hello everyone and welcome along once again to racing weekly a podcast and YouTube show brought to you by odds Checker in association with Beth 365 as always my co-host Steve Ryder uh to my left but we welcome one of our favorite guests Johnny Ward over from Ireland Johnny welcome once again to the show good to have you on this week because we’ got Irish racing to look forward to but a little chat about the way the season is progressing so far in your opinion in terms of some of the Stars emerging have you been excited by what you’ve seen on the flat season yeah I have um allbe it I I I feel now that um British jumps racing versus Irish racing is flipped in terms of the flat because I think Irish racing on the flat is very much in in second uh in in second place at the moment primarily because Galileo’s influences on the way we don’t have duwi we don’t have Frankl and um you know I spent uh a day at aen o’ br’s a couple of weeks ago and everyone was talking about city of Troy he was down the field in the guins and the rest of his horses ran okay in the trials um but we didn’t have a runner on Saturday in the Locking um and I think British racing is really dominant at the moment so a lot will depend on the Derby in terms of city of Troy can he carry the mantle for these for the coolmore kind of Partners going forward but I have my doubts at this stage keep your be exciting keep your P of draw on City tro we’ll talk about the Derby in a bit more detail um but Steve your overall impression of what we’ve seen in the last I saw you at New Market on the weekend it’s been some really good racing yeah I love York as a meeting uh yeah some slightly surprising results I think we could probably say there and it’s probably muddied the the actual picture for the Oaks and the Derby somewhat even more uh but good racing and yeah we had a great day at New Market in the sun yes we had a few laughs at New Market on on on Saturday um one horse that you think might be worth following that you’ve either seen or you’re waiting to see I like agenda agenda was second in his trial obviously to very ill fated um winner at jenda when when he won at dond do um couple of months ago he was quite well touted and I I thought he ran a really good race J he was Miles clear of of the the third horse he stable mate and it was only his third start and he needs to be supplemented for the Derby so I’m not entirely sure they will because they have plenty of horses for the Derby but if he keeps progressing I think he’s banged there in terms of the middle distance horses yeah he rolled around Chester so comfortably didn’t he uh so that’s one horse to bear in mind already agenda um it’s time though now to get into this week’s racing recap and as Steve alluded to we start with York and what happened at the Dante Festival on the naves meire uh lots of racing to reflect on but we’re try and keep it snappy the Clipper Stakes Was Won by mstream first of all um I start with you here Johnny on mream some good horses in behind but I felt given the way that mstream was checked in the run will Willam Buick suggested that he would have been unlucky had he not won um that he was probably um much better than the bare margin I was definitely H definitely value for sometimes I think in race like this it can you can it can exaggerate kind of how much you would have won by if you didn’t kind of meet trouble but he was full of running um I love this horse attitude he’s a very interesting horse on pedigree as well he’s by Glen Eagles but he’s very fast he was an expensive yearling um and he is a half brother I saw this morning asymmetric real sprinted pedigree and where do they go next with him I think is very interesting it looks like the um looks like Roy Las which is going to be interesting and he’s I’d say he’s just improving as well he looks he looks just like very very strong kind of um as a four-year-old this season and um definitely deserve to win the race there should be a lot more to come from him we looking forward to see him in a even bigger field the next day Royal Ascot yeah I thought Ascot would probably suit him even better considering the way he finished off the race 8 to one currently with bet 365 for the Queen Elizabeth the second Jubilee Stakes um a race has changed his name I meant number of times on the Saturday um was there anything in behind that you felt could beat him again or deserves another chance no I I thought diligent Harry was a bit of an eye catcher I thought dropping down to five furong at Royal Ascot for the King Charles II good Stakes um would really suit him a stiff five furong I don’t think he quite gets that six fongs um his 221 with bet 365 for that race I actually am quite looking forward to mil stream stepping up to seven fongs later in the season the way that the the the the way that the the season kind of progresses there’s no seven Fong targets early on in the year but later on in the season I think seven Fong is probably what he wants because he wants either a stiff six fongs which you’ll get at Roy asot or seven fongs later on in the season you can see him ended up in something like the for yeah you can imagine his season I it’s a shame that uh Goodwood hasn’t turned the lenx into a group one because you can see him going ASA and then the Maurice degees six and a half and then end up in the for yeah so uh good to see mstream um Jane chhim was pretty clear that aset was next on the agenda for him uh the musidora Steve I don’t know what to make of friendly Soul we everyone saw what happened they reported that she hung left well we all saw that secret satire one um she looks nice straightforward and um an admirable Philly but is she a potential Oaks winner for you you you’d be disappointed the fact that she’s still available at 25 to1 with bet 365 for the Oaks kind of says it all really I mean they’re blown their handicap Mark haven’t they she’s gone up18 this morning up to a mark of 103 aen Murphy’s just brilliant in these York Epsom trials isn’t he he won on Roaring Lion telecaster and the foxes in the Dante neither of those or none of those went on to win win the Derby and and you yeah you’d be surprised if if secret Sati went on to win The Oaks obviously the Mador does have some bearing on The Oaks in in recent past um snowfall and soul sister both both went onto this so she probably wouldn’t be able without a chance I would forgive friendly so her run she went to post absolutely fine and then as soon as she left the gate tungue right-handed was wide no cover and then I thought Kieran schar kind of got her back and she made a bit of Headway into the as soon as they hit into the straight and then hung again and yeah there was absolutely no signs of that at New Market and it was really disappointing yeah completely contrasting effort from what we saw at New Market which was a really honest straightforward Philly and then something clearly a Miss i’ give her i’ give it the benefit of the out going that way then you know change it back to maybe a more conventional tractor next year but like she was very very strong in the market and what was a good race she’s obviously a lot better than that um terms of Mayfair I was she she she ran um sort of okay she might be able to step up and trip um but I don’t know if this race will have an awful lot of relevance for the Oaks I think maybe and we saw better trials including the guine itself for the Oaks yeah okay more about the Oaks in just a second I think once we’ve done the Dante we might have a reflection on the Derby and the Oaks picture let’s talk about the Middleton Philly Stakes blue stocking um she’s been a horse that if you look through her form from last season even the season before that you think she’s very good but she doesn’t win very often um and rith Becket was not confident Before the Race that she was going to do what she did um I mean no one could have been confident looking her record but that was mightily impressive it was an extraordinary performance and like the you know the races won a long long way out I’m not sure free win was that far below um her best either you know and to win by six lengths that brings her into you know the territory of of basically a career best performance and again she looks like a horse who has definitely improved from three to four um does she go for the the uh coronation cup and was going to be very interesting yeah she is 8 to1 bet 365 uh for the coronation cup what do you think of that as a a prospect for her I thought the trip brought out Improvement in her I I both Steve melish and I on the show last week questioned her attitude in the finish I was particularly disappointed with the way that she appeared to throw the race away at Chester but they put cheap pieces on her for the Philly and May’s race on Champions day and I just thought there she might have been outstayed over a mile and a half and I then l through her upcoming entries over a mile and two and they still had her in the tackles Gold Cup which I assume Will C come too quickly for her she’s only in the Hardwick at Royal Ascot because I was hoping that something like the prince of Wal Stakes might be there but I’ve eyed up an entry later on in the Pretty Polly and looking through the initial entries in that she’d have the likes of Jackie O and lumier rock to beat so so it wouldn’t look the strongest of contests if they