Ru we saw some football Dave Dave had a big smile on his face all day yesterday it was H it was a mini camp day an OTA day uh actually and uh it was great it was great being out there it was a little warm a little on the warm side but it was uh um you know for for a practice in may we we learned some stuff and it was uh where guys are lining up and how they were how they were uh looking on the depth chart and it’s a it’s a good early start to the looking ahead to the season yeah a little training camp practice uh for us really getting out there and remembering what it’s like to observe and and take notes and talk about it that’s what we’re going to do today on the eagle ey podcast presented by Nissan Ruben Frank Dave zangaro we finally got to see some football it was the second OTA session of six in total for the Eagles we don’t get to go to everyone so uh that’s something to keep in mind and then after the practice we spoke with four players at press conferences so after the break we’ll talk about what we learned from those guys but let’s let’s talk about practice R yeah let’s dive in Dave does uh OBS after each practice and they’re um it’s it’s great and I don’t think anybody else is writing the uh the third team o line uh how how they’re lining up um I think that might be the only reference in Philadelphia media history to Lake in valaki valaki right so I think VY vaky um so if you want if you want exhaustive observations uh and deep depth chart notes which I think a lot of people really enjoy uh check out Dave’s OBS well thank you that’s very nice of you it’s fun I I enjoy it I wish we were there for every otaa practice because not only like selfishly do I like covering it but I think it gives us a fuller scope of what’s actually happening and that’s kind of one of the big caveat here is that we’re only at one out of the first three practices and one out of the next three so uh we’re not seeing everything uh but we can tell you what we did see yeah and it could be that this is the one day where they’re going to try well let’s look at him over here and the other days they don’t so we don’t know that um but yeah we do get certainly a bigger glimpse of how how things look than we would if we weren’t there sure you want to just go through let’s start with attendance and look this is a voluntary uh OTA uh everything is voluntary up until the mandatory Camp June 4th to June 6th but Eagles have had good attendance and they had good attendance on this day yeah and it’s totally normal to have veterans not there for a day for a couple days um there’s nothing nothing unusual about it it’s not a negative um guys have things to do they have their kids games and and ballet rehearsals ballet performances like uh Carrie Williams had es scones being delivered um so it’s and in a way it’s good because you get to see guys maybe working with the ones who wouldn’t uh who wouldn’t otherwise so um it’s not a negative it’s just kind of you you’re not going to have everybody there um every day yeah and it’s also important to note who wasn’t there because that certainly changes the conversation around the depth chart and like who was out there running with the ones especially with some of these guys so it’s important to note uh so here are the guys who were not at the practice for whatever reason laye Johnson not a surprise there Devonte Smith I don’t think you have to worry about him Josh SWAT he’s a veteran coming off a a bad end of his season last year but he’s been doing this for a long time after that I guess there’re a little questionable James Bradberry not there let’s take a pause there and talk about that one a little bit what did you make of him not being there yeah it was probably a little surprising if you’re James Bradbury you you might want to do everything you can to especially with these two young Corners coming in to to hold your ground um it could be more than that um slay kind of seemed to reference that he had been at uh he had been there um but I wasn’t really clear on on whether he practiced or not um earlier um but it was a little surprising to me that Bradbury wasn’t there and if you know if he’s not there next week when we’re down there then start to wonder what’s happening I wasn’t too surprised I think this might be like a it’s probably best for both sides if we’re going to move on at some point to just you know why why come to well a vol practice yeah and that’s that falls into the do we have enough to kind of decide whether that’s what’s happening here um we don’t but me slay was asked if if Bradbury had been there and he kind of he he didn’t either he didn’t hear the question he didn’t really answer it um but yeah like if he’s there today and we won’t know that you know then then I mean but I I do kind of sense what you’re saying and I kind of feel like that’s the case I think there’s a a pretty good chance that that decision’s already been made that look we’re going to try to move you so it’s not going to benefit anyone for you to be there but I don’t know that that’s the case but it kind of seems that way yeah and we’ll find out more will be at one practice next week and then the following week is the mandatory camp and that’s where things really get interesting if he’s not there uh because if it’s on if it’s his decision then you can start start to get fined at mandatory camp but I W with him like I kind of get the I get the feeling this might be worked out yeah yeah I agree and I mean I could see them look Bradbury’s not here it’s excused period and that’s all we were told but um I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we don’t see him again yeah uh the other guys who weren’t there uh key Ringo it’s voluntary but I’m sure for him it would make sense if it was some kind of an excuse used absence CJ uzama I’d like to see him out there on the field I think he has a good shot to be tight end to and then Jake Elliot wasn’t there the other two Specialists were but I guess if you’re not kicking that day it doesn’t really make sense to have Jake out there yeah I think he’ll be okay yeah I think so like it it is funny though to think about a kicker being like I’m not gonna and I’m sure it’s like coordinated with the team but it’s much funnier to me to think about a kicker be and like I’m not going to voluntary practices yeah he’s probably got you know a golf tournament to play and a tennis tournament maybe a pingpong tournament he’s got he’s got a lot of other other things going on one of my favorite uh specialist stories that I can remember was it was one year where Doran boss was like firmly entrenched in in the Long Snapper job and they brought in some poor kid to compete with him really just to take some of the work off his shoulders in training camp and uh it was after a training camp practice and I look over and dorm boss is like signing and taking photos with fans he’s doing magic like he he’s having a blast I look over and this poor kid is long snapping into the goalpost like with a bag of balls next to him and then he happened to glance over and see dorm boss and I think it was that moment he realized that he didn’t have much of a shot yeah dor BOS he he got the most out of practice um he was great to watch during those open practices at the link um you know I mean he would you’d never see him on the field he was just he was like long snapping balls into the upper deck and you know he was like shooting t-shirts with that t-shirt rocket gun out there and he was in the stands taking photos uh but yeah when it when it came time to actually long snap he was he was as good as anyone he was all right uh a few injuries