Michael block is back at the PGA Championship I know those are words you’ve been waiting to hear since your top 15 finish last year which earned you this spot once again Michael so much has happened over the last year but we have to start with the experiences of the 2023 PGA Championship when you look back how much did that moment mean to you of knowing of what you had accomplished I still I still swear that I’m still living a dream I to this moment right now um it’s been the strangest year of my life it’s a year-long dream throughout the people I’ve met the places I’ve been um the experiences man and that’s all in video which is the crazy part right everything that happened was on camera and uh that’s one of the coolest Parts you know about the whole thing but uh yeah I wouldn’t change one part about it and I’m just so excited to be here I had a full year to know I’m in a major which is weird usually find out like two weeks before or something like that and to be able to know that I’m come here valala for a full year has been a lot of fun and hopefully I’m prepared enough and have a great time let’s talk about the year that was you of course made many appearances at PJ tour events you got invited to all sorts of golf tournaments all sorts of events is there something that sticks out to you is just uh one of those Pinch Me moments of what am I doing here yeah I’d say probably you know flying to Qatar at Doha Golf Club to um to a three-hour video shoot with maxter stappen the number one F1 racer in the world um was amazing I mean I literally flew for 16 hours to do a three-hour shoot and flew 16 hours back right away um that’s that was a very strange you know surreal moment for sure and then just people that I’ve talked to and then have texted me and that are been my autol my entire life uh it’s been amazing what have you learned about yourself over the last year um boy good question um I learned at oakill that my game can compete that it can hang but for it to do it how it happened I know that’s not going to happen again um it’s not going to happen those expectations I know I know it’s not going to happen right now this at Bala I just want to make the cut again I’ve got to kind of draw it back to what I was thinking last year oill have fun hopefully have a great pairing that’s fun um and I’m have a good time with John M cat and if I’m having a good time I’ll play well and that’s what it comes down to period with a lot of the attention that you’ve received the experiences that you’ve had you’ve also had to deal with a bit of scrutiny what has it been like working through that learning through that and and dealing with those moments yeah I mean I know I I think I made one one stupid comment out of the ion which you know I’ll go for those odds that percentage was pretty good for me cuz I’m I’m not the brightest guy in the world I mean I yeah one bad comment um that I think was a little out of context for me but um yeah so I learned from that though uh but yeah it’s been that was probably the weirdest part is just like you know any negative things I’ve never had anyone talk negative to me before in my life right and then you know you get some negative feedback here and there at the beginning it hurt and then after that I kind of realize it kind of happens anybody and everybody that’s in front of a camera a lot of time so I’ve learned how to deal with that part of it I don’t I don’t read through the comments anymore um I’m here just to have a good time anyone that’s met me and knows me they know anything I’m I’ve never been harmful in my life so whatever certainly lots of learning moments and I know that you provide a lot of learning moments for your kids what has been this been like for your family I know that uh one of your sons also is uh really interested in professional golf yeah Dylan um yeah he’s been having a great time he’s he’s stuck in between the social media long drive trying to be a tour pro thing he’s only 19 years old a little young and dumb but um he he’s trying once he gets it figured out and he goes towards One path he’ll do great but uh it’s fun having him around and and Ethan my youngest too he’s can’t make make it this year again because in the high school state championship so in California so I’m I’m bummed that Ethan’s not here but yeah I’ve got two buddies that I get to play golf with and we literally play golf all the time together and we don’t know who’s going to win which is a lot of fun let’s talk a little bit about Valhalla we’re dealing with a bit of rain delay situation which is why we’re in this beautiful overhang right now but you’ve been here for a few days you’ve gotten a chance to experience the golf course so far what are your impressions super Fair um as always PJ championships seem to be super Fair um a lot of long holes um there’s some really tough ones uh coming down the stretch 16 and 17 or can be dead into the wind which I’ll be hitting five with or 4 iron in at minimum I’ll kind of do it at oakill 17 and 18 I always played this kind of like Long Easy par fives you know the m part of it and that’s what I’ll do again on 16 and 17 um it’s amazing how golf is so mental um but this course Carri he PJ America set it up beautifully uh and the course is Awesome every player said great things about it so far not one negative comment about Bala you mentioned that you’ve had a year to know that you’re going to be in the field to think about being in the field so when you step up on that first T what is the most important thought for you to be committed to you know um it’s always my last two thoughts you know I always have a song in my head usually and um commit and Tempo is all I think about right I pick a Target I try to get you know get everything out of my head that’s around me like I did on one last year on Sunday with Rory that was insane and uh I’ve been there done that now so it’s kind of cool I have that in my back pocket I can go with it this year and I’m just trying to make the cut if I make the cut hopefully have a good weekend you never know but I’m just here to have a good time and I’m trying to keep the expectations kind of low you know know and just kind of build it up from there what’s the song it’s always usually kind of Tears for Fears in that world kind of 80s stuff for sure um but yeah it’s U I’m always in that Mantra but I’m always listening to music from the moment I wake up until I tea off well Michael block listen into some music on that first here at the PGA Championship enjoy