want to keep it to May’s company I thought that would be a really good race to Target for her she was she was really good last year but just couldn’t win she placed in two group ones a group two two listed races but now she’s got that win and I thought she traveled particularly well in cheap pieces over that trip and it’s worth remembering she finished what half a length second in the Irish Oaks so she can travel over to Ireland and I thought the Pretty Polly would be an ideal next Target for I don’t think the owner has anel is in the Pretty Polly as well so yeah M and two with the car absolutely perfect okay exciting options then but she is clearly a Philly of great ability and now now able to show it judged by that performance she blitzed her field in the Middleton blue stocking looking forward to seeing what she can do for the rest of the season now at the big race the big talking point of the whole week of the Dante Festival was the race itself uh after which the the meeting is named and economics was a hugely impressive winner now the story very quickly for some people who may not know is that he was in the derby he was taken out of the Derby by William haggas and his team uh so that they wouldn’t be tempted to run in the derby and he still went for the Dante he won by six lengths and now the Derby remains a Temptation figure as they say um go figure uh yeah it’s kind of like dressing kind of shaby so you don’t stay out all night like you know I’m not going to be tempted this is mad stuff I can’t remember a horse winning the Derby who was you’re in but then taken out and Chris kin Chris kin was in was taken out and then went back in 20 odd years ago yeah 21 years something like that he was taken out by S Michael Stout um he then won at Chester dumped fergo Lynch when he won and then supplemented won the Derby I I I feel and you’re looking at the prices if he runs there I feel he should be favored if he runs and the weird thing is he’s is it the half sister by Dawn approach w a bumper um so there is definitely a sign a lot has been made of the fact that um he’s by a sire in night of Thunder who wouldn’t necessarily be considered but KN of Thunder there’s nothing to say he’s not going to get um a mile and a half horse and he he he just he just stayed on so well here I think and I think it was a proper trial for me um I’m not sure you know the the the bini owner I’m sure there’d be a massive Prestige for the royal family bin to the winner of the Derby I feel that they’ll I feel that they will you know put him back in because um I think he should be favorite there’s so much so much doubt about city of Troy and there you know the others as I mentioned other horse have fallen by the wayside in the derby picture I I and Willie In fairness Willie hags you look at bayed he’s very very patient and he’ll take his time they got to be tempted it’s still the Derby they got to be tempted and he’s favorite if he goes the Johnny sums it up it’s you’ve got a horse who blew out in the 2000 I blew out badly in the 2000 guies who’s two to one favorite with bet 365 for the Derby who is absolutely no guaranteed to get a mile and a half as it is so many question marks about that horse who’s the two to one favor for the Derby then you’ve got the six length winner of the dantey who’s who’s maybe not even going to run in the race um what what do you make of that I mean let’s call the SP F the Derby’s a mess isn’t it like law would have been my ID of the winner and then he obviously he lasted a few seconds after winning his trial yeah a bit of soft ground and I’d give Ancient wisdom another chance Ste off in trip because I thought not that it would affect the result but I thought Tom Aran did a brilliant piece of race riding to sneak up on the outside of William Buick who was traveling really well on Ancient wisdom and kind of kept him in a pocket and I’m sure William bu would want that race back because once economics had gone past he kind of went well I’m not going to I’m not going to be able to catch him and kind of I don’t think he was too hard on him so as a trial for rep him I would say as Steve M and I said on the show last week I do think soft ground is important to him so if you do get a soft ground Derby he would definitely shorten from his odds of 14 to1 with bet 365 currently so just very quickly on him he didn’t look as well as I’ve seen him in the padet before not didn’t look terrible but there were other horses in the race like economics who stood out in their coat and economics look well you look terrific absolutely I mean I know obviously people saying but I did say at the time beforehand he looked outstanding and he’s a goodl looking big strong Brut for horse as well and it’s interesting it’s not the same thing but Anthony oppen hyber deliberately hadn’t put Golden Horn into the Derby because of his breeding didn’t think he’d get the trip hacked up in the Dante supplemented and went to win the race economics is a slightly different type because he’s a bigger horse and whether he’ll handle Epson but I I don’t think you can win this trial by six lenson and not go for it albe it that if they took him out to avoid Temptation in the thought that they might do well he’s done this now hasn’t he Aiden has so many Runners as well he could could conceivably run five or six very hard to know what the Tacs be like on the day um but for me with economics not so much stamina it’s will he handle if they are that worried about the track other than that I I’d make him favor for the he’s far more solid than the favorite and let’s be honest like he’s bolted up in the dant that was well up there with Cy Troy’s best two-year-old sort of ratings yeah uh the day after the race I managed to speak to William hagas very briefly on the phone um he was very K and he said I know I’m being K he said all I’m going to say I said can we say something to the viewers and he said all I’m going to say is the owner is a very sporting man and up for anything and I thought that is pretty indicative of how serious a consideration it’s not simply a case of well we’ve taken Temptation out there it’s it’s bang in the middle of the table well also it sounds like he’s an owner that will defer to the trainer a bit unlike some other owners we might have heard about in the last week or two we’ll get to that as well a later on cuz you you can IM like you can imagine how um how tricky it is for a trainer when you know you’re trying to tell an owner also an owner from a different culture in a different country I don’t really want to run him in the derby here even though he’s favorite so you have to have a good relationship there yeah uh so if would you run him oh 100% yeah I mean the Derby is the great is still the greatest still the Derby yeah and if he doesn’t stay or he doesn’t handle the track it’s not in Works no exactly and he would be he would be Tom Marin is a great jockey and he will know how to look after him um and I think if he runs in the derby he wins personally he’ll go a favorite and I i’ i’ yeah I’d have him the most likely winner I think the Derby picture is a mess unless it’s s ground and I’d fancy H and wisdom to get a lot closer over a mile and a half trip I I think he’d go off what what do you think he’ go off seven to four well depends because the problem with what he might go off is what goes on with city of Troy because if if they decide that they’re going to back city of Troy on the day I mean what what happens if Michael tab goes I’m going to back him you know that’s August right down and he went off 92 though so it was it’s a similar sort of it is a similar story yeah but I mean they didn’t say AUST reden was going to win the Triple Crown and then the Breeders Cup Aiden told me to back August Rodan like two or three weeks before the Derby he was like he was very very um yeah yeah absolutely but for me AUST Rodan was physically and that was a sort of this off the record conversation like you know basically do you would you would you have you maintained faith in the s abely absolutely no doubt now AUST ran has run like up and down so much but with city of Troy like I said to Aiden I was like has he trained on he said what’s trained on horses don’t not train on they have problems if they don’t he wasn’t saying he has but it was such a bad performance and the excuses were so many and so questionable do you know what I mean I I I just I couldn’t I I there was just something about that performance that made me really worry about the horse as he trained on and then you throw in the fact he has to handle him in a potentially big is field he has to stay the trip he has to go over and do everything right after an inexplicably bad run in his only three-year-old also he would have to be ridden slightly differently than the way he’s been he’s all his races he’s been gunned from the front not gunned but he’s been he has been gone to bit hard you couldn’t I don’t think you could do that around unless you you know I know one or two horses have made all the running a slip anchor and stuff like that but whether he could do that in the derby after the back of that run in the game okay so the the other problem is he he he left us in no doubt he’s definitely Superior to everything else so that means every other Derby horse you want to back from maidens is inferior to a horse that’s really I I My Grave