to note in this one Sydney Brown was out there uh he did some work on a side field before practice and then uh it was kind of fun to watch him during practice ractice he wasn’t participating but he was standing about 40 yards behind the play just going through mental reps like he was very into it yeah and we were standing there I think um when he ran onto the field and I mean that that got my attention he looked fluid he looked fast he ran from the double doors where the players come out um I wouldn’t say he was sprinting but he was running at a pretty good clip all the way across that field um so and I mean he looked great you know I don’t want to get carried away but um I was like I was doing the you know the math in my head thinking man maybe by opening day I mean if he can if he can be back like by even if it’s not to be getting a training camp a couple weeks in he’s got a chance to play and they could certainly use him I I mean I looked at you when he ran by us and I was like oh my God he looks incredible and again it’s just running there’s a lot more to to to do but I mean he didn’t have any kind of brace on that I noticed he had a sleeve on that leg he had a sleeve yeah but um thought he looked great yeah and he I remember like cleanout day he told me my plan is to be back by training camp and I was like uh I don’t know about that man and I still don’t know about that but it seems like he is progressing quite nicely yeah certainly better to see him like that than you know walking out on the field or or limping out there I mean you know you can tell a lot by the way a guy runs and just is he favoring anything is he uh you know is it his normal gate his normal stride and I thought he looked fluid and fast and and certainly on the right track yeah we saw him just kind of jog in a straight line though didn’t see any lateral movement which um is the big step after that yeah we also have what three and a half months till opening day and I’m a little feeling a little better about his chances um you know than I did before I saw him sure uh a few guys were practicing but not full participants Zach mcferson coming back from that Achilles nocoe Dean coming back from the foot injury uh anas Smith who had the stress fracture discovered at the combine really I was hoping to see him uh be a full go he was not so those three uh were not full participants they were doing a little bit they did some individual then Eli Ricks early in the session looked like he got hurt don’t know exactly what it was but he came back out without a helmet uh so when we talk about the cornerback depth chart in a little bit he wasn’t there either yeah it was very early I mean I think it was before they did any seven on sevens I think it right the very first few individuals so uh yeah we’ll see um it didn’t look super serious he was walking on his own and went into the medical tent could have been a little twinged a little hammy um but we’ll see yeahh all right let’s talk about some depth chart stuff and we’ll start with offense and then we’ll go to defense no Lane Johnson for this practice but McKai beckon out there at right tackle and it’s only seven on sevens on the one field so we’re watching uh the o line specific drills but it was it was mikai beckon at right tackle and then the second team left tackle was Fred Johnson yeah and we I think was uh it was right around the same time we were standing standing there and uh you just said man he’s big and I I I knew exactly who you’re talking about because yeah beckon is uh he’s a beast I mean he’s a huge dude and uh he’s it’s the first time we’ve had a chance to to see him I guess we saw him at joint practices but certainly weren’t looking looking for him up at uh Floren Park but he’s he’s huge and uh yeah it was good to see him out there it’s an interesting pickup and um yeah I mean he’s he’s going to be well I mean we’ll see what happens with left tackle but I would kind of think he’s going to be backing up both yeah I I think that’s probably fair and it it’s it was intriguing to me to see him a right tackle because earlier in his career that was kind of a thing is that he was a a left tackle only but when you look at this team and you have 33y old Lane Johnson you know I I think there’s a good chance that he’s gonna miss some time this year so uh getting beckon ready to play that side is important and in a way like you talked about sometimes it’s a good thing if a veteran’s not there at OTAs like this could be one of those moments because you’re getting uh McKai beckon some reps out there because they might need him to play that position a little bit this year yeah and that’s kind of who I was thinking about when I said that I mean I think it’s you know Lane certainly doesn’t need to work and beckton does so um you know he gets to work next to the guy who I don’t want to say likely but I guess is most likely to be uh the Right Guard and Tyler Steen and they get to get some reps together yeah we I we should mention that even though we expected that Tyler Steen was working with the first team at Right Guard uh from left to right it was Mila Landon Dickerson cam Jurgens Tyler Steen McKai beckon what do you think of about this right guard position do you think it’s just Tyler Steen until you know if it if it’s Tyler Steen great and if he slips up then they finally make a move I don’t think this is a true competition I don’t either and I think the fact that they brought him into talk to us you can always tell like you one of the pr guys and I don’t know this but I’m guessing that they’re like hey Stout you know we we’re thinking of bringing Tyler Steen in um you know is he is he you know is he kind of in the lead for that Right Guard and like oh yeah yeah and they wouldn’t bring him in if there was I just think that’s how they that’s how they do things they wouldn’t bring him in on the first day to talk to us if the plan was it could be part of building up his confidence and making him think like he’s the guy which is a big part of the battle but we did talk to him and we’ll get to that but um I think he’s the Right Guard unless he he really struggles yeah and I think it’s also important to note that Matt Hennessy was the second team Right Guard so if there is someone who’s going to challenge him for that job I think Hennessy is the guy who makes sense yeah and I thought it was notable that he was and look like we mentioned that this could change tomorrow we’re not there but uh having him as a second string Right Guard instead of second string Center even though he’s probably the backup at multiple spots on the interior it makes me think that if there’s any Tyler Steen slip up Matt Hennessy is the guy yeah because he hasn’t really played Right Guard so get him as many reps at right he’s played center and left guard so get him as many reps as you can at Right Guard he he needs them more than he needs the Reps anywhere else so it kind of makes sense uh and then we should mention Trevor Keegan was third team left guard played primarily guard in college and played primarily left guard in college so they’re starting him out at the familiar positions even though he’s talked about being able to play pretty much anywhere in the interior they’re starting him out third team left guard and third team Center is Dylan mcmah and this we saw this all day and this is kind of a serani thing especially early he’s not going to put rookies out there with the first team he’s just they’re just not gonna do it yeah and Brett to was the second team Center um which to be honest with you I’ve seen enough a Brett to at Center last summer yeah I