[Music] good evening and welcome back to Emporia Kansas and the campus of Emporia State University this is day two of the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we had a very successful day one set some new records managed to overcome a weather delay but we got all of our events in yesterday and so far today we have had some more finals in some morning field events we have completed our multi events and we are just about ready to begin our track preliminaries this evening we will see preliminaries in both the men’s and women’s 200 800 and 110 M hurdles we’ll have the finals of the steeple chase this evening and of course the preliminaries for the men’s and women’s 4×400 me relays so we’re here in Emporia this is the fourth time that Emporia State has hosted the division 2 national championships and they’ve ordered up some excellent weather for us today it’s been in the mid 80s with just a slight breeze all day enough to keep both the sprinters and the distance Runners happy and the wind has not bothered too many of our field event athletes either we have completed our to cathlon and our heptathlon and we’ll give you an update on that this evening with fantastic performances from both sides of competition including a four time winner on the women’s hethlon we’ll see her in two events tonight as she will also be competing in our 110 me or 100 meter hurdles and our 200 we’re going to go ahead and start to set the lanes for the men’s 200 we are going to run three Heats against qualifying by the first heat the winner of each heat is in and then the next five fastest times will advance to the finals today we will be running from north to south so they are set up and standing at their blocks over on the northeast curve of the stadium and they will have maybe just a slight headwind at the start but they will have no should have no issues as they are coming down the home straight here here are the lineups here for this first heat this men’s 100 meter dash in lane two it’ll be Lorenzo Boyd from Cal Poly Pomona and I correct myself in the men’s 200 our heat one lane two it’ll be richl TTI from Minnesota state he’s on the inside in two Timothy Frederick of Eastern New Mexico in three Shamar Palmer of Fresno Pacific in four Solomon odonkor of Angelo State in five anj in of Academy of Art in six my Stevens of North Greenville and seven and darari Bush of Harding he’ll be on the outside fastest qualifying time in this heat keep an eye on lane four Shamar Palmer Fresno Pacific the sophomore he has run 2043 so far this season gun is now up for the first heat this evening this is the men’s 200 meter dash first of three qualifying Heats and a clean start to get us underway today and then you can see in lane four that is Palmer of Fresno Pacific and outside of him we will see ins of the Academy of Art but as they come down the straightaway In and Out of The Shadow of the Press Box on the track that will be Shamar Palmer of Fresno Pacific and he is going to capture this first heat and take the automatic qualifying spot he’ll Run 2 six to start us off this evening so Palmer is in again the heat winners automatically advance to the finals tomorrow and then the next five fastest times will also Advance our men’s 200 meter finals scheduled for a 4:40 p.m. central Time start tomorrow afternoon and now as we look at Heat number two setting their blocks here is the lineup on a Johnny in of Academy of Art will be in two Antonio Le of of the men 200 and again I do have to correct myself once again here are the lane assignments for Heat number two of this men’s 200 Paul Mosley of Lynn will be in lane two Josh verhoff of Finley he’ll be in Lane three kebran Moore of Albany State in four Malachi Adams of tiffan in five Parker love of Southwest Baptist in six and Leon Tona of Cal State Los Angeles he will be in Lane seven he was third in this last year the bronze medalist running out of Lane number seven in Heat number two fastest qualifying time so therefore we’d say the favorite in this heat would be Malachi Adams the senior from tiffen in Lane five this is Heat number two again only the heat winners with the automatic qualifier into the finals [Applause] and a bit of a delay here as one of the athletes needing some extra time to get his hurdle set but it looks like they are ready now and taking their marks heat two of the men’s 200 on the track [Music] [Applause] back you’ll hear the other sights and sounds of our women’s triple jump competition which is underway here along the home stretch also our women’s discus competition is underway in the field that is to the North and the east of the track here we are underway in another clean start and a very quick start from Adams of [Music] tiffen and they’ll be three across as they come down the home stretch and on the outside that is Teena again he was the Bronze medalist last year so the Junior from Cal State Los Angeles he is going to take our second just down to 2.2 so we have two qualifiers in and the next five now starting to get a little bit nervous my Stevens at 2086 he sits on the bubble as we now get ready for and there you see the athletes in hit threes Now setting their blocks Steven Harris of Franklin Pierce in two Jeremiah laon of West Texas A&M in three de priest Hogans of Pittsburgh state will be in four Raheem Tate best of University of Mary in five jabz Reeves of Minnesota state in six he was our indoor 200 meter Champion coming in this season with a mark of 2060 outdoors and then again on the outside will have the fast time from the senior from Albany State Ed Gilbert he’s run 2058 this season allif Jeremiah in Lane next up will be the women’s 200 M and then we will move straight into our qualifying for our men’s and women’s 800 M followed by the 110 and 100 m hurdles this evening again most of the events on the track today are all about advancing to the finals tomorrow although at 7:15 this evening central time we will have our men’s 300 meter steeple chase they qualified yesterday along with the women so that will be a final this evening all other events that we see here today again the goal is to qualify and advance to tomorrow’s finals gun is up now for the third and final heat of our men’s 200 keep an eye on the outside of the track Lane six our indoor 200 meter champion and Lane seven one of our fastest qualifiers that’s Reeves and Gilbert in Lanes six and seven and a clean start and if anybody’s out quickly it’s Gilbert from Albany State but the advantage of being on the inside you’ll see them but it is Gilbert first off the curve he’ll be joined by Reeves and then up on the inside that is the priest Hogans of Pittsburgh state so very close finish on the line and the timing system will tell us that Reeves of Minnesota state is going to win at 2064 Gilbert at 270 de PRI Hogans at 2074 and that will set the field for tomorrow so we knew our heat winners were in and they did have the three fastest times tyrena of Cal State Los Angeles the fastest qualifier today jabz Reeves and Shamar Palmer are in by winning their heat and our time qualifiers will be Ed Gilbert from Albany State the priest Holmes from pit State Johnny in from Academy of Art Josh verhoff from Finley and KBR Moore from Albany State he’ll get in at 2084 looking at our triple jump competition underway on the board we have Jada h Don from Minnesota State this was her final jump in the first round we are just wrapping up the second flight of our women’s triple [Music] jump that was actually from Minnesota state that was Stella nutu she’s currently in 15 place that marked 12 M 12 in and as we see now on the award stand this is the men’s de cathlon so the men’s de cathlon competition second day so they finished their five events today with 110 meter hurdles this morning followed by The discus the PV VA and the javelin and there you see making his way up to the top of the podium that is Hunter Jones from Pittsburg State and a fantastic finish for him yesterday he vaulted an alltime best PV Vault for a decathlon today he ends up being second in the hurdles third in The discus he wins the PV Vault he wins the javelin and his finish in the 1500 was enough to give him 7,898 points that is a personal best for him and if there’s only one negative that could come out of this day he just missed the Olympic trials qualifying by two points the automatic qualifier for the Olympic to Cath on is 7,900 and Hunter today finished at 7898 but that’s a personal best and just some fantastic performances him today as again he jumped over 7 feet 2 in yesterday in the high jump which was a record and today in the pole vault just another amazing performance with some personal bests so congratulations to Hunter Jones from Pittsburgh state and you can see not a cloud in the sky here as you look at the skies above Emporia if you look just to the left of your screen on top of the Press Box you can see Flags blowing quite a bit up there on the top left and they are blowing from north to south today yesterday we actually flipped the track for our Sprint events in our multi-events and we did run from south to North but the wind has shifted and it is definitely coming from the north today so that means it will be at the back for these 200 meter Runners as they come down the home stretch we’re going to move over to our women’s competition now again we will be looking at the heat winners advancing and the next five qualifying by time here are our lane assignments now for the first heat of the women’s 200 Gabby Horton of Colorado Mesa will be in Lane one colonique farington of Southwest Baptist in two gcia Perry of West Texas A&M is in Lane three javana cornette of Academy of Art in four Ashley Barrett of New Mexico Highlands is in Lane five Haley Bryant of Winston Salem in six DeAndre Nique gains of pit state in seven and outside in Lane 8 Alexis Brown of Lenor Ry not only with one of the fastest qualified ing times Ryan run 2311 this season she is also our indoor Champion so ironic that our indoor Champions who have to navigate a tighter curve indoors have both wound up finding themselves on the outside in their first round of the 200 meters here outside in Emporia the NCA division 2 indoor championships this year held in Pittsburgh Kansas just an hour or so to the east of us for the outdoor season for the fourth time now we are in Emporia Kansas and as we now hear the PA introductions for this first of three Heats in our women’s 200 meters again the goal is to qualify so they all want to win the Heat but if they don’t win the Heat they need to be in the next five fastest times to advance to the finals the finals for the women’s 200 are scheduled for 450 tomorrow afternoon and that of course that is Central Time outo 200 last St and Alex Brown the D naal Champion 200 from Len Ryan Outdoors last year as a freshman the starters being very deliberate this year then the of course the athletes therefore recognizing that and being very patient as they stand by their blocks waiting to be called to their marks not quite sure what we are waiting for here but now we see the gun is out this is the first heat of our women’s 200 met Horton farington Perry cornette Barrett Bryant Gaines and brown it does look like lane two is going to be vacant colonique farington from Southwest Baptist is a late scratch and a clean start in this first heat of the women’s 200 in the middle of the track from New Mexico Highlands The Freshman Ashley Barrett out very quickly but as predicted it is the outside Lanes who are doing the damage down the stretch and in Lane eight Alexis Brown of Lenor Ry she is our indoor champion and she is going to win this first Heat season best was 2311 and she is going to capture this heat in 2284 so a season best the wind is 2.5 at her back but Alexis Brown will automatically advance to the finals gains second at 2296 and we will have cornette Barrett Perry Bryant on the bubble as that was the first of three Heats now here are your lane assignments for Heat number two Aaron Thompson of UT Tyler is in one Ayanna fields of cowply Pomona in two akbu bikas of West Alabama in three Denisha cartright of Minnesota state in four Deborah aimp pong from West Texas A&M will be in five Tanaya Looney of pit state in six Sakina Messiah of University of Mary in s and Brooklyn Holtman of Central Central Missouri will be out there in Lane 8 going 129 as we get an opportunity to see Denisha cartright in lane four the senior from Minnesota state a perennial finalist in her time here in the division 2 National meet six gold medals already to her credit as she wraps up her senior season she is a three-time indoor gold medalist in the 60 M hurdles and she is a two-time gold medalist in the 100 meter hurdles in event she’ll be competing in not too long from now and also a gold medal in the 4×100 and you can pair that with the number of silver and bronze medals