was raised here I’m still Jamaican I love my Jamaican food your favorite is curry goat I love my curry goat my my Ox stale my curry shrimp esav I’m getting hungry you don’t eat you don’t eat he doesn’t eat none of this stuff Beatty with the don’t let him front that’s all he eats everything else he’s not even trying it back then he used to now no no I wasn’t eating that you got me mixed up with hold up man hold up you mean you you trying to what’s up you trying to talk about my people’s food man exactly what are you trying to do what you trying to do man my my incredible sister-in-law is Jamaican so I understand it so she used to cook it you would tell you that’s like saying I got a black friend what do you what does that mean what that was pretty good what does that mean that was pretty good right there come on man I can hear I can hear your mom now that three blind mice come on man yeah come on my bad I just it is what it is but at least he at least he ate the beef patty that’s true that’s true at least little C bread but back to the John McLoud story when I when they basically was wrong they were setting me up to try to get out of character and and then they wind up suspending me in the headlines controll the media so it was like I was the bad guy which I wasn’t I’m not making excuse I’m glad he told the story before I told it but Jeff was an assistant coach on that team and Jeff told me about the meeting that they had in my absence while I was suspended and guys spoke up on my behalf and Patrick held it down we had a backup center named Eddie Lee wils who all he wanted to do was score so everybody’s talk about yo y’all did Jack wrong was wrong what y’all did ay wils raising he like I just need some more Chate and that was his guy he said he forget about that I just need some more time and some more touches man and that was his guy too that’s funny he like Jack playing good this season I wor about myself but to show you how the NBA works and how it’s a different ball game Bill cartright uh was our backup center when Patrick when I got there he was backup center and then we traded him to the Chicago Bulls with the scar on my eye as elbow of Bill cartright just physical he beat you up when you play against him all of those things so I I signed with the Knicks after I’m drafted the first three days I never told him this the first three days of Camp I’m like Bill car is better than pay I’m like I’m watching both of these dudes Bill C is better than Pat I didn’t know how the pros work he was going through the motion so he didn’t get hurt I’m like Bill caride is nice man hey we we bill was hurt my first year he was hurt he had the foot surgery he came back the next year so we’re practicing and you know Jack he B elbow I’m getting busted lip elbowing the head I’m looking at him CU I’m getting ready to fight him I’m like this man trying to hurt me then I realized that he was that’s just just how we played you know he had he’s always flailing and stuff so you know I let it go I’m like Rick Rick Rick Rick they used to always ask me why you know why you know you just shooting too many jumps I’m like sh I’m not messing with Bill I like to play in the games yeah but you know great teammate great guy um and it’s funny cuz Michael even tells a story that um when he was with Chicago uh they you know everybody used to run floppy back then so you know us when the guards are supposed to tell you open so you you you know you open so they can come through I guess Michael never said open and Bill stuck his arm knocked him out knocked him out and Michael said from that day on he told Philly he was never when when Bill’s on the full I’m coming off I’m prac I’m coming off but that’s just bill how bill was and I remember we we’re playing Houston and you know we’re playing against you know Keem and Ralph and um Bill did I don’t even what move he did but he elbowed AEM in the face AEM almost tore his knee up on the same plane they had to take him out on on a stretcher I was like man dang I’m glad that was not me but I’m glad I I’m glad I I’m glad to B out right now that was that was a good old days good old days I got a question this Young Generation thinks a certain way who is your gold basketball here we go you know it’s funny that everybody asked that question and to me I think Michael Jordan’s the is the best in my era um that the way that not the the the way that he played everything that he brought to the table not to take anything away from LeBron or Kobe um LeBron is great but Michael was a killer from day one he was an assassin from day one um I thought that LeBron had to learn how to be an assassin he was great now like if if you ask me who would I want to play with I’m going say LeBron because you want to score yeah I I want to score LeBron is LeBron is is a lot like magic he’s a he’s a facilitator he he knows how to get people the ball and you know he became a a scorer as and as as he got you know as he got older um but he’s great but uh I’m going to say uh you know M I mean uh Michael but you can’t take anything away from the rest of guys you can’t think you know you got a you got Kareem you have Wilt you have Bill Russell all these guys Dr J all these guys were great in their era um I think it’s rough when you say when you just pick one one person and say that that’s this is the greatest of all time now Michael has done some great things and unfortunately because I had to you know go against that guy starting from from from college uh to the NBA uh and he’s done an outstanding job of just just the things that he was able to do um you know you got to take your hat off to him I know you probably said what you going to say LeBron I say LeBron but I’m not but you made some good points and the Knicks is playing well it’s Nick’s day and you so you know what I’m not going to go back and forth to you and and I listen I listen so earlier in the interview you said that Michael Jordan gave you opportunity in Washington so you know you got to say you got to say Mike so you know you know I’m with you Mike