doubts about right who wins the Derby I think if if uh economics is supplemented he’s definitely the one for me I do like agenda but he needs to be supplemented as well um so I’d be looking at that he’s like 3340 to1 I think okay who wins the Derby I would think we we’re going to have some rain I i’ I’d probably go anent wisdom at the prices at 14 to1 knowing that you’ve got guaranteed okay oh for for my golf I hope it doesn’t rain but for your bet then I hope it does I haven’t backed him yet I’ll go on to a couple that I have back okay all right um I mean who knows who knows there have been occasions when Aiden and Brian’s run a horse in the Irish guine and then then fired them off to Epson but let’s wait and see on that but at least we’ve got as much information as we can on that picture um can I is it true though it’s like I just we spent 80 to 90% of the B doil visit talking about a horse who was down the field in the was like Ruff Scott Sunday Times article on the guine was 80% about the horse that was down the field when you had a really good unbeaten winner it was like we’re buying into the hyp here that now is kind of like I don’t know and I’d love if he came back you know oh it would be great it would add to the season enormously if he came back right okay we should also do a recap on the Oaks as well who is the likeliest oaksan I’ll start with you here I said on the show last week I think y Lang y Lang is still probably the most likely winner none of these trials have blown me away and I always think the guine is the best trial for the Darby and the Oaks I I just think standing in a box she’s getting shorter and shorter each week nine to four with bet 365 rubies a red 4 to1 e AIA 9-2 obviously we’re going to talk about the Irish 1,000 gine a little bit later on but your likeliest winner of The Oaks at this stage funny I do actually like The Three Irish horses here um rubies are already to be my my slight preference I’m I’m not not certain Lang Lang is going to get a mile and a half to be honest I’m actually not and I did like her running like to run at um at New Market um but rubies are red she just looks like she’s really progressing and she’d be very very solid for the race would have learned a lot from her trial um I actually like one in their big price who’s due to running the Irish guine this week or possibly going to run the Irish guine this week and it’s buttons who’s 33 to one for the Oaks and I know she might run the Irish guine but it’s not unusual for Aiden to go Irish guiney and epsom Oaks or the Oaks at Epsom would she be so she would have to uh would she stay by Kingman um maybe she may not stay by Kingman but heram Wonder of Wonders ran a great race in the O and she certainly stayed so she as far as know she does run at the weekend anyway but as you say it wouldn’t be unlike like hey you know let’s throw her up let’s throw up the Y as well yeah well I she’s a pH like anyway it’s an interesting angle so we haven’t solved anything yeah U let’s talk about some other races that happened at York uh big EVS um he returned with great style I love this comeback run he won that list of to race the westo stakes um he goes to the King Stand or the King Charles the thir Stakes uh 72 favorite with bet 365 how impressed for you with the comeback MCA said he was more nervous about that race than the Breeders Cup yeah I mean sizes of threey olds on their re appearances have been kind of a big topic this year and he hadn’t really grown that much but it filled out it looks like a proper Sprinter now I thought Tom marand was really good on him took his time because he been a bit of a uh I suppose a keen front runner I thought he was a lot more tractable in this race um yeah obvious Target to go five fongs rather than stepping up and trip to the Commonwealth cup um likely to be retired to start at the end of the season nice horse and it probably shows the the fact that the division is lacking some of these key um Marquee sprinters this year um it was a fantastic day for Tom markand I thought he rode rode the track brilliantly at the whole meeting that was his treble um that day um won the opener on Clarendon house and he’s going to head back to the dash where he’s got unfinished business yeah he’s a nice horse be I like that sort of that bull of a sprinter like him and blue pints had a great run of it it’s interesting to say he’s going to be he’s going to have his three-year-old campaign and then straight to start another these I I do like this horse going forward though as a five farong out and out five farong horse as you mentioned it’s good that he’s less um a prisoner to one tactic as well and handle Ascot very well and that’s that’s a great point because obviously he was so prepared to be uh lightning out the gates for the Breeders Cup CU he had that good draw and you didn’t want to miss it nice to see him relaxed more settled um and it was a terrific as you say terrific day for Tom mock on on his backside the day before and bounced back impressively the yire cup Giotto won for the second year joining the likes of uh stradavarius and ardross to mention some great stayers yeah there we go um I don’t think J Votto is quite in that category but clearly the naves meire at York it’s his back he’s a very very good horse in his day as well vban is going vban is interesting cuz he’s gone back to Ascot I believe um and he’s gone back to Australia as well and he destroyed him as you say he really likes York to of London was disappointing I thought um but a a couple of stairs at the moment I did want to mention I might mention a piece of heaven who won the amateur the the lady amateurs race in leopardstown who’s gone to run in one of the three stay staying RAC that ask got he’s a really really interesting horse he’s getting to the category of being very good and vban is rid by Buick because he’s going to go back to R him in Ascot I believe and they they they all systems go for the cop game but jav has a proper proper good horse in his day um and I do imagine he might make a nice National hunt s in time as well yeah the Irish Ledger I think Marco was saying further down the line is his main target yeah I said on the show last week it’d be disappointed if he won this because it looked a stronger renewal but actually it was it was a brilliant performance like there was no excuses for voban he probably come on for the Run Gregory the same but I mean the fact that ASI Murphy could turn around and and check where Ryan Mo was kind of says it all really that they’re adamant that he doesn’t want the two and a half mile trip for the Gold Cup which is fair enough and yeah Iris and Ledger he’d be a strong player in I think yeah the Locking took place on Saturday last Saturday um a huge shock for most people uh audience we all thought was in there as a pacemaker for in spiral um made all the running just about under RAB havin to win at 22 to1 now it’s not the first time in the Locking actually that uh a pacemaker done it fly to the stars did it way back when uh when pacemaking for into cab for goodin and Cape cross The Sire of see the stars no less he did it when he was pacemaking for kahal so it’s happened before yeah I must admit I didn’t think audience was capable of doing that he used to be a tear away yeah I thought it was a strange race now if you I was mad mad against um big rock here on the basis that the ground was completely different and they’re going to 100% set this up for inspiral right and and then I was kind of looking at the race like this horse has gotten a bit of a freebie here and he’s he’s if you if you a pacemaker a race and B Doyle and Kore learned this over the years you can’t run a no Hooper as a pacemaker cuz if the if the pacemaker is ignored pacemaker ma will not be there and this horse was good enough not to be ignored was nibble at in the betting um I thought sharan really emerged with massive credit because like what are we talking six and a half lengths back to third um and sharan just seems again another four-year-old who’s actually progressing with racing for me he was the one to take out of the race because I think everyone was looking to see this horse is going to come back um inspiral did okay I think the race a bit of a mess for her to be honest I I wouldn’t be giving up on her at all um but um it was a it was it was a strange renewal of the race I thought almost as strange was the the chat pre-race and post race pre-race the day before John gosen had said on an excellent interview he did on ITV that um he was concerned about her being drawn in one and being on the wing middle of the track so audience plows of fough down the middle of the track which you kind of assume was for inspiral to follow yet she ends up on the St rail after the race he then said well she wasn’t quite fit anyway I’m confused we we were stood in the in the parading at at New Market watching it and I said ah havin you need to turn around you’ve you’ve lost in spiral and then I was on Sharon and and said oh that’s all right he’ll come back he he’s never ran over seven F further than seven fongs and he just just never came back um I mean he apparently was going to head to Hong Kong they’ve kept him in training as a lead horse for inspiral I bet they’re glad they did isn’t this the thing though should should more connections not run Pacemakers in races of adequate