she has it is a name you have heard often here Denisha cartright of Minnesota state and she is in lane four [Music] and you can see how quickly cart right makes up the Stagger she’s already caught two at the top of the curve and she will be our leader coming off the curve there in lane four in the purple moving up on her inside that’s bikas of West [Music] Alabama and we’ll call that a mini upset it is just in the preliminaries but our winner of heat number two is going to be well cartright held her off from this angle in the Press Box it looked like bikas had caught caught right but the camera does not lie and our timing system says that Denisha cartright of Minnesota state will win that second Heat at 2330 bikas is second fields from Cal Poly Pomona is third gives us a chance to remind you that if you are following along with us watching on the live stream you can see all the action as it’s happen website you go to track and field click on division 2 and there you will find a link to the live results and if you are on that page you can follow along with us live results for all field events you can see every throw every jump every Mark as it is being recorded and then on the track you’ll be able to see the splits and all the official times and rankings as we sort out our qualifiers to know who has made it so you can follow along with us both ways and get the results just as quickly as we do here in the Press Box heat 3 is next and in heat 3 we’ll see in Lane one Haley Hunt of CSU San Bernardino lane two Jordan Taylor of Finley Lane three Sarah Copeland of Fresno Pacific Lane four Lauren James of Academy of Art Lane five Amari Weatherford from West Texas A&M Lane six Victoria orola from Len orine Lane seven Marie Eloise lir from Simon Frasier and in Lane eight Rose agouli from Lewis lir from Simon Frasier was third in this event last year she’ll be out there in Lane seven and the fastest qualifying time keep an eye inside of her in six Victoria arola The Freshman from Leno Ry she’s run 2287 the Heats are SE or the Heats are seated the lanes are not the lanes are drawn so once the athletes are seated into a heat the lane assignment Is Random so we can see our fastest times coming from the inside or the outside but again it does look like the fastest times in this heat we expect to be coming from the outside in Lanes six and [Music] [Music] seven and actually a very quick turn there on the inside sah Copeland to freno Pacific she’s in Lane three down the charge laclair on the outside in Lane seven but it is going to be sah Copeland from Fresno Pacific her fastest time this season 2315 she’ll run that today she will equal it 2315 the wind staying consistent at just a 2.3 so Copeland will qualifier and our field should be set for tomorrow with brown Copeland and cartright taking the automatic spots deand reque gains from Pittsburgh state Marie Eloise lir from Simon Frasier yakubu bikas from West Alabama javana cornet from The Academy of Art and Ayanna fields from Cal Poly Pomona she’ll take that last qualifying time at 2348 that will conclude our women’s 200 met Dash again the finals for this event scheduled for tomorrow at 4:50 p.m. central Time well from a half a lap we are going to go to the full twap race next we’ll have the preliminaries in the 800 M for our men that is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start track time is now 5:52 so we’ll have about eight minutes for the men to get out here and be ready to compete once again we are here in Emporia Kansas we are having a beautiful night of weather here for day two of the lane from Oklahoma Christian third sry and welcome back to Emporia Kansas and the campus of Emporia State University you are watching day two of the 20124 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we have just had our first events on the track today the sprinters are finished with the qualifying in the 200 MERS and we’ll go from a half a lap race to a two-lap race as our next event will be the 800 M for both men and women many of these athletes will tell you that if they have come up from high school where generally you’re not going to run prelims and finals in the 800 meters at the Collegiate level up the 800 and even the 1500 and the 3,000 M steeple chase contested over a two-day period or even 3 days if there’s a day of rest in between so these athletes now in the 800 meters the trick is to advance to the finals tomorrow so they do want to run well enough to make sure they are qualifying into the top eight but they don’t want to overexert themselves some of these athletes may be doubling up and even running in a 4×400 met relay this evening or one of the longer races that has been contested or still to come tomorrow so it’s difficult and that’s part of the learning process if you are going to run the 800 collegiately or even professionally you have to learn to run through the rounds at the major meets you may have to run a prelim a semi and a final but today it is just the prelims and the finals tomorrow so we’re going to have three Heats here is your first heat Now setting up on the track for the men’s 800 this will include Anthony Ethan starting out of Lane one from Oklahoma Christian Lane three we’ll see Isaiah Rodriguez from Western Oregon Lane four Warren theel from Charleston Lane five Harry Ross Hughes from Lake Erie Lane six Samuel Idan from Charleston Lane seven Maxim ton from Northwest Missouri the top two will advance here so a little more ability to to that woulded adjustment from the sprint races only the winner is guaranteed a spot in the finals from the 800 and up the top two are guaranteed with the next two fastest times we will just take eight to the finals of the 800 MERS and that is scheduled for a 345 start tomorrow so less than 24 hours from the prelims to the finals Rodriguez but we are just about ready for the prelims and again we’re going to have three Heats our starters are just waiting for the exact minute of the scheduled performance that of course is for athletes to make sure they get their complete recovery and more importantly for those of you watching live make sure you don’t miss the race so this is the first heat now of the men’s 800 on the track heat winners and second will automatically advance to the finals and then just the next two fastest times so you know that you do need to be in the top four in any of these three Heats on the track the favorite here in this heat probably going to be the sophomore from Lake Erie Harry Ross Hughes he was fifth last year and he does have a qualifying time of 14699 which is the fastest of this group here you see on the track as they are coming off of the north North curve for the first time and that is Ross Hughes in the lead in the white on green and as they run into the Shadow and Out of The Shadow of the Press Box you can see that it will be Hughes Ross Hughes bringing him through 5751 on their first 400 met split and as I that you can see it as they and the pace picking up on the backside still anybody’s race the 800 is probably one of the most difficult races to master it is no longer a distance race it is more or less a Sprint but it is not a full on out allout Sprint for two laps there is some strategy and part of that is making sure that you do not get boxed in and that you position yourself as you come down the curve and you can see the smartest race there on the inside that is Samuel Idan from Charleston it is the Freshman who sneaks through on the inside and he’s going to win our first heat in 15169 Ross Hughes will hang on for second second meaning he automatically advances to the final and Maxim teron and Warren theal will be on the bubble at 15195 1526 Ethan Anthony of Oklahoma Christian he pulled up on the North side side of the track running around that curve for the final time he did pull up and did not finish in heat two we’re going to see Drew Weber from Western Washington in two Drew Daly of Shippensburg will start in Lane three Aris Houston of calply Humbolt will be in four Braxton Brew of Minnesota state Morehead in five Wes Ferguson from Nebraska Carney he’ll be in LAN six he’s our defending champion in this event he did win last year in peblo he does also have one of the fastest qualifying times this season 14585 that is West Ferguson he’ll be starting in Lane six starting outside of Ferguson Riley wit of Northwest Missouri State in seven and dalen Madison of Ashland he will be starting out of lane8 this is a staggered start so the athletes do run around the first curve in their Lanes they’ll break as they head into the straightaway on the far side of the track at 800 and qualifier at in lane four the Junior from c h hum the 23 NC outdoor finalist in houon to five from MFC forhead we will have three Heats of this men’s 800 qualifying to be followed by three Heats of the women’s 800 and then we will move along to the hurdles the short hurdles the 110 meter hurdles for the men the 100 meter hurdles for the women qualifying and if you are looking at our master schedule this just feels like the short day the Friday of competition didn’t have any running events on on the track other than the finals of the multi-events starting until 5:30 and we could be all wrapped up by 8:30 this evening after the qualifying of the women’s 4×400 meter relay Heat number two now underway with a clean start and the advantage of running second at least you know the bubble times that you need to to beat the first heat can never take the chance to run a strategic race and the 800 runners in the second heat here also know that they need to push that pace run the fastest as they can not knowing what heat three will give us as far as qualifying times again the one to keep an eye on here is going to be Wes Ferguson of Carney he is our defending champion and you can see him there he’s wearing HIP number six so he quickly established where he wants to be and that is leading the race so he’s setting the pace and also staying out of trouble first 400 there he’s going to bring them through in about 55 so much faster heat here 5560 for Ferguson and that is almost 2 seconds faster than the first heat came through their first 400 and as around the backside Ferguson staying out of trouble definitely not going to be boxed making the athletes on his shoulder run a little bit further if they’re going to run behind him also not being able to pass him on the inside you’ll see the veteran here if that last race we did have a freshman squeak by on the inside Ferguson not going to let that happen and you can see as he turns around he’s just keeping his eye making sure that he is not only going to finish in the top two but he is going to win this second heat so the defending Champion will advance he’ll run 15038 which will be the fastest time Drew Daly of Shippensburg will take the Auto 1 15.8 and 151 flat those will be the two bubble times now so dalen Madison of Ashland Braxton Brewer of Minnesota state Morehead have set the times as they run a second heat much faster than that first heat and they will sit on the bubble now for Heat number three as they now know what they need to run and it is basically going to take a sub 151 to advance to the finals it looks like we do have some scratches in this first heat although the athletes taking their run outs Lane one will be vacant lane two will be Nolan Mohler of Drury Lane three Nick Schilling of Davenport Lane four Benjamin suner of isua Pacific he was seventh in this race last year Lane five Johan Korea of central Washington Lane six Antonio Blair of Angelo State and in Lane s Prince MBL of West Texas A&M and again the advantage of running in the final heat they know exactly what they need to do and if you’re not going to finish first or second in this heat then you are going to need to run under 151 flat so always a little strategy in this 800 the athletes who know that they can confidently outsprint everyone down the stretch they don’t mind a slow pace it is the athletes who don’t have that strong kick that need to push the pace from the beginning to make sure that if they are going to run their best time it is going to be better than 151 and every athlete in the field here has run under 150 this year the fastest qualifying time on the track right now Nick Schilling The Freshman from Davenport he’s running out of Lane three he’s won 14889 and going to have a recall there and it looked like lane two Nolan Mohler The Freshman from jury did difficulty keeping his balance and you saw him waving his arms and we’ll see now what the starters thought of [Music] that and no cards oh we did get a green card so that is a warning so everyone is safe Nolan Mohler can let that heartbeat but we do see a green warning and it looks like the green warning is to the field so that’s probably meaning that they did not come set quickly enough but a big sigh of relief from everyone and