the trade is one of the most prolific ways to change the entire makeup of an NHL Franchise whether that’s on the ice or in the culture a trade can completely alter a team’s trajectory sometimes it’s a surprise move that brings a much needed star player to a franchise that is desperate for one other times it’s selling high on a player and recouping a draft pick that turns into a future star today we dive into the best piece acquired by every team this is the best trade of all time for all 32 NHL teams today’s video is sponsored by surf shark VPN more on them later the Anaheim Ducks the Anaheim Mighty Ducks sent Chad kilger Ole tski and a third round draft pick to the Winnipeg Jets soon to be Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for teu salani the rights to mark schunard and a fourth round pick he couldn’t have known it at the time but former Ducks general manager Jack ferreria made one of the most franchise altering Acquisitions in NHL history salani went on to become one of if not the greatest player to ever wear a Ducks jersey the Finish flash Remains the team’s all-time leader in goals and helped the team capture the Stanley Cup in 2007 on the Phoenix side of things Chad kilder never materialized into a valuable player at the professional level Oleg tski developed into a solid defensive defenseman and ironically ended up back in Anaheim for his best years and their third round pick was a bust that never saw NHL ice in per Anton lungstrom while Shu andard didn’t see NHL action with Anheim until 2000 and the fourth rounder was eventually sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs the Ducks edition of salani was huge the Arizona Coyotes yes this team has relocated to Utah but their history hasn’t the Phoenix Coyotes acquired Jeremy ronic from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Alexis zamanov Craig Mills and a first round draft pick Jeremy ronic may have been a cap dump by the Blackhawks but the coyotes were not about to complain after seven seasons tearing up the NHL in Chicago ronic didn’t miss a beat he posted Seasons with no fewer than 24 goals for four straight years the yots also managed to give up very little for his Services Craig Mills never managed to make an impact in the NHL playing Just 27 games over three seasons in Chicago Alexis zamanov continued being a solid player for the Blackhawks and had four seasons of more than 60 points but he was no ronic most disappointing of all the first round pick became 16th overall Ty Jones who was a massive that only played eight games for the club the Boston Bruins the Boston Bruins acquired a 1979 first round pick from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for goenda La was in search of a new starting goenda fit the bill unfortunately Graham failed to impress the Kings and was unable to unseat Mario lard as their starter he would play in Los Angeles for two seasons before being traded to the nordes little did LA know the draft pick sent to Boston would become legendary defenseman Ray bour bour quickly established himself as one of the best defenseman in the league setting an NHL record for rookie defenseman scoring with 65 points on route to winning The Calder Trophy he would win five Norris trophies and serve as the longtime Bruin’s Captain Bor was a true two-way defenseman who excelled offensively while not sacrificing his defensive responsibilities he now holds Boston’s franchise records in games played assists and points the Buffalo Sabers the Buffalo Sabers acquired Dominic hasik from the Chicago Blackhawks for Stane Bogard and a fourth round draft pick this is one of the most lopsided Blockbuster deals in NHL history but at the time no one knew with Ed bfor locked in as the Blackhawks starting goalie they had no use for Dominic hasik who had just 25 games of NHL experience little did they know he would go on to be one of if not the single most dominant goenda spent nearly a decade single-handedly carrying the sabes to the playoffs winning two hearts and six vzna trophies as for the Blackhawks side of the trade Bogard was dealt again just 3 days later this fourth round pick turned into Eric da who had a solid career playing 600 games and coming just short of 400 points today’s video is sponsored by surf shark VPN whenever you connect to a public Wi-Fi network you’re putting your private data at risk of being stolen this sensitive information can the link is in the video description and pin comment back to the video the Calgary Flames the Calgary Flames received a young Jerome ainla and Cory Millan from the Dallas Stars in exchange for Joe newendyke well yes newendyke did help Dallas win the Stanley Cup in 1999 this is one the Stars probably at least consider not doing with the benefit of hindsight of course back then Nila was a 19-year-old Prospect with Big Time potential but Calgary ended up getting their greatest player in team history as ainla leads the franchise in games played goals and points he carried Calgary for years and even brought them to the 2004 Stanley Cup Final on top of winning an art Ross and two heart trophies Cory Millan finished off his career in Calgary and it was fine but ainla was spectacular Carolina Hurricanes the Hurricanes acquired rod brandamore in a deal that sent Keith Primo to Philadelphia that’s right the trade was one for one both players would play significant roles in postseason glory for their respective teams but only one lifted the stti