mean he’s not going to be the second team Center but that just goes into you know I mean at some point we’ll see the the rookies move up into or at least one of them to move up to second team Center but that’s they’re going to put the veteran out there with the second team uh rest of the offensive depth chart no uh no Devonte Smith so it was AJ Brown it was uh Joseph andada and Paris Campbell and it to me like even though we know the names they have on the roster a receiver seeing them out there without Devonte Smith is like a little wakeup call that like uh oh this isn’t great yeah that was my takeaway as well and I lik Nagata and he was one of the guys we talked about I thought he was kind of the best out of that second group or or or whatever you want to call him um but I I still think that their their third wide receiver is someone who’s not here yet just especially with Devonte Parker retiring I thought that before he retired so yeah um I think they need to get better there um I’m not going to draw any conclusions from one one little OTA practice but I I just don’t think they have enough there if they really do lose an AJ or Devonte for a week or a couple weeks I just don’t like what they have yeah and that was the appeal of Devonte par Parker just in terms of right now he’s probably he would probably be their third best receiver yeah you know and you’re just missing that and I thought it was notable how much we saw AJ Brown work from the slot in this practice and that could have all like you could have used Devonte Parker he could have been the outside receiver you have AJ inside that’s kind of natural because I do think using AJ Brown inside this year and Devonte Smith inside is is GNA be a big part of this offense yeah agree and they just don’t have that guy to put outside when when one of those guys goes inside so U look maybe maybe Joseph Nagata can can win win a spot or um Paris Campbell but I just I don’t expect that to happen we saw Britain Coy catch a go route yeah he got some work out there on offense he catches it he’s fast yeah hey I like I maybe at some point they’ll give him a chance to actually move up the depth chart a little bit at receiver I’m skeptical of that but it could happen at some point and an nias Smith was not practicing either so you know right right it would be interesting to see where he fits in in that equation I look at Brit yeah I I look at Britain Cy is a guy who like in year five will find out he’s a pretty good receiver there’s like a TJ McConnell of of the Eagles okay I don’t know uh defensive depth chart kind of surprising to me and I still don’t know if I really get it but without noobe Dean it was Zack bon in there at linebacker next to Devon white with the first team that was a little surprising um yeah I thought I mean I guess again you’re going with experience there um over a you know I I thought even a guy like Brandon Smith or Ben Van sueran Well I have Orin Burks who’s the veteran or Orin Burks he was with the second team um but yeah I did not expect um I did not expect Zack bond to be out there but again it could be a deal where they’re just going to be rotating guys on different days and we don’t know that but it was a little surprising well the surprising thing to me and it shouldn’t be because when we asked Vic fangio about linebacker the first name he mentioned was Zack Bon but it’s still like when they signed Zack Bon the whole thing was that this guy has some juice off the edge as a rusher and it wasn’t until New Orleans let him play on the edge that we finally saw a spark from him like they tried to play him at off ball linebacker for three years and it didn’t work so he even comes here and he’s like yeah like he he was excited about getting a chance to rush the passer and now he’s just an off ball linebacker I I don’t get it and maybe Vic has obviously has some vision and and sees him being able to play off Ball but I don’t know like didn’t work in New Orleans you brought another guys to play off ball I thought he was goingon to have like a specific role in this defense kind of like the Andrew van GLE role from Miami last year and it it doesn’t seem like that’s the the plan right now yeah right now I mean he obviously has some sort of comfort level with with Zack Bond and um see something in him I I just can’t imagine that’s going to be a long-term thing I don’t know this feels like a very early version of Justin Evans to me where I’m like I don’t get it yeah and then they end up playing the guy yeah I mean that was different just BEC I mean I think Justin if you have a a healthy Justin Evans for 17 games he’s okay um you know he’s he’s physical and he’s around the ball but I mean to me that’s different just because that wasn’t really a positional thing it was just he’s always hurt he’s always hurt and he’s just not going to last um but yeah it it it does see it does seem like that but I mean well I mean we’ll see what happens hopefully noobe can get back out there I mean it’s he’s he’s been saying he’s close for quite a while so um be interesting to see what happens when he’s 100% I don’t know when that’ll be I don’t either uh it’s big year for noobe obvious obviously I mean it kind of running out of chances a little bit I I keep hearing all this stuff that like he he has this long like laundry list of injuries and it’s not really the case there are questions about his durability just because of his size and he had a few like pre-draft injuries but it wasn’t like he missed he was pretty durable at Georgia so I don’t think he ever missed a practice at Georgia he said yeah so you know I think that narrative is kind of gotten skewed a little bit but I mean certainly after last year I understand it yeah uh I mean guys do get hurt so he’s just got to prove that he’s not a guy that always gets hurt I I’m hoping he’ll be out on the field next week when we’re down there and certainly by by the June practices yeah I hope so uh it’d be good to see him and and see what he has physically like running around after pretty significant injuries last year yeah so and again just uh we didn’t talk to Nick yesterday so he wouldn’t answered these questions anyway about injuries it would just say guys getting better um I don’t know we probably won’t talk to Nick till the I would guess the June practices yeah I believe so yeah I think that’s the plan but yeah I mean we we you can learn as much from with your two eyes seeing what’s out there and what guys are doing so um yeah noob’s got to get back soon uh at cornerback slay on the left side they started off with Avante Maddox as the nickel and then on the right side this was a little bit of a surprise Isaiah Rogers yeah and I thought he looked pretty good I did too for not playing football for a year yeah um I was I gotta say I mean again you don’t want to get too carried away with one practice in May but the biggest surprise for me was Isaiah Rogers and just how comfortable he looked how how confident he looked um I mean he was really sticky in coverage uh he had a lot of he had a lot of energy which you would expect from a guy who hasn’t played for you know for 15 months um he was chatty he was uh he just really fit in uh I I really like what I saw from him yeah and look with with him with the first team I wouldn’t get too carried away with that because no Bradberry um no Eli Ricks no key Ringo uh and uh quinan Mitchell who we’ll talk about they’re just not going to put a rookie out there the second day of OTAs with the starters they just don’t do that so uh I wouldn’t make too much of the fact that he was with the first team but notable that he