we’ll do it all over again from the inside out mhler Schilling suner Korea Blair maabo and a clean start this time again the goal is to be in the top two or to be under 151 [Applause] flat and all even as they run down the backstretch and obviously running on the outside in Lanes two or three may keep you safe but in an 800 M those are the few extra steps sometimes that make the difference between qualifying and not qualifying but of course if you get boxed in you’re in a whole different other world of trouble but as they come down the home stretch here out front that is Nick Schilling The Freshman from Davenport and as mentioned he does have the fastest qualifying time of the men on the track and he is going to bring them through in 54 so that is the fastest 400 m 5443 for Schilling the whole field coming through in 55 or better so if they can maintain that pace the two who are now most worried are the third and fourth Runners from the last Heat and that would be dalen Madison and Braxton Brewer Ry now into the second position and they do not look like they have slowed down at all this is Johan Korea of central Washington down the stretch and he is pulling away Benjamin summer of isua trying to fight back into that second position but it will be Korea and suner taking the first two STS and that will be the fastest qualifying time Johan Korea 14963 so he will advance in and sure enough the qualifiers will be under 151 it’ll be dalen Madison from Heat number two and Nolan Mohler from Drury he’ll take that last qualifying spot at 1582 so the men’s field is Now set and the women will be making their way out see there mhler of jury that’ll get him in and now as we get ready for our women’s 800 M there format is the same we’re going to have three Heats qualifying the top two in heat plus the next two fastest times to the finals and you can see the first heat getting their instructions now from the clerk of the course he’s just explaining to them again they will start in Lanes they will run around the first curve in Lanes they will break on the far side the runner up had a personal bet today by 2 m 5214 from Missi Western M champion in the women’s disc with a throw of 553 M 181 Jun ero congratulations and the [Applause] [Music] women and our officials making every attempt to start every race exactly on time and again that is for the benefit of you watching at home and also for the athletes who are doubling up they have trained for a set schedule of competition when they get to the National meet and so they know the difference between a 20h hour rest and a 24hour rest or even coming back on the same day coming back in 45 minutes or coming back in 38 minutes so everything very official here we are just about a minute away from the next race on the track here are your lane assignments for this first heat of the women’s 800 we are going to see aiel wri of Colorado School of Minds in the inside in lane two she was fourth in this event last year next to her in Lane three Lena hanich of the Academy of Art Megan roxby of Simon Frasier will be in four Maran lezma of Western Washington in five Laney Williams of Southwest Baptist in six McKenna thirston of Minnesota state in seven and Jaden Heron of CSU peblo she’s on the outside in Lane 8 and they are now underway this is the first of three Heats in our women’s 800 met and at the break on the outside that is Jaden Heron the sophomore from CSU peblo they were our host school last year for the 23 division 2 national championships and they will be our host school again next year for the 2025 NCAA division 2 national championships CSU peblo Runners generally in contention in this 800 M last year they had the runner up at both the men’s and the women’s divisions and both of those athletes are red shirting this year they want to be able to compete at home next year but also both training for the Olympic trials which are coming up and as we all know many of our athletes are hoping to qualify for the US trials but also our International athletes hoping to qualify for their own national championships and Olympic trials and and whether that is a direct or indirect appointment hopefully we will see some of these NCA division 2 athletes competing this summer in Paris well Heron brought them through the first lap in 6278 but that cost her as she has now fallen to the back of the pack and there are four runners coming off the curve remember only the first two are guaranteed spots in the finals and this is Megan roxby of Simon Frasier and on the inside aerial right of the Colorado School of Mines and she started slow but will finish strong so it will be Wright and roxby taking the two automatic qualifying spots in our first heat 20822 and 2087 starting sub 210 will’ll have 20921 and 20948 as our two bubble times from the first heat and you can see that the Shadows are long here now in Emporia Kansas track time is 6117 local time we’ve got a big shadow in front of the Press Box here as the Sun is setting behind us so a little bit difficult for cameras to navigate all the way around as they’ll go in and out of the sun and the shadow the wind still blowing from north to south which is a flip from how it was yesterday you can see just to the right right of your screen there are women’s triple jump competition underway on this west side of the stadium on the infield there and they are running from north to south here are the lane assignments now as they get ready to run Heat number two Kate Dawson of pit state in two Katie heck of Fort Lewis in three Jessica Simon of Adam state in four Elizabeth heson of um Mar in five Katherine Marsh of Adelphi in six Nicole Lawrence of Adam state in seven and tan chapco of Grand Valley outside in Lane eight and a clean start here in Heat number two chapco running out of Lane 8 the Junior from Grand Valley she was eighth in this race last year but you can’t place eighth if you don’t make the finals so again that is the goal today the times are important to the athletes but they would much rather have a qualifying place or a qualifying time than setting any personal records they can save that for tomorrow if all falls [Applause] right and this is Jessica Simon from Adam State leading the pack around the track for the first time and this heat is going to be just a little bit slower I think than our first heat the first heat came through 6278 6298 63 for this heat so relatively close the same time so we’ll see who has enough left in this second lap again only the top two are in and you can see the five up front there all bunched [Music] together that is Katie heck of Fort Lewis with hip number two she’s in that tough spot as she is boxed she has an athlete in front of her and to the side of her so there’s not much she can do other than hope that that runner on the outside her Fades and that is exactly what’s happened as Simon has picked up the pace and will be leading him off the curve with heck of Fort Lewis now able to be clear and run on her side so from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference we see Katie heck winning the heat from Adam State Jessica Simon takes first Katy hecka Fort Lewis is second and they will automatically advance Chap with12 and as we’re looking at those results up there I may have mixed up my athletes I don’t know I still thought I had it right but according to the timing system and we’ll trust them 100% Simon of Adam State wins that was Dawson of pit State who finished second so either pit state has Chang their uniforms a little bit some different looks up here but officially that will be Dawson of pit State second so now our bubble times are Elizabeth aeson of um Mary 20858 and Laney Williams of Southwest Baptist 20 0921 is the bubble time we get ready for Heat number three here we’re going to see Isabelle Marsh of adelfia in two alayia Brooks of urine Ohio in three she does have the fastest qualifying time Brooks that she’s run 20528 this year Lydia McLaughlin of Northwest Missouri will be starting in lane four andz Madam of tiffen in five Ellie fry of Dallas Baptist in six sfia kamacho of isua Pacific in seven and Le hin from Adam state will be lining up in Lane eight and they are now underway third and and that is Brooks quickly out in front she does have the fastest qualified time in the nation this year at 20528 and she is very quickly out to the front and setting a rapid pace so the rest of the field knows they can try and going with her or they can concede the early lead and maybe the victory to Brooks from Ursuline again the first two are automatic qualifiers [Music] currently running in that second position that’s Lea hugin from Adam State the sophomore she’ll come through just about 60 Flats so definitely the fastest heat Brooks comes through at 5933 so she blisters that first lap and we’ll see if she can sustain that pace remember all she has to do is finish in the top two she does have the fastest qualifying time but she did go out sub one minute first 400 and that is very fast hookin continuing to run second on the track and the rest of the pack knowing that they came through very fast [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and she Brooks says she feels great out there she has not slowed down one bit so this is going to be a very very fast qualifying hookin still is second on the track but Brooks is going to run 20607 hookin 20782 McAdam of tiffen is going to run third 20883 and that 20883 is not quite going to be fast enough it’s going to be a personal best for mclin of Northwest Missouri State but it is going to fall outside those two qualifying times inz McAdam of tiffen 20815 and Elizabeth aeson of University of Mary 20858 and they will be the two automatic qualifiers for tomorrow’s finals in the women’s 800 which are scheduled for a 355 Central Time start that is going to conclude our 800 met preliminaries next up on the track it will be the men’s 110 meter hurdles that is scheduled for a 6:35 start so that’s about 9 minutes away so while they are setting up the hurdles now here on the home stretch we’ll take another short B break and be back with the qualifying in welcome back to Emporia Kansas and the campus of Emporia State University here for the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we are just about done with all of our field events for the day the women’s triple jump just wrapping up so we’ll bring you a recap of all the field events that were finals today we also finished our multi-events both the heptathlon and the decathlon completed earlier today they have presented those Awards and we’ll give you an update on everything at the end of the day on the track we are just about getting ready for the first of our qualifying Heats in the short hurdles the men will go first it’ll be the 110 meter hurdles will have three Heats that’ll be followed by the women’s 100 meter hurdles again three Heats and then of course we will have the finals in the steeple chase for both the men and the women and as always on the middle day the Friday of the national championships we will close out with the qualifying in the 4×400 Met relays and the athletes now in this first heat just getting to do their first run throughs the officials will never let them start doing run throughs until the hurdles are all set and again that is more than anything a safety concern we will have three Heats so in the shorter races on the track just the heat winner is guaranteed a spot in the finals so on this eight Lane track for our men’s 100 meter hurdles that means the heat winners will get in plus the next five fastest times will advance to the finals the finals for the 110 meter hurdles are tomorrow at 2:45 and we will run the men’s 110 M hurdles before adjusting the hurdles for for the women’s 100 m hurdles and then of course we’ll adjust it for the steeple chase barriers so still yellow as we are getting ready for this next race on the track it is scheduled for a 6:35 start so we are just 2 minutes away the weather has been beautiful today yesterday we had a nice day with the weather in the low 80s most of the day we did had some cloud cover come in in the evening had some lightning in the vicinity and some light rain didn’t really cause any damage other than about an hour and a half delay on the track last night right before we had our 10,000 M finals but we were able to get those in and despite a late night and an early morning for everybody a very successful day one today the weather has just been beautiful still not a cloud in the sky here in Emporia Kansas and we got the White Flag so we are just about ready to begin here are the lane assignments now for this first race on the track in lane two from Minnesota state it’ll be Jaylen McGee Lane three from Colorado School of Minds Everett delat in lane four from Augustana Andrew Martins he was fifth last year in Lane five from Northwood Mao Morrison