ability first of all you’re putting the horse in that might there might be a pace bias actually on the day right but to to hurt the chances of other Rivals and it’s entirely legitimate like this this were if they hadn’t run this pacak on the race inspiral disappoints and big rock might get a soft lead on another day I I just think it should be done more often I was even thinking if if haral had had a pacemaker against Hardy use as harball pass with day if Hardy use had been taken on the front harball wins that champion hard all day long you it just makes a lot of sense like to to have something up front to help you along but Balor did it for years didn’t they and they’ve stopped doing it which I don’t I I know you obviously spoke around agender earlier I think he’d be ideal for that because he’s good enough that you can’t let him have a soft lead he obviously likes doing it because he got that kick off the bend at Chester and he’d be the ideal candidate for it but for the last two three years they’ve just stopped doing it maybe keep an eye out from for The Ledger as well if he doesn’t go tis him because he’s just a horse of will Gallop he’s very very good tactically verstile but yeah I I I just I just felt the race itself was kind of um you’re looking at the horse in behind big rock for me would just be more effective on soft brow simple as okay I think looking looking at the queen and market like charon’s now favorite at 5 to one you’ve got inspiral 11 to2 Factor chal 11 to2 big rock and audience are both 10 to one like out of all of those I’d be with Johnny I’d prefer Sharon for that he’s a progressive four-year-old and on another day I think he could have won that race whereas if you I think if you ran that again big rock and inspiral would still have absolutely no hope yeah I would say that considering everything that took place on that day um also there was I thought a really impressive performance in the Aston Park snakes from from Middle Earth who was held up at the back in that race kept to the inside by aen Murphy but flew home uh to beat king of Conquest narrowly in the end uh desert hero we were watching the race he was a bit disappointing because he traveled all right it just flat yeah yeah just maybe Rand came too soon from from the the race at Sandown yeah you got a good kick from this I thought I thought he’d struggle on the reappearance we had a chat pre-ra and I thought he’d struggle to find that extra bit on the ratings on his reappearance but I thought give him an absolutely great ride the the the families with the Dan rarn I think J lies trained her and Siege of Troy not city of Troy but Siege of Troy who’s by CI only made the debut was it on at the weekend for for Johnny mte Philly and I had been racing R well ran really well I’d been racing the day before she was scratched for some reason and I was really looking for a run but Buckaroo is in that family as well it’s a really good family she probably should have won it yeah and and and to be fair I think first him out maybe you know he Johnny to leave them with a bit on but Middle Earth being by the L roaring line for the same connections I I do Wonder like this horse could be quite interesting going forward as a as a as well half a sh has gone to Australia wow so I think the plan is Royal ASA and then he goes down under for the Melbourne cup specifically but Kieran May who’s bought or um who’s taken half the share in the horse is saying that they think they could win Group One races with him certainly down under a mile and a half mile and a quarter which looking at the way he quickens in Europe I mean and it’s the lineage as well of roaring line continuing because of that you know you’re just a short kind of time span there I I I know it’s irrelevant because it’s not a handicap the handicap was impressed up 9 to 111 just to bear in mind so yeah very impressive but I would say fast ground very important to him hated the soft ground in The Ledger last year he’s heading to the right spot Middle Earth yeah definitely on Earth uh the canavan stakes I’m going to let Steve talk about this CU I was watching him watching the race in The Paddock from afar and I could see his smile that sounds very nice I was watching him I was watching him watching the race yeah was a little bit stalkerish but the smile on his face kept widening from two furong to the winning post I mean that was hugely impressive for I loved it this yeah this was the performance I know economics got all of the plaits for his Dante run but this was the performance of the week for me I loved it I mean this this guy was an ABS absolute beautiful specimen last year was really impressive on his first couple of starts kind of ran well at Royal asot finished third albeit the Nori hasn’t worked out particularly well um yeah didn’t didn’t run too well in France after that but they’ve given him plenty of time returned after 231 day break Lo right back to his best beat race fit rivals in relief rally in a day in Devon there was no fluke around it was strong to the line vanique comes out obviously on the Sandy Lane and is a worthy favorite on what they achieved both as juveniles but wow I’d prefer to be back at him at 8 to1 with bet 365 for the Commonwealth Cup right now and yeah this is one of the bets I’ve had for roas got I was blown away by the com cops a great race such a good addition and all these non stairs and Stat is the group one is under threat yeah W well there we go yeah this this is going to be a hell of a renewal this year I’m not sure Aiden has a couple of horses that in it in it that might run if they don’t um the wooden bassard horse runs in the guiney who if he doesn’t stay um whose name is G me at the moment he might come in here River Tyber um if he runs the way that I was just talking to today we get to the second half show the way the ground is shaping up now at the C it might kind of change his views but he’s 14 to one he yeah it’s going to be a hell of a race this year okay um yes Elite status massively impressive he won of course he won the national Stakes at Sandown which is a race that’ll come into our discussion a little bit later on um before we talk about anything else of horses wise performances can we just have a quick chat about the whole king of Steel ammo racing um saw Matt Chapman’s interview um with Kia Jan um on the weekend and got to ask you do you do you do you like doing those interviews when you’re live and you know the way you almost door stop connections I’m getting very wary of them now because people kind of sometimes you just don’t want to talk to you live I don’t know how do you find yeah it’s it’s it’s not the easiest when they say just can you and you do it live mind CU they can say no if the cameras looking at them live but then you got to you you got to cover yourself in some glory in quite quite quite often I would say I often say to them I said I’m really sorry such a nice guy oh I’m so sorry and if you don’t want to I don’t mind and I could just talk about their horse from until they’re ready to talk or if they say go away and I go and harass somebody else because I it is people think oh yeah look at these idiots just doing it but it’s quite awkward for us it is as well as it is for them so um why did you make it the interview I thought it it was a terrific interview I thought both did certainly made and both Matt and Kia made it entertaining but I have to be honest I thought Kia came out of it badly did not come out well and like Adrian Murray has 142 year olds running for this owner this year and at the one level it’s like it’s amazing I have this opportunity but this is a this is not a straightforward owner it’s the it’s the whole idea of the fact that he has thrown Roger Varin under the bus and how classy Roger Varan has dealt with this in the media what did you think I I couldn’t believe it to be honest and then he’s come out the next day and spoken to Nick luck and is under the same thing one of comments in that interview was ah we don’t move horses you do um and it’s yeah you’ve kind of got to take it with a pinch of so because you’ve got to accept the horses because they’re high class big expensive yearlings they they spend their money at the sales and you’ve kind of got to train for him but you’ve also got to train with him for the knowledge that if you string two bad runs together that they’re going to leave you stable um obviously the flip side is that they can do whatever they want every owner can do what they want they’re paying the bill so ultimately he can do whatever he wants but I think from our point of view or people watching you kind of think there’s a certain way of going about things well there’s also a certain way in terms of you don’t train a football team and completely like change the squad in the middle of the Season you don’t train a horse race to have this kind of like almost what looks a knee-jerk move like I slag Paul Nichols about I actually met him at at punch stown and slagged him about uh not running the horse that they bought for 750 Grand to chel because he said calling because he said he need to climatize and he said we actually had him ready for entry we did and but he wasn’t right but he’s he you know genuinely some horses on ven it took him a while to realize you don’t just Flip Flip the horse to another yard in the middle of the season I think