was above Josh job and maybe that was a side of the field thing for the most part like they kept their guys to the sides yesterday so it was like uh job was on the left and uh Rogers was on the right so maybe that played a role too but I thought you’re right like Rogers to me looked good didn’t look like a guy who hadn’t played football in a year yeah yeah I would agree agree with that and um I want to see more of them and yeah once all the corners are here or all the corners that are going to be here are here we’ll see how they line up um and I like I like key I thought he did some good things last year and even RX RX did some good things but um I was impressed with Rogers especially considering he hasn’t I mean not only did he not play like it’s not like he was hurt he was in the building and he was in meetings I mean he wasn’t even at the facility he was aw from the game from the time he was suspended until they he got cleared you know a few weeks ago so we haven’t talked to him yet I think we’re going to talk to him next week I think that’s the plan I can’t wait for that conversation because he’s been through he’s been through a lot over the last year yeah no question about that at safety CJ Gardner Johnson and Reed blankin ship no surprises there it was fun to see CJ in a full practice Yeah in spring because he got there so late uh back in uh 22 that like we didn’t have a full spring or full training camp with CJ and we know that he’s a talker but you get to see it throughout an entire practice yeah he doesn’t stop uh he’s fun he’s fun player to watch fun person to be around uh it’s good to have him back he’s gonna help so much yeah I think Soh all right so that was the the first team second team here’s where the rookies come in and and this is kind of what everyone wanted to see quinan Mitchell lined up at right cornerback Cooper already he lines up at first with the second team defense at nickel and then he ended up taking Snaps at outside cornerback with the third team yeah and and we saw a lot of that excuse me a lot of movement like that um Mitchell first I mean he he made some plays um I I like what I saw from him um I thought he really flashed and and didn’t back down I mean he’s out there on on some some uh you know I mean Devonte wasn’t there he was I I don’t I didn’t see him take any reps with AJ AJ was mostly working out of the slot in this pratice got a lot Jacob Harris yeah he did he did but just the way he moved and um you know just you didn’t see him again usual caveats but uh I thought he looked good I thought it was a good start for him uh he’s a really confident kid um very fluid the way he moves and runs um yeah I like what I saw yeah and and sometimes it’s tough to tell like how good a player is in these practices but sometimes you can tell how bad they are right like sometimes there are guys who just don’t look like they belong and he he looks like he belongs right he looks sure uh he looked comfortable out there he looked really comfortable in off coverage which is what he’s going to be doing most of anyway this year there was he had a nice pass breakup driving back on the ball he had one where uh his legs kind of got caught up it was a deep ball to Jacob Harris but it was an impressive play because he tracked the ball found it in the air uh was about to turn and make a break for it and just got tripped up but it it was an encouraging play because it shows him being able to find the football and then like have the ability to go attack it their legs got caught up it was a shame because I think he would have had a chance to make a play on the ball but I was impressed by what we saw in his first practice Yeah you can see what they like about him and the things he did at at Toledo he was again it’s the Mac but he was doing those things yesterday and he’s another one where you just want to you know your eyes just follow him during a play you just want to see him even if the ball’s not coming in his way he just kind of he draws your attention just by you know the way he’s moving and and and the confidence he’s playing with yeah Cooper deine didn’t get many uh targets his way if any I can’t really remember uh but he have a busy day because he’s working nickel playing outside cornerback and one of the two guys who they had Fielding punts in this practice yeah yeah and I didn’t see um I mean there’re just I mean he he caught the ball well I mean you can’t tell much from from from those looked smooth yeah he did he did look smooth he looked quick with the ball in his hands um we didn’t yeah we didn’t see a lot of didn’t see a lot of targets defensively I don’t remember any um that’ll come but yeah just the fact that they um feel confident enough in him to take a look at him uh in the slot and outside um which is something fangio said he wouldn’t you know he wanted to bring guys slowly and give him one position but the fact that I mean they’re comfortable enough with him and where he is uh to let him try different things tells you what they think of him yeah I thought it was impressive the first day for both of the rookie Corners yeah yeah I think they got something yeah early obviously there uh the other one on defense Ivon Maddox did get the first rep at nickel but then he he got some safety reps too so I think that’s obviously still part of his role even with the new defense and I think it makes lante a valuable player I don’t know how much you can rely on him given the injury history but if you feel good about the other options then I I think he’s valuable because of that versatility yeah we kind of thought we’d see him at safety it was good to see him there um wasn’t a whole lot but he looked fine um I think he knows that he you know at this point in his career um he’s got to he’s got to do as much as possible and make himself as valuable as possible um to to keep a job and it’s going to come down to whether he’s healthy but uh it was good to see him out there and looking healthy and he been through a lot physically over the last couple years um yeah they don’t have a lot of safeties either so we kind of figured we’d see them there yeah maai Gardner playing safety in this practice which is not surprising that’s probably just his position now they list him as a corner so we can still say they have 14 on the roster but I think he’s really just a safety at this point I would think so yeah we’ve always kind of looked at him as a safety yeah it was hard not to he’s a big guy now would you make a saquin getting our first Glimpse at him uh I I I think it was it was fun to watch him because he he’s he’s just a different type of of player than we’ve seen here yeah that’s for sure um I mean his legs are like tree trunks I he’s like he’s just like yeah physically he’s just a different kind of different kind of guy um caught the ball couple times that’s going to be a big part of his of his game here um took us a rep out of the slot he did yeah um yeah I mean you know we’re we’ll we’ll see we’ll see when things go live I I’m still not 100% comfortable that we’ll get the saquan of 2018 or 20122 I just don’t know excuse me I just don’t know I mean obviously he’s got better people around him when he talked about that you know getting in the Huddle yesterday and I guess Devonte was there yesterday he said you know you just you’re in the Huddle and there’s AJ Brown and Dallas God and Devonte Smith and Jaylen Herz and that that offensive line it’s like he never had that in East Rutherford I mean he never had anything close to that um so um I think just having better people around him is going to help him be the player he was in in his