in Lane six from Central Missouri Parker Warmack and in Lane seven from Pittsburgh state d Williams Williams was seventh last year you can see that the athletes starting in the shadow of a building so they are going to come out of the Shadow into the light they’ll go back into the shadow in the middle of the race and then they will finish in the light so apologies to any of you looking on your screen and finding it difficult to identify your athletes but it is just that way here in the stadium as well as we are going in and out of the shade here in the sunsetting dusk of Emporia Kansas Lanes two through [Applause] S yeah the heat winners will be in and hurdles taking their toll [Music] [Applause] as in the middle of the track we’ll lose one Runner but Parker wac survives from Central Missouri the wind is just 2.1 and at their back sometimes that little bit of wind is what’ll push an athlete over the hurdles and that may have been what happened to Mio Morrison from Northwood if you just get to the hurdle a little bit too soon that can completely throw off your steps Morrison will crash out of this first heat unfortunately warmech is in 1357 and then the top five times will be qualifying so all four of those athletes on the track technically now still on the bubble as we have the first of three Heats complete here are the lane assignments now for Heat number two in Lane one we’ll see Joel naua from Pittsburgh state lane two Malachi Pipkin from Missouri Southern Lane three alesio sual from Cal Poly Pomona Lane four Matthew Blackman from Livingston Lane five Savon bush from Harding Lane six Rane Bartlett from Limestone and Lane seven Ryan fields from Cal Poly Pomona and there you can see that yellow flag from the official telling everybody we’re not ready to start yet but that flag is whipping in the wind and it is blowing from north to south where the athletes are coming from so hurdlers more than any other event group they do have to adjust for the wind it can be difficult if you have a headwind because that’ll slow you down and keep you from getting to the hurdle it can be difficult if you have a Tailwind because you can get to the hurdle too fast and it can be difficult if you have a wind approaching from the side because that can blow you over into the next Lane and you may not really notice the wind but when you are leaving the ground 10 times in a 100 meter race the wind can take its toll so athletes just finishing up their run throughs and we will get ready for the second of three Heats in these 110 M hurdles again good opportunity to remind all of you watching along today that you can also go and follow us live on the internet with all of the official times marks throws and you can get the results just as quickly as we do here in the Press Box and the easiest way to get there is to go to the NCAA website find the track and field tab make sure you click on division two and then from that homepage you can find the live results link and that will take you to our official timing page and on the left side there you can scroll down to the event that we are watching which in this case is our men’s 110 meter hurdles and it will tell you the athletes in not only our current heat but it’ll have the compiled results and they will populate just as quickly as they are assigned by the screen reader and you will know who qualifies as quickly as we do gun is up now for Heat number two Nisa Pipkin somal Blackman Bush Bartlett and Fields and it looks like the middle of the track there Lane five Savon Bush of Harding but again from the angle it is not it is Ryan fields of Cal Poly P 1379 for Fields bush is 1383 Malachi Pipkin of Missouri Southern third across the line at 1403 natat tousa from pit State crashing out at that second hurdle and again it may just be that wind that we have there plus 3.1 m/s so the wind picked up a little bit as we continue into the evening here and here come the rest of the times now populating s Cal of calply at 1416 and that is going to be just outside our bubble time so we have two Heats complete just one heat to go Malachi Pipkin of Missouri Southern at 1403 he is the bubble time that they will be searching for in this final heat here are our lane assignments now for the final heat on the track Edgardo Lopez from Puerto Rico mayz he’ll be on the inside his second trip here to the National meet the Junior from Puerto Rico in Lane three jadarius Pig of Missouri Southern Lane four Jake Johnson from Emporia State Lane five Kobi him menz of and again I apologize starting to read the wrong heat for us again as we go to heat three again it will be Edgardo Lopez of Puerto Rico mayz he’ll be in Lane one DJ Duncan of Ashland in two Wilson mlan of Alabama Huntsville in three Kobi Jimenez of Fresno Pacific will still be in lane four TJ Skinner of Ashland in five jadarius pig in six and kale cassen of Lee Tennessee he’ll be on the outside in Le 7 and he is just through his competing in the decathlon earlier today so as most of these athletes preparing for their first event of the day this will be kale casson’s sixth event of the day he did finish sixth in this last year and he does have the fastest qualifying time 1353 three and he led off this morning in the decathlon 110 M hurdles and he was the winner of that he ran 1379 this morning to be the best decathlete and if this is his best event he’s turning around and doubling it and trying to run that time again and if he runs that 1379 again he would be an automatic qualifier whether he finishes first in this heat or not so that’s Lane seven kale Cen the sophomore from Al of course in between these 110 meter hurdles Cen will have been busy with throwing the discus P vaaling throwing the javelin and running A500 M just about an hour ago and a clean start and another athlete losing his battle with the hurdles but at the finish line that is going to be cassen so that is his 11th event now in two days and you can see just how tired he is taking a deep breath but he’s got a big smile on his face as he will win this heat 1402 and that will take him into the finals Skinner of Ashland at 1424 and unfortunately that’s going to be good enough only for 12th best so our heat winners were in Warmack fields and KAS and our qualifiers by time are going to be Andrew Martins of Augustana dalen Williams of pit State Savon Bush of Harding Everett delat from the Colorado School of Mines and Malachi Pipkin of Missouri Southern he will dance to the finals at four [Music] and now we short break on the track while we set the hurdles for the women’s competition but on the award stand here we do see the results of our women’s triple jump competition and this will be a good team move for the lady gorillas from pit State as Taylor nellums of pit state will finish second at 1306 that’s 4210 and a quarter and her teammate will win it on a chess of pit state with a season best 13 M 26 that’s 43′ 6 in so we haven’t made too much mention of our team scores yet but on our website here with all of our live results it is nice that we have current and upto-date team scores and pit state by virtue of taking first and second in this women’s triple jump is now into the lead in the team standings a commanding lead on the women’s side of competition we’ve now had onethird of competition is complete we have completed seven of the 21 events Pittsburgh state is our leader with Now 52 points Grand Valley State currently second at 23 and A2 isua Pacific is third at 16 the men have only completed six of their 21 events so far so the score is not going to be too clear but it is interesting to note that West Texas A&M is our early leader with 26 points Missouri Southern has 25 Harding also with 25 points so again another benefit of going to the live results page not only do you get every single Mark and split and time up to date you can also be up to date with the team scoring and as we get into the end of day two and continuing into day number three of the NCAA division 2 national championships of course those team scores will be even more important for the teams in contention pit State looking for its third consecutive championship in the men’s division they are currently in sixth place with 15 points but it is their women who are currently on top of the leaderboard so the hurdles shift a little bit they still run 10 flights but they do drop in height two notches down for the women to run their 100 meter hurdles again we are going to have three Heats and again that means just the heat winners will qualify for the finals in the next five fastest times we are going to get an opportunity in this first heat to see Nicole Warick of isua Pacific the senior running different events this year she does have one of the better multi- heptathlon marks that she will be we assume hoping to qualify for the Olympic trials in yesterday she did win the women’s long jump and what would have been a record but was wind dated now she’s turned around going the opposite a direction she’ll be in lane two there you see her on your screen here are the full lineup Hannah Chang of Seattle Pacific is in one Nicole Warrick of isua Pacific in two Crystal Walker of Northern Michigan is in three Roxanne Foster of Minnesota state in four isaba okoy from Minnesota state in five Cella nguma from Harding in six and Blakeley win from pit state is in Lane seven the hurdles taking their toll on the men today and it may be a combination of the wind and the light going in and out of the Shadows we’ll see how the women fa in their 100 meter [Applause] hurdles in lane two that is Nicole wari from azuza Pacific and she is going to cruise to victory in this first heat war will run 1345 the win just a 1.5 so not a factor there anduma from Harding will be second at 1370 and of course after just one heat two through six are all on the bubble it is Crystal Walker of Northern Michigan currently in sixth overall position and now we’ll take a look at Heat number two of our women’s 100 meter hurdles there in wearing HIP number one that’s Melody Jones from Lenor Ry she’ll be on the inside Leighton gon of West Texas A&M in two Denisha cartright of Minnesota state in three we saw her earlier in the 200 M working towards multiple national championships so keep an eye on Denisha cartright she is our two-time defending champion in this event the 100 meter hurdles and look for her to get out of the box very quickly because she is also a three time 60 meter hurdle Champion so cartright is in three lane four Tia horning of University of Mary Lane five Patrice Clark of New Mexico Highlands Lane six mauricea Spence of Angelo State and in Lane seven Missy morinii of UCCS morinii was eighth in this event last year so the senior from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs she is on the outside but keep an eye on her as she has made it to the finals once before and to the podium the fastest qualifying time this season only one athlete under 1316 and that is Denisha carite and she has a season vest of 1260 so unfair to say that any one athlete is do going to dominate an event but it is Denisha cartright from Minnesota state the clear favorite in this race and of course she will be running out of Lane three Denisha cart right in the middle of the track and they’re going to get called up just some athletes just taking too much time in the blocks there and we see our starter assistant starter walking out into the track he is going to give a verbal warning there to the athlete on the outside but nobody is eliminated on your and it does look like Lanes six and eight are open and that would be mauricea Spence of Angelo State not running in Lane six but keep an eye on cartright Lane number three the senior from Minnesota state the two-time defending Champion very quick out of the blocks and to the first hurdle and you can see this acceleration that she has after that first hurdle everybody else is just getting adjusted and cartright is using that to accelerate and she will slow down and basically just walk across the line 1301 for cartright the wind reading there just a 2.4 m/s so she’ll bring the heat along with her and that’ll of course will adjust our bubble time and finishing fourth in that heat Leighton grion her time of 1389 will be the new bubble time as we have one currently our final time qualifier at 1389 that’ll be the time to beat as we head to this final heat now of our women’s 100 meter hurdles and we will see two returning finalists from last year in this third and final heat you can see that wind still quite Breezy but it is at their backs and they will appreciate that so as they are getting that white flag [Music] the smarter athletes will be seeing the direction of those two flags and making their adjustments again probably the worst thing for a hurdler is to have a strong tailwind and to get to a hurdle too fast you cannot really adjust for that this