Mike hey look they’re both great yeah they are they are but I’m um you know for not because he gave me an opportunity but for what I was able to see what I was able to go against um you know play against on on a lot of different nights um I’m I’mma take my hat off to him what do you see when you watch today’s game you like watch guys like Joker and embiid and how they’re impacting the game I make the case that they’re two of the top seven centers in the history of this game do you think that they you know what’s your thoughts on that oh they I I love both of them they’re they’re different but but but the same The Joker Is He has like a a old man type game he’s not very athletic but he gets the job done every time I look at the they play I look I always look at his statue look at what he’s done I’m like he is he may take he might be 12 for 15 15 assists 15 rebounds all the things that he’s that he’s he does the toughness that he that he brings to the game um you know embiid is is is very similar he’s more athletic you know he’s more on the perimeter more than than than the Joker is but they’re both they’re both dominant um I think that the way that basketball is now it started back in what ’94 they NBA changed the rules they wanted to to be a more open game a more free flowing game uh I think the defense is is the offense is way um advanced than the defense it’s hard to stop people and the things that we used to be able to do back then you can’t do it anymore the hand checking and being physical all that stuff uh I think it’s definitely changed but I love those two guys those two those two when you talk about centers um you know I think those two guys right there would be able to play in in our era now when we played in college and we cooked y’all we was number one and number two in the country but that Patrick y didn’t have the offensive Arsenal or it wasn’t on display no as a Patrick y that I that I got the privilege of playing with put the 1990 Patrick Ying against Joker and embiid you know no double you’re right you know um you know when I when I was in college I wasn’t known as a scorer I was you know more of a Defender I block shot catching lobs it’s funny um you know uh dick Maguire a longtime Nick Scout we were at a lunch and and he he said to me Patrick you know he spoke with a stutter he’s like you know Patrick when did you learn how to score cuz all I thought you could do was was dunk and and catch catch lobs but you know and everything if you don’t improve I always I could always score but you know emphasis my you know was on trying to help my team to win what by any means necessary now 1990 Patrick Yan uh or 1992 I think I what average 20 29 Points a game that Year MVP should have been MVP um I mean no double team is a free flowing they they can’t stop me I I think my numbers would be just as good as theirs you know I was uh I was just as athletic as embiid he was more uh he’s bigger than I was but uh I could jump I could shoot uh just didn’t shoot threes um according to Jeff Van Gundy I didn’t want to pass um but you know I think it would have been some some great battles going against those guys because you know they’re they they are very good they are very talented and they can do a lot of they can do a lot of things I take my hat off the both of them and I love watching them play I just remembered something that I never shared before I forgot the year I’m mean I’m in my mercedesbenz I’m driving to practice it’s a rainy day it’s slippery and we used to stop at a breakfast place and at purchase right right before the practice facility and uh I’m driving and I jam on the brakes because the car in front of me brake light show and I can’t stop so my car is sliding sliding and I’m trying to avoid crashing into this car but I can’t because it’s just the side of the road and then the traffic coming this way so I have no choice I run into the black Mercedes in front of me it’s Pat like how you going my like license registration Insurance what are you talking about dude the car the car was F I mean thank God we both were okay but unbelievable you was speeding no it was you know we you talk about as young people the the dumb stuff that we do yeah the dumb stuff that we do I’m not saying he was speeding that day it was not but the things that we used to do the racing after practice we used to race we racing uh back to the city yeah thank thank the Lord that you know we you know we didn’t end up unfortunately like Bobby Phils and and and stuff but the the things that you do as as young people a lot of times you know turn out to cause you harm but for most of us it were we were fortunate enough to overcome those things yeah um but yeah he going to hit my car and then he didn’t want to pay for it dud license registration insurance I’m like dude what are we doing man you you I had no choice he didn’t want come on man I got it I got it I got it I got it but he talking about the dumb things he he use the DraStic stuff it could have been as simple as we made it to the concert that night it have been a different story this the dumb things we we wish for yeah yeah I leave it at that wait I got to ask before before we go I got to ask cuz this it’s been on my mind cuz we had a conversation you talk about y’all Nicks team how great it was if you put your Knicks team in today’s playoffs are y’all better than the Nuggets which Nicks team are you talking about your best new New York Knicks team whichever one y’all want to choose are y’all winning the championship this year Pi my 92 Nick te 92 Nick te the Nuggets they they’re good The Joker is good but I think we got them jewelry jewelry all right all right give me my ring give me my ring give me my ring all right all right all right r all right all right I just had I just had to ask no question you know you got you got to take your head off to what uh Mike Malone has done with that team and uh the management has done with that team and then you know the Joker I mean he’s he is he is great he is great the things that he’s been able to do um