two big years um but I don’t know I mean running backs are are funny animal and you just never know you just never know when that decline is going to happen but it always happens and it always seems to happen when a GU you know 27 28 29 in there usually earlier than 29 so um it’s a risky move um it’s great to see him in in a Eagles uniform it’s still kind of weird uh seeing saquin in a Eagles uniform but uh you know we’ll see I I I just don’t know I don’t know either but I saw some athleticism on the field and a guy who moves very well for that size absolutely I I I don’t really remember seeing another back I know it’s just one practice but do you remember another back like him here who’s that big in moves like that maybe larrett didn’t move like that no but he was pretty good yeah um but he’s he’s the closest that I you know that I can um and look I don’t I’m not being negative I’m just saying I just don’t know I I just I don’t know what to think um just because of of what the history shows at that position and there’s a reason how he’s never made a move like this um which makes it even more interesting but there’s a reason he did yeah there is um I I think that I mean I really do think that having this o line and we don’t know exactly what this o line will be compared to previous years with Kelsey but having those weapons having that o line presumably uh upgraded coordinator I I think it’ll help him and I think he’ll be pretty good I just don’t know I just don’t know and we none of us do but it was it was fun seeing him out there and yeah he’s a I mean he’s a different kind of back than they’ve had and uh can’t wait to see him with the pads on yeah and he like he just looks so much bigger next to like Kenny gainwell it’s just funny that they play the same position that’s true can we talk about some physical makeups of guys because like seeing him it it really kind of hit me uh beckon obviously being next watching him stand next to Jordan Mila was funny because normally Milada just dwarfs everyone and that was not the case here even though milat’s like lower body like his legs are bigger than Beck right I thought Paris Campbell was Better Built than I expected unusual build yeah right like I was thinking in my head like because you hear Speedy slot and look I’ve seen him play but I haven’t really like taken it it’s different when you see him up close yeah I was kind of expecting like a quz Watkins like frame like kind of really slender but he wasn’t like he he’s the power comes from the legs with him yeah his legs are pretty solid and uh I was a little surprised as well just the the way he uh the way he looked um couldn’t tell much about him you know I mean uh he got a lot of snaps um caught a couple balls I don’t remember I thought he looked pretty good him and Isaiah Rogers had some good battles yeah I don’t remember any bat snaps for Paris so U was a good start um but apparently this is the thing with Paris Campbell like at his other stops he looks good in spring and summer and then the season comes and so I if there’s anything he can do in Spring and Summer to really convince everyone but you know you start to stack some good days and it’ll make you feel like maybe he can be a real contributor yeah yeah I’m not there yet but it was a good start yeah I don’t think any of us are there yet it was one spring practice for an hour and 10 minutes but uh jayx hunt look you’re not seeing much from these guys in seven on sevs other than the overhang guys dropping in coverage uh in one particular I was watching AJ Brown in the slot and lined up across from him was Brandon Graham and I was thinking this isn’t helping anyone right now what are we doing uh but jayx hunt and me and Barrett Brooks were standing next to each other and we both saw it at the same time we’re like man he’s got a high waist this kid’s all legs just an unusual build yeah yeah like that that praying mantis look yeah I mean his like just his his butt was like in the sky it unbelievable it was so high I don’t understand it yeah just BS in the sky yeah highwaisted I I might not have phrased it that way but yeah I wouldn’t have either if I could go back 10 seconds uh but yeah it was um yeah that was interesting his he he’s different looking guy yeah ni Smith by the way looked kind of tiny yeah and he is and maybe that’s just the because he’s around these Giants and he he didn’t get to do any team drills but something on my radar a little bit yeah he he did look small all right uh anything else from practice there there are a few good plays I thought uh Devin white in coverage on saquin down the field on that wheel route was pretty impressive yep yeah that was right right in front of us and he yeah he was right there there um Devon white looked fine for you’re laughing at Alex um I think you should read what Alex just messaged you well now I will have to because you brought it up uh he said making his butt was in the sky t-shirts yeah we should we should do that um but yeah he he looked fine he’s another guy who uh new guy we don’t really know about um but it was a good start for him and again a guy like that look he’s he’s started a ton of games in the league he’s going to look good in a in a mini camp uh but it was encouraging that it’s in a new defense with new players around him and he looked comfortable yeah and it was just really like that one play and it’s straight line speed which with Devon white that’s never been the question but still to carry saquin down the field it and he’s a big backer He’s listed to 37 I don’t know maybe he just looks bigger because the the other guys are so small but yeah looks bigger than that to me yeah you know what’s striking to me is obviously Fletcher wasn’t there Kelce wasn’t there Hassan reic wasn’t there you know these are guys that gosh made a total of what 14 pro bowls for this team um two alltimers and just the way it just keeps going you know there’s like everybody’s moved on I don’t think I mean I think Jaylen Carter was asked about Fletch but other than that um it’s really really interesting to me how you know players come and go but I mean it’s not nobody dwells on it like Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox weren’t on anyone’s mind during practice it it I don’t know if I’m making sense but it’s just just the way I’m making that t-shirt just the way things keep rolling on no matter what happens you know no matter how bad last year finished no matter who retires matter who gets who signs elsewhere or gets traded you come out in May and you know the sun is shining and Jaylen Herz is out there spinning it and um you know you still have a pretty good team and um the things that seem I mean sometimes some of the things that happened seem cataclysmic I mean what are they going to do without these guys um and we still don’t know the answer but um they have a good team they have a good roster and uh it’s just kind of it’s always been interesting to me to see how no matter what happens you know there’s still 90 players on the roster they still that you know they still prepare the same way and nobody dwells on who’s not there um it’s interesting to me yeah the alternative isn’t great yeah no it’s not but I think as you know I think as Outsiders fans media you know we we talk so much about who’s not there but um you know then they have all these new players and they’re all enthusiastic and they’re and they’re trash talking and and they’re having fun um and you move on and it’s just the nature of the of the business I did want to mention uh some offensive scheme stuff yeah that I was to be honest I was looking for it in