cup and that was Rod the bod brinda Moore spent 9 and2 years with the hurricanes and was one of the League’s best defensive forwards during that time winning two Sky trophies and playing a big role on the team’s 2006 Stanley Cup win he is currently the head coach of the team and continued his legacy As A hurricane’s legend by Leading them on multiple deep playoff runs the Chicago Blackhawks the Blackhawks got one of the NHL’s best goalies of all time as well as another future Hall of Famer for what basically amounted to some spare parts after Detroit Red Wing’s general manager Jack Adams caught wind of Ted Lindsay’s attempt to unionize his team Detroit’s GM traded the All-Star and goldendoll to the Blackhawks the return was John Wilson Forbes Kennedy William Preston and Hank Bassin three years later and the Chicago Blackhawks would be hoisting the Stanley Cup on Detroit’s ice after beating them in the 1961 Cup Final even though Ted Lindsay’s best days were behind him he actually re tired before the cup win in’ 61 Glenn Hall spent 10 years with the Blackhawks was the starter when they lifted the cup and also won two vzna Trophies the Colorado Avalanche this goes back to the team’s days as the Quebec nordes but it helped them build the foundation for a two-time Stanley Cup winning team in Colorado with the newly drafted Eric Lindros unwilling to play for Quebec they sent him to the Philadelphia Flyers for an absolute Hall that included Steve duchan Peter forsberg Ron hexall Carrie Huffman Mike Richie Chris Simon two first round picks and $15 million in cash one of those picks was used to select goalie Joselyn tibo who was one of the key pieces sent to the Montreal Canadians in exchange for Patrick W after later acquiring Dave Andre Chuck and Ray bour from the Bruins the ABS were ready to win and they did just that capturing the Stanley Cup in 1996 during their first season in the Rocky Mountains essentially because of the Lindros trade tree when it again 5 years later can also be attributed to it the Columbus Blue Jackets in need of a goalie in the summer of 2012 the blue jacket sent a couple of draft picks to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Sergey babski a promising But ultimately unproven goalie it did not take long for him to make an impact in Columbus during his Blue Jackets tenure he won two vzna trophies and was consistently one of the League’s top goenda Stars yes the Joe new Andy for Jerome ainla trade is so good that it appears twice on this list as it is a rare instance in which everybody got exactly what they wanted and needed the Flames acquired a young superstar in ainla to build their team around for years the Stars got new andik who was a key piece of a team that went to back to back Stanley Cup finals winning one of them newendyke was even the KMI winner for that 1999 Stanley Cup winning team it might be one of the most productive and mutually beneficial trades in NHL history the Detroit Red Wings there are so many great Red Wings trades but there’s one that’s too funny not to mention in 1993 the Detroit Red Wings acquired Chris Draper from the Winnipeg Jets for a crisp $1 bill Draper was really good for the Red Wings for a really long time 17 seasons in fact he was a part of the Red Wings four Stanley Cup championships from 1997 to 2008 he didn’t score a lot of points but was a perfect bottom six forward that would kill penalties win faceoffs block shots and get into passing Lanes Edmonton Oilers during the 1993 season the Edmonton Oilers Dynasty that had won numerous Stanley Cups had gone away and the team was trading off the remaining pieces of its Championship runs including Essa tikin who went to the New York Rangers for Doug white tikin was still a solid player and helped the Rangers win a Stanley Cup in 1994 but white went on to become the Oilers best player for the next 7 years the Florida Panthers when Matthew kachuck told the Calgary Flames that he wouldn’t sign an extension with the club the Panthers pounced to secure the polarizing power forward in exchange for kachuck in a 2025 fourth round pick the Panthers set the Flames Jonathan hubero McKenzie weager Cole Schwin and a 2025 first round pick hubero was notably coming off of a 115p point season while weager had set career highs in his own right with Calgary locking both players up many thought they had actually fleece the Panthers but that’s not how things have turned out hubero has been one of the most disappointing players in the league the past two seasons his production sliced in half while now making $10.5 million until 2031 weager has been fine for Calgary but on the Florida side kachuck has been nothing short of electric had the Panthers been able to beat the golden knights in last season Stanley Cup Final he almost certainly would have won the K Smite as he recorded game-winning goal after game-winning goal especially in the conference final against the Hurricanes the Los Angeles Kings this one isn’t Up For Debate it’s easily the wing Gretzky trade with the Edmonton Oilers ownership in desperate need of cash they sold off the greatest player in NHL history the LA Kings paid $15 million Jimmy Carson Martin gelus and three first round draft picks in exchange for Gretzky as well as teammates Marty murle and Mike Cru shalinsky the Gretzky trade helped put Southern California hockey on the map and turn the Kings into an immediate Contender even though he wouldn’t Hoist the Stanley Cup with