Thank you for watching this HowDidiDo Academy video on how to hold onto a good score.

welcome to the how did I do Academy and this video is about how to shoot a good score or how to hold on to a good [Music] score I’m going to talk you through some key thoughts on how to keep a good round going I’m on the 17th te at the moment it’s all going rather well but how do you hold on or shoot a better score than your mind wants you to shoot stop getting in your own way and watch this video just like with any sport or exercise you need to keep yourself hydrated and take some food intake in there’s no point starting drinking on 17 it needs to be done earlier so you’re refreshed to finish the round properly and be honest with yourself if you’re on for a good round you are going to start thinking about it what could be could I be winning the trophy could I be lowering my handicap so you need to try keep yourself in the present I like talking to my plane Partners asking them some questions about themselves I also want to stay off this if your football team starts losing if a group chat goes crazy that’s a distraction but it’s not a good one so keep your phone away from you it’s Heaven being away from your mobile phone see if you can do it for the entire of your round of golf it’ll help you concentrate but in a good way so a nice distraction of talking to your playing Partners staying in the present but also stay off your mobile phone what I want you to think about is this Lilia Vu she is the Women’s Open Champion the AIG Women’s Open Champion when she won around Walton Heath with a 66 she sang Taylor Swift all the way around that was her distraction she chose not to talk too much to her playing Partners certainly not on her phone but she spoke to her caddy and she sang Swifty swing thoughts stick with one if it’s been working for 15 16 holes don’t try and change it don’t think oh maybe I should try this commit to having the same thoughts so it could be overp put I’m getting it to the hole on my full swing shots my commitment is to get my chest over the ball because I’m going to try and launch it a bit lower I’ve thought that now for 16 holes and it’s been going okay I don’t want to change my mind now that is a huge commitment to do to try and stick to that one process goal but I’m going to keep with that now another thing try and treat every hole the same this may say 17 on the t- box and there may only be two holes left but all 18 are arguably important aren’t they so don’t put more more importance on the first hole because you’re nervous and the 18th hole because you’re nervous at what could be try and just dilute the situation and every hole is different in its own right you’re playing 18 holes you’re trying to beat the hole or the course 18 times so break it down some people break it down into three holes some people break it down into one hole every time so if you’re a a scratch golfer you’re thinking to yourself I need to par or better on every single hole doesn’t matter if it’s the 17th hole or the first hole and if you’re a handicapped golfer obviously you’ll use the stroke index to try and get those net pars or net birdies on any hole so just because it says 17 on it doesn’t mean it’s way more important than the fifth hole now on to the 18th hole but remember it’s just one hole it’s not the most significant one of your round also how many more rounds of golf are you going to play how many more holes are you going to play I used to have quite a big emphasis on my 18th hole in a tournament and then I had to say to myself it’s a 72 whole tournament I’ve still got another three rounds to go actually if you’re talking about it in a whole round of golf I’m only a quarter of the way through I had to try and say that to myself in order not to put the pressure pressure on when you really don’t want it we’ve hit the 18th T you’re on for a good score there’s no hiding away from that now we’ve try to stay in the present and what we’re going to do now is we’re going to be conservative in our targets but our aggressive in our swings now driver yes driver on 18 however there’s a lot of trouble down the right hand side and my Miss is down the right hand side I’m on for a good score why do I want to put this down in my mind what I’m going to do is take the three-wood because this is one of my favorite clubs in the bag love hitting three-wood and my Miss is left with the three-wood and I don’t mind being left down here so I’m going to sacrifice that 10 20 yards in order to find a fairway so I’m going to be conservative in my Target and my Club selection but I’m going to be aggressive in my swing okay straight at that bunker on the left hand side with a three-wood and be nice and aggressive stroke positive with it I kind of like that one you know because it was leaking a bit right but with a three-wood it’s still middle of the Fairway if that leaks right with a driver see you could even be reloading so I’m safely on The Fairway maybe 10 yards 15 yards further back than I want but I’m walking off this tea with a bit of a Feelgood Factor not a negative one now we’re spoken about trying to take your mind off the future trying to stay in the present we talk about concentration obviously you want to be concentrated at the right point you can’t concentrate for 4 hours now many players have the velcro on their golf glove as they’re on and off switch so when this goes on that’s my on switch after I’ve hit the shot that’s my off switch and between that you try not to think about golf you try not to think about What’s happen happened what’s going to happen we just try and stay in the here and now but that’s quite a good tip for you to use so that’s on and off in terms of concentration look we’re nearly there we can see the clubhouse there’s no hiding from the fact that we are finishing our round of golf but remember it’s not the last round of golf you’ll ever play and we need to try and take the significance away from the moment I picked my club I know my yardage but how can you make yourself or let yourself hit a good shot there has to be a point so I’ll put this on that’s my on switch there has to be a point in your mind where you are accepting whatever happens to that little white ball I’m all right with that no one’s going to die hopefully but that’s what you have to get you have to get to that point where you just cross a line under it and think I’m going to do this and whatever happens I’m all right with the consequence and that feeling of being okay actually helps you hit a better [Music] shot it’s all right to say relief when something comes off but I let myself there I was accepting of whatever would happen and I felt my muscles just being less tight because of it I’ve actually hit a decent shot as well right let’s go and make a pop [Music] the sense of satisfaction of completing the round I’ve tricked myself all the way around that every hole is not that important they’re all the same I have spoken to my plan Partners try to distract myself trying to get myself away from a moment in order to play the best that I can but now it’s done I can forget all that that was really important those last few holes but I didn’t think they were at the time now I know that they are I can get my scorecard out I can write a good score on the scorecard get my handicap down or even pick up a trophy thank you for watching this video and all of our videos 1. I am struggling with my concentration on the course at the moment, once I get in trouble I seem to start rushing & struggle to bring it back into line. My biggest issue is slow play, it makes staying in a focused state much harder to achieve, if you have any suggestions for staying in the moment for that scenario.

  2. Great advice on phone usage. I only carry my phone as an emergency tool when golfing. I can’t stand playing with partners that are keeping one eye on the game and one eye on their betting or group chats