everything will be fine so regardless of the ethics of it that’s just not good practice yeah um okay a brief that was a brief word about what’s happened there um hopefully um everybody’s going to come out better for it but unfortunately I don’t think Kia did himself any favors with that that interview on the weekend um anything else eoin performances wise over the last week or so I mean I’m going to very quickly mention the horse that I liked last week London City who I think could develop into something very good he still looks so green winning at York didn’t he um there was one point where I think he touched a massive price in running but um he’s strong at the finish of the race mile six possibly Queens vs might be his yeah yeah well done for you for for flagging up I couldn’t quite believe the sp sp when it came through could I um but yeah a nice performance and a really good attitude from the horse um there was a few that took my eye I thought Botanical was the The Standard Group horse in the handicap I was really impressed with his victory um was a late non runner at Chester on account of the ground being too fast so just bear in mind that if you kind of keep an eye on anti poost markets for Royal Ascot with regards to the ground um yeah he’s up 10 pound to 107 which means that group races are probably be on the cards for him thought devoted Queen was really good she actually won the race before notable speech at Kempton that good old weather prep um she yeah both of those are now unbeaten um she won the listed Michael Cy stakes in her first time Hood I thought that really helped her last week I had a bit of a rant about people going on about the the all weather is now this season the all weather’s Pro the guinea winners yeah what we’ve only just invented the old weather it’s been around for a long time we also had a very weet winter you know I am but I was impressed with theot Queen she’s 12 to1 with bet 365 for the coronation stakes and the way that the both the guine are looking at the minute in in in the Phillies equivalent yeah 12 to1 seems perfectly fair for the voted Queen in that I thought lead artist was very very good um he finished second in the wood dis and was a bit culty in the preliminaries I didn’t actually see any pre-race whether whether he was better behaved he better much better behaved at yeah um but yeah reversed form emphatically with first Conquest in receipt of6 uh yeah he’s a lovely horse dubar out of a Frankle May so really well bred and then there was two for the alony stakes that really took my eye when we’re at New Market I thought mountain breeze was brilliant um under a penalty it does take some doing in these novice races to win under a penalty and she did it at the minimum of f under Pat dobs she Reish the trip up to the step up and trip to to six fongs Fairy Godmother would be the other one who’s Chuck a hat into the ring for for that race she stayed on well to win that group three in Ireland by neck to sparkling see reverse in that form really strong in the market again I think they sent her off about four to seven on debut and again was nearly even money on the day um yeah they’re 13 to8 and and 100 to3 for the Aly states with bet 365 and they’ll take a a fair bit of whacking in the uh in the AL SES got yeah Fair God it was good I’ll give just a couple of few stairs Birdman won the the Y Stakes of naven he’s only race once he stayed on really well one one Cole against a well touted Bal doy horse now B doer two and the the race and one was scratched but Birdman free Eagle really stay in pedigree he was good and I really like a piece of heaven he won he won off a rating of what was he running off he’s run off like 90 odard at leopard’s town and in in those races to have somebody like Ono Conor as a big help you know there would be some jockey lacking experience others that wouldn’t have a lot of experience in leopard down and and got a kind of a soft lead but he’s been trained for Roy Las 100% a peak of Roy lasot and Barry Fitz Sher who trains like any variety of horses like in terms of national hunt fast horses uh this is a good stair he just looks really really smart and I’m looking forward to him at um at Royal Ascot and um obviously kios you know it’s kind of hard to know what to make him at the moment he’s beaten the same horse the last twice he’s he’s been trained for oasc got um I think he’s only F fourth goal cup he does look kind of like he’s he’s he’s coming along nicely and so we’ve we’ve got some good stairs um and we have I think we’ve I think IR will have a bit of depth in in Roy lasot it’ll be spread out over different yards as well okay uh mention Betty Clover who won for Eve Johnson Horton the marygate stakes up at York that was a pretty good performance and a very good ride as well um and elsewhere uh bucanera came back after a to win in Ireland on the weekend I thought that’s definitely worth to mention and obviously any win of the London go cup should be given some recognition and Kings Gambit looks very good and well done to Harry Charlton the stable flying along at the moment one more thing yeah just Devil’s point one the German 2000 guine gave David manier his first classic Victory um yeah Sylvester the sua man of the moment yeah I thought that was a nice performance apparently heads to the pre moris the geese I think horse to follow on ITV put up by wow who was it Devil’s Point some very good handsome a handsome judge a very handsome judge HCK ran very well as well what run in I was I was at uh where was I at Wexford on the day and it’s like it just seemed like everyone was in France like you were run like M or Mission went over finish what fourth picked up 40 Grand or something basically a Grand National Horse and it like it just seems like um you know the Irish point was running home bye Mr Incredible um yeah so Huck like maybe the ground wasn’t as soft as they’re saying sometimes in France they give descriptions to me that are just not not quite as soft as they like very soft at France in May anyway but he ran a Blinder and like yeah that was that was a hell of a run belting run from Huck in the French Champion H be losange blue okay that has been this week’s racing recap now just before we get into our weekend preview just to let you know that our sponsor bet 365 have a best odds guaranteed offer it is available on every single UK and Irish race from 8:00 a.m. on the day of the race if you take a price and the spb is bigger bet 365 will pay you at the bigger rods full te’s and C’s can be found on the website now it is Irish guine weekend at the cura um Irish 2,000 ginies Irish 1,000 ginies um let’s deal with the 2,000 ginies first of all cuz it’s possible we may see a fair few of the horses that ran at New Market in its equivalent and many people are saying best renewal we’ve seen it uh New Market for many a year um there’s a possibility of rosalion Haram Ghost Writer who knows alanabi uh at least they’re still in it as we about to preview what’s your reading on the race of the moment might we see Henry Longfellow in that I think he’s going to head straight to the St James’s Palace was the last thing I heard yeah he’s not g to the car anyway I last week yeah I I thought the UK kind of held held the key to this I thought rosalion would prove hard to beat uh many comparisons were made between him and cord cliffs in the buildup to the 2000 guiney rightly so and I’m hoping he can emulate him winning this having place in the 2000 guins just like CER cliffs in 2010 um the eye was drawn to him throughout the race in the 2000 guine I know notable speech ended up winning fairly comfortably but I thought rosalion traveled so well into that race um yeah you just hope that they don’t get too much rain prior to it because even in the buildup to the guine they said oh we’re not going to run on soft ground so from what Johnny’s obviously previously said around rain this week that would be a slight concern if you’re looking at back in him anti poost for it um but if you look at what Aiden’s got like unquestionable I wouldn’t be too worried around him and yeah I thought the UK would win this for the third time in six years yeah I’m I’d be concerned about unquestionable definitely seeing out a stiffly run mile see he got it in Santa Anita but that was around abandon yeah and he’s coming back as well I I I think he’s sort of implied he might come on for the run a bit I’m with Steve on rosalion here he’s I think he is the best Blue Point hor so far that we’ve had but the the key here is just to weit with the ground because there’s a lot of rain forecast today when I was talking to in this morning they were getting a lot of rain thunderstorms forecast the with the climate situation now as well it can be very localized you can get like almost like flash flooding in one area and a few miles down the road very little so it this will be like if if it’s sofr rallan probably won’t run I would have thought um and I know that you know Richard Hannah says he wants to run the two of them but like Steve said he traveled so well at New Market he’s trained on really well and funny enough after the race um Richard Hannah sort of said I think he might have needed to run a little bit or he had a blow afterwards and he did get a little bit tired um I’d be all over him on good ground like all over him I’d be really struggling to