the team Gretzky went on to play 7 and a half years for the Kings leading them to the 1992 93 Cup Final Minnesota Wild Wild have often been a team to build through free agency whether that’s with periz and suder or even Nicholas Backstrom but we don’t think it’s too early to say that the Brock Faber trade was the franchise’s best with Minnesota unable to fit Kevin fala’s contract under the salary cap largely in part to the periz and sudor buyouts they sent the Winger to the Los Angeles Kings in a blockbuster trade for Brock Faber and the 19th overall selection in the 2022 draft nearly two years later this deal has been mutually beneficial for both teams on the Wild’s side of things Brock Faber has positioned himself as the likely runnerup in this year’s Calder Trophy race behind only Connor Bard well he has only played one full season in the NHL there is no doubt Faber is a Bonafide star poised to have a long career with his hometown team the wild the Montreal Canadians in the late 1960s and early 1970s Montreal Canadians general manager Sam Pollock was a Visionary he made a habit out of trading aging veterans to the NHL’s newest expansion teams for future first round picks sometimes years in advance which helped him build the greatest Canadians dynasty of the 1970s the best of those trades was the one that sent Montreal’s 1970 firstr pick and Ernie hickey to the Oakland seals for Oakland’s 1971 firstr draft pick it ended up being the number one pick in the draft which the Canadians used to select future Hall of Famer and five-time Stanley Cup champion G lefur today lefur also sits on top as the all-time points leader of the most storied franchise in NHL history the Nashville Predators in the middle of a disappointing 2012 13 season the Predators dealt veteran forward Martin rat to the Washington Capitals for Philip forsberg a talented Prospect who was just one year removed from being one of the top picks in the draft the capitals thought it might give them a shot at Championship instead the 31-year-old rat scored only two goals in 62 games over two seasons with the capitals while forsberg has blossomed into a Topline scorer and this year he broke the Predators friend franchise record for most goals in a single season with 44 the New Jersey Devils just one game into the 1989 season the New Jersey Devils traded defenseman Tom kver to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a firstr draft pick the Maple Leafs would quickly learn that there is always some risk to trading a future draft pick that far in advance as it ended up becoming the third overall pick in 1991 which the Devils used to select defenseman Scott Neer Neer me went on to become one of the best players of his era and one of the Cornerstone pieces of a devil’s Dynasty throughout the mid 1990s and early 2000s that won three Stanley Cups the New York Islanders Butch Goring had a long-term deal already signed with the Los Angeles Kings but in a shocking move the New York Islanders acquired him for Bill Harris and Dave Lewis this proved to be the missing piece for New York as Goring and the Islanders won the next four straight Stanley Cup championships including a con winning performance for Goring during the 1981 playoffs the Islanders Dynasty might not have ever happened without Butch Goring the New York Rangers after winning five Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers Mark Messier was dealt to the New York Rangers in 1991 for Bernie Nicholas Louie de Brusque and Steven Rice while he would only play six seasons for the Rangers he was the missing piece the team needed to end its 54-year Stanley Cup drought when the Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks in 1994 to win their first Stanley Cup Championship since the 1940 season the Ottawa Senators Alexi Yashin was the Senator’s first true star player but after a failed $1 million Hospital donation multiple disputes with upper management holdouts to get a better deal and being suspended for an entire season the New York Islanders Came Calling before the 20012 season the S sent Yashin to Long Island for a package of players and draft picks that that would reshape the future of the franchise in return for Yashin they received defenseman zido charara the number two overall pick in the draft who would be used to pick Jason spa and Bill mled Chara blossomed into one of the League’s best all-around Defenders while Spa became an elite Center for more than a decade in Canada’s capital the Philadelphia Flyers the Flyers traded Bernie pan to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the middle of the 19771 season and then 2 years later got him back it’s that second trade that makes the cut as the Flyer’s best all-time trade because the team reacquired the franchise goalie who back stopped them to back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 he is the best goalie in franchise history and the Flyers have been trying to find another ever since the Pittsburgh Penguins going into the 2003 NHL draft the Penguins knew exactly what they wanted a goenda flurry was at the top of the draft and the Florida Panthers who owned this pick already had an elite tendy in Roberto leango the Penguins sent the Panthers their first round pick a second round pick and male samelson for Florida’s first and third rounders after selecting flurry the next two drafts would see the Penguins lend Malin and Crosby flurry’s impact in Pittsburgh is undeniable as he