is the final section of the hurdle qualifying which means the next event will be the men’s steeple chase that scheduled for a 7:15 start so again we will have a little break on the track at the conclusion of this race but as they are now back at their blocks here are your lane assignments for Heat number three in lane two it’s Teresa green white from Tusculum Lane three Brooke barkasy from Grand Valley she Advanced to the finals last year placed ninth in lane four from sagov Valley the senior Cheyenne Nesbit it she was seventh in this race last year but of course we watched her for the past day and a half competing in the heptathlon where she is a four-time heptathlon National Champion she also has a fast qualifying time of 1325 Cheyenne Nesbit she’ll be in lane four in Lane five we’ve got adaa Brewster of min OTA State Lane six kindall Carter of Cal State University San Bernardino Lane seven Natasha Bernett of Sean Hill so that is our field nesbet has scratched so little difficult to see down there in the shadows of the starting line but nesbet with her qualifying for the Olympic trials in our heptathlon has decided to take her accolades four consecutive heptathlon championships and she says I don’t need to run the hundred hurdles today so she’s going to give somebody else a chance to qualify for the finals so we’ve got green white barkasy Brewster Carter and Bernett [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and a clean race that Brewster LED most of the way and she is going to hang on for the victory she is just going to hold on as Teresa green white 1448 green white will advance by time she’ll have the fastest second place time Clark of New Mexico Highlands morinii of UCCS and Guma of Harding will get in along with our final qualifier by time Natasha Bernett of Sean Hill so this third heat sewing out to be the fastest they also had the plus 2.6 win behind them but it is going to take 1372 Natasha Bernett with the final qualifying time that is going to conclude this hurdles qualifying in both the 110s and the 100 meter hurdles the next events on the track will be the steeple chase that is scheduled for a 7:15 start current track time now is just 7:00 we’ll take a short break and we’ll be back to Emporia Kansas for the 2024 NCA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships you know what one for [Music] do hey I know m a well she’s done and welcome back to Emporia Kansas we’re on the campus of Emporia State University here at Zola Wht track in Welch stadium and we welcome you back from the short break we’re just in time to catch the beginning of our men’s Steeple Chase and again this is an event that is a prelim final yesterday afternoon we had the preliminaries and today now we have the final 12 making their chance to get on the podium just eight make the podium 12 Athletes In Contention in this men’s 3,000 met steeple chase that’s 7 and 1 half laps around the track and you can see that they are lined up at the starting line here’s the field sahil buffi from Windgate Jarrett Gillingham from West Washington Edwin sua from Western Colorado Tian lree from Windgate Grant Bradley from Fort hay state aspo kiob from East Central Caleb footer from Grand Valley State ree Smith from Northwest Missouri Nixon corer from isua Pacific Paul corer from East Central and there you see the clean start also in the field Felix perier from isua Pacific and Ricardo Barbosa from Windgate so three Windgate athletes all with nice qualifying times and of course our defending Champion ree Smith of Northwest Missouri he is in the field as [Music] well so they’ll run through the first 200 M with no barriers and they’ll come through just about 33 seconds for that first 200 M and then they’ll meet their first barrier there in the shadows and as the field immediately stretches out we can give you just a little more details on our field the GRE is the one that leads them through 3375 on that first 200 met split they’re now over two barriers they will have this barrier there approaching on the backstretch over the first and then the dreaded water barrier will be next the water barrier here not on the top of this North curve but just as they make this quick leftand turn they’ll face that barrier midway between the straightaway and the top of the curve but it looks like all of our athletes clear through the water barrier for the first time again we’ve got ree Smith he’s wearing HIP number eight from Northwest Missouri he is the defending Champion Caleb footer Caleb footer was fourth in this race last year Nixon corer was fifth Felix perier he finished he made it to the finals but finished ninth and off the podium so Felix perier from zza Pacific with some incentive to improve on his placing last year and make it to the podium soil buzy from Windgate he was fifth place in our indoor 3000 M this year of course the steeple chase not an event that you can compete in side but the same distance so fifth place in the indoor 3K was soil bezy the fastest qualifier yesterday was Ricardo Barbosa from Windgate he ran 90120 but of course the goal yesterday was just to advance to be able to run in this race so we should see much better performances today during the regular season it was buzy with the fastest qualifying time many of these athletes heading out to California to run in the Brian clay Invitational buzy ran 837 there lree was 840 Barbosa ran 840 futter 842 all at Brian clay Jarrett Gillingham from Western Washington he is your gnak Champion he ran 845 at his conference meet and so ASO kiob running 855 at the Great American Conference Championship so just under five laps to go now and on the track we’ve lost two at the back of the pack that’s ree Smith from Northwest Missouri so our defending Champion not looking like he is in position to defend his title he is at the back along with Jared Gillingham from Western Washington and the two-day competition may have taken it toll on those two as they are at the [Music] back as they come off the curve here we will get a closer look at how the field has started to split up come on Paul corer of East Central is setting the pace on the track but you can still see that that lead Group of Seven Runners all together now with four laps to go Barbosa of Windgate 404 buzy at 404 and kiop they are the three setting that pace but still eight nine even the top 10 Runners all still theoretically with a good chance there still just lost those two off the back of the pack and that’ll be a disappointment for ree Smith our defending national Champion the field of 12 does make it a little bit easier to navigate all of the barriers one of the most difficult parts of this race has to be approaching a barrier if you do have an athlete in front of you and you don’t have much opportunity to see it you just have to jump and hope that have jumped at the right time so heel buzy wearing HIP number one there you can see now he has taken over the pace he is a junior from Windgate leading two of his two mates into this race so Windgate can do some damage in the team standings if they can pick up three high place finishers here in this race and you can see Windgate that is running one and two right now with both frezy and Barbosa lree also so the third runner from Windgate moving into that second position now so Windgate currently running 1 two three in this race on the [Music] track and you can see The Windgate Runners taking turns with leading and allowing each person to get over that water jump first first the field always spreads out just a little bit through the water jump that is where you can make up a second or two if you can get a clean plant step and get out of there quickly lree now taking charge but it is still Windgate running one two and three on the track aspel kiob of East Central he is there in the orange singlet currently running in fourth [Music] position and then you do have the teammates from isua Pacific Felix perier and Nixon corer also up at the front so there you can see just a little bit more of Separation we have six out front you got your three from Windgate your two from isua Pacific and your one runner from East Cent Central in that first group and we will see the pace start to pick up as they come off the curve here and cross this barrier they’ll have just over two laps to [Music] [Applause] go it is Windgate setting the pace [Music] and there is the Bell lap so we’re going to see who has the fastest final 400 Windgate currently running 1 two three and that would do wonders if they can pick up the 25 points from this race that is Felix perier of isua Pacific he is sitting in fourth place right now and you can see the pace has picked up on the backstretch can Windgate hold on and go one two three or will perer or career managed to catch them falling off the back just a little bit is Aso kiop of V Central he’s in the orange so two barriers left they’ve got to get clear of the water and they will have one more barrier on the stretch and that is lree making the first move it is a straight out Sprint to the Finish now just one more [Applause] [Music] barrier tan lree from Windgate he has the strongest finish and look at this at the end Windgate is going to go 1 2 three how about that be proud lree wins it at 8:38 that’s a personal best buzy is second at 839 and Ricardo Barbosa he will take bronze gold silver and bronze that break 8 for the firstat and you hear the Applause now for Smith of Northwest Missouri State he’ll finish last in this race the defending Champion so clearly something just not quite right and he’ll run straight through the finish line and head back over to the side so we’ll wish him the best if he has any other more events to continue it’s always a difficult realization that you are not going to be able to give a fair attempt at defending your title but give it up for Windgate Windgate going one two and three on the track and lree took off with about 200 meters to go so it was his race to lose be frezy running second solidly Rob barusa had dropped back into fourth but then manages to outsprint Felix per per of iszi Pacific down the stretch and perryer running a personal best 841 so he can’t be too unhappy with that footer will be fifth Nixon career of isua will be sixth so isua Pacific will pick up some valuable team points in that man’s competition so that’ll conclude our finals competition for men today on day two we still have our women’s steeve Chase and then we’ll have the preliminaries for the 4×400 and the women’s 4X 100 and we’ll let Windgate celebrate this Champion they look like they could run another one if they needed to we’ll go ahead and take a short break as they adjust the hurdles for the women’s steeple chase they’re starting to make their way out onto the track so we’ll have just a very short break and we’ll see you back here for the women’s steeple chase welcome back to the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we’re here at Zola Whitten track in Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University you just hopefully were with us to see the men’s 3000 met steeple chase final Windgate going one to 2 and three now it’s time for the women no real clear-cut favorite here in this women’s race they qualified Yesterday by place and time so we’ve got the top 12 now coming to the line they are just about ready to start this race we are scheduled to see cathina gutell of the Academy of Art Morgan hikes from Adam State Maria Mitchell from Grand Valley State Ava o Conor from Adam State Marissa diatri from Chico State McKenna kavanau from Lee Gracie hind from Adam State and they’re underway also in the field Isa Davis from Western Washington Anna egam from Slippery Rock Margot Thomas from CSU peblo Alexa Kaiser from sagov Valley and Margo bassart from the Colorado School of Mines highest Place finisher back from last year’s competition Ava ‘ Conor the Junior from Adam state [Music] and that is ‘ Conor currently in second place on the track Morgan hikes her teammate and Gracie Hyde So Adam state has three in the green we have our indoor 3000 meter Champion Gracie Hyde from Adam State she won the indoor 3K so again no barriers indoors but she run as one over this distance diatri made the finals last year in finished ninth generally this has been the strength of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference but we are missing our conference winner and our conference runner up both crashing out of the race yesterday Allison Beasley of Western and schulof of Adam State not finishing this race so they did not advance to the final but the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference still well represented by Adam State CSU peblo and the Colorado School of minds but while we said we didn’t think there would be a favorite on the track Gracie Hyde from Adam State the senior has said well if there is no favorite I’ll just