this practice but they showed a little bit of motion a little bit which is you know I I think going to be a bigger part certainly of this offense than it has been uh we saw some like trips formations Bunch formations uh and that was like another kind of the motion stuff got so much attention with serani the lack of motion but I thought the the lack of um the lack of uh unusual sets wasn’t great either it was all just like 2 by two for the most part so seeing them in some trips uh seeing them with a little bit more bunch and and I I think that’s like a kellmore influence as well yeah I mean I think it was just it turned into a really static offense M and and one one little practice in May doesn’t you know doesn’t tell us a lot but just the fact that we saw I think we saw AJ in motion it was like wow you know look at that haven’t seen that in a while um and they did it I mean they did it occasionally uh previously but they did it to the lowest rate in the league but they still did it on occasion they still did it on occasion but I think you’re right right I think we’re going to see just a much more Dynamic uh offense when it comes to um sets and and pre- snap everything pre- snap um and I think we got a little taste of that yesterday yeah a few good plays I mentioned Devon white one I thought maybe the play of the day was Tanner mcke to EJ Jenkins the tight end yeah up the scam uh it was Trotter kind of trailing coverage nothing he could really do it was just it was a pretty pass from Tanner mcke who’s a third string quarterback yeah yeah picket made a couple nice throws too yeah I thought all the quarterbacks were good I I I thought picket was kind of slinging it out there a little bit I thought Jaylen had like a a quiet day but nothing to worry about there um I don’t know what do you make of the the the glove for Picket we know he’s got these tiny hands there’s just something aesthetically not pleasing to me about a quarterback wearing a glove on his throwing hand in in May yeah I knew that was going to bother you too whatever works for him it is kind of weird but works for him and I mean I thought he was he zipped it pretty good wasn’t it him on the last snap um yeah there was some controversy about this play was touchdown you think so I think so yeah it was right in front of us it was right in front of us so uh it was kind of a back shoulder throw to Kenny gainwell in the front left corner of the end zone tucked it right inside the pylon the defense was claiming that gainwell stepped out of bounds during the wasn’t even a route it was kind of a scramble drill they said he stepped out and did not uh did not get back in to establish himself before the catch which if he stepped out he probably did not reestablished yeah I don’t think he stepped out that’s the the question I and I I it was it was close and there was no refs so I don’t know we the refs touchdown gain well I heard someone yelling at John Ferrari to throw his hat no I thought it was I thought it was a good play and uh I thought it was a really good throw so um I’m sure it’s on film somewhere in the NovaCare complex yeah we’ll have to ask if if he was in there or not yeah yeah anything else what those are all like my observations from practice uh but anything else that stood out to you no I think we covered it all um I mean to me the the the big impact for me was was Isaiah Rogers I mean I he was to me he was I was really curious you know what would we see would we see a guy who’s passive who’s tentative uh after sitting out for a year and he did practice the day before it wasn’t his first practice but uh I I to me he jumped out at me he he’s the guy that and and there were a few of them but he’s um I thought that was really interesting but yeah if you were doing a stock up stock down on day one which would be sick yeah he he’d be a stock up he would I thought Paris Campbell too kind of stuck out to me uh got some expanded time out there obviously without Devonte Smith but uh he’d probably be out there anyway because right now he’s their third receiver but he looked fine to me yeah but like you said that’s never been the issue yeah we got a glimpse at the new coordinators we did both were in Kelly Green you like that I don’t know oh something big Fango in a in a hoodie I’m surprised that wasn’t your there was a lot of hoodies it was like 90 out there it was hot the equipment guys are wearing hoodies I don’t know sometimes I like a like a thin hoodie in the hot sun yeah keep the sun off you a little bit yeah yeah I’m fine with like a light long sleeve shirt on a on a really hot day Nick serani out there coaching up I saw him really good after Johnny Wilson on one yeah he’s he’s still the coach yeah and look and it’s like he’s still fiery you know right like there was big question about whether he’d be back but he was he was getting after it on day one or day two yeah and um I think he might have been a little fired up because the uh that judge ruled in in his favor did you follow that case about the I I read about it briefly I don’t know all the details yeah I’m not going to get into the Dil but he got good news as far as I guess a deposit on a house that he ended up not he and his wife ended up not buying in moristown when they first moved here so he had a little extra pride in a stride big legal Victory there we go and more make reservations at Morano’s Prime on open table we’re after practice we go in the auditorium we’re waiting they bring in four players for us to talk to we’ll just go in order tell me what you learned or what St stood out to you from each of them uh Jaylen Carter yeah um accountable um was disappointed in the way last year went um after the hot start and uh isn’t shying away from that um but you know it’s one thing to say it uh he he’s got to do it he’s got to be a more consistent player the guy’s the limit with that kid I mean he can be so good and he knows it um but it’s going to take you know a year round effort and um you know so so we’ll see with him but um he said all the right things yeah he talked about uh this off season for him was really about just conditioning conditioning conditioning he said there’s plenty of time for technique and they’ll certainly get there but that seems to be his goal this off season I think that’s a wise goal for him and his teammates on that defensive line one in particular so I think that’s a good start he and Jordan Davis I mean they’re best friends and they’re really facing the same thing on kind of different levels because I think Jaylen Carter is good enough to get away with he’ll still be a good player like if he’s not in Elite shape he’ll still be good functional He he’ll get you six sacks but I mean he can be great like he can and and I think to really maximize his potential he’s he’s clearly got to be in better shape not just at the start of the season but throughout the season and maintain it um Jordan Davis is is a little different because I think like if he’s not in great shape I don’t he’s just not very good you know where I think Jaylen Carter can get away with it and still be a good player I think Jordan Davis really it’s really imperative for him so they’re really in similar situations they seem to get it they understand it um but they’ve got to do it and they’ve got to maintain it and um they’ve got to push each other and and we’ll see how that goes but there’re certainly and we didn’t I think we were going to talk to Jordan they ran out of time but I’m sure we’ll talk to him soon but um I think they’re I mean they could both be really really good players and I think Jaylen Carter can be a an all pro