never saw his safe percentage below 9005 helping the Penguins to win three Stanley Cups the San Jose Sharks in the middle of the’ 056 season Joe Thorton was being run out of Boston even though he was one of the best young players in the league and just entering the prime of his career the shark smelled blood in the water and pounced sending Brad Stewart Wayne primo and Marco Sturm to the Bruins for the Superstar Center thoron ended up winning the MVP award and scoring title that season turned Jonathan chichu into a 50 goal scorer and began what would be a decade and a half run as the face of the shark franchise it was a steal of a trade that gave the Sharks one of the best two-way centers of his era and one of the NHL’s all-time best Playmakers the Seattle Kraken the bar is pretty low for the NHL’s youngest franchise as they haven’t really made a blockbuster deal as of yet in the summer of 2022 the Seattle Kraken acquired forward Oliver bjorkstrand from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a third and a fourth round pick he put up 45 and 59 points in his first two seasons in Seattle and represented the team at this season’s All-Star Game even though he didn’t seem too excited about it the St Louis Blues in one of the most lopsided trades in NHL history the Calgary Flames sent Brett Hall at the time a promising 23-year-old young NHL to the St Louis Blues for Rick Wamsley and Rob raage hall went on to become one of the most dominant goal scorers of all time while Wamsley and raage had brief and entirely forgettable tenures with the Flames the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 1998 season the Tampa Bay Lightning sent Brian marchment and David Shaw to the San Jose Sharks for Andre nazarov and the right to swap first round picks in the 1998 draft if the Sharks won the draft lottery they did and the lightning took advantage of their opportunity to swap picks moving from second to first overall it was there that they selected Vincent La cavier and ended up with their first Superstar Vinnie La cavier had a fantastic career with the lightning and was the centerpiece of their 2004 Stanley Cup winning team the Toronto Maple Leafs the Toronto Maple Leafs sent one of their fan favorites in Wendell Clark along with a massive package to the Quebec nordiques to get back a massive package that included Matt sundine he became the face of the Maple Leafs in the 9s and early 2000s going on to play 13 years in Toronto scoring more than a point per game over 981 games this was such a good trade for the Maple Leafs just looking at getting their future Captain alone the Vancouver Canucks prior to the 1999 draft then Canucks general manager Brian Burke had to make a series of Trades to secure the number two and three overall picks in the draft sending away Brian McCabe and several draft picks to put the team in a position to select Henrik and Daniel sadine the sadine brothers went on to be Hall of Fame talents and the two best players in franchise history leading the team to two president trophies and a Stanley Cup Final appearance the Vegas golden kns at the 2019 trade deadline the Ottawa Senators were looking to make a lastminute deal to sell off Mark Stone simply put their penny pinching owner in Eugene Melnick didn’t want to pay the player who should have been their next Captain what he was worth in what at the time senator’s GM Pier Dorian called his proudest day as general manager he sent Mark Stone and Tobias Lindberg to Vegas for Eric branstrom Oscar Lindberg and a second round draft pick well the trade hasn’t worked much for Ottawa with branstrom not living up to the hype Stone has made an incredible impact with Vegas captaining them to the Stanley Cup the Washington Capitals trading first round picks is risky business but the Philadelphia Flyers were in desperate need of a shutdown defenseman and sent a 2008 first round pick to Washington for Steve eminger and a third rounder little did they know the capitals used that pick to select John Carlson during the capitals run to the 20 18 Stanley Cup Carlson scored 20 points his four Power Play Goals made that unit such a threat Beyond Alex oetkin the Winnipeg Jets another recent trade this one was addition by subtraction last summer Pierre Luke duah wanted out of Manitoba so the Jets sent him packing to Los Angeles with an 8-year $8 million deal in place the return was forwards Alex aalo Rasmus Kari and Gabriel vardi as well as Montreal’s second round pick pick in the 2024 draft this season valard alone was far better than plld he simply has not worked out in La leading to rumors about the team already trying to trade him away but what is your favorite trade made by your favorite team let me know in the comments thanks once 1. Whom-zlee and Ram-ijj, not Wham-slee and Rah-modge.
And that trade actually was key to the 89 Cup win.
Ramage was a key piece on defence, especially after Gary Suter was injured early in the playoffs.
And Wamsley gave them a solid backup in goal.
With the firepower the Flames had, Hull was not going to get as much playing time as he did in St. Louis, and they could easily have lost him for nothing later on in free agency. So while there is no denying his talent and career, he was spare parts on the Flames at that time.
In a sense the Flames trade Brett Hull for the Stanley Cup.
Hardly lopsided, especially considering the Blues never won the Cup with Hull.
Hull later won the Cup with Dallas and Detroit