see him not confirm for with hat him hat him has been very like impressive as well like considering he how hard he was raised as a 2-year-old um I suppose the the sad thing is when you see what Cy of Troy did to him as a 2-year-old how badly he ran a new market um another couple of horses to mention as well just uh if if I can in terms of what might run um Aiden is is probably going to run city of Tyber un questionable as I said river river Tyber rather city of yeah I I’d say River Tyber just might be a bit better over shorter and might might drop back in trip funny enough I must give a mention to take me to church as well H Jack davon’s horse I I definitely felt that his performance at leopard’s town was was not an accurate reflection of his ability it was a mess of a race um and he was kind of prominent in race in which it it paid to be held up but he’s very very bullish about him and he he love the ground regardless of what way it is um so he’ll probably be like 50 to one or something but don’t rule him out okay take me to church an interesting name to remember rosalion yes I think the interesting thing about the guine at New Market was wasn’t that notable speech outp speeded roselan he outstayed him I think I think if it was on speed roselan was the best horse in the race traveled so well and he just they they clocked some incredibly quick fractions one of the strongest Run guine that I can remember in recent times and that was what paid for notable speech in the end he went away from the quicker horse in second so if the ground’s all right I also agree rosalion would be the one um but if it if it if it doesn’t and Haram does run he’s been so consistent he looks an improved model this season his dad won the race Phoenix of Spain actually and he goes with cutting the ground like he did when he when he won at Goodwood so um that would be the play the 1,000 ginies I’ve already alluded to a horse I’m usually Keen to see buttons um but what is your take on what’s going to run what might not run yeah as as of um sort of the other day Aiden was going to run um I’d say he might run three or four in this race um Everlasting Everlasting um buttons he’s going to run let’s get it up here um he’s going to run the Philly that’s coming back H first run back as well um if I get my uh the duwi Philly who is D um aselia probably won’t run I was talking to uh some of the connections with der Weld and I think he’s going to run um aada who’s very interesting she won first time out sa uni at leopardstown on atrocious ground um really well bred out of a Galileo May um as AIA is going to step up and trip obviously for the Oaks um but if if she were the runner for um Derman wel it would be very interesting I think you like buttons um to mention it’s another the the no brine horses um that he might run and opera singer is not running Opera Sing well opera singer see this is the thing opera singer would be rated 180 is basically the best horse in the race she had a bit of a setback um and but it looks like she might run but it the reading between the lines she’ll come on for the runner Bas and so again I sort of prefer to see what I thought she was an Oaks she was you know back in the last season after she won the most I’d say she didn’t open in the Oaks to be honest and whatever yeah I’d say she will and but I’d say they might start here with a view to bringing her on for the run because she has had a bit of a setback okay yeah uh interesting thoughts um what about the Irish one 1,000 gin I think it’s very muddy this one yeah I’m I hope Vesti heads here there was obviously doubts around a stemina when she head headed over to the France she got off the mark in her career in seven fongs in the debutant stakes like didn’t bother with a maiden Chuck straight into to a grade two then finished second behind Fallen Angel in the Moy glare went to France on a reappearance in the PO leash and yeah I thought it was a perfectly I knew it was a grouped a bunched finish at the end but finished third beating half a length on soft ground m trip was a concern stayed it well and yeah I probably have other one to beat in this race I actually I I’d probably back purple lily at the at the at the kind of prices Patty Tumi basically had three in the race one look disappointed at leopard’s town the funny thing is with Patty Tumi I was up the yard two weeks ago he saw he’s he’s um going to run two in the race and it’s a question of what will be le r del I like R who’s unbeaten or um Peril who just didn’t quite get the mile in two with naven but but shamie he and will probably ride the other so imagine if sham heon were to win the guine potentially beat Aden O’Brien in the second string for somebody else this could easily happen because Patty J said to me what do you think Billy is going to ride here and I gave an answer but like I said I mean it’s very hard to know they’re quite different types purple lily though the way she traveled at nav she’s very very good very good and bear in mind aelia just outstay her and aelia has fors for the Oaks so she’s a very good horse and purple lily for me but I don’t have the prices here so I’m kind of speculating but I feel she’s going to run a big race regardless well we all speculating with regards to the prices um I I’ve made it clear I’m expecting big run from button she’s run twice this season both times I think she’s been tenderly handled by good as well yeah and the Wendler run where one looked disappointing I think that’s a good race I think that’s going to work out quite nicely and I think she’s going to be a better I could see her winning than Nassau or some like that in time but yeah anyway that’s a look at the Irish 10,000 guies the taturs Gold Cup again we’re not entirely certain we may or may not see a W ran will we see Al rer probably going to see white birch how do you see it I like white birch a lot um your honorable races that come cup like the bite loser status this is a race that was very much in danger of I mean the field sizes Rishi were were very poor like you look at since like helic dream won it in 2021 like not really um and Luxenberg won it last year I mean he franked the phone with a win ever hurdles yeah yeah yeah was it at naven yeah um this so Aiden would say that this is going to be ground line for a ghost Rodan that he’s not going to run if um I mean what’s the plan with elegant man he was to run recently and he was scratched cuz the ground was soft um I really like white birch I thought his form Cel last was outstanding maybe he got a soft lead but he’s he’s just he’s a proper proper strong horse who’s trained on um and I was talking to George Murphy the John’s son like it’s amazing to have a horse like this all these options give with the horse of of that ability who could go a mile and two a mile and four maybe even a mile and six you have so many options open to them and I I dis RAC he I would be amazed if he didn’t run and probably will be underestimated because the flashy types like AOS Rodan will be shorter in the b i I’d be backing him each way definitely same I think he’s been so honest as well he looks so straightforward he looks even more straightforward this season than he was last season the two wins that I’ve seen him he sits there and then he just continues to pick it up it’s been it’s been wonderful watching him this season well how do you see yeah I thought what looking at at the start of this year I thought white bur would would be stepping up in trip as opposed to 10 fongs but he’s yeah shown plenty of speed and yeah I thought it was yeah very good and he he has run on heavy and soft so far the only thing this this would be quite ground line for him I think he wouldn’t want it Go necessarily over mile to at this trip yeah and he would also have the option of the coronation cup he ran well in the Derby last year AUST R down like bits to get a season back on track how many times have we said that I mean form figures of 0 one 1 01 1 Z so it’s going to be a one isn’t it I cannot get my head around him because like Aiden was sort of saying the race was the race was a mess in maidan which it was but he was still beaten like 20 lengths or something do you know so it it’s kind of like I mean it was just you’re looking at him at times and it was like halfway through the race yeah this is not going to happen but he’s still he he doesn’t bomb out like he bomb bombs out he really is and so I fully expect him obviously to bounce back wherever he run I don’t think he go on this of itself I do really hope that that they are rewarded for keeping him in training because it been so easy for them to retire him to start and yeah just the problem with that is though like his start value is so much decreased because of his own liability like and there will would 100% be rumors as to why he’s unreliable they may be false they may be true but people will have reservations may it be possible that um you know he was kept in training because they did say that he acted so well on the dirt when he was training that maybe that might be absolutely a possibility at the end of the season absolutely where he could clash with cyia Troy who was obviously going to end up there as well um Al rer is he going to run to the US I think okay do he oh oh he’s going okay that’s a shame because I he’s very interesting he’s had his comeback run and obviously he was