go ahead and take that role myself so she is out to an early lead her teammate Ava ‘ Conor currently running second on the track so Adam State looking to make a push here in this women’s steeple chase at the end of day two we do start thinking a little bit more about the team scoring as the points start to take shape and we have a good idea of what teams are going to be contending for the team title and what events are coming up with those athletes today is the last day of qualifying our 4×400 met relays will be qualifying after this race and then of course tomorrow everything is a final on Saturday so still early in the race but no sign of slowing down for Gracie hide and as she was the indoor 3K Champion we know that the distance is not going to be a factor for her it’s just whether she can get over all the barriers cleanly and keep up the pace that she has set Ava o Conor again she was third last year the Junior from Adam State she has run sub 10minute steeple chase this year at the Portland Twilight Meet she ran 954 the only other Runner to break 10 minutes in this event is our leader Gracie Hyde at Brian clay she finished second running 928 so I’ll go back on my words at the beginning I guess we will say that Gracie Hyde is the faite in this race and she is definitely demonstrating that on the track right now she has roughly a 70 or 80 meter lead on the rest of the field as she heads down the backstretch cleanly over the hurdles you can see she is not stepping on the hurdle she is hurdling the barriers that is one thing that is changed over the last few years it used to be that most of the athletes would take a step step up on the barrier and then kick themselves off of it but now the majority of them are just straight hurdling the barriers and coming into the shadow there you can see our leader coming down the home stretch here and as she just goes out of your screen that is still the senior from Adam State Gracie Hyde and as she approaches this Finish Line she will have four laps to go so 1600 left o Conor still running second on the track and that is Marissa diatri from Chico State currently in that third position so just about the halfway point now in the race Gracie Hyde just about 448 at the halfway point so she is on a sub 10-minute Pace 928 again she ran at Brian clay of course that was at sea level in a Big Field where she took second and training at altitude in Alamosa Colorado certainly paying off for the grizzly Runners when they come down and run their bigger meets at sea level or here in this case in Poria which is just about 1100 ft in elevation but absolutely absolutely no signs of slowing down for Hyde consistent last two 400 met splits of 78 77 and she is about 4 seconds faster on each lap than the current pack chasing her which still includes Ava ‘ Conor in second and Marissa diatri of Chico State in third now moving up into fourth position that’s cathina G of Academy of Art she ran 1021 at Brian clay and that’s just about the pace she’s on if not a little bit faster [Applause] [Music] the sun going down now and the Shadows just getting longer and longer here in Emporia Kansas and that does make it just a little bit difficult for everybody here to see the athletes but of course the camer is having difficulty with going in and out of the lighting photographers around the track positioning themselves so that they are all in the shadow or all in the sunlight but our entire home stretch now in Shadow it’s not just the sun behind us in the Press Box the entire straightaway in Shadow two laps to go 7:02 on the clock for Hyde no real change for second and third and fourth athletes all running by themselves and most of them will tell you that in a steeple chase that’s not such a bad thing you don’t necessarily want to have somebody next to you or going over the barrier right in front of you less chance for any accidents on the [Music] track Gracie hdes penultimate water jump she’s clean there so she now with just about 500 meters to go she’ll have each barrier to hurdle one more time when she clears this one which is the first barrier on the straightaway so basically now just about one lap to go for our leader no signs of slowing down for Gracie Hyde so she’s going to be able to keep the pace going 820 with one lap to go for Gracie Hyde second place Ava oconor just now coming off the curve so more than a 100 meter lead on the track and we’ll see if any of our two three and four runners change position in their final lap got a big chase pack currently fifth through Ninth Place but we’ll go ahead and focus our attention now back to our leader on the track Gracie Hyde just two more barriers to go she’s making her way around this North curve for the final time so this will be her final water jump and she’s clean there takes a deep breath know that if she comes off the curve it’s just one more barrier and then she would be home free and she has almost a half a lap lead on second place also her teammate So Adam stated is going to do well but we are going to give all accolades here to Gracie Hyde the senior from Adam state is going to Breeze to Victory and it’s going to be a very fast time it’s not going to be her best time she ran 928 at Brian clay but she’s going to run 936 here today and that is a very good time considering she took off at the gun and has led ever since Ava o’ Conor now coming off the curve she looks to be finishing second theatri of Chico State is currently third but gutell is coming doesn’t look like she’s going to have enough to catch her so Adam state is going to go first and second Chico States theatri will be third and cathina gutel of Academy of Art will be fourth here comes a race for Fifth and Alexa Kaiser of sagov Valley is going to jump up for fifth Adam St is going to take a bit of a hit there as Morgan hikes was in that pack looking for a metal finish she hit that last barrier and went down and of course that’s going to cost her a Podium finish those additional points coming in this women’s steeple chase but they will not get them thanks to that barrier in the women’s steeple chase so you can see all the times now up there on your screen Adam state will go one and two and that’ll be the final final event of the day so when we do our recap at the conclusion of our 4×400 met relays we’ll know exactly what our team scores are for the women the men’s now have all been tabulated so the men have caught up they have had seven of 21 events are complete so onethird of the meat is finished for the men West Texas A&M still are leader at 26 they are now tied with Windgate so when you go first second and third in the men’s Steeple Chase and you pick up 25 points that gives Windgate 20 third of the event is done West Texas A&M has 26 Windgate has 26 Missouri Southern has 25 Harding has 25 Grand Valley State has 23 isua Pacific with 22 so the top six teams all within four points of each other and there you see how Windgate jumped into first place Windgate going first second and third in this men’s Steeple Chase and you can see that is lree on top the jorat second place going to Ricardo Barbosa and third place or correction second place to bzy Barbosa gets third and now you see the teammates from Windgate all sharing that top spot on the podium that’s going to conclude our steeple chase the only event we have left today will be the qualifying for the the 4×400 Met relays that is scheduled for a 750 start so we’ll go ahead and give you one final break here on the track before we are back to Emporia Kansas for the qualifying in the men’s 4×400 met relay [Music] and welcome back to the 2024 NCA Division 1 division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we are here in Emporia Kansas on the campus of Emporia State University it’s been a fantastic two days of competition the weather today has just been incredible still even as the sun is going down not a cloud in the sky nor threat of last year last night we did have a few thunderstorms rolling in creating a hour and 20 minute delay but tonight nothing but blue skies and sunshine and excited athletes on the track we’ve completed a lot of events today all we have left now is the qualifying for the 4×4 but those of you who are track fans you know how interesting and exciting the 4x4s can be these athletes are in no hurry to go home end their season they would like nothing better tonight than to advance to the finals we’re going to begin with our men’s 4×4 we’ve just got two heats the lanes will be full for each heat but we are going to qualify the top two plus the next four fastest times to a final so again it is not that you want to go all out and completely exhaust yourself this evening because you want to come back and be able to run well tomorrow especially if you have other events that you are competing in but there are no Taking Chances if you are not going to finish first or second in your heat you are limited in your finishing in the top four by time that does put the pressure on the first three legs of the relay but it does give the anchor leg just a little bit of flexibility in what he or she can do of course many athletes here hoping to make the finals but also wanting to finish their Seasons with a career best or a season best so all in for everybody we are in the first heat here and from the inside out in this men’s heat St Augustine in two Fresno Pacific in three pit state in four Lee in five Cal State Los Angeles in six and Grand Valley in Lane seven top two will advance automatically plus the next four fastest times we do get the relay cards turned in but there is no guarantee that the athletes will necessarily run in that order Cal State Los Angeles in Lane six scheduled to begin with Leon Tona he was the fastest qualifier in the 200 M earlier this evening so that would make sure that he is warmed up and ready to go again this is a three curve stagger so the first athletes are in Lanes the whole way they’ll hand off in their lanes and the second leg will have to run around the first curve in their Lane so won’t know a true leader until they get the break on the back stretch but on the inside this is Pittsburgh state looking like they will make the first actual exchange on the track and that will be the case as pit State now in the middle of the track will be your leader at the break Fresno Pacific in Lane three moving up very quickly on the inside but now as they make the break it is pit State pit state is our two-time defending team champion and if that team title comes down to the 4×400 meter relay tomorrow evening which would be the last event for the men pit State makes sure they are going to want to be in there Fresno Pacific though is our leader on the track a very second strong second leg here by Kobe Jimenez if that is him and he is going to hand off in the lead at the Midway Point 132 for Fresno [Music] Pacific Valley and just looking at the names on the computer screen versus the names on the heat sheets the same four but the order is different so we will leave it up to you if you recognize your athletes out there you know who’s running but we’ll tell you the teams and it’s still Fresno Pacific in the lead but being challenged here by pit State and again the goal is to be in the top two so pit state will have our lead heading into the anchor leg Fresno Pacific still running [Music] second and down the backstretch you can see jockeying for that second position pit State feeling comfortable if he can hang on coming off the curve but he has four horses charging hard down his neck all trying to get that second spot you don’t need to win the race but you do need to be in the top two pit state is going to hang on and win Fresno Pacific looking like they might hang on for a second Here Comes Lee and it is going to be Lee at the Finish Lee means they will get the automatic qualifier 3071 for pit State 308 77 for Lee Fresno Pacific will be on the bubble at 30886 although the next four fastest times get in so that bubble extending all the way right now down to St Augustine’s at 3892 just two Heats of our relay While most of our individual events featuring three Heats qualifying for the finals just two Heats here so we are qualifying fin andak Valley 12 teams down to eight for the finals tomorrow so the preliminary is also a chance for the teams to gauge each other and know exactly who the strengths are of course coaches will have the opportunity to play a little chess tomorrow and maybe mix up the order a little bit or even substitute a different name coaches can add six names to the relay cards and then each time they are up they can figure out the order and the actual four of those six athletes that they want to run on the track so competing in Heat number two we’ll see Northwest Missouri State in lane two Mississippi College in three Lenor Ryan will be in lane four Academy of Art in Lane five Harding will be in