no Center other than Kareem I think in the I’m not sure after after kareim is one backto back MVP I mean this was this if he wins it this year would it be his third third his third I mean I think that’s that’s remarkable yeah and you talk about Mike Malone remember him as a young assistant and also his dad the late gr Brendan Malone yeah I worked with Brendan for a lot of years and he coached me he was on he was under staff my rookie year uh with yuie then he went back to college and uh I wor I had the opportunity to work with him for six years in Orlando um it’s funny because when I got the job coaching at Georgetown when Lose or Draw after every game I would get a book he would text me a book uh you know what you did this good you that that good what you should have done make sure that you’re talking to the team pumping them up I’m reading to Brandon and stuff I’m like Brandon you have not changed you have not changed but no he was he was a great man a great coach um you know I enjoyed working with a great friend great friend how many kids and how many grandkids uh who you me you five kids four grandkids unfortunately you know my son uh Patrick Jr he moved to austral and he took my grandkids with him I’m I’m I’m really I’m really upset at that I’m really I said he can stay over there you know him and his wife can stay but the grandkids they need to hurt and come back how does it make us feel old when my daughter heaven and your daughter Randy you know working NBA games and around each other sending pictures to us oh uh you know that was that was uh that was a great day you know seeing that they you know the picture and seeing that they connected and you know we all you and I have come a long way that that and to see our kids you know running around in the green rooms and and now that you know they’re adults and seeing them uh you know develop that great that friendship I think is it’s great you know we we as parents have have done our job we got some great kids amen you know you have the opportunity working with now y’all both of y’all are throwing lobs to each other y’all are throwing lobs to each other I think you know when I watch your show you know I think that you and he watch he watches watch watch I watch I think you guys have done an outstanding job with with with doing what you’re doing thank I think the network was wrong when they let you and Jeff go I’m not going to argue with you that’s my that’s not only them but also uh when Golden State let you out you already know my my op my feelings on that but I think that you guys have done an outstanding job with this platform I think that you know uh from watching it I once I came out here I’m like look are you going to have you ain’t called me to come on yet you have not called me to come on the show yet so I’m like hey I’m in town what’s up are you am I you going to bring me on or what I refused to be that dude in the airport chasing him down and he says no but no I think y’all done an out understanding job with this show and I love I love to watch it keep keep doing it keep doing your thing keep throwing each other live if I if I wasn’t this old my knees wasn’t hurting I you know I tried to go catch a couple of so so I got to ask y’all this just in Darvin ham fire today so what is your feelings regarding this this new breaking news I mean it broke this morning but let’s talk about it a little bit to me um I it’s it’s unfortunate I love darham as a as a player and as a coach as a person I think he’s done an outstanding job he shows that he can he can coach when you look at his his team and you know what they had what he has to work with I don’t see how he they expect him to to uh how successful they expect him to be and sometimes it’s not the coach sometimes it’s not the coach sometimes they got to look at themselves um but I think it’s it’s unfortunate unfortunate that they let him go uh hopefully he’ll rebound and get and get back on his feet he show that he’s a great coach yeah yeah I Echo everything he just said he’s a former teammate of mine great guy great coach had success with the Lakers what I don’t like and I’m sure big fellow can attest to is when rumors about Replacements before he’s even fired uh that’s that’s dirty p and that’s wrong he’s a Class Act who did outstanding job and like he said I’m sure he’ll land on his feet all right what what kind of Coach do the Lakers need I mean that’s that’s going to be that’s hard to say you know you have uh uh agent superstar in Lebron uh ad is is is a talented player um you know you don’t know if he’s going to be playing or not playing um based on his his history they have some guys that are that are young but talented so you know it’s going to have to be a person who are is going to have to be able to handle LeBron you know LeBron has to you know give his is okay to and also is is LeBron going to be back you know those are all the all the things that you keep hearing so I think that you know whoever they whoever they they hire um they they’re going to have to be able to to navigate that situation with with that great superstar in Lebron your guy mhm yeah yeah you got any any comments I think he answered it perfectly I think that the the answer is going to be in what type of Team they’re going to have moving forward will it be a rebuilding situation or will they have LeBron James Anthony Davis and a upgraded Supporting Cast and that’s a different type coach you need so that’ll answer itself and it’s it’s it’s a you know it’s a prime job no question about that before we get to our sponsors I can’t let you leave without asking your pick for the Nicks Pacer series it’s pretty obvious I think I know you going to pick who you got all right all right all right it’s right now your jacket that’s what I’m saying it’s not that obvious cuz some somebody picked the Pacers I know that’s what oh oh no no no no I picked I picked the Pacers but not because I I play for both teams I just believe that the Pacers are going to win the series because they they they’re healthy and whole and