behind Ace impact last season and didn’t really have a full go of things last season but I hope that we see him in action soon he’s a very talented horse um let’s move on and talk about the temple Stakes uh for um the sprinters on Saturday at heok at Regional who’s been one of the stars of last season back in Action um he’s obviously got a penalty is HE capable first time up of giving that weight away to some good horses like living the dream Etc I think so one on his re appearance last year at York and a handicap will be but I went back and watched his watch his runs last year and I was I was so impressed again he’s another one that that ground is is important too uh likes the faster ground he also has the option of the green and Stakes over in Ireland so I’m quite happy the fact that they’re due some rain because it will probably mean that they’ll come here I think they’ll come here anyway over five F given that he’s three from three at ha do um like you said has to concede 5 pounds to Rivals including living the dream who won the the L nth or last season but I think they’ll have a bit of a different campaign this year he’d already had three runs before this race last year but you’d imagine the Breeders Cup again would be the Target so I imagine they’ll probably go a bit more slowly this season with living the dream and he might well need the run I I just thought Regional was was just Rock Solid here um like I said three from three hok won the Sprint Cup but shows plenty of pace over five furong that that wouldn’t be a concern for me and yeah I thought he was a very good each way better 5 to one better yeah I was surprised he was at price as well considering how well he is fresh won the race when he season return last year you say the penalty wouldn’t be a major issue for me and yeah and like the race will probably cut up as again you just keep an eye on the weather uh living the dream 3 to one favorite with bet 365 at the moment Rogue lightning 4 to1 as f f the Australian Runner 9-2 Regional 5 to1 then 8 to1 by those um I I hope Rogue lightning runs well he he put after he was gelded he put together a lovely sequence of performances and was arguably unlucky in the ab um could could potentially have have won that um so be interesting to see how he goes he’s actually actually goes well fresh so um I can see him running very well but it’s an awkward race first time up knowing where everyone wants to be in the picture with Roy ascet just around the corner um so you with regional as well yeah okay all right I saw an interview with Ed bethl he said he’s got kind of got three big targets through the year and it would be this and the Spring Cup at the end of the season but they’ve said obviously fast ground is important to him and it was a bit of a rarity last year the fact that we had good ground for the hoock spring cup so I think they’ll have been fairly tuned up for this yeah absolutely uh the Sandy Lane Stakes also takes place on the same day at hayok uh this is obviously for the three-year-olds and it’s the likely Port of Call for return of vanique uh Top Class sprinting tour last year 8 to 11 favorite at the moment inish sharan 5 to1 jaau 11-2 uh these are obviously all with bet 365 The Squire winner of the the greenham 7 to1 and then double figures 14s Pandora’s gift a bigger the remainder um how do you see this one this guy are so exciting like you know I I love sprinters that kind of can do it on soft ground and fast ground the way he can race he’s already rated 119 which puts him right up there in terms of nearly city of Troy in terms of two-year-old ability and like he just looks so straightforward Havana gry a proper proper stallion of sprinters um really excited to see this horse this season okay quite interested in in aeran dropping backp trip after that guine run yeah how do you see yeah I was I was going to say the same um yeah he’s quite interesting dropped in trip but vany there’s just no question marks is there I mean one on good toir one on very soft in France whatever we’re call him that these days one at four different tracks on a ranges of ground like form of his runs are also working out solidly enough I know task force was a bit disappointing but yeah I mean yeah he could run kind of a few pounds below 119 on his re appearance and still be good enough to win this and he he’s going to be one of the headline act for Royal Ascot so I do hope he wins this a pure ball of speed is what his writer describes I love that I love the fact that they didn’t even entertain going for the 2000 guine like he is a sprinter yeah yeah and that’s the beauty of having the Commonwealth cup is that you don’t have to go down that route to give yourself a chance of winning a group one earlier on you’ve got the Commonwealth cup if you think you’ve got a horse like that I’m ain’t going to look I really look forward to that race Roy laska this season it’s just going to be an if presuming vany does the job here we we’re we we’re set fair yeah um unquestionable dropping back in triple interesting addition to that as well U okay so that’s a brief look at the Sandy ly I do like in airin I think dropping back in trip just watch him in the guiney he travels off a very fast pace with ease under Tom EES for the majority of the race and then just at the end you actually see him change his legs and just run out of steam so dropping back in trip to six fongs at your at he do might be quite interesting the Mad thing about that is though they’re run him over a mile as a 2-year-old I mean he’s run over yeah so you’re like what are they thinking he’d be you know taking on Van and beating him over six as threeyear old maybe maybe not um yeah but he’s not going to beat the best milers he’s not he’s not going to beat the best milers um this is the last chance he’s this is the last this is the last chance and um he’s uh do you know do you know who his dam was yes Azan princess who stayed a mile and a half yes but it’s the same family as rosalion there we go so he and rosalion are Grand wow cousins that’s that’s nice so they all go back to room three and obviously rosalion speed and rosalion by blue points and Blue Points by shamad who is The Sire of there ining there we go the stuff writes itself yeah I don’t just sit at home watching sport I’m so boring I have I do love going to the flat meetings now and just seeing the sers whose dads I remember like what I couldn’t believe was that Frankle that CRA Frankl has already had a had a horse whose son has won an arc in Craftsman’s son has won an arc Frankl for me was like a couple of years ago it happens quickly yeah yeah love I love the way that you’ve you obviously done TV before you’ve brought Franco into the equation so lovely because on Thursday there’s an excellent card uh potentially on show at Sandown and frankl’s brother koui is set to line up for the Heron Stakes that’s one of the races I’m looking forward to there’s also the Henry II the Bricker Gerard named after one of the greatest horses That Ever Walked on Earth um there’s the national Stakes as well so there’s some good racing there if any of you have a view either of you have a view on any of those races no but I’m yeah I’m looking forward to seeing this uh Koli Yeah by um Kingman yeah that’s going to be interesting I um what is the expectation for this horse going forward well he I thought he was pretty good when he won at at New Market I actually missed all of this there we go he he looked in a bit of trouble but actually watched the race again right at the end he’s going and he’s green coming down the dip he’s he’s wanting to go forward but his head is slightly skew if and then when he hits the rising ground the last 50 yards or so it’s the Penny’s dropped and he’s going away from them exciting that’s a good race though there lots of untapped potential in that yeah I was actually a bit disappointed with the with the Declarations to be honest I thought tro man would probably head um head to the group two is missing that I thought Oki chobi might running the Brier Gerard and he missing that the one horse that has been declared that I was really looking forward to see him was Hawaiian runs in the National Stakes was a really impressive winner for Richard Hannah on on debut um that was at newb sent off 11 to8 in what looked a strong strong looking novice race at the time so he he he’s yeah he’s going to be nice in that race um there was a few later on that I was quite interested in uh I was blown away by C just in time um at the gu’s meeting on that Friday was a really impressive winner connections decided to miss the musidora stakes and aim a little bit lower to go a bit softly softly with her the form of that victory was boosted soft approach what the form of victory was boosted by the second precious jeel one at New Market by four and three quarter length um yeah beating well back stable mate that day um she has all the right entries later on in the season the ribblesdale the Irish Oaks and the arc she’s definitely going to be a group one fidly later on in the season six to four bet 365 a standout price Tom marand is also Dred up on chorus in the race though so just hold your bets for the meantime um but yeah see just in time would take my eye in the um what is the race called well um height of fashion Stakes at Goodwood Goodwood yes the height of fashion Stakes I’m