Lane six Claflin in Lane seven and Ashland in eight so as we look at the teams that will possibly be competing for the team title in this last race the 4×400 meter relay we don’t see West Texas A&M we don’t see Windgate we don’t see Missouri Southern Harding is currently in fourth they are in this race Grand Valley State is in this race isua Pacific is not in this race wasburn is not and Pittsburgh state are defending two-time defending Champions they’re in eighth place right now but of course they are in this race so if we do come down to the final event tomorrow to declare a team champion some of the teams who are currently at the top of the standings will not be able to pick up any points in this 4×400 met relay while we would have Harding Grand Valley State and pit State lurking with the possibility to pick up those big 10 points Advantage at the end of the meet like to remind everybody that central time tomorrow the competition gets underway at 10:30 with our men’s javelin final the women will start at 11:00 a.m. with the shot put we’ll have field events throughout the morning and early afternoon we’ll be with you here on the live stream broadcast beginning at 1:45 the women’s high jump competition beginning at 1:45 the first event on the track will have coverage for you will be at 2:00 it’ll be the men’s 4X 100 m relay and the women’s obvious will obvious ly follow we’ll have some field events early in the afternoon tomorrow but those field events ought to be concluded by around 3 or 4:00 we’ll continue with all of our finals all the way up through our 4×400 meter relays the men are scheduled for a 550 start tomorrow evening and our team awards at 6:15 and that of course is all Central Time on the track now here we go the gun has fired it’s Northwest Missouri Mississippi College Leno Ry Academy of Art Harding Claflin and [Music] Ashland okay not much too not too much thinking can be done in this race these first legs they just do have to run as fast as they can you can see the fine difference of just maybe a second or two being the difference between making the finals or not but the teams are in the lead at the final lap can maybe relax just a little bit and if you have taken the strategy of having your fastest runner as your anchor that mental ability to relax down the home stretch or even if you have other events that you are competing in just that little bit of letting up down the Finish Line sometimes is mentally helpful many coaches and fans will obviously tell you never let up on the Finish Line you don’t want to pass up a chance or an opportunity of any type but sometimes when you know that you are just running a qualifying race that mental relaxation is just as important as the physical so as they C off the curve here that is Claflin in the lead but a very late surge there by Harding and a little confusion as Harding has to find his Third Leg Runner and we do see yellow we see a yellow flag at the exchange zone so that could definitely be an issue for one of these teams didn’t see exactly what happened but I think it was Harding that went from Lane one out to Lane four at the exchange and if they interfered with somebody that could be the reason that yellow flag has gone up doesn’t mean there will be a disqualification it just means that the official has seen something that they are going to question but I think we do know that Claflin here they were out front so they were not interfering with anybody they will be the leader as they head into this anchor leg it’s going to be Claflin with the lead three across chasing for that second spot and you can see on the backstretch again that is Harding with a fantastic run he’s going to move all the way up from fifth into second so Harding fans out there we’re going to definitely hope that that flag yellow flag on the first exchange is not going to be to your detriment but look at this this is Miss this is Northwest Missouri State Northwest Missouri State is going to come out of nowhere along with Mississippi College so I don’t know if they were playing posum or they have the fastest anchor legs but it is Northwest Missouri State and Mississippi College who are actually taking the two qualifying times they were running dead last on the track for the first three legs 4558 for Truman hair of Northwest Missouri 4639 now that was pit State second leg there for Mississippi College 45 80 so two sub 46 400 met splits for Northwest Missouri and Mississippi College are going to get those two schools in and it looks like our teams that are qualifying by time will be the Academy of Art Harding Fresno Pacific and Leno Ry of course we do know that these results are unofficial we did see that yellow flag go up so the officials will confer and they have be a disqualification at all in that second heat the women will be up next and they are making their way down onto the track so we’ll go ahead and stay here give you a little bit of a recap with what’s happened today so far in our competition and where we are at with our three-day championships we did finish our multi-events earlier today the decathlon and the heptathlon with some fantastic performances and two qualifications marks that hopefully we’ll see both of those athletes into their Olympic trials we did have two more throwing events the both the men’s and women’s discus throw for final competition today our men’s high jump and our women’s triple jump have all concluded and if you are with us this evening you did see those steeple chase competitions so for the men seven of our 21 events are complete and we just ran through those scores a few minutes ago for the women eight of the 21 events are complete and it is Pittsburgh state patting their lead they have 52 points so they are well out right now over Adam state with 24 and that does include Adam State going first and second in that steeple chase so those 18 points will help Vault Adam State into second place they were our indoor Champions this year so we know that the Grizzlies are always in contention it is the pit State men who are the two-time defending Champions so the women trying to equalize that and they are now in the lead Grand Valley State is currently third on the women’s side with 23 and a half isza Pacific has 16 sagov Valley has 14 and many of those points are behind their [Music] heptathletes and as you look at the award stand there you see what we just talked about the aforementioned women’s steeple chase competition and the green on green of Adam state in the middle of the track there as they did capture gold and silver and we do have our Awards presentation right now for the women’s steeple chase in eighth place was Ela Davis of Western Washington Seventh Place went to Anna igon of Slippery Rock sixth place to McKenna Kavanaugh of Lee Tennessee fifth place to Alexa Kaiser of Sagen Valley fourth place to cathina gutel of Academy of Art and our top three medalists the bronze going to Marissa Di Tre from Chico State the silver medalist to Ava oconor from Adam State she ran 10807 today and if you watch that race with us Gracie Hyde just took off like a shot out of a cannon at the opening gun and she led from wire to wire Gracie Hyde running 936 95 that’s a meat record for Gracie Hyde the senior from Adam State and more importantly 18 team points there for the Grizzlies and you can see the first heat of our women setting their blocks they’re going to get their full recovery time most of these athletes have been competing in other events today so that race is going to start in just about five minutes same rules for the women today W’s going to have two Heats and they will qualify the top two in each heat plus the next four fastest times actually as I look at the schedule now we have three Heats of the women so that could have been because there were some ties in the qualification system the qualification system for the NCA division 2 is a bit unique in that it is not the same for every event and that is something that the Committees are working on and will be changed down in the future as you know division one has separate preliminary competitions at two different sites bringing athletes from the East and the West together for a one section final and that is occurring this weekend with events in both Arkansas and Kentucky NCA division 2 just a little bit different some some events we do just have 18 qualifiers but in the relays a little bit different from the individual events and in our women’s 4×400 meter relay we are going to have three Heats so that means the top two get in still but just the next two fastest times so more important to be first or second in your heat and as they are all set and standing next to their blocks the starters will stall for maybe just a minute or two they don’t want to start any races early and we hope that’s for some of you watching your athletes in this race and if you are desperately trying to get in on time for a 810 start we’re going to wait till 810 and start that race for you we are going to have three Heats and our first heat on the inside in lane two it’ll be Lincoln that’s out of Jefferson City Missouri Lincoln a perennial relay favorite in Lane three will be Finley in lane four Angelo State in five The Academy of Art in six Southwest Baptist and in seven Minnesota state and as the athletes are listed on the relay cards we will let you know just who is scheduled to be running for Minnesota state and it looks like we will have lofstead Lane Kramer and Schmidt for Minnesota state for Southwest bapta scheduled to be running ardan Lord Dixon and Hicks for the Academy of Art tonyan Lindsay the leadoff leg followed by cornette henich and James Angelo State featuring m Daniel Cabo fresh and Finley Finley will counter with Ray Taylor Ellis and ivory and on the inside again that is Lincoln Missouri they are scheduled to run with Clark Giddings Thomas Nanton and George so you can see on the track there the starters are just rigging up their sound system for this final race of the evening it is very important for the athletes to hear all the commands and with some starters sometimes voic is just a bit lower and without the amplification system we’ll get an athlete who may not hear the start commands it’s very important that they all take their marks at the same time that they do all come set together so that we can get a clean start for everybody we’ve seen a bit of a change over the last few years in the mechanics of these starters we will now have our assistant starters lined up and checking the finger placement and the hand placement for the athletes and they will then walk out and once they get set we will have a clean start but you can see it looks like there may be some issue with the sound system or again they may just be stalling for us all so that we can start this race on time at 8 to10 all right I’ll see you tomorrow yes sir again tomorrow morning we are going to begin bright and early at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s javelin the women’s shot put at 11 our coverage begins after the national anthem which is scheduled at 1:40 so you may get to see a bit of the women’s high jump competition getting underway at 1:45 maybe the conclusion of our men’s triple jump our men’s pval competition first running event in the afternoon tomorrow is at 2 p.m. central Time we’ll begin with the 4 by100 meter relay that day will continue with finals in all events after the 4X ones we will have the 1500s the 110 and 100 meter hurdles the 400s the 100s the 800 finals the 400 met hurdle finals the 200 the 5,000 m will be the the penultimate races for both the men and the women and then of course we’ll conclude with the 4×400 meter relays we know the men’s teams who have qualified and we are awaiting our first heat here of the women’s 4×400 meter relay and then of course we will know the finalist for that race scheduled for 6:00 tomorrow evening our team Awards scheduled for a 6:15 start and then of course we’ll wish everybody good luck the teams that that have their Seasons done will of course go into their offseason routine and conditioning and get ready for whatever is next many of our athletes hopefully advancing to postseason competition the USA track and field championships and Olympic trials scheduled to be held June 21st through June 30th those will be in Eugene as usual some athletes here hoping to qualify for the under 20 championships those will also be in Eugene they’ll be the week before June 12th and 13th many of our International athletes have Olympic trials at different times in their respective countries some have already made their teams some will have a trial and then of course the Olympics this year the Olympics overall begin on July 24th the track and field portion the Olympic Athletics comp competition August 1st through 11th and obviously we’d like to wish good luck to any athlete who is able