  2. Tverdovsky was never a stay at home D-man; two 50 point seasons, and a top ten Norris finish in 97 with Phoenix says completely otherwise.

  3. Thachuk for Huberdeau is a big win for Florida. Hubs is a complete flop for us. That whole trade killed our club.
    Plus that douchebag Gaudreau leaving.

  4. The pronunciations on this video are egregious. There were half a dozen by the time you got to Detroit. This is so obvious and easily fixable, yet you don't.

  5. The Faber trade was amazing for the Wild
But I guarantee give it a couple years, and their absolute fleecing of the Buffalo Sabres has a chance to surpass it
At the 2022-23 deadline they delt struggling winger Jordan Greenway for a 2nd round pick, that 2nd round pick has since turned into leading WHL scorer Riley Heidt, a player who is a potential superstar in the making

  6. Favorite trade for Detroit for me would be sending Paul Coffey and Keith Primeau to Hartford for Brendan Shanahan and Brian Glynn.

  7. What do you mean, nobody knew about Selanne? He won the Calder trophy in 1992, smashing the rookie scoring record by 23 points, and had scored 147 goals in his first 230 games. Everyone knew he was a star, and the Jets only traded him because they couldn't afford him, Tkachuk, and Zhamnov.

  8. Boston showed that they are a class organization when the dealt #7/77 to Colorado so Ray could win a Stanley Cup knowing he would never win a cup in Boston.Pure class.

  9. in a complete shock to the entire city of Philadelphia and especially after their deep run in 2010. the flyers sent jeff carter to the blue jackets for jake voracheck and a first rounder where the flyers selected sean couturier. carter immediately demaned a trade out of Columbus and didnt want to even be on the ice for them. and the flyers got 2 cornerstone pieces in their core for years and coots becoming their eventual captain. the flyers also traded mike richards to the king for the rights to brayden schenn and wayne simmonds. just days apart. carter and richards were apparent party animals and were constantly late to practice, tried to sleep with other players wives, and had substance abuse issues. so something had to be done. richards did win the cup with the kings but succumbed to his demons and was never the same player. carter had a lengthy career and retired this season.