I mean he has it in him to be an all pro first team um he’s just got to do the things it takes to get there yeah I mean heck he looked like it the first seven eight games of last year he was playing at that level I wouldn’t say seven or eight but yeah I would say maybe four five okay I thought he started to no I mean I think it was about a month and then he started to drop off a little bit I’m not being pedantic but um yeah I mean he the way the season started for him I mean it was I I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a rookie on either side of the ball play that well to start his career yeah uh he talked about Vic Fango a little bit seems to really like him I thought that was that was kind of fun he mentioned he’s like an old school coach but he gets along great with an old school coach yeah and I think I I I asked him about that what do you like about having an old school coach and he says you know I come from a town that’s an old school town is a little town and you know hard work is is uh is what it’s built on and um he likes getting coached hard and I I it was good to hear that I mean I I don’t really know um you never know and like we hear hear stories about some of the guys in Miami and it sounds like there were some guys who were a little on the soft side who didn’t like the way he coached um and you never know how that’s going to go with a with an old school guy like like Vic um some guys haven’t been pushed they haven’t been yelled at like that they’ve been coddled H but Jaylen Carter Embraces it that was good to hear yeah he Embraces it in May I think that’s also we’ll see after like you know 13 days of training camp yeah yeah but yeah I thought that was he made sure to let us know that he he really likes the the style so far yeah I like that it was good to hear that after that uh saquon Barkley uh you mentioned the the one I thought the most interesting thing he said was about just going into the Huddle looking around and and seeing all these great skill players with him it’s something he hasn’t had before no that’s got to be eye opening for him and um I mean in theory it should help him be a better player because the focus won’t be on stop and teams AR going to sit down and game plan for the Eagles say how do we stop saquan Barkley I mean with the Giants you did um with the Eagles it’s it’s always going to be AJ and then you know and then Devonte so um yeah it was now other than that there wasn’t a whole lot from him there’s not a lot for him to say been go quite a bit I’m sorry it’s been golfing quite a bit he’s been golfing that was pretty funny yeah he’s uh he talk about golf a lot who’s good who’s not good who who did he congratulate for just shooting just breaking under 100 for the breaking 100 for the first time Kenny picket who apparently just picked up the sport so yeah like yeah congratulations Ken he broke a hundred everyone was laughing he’s like no he’s just started yeah um I wanted to ask about Kenny gainwell and just that that Dynamic um you know Boston’s gone Rashad Penny’s gone um gell is the only running back the only running back who played last year who’s still here um I’m curious about his role how how significant or insignif insignificant will be and just what the relationship is there um there’ll be a chance for that but uh you know I’m a Kenny gainwell fan and I think there’s a role for him even with saquon getting you know probably 18 to 24 touches a game yeah I think there will be a role I think it’ll be a limited role but even uh we saw on the one play where saquin worked out of the slot gainwell was in the backfield so yeah a chance for some of those looks some 21 Personnel on on occasion certainly yeah I talked to slay we did which is always fun he really talked to us more than us talking to him I think that’s the way it goes uh I enjoy talking to that guy he’s a trip um he like there’s no off switch with him he’s just always funny um always entertaining like even if you don’t have any questions like you just ask him stuff just to get him talking like it’s it’s great he and you know he was pretty serious about the for him about the the young coers and his role in in helping them you know come along and learn to be pros and uh how how to handle just the transition from college to the NFL and it’s something he’s talked a lot about how the guys in Detroit helped him along with that when he was a young player and he sees it as a big part of his responsibility ility and he said Bradbery does too which which was interesting so um he’s big on that um he’s always been big on that he knows those guys are here to replace them he he he he made a little joke about that um and uh yeah it’s always it’s always great to hear from slay the uh yeah it has been cool hearing him just openly say that he’s not GNA play for much longer and he knows these guys are here to replace him and he’s fine with it like yeah he was even asked you know how much like how much longer you gonna do this and not many years left he’s a 33 year old quarterback yeah um he also said um he’s he still thinks he’s the fastest guy in the team at 33 he’s apparently been racing his teammates already and he said he hasn’t lost yet he didn’t tell us who he who he’d be who did he say wants to race him was it isai Rogers yeah I think I’ll take slay in that one and he the other the significant thing was he talked about how much he was hurting last year with that knee um I think he said he he got it I don’t know if he got scoped or I think he got scoped after the season well he got scoped during the season got scoped I think he got he got another procedure after the season I think he he he mentioned um yeah he did get it scope during the season that’s right but um he said it was really bad he said but you know I’m what he say well we’re a better team with me at 60% than anyone else which is probably true last year year maybe not this year um but he you know he was not healthy last year and probably played played pretty well considering what he was going through um but yeah he’s and he talked about look he’s got kids um he talked about his daughter what what is his daughter active in is it track track he’s a track dad now so I can’t believe he didn’t remember that appreciate that I thought you would have known her PRS already I do but I’m not going toore you with them in the 200 it’s 20 um yeah so it’s yeah it’s great to talk to slay but I mean there’s a chance this is his last year here yeah I’ll be honest I think slay has been underappreciated in this time in Philly I think that’s fair yeah um I think he’s up there in that conversation with with uh Eric Allen and Troy Vincent you know the the best one of the best corners in Eagles history I I really believe that and um I’m not sure why he’s not looked at that way yeah I mean he it’s it’s fair to say he hasn’t been like one of the best receivers in the league like there have been other guys who are better but I mean he he’s been really good and he’s the best corner we’ve seen here in a long time since Asante yeah yeah um I mean I think the thing that sets for me Eric Allen and Troy Vincent apart is just how they supported the run and how they were allaround players slays I mean slay can give you effort against the run which jante openly bragged that he didn’t do he had no interest in tackling anyone but yeah they’ve had some pretty good Corners here over the years um I mean slay what you what five five Pro bowls as an eagle I believe three three is an eagle two is a lion yeah my bad I think three is a line I think he’s up to six is he up to six yeah yeah three and Detroit and then