to continue their season representing their country but on the track now we are ready to go the gun is up for this women’s 4 by 400 meter relay Lincoln Finley Angelo State Academy of Art Southwest Baptist in Minnesota state and we are underway the first of three Heats so the top two were in just the next two fastest times fastest qualifying time in this heat we look to the middle of the track both Angelo State an Academy of Art this year running 33836 and again they probably won’t need to run that today in the preliminaries but as always the end of the season at the end of the meet at the end of the day a lot of recovery left for any athlete so no excuses for leaving it out there on the track three curve stagger so we won’t know exactly who the leader is until they break at the backside but that looks like Finley and Angelo State will make the batons exchanges first on the inside of the [Music] track and Southwest Baptist on the outside in Lane six but Angelo State on the inside in the yellow they’re going to be the leader at the break and moving up is Lincoln in the white wearing HIP number two and they are sandwiching Southwest Baptist in the purple so off the curve they come Angelo State Lincoln and Southwest Baptist [Applause] and Angelo State will hand off at 146 to the third leg Runner you can make up so much time in this race in the last five to 10 yards of a leg and the first five to 10 yards of the outgoing leg that is where this race can be won or lost because even if your athletes running a similar 400 met split that timed through the exchange and just after can make all the difference in the world Angelo State and Lincoln continuing to lead as they come off the curve for this third leg and as they make the exchange they will be the two trying to hold on but if you remember that last Heat of the men it was the two in the back that ran the fastest splits and ended up finishing first and second but it is Lincoln and Angelo State at the exchange top two are automatically in next two fastest times will qualify so you can be no slower than fourth in a heat if you want any chance to survive Angelo State now back in contention side by side Angelo State and Lincoln again they are clear they may not know it but these two teams would both advance so you do not have to win this race other than maybe getting a better line assignment Lane assignment for the finals tomorrow they are going to go side by side and it is going to be a photo finish but Lincoln and Angelo State will be in and and then moving up into third possession and holding that first of the two automatic qualifying that’s going to be Finley running 339 Minnesota state will not advance so we know that we will not see Denisha cartright in the finals of the 4×400 tomorrow but Finley and the Academy of Art will be on the bubble for the next two Heats on the track Lincoln is going to get the win same time although it looks like now Lincoln is going to get 33513 Angelo State 33514 so Lincoln with the better lean at the finish line but both teams automatically advancing to the finals you can see there the toll these athletes we talked about not needing to run all out if they knew they were going to be in the top two but you can tell that to that Lincoln Runner there right now she gave it all that she had to give and we just hope that recovery will be strong enough so that she can do it all again tomorrow evening less than 24 hours our women’s 4×4 scheduled for a 600 p.m. start there you see our second Heat starting to line up on the track the third and fourth legs going to the side of the street track getting their instruction from the officials second leg on the track looking for their exchange Zone knowing that they are told they have to run their first curve in their Lane and there you see our lead legs setting their blocks on the Stagger second heat we are scheduled to see Ashland in three West Texas in four Pittsburgh state in five Fresno Pacific in six and isua Pacific in Lane seven unlike the men all the teams in contention look like they have 4×400 meter relay teams in fact we do see Pittsburgh state Adams State Grand Valley State isua Pacific all with relay teams here hoping to make the finals again nothing more exciting in a championship event if the team scoring does come down to the final events of the day tomorrow it would be the 5,000 m we know that Adam State generally with more than one athlete in the finals of any distance race so that would be strong for the Grizzlies Pittsburgh stayed our early leader but of course we’ll just have to see how it all plays out just eight of the 21 events officially scored as finals now which means we still have 13 different events to be contested tomorrow and that is a lot of points again Ashland West Texas pit State Fresno Pacific and isua Pacific we are ready for the second heat of our women’s 4×400 and the gun is up [Music] [Applause] and there is the gun Ashland West Texas A&M Pittsburgh state Fresno State Fresno Pacific and isua [Music] [Applause] Pacific and off the curve our leader is going to be on the outside here that is fr no Pacific and isua Pacific and again we can’t clearly get the accuracy of the leader as the next leg will run the curve in their Lane but also again at the end and beginning of each exchange we can see so much difference Lane five Pittsburgh state there as that first leg slows down they quickly drop to the back but you can see now on the backstretch the second leg runner for pit State clearly Back In Contention and a little space there on the inside and just like that she is now third on the track we’ll see if that holds up at the end of the leg they all know they’re running for the first two spots and as they come off the curve that is going to be Fresno Pacific azuza is second and pit state has now moved into third but she is starting to pay for that early burst of energy but pit state will hold on and still be in third at the Midway point on the race so this is when you start to see a little more strategy a little more thinking coaches are watching the race they’re letting the athletes know what they need to do and again you don’t need to catch the person who’s in the lead you just need to catch the person who is in second Ashland now making a little move from Fifth Place back up into fourth place but Fresno Pacific continuing to lead isua hanging on to Second pit state is in third so they want to guarantee themselves a spot they are going to need to have a fast 400 meter leg running anchor Ashland now back up into contention and it is West Texas A&M at the back of the pack they’re going to need a fast leg to try and qualify by [Music] time again with three Heats we won’t know exactly what the safe time is until the end of the third heat but it is is now both Fresno and isua Pacific running side by side they’re going to hope to finish first and second pit state is closing and they may be three across before we get to the Finish Line who saved enough going down the stretch Fresno Pacific isua Pacific now into the lead Here Comes pit state [Music] [Applause] and you like to see that from a veteran Runner that pit State anchor she knew that if she gets second place that is going to guarantee her a spot you can see her teammates they know as well they wanted to be in the finals they want to give themselves the opportunity to get a team placing there you see the times isua Pacific 33856 Pittsburgh state 7 9 Fresno Pacific they’ll hold on for third so they’ll have that 33888 and currently that is the fastest non top two time the fastest third place time so Fresno Pacific and Finley right now on the bubble at 33888 and 3 3994 so that’ll be the team you’re going to have to to guarantee yourself a spot in in the finals and you see the teams now in this final heat on the track today we are scheduled to see Adam State and they are out there in the green on green Northwest Missouri State they are also green all solid dark green California State University San Bernardino will be rning out of lane four sagov Valley in five UT Tyler in six and calply Pomona in Lane 7even this will be the final race of day two of our NCA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we thank you if you’ve been watching with us all along if you have just checked in for the 4x4s to see if your team qualifies again you can go to the NCAA web page go to track and field make sure you click on the division 2 Tab and then you can find the link that takes you to live results and if you are in live results you can see exactly what we see here in the Press Box you can see the splits for each athlete you can see the times and you will know just about immediately after the race whether your team has advanced to the finals or not still a beautiful day here in Emporia the sun still setting you can see that the track is in Shadow but the buildings and trees across the way still with a little bit of sunshine on the top it is still a very warm 72° I wouldn’t say that the humidity is at zero but not strong humidity yet this summer the athletes very comfortable the forecast for tomorrow is also pretty good expected with a high of 84 tomorrow so not too much difference expected could be a few storms rolling in towards the end of the day but no severe weather is expected and nothing more than a slight chance of rain towards the end of the meet looks like the heavy storms won’t come in until about 8:00 tomorrow evening so we should be clear before we get any weather tomorrow the gun is up this is the final heat of day two and again we’re looking at Adam State Northwest Missouri State California State University San Bernardino sagov Valley UT Tyler and Cal Poly pona and a clean start and again as you think about the teams that want to be make sure they are in the finals Adam state currently second overall they were the indoor winner they would like to make sure they have a chance to pick up those 10 points in the finals the rest of the teams in this field looking to maybe be in the top 10 but not necessarily expected to be in conten for the team title so maybe that does put a little more pressure on Adam state but every single woman in this race wants to run tomorrow in the finals for some this may be their last race of their season or their career and they would much rather do that tomorrow at the exchange that is Lane three that’s Northwest Missouri State they will be our leaders at the break Adam state making a move on the inside and then on the outside that’s Cal Poly Pomona moving into that third position so the field split we’ve got three in the front and three in the back we’ll see if they help each other around again the times to beat the bubble time so to speak is 339 94 so Finley nervously watching from the infield there and hoping that this heat is not quite as fast as the other two calply Pomona will be second at the exchange Adam State starting to slow down just a little bit as the field comes back to her but it is Northwest Missouri State with a huge lead they did have the fastest qualifying time in this heat Northwest Missouri running 33 778 this season and only Cal State San Bernardino with a time under 340 so as our third leg comes off the curve for the final time we’ve got Northwest Missouri and everyone else right now Adam State making a strong push to get back into second place Cal Poly Pomona still in the thick of things and that is UT Tyler who has moved up into fourth position but Adams will be in second at the break doesn’t look like anybody is going to catch Northwest Missouri so the anchor leg there she has a decision they’ve run a fantastic race if she keeps up the full Pace the whole time we’ll see if they can get a season best or a time they’re happy with but she may start to slow it down just a little bit as she comes around the curve on the back they’re still chasing and right now this is Adam State holding on UT Tyler challenging for that second spot and calply Pomona still there and now Adam State starting to falter off the curve but to take nothing away from Northwest Missouri State Northwest Missouri State is going to win this and they are going to win it in style that is going to be a season best time for them 33687 a photo F finish for second and third Adams is going to be fourth and they may be out calply Pomona is going to finish second they’re going to get the auto qualifier to make the finals so for the Grizzlies to make a run at the team title they’re going to have to do it with out with knowing that they have no chance at getting 10 points in the fin final race of the day so our two team qualifiers are going to be Fresno Pacific and Finley the 339 94 of Finley will hold up and they will join our heat winners and second place finishers in the final tomorrow again that final is will pick up that second automatic spot let’s take a quick break so we’re going to take a quick break on