playing with great Rhythm and I you got to pick one of them it has nothing to do with me and uniform they are a very good team uh Rick Rick has done Rick car have have he has them playing uh a great B brand of basketball they’re uptempo uh they got you know they got guys that can score they can catch lobs they can shoot but um you know I’m a Nick yeah I’m a Nick so you know um I’m a Nick what is I know but I’m just saying you know let him get it off let get it off you know you know I think I love what Tom has has done with that team I love the you know Brunson and the way that he plays I had to I had to go against that dude for for two years while he was at villain over I kept I kept kicking him in the head talking about if I knew I was going to coach and I knew you was going to be this good of a player i’ have been recruiting you from all those times you wouldn’t leave my Lo been in the green you been in the Green Room come here come here I was already doing that but you know um he uh I I just love the type of play that he is and the toughness that he brings to to um to the team and you know OG Obi once they got him um I don’t even know if I said his name right um he is I love I love how he I love his toughness I love his uh his ability to defend multiple position and once that once they traded for him I think he changed the uh he changed the whole team yeah Rick K actually scored his career high we we picked him up Midway through my first year remember and he signed with the Knicks and 25 points that night we were like we got our we didn’t know was one night Lu Angel anybody anybody can do it for one night the funniest thing is I know Rick Carlile has heard this story a 100 times cuz you said it like every time we bring up Rick car like I got him his career high we used to go out this is funny we used to go out and Rick car wouldn’t go out and we come back in middle of the night he’d be in the hotel lobby playing the piano piano with a tip jaw like what are you playing the piano great hilarious man but you know it’s funny because uh when he play for the Celtics yeah you ha it he when he’s on the other opposite opposing team you hate him you hate him talk you know you know you can understand bird Mel and Parish uh talking trash but not him yeah and then you know him coming to play for us and you see the type of person that he that he the kind of teammate that he is so you respect him a lot more and I think he’s he’s a he showed how what how good a coach that he is I got to ask one last question the Dream Team experience that was great it was a great it it was one of the greatest experience of my my uh career just being around all those guys all those great players and I think everyone took a backseat to each other cuz you know everybody has we all have our our egos we all we all think that we are we’re just as good or or better than each other but um we all did what we needed to do to so that we could be uh the team that we that we we showed I think that if it wasn’t for that dream team a lot of the guys that were in the league now from all these other countries they would have been playing soccer still football and everybody else call it football um but I love the experience I love playing with those guys I developed some great friendships you know with with with those guys with Larry me me and Chris we’ve been friends for you know from from uh 84 um and then playing against each other with Georgetown and St John’s but just being around all those guys talking trash with Michael Larry magic um you know and the jokes and the card games and all the things that that happened our our families uh being around each other it was a great experience who wins you seen the roster for this this this Olympic team coming up don’t need to ask that I’m just doing my job man hey well I’m going throw you a l 92 Dream Team 922 92 Dream Team yes forever yes and me I think that this team that that they they have assembled is they’re they’re going to be they’re going to do fine but I think the biggest thing the biggest difference now is that everybody is is catching up or caught up every all the other countries they have caught up I mean if you look at the guys who are getting drafted now in the league um there’s a there’s so many great Europeans uh in in in basketball right now that it’s not going to be that easy man this has been a joy man absolutely it’s been a joy yeah hey like I said you know he wouldn’t he wouldn’t call me and ask me to come on so you know I I I had invite myself I’m like hey Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner you welcome anytime I appreciate that I appr I appreciate that that’s what I’m saying cuz he’s not going say but I say it when was you going to say it no they’re on me all the time call such and such and I’m like I’m not being I’m not inconvenience to anybody so you know this I said I said Dave when when is when you going to ask me on there man Dave snow I’m like Dave when is he going to when he when is he going to bring me on he’s like hey you know you got to call him get better man so know I’m still mad that he said let’s go back you still think about Janet Jackson she might she might have chose me over him though hey that’s what I’m saying you never know you might have dodged a bullet your confidence might not have been the same we said Janet not Sten oh man all right man we appreciate y’all for watching thank you to our sponsors Underdog fantasy click the link in the description or Mark Jackson show remember my guy Patrick Yu disrespected people holding signs talking trash saying things that didn’t match his character and who he was as a man never lost his cool stayed control stayed calm and imp acted as a man and a basketball player so much to the point that it allowed me a nappy-headed kid from New York City to be in a Nick uniform and be embraced by him if he acted a fool or got out of character the doors not open for me I salute Patrick Ying the greatest New York Nick ever and I say thank you I love you and forever grateful blessings [Music]