the last three in Philly so three of his four years here he’s been a pro bowler yeah he’s a fun player and I I think he’s still he’s still really good it’s going to be fun to see how quarterback shapes up I mean they have so much more Talent than they had when you think about it like like when last year started key wasn’t even playing yet you know for like most of the year but like if there if their best corners are the two rookies slle and Isaiah Rogers I mean only one of those guys was was here last year and if you want to put Keeley in that in that mix he wasn’t even playing early in the year um so yeah to me corner is the most interesting intriguing position on the roster just how it’s all going to play out yeah I agree with that uh the last guy we talked to was Tyler Steen Right Guard Tyler Steen and I honestly I thought the best answer from him came from your question about his start last year against Dallas yeah he he played the one game against Dallas at Right Guard and they won and he obviously was going up against you know Micah and some other pretty good guys but he said he was disappointed in it and you know the Eagles said how well he played and uh you know for his first start and you think about look it’s his first start he hadn’t even played any reps I think he played the week before he played like six snaps and that was it so considering the circumstances he hung in there but he said he was disappointed he said I want to prove I’m I’m a better player than that um I I didn’t play the way I I expected to or I hope to and I like that accountability uh I was curious how he’d answer that and I liked his answer and um he’s kind of said about and look the big the big jump is from year one to year two and that’s that’s what we’re seeing with him um he talked about just how serious he took the off season and um he feel he feels like he doesn’t have anything he’s not going into this thinking I have anything locked up there’s no guarantees I got to fight for that Right Guard job and that’s how he’s going into it I like what I heard from him I did too and I think it gets a little uh understated how difficult it is to move from left tackle to Right Guard it’s a big transition and I think sometimes when you look at players in the draft and think okay he has this body type yeah he’s gonna be able to to just make that transition in the league it’s just not always that easy like it can take a little while sometimes for a guy to feel comfortable in his new position yeah and he talked about how like you’re not just getting used to a new level of play and a new coaching staff and um you know just the responsibilities of of this of the contract you know getting a a big contract for the first time um you’re switching positions and going from college to the NFL at the same time that’s a lot um he had to change his body uh you to be have more of a guard body so I think he looked bigger he did I thought he looked good um and he also talked about and this is something that we’ve touched on before with other guys but um you know and I think Jaylen Carter even referred to it like you spend so much of the time before the draft getting you know getting raising your trying to raise your draft stock and training for the combine training for the pro day and that’s not training for football you’re training for testing um and sometimes it takes guys a while like you’re going to improve you’re going to impress coaches and Scouts doing that but are you getting ready for football and he said this offseason I’ve been able to just hone in on football specific training I didn’t have to train for the combine in pro day um and and he he thinks it’s helped them that’s why I love what Marvin Harrison Jr did he’s like I’m not running your 40 I’m not I’m going to be a high pick anyway I’m getting ready for football yeah and not everybody has the luxury of doing that um but if you can yeah I mean because we hear that from so many guys how you know and and I mean these guys have there there’s specialist trainers that get you ready for the combine and and they are not football trainers they’re you know they get ready for a vertical jump and a and a shuttle and a and a 40 mainly um but it’s not football so that might be an interesting Trend story next offseason yeah I like that we have anything else 1. The Eagles sign Saquon Barkley to the largest contract for a running back in team history. Before the ink is even dry, on the first day of OTA, Ruben says “I don’t know, man, he could be shot. He could fall off the cliff tomorrow. You never know?“ Way to stay positive, my friend.😮

  2. I’m a physical therapist, a lot of people now feel like there should be a hard nine month minimum for ACL return to sport, some people are freaky, athletic and heal quickly and do really well with earlier return, I don’t see why Sydney would not be a feasible shoe in for at least late September.

  3. What Roob is trying to say is that runningbacks have a tendency to Bradberry.
I don't think it is underappreciation. Slay hasn't been 100% like 90% of the time. Its hard not to be disappointed when somebody as good as he is isn't crushing it. No shade, though. He was still our best corner with one knee.

  4. Hunter Renfrow would be a great slot for this team. Kellen could use him similar to how they used Beasley

  5. Dave always makes things awkward. He’s like that dork who doesn’t know how to converse so he tries to make it seem like you said something weird

  6. I can speak to the Pickett glove issue, having watched him at Pitt. It's not that he needs them, he threw it pretty well without them, but his OC at Pitt, Mark Whipple, asked him how he felt with them after a bad weather day one time because he noticed he had better control of the ball with them on. Pickett said he liked it, so he started wearing them full-time time during his Jr. year. It does look odd, but it's just a comfort thing for him at this point.

  7. “Yeah, I’m not there yet,” after one OTA with Dave reminding him we’re one day in here is classic Eagle Eye😂 man I love these guys🦅 GO BIRDS

  8. I'm hearing a lot of the same talk about Barkley we heard last year with Swift. "You know he's gonna get the ball in the passing game. One thing we know about the passing game is they're gonna involve the RB way more this year." Come to think of it, we heard the same about the Gainwell draft pick. Here's an idea, how about we get a guy who can actually run the ball? Barkley isn't that guy. You can't just blame his OL when his backups have had higher rush success % than he did in 4 of his 6 years with the Giants. I've said for years he's the most overrated player in the NFL and I'm not gonna change my tune all of a sudden just because he's an Eagle now. In my mind, he will always be the face of the NYG franchise (one of the worst teams in the league over the past decade), gonna find it really hard to root for the guy.

  9. Let’s not forget that jalen Carter had a back injury. He did have an MRI. That could be why his play fell off midseason.

  10. I’m convinced Reub will only be happy if the birds sign prime Calvin Johnson as WR3….then he’ll complain we don’t have a WR4

  11. Why i dont like to watch these podcasts it all means literally nothing getting excited and upset way too early before season 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  12. I think Sweat has just as much reason to be there as Bradberry. He NEEDS to be there with that terrible year he had

  13. Darius Slay slader is definitely uncalled for. He's never been terrible maybe a couple bad games here and there but for the most part extremely reliable