  10. DID YOU SERIOUSLY PRONOUNCE DOUG WEIGHT'S NAME AS WHITE? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ROFLMAO GO BACK TO SCHOOL KID 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  11. Wrong on the Caps one. The trade that brought Rod Langway to Washington is still the most important trade in team history. Back then, the Caps were bad and DC was in danger of losing the team. The Langway trade stabilized the franchise and they became competitive and it kept them in DC. No other trade comes close because there would be no Caps in DC today without that trade. The Oshie trade was another good one but the Langway trade is easily the pick here. Ask any Cap fan and they will tell you this.

  12. there has been some great and awful trades in montreal…but the Pacioretty for Tatar and Suzuki + a 2nd rounder was clutch.
Also the Subban for Weber was awesome and so was Bobby Smith.
But like I said…there were some bad moves like Roy, Chelios, Mcdonaugh, Sergachev. etc.. the Roy one was the worst. Set the habs back 20+ yrs to recoup from it.

  13. A funny detail about the Canadiens trade : in January 1971, the Seals were last in the standings, but only five points behind the second to last Kings. To ensure the Seals would finish last, the Canadiens gave away Ralph Backstrom to the Kings in return for Gord Labossiere, Ray Fortin and future considerations. In the Kings' final 33 games of the season, Backstrom scored 27 points, including 14 goals. The Kings finished the season with 63 points, 18 ahead of the Seals.

  14. The Gretzky trade was a win-win for both Edmonton and Los Angeles for another reason: Edmonton proved in 1990 they could win a Stanley Cup without Gretzky. It was also a win-win for the league itself, because without that trade, there is no NHL hockey in Anaheim, San Jose, Miami, Tampa, Raleigh, Dallas, Nashville or Las Vegas.

  15. I’d Argue Alek Stojanov for Markus Naslund would be the best trade in Canucks history. The Sedin trade was unbelievable, however gave up good players to accomplish it. Stojanov played 45 games for Pittsburgh ending his NHL career and started playing in the IHL & AHL following the trade while Naslund played 884 games with Van scoring 346 goals and 756 points.

  16. Feel bad for Sundin,if he wasnt traded he should have played in Colorado with Forsberg and have a cuopple of rings, sadly he had to play in lousy leafs

  17. The Canucks best trade is debatable. There is the Sedin trade yes but you could also argue the Luongo trade. The Canucks don’t get to the 2011 final without him. Naslund for Stojanov was also a very lopsided trade.

  18. Iginla for Nieuwendyk was pretty fair. I think the Flames getting Kiprusoff for a second rounder was a better deal.

  19. You are out of your mind with the Oilers trade. Doug Weight may have been a good player, but he isn't even in the top 10 Oilers of all time. How about the Jimmy Carson for Joe Murphy, Petr Klima and Adam Graves trade that allowed Edmonton to win a cup?

  20. C'mon, @top6hockey,… WHAT. THE HECK???!!!??? If it weren't for the Penguins to trade for Ron Francis and, to a lesser point, Ulf Samuelsson,… the Pens would NEVER have won their first two cups.

  21. A lesson in poor business management when you have to trade Gretzky then Messier after all the income that should’ve came in from those runs. No excuse

  22. Rangers best trade is Brassard for Zibanajad. Messier was great, but basically sold off by the Oilers. Zibanajad was a real trade that had big upside.

  23. Man I Really thought Calgary burned Florida in that trade. For the team that had no choice but to trade a player that wanted out I thought Florida gave away way too much. Heart breaking how bad Huberdeau has been for Calgary. Seems like every trade Florida makes works out great for them.

  24. Dude I’m a fan. But do more research. Forsberg did break the goal record when he scored 44, but he finished with 48

  25. I think the Thrashers/Jets best trade is acquiring Byfuglien for a late 1st and 2nd round pick (and other low level players)