  1. Yo Mark and Blue, mention the sponsor a few more times. Also mention the day and time for your show. I do watch but, for others. Peace

  2. Great seeing Ewing smile, crack jokes, and have fun!! He was very serious and all business back in those 90s days. There was no hugging players from the other teams.- Just game face!

  3. Great interview! Love seeing the love between all of them. I have been a fan of Patrick Ewing since 1986 when I married my husband who was a Knicks fan. Thank you for this legendary interview!!!

  4. In Jamaica 🇯🇲 1993 (you cant play futbol – soccer ? You jamaican? Yeah but from New York City Im Patrick Ewing Jamaican Lmao 🤣)

  5. Pat Ewing was a dog. I remember growing up it seemed like he embodied what it meant to be a New York Knick with his attitude and on court presence. He's one of many HOFs who unfortunately played in the Jordan era that prevented him from winning a championship. Still one of the top 10 greatest centers of all time

  6. Growing up in Jersey as a Knicks fan, Patrick was my idol. Now, I feel like Patrick is really himself, unconstrained by the expectations of his youth. Game 7 in Houston gutted me.

  7. Great to see this wow mark is cool brother. Pat was a beast Ran into Pat at the fight night in Atlantic City pavlik fight night cool man. Great great great show case right thanks a million❤. Great to see this.

  8. I hit Like and sub within 2 seconds! Watched this great era, with guys like this made me an NBA fan! Laker lover then. HATE the NBA now. I watched grown men then. There are boys now. Don’t have time for kids doing kid things. Love the show!!! Fan for life Jackson’s!

  9. Patrick’s laugh is contagious. You should’ve laughed a little more in the playing days big fella. Really nice interview.

  10. trading jackson was a really bad move… they got charles smith in return and we all know how that played out. doc rivers ended up blowing out his knee. knicks never found someone who can get ewing the ball like jackson did. all of those offseason moves post 92 were trash.

  11. Some of these experiences are what the current NBA is missing. They over pampering everyone. I get protection for the players but they missing some sort of struggle