trying to remember what they used to call it back in the old days it was the so when the predominant was the Colts trial and the Lupe the Lupe that’s what it was um when there was actually a trial for the Oaks and the Derby those two races Troy won it um right I liked Hawaiian in the National Stakes as well um I thought that was a really good performance because he was actually quite Keen first time up yet he found a bit at the end to see off what I think is a good horse from the Clive Cox table and although not loads of winners have come out from the race horses have come out and run well yeah in behind so I think it worked out quite nicely Keys corer um she she def she in the Henry II uh she’s hopefully going to continue the Improvement that she showed stepping up to two miles and in the brig of Gerard the two horses who’ve been declared in that race who like cutting the ground who are also they were also entered um at Goodwood late the Royal Ryme and certain lad keeping an eye on those two obviously if the rain comes Royal Ryme probably has more potential for what he could do but certain lad was set if the ground’s right certain lad was set a def a decent standard for him um those were the two horses but I didn’t know whether they might split one go that so anyway um but I do like Hawaiian and massively interested to see what kakuli is going to do now that he seems to have understood what uh else he needs to do other than just hang about eat food and exercise um I think that’s that’s it we’re saving our Our Best Bets though for later you got something juicy uh I’m not sure I do maybe I do yeah I uh oh so now you’re teasing us whether you even got something yeah I I I’m I’m I’m it’s kind of price dependent but yeah I have I have a couple I’ll give give a shout just Ju Just if J do one not price dependent I I’ll I’ll switch mine round the other horse I’m looking forward to in Ireland at the weekend his art power like has an unbelievable record at Ireland in his career C send him back to this race that he won last year I I thought he’d have strong claims to following up he could only finish eighth beating eight and three4 length in the Duke of York last season before winning this and then he was only beaten two and three uh two and a quarter length in that same race this year so it was a much better re appearance outran odds of 33 to1 and yeah he won this by nearly five length last year he was deadly so if he headed across for the for the Greenland Stakes I thought he’d take a while to beat it art power winner of the the champion Wednesday Sprint so uh another name to bear in mind okay that is a a look at the overall racing picture for the week ahead but our Best Bets are still to come but before we get into our Best Bets of the weekend just to let you know of a free to-play six horses challenge it’s available every weekend with price balls available for five and four correct predictions as well as a jackpot for all six T’s and C’s apply so here we go time for Steve Johnny and I to tell you of the horses that we be believe will be worth a tickle over the next few days okay Johnny as our guest you go first I’ll go with purple lily in the 1,000 ginies and that’s the 3:45 um on Sunday and any sort of EAS in the ground will be no issue at all and we’ll hopefully scare some others off um and I liked her prep run I spoke to Patty to me about this he didn’t mind her get being beaten um on the base of the trip um and she lost to a very good horse and traveled all over her and I I feel she’s going to be overpriced here particularly if Billy Lee doesn’t ride her which is possible as well okay purple lily in the 1,000 guins Irish 1,000 guine on Sunday at the ca Steve I’m going to go Fairly obvious I’m going to go for regional in the temple Stakes I just think he’s he still five to one though yeah I’ll back him each way in that just in case he he does need the run I thought he was fantastic value at that price progressed from handicaps last season one on his re appearance three from three at hayok will have no concern over the five Fong trip I I’d have slight doubts around living the dream um I think he’s going to have targets further on in the year than nonth and the Breeders Cup and yeah the fact that he’s three from three at hyok and we’re not due that much rain this week hayok I thought he’d yeah take a well to beat him okay and I’m going to York on Saturday and the five Fong handicap 245 the horse running in it is called rabar uh who’s never run over five F La before but this is his first time over five travels very strongly in his race he was quite well fancied at New Market on his comeback over six too Keen in the early part of the race yet he made a very good move four and a half furong out to hit the front and then just ran out of stamina ran out of speed because he’d been too Keen it’s the first time he runs over five furong on the nasire which I think is right up his street his pedigree is outstanding is by dubal out of rafu I cannot believe that he’s not better than he’s shown so far so uh off his handicap Mark first time down to five fongs rabar for Charlie Hills at York on Saturday so just a recap Johnny’s gone for purple lily in the 1,000 guine the Irish 10,000 guine on Sunday Steve’s going for regional in the temple Stakes hok on Saturday and I’ve gone for rabar in the 245 at York on Saturday one horse I did want to give actually was make haste if make haste goes to Queen Mary she’s trained by Diego Diaz I think he’s might be from Brazil with ex Rider and she’s by Blue Point is quite well fancy that n for to him out bolted up like absolutely boled up stack had had a winner around that time in naven who I was kind of impressed with she literally destroyed everything that came in front of her that day and she is just looking at at the odds here for the Queen Mary which she’s pretty much certain to run in she’s going to be around about give her take eight to one okay make haste yeah been a couple of nice first time out winners in Ireland nice spread of trainers as well three- olds haven’t really um he one one horse wi Pressley know never horse whose Name Escapes me first am out but he’s been slowing off get gone um there was a wooden Basset that one can’t remember the name he said he also said the galile the last galileia 2-year-olds aren’t aren’t much at this stage anyway so maybe he’s the changing of the of The Sire thing in kmore B do for me is fascinating because I I I think Aiden is struggling to struggling to replace gof quite simply yeah well it was a such a reliable source of Top Class horses for so many years um it’s a different story now um I think that’s just about it any racing trips for you this week after I might do ha do for the first time on Saturday it’s like the last big track to take off the list and I’ve either got the choice of the the the BET Fair Chase which it normally rains or I can yeah go in the sun on Saturday are you going to go up on Saturday to Hay do or are you going to go on Friday I don’t know yet why don’t go on Friday the journey if you’re going my car is the worst Journey on Earth it is absolutely horrendous if you drive to hoock I mean I’m actually feeling sick just right now looking at the camera Drive driving from anywhere south of Watford up to hoock on a Friday it’s you prefer to do it all M day either go early on Saturday morning or late on Friday night it’s one of the most depressing things to do you’re really making me look forward to my weekend though oh no no no the racing is great but the journey there jeez should I go to the derby on Saturday week this is definitely go to the derby haven’t been to T I’m going to down Patrick on Friday so that’s my next portol one of these quirky uh kind of Royal RAC tracks just great crack great crowds um and yeah it’s funny when you when I when I go racing I don’t know if you’re like this when the car doesn’t look great but when you go there and you do the study there’s always something you know yeah and meeting and when you’re there meeting people in chat it’s great it’s like well when we were at New Market on Friday we had a lot of fun just chatting to people um friendly Bunch most of them unless it’s purple with a white cap it’s a bit awkward but the rest of it is hilarious and fun uh I just jesting um right that is it for this episode of racing weekly brought to you by odd Checker and association with bet 365 thank you very much to Steve and to Johnny for joining me uh for this episode hope you’ve enjoyed it as always if you’ve liked what you’ve watched or heard then leave us a kind review on Apple podcast or in the comments section on YouTube thank you for the comments last week it’s um very good feedback uh of course we’ll be back next week to look ahead to one of the greatest sporting events in the world the derby Epsom and we’ll be doing it in the company of Andy holding but for now from Johnny Steve and myself and the racing weekly team bye-bye [Music]

  1. You have all obviously forgot that Ballydoyle got crucified by the racing media and other racing stables for running pacemakers in the big races

  2. Average punter but knew not to touch city of Troy ! Before guineas o brien last 27 runners had 3 winners ! His runners don’t win first time out ! He thinks he is Einstein ! He not ! Be grateful he didn’t have frankel ! Cecil knew he needed a run before the guineas
